Last year we had to cancel three cruises due to medical issues. So this year we are hitting the ground running and what better way than a Princess Cruise. The price and timing were right. It was a cruise of relaxation and a chance to be catered too. The Crown Princess hit all the marks. The Entertainment and Activities were excellent. We enjoyed the both of the major productions (Magic and Encore). The singers and dancers were great. We had early dining and enjoyed all of our dinners. We were especially pleased that Princess offered us free cover charge for a meal at one of the specialty restaurants for our anniversary. We chose The Crown Grill and were not disappointed. Although we did not do any shore excursions this trip, we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon aboard the ship. We also took advantage of the future booking promotion and are looking forward to our next two Princess cruises we booked. With the impeccable service and friendly personnel we met, I am sure that we will enjoy the next two Princess cruises. Read Less

I was very disappointed by the current state of Princess. In the past, the food and entertainment were quite good. This time, the food was very poor and the entertainment on the ship was not up to par. The main theater was full a half hour before the early show and we were shut out four nights. It is too small for the size of the ship. The activities on the ship were not very good and we spent the days at the pool or reading. They were geared to shopping and the art auction. The ship constantly vibrated whenever we were in motion. It was difficult to fall asleep and it was downright annoying. In 28 previous cruises, I had never experienced this problem. I think the engines need to be looked at. Prior to sailing, I had ordered the 12 water bottle package for $6.99. When it did not show up, I was told they never got the order and had to pay $2.50 a bottle. As for the food, the meat was tough, it was never served as ordered, and the dining room selections were not as I am used to on other lines. Read Less

My husband and I had been looking forward to trying Princess for the 1st time. We had cruised on several other cruise lines and had heard that Princess was a class above Carnival or Norwegian. Unfortunately, we found that this particular ship was not the best food by any means. The buffet had the same selections every day, nothing was hot and there was always a long line. Sometimes had a hard time finding anything we liked. Seating was very limited and there were no other choices other than pizza, hamburger, hot dogs, cold sandwiches and maybe 1 carved meat. Tried the carved meat for lunch one day and you couldn't even cut it. The dinner wasn't any better, food was always cold and no good choices. Had prime rib one night and was cold to the touch, along with the sides. We had anytime dining and usually don't have any trouble getting a seat for 2 but, on this ship if you don't take a large table with a group you will find yourself waiting for 30-45 minutes to get a table. Entertainment was a big disappointment. The only music in the evenings was classical, ballroom dancing or instrumentals. The theatre was extremely small and if you didn't get there early there were no seats. You can't even get around people that are sitting down since they are so close together. Everywhere you went in the evening it was very hard to find seats, there is just not much entertainment and so everyone is going to the same place. We went to 5 theatre shows and only liked 1 of them very well. Not our normal productions that we are used to. They only had a comedy show one evening & he was very good but we are used to at least a couple of them. Didn't have karaoke very often either. The pools were nice, but chairs are limited. We did like our room and our room steward who was Antonio, he was the best. Our bed was very hard and we requested a mattress topper and a cover sheet because they do not give you a top sheet. This was a first for us, I don't like covering up with a comforter that is probably not washed frequently. Very quiet in the hallways, liked the type of people cruising on the ship. Ordered room service one evening and it was not good, sandwich had 1 shaved slice of roast beef and no taste. Tried the Crown Grill one evening and out of a rating of 10 I would give it a 5, but we were tired of the dining room. The steaks were just ok, nothing exceptional for $29 per person, potatoes were very small and not done well. Rolls were hard just like they were in the dining room. Must be leftovers that they use over and over. We were looking forward to trying the Salty Dog since the hamburger looked fabulous in a picture and they said it was the best on the seas. We saw someone eating one and it looked no bigger than a slider. There was never anyone there either. Service throughout the ship was very poor other than our room steward. Don't expect to have bar wait staff coming around much to bring drinks. Casino was not as lively as we have seen on others and didn't see anyone winning including us. The ship is very dated although it is going in for dry dock for 2 weeks. Don't know how much they will get done in that length of time. Embarkation and disembarkation was very smooth and quick. There are so many ships to choose from we don't believe I will come back to Princess unless they make changes. Read Less

This review covers the 5-day and 8-day back-to-back voyages of the Crown Princess (January 7-20). We were able to book these dates for a last-minute booking (38 days out). Princess offered us a price we couldn't refuse, so off we go. This was our 13th & 14th cruise respectively with Princess (20+ overall) so we know our way around the cruise world. Embarkation was as smooth as possible. We waited until the mass early morn crowd dissipates, and walked in about 1:30pm. Being platinum level, we were whisked through the preferred line and were onboard the ship within ten minutes. We chose an obstructed oceanview stateroom, since we would be outside 90% of the time aboard. Our room steward was excellent.....very personable, and took great care of us. The Crown Princess is a magnificent ship, slightly over 3000 passengers, well laid-out with lots of open space on top (4 pools), good traffic flow through most of the ship. Almost all activities occur on the 7th deck, which gives you access to all the lounges, theatre, and some shops. Gym and spa are at the front of the ship, which gives you 180-degree view forward behind glass walls. The buffet (Horizon Court) is at the back of the ship on deck 15, and has inside/outside tables available for great views. DINING: We stick with the late traditional dining venue (Botticelli room, deck 6 table for 2). Our wait staff was excellent, very friendly, knowledgeable of the food selections, and made our dining experience memorable. The food in this room was FANTASTIC.....in our opinion, one of the top 2 of our Princess experiences over the years. Portions were the perfect size, we ate everything that was on our plates. Desserts were well-presented. ENTERTAINMENT: Theater stage shows were great. You must watch ENCORE. Some serious talent there. The ship band was spot-on. Great costuming/lighting. Theater has good access/egress. Catch the party band STATIC.....high energy, very interactive with the passengers when they perform. Voice of the ocean was entertaining, as was marriage match game. PORTS: Visited Roatan, Cozemel, Aruba, Curacao, and Bonaire. Beach days in Roatan and Aruba. Cozemel was a visit to Tuluum, which requires a ferry ride over to the mainland (Playa Del Carmen). Curacao was a walk-around visit, and we rode electric bicycles on a 25-mile tour of the island of Bonaire. We used off-ship venders (shoreexcursiongroup.com) for the land tours. Traveled about 5000 statute miles on this adventure. Point-of-information....you can now bring Cuban cigars back to the U.S. for personal consumption. We used city bus in Aruba (drastically cheaper than Taxi). OVERALL: There were no speedbumps on this cruise with Princess. We were treated like royalty. Crown is scheduled for dry-dock in a month or so, so the experience should get even better after that. This ship/schedule met our needs. Read Less

It was New Years cruise i Thought the food in dining room under par.. Service in dining room slow but I guess New Years cruise pretty crowded. The Horizon Buffet a very bad you enter in and a exit out at the other end to small people dropping food bumping into each other system very poor and not enough tables your carry food around and by time you sit everything is cold, try to get eggs over easy waste of time the fry in advance and put on heated platter and by the time you get it its hard boiled to get your food everybody going ever which way it was a Bomb shell. Just came off Royal Princess in October it was great food was wonderful I dont know why all princess cruises cant be the same on food. Crown Princess food gives Princess a bad name.. Ship was great people very friendly and many things to do they go out of their way to to cater to all adults and children with there Activiites. Read Less

Embarkation out of Fort Lauderdale is not impressive. It started with the location of the ship. It was at Terminal 4, which was inside Port Everglades security perimeter. The line of traffic and the unaccommodating security personnel made the taxi trip very expensive. The check in facilities were not well designed and required a lot of walking and standing in line. Princess has always been my favorite cruise line, but this cruise makes me think twice before automatically choosing Princess. The amenities are getting thinner all the time. There is almost no food available after 11 pm, so if you are a late owl and want to nosh after partying, not much luck. When available the food is ample and tasty, but needs to be more ubiquitous. The pop up restaurant idea in the Cafe Caribe is cute, but unsettling to customers looking for a buffet, it is just another money grab by the company. The staff appears to be stretched more thinly too, and it shows in the attitude. Many staff members are more prefunctory than fun and accommodating. On day I walked out on one of outside passenger decks and got yelled at by a deck worker. They were painting, but there were no cones or barriers or tape up indicating the area was closed, still, there was no need to yell at the passengers. The events seem to be cut short too. Many of the crafting classes are hurried and there is little teaching of the craft. In the mask making class for mardi gras the staff person was late arriving by about 10 minutes, many of the attendees had already gotten into the crafting materials and started without him. He was very short and mean spirited about it and insisted that all of the things be returned because he had to distribute them, it kind of went downhill from there. My wife attended the paper star making class which she really, so not all crafts were badly run. Many of the events are based on reality and competition TV shows and don't really come off well in the cruise venue. The production shows were a highlight of the cruise. The first night ENCORE, was the best production number I have seen on a cruise anywhere. The singers and dancers were superb and the staging was magnificent. It set a new expectation for quality that will be hard to beat. The rest of the production shows attempted to reach the same quality and while very good, did not quite accomplish the task. My time in the Princess Theater was completely enjoyable on this cruise. Princess continues to have reasonable prices at the bars and the staff are generally efficient. And on Princess the drinks are made fresh, which is not true on other lines. We sailed in an interior room this time and found it to be OK. I was surprised at the size. There was actually room on both sides of the bed to move around. I am aware as time goes on that the cabin stewards are stretched thinner and thinner. It is sometimes hard to find your steward because he is 10 or 15 cabins down. Gone are the days of the little towel animals, just not enough time with so many cabins to service. An evening bed turn down consists of throwing a couple of pieces of chocolate on the bed. Our steward was efficient and very friendly, but the day of the little niceties seem to be gone. Another casualty of the corporate bottom line. Princess is still an enjoyable cruise, but less so than in the past. I now comparison shop for the best price/quality. Read Less

We chose this cruise because the dates worked and we loved the idea of celebrating New Years on a cruise. To top it off we loved the 8 day itinerary to Curacao, Aruba and Bonaire. We knew the Crown Princess would soon dry dock and having sailed her twice before, did think we would enjoy the ship and could overlook any areas that will soon be refurbished. The overall condition of the ship was very good. Some areas showed some wear but the Piazza (atrium) was in great condition as were the pool decks and most dining areas. The decor is a touch dated in some areas, which is understandable since this ship will be refurbished in a few months. We were lucky to have some friends and family on the ship with us and we all had a pretty good time. Embarkation went well and was easy with arrival at about 10:45 am. We were 3 in an inside cabin, which is small but we know what to expect and like the layout of this inside (with separation for large open closet facing the bathroom). We traveled with our teen son and he had a great time in the kids club and hanging out at the pool deck or with friends. We had anytime dining and found the food and service to be very good to excellent most nights. I will say that the menu choices seemed to be superior or more appealing the first few nights of the cruise and less enticing the last 2-3 nights. For lunch we ate either in the buffet, which was good, or at the outdoor grill which was fine but not as good as we recalled. A star though is the International cafe!!!! Paninis of all sorts and upscale salads are served (plus desserts). This was our favorite and we ate here many times. The breakfast items were excellent as well. Our son enjoyed the room service, which is still included on Princess and we love this! We saw a couple of shows and found the guest entertainers to be very good. We opted not to see Magic to Do but of our friends/family some loved it and some didn't. What is fabulous about this ship is that there was always something happening, and something for everyone (both day and night). This ship always felt alive, whether it was that people were coming and going from a show venue, sitting at Crooners having a drink, sitting at the International cafe having coffee and a snack, at Skywalkers or at a deck party dancing or catching a movie or having a swim at the pool deck. During the day there was painting in the Piazza, crafts to be made, dancing lessons and more. Overall the service was very good. Our cabin steward was so helpful and accommodated every request easily. IC and buffet service generally very good as well. We did encounter occasional disgruntled staff which Princess should try to weed out as it must spread a negative energy. However we would never let this get in the way of how much we enjoyed and appreciated this cruise and how hard the staff do work and the great job that most do. Ports: Curacao was great and easy. We simply walked out of the fort and caught a small van for 6 to Mambo beach. We found chairs toward the left of the beach for $3.50 each. It was a nice fairly quiet beach and a good place to spend part of the day. We then went back to the ship for a quick bite and coffee at the IC and then walked through the town. We stopped for photos at the Queen Emma bridge and got a little map of the town. For those that are interested in visiting the synagogue, check the hours. We got there a few minutes after they closed at 4:30 pm unfortunately. We did stop and have a mojito at the "Worlds Best Mojito Bar" and it was pretty good!! Aruba: We took a van for 6 over to beautiful Palm Beach (near Hyatt). This is definitely the place for water activities. We hung out and some did banana boating and it was great! We also walked around the town near the ship and went into some shops. Generally we found the same stuff as in Curacao but priced higher. Bonaire: Loved this port! Lovely, unspoiled and clean, with European Caribbean charm, wow!! We took an excursion with Princess, the Mushi Dushi snorkeling in the afternoon and it was very good. We also took time in the morning and after the excursion to walk through the town and little market and just bought some salt items and a few souvenirs. All in all, another great cruise for us. We loved the ship with its 4 pools and how we could always get a deck chair. This is a really good size ship that doesn't feel too big or too small. We also appreciated the Princess @ Sea app (which was free) that we used to message others as well as to check our onboard account and the Princess Patter. Thanks Princess and happy sailing to all future cruisers. Read Less

Totally a wonderful cruise!!!!!!!!! Some of our friends declined to go on this cruise because of some of the negative reviews. My husband got to the point of not wanting to hear the latest posts from people about the ship. We've been on several of the Princess ships, Azamara, Seabourn, NCL, Carnival, Celebrity, RCCL, Believe me, our experience on this cruise was over-the-top positive. In every way. We chose to have an obstructed view on Emerald Deck 8, yes, we read the reviews about that deck. It was fine. We were midship, loved the location, and with so much to do, we were not in our stateroom that much. The holiday decorations all over the ship were still up from Christmas, so it was a festive first impression. Embarkation in FLL a BREEZE. Best ever. Disembarkation FLL this morning a BREEZE. Again, best ever. The cruise -- 2 sea days to Curacao, Aruba, Bonaire, 2 sea days back. New Year's Eve dinner and party onboard superb. The lobster dinner (lobster 3 ways) was delicious! The house band was incredible! Balloon drop fun! Ok, everything from wonderful staff to delicious food was perfect. The ship itself -- I guess there are people that like to nit-pick, but it was lovely and grand. First time on it for us. We do have to say that ALL THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF GAMES WERE ON THE TV, MOVIES UNDER THE STARS, CASINO, STATEROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was HUGE for us! We watched the Alabama-Clemson game under the stars, blowing wind, misty, but the staff walked around close to midnight with popcorn, then later with cookies. AWESOME! We departed this morning, but the NFL games were also on. We LOVED the cruise, LOVED the ship, LOVED our anytime dining waiters, tables 204,202,201 and 207 in the Michaelangelo Dining room. Our stateroom person Teguh was great. Got to run unpack. We'll be back! By the way, I rated everything 5-star because it was for us! Read Less

Past Princess cruiser. Liked the destinations and the price. My only complaint was the night they did liars club. I felt the magician who was one of the celebrities was rude, profane and obnoxious. Nothing was said about the show being PG 15 until after a lot of offensive comments. I have cruised 25 times with Princess and this was the first time I have seen people getting up and leaving the show, myself included. The shipboard staff were great, the other entertainment very good and the food was excellent. The ship is definitely in need of some cosmetic work, lots of areas need repairs. Donna my room stewart was excellent, probably one of the best I have had on a cruise regardless of the cruise line. The galley presentation and tour was excellent. I would definitely cruise on Princess again in the future. The benefits for elite passengers are the best in the industry. Read Less
