This was a graduation and anniversary celebration cruise. Our daughter graduated from school and we were celebrating our 35th. The Crown Princess is a clean and well run ship with a crew who is willing to serve people in their good and not so good moods. Our cabin was clean, the dining room and waitstaff were excellent....great service and they treated us as family. The activities onboard were fantastic....games, crafts, art, sales, and gambling (if you so choose). Excursions were good, you are never going to make everyone happy. If you are going to the island of Bonaire, take beach/water shoes with you. There really are no beaches per se in Bonaire, however, the snorkeling there was fantastic to see the fish and other animals in the reefs.Very rocky shores. The island of Curacao (pronounced cur-a-sow) was a fun place to visit and to get to see the Blue Curacao Distillery was fun....beaches are really good. The island of Aruba.....fantastic beaches, great shopping, I recommend the Aloe Company as a stop, very interesting. All in all, a fun trip, we would do it again. Read Less

This being our 23rd. cruise with Princess we were looking for a quick nothing special holiday to the ABC islands. It's much better now that you are at the islands for a full day rather than the 1/2day schedules in the past. We had perfect weather for the 8 day cruise. Overall you get what you pay for on the Crown. Now that Princess has gone back to 2 shows a night at close to an hour each instead of three 1/2 hour shows you don't feel that you just sat down and then had to scurry out. The shows themselves were entertaining.. Though listed as a Magician, Michael Misko was a great comedian and a hoot to listen to in the Liars club. We went on a two site snorkeling excursion in Aruba that ended up as 20 mins at each site and a lot of booze. We would sooner have had longing time as the sites, it's your call of course. The ship is showing it's age gracefully and will be going into dry dock in March for to be rejuvenated so stay tuned. Read Less

Prior to booking AND prior to going on board, we knew the ship is scheduled for refurb in the Spring 2018. We honestly don’t know why people are complaining about the condition of the ship when this is public knowledge. Sure, some areas of the need carpet updating and, sure, the cabin needs a new look, but none of these esthetics hindered our cruise whatsoever. This is our sixth cruise, first with Princess. Cabin: we had an obstructed oceanview on deck 8. If you are like us and are seldom in your cabin, book one of the cabins! We’ve had balcony rooms and really never use the balcony. There is a website that will give you the view from many of these cabins. Our view was barely obstructed and we could easily see (port side) the islands and the water. The carpet did need some updating, but the cabin was very clean. Huge closet and plenty of storage. People…everyone knows the mattresses are dated…request the mattress topper like we did! Slept well, no aches and pains. The shower stall is on small side. Food: we loved the staff in the dining room. We ate most suppers in the Botticelli dining room. Wonderful waiter, Pat, and fabulous Maître D, Dordé. We travelled with our friends, one of whom is gluten free. The staff, Dordé and the MAITRES D'HOTEL, Neville, catered to her dietary restriction with supreme service. Hats off to them! The food in the Horizon buffet was very good and they have a wide selection for the salad bar…followed by yummy desserts, of course. We ate many breakfasts in the DaVinci dining room, too. Don’t would pay for the specialty restaurants – the food in the dining room was very good and they had a wide selection each night including steak and seafood. Must admit that the steak was a little tough, but still edible. We did order room service twice (following the fun we had at the late night happy hour!) and did enjoy the International Café for a late snack too. Bar: we did not buy the alcohol drink package as we felt it was way overpriced. With our on-board credit and going to happy hour(s) each day, we could not substantiate the cost of this package. I did purchase the soda package which worked well. Each day there were two happy hours – one at 3 p.m. and one at 11 p.m. We went regularly! The bar staff is very good – say hi to Kevin at the Crooners bar! Entertainment: never a dull moment. If you’re bored on this ship, then you really should look at alternate methods of travel. The “Patter” is filled with fun-packed things to do. The staff and Cruise Director make it fun! Say hi to Gayve who works very hard to keep thing running smoothly. We loved the “Love Boat” night and disco night, too. And those seats in the Princess Theatre are super comfy! Ports: we visited three – Curacao, Aruba and Bonaire. Did our own excursions including island and factory tour in Curacao, booked the Trike tour in Aruba (super fun!) followed by taxi to the beach (OMG beautiful beaches!) and booked golf carts to tour around Bonaire (again, super fun!). The only disappointment was the fact that even though we had late departure from Curacao, there really wasn’t much open around the port. Most stores closed at 6 p.m. Aruba had more evening shopping opportunities. Overall, we were very pleased with this ship & everything it has to offer. Agreed, this ship have some areas that need to be refreshed, but we thoroughly enjoyed every other aspect…excellent service and we ate well – seven additional pounds to prove it! Read Less

We chose Princess because we did cruise with them before and loved the ships. This time, I found everything about Princess to be only adequate. I think the ship needs a bit of an overhaul and they need to upgrade their dining experiences. the pool areas were nice. I did like the big screen where we could watch movies but they played the same music everyday over and over again. I was not impressed with the recording or the songs. After the 3rd day you really didn't want to listen to that again. The Christmas decorations were beautiful and really made the ship look amazing. The dining room was nice but the food left something to be desired. It wasn't as good as I remembered from the other ships. I don't know if I would sail with them anytime soon. The disembarkation, was fine. It was pretty quick and the only place you had to wait was at the customs. Read Less

Boarding and disembarkation were smooth, just like they always are.The ship is clean and the only complaint is the WIFI not reaching our room and being verry slow. the double beds need top cover to get rid of split. the evening pre dinner activities for the Platinum and elites were very nice and so was the welcome aboard. the pools were clean and had plenty of lounge chairs and towels. he ship was well maintained and had little to none wobble even in rough seas. The buffet was always well stocked and the pizza is as good as New York pizza Read Less

First off, let me mention that this cruise was wholly chartered by Air Miles Canada and we didn’t pay a dime for it. On board were approximately 1000 collectors and their guests, as well as partner personnel and Air Miles employees who had won the cruise. Needless to say, our experience was likely different as we did not have an international crowd, nor did we actually pay for the Crown Princess’ services in any way, shape or form. THE GOOD - Food: We thought that the menu was diverse enough and well executed (they always got our cooks just right). They had theme nights going at the buffet, what with Italian, Mexican or “Oriental” food being served. The dining rooms followed those themes but often with a more refined twist. We honestly don’t understand why anyone would opt for the speciality restaurants, as steak, seafood and pasta was available on every dining room’s menu and in the buffet every single night. Contrary to what others have been posting, we never felt like butter in the dining room was being rationed in any way, there being three or four pats on the table even when we sat just by ourselves. - Service/overall staff: While we felt like some of the crew really didn’t want to be there (some of them were at the end of their contract, which is understandable), we were overall very satisfied with the staff and the services received throughout our cruise, and even those that seemed less enthused were kind enough to offer a “good morning.” Bar staff was fantastic even at happy hour, and dirty plates were promptly removed from your table as soon as you were done, even at busier hours. There were rarely any glasses or plates lying around unattended; if so, it wasn’t for very long until a bus-boy scooped everything up and out of sight. - Entertainment: Even on port days, there was always something to do on the ship. Air Miles and the cruise staff had prepared a boatload (no pun intended) of activities to keep us occupied and on our feet on sea days. The shows were all great, from the Broadway-style production “Encore,” to the hilarious stand-up comedian Phil Tag, all the way down to bar flair in the Piazza. Trivia was on every day, twice a day, and the questions were totally challenging; one YouTuber recently complained that the production was shoddy (awkwardly-made PowerPoints and paper answer sheets), but we didn’t feel like this affected our experience negatively in any way, shape, or form. THE BAD - Ship: While it didn’t negatively impact our cruise in any way, mainly because we’ve witnessed much, much worse in terms of travel arrangements, we felt like the Crown Princess was getting tired. There wasn’t much attention to detail going on aesthetically-speaking, in the sense that there were a lot of scratches, scuff marks and stained shower grout in the staterooms, and some water spots on the ceilings of some of the public areas. We felt like everything was pretty sound, but it lacked the shine and polish that a cruise line that markets itself as “premium” should be putting into its ship. Other than that, we loved the “Love Boat” feel that was going on in the decorations; that being said, we aren’t big fans of the modern aspect some cruise lines (ex. Celebrity) have been turning towards, and much prefer the more traditional feel. - Room service: We honestly only used this once on our stay, and it was to order the pre-paid bottle of spirits that we had ordered. It took a good hour to get someone on the line, and then another 30 minutes before someone came by our room to drop the bottles off. I’m not sure why they just don’t deliver the bottles to your room prior to the cruise, like they do the water bottles. - Prices: Almost 7$ USD for a bottle of Budweiser is just an absolute ripoff. The drinks packages are also very expensive, at almost 70$ USD a night, which means that you have to drink the equivalent of a 12-pack of ship-priced beer every night to make the whole thing worth it. - Disembarkation: Not much to say on this other than, there’s absolutely nothing like the feeling or being herded off a ship like cattle once the cruise is over. While everything went smoothly, they could have made an effort to make you feel a little less like they wanted you gone so that they can get the next paying customers onboard. PORTS - Cozumel: We didn’t do any excursions in Cozumel seeing as my wife is pregnant and we wanted to minimize the risk of zika, so we opted for a taxi to downtown to stock up on tequila and vanilla at Los Cinco Soles. The whole downtown strip is a huge garage sale, with shop employees just peddling out on the street and almost pushing you into their store. We weren’t turned off by the whole thing but we felt that it was pretty intense. Otherwise, 2$ beers aren’t anything to be sad about. - Princess Cays: Such a beautiful, relaxing place. We loved it here; nothing else to add! OVERALL All in all, we loved our experience and look forward to sailing with Princess again. Read Less

Staff was very friendly, rooms were clean and I found it easy to navigate around the ship. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. I like that there is an adult pool at the back of the ship and on the main deck there was always fun activities going on. Inside cabin is actually not that bad and our room was pretty quiet. There was a duvet under the bed that I used and the room had tons of closet space. The food wasn't my favorite but the presentation and service was excellent. I liked how there was a selection of bars to go to each with different things going on and I liked that it had a night club. I got the drink package and like that the limit was 15 per day, it is expensive but overall worth it if you drink more than 6 drinks per day. I would definitely cruise with Princess again, so far it is my favorite cruise line. Read Less

We took this cruise because of the itinerary. We have never been to Curacao and Bonaire and love Aruba. We did not do any tours but walked around. Enjoyed all the ports. The ship does need an overhaul. The carpets are worn and it looks its age. We had a balcony room and, although it was clean, it really looked used. Staff was very nice and efficient. Food was very good especially in the buffet. For example, leg of lamb, loin of pork, roasted pig, pasta with lobster sauce, shrimp done so many different and tasty ways. Traditional Thanksgiving meal in MDR wasn’t great. Since it was Thanksgiving week, more kids than we usually see on ships but all well behaved. We love the international cafe and always buy the coffee card. Entertainment was nothing special and I felt the MUTS movies geared toward kids. I was disappointed. We were on the ship around 11:30 am and disembarked at 8 am. All smooth. Read Less

We love to cruise with Princess. The crew, food and entertainment are always great. However, this Ship needs to be “refreshed”. Fortunately they have a refurbishment scheduled for Spring 2018. The cabins, furniture and decor are not current with other ships and cruise lines. We also feel that the menu should be revised. We have been on 3 different Princess Ships recently and the choices are frankly a little boring. Although the food is very tasty and plentiful there are no “new” ideas. From appetizers to entrees and desserts the menus have been relatively the same for quite a few years. Breakfast is breakfast but lunch and dinner in both the Buffet and Dining rooms are old hat. In contrast the Pizza and Burger bars are some of the best we’ve had on several cruise lines. The entertainment is incredible ! What great voices, dancing, music and overall productions. This Cruise Director, Paul, was also one of the best we have ever seen. Overall this was a typically well done Princess cruise but a Fresh look could help. Read Less

Great Price for a last minute trip. We have sailed on this ships three times now. Embarkation was so smooth, arrived at port about 11:30 a.m. on ship in about 20 minutes. Dropped bags off in cabin (R616) and headed out to explore. Our cabin steward was great, easy to locate and very friendly, Chai. We set sail on time and off we went to the Western Mexico ports. Smooth sailing with only two little sprinkles of rain. Costa Maya is a port with shopping and a few beaches down the road. We just checked it out and back on the ship. Next stop was Cozumel same here walked through the shops and back to the ship. We have been here many times. There were 5 ships in port this day. Back on ship to sail to Fort Lauderdale. Entertainment could have been better one comedian two different nights, one magician with one show in Explorers lounge could not even get it to see him. The show troupe was good. The food was not up to our normal princess experience. I felt the buffet, just so so. Dining room food the same. We have great servers in DR. We ate at Crown Grill and it was wonderful. Best experience we have had there in over 7 cruises. We purchased a coffee card, not pleased, tasted very weak for brewed coffees. Wanted to try to Salty Dog but it only open at 6 pm, same time as dining and a charge of 12.00 pp for two picks. Should be open for lunch. We had a good time, its what you make of it. Will sail Princess again, its always been our favorite. Read Less

We have been on 22 cruises on various lines, 9 on Princess; Princess being our obvious favorite and it always comes down to the entertainment. Princess is best for an active older crowd but not ready for Holland. The evenings are always packed with things to do to the point you get frustrated cause you can't fit it all in. But, it sure beats going back to the room after the show and watching tv. We can do that at home for free. The entertainment on this ship was the best even for Princess. They had a magician Michael Misko who was actually more of a comedian. And then there was the comedian Joe Yannetty. It was a toss up who was funnier but if you like to laugh - DO NOT miss their shows. The magician was also in the Liars Club - not to be missed either. Don't waste any time when a show is in the Explorer's Lounge as the seats fill up quickly. They also had the usual game shows, trivia & bingo. The first seating in the Princess Theatre fills up but we discovered there were always seat at the later show. The production shows were also excellent. After the "Blame it on the Boogie" show, the entertainers go up to the deck party and continue. I know alot of people skip the deck party - don't. They have changed it and they bring in the "Love Boat" theme to the party - very touching and fun. We were both even lucky in the casino. We don't hang out at the bars. We went on this ship when it was new and while it needs some refurbishments, it didn't affect us at all. It was clean and all the personnel were pleasant and friendly. Service was very good. The size of this ship is perfect. While my husband likes the pool, I prefer the games. The only thing I'll say about the pool is I noticed both pools only have ladders to get in and out. The only complaint would be the mattress. It obviously needed replacing and an eggcrate didn't help much. Our steward Russell tried. Our room was always clean and he was quick at filling requests. He introduced himself as soon as we came in. The embarkation and disembarkation were incredibly quick and easy. We're platinum and that might have helped with embarkation. Our room was ready. We didn't do any excursions as we had been to these ports before. Costa Maya has a very long pier and everyone walked. It could be a problem for some. Costa Maya and Cozumel both had too many ships and passengers in port. I won't say much about the food except it was good and service was excellent tho steak was tough. We ate at Sabatini's one night - save your money - the dining room was better. Ice cream is ice milk but they sell gelato. Read Less

This was my first time sailing on Princess Cruise lines, we boarded the Crown after a norovirius outbreak on the previous sailing. We received an email notifying us of the additional cleaning being conducted prior to embarkation, so our boarding was delayed about 2 hours. Once we arrived to the port, we were up on the sun deck within 20 minutes! So impressed! My first impressions were good, the atrium is very elegant, I thought the sun deck was well laid out. My last cruise was on the Norwegian Escape, and the sun/pool deck space was so limited, this is not the case on the Crown - we never fought for a lounger no matter what time of the day it was, the pools were never too crowded, we really enjoyed the movies under the stars too! We were in an interior cabin on the aloha deck - very quiet, perfect space for 2, I don't think I would want to fit more than that, but I loved the closet/bathroom lay out and thought the beds were pretty comfortable. I was apprehensive since I have only stayed in balcony cabins in the past, but I would stay in an interior cabin in a heartbeat if the price was right! We had anytime dining which worked perfect since it was only 2 of us and we have no issues sharing tables. We met some great fellow cruisers and had good servers. The food didn't blow me away by any means, I tried all the Curtis Stone meals and was fairly disappointed by all 3 of them. None of the dining room food was bad, but I expected it to be slightly higher quality than Norwegian and didn't find that to be the case. Entertainment - pretty disappointing for me. I thought the production shows were good, the comedian was great, but I really missed entertainment like dueling pianos, piano lounge singers and random guitar players that Norwegian has throughout the cruise. We sat through Karaoke which was entertaining and a few of the trivia games, but overall I thought they needed more smaller venue entertainment. Service - I didn't encounter any rude employees, I thought it was strange that I didn't see many waiters around the pool deck - literally I was never asked if I wanted to order a drink... I had to walk to the bar, not a big deal, but still thought that was a slight lack of service. Our room steward and the ones around our cabin were very friendly and did a great job! I went on my first and definitely last ship sponsored excursion - was supposed to be a historical tour of Puerto Plata and it was a waste of time, we were shuttled around to 3 shopping areas with about 30 minutes of educational viewing along the way. The tour guide was nice enough, but I really wanted to spend some time at the sites mentioned at the tour, not the preferred vendors shops.....not impressed. I did not bring my kids on this cruise and am thankful for that - I think they would have been bored out of their minds, the kids club looked very nice, but there were maybe 25 other kids onboard....just not the right time of year for kids on Princess I think, which didn't surprise me. I read plenty of negative reviews for the Crown prior to sailing which made me a little nervous, but I really didn't notice any negatives that would "ruin" my vacation. Is some of the carpet worn - yes, could she use a little paint here and there - yes....but that is why dry dock is just around the corner. I think some people just like to complain, but I just feel lucky to be on a cruise ship, so its all good for me! I would sail on the Crown again for sure - as long it was just me and my husband or maybe a group of friends. Read Less

The food was OK but choices were small. As a Elite Member (33 Cruises) we had to ask for what currant Elite events were being held. They said the room stuart had all that information, he did not. We had to go up to the Skywalkers to see if they had the regular 5 to 7 event. They did, we used to get a sheet as to what was up there each night. This was a good cruise on an elegant ship. The ship was segmented with plenty of smaller areas for the guests so even though there were several thousand guests on the ship, we never felt crowded. The drink prices were a suprise, only between 7 and 10 dollars per drink which we found very reasonable for a cruise ship. Our dining experience was enjoyable even though the food was a little bland. The outdoor theatre was the best we have seen. The screen and sound were very good and they had movies and concerts several times a day.The ports were average at best. The beaches at Princess Cays were very rocky. Our ship sponsored excursion at Amber Cove was simply a cash grab by the operator. We visited the fort and the historic block. Overall had a very enjoyable cruise but after cruising on The Regal this ship just was not without faults. I embarked knowing that The Crown would not be The Regal, but besides the amazing On-Demand TV system and the entertainment not having enough to do for 2 Millennials the cruise did actually have some faults, but the good outweighed the bad by a long shot. The Good -Food in the Dining Room was still delicious. Had some amazing Prime Rib on the first night -Ports were very enjoyable (Amber Cove & Princess Cays) -Service from Room Steward was great. My fiancé is a home body and likes to decompress while cruising. Our steward would find the time in the evening between the other cruisers to always turn down our room -Service in MDR was outstanding. My food was always great, but I knew I had GOOD servers on the 2nd night when I sat down at my table and was presented immediately with a Coke -The little touches are still there and they go a long ways; nothing is more refreshing than having water and wet towels waiting for you when you return from port -THE BIG ONE IS THEY GAVE US AN ANNIVERSARY UPGRADE: Apparently this is a new thing, but they gave us a voucher to be used at a Specialty Dining (we used at Crown Grill), and a $50 Spa Voucher (Went unused), and had the best meal I've ever had on a cruise. George (the manager) and Aleksandra (our server) were hands down the best I've ever had on a cruise ship. They went ABOVE and BEYOND; and the meal was simply delicious. There's enough reviews about how great Crown Grill is, but Aleksandra and George deserve recognition. The Not As Good; But Not Terrible; And Far From Ruining my Cruise but still Annoying -Guest Services on this ship is a joke. I had to deal with them 3 times and all 3 times they were unhelpful. -The first incident our soda cup broke. I'm talking inside lining shattered and a fleck came off in our Pina Colada. Not cool, but fixable. We roll up to Guest Services and the agent accuses us of breaking it...we're 2 adults here, I just want it replaced I'm not asking for compensation. Which she sends us on our way to a different location to have it replaced. Not cool. -So that comped meal at Crown Grill, they accidentally charged it to us. Whoops, no big deal. Fixable. We go to Guest Services on the last day of our cruise. Same agent as the cup say it's been removed. Cool, we leave. Low and behold we get the statement the next day and it's been charged. Did you do your job? -So day of debarkation we have to go to Guest Services, and who is there, same rude agent. We show her we had vouchers, show her that the charge she claimed wouldn't be there is still there, and say we need it removed. She FINALLY does the job she should have done the prior night and found our vouchers and sent it off to Finance. It wasn't rectified until after the cruise when it could have just been fixed on the cruise. So once more annoying. Everything else was what you would expect from Princess. Good service, from good people. I will say if you go to Crown Grill on Crown Princess though, ask for Aleksandra. You will not be disappointed. This is a woman who cares about service. Read Less

We chose this view as it was a repositioning with an excellent itinerary and the ports of call were better than expected. We loved Quebec and arrived 2 days early so we were able to explore more, but we will be back here probably earlier in the year this time to get longer days and possibly better weather. We took most of the tour with the cruise line and we were not disappointed. The New York one to the Statue of Liberty and Stanton Island was very overpriced, but as we docked in Brooklyn and not to long a stay, it was the best choice. We took an independent tour in Bar Harbor, with Ollies Trolley it worked out to be excellent and good value for money. I would definitely recommend this company and go on the same tour again. The only disappointment was that we were unable to visit Saint John's New Brunswick due to Tropical storm Phillippe as the captain made the decision for the safety of all. The Captain of the ship The Crown Princess, Captain Justin Lawes was exceptional and possibly the best on the cruise line. The entertainment was very good and the production shows with the singers and dancers was excellent. The cruise director was really good and very entertaining and skilled. Very good accommodations and excellent food service and choices. Officers and crew were professional and personable. Program Director fun and outgoing. Crown Princess orchestra, dancers and singers first rate. Many other show headliners were second class and disappointing. Wish they had better program content and presenters for the three at sea days. Good tour variety but significant variation in quality of the four guides and destinations. Really enjoyed The Wake Show with Paul and Chrissy every morning. Most tours ended with delays because an individual or a couple neglected to return to the bus or prearranged meeting location by the assigned time. There needs to be very clear direction and consequences explained for delaying a whole tour group because of inconsiderate people. Wish the at sea days had some professionals making presentations for personal enrichment. Early seating dinners are often served so slowly that you can’t get to the theatre in time to get a seat for the 7:00pm Show. Read Less

We are a semi-retired couple from Toronto, Canada. This was our 25th cruise, only 3rd on Princess. We chose this based on itinerary, price, and our available time frame. We enjoyed a relaxing cruise, visiting new Canadian and U.S. ports (some for the first time), and the weather was warming up as we made our way southbound. We opted to travel by train from Toronto to Québec City on the embarkation day. We did not worry about missing the ship, since it stayed overnight in Québec. On the train ride we connected with 3 other couples joining the cruise. Upon arrival we bought wine at the nearby SAQ store and walked about 15 minutes to the terminal, where processing went smoothly. The terminal is modern, with free wi-fi, but the ramps to the gangway were too steep. Perhaps some equipment was not working properly and they had to resort to alternative methods. We met Alyson, our cabin steward, who was friendly, efficient, and took care of whatever we needed. He didn’t do towel animals, but left two chocolates on our pillow every night. The cabin E312 had obstructed Oceanview in midship. The lifeboat and overhang blocked 50% of the view, but it was not a big issue for us. The shower is tiny with an awkward curtain, the cabinetry is older and scratched up, but the bed and linens were wonderful and the blackout drapes let us sleep in. On occasion we were able to hear muffled conversation from the adjoining cabin or the hallway. The lighting was adequate (no night light in the bathroom) and storage ample and easily accessible. The ship offered an excellent app for our cell phones called “Princess @ Sea”. You connect with the ship’s wi-fi network for free and can access the daily activities, check account balance and transactions, send messages to other members of your party and more. All food and beverage services were very good. Service was attentive and anytime dining around 7:00 pm with table sharing worked well for us. We purchased one Coffee Card with onboard credits, and it lasted us for the entire cruise. The food was plentiful, ranging from average to very good. Breakfast at the Lido was more awkward, especially if you order an omelette. You place the order, get a slip with a number, then when you find a table to sit down you give one of the waiters your slip and he goes back to collect your omelette and bring it back to your table. There were many servers around at all times and tables were quickly cleaned up after use. Princess offered two “Happy Hour” events. 3:00-4:00pm at the Wheelhouse bar, and 10:00-11:00pm at the Skywalkers Lounge. You buy one drink and get a second one for $1.00, plus 15% gratuity. Prices were affordable, with most wines in the $7-$8 range, and most beers at $6. The nightly entertainment was also very good, as was the music throughout the ship. Production show “Encore” and the soul singer Teacake deserve special recognition. The crew was friendly, polite and did not push hard to spend more on drinks or bingo like on other cruise ships. On the negative side, we missed an indoor or covered adult pool area especially during the initial cold and rainy days. Also there were two unfortunate events which need to be addressed. Tropical storm Philip forced an overnight stay in Halifax and skip St. John, New Brunswick. And a Norovirus outbreak made it challenging for passengers and crew. Both issues were handled professionally and with transparency by the Captain and his officers. The daily activities would wind down every evening around 11pm, attesting to the guests demographic sector which was mostly retired people, many in the 70’s and 80’s. While the Cruise Director was just average, there were enough activities to keep us busy during sea days – movies, wine tasting, shopping, etc. but there was no excitement and exuberance. Disembarkation in Fort Lauderdale was well organized, and there were ample taxis and vans outside. We shared a metered taxi to the airport ($15 plus tip). In summary, a nice cruise and thankfully we managed to avert any Norovirus symptoms. Read Less

Chose this cruise because of the length and ports. Cabin was great (inside). Food was good in the Horizon Court with variety - [compared to the Caribbean Princess' Marketplace (which was horrible)]. The pastry chef did a fabulous job - the pastries not only looked fabulous but had flavor. Anthony, our assistant buffet steward - was an absolute gem. Our Captain Justin Lawes, was terrific as usual, as we had sailed with him before (unlike other captains that you never see or can't understand the announcements due to their broken English or not using the microphone properly), he goes around and talks to people, did an interview in the International Cafe, and keeps the guests informed. The Captain took care of everyone, as we had to miss a port (St. John's) due to a hurricane and stayed overnight in Halifax in order to stay out of the wind and rain. For a repositioning cruise, this was good in all aspects, as we have been on several and the atmosphere or how staff treat you or the food or all of them have played a part in previous repositioning cruises. The Crown Princess is a large ship that has lots positive reasons to sail on. The ship is in need of some restoration, but nothing that affected the quality of our cruise. The embarkation out of the port Brooklyn was very well organized and ran about as smoothly and quickly as possible. Our cabin was ready and our steward was by our room when we first arrived. He did a very good job during our 10 day trip. While the cabin was basic, it had all the necessary items. The food in the dining rooms and Horizon Court (buffet) were good, but nothing special. The desserts were just ok, except for the special chocolate additions, which were outstanding. We ate in the Crown Grill, which is one of the specialty restaurants. The service was very average and, unfortunately, the food was not as good as that. When you are paying almost $30 per person additional for a meal, you just expect more. The bar service was good at the bars we visited. The entertainment shows were average, while some of the special people or groups were very good. The magician and both comedians had very good shows that were very entertaining. The magician’s last show was especially creative and just fantastic. The music choices were across many different genres and they were all good. The two ladies that played classical string music were very good. The variety of games offered by the cruise was good. The cruise director (Paul) and his staff added high energy to all of the events that they oversaw. The workout area was large and had full cardio exercise equipment. The locker room was good size and had a nice steam and sauna room attached. There is nothing negative to say about the ship, crew or ports of call. However, the cruise director, his staff and our cabin steward were standouts for our trip. The ship is good, not great. The food is good, not great. This trip from NY to Quebec City during the fall season is a positive experience on the Crown Princess. Read Less

We chose this cruise primarily for the itinerary and the fact we are loyal Princess customers. The cruise did not disappoint, the itinerary took us into may interesting ports of call. From embarkation to the end everything went smoothly. The only glitches were not going ashore in Newport (no fault of Princess, the Coast Guard had closed the harbor due to a tall ship running aground) and only a single gangway in Quebec City (port authority responsibility). As an anticipated the demographics on this cruise were an older crowd therefore activities were geared more to the older crowd. "Knitters and natters" was not for us. The entertainment on the ship was good. On most cruises the featured Princess Theater entertainers usually do a second show or appear in Explorers lounge, unfortunately not on this cruise. There were two comedians we would have liked to have seen again. Very good production shows offered by the Princess singers and dancers. Cruise Director Paul was very funny, had a very quick wit. The dining room service was excellent. We went for late seating. For that seating the dining room was never full as I guess most people preferred the earlier seating or anytime dining. This resulted in the early show being packed and easy to find a seat for the late show. The quality of the food was very good and portions were always on the generous side. Our waiter Renata and her assistant Felix provided excellent service and really enhanced our dining experience with the quality of service and their friendliness. It was also nice to see a head waiter with a personality. Mauricio was very friendly and chatted to us frequently. This added a very nice touch so often they are quite reserved. Regarding friendliness, the entire ship's crew were that way. We opted for an ocean view cabin rather than balcony primarily due to the anticipated Fall weather and the cost was higher than normal for cruise of this length. The cabin E630 was supposed to have and obstructed view but such wasn't really the case, we had good sight lines. Only one flaw with our cabin was the service provided by our cabin attendant. Sometimes service was incomplete or lacking items. Thanks Crown Princess for a great trip. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to visit New York and then see the autumn colours of New England and Canada. This cruise did not disappoint! Our cruise itinerary began in New York and we arranged our hotel and transfers independently of Princess. The city is well worth a visit and the highlight for us was probably 'Top of the Rock' which we visited at sun set. Boarding Crown Princess at Brooklyn was definitely the smoothest, quickest and stress free embarkation I have experienced. The whole team onboard made us feel very welcome and, having taken our last 2 cruises with another line, it was good to be back with Princess. Sailing away in the dark from New York was magical, although there wasn't really the usual sail away party atmosphere. Dinner in the Freedom dining restaurants was a bit haphazard that evening, probably because there had been a fairly late muster drill, followed by the sail away, after which everyone seemed to descend on the restaurant. Of course they were inundated, which was understandable. The staff could have helped the situation though by giving people clearer explanations and updates on what was happening. They should also have banned the booking of tables on that evening as well because it seemed to add another level of confusion. Maybe then there would have been fewer moaners who didn't seem to be able to understand the difficulties facing the dining room and kitchen and who rather spoiled the mood on our first evening. We didn't have to wait to be seated on any other evening though. The next day we woke to the news that we wouldn't be able to visit Newport, RI because another craft had broken down where our tenders were due to dock. Amazingly, there were clearly many maritime experts on board who moaned that the captain could have sent our tenders to a different landing site. Again, a difficult situation worsened by others who bring in an element of stress. We enjoyed an unexpected sea day. These things happen! It wasn't Princess' fault. Day 3 was in Boston. A pretty city. We did a walking tour, which was a bit boring, if I'm honest. I think it was down to our guide who wasn't particularly good. Our next stop, day 4, in Bar Harbor made up for any disappointment from Newport. The town is really pretty, a lovely place to visit. We did a tour to Cadillac mountain and Acadia national park. We saw some autumn colours and the scenery was beautiful. Lobster rolls and blueberry pie just had to be eaten and were superb. Day 5 was in St John. We looked around the town but felt there wasn't much to see. Day 6 in Halifax was much better. We did the tour to Peggy's Cove which was beautiful. Good guide too. Day 7 was in Sydney which, again, didn't have much to offer. Although it was Saturday the town seemed to be closed. We enjoyed walking around the residential area, seeing Canadian houses and their hallowe'en decorations. Day 8 was Charlotte town, Prince Edward Island, where we did a culinary walking tour. It's well worth doing because it's great to sample local food and drink. We enjoyed the mussels in particular. Day 9 was a sea day which meant we could enjoy the ship. Crown Princess has an Art Deco styling, which is lovely. She's well maintained. The crew all seem really friendly and happy. I know they're told to smile and say hello but I didn't feel anyone was forcing themselves to be polite. Many engaged in conversation with us which we found interesting and, as we shared some of our experiences with them, I hope they did too. Day 10 was in Quebec which is a lovely city. It's very French and the people mainly speak French, with many unable to converse in English. We don't really speak more than a few words of French but managed fine. We did a tour to the maple syrup sugar shack and the water falls. The tour itself was good with an excellent guide, but it didn't leave until 4pm so the light faded and we ended the tour in the dark. Not ideal! It's probably fair to say the average age of our fellow passengers was somewhat older than us and we did feel entertainment and activities were geared towards their age group. There really weren't any activities we were interested in during the day, apart from wine tasting and a cooking 'competition '. I enjoyed the illusion and dance show on the final evening. Our final day we disembarked smoothly and went on an excursion to Montreal before transferring to the airport. We had a smashing holiday. Food was fabulous. There was some excellent company and Princess showed us why we should come back to them. I wouldn't hesitate to book another cruise with Princess and hope I get the chance to sail on Crown Princess again. Read Less

This cruise really stops at places most people think of when they think Canada/New England. The tours we did were really great (outside of Princess Cruises excursions). Highly recommend Ollie's Trolley in Bar Harbor and Auto Cars for the Quebec 5 hour, 5 stops excursion. The ship itself leaves a lot to be desired and it is going into dry dock in March 19 for renovations. Staff was wonderful. All in all a very great cruise. We chose an inside cabin. However, it is one of the few that have 179 square feet. The layout was terrific. There were doors on the closets, which we absolutely loved. Lots of cabinet and drawer space for our things. Our cabin attendant did everything we asked and was fantastic. We liked the location on the ship, although we were concerned at the beginning of the trip. The weather cooperated with the dates of our trip. This is the 2nd time we did this itinerary. Loved it, but would not do again because we have too many other places we want to see on our bucked list. Food choices were adequate. Have had better on Princess. Service in the dining room and bars was excellent. The fall colors were great. Princess is our favorite line and we have been on it 21 times and have two more trips planned on Princess. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. While we had never cruised Princess before we had heard good things. All of the crew was great and really wanted to please. The ship needs an update...it’s just tired. Our biggest complaint was the Horizon Buffett. It was very hard to get a meal. It was crowded and the food islands were very close together. We could never find a table without having to ask someone if we could share. The show room was way too small for the size ship. Our cabin was always clean but it needs updating. Flatscreen TV’s would be a start. The bar Vines was our favorite. Quite and the complimentary tapas were always good. We loved all of our shore excursions. They were well run and we had great tour guides. The food was fine, but nothing special. We did do the upgrade to eat in the Crown Grill. We were very disappointed with our meal. The food was not as good as the regular dining room. Read Less

we chose this cruise as we wanted to expirience the canadian ports. We loved all the ports we made it to. we had been to a couple before so we just did our own thing but it was still a blast. wish we had more time in some of the ports as we did some tours and felt a bit rushed through the area, but i guess that means we will just have to go back again! our waiter in the early mdr was awful and we said so in our survey. he seemed as if he didnt want to be there, spilled water on us several times and huffed if we asked for something, cheese on the pasta etc. we ran into a couple of staff like that, and we had seen some reviews where people were saying the staff were hit and miss and had attitudes. This may be because of management but i would say it has not changed. There were a couple oustanding workers whom we recognized and then the rest just seemed to be doing bare minuimum to do their job which is not the princess expeirience i am used to. i said all of this in my survey to princess as well. overall we didnt let the staff that sucked ruin our cruise, but was it as great as it could have been, no. but we still had a blast and loved our trip.
