Totally a wonderful cruise!!!!!!!!! Some of our friends declined to go on this cruise because of some of the negative reviews. My husband got to the point of not wanting to hear the latest posts from people about the ship. We've been on several of the Princess ships, Azamara, Seabourn, NCL, Carnival, Celebrity, RCCL, Believe me, our experience on this cruise was over-the-top positive. In every way. We chose to have an obstructed view on Emerald Deck 8, yes, we read the reviews about that deck. It was fine. We were midship, loved the location, and with so much to do, we were not in our stateroom that much. The holiday decorations all over the ship were still up from Christmas, so it was a festive first impression. Embarkation in FLL a BREEZE. Best ever. Disembarkation FLL this morning a BREEZE. Again, best ever. The cruise -- 2 sea days to Curacao, Aruba, Bonaire, 2 sea days back. New Year's Eve dinner and party onboard superb. The lobster dinner (lobster 3 ways) was delicious! The house band was incredible! Balloon drop fun! Ok, everything from wonderful staff to delicious food was perfect. The ship itself -- I guess there are people that like to nit-pick, but it was lovely and grand. First time on it for us. We do have to say that ALL THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF GAMES WERE ON THE TV, MOVIES UNDER THE STARS, CASINO, STATEROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was HUGE for us! We watched the Alabama-Clemson game under the stars, blowing wind, misty, but the staff walked around close to midnight with popcorn, then later with cookies. AWESOME! We departed this morning, but the NFL games were also on. We LOVED the cruise, LOVED the ship, LOVED our anytime dining waiters, tables 204,202,201 and 207 in the Michaelangelo Dining room. Our stateroom person Teguh was great. Got to run unpack. We'll be back! By the way, I rated everything 5-star because it was for us! Read Less

Past Princess cruiser. Liked the destinations and the price. My only complaint was the night they did liars club. I felt the magician who was one of the celebrities was rude, profane and obnoxious. Nothing was said about the show being PG 15 until after a lot of offensive comments. I have cruised 25 times with Princess and this was the first time I have seen people getting up and leaving the show, myself included. The shipboard staff were great, the other entertainment very good and the food was excellent. The ship is definitely in need of some cosmetic work, lots of areas need repairs. Donna my room stewart was excellent, probably one of the best I have had on a cruise regardless of the cruise line. The galley presentation and tour was excellent. I would definitely cruise on Princess again in the future. The benefits for elite passengers are the best in the industry. Read Less

Why 5 stars you ask? From embarkation to disembarkation everything went well. There was about a twenty five minute delay in disembarkation but not Princess' fault. Customs issue which is typical in our experiences. Staff: unlike our Caribbean Princess cruise two years ago, Crown's staff were all smiles and each and every staff member we encountered made eye contact and has some sort of greeting. Cabin Steward: Donnabella was cheerful and kept the cabin sparkling clean. Requested ice daily to be put in fridge, never missed a day. Turndown always done well. Dining room waiter and assistant: Pepe and Rommel were awesome. Never an empty water glass, consistently making sure all was good. Pepe made sure bar requests were quick by having Rommel pressure the bar. Late seating: If you want to see the show let the wait staff know and they will have you ready to go with plenty of time. If you're kind to people from the start, it is amazing what great service you will get. J/S. Food (imo) was quite nice. The Curtis Stone dishes were super as was other entrées we had. Soups and breads done very well. Crown Grill: For the $29. fee pp we thought it was well worth it. Filet Mignom was perfect. Sides okay but dessert off the chain. Very nicely done. Easily a $100. bill at a fine steak house here in FL. Horizon Court: Used a couple of times for breakfast. Everything one could possibly want, yes, even real fried eggs! Entertainment: Meh...but we don't cruise for this. Read Less

This was a 30th birthday cruise for me, and it delivered!! I've been on 16 Princess Cruises and 8 different Princess Ships, but never around the Holidays. The ship was BEAUTIFULLY decorated for Christmas... I was just enamored! Embarkation and disembarkation was the fastest I've ever experienced in the Caribbean. The only time I've had faster was on the Coral Princess going southbound for the last time of the season in Whittier. Vines Wine bar and Crooners are my favorite features on Princess ships... unlimited sushi when you purchase a glass of wine at Vines was how we kicked off every evening, and delicious table-side martinis with a live Crooner is how I finished every evening on this past 5 night trip. MUST TRY the Quantum of Solice if you like grapefruit/gin flavors! The cabins were great... here's a tip: The Premium balconies on Caribe deck 10 are huge (just as big as the mini-suite and way cheaper) and they are part covered and part sun. In my opinion, it's the only floor you get privacy on your balcony on this class of ship. If you do forward, deck 10, they are even sold as regular price balconies even though they are just as big as the rest on deck 10 that are sold as "Premium" balconies. Ports are good. You get what you expect. The Cruise terminal is very commercial and there is a lovely pool We got there at 11:30 and still had a ton of chair options around the pool but by 12:30 it was packed. Margaritaville in Grand Turk was exactly what I needed to escape the winter cold! Dining is the feature that keeps me coming back to Princess... The Crown Grill is gonna knock your socks off. Get the Prawns as part of your appetizer --- DELISH! And my favorite entree is, surprisingly, the Sea Bass. I'm vegan when I'm not vacationing, but then I'm happy to face plant into some delicious seafood! Sabatini's is good as well. I just get a bunch of appetizers, as I'm not crazy about any of their entrees. The calamari in Sabatini's is worth the cover charge by itself! Do it... get 2... you won't be sorry! I do not travel with children. My hubby and I are kidless for now, and I love Princess for being able to get away from kids! The front sanctuary and sanctuary pool are, well... our sanctuary! I would do it again, and I am doing it again! We already booked our next get-away on the same ship in February! Read Less

This cruise on the Crown Princess, as with any other cruise that we have taken on any Princess Cruise ship, was completely outstanding. From the moment we booked the cruise until the moment we left the bus at the airport to return home, you are treated like royalty. All of the staff are so courteous, polite, respectful, caring, responsive, totally attentive, honest and truly happy and it really comes through in their service and their dedication to client satisfaction, and everything that they do made our cruise so outstanding. All of the staff truly love their jobs and they make you feel so welcome, comfortable and like being of the 'Princess' family. The ship is so well-maintained, so clean and you feel so safe. Our steward kept our cabin immaculate. The food in the buffet and around the pools was outstanding and I cannot say enough about the fine dining. The food was out of this world and our waiter and junior waiter treated us like we were royalty and treated us so special, making our fine dining one of the highlights of our day, every day. The shows in the Princess Theater were another daily highlight for us and they were all absolutely amazing. We did not do any excursions this time, other than going to the beach in Grand Turk, but there was so much to do on the ship that we just took advantage of all of the aboard activities for once and we truly enjoyed being able to do many of the things that we missed before because we were trying to cram in so many excursions. Thank you Princess Cruises, for providing the ultimate in vacations! Read Less

We arrived at Port Everglades around 11:30, and were on board with minimal delay. The check-in agent told me that they started boarding shortly after 10am, unusually early. We brought 5 bottles of wine and went to the table to pay our corkage. I signed a guest check for a $45 corkage fee, it showed up later on my statement as a dining charge from the Da Vinci Dining Room. Numerous threads on Cruise Critic mentioned that they would somehow mark the bottles with stamps or stickers to show that corkage has been paid, but the gentleman helping us didn't have anything when asked, so he placed some luggage tags around the necks. Better than nothing, I guess. Each time we brought one of our bottles to a venue, we had to explain that we'd already paid corkage. It might help to carry your receipt with you. This was our first time in a mini-suite. The mattresses were fine, and did not sag as other's have experienced. Mini-suites are supposed to have a "luxury mattress topper", that may help prevent any sagging. I did not pull back the bedding to see if this was a new Princess Luxury mattress, but they are already in all of the Club Class minis. All mattresses will be upgraded when the Crown goes into dry dock in late March 2018. Our steward met us with two glasses of champagne, we had a few special requests, and tipped him for fulfilling them. The one request he never took care of was acquiring the upgraded bathroom amenities we were supposed to have according to the Princess website. In the past, we've been quite happy with all of our stewards, but this guy was not up to par. He forgot our bath towels on several occasions, would mix our mail up with other cabins, didn't leave us those slips of paper reminding us to change our clocks, etc....we didn't say anything. Why take time away from our vacation to get some poor guy in hot water? Speaking of hot water, our bath/shower didn't have any at first. We only had 1 temperature, "warm". No matter how much I turned the knob, the temp never changed. It took 2 visits to guest services and a mention to our steward before a plumber showed up. Guest services kept asking me if I wanted the water hotter or colder and looked at me funny when I said, "both". Zero comprehension, but the plumber who showed up took care of it before dinner. The staff at Vines were all great. Carmen and her crew really know how to take care of folks. We'd bring one of our bottles there before dinner and they'd serve us some lovely complimentary tapas. We had anytime dining, and usually dined late. If they didn't have a table for two, they would always find us one in another dining room. The food was fine except for one entree, a meat trio that was over seasoned and tough. For breakfast most days, we also opted for the dining room. It's much more civil than the buffet. The Crown Grill was great as always. I brought down a bottle of wine a few hours before our reservation and it was decanted and served to us in a professional manner. My wife enjoyed her filet, and I loved my lamb chops, both served with a delicious reduction sauce. On another night we tried the Salty Dog Pub and everything was good, but not great. We also ate at the Crab Shack for the first time. The food was excellent, and we couldn't finish everything. We walked away feeling fuller than after any other meal. Cruise Director Corey Moir and his staff were extremely talented, engaging and funny. They work very hard to keep passengers happy while on board. This was our second cruise with Corey, and I hope not our last. You see him everywhere. I asked him if they paid him by the mile! We did not see any of the production shows, but I did participate in Voice of the Ocean, (and won). It's a real treat to sing with such a great band. All of the musicians are very talented and run from venue to venue throughout the day to keep us entertained. The officers we came in contact with were all friendly, especially Ana, the director of food & beverage. She was delightful! Read Less

We choose Princess because of their excellent service and great itineraries!! We have sailed with Princess 8 times and on several different ships. We found the Crown to be wonderful! Had the International Cafe which is a great place to get a bite to eat plus so many other places to choose to eat to fit your schedules and your food needs. We had an aft suite for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was large and had 2 comfortable recliners and a table for 4 with padded seats. We enjoyed eating breakfast there several times. St. Kitts was a fun port!! We did the Scenic Railroad trip and Catamaran Sail! Fun for all ages!! The Catamaran crew was entertaining and the food and drinks flowed!! Plus we got to see St. Kitts shoreline which was beautiful!! Then we were taken by bus to the railroad and it was 4 double decker cars which we sat upstairs in the open air car and again enjoyed the scenic views of St. Kitts. Food and drinks were also supplied!!! All in all a great excursion, I would highly recommend!! In Antigua, we did a small bus tour of the Island. Our guide was both entertaining and very, very knowledgeable!! We had been to Antigua before but found on this excursion that we learned a whole lot more about Antigua and it's heritage and people!! Again, I would highly recommend this tour. It was also not too long to get tiring. The port in Fort Lauderdale is easy to get into for embarkation and also disembarkation. We love to cruise out of it!! All in all a wonderful time!! Read Less

We stayed 2 nights before our cruise at the Ft Lauderdale/Hollywood Marriot hotel by the beach and had excellent service, staff and meals. We choose this cruise on the Crown as been on this ship 7 years ago and loved it. The best part on this trip was to have two relaxing days at sea then 4 amazing ports and bonus day at sea to relax afterwards. We traveled with our 16 year old daughter who loved the shows, shopping and swimming. St Kitts and Grand Turk had amazing snorkelling, like one big aquarium! The Crown is a terrific ship with under 3500 passengers, great layout and easy to navigate. It was showing some age around exterior of ship, including balcony areas but inside was well cared for. Dinning perfect, with enough selections. Would have been nice to have few more pizza choices though. Only one comment on minisuite cabin, the pullout sofa bed for third person not comfortable at all. They need to change this and come up with better sleeping accommodations for third or forth passengers for what we paid. I would recommend the regular balcony with pull down bunk if you want a better rest. We will definitely book again with Princess. Read Less

We chose this cruise because I have always wanted to see Aruba and Curacao. Everything about the cruise was a positive experience. The entertainment on this cruise was fabulous and the cast was very talented. The crew members were always smiling and did everything to make sure that we were well taken care of and enjoying our vacation. The ladies in the Piazza were so attentive and a pleasure to be around. The food in the MDR was delicious and the presentation was equally as nice. There was plenty to choose from and the service was very nice too. The Horizon Court had a wonderful variety of foods for those times when you didn't feel like dressing for the dining room. The fresh fruits was so appealing especially considering that it is December! All in all, it was a wonderful cruise in a beautiful ship, and the crew was a delight! We are looking forward to our next cruise which will once again, be on Princess. Read Less

I was a little skeptical about this ship after reading a so so review by some people on cruise critic. Princess is Princess, so I had to think it would still be good. The Crown Princess is a little older, but still a fantastic ship. The service provided by the very friendly crew was wonderful. The food in the main dining room was great. The surprise was the food in the buffet, which provided wide choices and the quality of dishes some of which that you would find in a five star restaurant. I am sure that it is not easy to cook for thousands of people for a buffet, The food and the pastries were amazing. There was always a good choice of entertainment day or night. I love the Princess experience, because they spoil you and let you have your vacation as busy and fun as you want at your own speed. We have been on many cruise ships and cruise lines over the years. The Crown Princess was so much fun that we have decide to take another cruise on the ship in a few months. Read Less

My AWESOME friend won this cruise through Air Miles and chose ME as her guest! It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for such a wonderful vacation, especially for two former single moms getting back on our feet and not being able to afford a cruise vacation. We were treated like royalty, the food was out-of-this-world and the room service (by Rey!) was incredible! The activities on board kept us so busy that we never even had time to swim in the ship pool(s) or soak in any of the hot-tubs. Our tours were phenomenal, although more time allotted at each port would have allowed for more relaxation time on the beach and/or souvenir shopping; an extra 2 hours per port would have been perfect. WHAT A FANTASTIC TRIP! We ported in Cozumel for the jeep/snorkel tour and ported in The Bahamas for the bus tour/snorkel experience. We got to try conch for the first time ever and it was delicious! We learned a lot about the Bahamian people, their culture and traditions, but especially enjoyed the little middle school children singing for us. The Princess Cays is gorgeous with the soft white sand and beautiful turquoise water. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Air Miles and the Crown Princess for ensuring that our cruise was even more AMAZING than I could ever imagine!!! We chose this cruise because it was (1) a Princess Cruise; (2) an 8-day cruise; (3) went to Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao - we have not been to these islands in a while; (4) we love the Crown Princess; (5) we love to cruise; and (6) we were able to take advantage of a special that included free gratuities. We are in our early 60s, and Princess continues to be our favorite cruise line - the food is outstanding and the staff is wonderful. This was our 19th cruise, and for the past several cruises we have had balcony staterooms. We will be retiring next year and on a fixed income, so we decided to try an inside stateroom. We were on the Plaza deck, just steps away from the Piazza and the International Cafe. I have to say that not once did we wish we had a balcony, which really surprised us. In fact, we have booked a Hawaiian cruise for 2019 and have an inside stateroom on the Piazza. The International Cafe is one of our favorite spot on the ship, so it's nice to be on the same floor (only steps away from cappuccino and cookies). We also like the small, adult pool on the back of the ship. Princess has chosen the remove those pools from some of their ships, but the Crown still has it. This was a lazy cruise for us, but we did go to a couple shows, which were fabulous as usual. My only complaint would be the lack of movies and channels on the TV in the room. Movies Under the Stars was fun. We went over Thanksgiving and the seas were as calm as a lake, as calm as we have ever experienced. Overall we love, love, love Princess. Read Less

Itinerary was the determining factor. Quebec was VERY nice but rain was a factor. Rest of cruise OK but a hurricane interrupted a port call. We spent an extra day in Halifax, NS which was finne. Other ports nice. A balanced trip with port and sea days. The Canadian ports were friendly and mostly walkable. The ISA ports were OK but we have visited most of them before. Newport RI was scenic with their huge estates. New York was OK, but we prefer venues less crowder. We visited the Statue of Liberty which i consider a tourist trap. You can just walk around the statue because there is a two year wait to visit inside. Ellis Island was more memorable. Entertainment was sub par and the quality has been declining for years. Food was exceptional. Great variety, well prepared and nicely presented. Wait staff was efficient and gracious. The ship operational crew was excellent. Handled weather situation very professionally. After 20 cruises I found the New England/Canada cruise to be so delightful I’m ready to go again. I’d rate in my top two. Great itinerary, cabin, dining options, entertainment, staff and excursions. The decor was beautiful with Italian emphasis. It exuded class. The ship indoor and out was meticulous. I highly recommend this ship and cruise to anyone considering a cruise to New England and Canada. Entertainment was a great blend of music with many different types. Evening programs were diverse and great comedians. Lots of fun games too. Was a terrific way to meet lots of people. Loved the fact that the ship’s staff was not shoving their cameras in your face constantly. We chose this cruise because it visited the fjords and other ports in Norway up to the North Cape. Embarkation was the smoothest and fastest we have ever experienced and same was true for disembarkation. The ship looked fine to us, yes it needs some updating but not a big deal. We were in one of the few mini-suites that had a roof, aft on Emerald deck (E721). The cabin was great! I worried about vibration, excessive movement, or noise from Club Fusion below --- none of my fears materialized. The Main Dining experience was excellent. Our Server and Assistant were friendly, jovial and quick to discern if we did not like our selection and to offer something different. This is the first cruise where we looked forward to the delicious meals each night. The buffet was OK but what made it special was the smiling friendly service. Immediately upon sitting down, we were asked if we wanted something to drink. Unlike other cruise lines that make you go to the drink station yourself. The Int'l cafe on Deck 5 was a favorite option if the buffet was crowded. Room Service was great for breakfast or lunch. Service throughout the ship was stellar and we were always greeted with a friendly smile and hello when we passed a crew member. This was a port intensive itinerary, only 4 sea days out of 14, so we did not take part in the daily entertainment. The evening entertainment could use improvement and more variety. The ports were absolutely great. We visited the main fjords, other small towns up the coast of Norway to the North Cape. It was beautiful and fun. We did the ports on our own or with local tour companies rather than Princess. In most cases the prices were much less than Princess charged. It pays to do research about the ports before this cruise. We downloaded maps and our own info. Princess does not really give you a lot of detail about the port since they seem to want you to do their tours. The town maps they provided were not useful or clear. We probably would not go again (once in a lifetime thing) but definitely would recommend this cruise to others. Read Less

Loved the itinery- going right up to North Cape was very special; especially as most days the weather was good. First time on Princess; would rank her just below Celebrity but on a par with Royal Carribean. Only disappointment was some of the entertainment with the exception of the "Encore" show on the last night which was amazing. The visiting soprano had a stunning voice and the four princess singers also sang their socks off! The Rat pack show was also great. Prima Strings were very talented. The cabin (interior on Alloha deck) was fine- with a large walk in wardrobe with plenty of space. Very clean. Horizon and Caribe buffets were very calm and had nice ranges of food. Anytime dining worked well for us and we didn't wait long as we were willing to share tables. Clientele on ship were older so the "night life" was quiet- felt sorry for the band who would sometimes play to very small audiences! We had no problems with trips but I believe there was an issue in Gerainger getting people off on tender. Guy in charge of entertainment was very witty and the Captain very personable!! Read Less

Just got back from a 14 day cruise from Southampton round the Med on Crown Princess. All we can say is we had a great time. We did hear a number of moans but it was difficult to understand why. - our only "complaints" were that LOVE BOAT wasnt played on the siren as we were leaving Ports and in the trivia comps some of the office answers were wrong. As usual though the Princess excursions are expensive, most places we called at it was very easy arranging our own, especially Rome , Florence and Gibraltar - the best port we called at. Food was great although a little limited on the veggie option. The ship did seem crowded though, we've been on several Princess cruises before and never been on one as packed as this, probably due to there being 950 + children on board. Come on parents start being responsible for the behaviour of YOUR children....... ( the swimming pools were shut twice due to "accidents"..... ) To be honest in places the ship does seem to be in need of a refit but apparantely this is happening in March. The shows were much better than previous ones, We always felt Princess fell short in the theatre dept but this was quite different and the last nights shows, "Last night of the Proms" in the piazza and "Royal variety performance" in the theatre really were good, and by far the best we have see We had a mini suite and it was VERY COMFY. in Weve been on P and O ( never again ) and Celebrity but in our view no one does it like Princess.. first ever sailing from Southampton for a group of 8, I was dreading the bay of Biscay as friends have had bad crossings there, it was fine going and like a mill pond on return trip. In fact the English channel was the bumpy ride going out to Barcelona. Food & service were up to Princess' high standards, cleanliness is second to none and the staff are very polite (even in the early hours ). Botticelli dining room was our assigned venue, waiter was called Rocky, from Goa; absolute gentleman; knew what drinks to have ready at the table, where we all sat and I relied on him to choose the evenings recommended meals (all meals were excellent). he was managing 3 or 4 tables around us and was rushing around like a blur until you said his name!! and then he would take an order and have it presented at the table in no time, in the 2 weeks he made no mistakes with our table. we only got back on saturday evening and are looking forward to another cruise next year, possibly the carribean (the wife says so). Princess has always delivered consistently good service and this Mediterranean Adventure was no exception. We've sailed on Crown before as well as Caribbean and Grand Princesses and the ship was familiar enough to feel comfortable but slightly different in some aspects from her sisters to make the experience just as refreshing. We are low demanding customers so found the service excellent by our standards. Food was 1st class in all areas, entertainment actually better than our last cruise in 2015 and although the itinerary was exactly the same, the choice of tours at the various ports of call meant there was always something different to do. There was the usual one or two complaining about sunbed hogging and to my astonishment one lady turned her nose up at the Horizon Court Buffet one night saying there was nothing there she liked. Out of interest I went round and counted over a dozen different hot meat or fish main dishes with enough vegetable/potato/rice variations to probably put together over a 100 different meal combinations; not to mention the salads, cold meats and fish and fruit options. At 11 years old the Crown is a seasoned ship, not brand spanking new and no doubt ships built in the last 3 or 4 years will be far more advanced in facilities and decor styling. But this for my personal needs is what I want; it is clean, stylish and real feels like a proper cruise ship should, more than a floating hotel. We've put down a future cruise deposit with Princess but it looks like our next trip will be on the Sapphire or Regal. We'll miss not sailing on the Grand Class - long may they reign. Read Less

Having sailed with princess on five previous cruises, there was no contest as to which cruise line we would choose again! We sailed from Southampton to the Western Med and thoroughly enjoyed the cruise. Result? We're booked again on the Crown Princess out of Rome/Civitaveccia (?) late July 2018 sailing in the Southern Med. Looking forward to seeing the 'upgrades' to the Crown! As far as the food was concerned, we generally enjoyed all but the 'Salty Dog.' But then again we aren't 'drinkers,' so maybe our experience of the 'Salty Dog' was biased. The entertainment in the Princess Theater was up to the standard we had come to expect. The only "bad" experience we had was a trip we had booked by train to Rome, and the tour operator 'botched' the whole thing, which resulted in us not actually going in to Rome. But Princess was very generous in reimbursing us for the full price of the excursion PLUS an additional amount for onboard credit. Read Less

Would recommend this cruise to anyone. It was quick and seamless embarkation, our luggage was waiting for us st our cabin which was spotless. Our cabin Stewart was Elle and he was always on hand to show us the way back to our cabin ( we were forever going the wrong way) always smiling and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. We opted for early dining and pea jay and Hosea from Botticelli dining room looked after us unbelievable well, they work tirelessly to make sure we have the best experience every night and always with a smile , we were treated like family.(100% promotion material). Great entertainment, great shows and fantastic comedians and always something to do . Highly recommend the excursions we went on all but 1 and had fantastic well trained and knowledgeable tour guides we learned so much. All in all a fantastic time away. Read Less

We chose this cruise as a gift for our 17-year-old granddaughter. She wanted to go to St. Petersburg. We chose this cruise rather than the one on the Regal Princess with a similar itinerary because it started and ended in Southampton, England. This gave us the chance to visit one of our favorite cities again. Overall we had a wonderful cruise. Our cabin stewards, especially the first one, were well prepared to do their jobs. Our meals whether in the dining room, horizon court, specialty restaurant, or grill were always tasty. We do think that the beef served in the main dining room is of lesser quality than it was a few years ago. If we could have changed anything about the cruise it would have been better mattresses on our beds and on-demand television. We had these items previously and did miss them this cruise. Where this cruise stands out is on the all-inclusive photo package which we purchased pre-cruise for $99. We more than got our money's worth from this purchase. We came home with all of our photos as well as a thumb drive with digital files of our photos. Read Less

Our first cruise 4 years ago was to the Baltic also on Crown Princess and we wanted to revisit some ports and see things previously missed. We have also had two trips on the Emerald so are familiar with the layout and like this size of ship. I've seen some reviews which suggest the ship needs a refit but we saw nothing to suggest this. Service, food and entertainment were all great as usual. Cruise Director Duke Christopher was very likeable and he and his team work really hard to keep people entertained. We opted for anytime dining as with previous trips and didn't wait long in queues as we prefer to share tables. The food was good but I think the choice was slightly less than previously. We always visit the Crown Grill which is awesome and worth the cover charge and we tried Sabbatinis for the first time but whilst food and service were fine the difference to the standard dining room didn't make me want to pay extra again. Our plan was to do our own thing in port where possible and with the exception of St Petersburg and Gdynia where we took excursions all the other ports are easily accessible. Bruges - We prebooked a shuttle online for approx £17 each . Very easy and convenient and all the sights are very walkable. Copenhagen - Love it! We walked to Tivoli and back which is probably too much for most but we broke up the walk with a canal boat trip which is a good way to see a lot in a short time. The little mermaid is 10 mins walk from the quay, just follow the crowds. Hop on hop off buses operate from the quay as another option. Stockholm - Took the shuttle provided by the ship for $15 which was convenient as we docked a couple miles out from the centre. We bought a hop on hop off boat ticket from in front the palace which runs every 10 mins or so and is very convenient. Went to the Vasa museum which was great and not too pricey Tallinn - Easy 15 mins walk to centre of old town. A truly pretty place and no need for excursion St Petersburg - So much to see and do. We did an evening at the Catherine Palace which was the highlight of the cruise and a canal trip on day two. We had previously been to the Peterhof and the ballet which is also recommended. Helsinki - We walked the coast path to the city centre which takes 45 mins and a boat tour around the islands. Weather wasn't great so didn't get it at its best. Gdynia/Gdansk - Took a time on your own tour to Gdansk and was pleasantly surprised by Gdansk. The tour had a short refreshment stop on the beach at Sopot which was also pleasant. Read Less

We actually spent 4 days in London prior to the cruise. I arranged for Silver Fleet Car Service to pick us up at Heathrow and take us to the flat we rented on the East End. Ian was our driver and we had fun and informative conversations during our 1 hour drive to the flat. We used the London Pass and the public transportation with the Oyster Card. Highly, highly recommend "Eating London - East End Food Tour!" Loved our time in London! The day before the cruise, we again used Ian, Silver Fleet Car Service, to pick us up at our flat, and drive us to our hotel in Southampton, which was about an hour and a half drive, where we stayed at The Blue Keys Hotel, Bar, & Restaurant. Highly recommend! Colin was super helpful and welcoming. The food was excellent, and the drinks in the lovely back yard ever so relaxing. We walked to the "downtown area" of Southampton - very easy walk - and enjoyed a wonderful iced coffee in the park. The next morning we enjoyed breakfast at the hotel and Colin made arrangements for our taxi to the port. Embarkation - the port was about 10 min via taxi from our hotel, where Princess land staff were waiting to take our luggage right as we unloaded! Everyone was super friendly and smiling. As per our paperwork from Princess, we were to check in at noon according to their progressive check in times, which seemed to work well as we had no line to wait in to check in! From check in to board was maybe 30 minutes, very easy! We were in cabin D208, Mini-Suite, which we booked as our 26 yr old daughter was traveling with us, so her bed was the pull-out couch, which she said was comfy. She also used the open shelves under the TV for her folded clothing - lots of room and worked out well. Our Steward was Jess, who was personable and welcoming. As always, we chose the Anytime Dining, which works well for us. We usually went to dinner around 7:30 or so and if we had to wait for a table for 3, then it was usually just for 5-10 minutes. In previous cruises we have shared the large tables; however, with our daughter along, we wanted to enjoy family time. What we didn't care for this time, was the Maitre D really pushed sharing a table each night, "sharing is caring" - we, and others, didn't appreciate the pushing to share. Sadly, we didn't feel the food in the dining room was up to what we've experienced previously with Princess - nothing to ooh and aah about this cruise, but maybe it's due to being a larger ship than we've been on in the past. *Buffet - we did eat some breakfasts at the buffet, and do like the "make to order" omelettes; however, the buffet area can get quite crowded as well as the table seating, so expect to share your table if seated in the indoor area - we usually ate at the tables outside as we enjoy that option. *Crab Shack - we've enjoyed the Crab Shack on the Coral and the Island in the past and on the Crown it was quite good as well. (Now Princess charges if you want more crab.) *International Cafe - we did get a seat in this area sometimes - it's very popular. We use coffee cards which saves us money in the long run! The sandwiches and most of the salads here were very good, but the desserts usually looked much better than they tasted, and I'm not complaining - saved me calories! LOL! *Vines - fun wine bar with free (!) Tapas and Sushi. Enjoyed this bar! *Entertainment - LOVED the two comediennes! Really very entertaining! The Crown dancers and singers put on a couple of good shows! The Cruise Director and his staff also put on a little song-dance the last night - very funny! Also, really enjoyed the Trivia this cruise having never tried before, so we will look for it in the future as well. *Destination Expert - we went to her talks about each port; however, her pictures and some of her "helps" are many years old - she needs to revisit the ports and give current information. *Room Service - very quick and the sandwiches excellent! We typically ordered morning coffee and such for sea days via the Princess Ap on our phones, (instead of putting the card out on the door), the night before - worked well! *Princess at Sea Ap - we used this all the time. When we weren't together we messaged - would be nice if the message would alert you when coming in, but we just got used to looking at the message part of the ap if we weren't together. *Internet - our daughter needed this for her online college classes - seemed to work well and faster than we've experience before. We bought the package prior to the cruise due to the extra free minutes offered. *Cleanliness - we felt the Crown was kept very clean; however, there was a sewer smell on deck 7 all the time, thankfully it was only in that small area. No idea why. *Photo Package - bought this for the first time prior to cruise - saved us a lot of money! AND we made sure to get some pictures when photographers were out and about, as well as formal nights. *Ultimate Ship Tour - awesome behind the scenes tour of the Bridge, Engine Control Room, Galley & Food Production areas, Laundry Area, Area where the Anchor is in the front; Photo Lab/Print Shop; Backstage Production Show Area; Medical Center. Sign up right away at Passenger Services as space is limited - highly recommend! *Movies Under the Stars - we LOVE that Princess has this! *Disembarkation - Southampton - this needs to be worked on due to the luggage being set up on one end of the building, but the people were brought in on the opposite end so they had to get through the lines of people who already had their luggage and were trying to maneuver it to get out of the building! PORTS - I booked non-Princess tours - cheaper, with less people on the tour were my goal. I researched and researched and we were thrilled with all of my "finds!" *Zeebrugge - Bruges - we took the Princess Bus for transportation only into Bruges, where we walked to the old town square, enjoyed a cup of coffee and then joined a free 2 hour walking tour, which was very well done! *Copenhagen - walked to the Little Mermaid statue to meet up with our Red Badge Walking Tour guide, Jeannie, who was fabulous! Highly recommend booking Red Badge Walking Tours/Jeannie - we had no issues and absolutely loved every minute! *Stockholm - I booked Stockholm Guide & Cruise Services, Marco Giertz, for a private tour of this wonderful city, and he was amazing!! Highly recommend Marco!! *Tallinn - easy walk into the square of Tallinn, enjoyed a cup of coffee, and joined a free 2.5 hour walking tour, which was also very well done by Heli, the guide, who has personal history in her family of when the Nazi's and Russian's occupied her town/country. She was amazing. *St. Petersburg - we used SPB Tours for each day as they handled the VISA required, and we wanted to tour with a small group - we had 13 in our group. The first morning took longer to get off the ship and through Russian Immigration than the second morning, which SPB had told us was happening via an email just prior to our cruise. Highly recommend SPB! We saw so much, which was awesome; however, the crowds in the Hermitage were beyond belief! I think I'd give up the Hermitage for more time elsewhere, and we were there on a weekend with only 2 smaller ships in port with our larger ship, so not even close to the "normal" crowds we were told. Lunch each day was wonderful and in a "local" restaurant. Great weather while we were there, too! Also, the first night in St. Petersburg, Princess does bring on a local troupe of musicians, dancers and singers for the entertainment show in the Princess Theatre! We loved it! *Helsinki - we used SPB Tours here, too, for a short 3.5 hour bus tour that stopped at the Rock Church, Senate Square, and the Market. The Rock Church was what we wanted to see, and with SPB got right in - no line to stand in; the Senate Square was also a nice stop and we climbed the stairs to see Helsinki Cathedral. The Market was also a fun place with locally made items and lots of food! Little shops were also lined up at the port so we actually shopped more before getting back on the ship! *Gdansk - we took the Princess Bus for transportation only into Gdansk, where we beat the crowds to the Long Market! Enjoyed that area for a few hours and then boarded the bus again for a quick photo stop at the Solidarity Monument, then back to the ship. There are also free walking tours here but instead of 2 hours they are 3 or so hours and we didn't want to tie up our limited time here. ATM's - KANTOR in Gdansk - were very visible and plentiful on Long Market - vendors required the local money, most didn't take cc's. The ship went under the suspension bridge - Great Belt East Bridge - during one of our last sea days - we enjoyed being up on an open deck during this time. *Southampton - after disembarkation, the local guide I hired was waiting for us as we exited the building with our luggage. I "found" Chris, owner of Southampton Stonehenge Tours, online while doing my research, and he's a "find" of the best caliber! He took us to Salisbury Cathedral, where one of the four remaining Magna Carta's is kept, then on to Marlborough-West Kennett, and then to Avebury Henge and Stone Circles, before taking us to our hotel by Heathrow. A wonderful day of thousands of years old history! Highly recommend Chris! We love cruising with Princess Cruise Lines and have another cruise booked for 2018! Read Less
