I chose this cruise because of its itinerary. I generally enjoyed the ports, with the exception of Marseilles where I paid $64.95 for a hop-on-hop-off tour that I could have booked directly for about $22.00. When I attempted to go online and provide reviews of my excursions, I found that Princess does not allow guests this option. Why not allow past passengers to provide feedback for the use of future guests? At Carnival's site, I can read guest reviews of the excursions offered at each port. The food, accommodations, and fitness facilities were comparable to what I have experienced on both Royal Caribbean and Carnival. The entertainment was disappointing as there were no performers from off the ship. My biggest issue was with the staff. 1) The first time I visited the lido deck, I got a 'dirty look' when I passed on using the hand sanitizer. 2) When I was locked out of my room and approached another cabin steward, he directed me to try to find my cabin steward. When I returned and told him my cabin steward was not in the vicinity, he actually left the room he was in and went to confirm my findings. When he could not locate my cabin steward, he finally made a call to have my cabin number temporarily added to his key card. 3)I was informed I was not "allowed" to bring food into Club Fusions (I had brought my dessert from the Lido). 4) It was also in Club Fusion where one of the entertainment staff was egregiously rude to a passenger who called out the answer in a trivia contest. When another passenger called her on it, she responded that she "didn't care" and "he (the passenger who called out the answer) could leave if he was going to do that." 5) Finally, I found the staff generally less friendly and welcoming than in my previous cruise experiences (this was my 21st cruise). On previous cruises, every cabin steward I passed had a greeting. Not on the Crown Princess. All this said, there were some staff members who were friendly and welcoming. Many of the staff members in the Lido met the standard of hospitality I have come to expect on a cruise. Also, kudos to the staff at Guest Services who were always friendly and helpful. I don't know how Princess manages it, but there was never a line when I visited Guest Services. Overall, not what I expected given the price and the Princess reputation. Read Less

Cruised with Princess a few years ago and it was brilliant, so was looking forward to a trip round the Med seeing some new sights. Embarkation went ok, cabin ok, food, drinks, service and trips all ok. The only snags i consider worth mentioning are the standard of entertainment, i have been on other cruises and with other cruise lines so i have room for comparison, but the entertainment on this cruise was shockingly poor. There was only one evening of 'Broadway' style production, with dancers performing an awful 70's medley which was high school production at best complete with sexist undertones, unnecessary in this day and age. Other nights were a particularly bad comedienne who was about as funny as a burning orphanage, a singer who had a bit part for 10 minutes in the lion king, admittedly he had a good voice but they had him sing two nights running as there was no alternative act. There was plenty of karaoke nights in other bars if that's your thing, along with knobbly knees and Mr and Mrs. The house band were OK but once you had heard one set the others on subsequent nights seemed the same. It was very very lazy entertainment. It wasn't all bad, there was a Frank Sinatra tribute act who i personally think should have been one of the theatre acts, not resigned to a side bar. Another snag, photographs, i have never understood why they print off hundreds of photos of guests, taken by the on board photographers, and charge a fortune for them ($25 per pic). As most never get sold. What a waste. Why not charge less, say half the price, you would sell twice as many = less waste, save the planet. A general question, why is the casino on board cruise ships so big? The one on Crown Princess is massive and on a good day there would only be a hand full of punters in there, what a strange waste of real estate that could be used for a better purpose. In all, an OK cruise with poor entertainment. My wife and i have decided not to cruise with Princess next time, we will try another line we haven't used before. Read Less

The ship is old, the WiFi is terrible, especially for the price and the food was meh. The menu was repetitive. This was my very first cruise and I was quite underwhelmed. We didn’t even get the horn when we pulled out of Barcelona. The stops were absolutely amazing. Which is the point of the cruise I guess. Florenc felt very rushed, and it felt like we were led to shop in the ship affiliated store. Not that I minded, but I would have liked more time to explore. They need to specify the excursions are a bit strenuous for the elderly. Spell out the walking, rocky terrain, etc. some stops were too much for them. Not much to do for the kids, everything shut down at 11pm. Mid trip, the bathroom began to smell like a Porta potty Read Less

We chose this cruise due to the iternary which did not disappoint! Felt ship was nice clean and well appointed. Shore excursions were awesome. Food was just okay. Steakhouse was a joke and not worth the additional funds. Crew and staff were semi pleasant but not overly friendly nor helpful. Bartenders, wait staff, front desk and room stewards were delightful and seemed to care. My 21st cruise so i can tell a good one from a poor one! This cruise was okay nothing to brag about. The embarkation and disembarking was well organized and efficient. No complaints. The shore excursion organizers were the same, pleasant and efficient. The overall enertainment was lackluster. The comediene was funny and entertaining. There was a lounge act "too cool" which we enjoyed. The reet qas mediocre at best. I give this cruise a pass-average rating. Nothing horrific wrong but nothing terribly exciting either. C+ or B- We traveled as a couple with no other family or children. Read Less

We chose this cruise from recommendations from family and friends. Overall very disappointing. The customer service was poor and many staff members were in training. The restaurant food was average after being on other cruise ships that were serving high quality meals. We were celebrating my husbands 50th and our 20th wedding anniversary. My brother had arranged through princess for there to be a bottle of champagne waiting for us in our room when we boarded and our daughter had arranged a bottle of wine to go to our room on my husbands birthday. Neither of these requests were actioned instead we received the day after we boarded two gift vouchers to redeem in the restaurant!!!! The bars around the ship very often only had the one person serving and there was a lack of bar people warking around the decks taking orders. There was a consistent stench on a couple of the decks and the toilets were very often out of order. We also mentioned some of the lift buttons were not working which stayed like this for the 14 days we were onboard. Overall a very disappointing cruise that really wasn't value for money. Read Less

Embarkation and disembarcation were the best we have experienced - we arrived early in Rome and expected to wait an hour for our time slot - but walked right on - 15-20 minutes - tops. Food was not so good - either in the buffet or in the dining room (we tried both MichaelAngelo and DaVinci rooms. The Crown Grill was great - as those premium dining options normally are. Teh burger joint on 15th deck was really bad - we only went once, and we are a family with 3 grown kids - the burger joint is normally a staple for them. The inboard entertainment was not so great - generally pretty rehashed. Most of the hosts - karaoke, trivia - were pretty half-hearted - although the karaoke in Explorer's Lounge on Monday night was quite good - with the hosts helping keep things moving. Seemed like most programs had some type of technical difficulty at some point - and some of the hosts were a bit challenged for english - but not for enthusiasm. Shore excursions were very high priced - so we did not sign up for any. We arranged our own (tour of Corinth and Athens, beach day on Mykonos) or just went into port and found things to do (hop-on hop-off bus, waling tour...) spending just a fraction of what the excursions were charging. In all - the locales and ports were amazing and everything we hoped for - stunning sights. The ship was easy to get on and off, but the experience on the ship was average at best. Luckily, we had only one full day at sea and had ports all the other days. Read Less

This was our 3rd time on the Crown Princess and this time was very disappointing. The ship seems to be showing it's age. One entire bank of elevators was down for repairs the whole trip, the vibrations in the dining room was so bad, it threatened to shake things off the table and we had never experienced such slow service. In fact, our first stateroom A614 constantly vibrated. It was hard to sleep. Ordering a drink was frustrating. It sometimes took 15 minutes or more to be delivered, which would upset others at our table. The waitstaff was friendly, but a lot of their time was spent apologizing for things that had gone wrong. The food was good and bad. Some dishes were better than other times on the Crown but others were so bad they had to be sent back. But the one thing that almost ruined the trip for us was trying to take a shower. The water would come on warm and after a short while it would start to cool then it would stop altogether! And it was usually just after we covered in soap suds waiting to rinse-off. It would come back on 2 or 3 minutes later and it would be ice-cold and slowly warm up.We called repeatedly for someone to look at it, and it was sometimes an hour or more before someone showed up. They would turn the shower on, wait a minute or two, and say, "It seems to be okay now" and leave. But it kept happening until we complained so much they moved us to another cabin. We may cruise with Princess again, but it won't be on the Crown. This cruise certainly has affected the way we feel about 'Princess'. If you want more information, you can contact us. Read Less

There were a few hidden cost that disappointed us, we booked direct with Princess paid the deposit and when we paid the final installment we were informed that there was a credit card surcharge and in the fine print it did say that, we were informed that there was a gratuity surcharge of 15% but receiving the final bill it was 15% per person so our surcharge was 30%. Most staff deserved a gratuity payment especially our cabin attendant and the dining staff, but there were some staff members that did not. The photographer quoted us $25.00 for some portraits which in the end was $250.00 as the $25.00 applied for each photo. When we ended the voyage in Rome we picked up the bags in a big terminal and then had to find the shuttle bus, we ended up in the taxi row and after a few questions were guided to the shuttle bus line. Not much help here from Princess. A shuttle from the ship to the local rail station could be a good idea in the future. Prior to the cruise we received documents that indicated we would board at Terminal D in Barcelona and an email received the day before the cruise did not even mention our ship, when we arrived at the port our ship was not at terminal D. Information from Princess was below standard but the cruise itself was very good. We will try another cruise line for our next holiday. Read Less

We were extremely disappointed in the overall condition of the ship... They were grinding while passengers were up and about which spoils the Movies under the Stars... The ship's condition was not what you would expect... especially one just coming out of dry dock... the laundry rooms are few and far between (3 for entire ship) with 2 washers and 2 dryers per room... there were 2 irons ...one ironing board.. wall shows there had been one because the holes in the wall...the money box was broken so you had to go 2 floors below to buy tokens to use in the machines.. the detergent dispenser would take your token and not drop detergent...washer leaked water onto floor, no air conditioning in room..not a pleasant experience... example of cost $15.00 for 2 loads. Dining/Food: Loved the Slice and ice cream shop on Lido. Crown Grill was terrific but here again the cover charges for these specialty dining experiences is a little aggravating but we had a terrific waitress from the Ukraine named Katrina. We found the Horizon Court staff lacking.. Horizon Court had a fairly wide variety of buffet food... There was a congestion of passengers during regular meal times ... understaffed and attitude of staff was poor.. We asked for coffee and the young man pointed over to beverage area and were told to go and get it. Main formal dining rooms were not up to what we had on Royal Caribbean.. limited menu choices not the extra special dining experience you would expect. Disgruntled employees: When shopping in onboard shops you could overhear employees expressing their unhappiness with the cruise line supervisors. Excursions: The excursions were great had 1 or 2 that were weak but for the most they were great. The ports were great especially enjoyed Montenegro and Greece... Attended a couple of on ship activities. The card making was a young lady sitting next to a plastic containers of craft supplies and nothing else... No instruction just "have fun". The napkin folding class was a piece of paper with written instructions and a container of napkins... so it was try and figure it out with others at your table... One instructor for about 40 people. While it wasn't what we had hoped for for our 25th anniversary... overall... it was satisfactory Read Less

The Crown princess went into dry dock just before we boarded. Princess has now provided only Duvets. There are no blankets available, in fact the staff just smiled when we asked for one. The Duvets make too hot and one sheet is not warm enough. We went to the movies under the stars where Blankets were available for the taking on the Regal princess which by the way still had blankets but on the post dry docked Crown princess you had to sign them out and could not take them to your room for comfort. Apparently this no blanket policy will be rolled out fleet wide. So think twice about a cruise in nothern climates, those who love duvets will be thrilled. Two production show in an 11 day cruise The ports were amazing but the tour staff on board the ship were completely unorganized. We missed our first bus because of how long it took to get through the lineup. The excursion staff did give us a partial refund. Read Less

This is the second Mediterranean cruise we have done A previous cruise in 2015 on the Emerald Princess was much more organised than this cruise. Queuing up for shore excursions outside the Princess Theatre was a debacle and should have been managed better. The number of tenders used for some shore excursions were totally insufficient for the number of passengers booked on shore excursions. Never seen such chaos as when over 2,000 passengers were all trying to get back to the ship at Olympia resulting in the ship leaving late and causing further disruption to the next day's shore excursions. Totally mismanaged and unprofessional. We were short-changed on some tours which were cut short and not given full tours that were paid for. Felt some of the entertainment was boring - didn't need to listen to someone playing musical instruments - needed more exciting entertainment. The specialty restaurant covercharge of US$29 per person was outrageous. I believe it should not be any more than US$10. The menu's were disappointing. Some of the dining staff in Michelangelo Restaurant left a lot to be desired. Took ages for food to be delivered to tables, then it was cold. Menu for 21 days at sea was boring. Each restaurant should have its own menu. Tea & coffee and juice should be free no matter where you order it from. The drinks packages are outrageous - anyone in their right mind would not have paid it. Drinks are extremely expensive - passengers have to keep remembering that everything is in US dollars and therefore a lot more expensive than they realise. Hair salon too expensive - two male hairdressers had no idea on how to blow-dry with a round brush. Had to return to cabin & redo it. Read Less

Departure delayed by several hours with passengers waiting in lounges. Ship right out of dry dock but rugs not finished installing. New bedding and rugs plus new larger TV's were only apparent changes. Divers had to inspect underside of boat at first port as the thrusters were creating huge vibrations on ship, delaying departure by several hours. same thing happened at next port. Chairs in Skywalkers Lounge completely worn out and stained but not replaced. No more Happy Hour and drinks at Captain's Club more expensive. Menu offerings below average and not up to past experiences. Daily canapes for elite passengers used to be a plate full, now 4 tiny canapes for 2 persons ! Many people complaining about all kinds of problems like only a trickle of water in cabin, weak air conditioning, etc. Some of the laundry rooms were closed at sailing for maintenance, others had non-functioning or ripped out machines. Token dispensers not available on all floors or out of service. Several rest rooms had non functioning taps with "under maintenance" signs. Waiters did not remove lobster meat from shells like in the past even if asked Baked Alaska parade done at 8:45 p.m. on last day of cruise. Liked this cruise like all cruises but feel this ship was not upgraded properly at dry dock and had an overall feeling, like many other experienced cruisers, that this cruise was not at previous level of Princess excellence. But the staff, as usual is wonderful and makes up somewhat for the bad experiences. Read Less

Captain should move to a freighter as he is not comfortable in social situations or aware of importance of communication with crew never mind passengers. He was basically invisible, only saw him once at buffet when he avoided eye contact with guests as he trotted at full speed thru a restaurant. He did not communicate stopping at sea for several hours or communicate to crew who were clueless on ill pax transfer. In fact most crew hotel crewmembers were unaware of locations of key places on ship. This is a Safety issue. He has Peter Principled and should be relieved, as the clueless hotel manager. The front desk was unaware of basic knowledge and didn’t know the chain of command. Not so bad when everything is normal, but not so if there is an emergency. Movie Under the Stars was reflective of a lack of consistency. Sometimes had blankets... sometimes not; sometimes had popcorn (nice touch)...., sometimes not; sometimes had good sound...., sometimes not. Video of ship at drydock was amateurish. Instead of focusing on ship’s systems it focused on redoing the stores... wow ....boring !! Bright spot of cruise was the dining staff. Most notably Marco, Head Waiter at Boccelli who has a very professional knowledge of wine. He conducted three wine tasting events that were very well done. Also server Jerry who had me thinking l was on Silversea again!! Read Less

This cruise was across the Atlantic, relaxing, great food and entertainment and a top contender for mid-grade cruise ships. First the good. Yes, the food and service was excellent most of the time and they were very gracious. The Cruise Director Angela [she is by far the most glib, talented and personable cruise director we've ever had] and her staff, Fayve, Mark and Crissi were wonderfully talented. But the ship!! We thought we were on...wait, we were on a shake down cruise...to get out all the kinks and errors from before and during dry dock. The outside was rusty, the dry dock work was not completed [example: carpet layers in lobbies at 10 p.m. working]. The cabin we had was tacky at best! Trim falling off, shabby caulk around tub, tub filling with water during shower [with drain open], trickle of water from faucet [after two days of requesting a plumber, no-show, I took off the filter and found sand and other stuff and brown effluent/water came out. Ugh. Balcony was equally shabby. Rust, paint missing [except on the sliding door to the balcony: plenty of paint on it]. First night, first show, we were sitting in the lower stage area. My shoe hit something; there under the two seats ahead were at least three rocks on the carpet, as big as golf balls. Activities seemed to be crammed and overlapping in morning, so had to make decision, miss some activities. Captain was busy and absent at times, but his radio voice was slow and steady. We made it to Madeira, Portugal, on time. Even after our side trip to Bermuda! I would not relish traveling on Crown again. Read Less

We just returned from a 25 day transatlantic cruise. We chose this cruise because of the ports. The embarkation was the worst I've ever experienced in 40 some cruises. It was disorganised with us boarding 2 1/2 hrs late and exhausted. There were many problems all over the ship:The pool was not in service the first day and a half. Our toilet did not work for 13 hrs the 1st full day at sea, and was not working 3 subsequent times. We were only 1 of many who had this problem, and many toilets in the common areas were not in service. We heard complaints people had problems with the air conditioning in their rooms not cooling. Several of the laundry rooms were out of order as were the token dispensers in the few that were working. There were leaks in the buffet areas with buckets and pans underneath for the duration of the cruise. The elevators were frequently out of service for repair. There were balls of carpet fuzz for the first full week all over the floor from the new carpeting making my allergies flare. At our 1st port there was a diver making a underwater repair on a valve on the ship. Service by room steward and dining room waiters was excellent. The entertainment was your standard cruise fare and for the most part it was good. The ports were very good. If this had been our first Princess cruise I would be reluctant to cruise with them again. I have never been to the ABC islands before so this itinerary appealed to me. The Crown was heading to dry dock after my cruise and it's apparent that it is needed! Everything seemed dated. The Horizon Court food was lack luster and in need of revamping the selections. The burger I had at the Trident was bland, no taste, processed flat patty, and they didn't even melt the cheese on it, just threw it on at the end. The upset stuff really gets old very quickly onboard, pushing the jewelry and art constantly. I didn't find the shows too spectacular, they were alright. The bright spot was the comedian, he was funny. The MDR was great as always, fine wait stall. I prefer the seated dining. I drove to the port and parked there also. So there was no hotel review or much in the way of traveling. Embarkation was very quick and efficient and disembarkation was ahead of schedule which is rare, so that was very quick. I did a Princess tour on each island and with the exception of being left behind at one spot (Aruba), had no other problems. Seems they didn't do head counts!! But that is why I stick to the cruise tours, in case something goes wrong. I had a bacony on Baja, which I liked for the covered balcony and no one looking down on me! I traveled solo, so no children or significant other to report on! Now that I've seen these islands, I have no need to travel there again, none I would go back to. As I said, the cabin and the public areas need upgrades, which is now being done. I did make use of the spa and as usual everyone there was very accommodating. Princess is my cruiseline of choice so once refurbished, I will no doubt go on the Crown again. Read Less

We were on the Crown a little over a year ago for 28 days to the South Pacific and loved the ship. So we decided to go again on the Crown. Granted it was only a 5 day cruise. We assumed things would be different on the shorter cruise. We were on the Royal in December for 10 days and I think we got spoiled. We had anytime dining, but only ate in the dining room one night. The food was just ok. We ate mostly in the Horizon and found there were less choices than a year ago. But found the food very good. The Crown Grill was excellent as always. We liked it much better than the Crown Grill on the Royal. My husband did get a rather large fish bone in his appetizer. The cruise director, Cory, was fantastic. A little quirky, but he was great. The comedian, Steve Caouette, was one of the best. They seemed to fit everything into the 5 days that they do on the longer cruise. The service was not as I remembered, maybe because it was a short cruise. It just seemed to be lacking. We did attend the platinum/elite cocktail party and the service was fantastic. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Did visit the spa. Had sinus issues for about 3 or 4 weeks (nothing contagious). The spa suggested the thermal suites. Only seemed to help for awhile and then came back. Then they suggest acupuncture. It was amazing! The best money ever spent. It cleared up what 2 doctors, 3 antibiotics & steroid couldn't. Read Less

We chose this cruise based on traveling with friends who had Princess "status" and the itinerary of the cruise. This was our first Princess cruise, although we had cruised on other cruise lines. There were a few things we liked better on Princess (mattress comfort, size of balcony, height of balcony chairs). Then there were several things that we found off-putting to unacceptable. Our cabin was "dirty" and not well maintained. There was mold in the grout over the bathroom sink -- a long black line of it! The carpets were stained and should have been spot cleaned. The cabin was not vacuumed for several days (the dead bug stayed right next to the chair the whole time!). The light fixtures over our balcony door were FILLED with dead bugs! Our sheets had holes in them, as did the pillow cases. The deck chairs and deck surface were covered in splattered paint that flaked off on your clothes. The phone (which you had to use to make dinner reservations) had a cord that the insulation had worn off of, and crackled and produced static on the "call". We were NOT traveling second class, although this felt like it, and this was not at all our experience on the other cruise line, for which we paid a comparable price! The buffet food ranged from terrible, through unremarkable. It was mostly "heat and eat" frozen or packaged boxed things in quantity. Certainly not "world class" dining! The dining room food was somewhat better, but the "anytime" dining option turned out to be anything but. There were only certain times in certain dining rooms available for "anytime" dining....and you had to either make a reservation, using only the telephones in your stateroom, and you had to take a time they chose, or you had to wait (and wait and wait) for a table as a walk up. The "dress code" was a farce, as was not at all enforced, with people allowed in with shorts, even on "formal nights". In the dining rooms, there were several options. Dining room Meals ranged from average to excellent. However their default choices (should you not like what the features were) was a hamburger .....and there was only once an option for a steak on our 8 day cruise--much to my husbands dismay. We found the dining room to be a better choice for breakfast and lunch as well, as the buffet and food stations had such unappetizing food choices. Only exception was the soft serve ice cream--which was quite good. The "love boat" themed arrival and muster drill was "hokey" and annoying. Seemed like they did not really take the muster drill seriously with the goofy reworded song blaring through the whole thing. The entertainment was enjoyable, and we purchased a beverage package, which worked well except in the dining rooms. Anytime we ordered drinks there, we ended up with charges on our bill that we had to dispute. They were always hastily removed, but it was annoying. We found many areas of the ship to be pleasant, mostly the outdoor areas. The décor of the ship is heavy and dark and seems outdated. Think it was tied to an "old Europe" theme, but it had little appeal to us. The bars were crowed when entertainment was present, and more seating would have been a plus. There were individuals who provided excellent service. Then there were the few that we will remember for their rudeness, and lack of commitment to customer service. On two occasions, we actually had servers argue with us, the customers. One argued about what drinks could be obtained on the beverage package (our order was one of those covered, but the served insisted not) and the other was a buffet food runner who argued that they had brought a ham omelet--when there was no visible ham in the omelet. Obviously these employees need better training. So, we have decided that Princess is not our cruise line. We had a much nicer experience and environment on a competitor. Princess may be the love boat, but we did not feel the love, nor love many parts of their cruise. Read Less

No wheelchair accessible doors to sports deck, and Sanctuary is only accessible by lift which we are told is often out of service (when I was ready to go down from the Sanctuary the lift was not working so I had to wait 2 hours for repairs (and there is no washroom on that level - not good). 6th deck has different levels so one needs to find the ramp to get from dining room through the casino to the theatre. The 6th deck theatre has very limited wheelchair seating and the 7th level requires a steep ramp. Explorer lounge where much of the trivia games and other entertainment takes place also requires a steep ramp so I could not participate. The most disappointing was that only passengers who could walk could disembark in Bonaire. Because I use a manual wheelchair I was not allowed to disembark because they claimed that the safety officer said the ramp was too steep. The staff was rather rude about it and didn't care that we specifically choose docked ports so I could disembark. We have sailed other cruise lines which were more suited for wheelchair users. It was New Years cruise i Thought the food in dining room under par.. Service in dining room slow but I guess New Years cruise pretty crowded. The Horizon Buffet a very bad you enter in and a exit out at the other end to small people dropping food bumping into each other system very poor and not enough tables your carry food around and by time you sit everything is cold, try to get eggs over easy waste of time the fry in advance and put on heated platter and by the time you get it its hard boiled to get your food everybody going ever which way it was a Bomb shell. Just came off Royal Princess in October it was great food was wonderful I dont know why all princess cruises cant be the same on food. Crown Princess food gives Princess a bad name.. Ship was great people very friendly and many things to do they go out of their way to to cater to all adults and children with there Activiites. Read Less

Embarkation out of Fort Lauderdale is not impressive. It started with the location of the ship. It was at Terminal 4, which was inside Port Everglades security perimeter. The line of traffic and the unaccommodating security personnel made the taxi trip very expensive. The check in facilities were not well designed and required a lot of walking and standing in line. Princess has always been my favorite cruise line, but this cruise makes me think twice before automatically choosing Princess. The amenities are getting thinner all the time. There is almost no food available after 11 pm, so if you are a late owl and want to nosh after partying, not much luck. When available the food is ample and tasty, but needs to be more ubiquitous. The pop up restaurant idea in the Cafe Caribe is cute, but unsettling to customers looking for a buffet, it is just another money grab by the company. The staff appears to be stretched more thinly too, and it shows in the attitude. Many staff members are more prefunctory than fun and accommodating. On day I walked out on one of outside passenger decks and got yelled at by a deck worker. They were painting, but there were no cones or barriers or tape up indicating the area was closed, still, there was no need to yell at the passengers. The events seem to be cut short too. Many of the crafting classes are hurried and there is little teaching of the craft. In the mask making class for mardi gras the staff person was late arriving by about 10 minutes, many of the attendees had already gotten into the crafting materials and started without him. He was very short and mean spirited about it and insisted that all of the things be returned because he had to distribute them, it kind of went downhill from there. My wife attended the paper star making class which she really, so not all crafts were badly run. Many of the events are based on reality and competition TV shows and don't really come off well in the cruise venue. The production shows were a highlight of the cruise. The first night ENCORE, was the best production number I have seen on a cruise anywhere. The singers and dancers were superb and the staging was magnificent. It set a new expectation for quality that will be hard to beat. The rest of the production shows attempted to reach the same quality and while very good, did not quite accomplish the task. My time in the Princess Theater was completely enjoyable on this cruise. Princess continues to have reasonable prices at the bars and the staff are generally efficient. And on Princess the drinks are made fresh, which is not true on other lines. We sailed in an interior room this time and found it to be OK. I was surprised at the size. There was actually room on both sides of the bed to move around. I am aware as time goes on that the cabin stewards are stretched thinner and thinner. It is sometimes hard to find your steward because he is 10 or 15 cabins down. Gone are the days of the little towel animals, just not enough time with so many cabins to service. An evening bed turn down consists of throwing a couple of pieces of chocolate on the bed. Our steward was efficient and very friendly, but the day of the little niceties seem to be gone. Another casualty of the corporate bottom line. Princess is still an enjoyable cruise, but less so than in the past. I now comparison shop for the best price/quality. Read Less

Frist time on this line. We were excited to try it. Heard good things. Some were true others we learned the hard way. Overall the food was good, very generous portions; good traffic flow in the buffet area. Loved the layout of the cabin. The closet did not have a door so it was not always banging into the bathroom or entry door. The comedian did several nites of shows. It needed more variety. Three nites out of 5 had the song and dance crew. They way I tell it is this - same dance, same performers, different costumes. Very cheap to not provide a variety of shows. The comedian and the game shows were in a lounge that was too small to accommodate the crowd. Many standing for the game shows and the comdey shows while the theatre was used over and over for the song and dance crew. We asked for a dining table for 6-8 and got a table for 2. Tried to change it but there was not anything else available. We won't be using the assigned dining again on this or any other line. It is getting so that the speciality dining is changing the menu and the services in the main dining room and changing it for the worse.. We tried the specialty dining and found it to be a colossal rip off. Billed as surf and turf it was $29.00 each upcharge. Now we already paid for dinner thru our cruise fare so an additional $60 between us should have been a good mark up. For $29.00/pp we could have a 6 or 8 oz. filet Mignon OR a 5-6 oz. lobster tail but NOT both unless you paid an additional $10/pp. So not exactly a surf and turf at the price advertised. Took us over 2 and a half hours because there was only one server for the room we were in. The place they seated us was on the exterior wall of the room which was glass and only a half wall that opened onto a major corridor. It was like eating on a freeway. Nothing special about it. My steak was great as was the lobster tail; the potato was half done, hard in the center and not warm enough to melt the butter; the one side I was allowed was 3 stalks of asparagus. Took so long we missed a private party and the beginning of the comedian so we had to stand since we came late. Not special at all. Here is a kicker for you - a surf and turf that was $40 extra - lobster came on one plate and the steak on another. Hardly fit on the table. Served on the finest of china - a plate that had the stars and stripes around the edge of it. It looked like something from off a covered chuck wagon in the Black Hills. - just missing the beans!! Some 5 star china!! We want to be sure we tell everyone that if you make a stop at Grand Truk DO NOT SHOP in the stores except Margarittaville. Four stores had "broken credit card" machines and wanted only cash. They were too cheap to pay the swipe fees. I told them to keep the crap and bought at the next port. Lots of kids and families on this sailing. Either the children's program was poor, too short or non existent. Kids everywhere all the time. Especially the pools. The adult pool was one where you either had to be in the water up to your neck or sit out entirely. No shelf to sit on and if you sat on the edge you could not reach the water with your feet. Really a stupid design. The first as sea day one of the two community pools was closed with a net over it. The embarkment day it was empty. Poor plan! Towels were plentiful and available. Some lines make you check them out - not so with this line. Read Less

I went on this cruise with a group as a charity fundraiser. I was pleased to be on a Princess ship as my prior experiences with Princess were wonderful. We upgraded to a balcony room and the room was smaller than a normal size room. The food on this ship was only mediocre. The choices were limited for dinner and the "always available" choices tasted like yesterday's dinner. Our waiter was a nice young man with no personality. His assistant was personable, but seemed new. For example, we asked for extra butter with our rolls. We were a table of six and were served 3 small balls of butter. He said that was all he was allowed to give us at a time. I asked for extra ice cubes each meal. On prior cruises, if I asked for something once, it appeared every day at dinner. On this cruise I was brought four cubes if I asked. In the cabin, the drawers did not work and we had to yank them out to get in them. The desk was not wiped off for 3 days even though it was stained. On a good note, the entertainment was the best I had encountered on any of my cruises. I will travel with Princess again but only on transatlantic voyages on Regal or Royal Princess. Read Less

We enjoyed our cruise on the Crown in spite of it being a very dated ship. The staff and crew make sailing on the Crown a pleasure. They are all very friendly and helpful, from our steward, Jason, to our waiter, Viktoria, and everyone else. The shows in the main theater were, with a few exceptions, rather amateurish. The comedians rocked. The other night clubs put on good shows, however the shows in the Explorers Lounge were always turn away crowded. The food in the Main Dining Room was excellent, as was the service. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and their recommendation were spot on. I wish I could say the same for the buffet. The room and presentation are very dated. Food selection is limited and bland. The layout makes moving around difficult and splitting the room into two separate sides with no access to each other makes finding seats much more difficult than it needs to be. Our cabin was very comfortable and Jason, our room steward, kept it clean, well serviced and supplied with ice. Overall, we had a nice, but not great, cruise on the Crown. Read Less
