We chose this cruise with friends, as they wanted to see the British Isles. Scheduled ports in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales. This particular itinerary included Liverpool, which interested us as we are big Beatles fans. Well....... They give you the embarkation berth number, but not the GATE at Southampton. Our driver had to ask around and take 20 extra minutes or more to get us to the ship. Embarkation was fairly easy. Immediately disappointed by the SIZE of the cabin. Paid extra for Concierge Level suite. Ha Ha, it is exactly the same as less expensive cabins on other decks, it's just on deck 7. What advantage does that give you??? NONE! No concierge service, no great perks, just a tiny cabin with a tiny bathroom that costs a lot of money. The food that they rave about as being BEST of any cruise line did not prove to be outstanding. Most dinners were good, a couple were POOR----tough meat, or extreme lack of seasoning. We liked Toscana much better than Polo Grill. Entertainment was pretty good. The singers had great voices. Service: hit and miss. Some good, some average, some poor. Shore Excursions: two good ones, two POOR ones, all expensive. One cancelled because we lost two ports due to bad weather! We had been on Oceania before. But we are not sure we will go with them again. Not a good value for the money. Read Less

This was our second Oceania cruise. We were on the Nautica cruising the Baltic. We thought food was nothing special. It was good quality, but it lacked any special flavours. It was nowhere as good as we experienced on our previous Oceania cruise. The service was fine but the last few days the service in the Terrace Café fell away significantly. The entertainment was outstanding for relatively small cruise ship. The berths at the ports were varied with some close to the city and others some quite a distance from the city. The excursions were just okay. We found them to be rushed and not very informative. They charged the equivalent of $150 USD for a walking tour that you can pick up at the local tourist office for $10 USD. There was too much free time, wasted time, long toilet breaks and waiting for people who get lost. I am aware that some other cruise lines have two guides, one at the front and one at the rear. Good idea. Wine prices were nothing short of extortion. French village wines which would retail in France for 20 Euro per bottle were about 15 Euro per glass plus 18% gratuities. They would charge 80 Euro for a reasonable quality bottle plus 18%. The enrichment talks were okay but they were fairly shallow for those of us interested in history. There was only limited time spent on the history of cities on our itinerary. Read Less

My husband and I were on the Nautica for the 10-day Western Europe Escapade. We sailed from the Port of Rome to Barcelona and then visited Cartagena, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Oporto, Portugal; Bilbao, Spain; and Bordeaux, France. It ended in Southhampton, from which we were bused to Heathrow. The very beginning of our cruise was also the worst part of it. I thought it would make things easier to let Oceania book the flights and airport transfers. The flight from Seattle to Heathrow was long but not too bad. We paid extra for premium economy. Then it was a couple-hour flight to Rome. We were supposed to be met by Oceania representatives once we cleared customs and retrieved our checked bags. We did find the people, but they accused us of being "late" and said the bus had already left. Believe me, we had come through as quickly as we could, not even stopping to use the bathroom. We and one other hapless couple were told we would have to wait until there were more people for a fuller bus. By this time we were exhausted, hungry and getting very irritated. After about two hours, just when we were about to find private transportation, we were told we could get on the bus. Ninety minutes later we were on board, sipping Champagne in our stateroom. We found the ship quite stately and attractive, especially the artwork that was everywhere. The public rooms were beautiful and pleasant. We particularly enjoyed Martinis Bar and Horizons at the top of the ship. It was fairly warm for our first couple of days in Spain, and I did get a chance to enjoy the very small swimming pool. But for most of the cruise, the pool and all the lovely lounges around it sat empty. It was too cold and windy even to sit outside, much less swim. I loved the weightlifting equipment in the gym and spent a fair amount of time on the treadmills and stationary bikes. Although Oceania boasts it has the finest cuisine at sea, I found the food uneven. For example, one evening, at the buffet I had sliced roast turkey, which was moist and quite good. Another day I tried the roast beef, which was tough and inedible. The main dining room featured many choices, but some were disappointing. For example, I sometimes like to order Eggs Benedict, but these were way overcooked, more like hard-boiled than poached. Possibly the best food was at the grill, which mostly served simple burgers and the like. But since it was partly open to the air, and it was so cold much of time, we couldn't eat there very often. I did appreciate the 24/7 "coffee bar" at Horizons. We didn't go to any of the evening shows, but my husband and I really enjoyed the string quartet that played for afternoon tea at Horizons and at other times. We also liked the jazz piano player in Martinis. Best of all was the lecturer, Dr. Stephen Wesley. He did a good job of preparing us for the many architectural styles to be found in Barcelona and for the classical underpinnings of so much of modern Europe. Service was excellent. Our room was made up promptly twice a day and was always immaculate. The only problem was keeping it that way since it was so small our stuff tended to get strewn about. This was a good itinerary. We especially loved Cartagena, Oporto, Bilbao and Bordeaux. Probably our best single day was our first day in Bordeaux. We got there a little before noon, got off the ship and walked into the town. Even though it was raining we found it quite beautiful and soon found a little place to have lunch. That evening we had a very special excursion to a chateau in the Haut-Medoc. The winery owner led us on a tour of the cellars, including the "secret cellar" where the best wine was hidden during the Nazi occupation during World War II. Then she escorted us to the dining room of her chateau, where we had a very French dinner (including foie gras) with appropriate wines throughout. Would I go again? Probably not on Oceania. For the approximately $20,000 we spent (including $500 each for that tour and dinner at the chateau), I think I could do better. Read Less

I fell in love with Oceania in 2013 on the Marina going from Sydney to Papeete (and have never seen that same itinerary again); which was glorious. The staff knew our names within the first few days, the rooms were spacious (granted, we had concierge level with normal sized bathrooms with tubs; as I said, it was glorious). The following year, we went on the Riviera to the Caribbean. Still enjoyed the rooms, most of the staff knew us in the first week... Then we went on a Mayan cruise, again on the Riviera... staff never knew our names... Not sure when ownership has changed, or what has made each trip slightly more disappointing, but this last trip is likely our last with Oceania for awhile. Nothing terrible, but for what we pay, for what we were treated to the first cruise, it's time to try other lines and see. And book our own guides; without question. NEVER will we book excursions through Oceania (just like we will NEVER book our flights through Oceania either - learned the very hard way). Yes, the Nautical is smaller than the Riviera and Marina... and it felt like it. The cabin space was much tighter (Concierge, Deck 7), the bathroom was shockingly tiny - barely bigger than an airline toilet, except stick a one person shower in. Fewer passengers, more attention by staff? No, not really. Very hit and miss. The first few days, we wondered if we were on the same line as we'd been before, as we were frequently ignored by staff, particularly in the Terrace Cafe (which is often very crowded, and as it's smaller, you are forced to push through the middle to get anywhere) as we would sit and sit, waiting to be approached, and then once we finished our food, our plates sat for some time. At one point someone in our party asked the server if she could please get a smoothie that we saw someone else had at another table. "You have to go outside to Waves Grill to get a smoothie; we don't have them here." Huh? We know where they're made; and not to sound spoiled, but again, the level of service which we were treated to initially ("of course I will get one for you; which flavor would you like?"), this was a bit shocking. One elderly member of our party, who had been helped instantly in the past with carrying her plates from the buffet to her table, was frequently brushed by staff hurrying to get by. On occasion in the dining room (the GRAND DINING ROOM!!), we literally set our timers to see how long it would take the waiters to remove our dishes from our finished main courses. 15 minutes. Fifteen minutes, we sat, as waiters and assistants bustled around us, filling glasses at the tables around us, as well as changing the table clothes at the other TWO EMPTY tables near us. The maitre d' even passed by, asking all the OTHER tables how their meal was... and turned his head as he passed by us. We figured we were in the invisible zone. It was bizarre. THEN. We complained. We expressed our disappointment, and frankly, surprise, at the low level of service. We were not angry, merely saddened by the decline in service. Like a magic wand had been waved (or, a memo went out to everyone?), BAM! From that point on, we were greeted by name, someone appeared to help with carrying plates, asked if we would like this or that... it was a complete 180; it was lovely. And it was much appreciated. But - why did it take us complaining? I can only say great things about the housekeeping and room service staff; always they were delightful and followed through on any request. The shows? Meh. Not my type. Again, I get it's not a big ship. I'm not interested in a Broadway or Vegas show, but I'm also not interested in cheesy glitz and spotlight singers (not much depth). Again, the first cruise, the comedians in particular, were fantastic. This time, old jokes, tried and ... acceptable. No big laughs. Talented singers and dancers, but, felt like I was watching a grad revue. Excursions - from ok to awful. Too much of a costly risk to ever do again. The best, was our guide in Kusadasi, who actually did what I asked... to have patience with some of us, as we might be a bit slow, but we will do what we can to keep up, and she made sure she went at a reasonable pace that we could, but more so, frequently asked if we were ok, if the pace was ok, and if we had any questions or could here ok. Much appreciated. The worst? Getting on a brand new bus in Cyprus, the guide, whom again I asked to please keep an eye out for our slower group etc., only to realize hours later that the A/C on the bus did not work. Never. Did our guide call for another bus? No. Did she wait for those of us in my party? No. She didn't wait for anyone. Some could not make the steps into the amphitheater at one of the ruins, so they waited in a shady spot while the rest of us went. As we left the site, the person who hadn't gone asked, "what is that building?" as we passed by the other side of the amphitheater, and over the mic for all to hear, the guide snapped "it's the AMPHITHEATER!? Where we JUST WERE?!" Um, not all of us were, including the person who just asked that question. When we arrived at the old village, she popped off the bus and starting walking briskly, never pointing out the bathrooms that many of us needed. The bus driver showed me. I yelled out to another member of my party who was practically running to catch her to ask about the bathrooms, to let him know they were back here... I caught up to them, and the guide said, "Did something happen? I heard yelling." I replied "I was trying to get yours and others' attention to point out the bathrooms that you just walked by, as I know some of us need them." She responded, "Oh. Is that it? Can I go on then?" "Yeah, sure. You go on." And off she went. We sat around on our own, doing a bit of wandering, but not too much as to get lost... very disappointing. Overall: Ok. And if I'm paying this much, to go away for this long, I want better than OK. Read Less

This was our third cruise with Oceania. We have also cruised with Azamara, Windstar, HAL, NCL, Louis, Katarina and some river cruise operators. This cruise was 18 nights, from Shanghai to Yokohama. We flew into Shanghai, arriving the night before. We stayed at the Sofitel, which was easy to get to via train from Pudong Airport. Embarkation was smooth. In the early afternoon we got a taxi from our hotel to the Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal. This terminal is very conveniently placed not far from the Bund area of Shanghai. The Nautica was looking fine. We had an inside cabin on deck 8. We are happy with an inside cabin, as we spend little time in the cabin, and deck 8 is a convenient position. Our room stewards did a good job. We do not understand why people rave about the excellent food on Oceania. We ate in both the MDR and the Terrace Café and found the food to be consistently bland and unexciting. This was on a par with previous Oceania cruises. The best night was the Asian evening in the buffet. We were supposed to have 2 dinners each in the speciality restaurants Toscana and Polo Grill. I tried to book these online as soon as bookings were available to us, but it is virtually impossible to get any early booking for a table for 2. I was only able to book for Polo Grill on embarkation day prior to sailing. I regularly tried for cancellations on board and eventually got a booking in Toscana for the last night. Any second bookings were impossible. In our opinion the meals in the speciality restaurants are tastier than those in the MDR and The Terrace. We like the space called Horizons. This is where we sometimes sat in our free time. There were 2 lecturers. One did 2 lectures on People Watching, neither of which we attended. The other lecturer did a few destination related lectures. We went to the first one, but did not find it particularly interesting so did not attend any more. We attended a few of the concerts, which were okay. Many we knew would not be to our taste. There was just one sitting, at 9.30pm, which was a bit late for our liking. We did enjoy the string quartet which played in the Upper Hall each evening and we regularly attended these. The Oceania excursions are overpriced. We had some included in our cruise price. Sometimes, depending on the port and the public transport, it is just convenient to use one of the cruise line excursions. We did several ports on our own, and enjoy doing what we want to do at our own pace. Disembarkation was straightforward. The Osanbashi terminal at Yokohama has luggage lockers and we made use of them before using public transport to get to Narita Airport. Oceania is not our preferred cruise line, but they have some interesting itineraries. Itinerary and timing are always our major consideration when choosing a cruise. There was a lot of new territory for us in this cruise, which we enjoyed. Ports: Shanghai: We had an overnight and then a day in Shanghai following embarkation. There was a shuttle operating to the Bund, making it easy to do things in that central area on your own. The subway in Shanghai is also very easy to use. Xiamen: One day in this port is really enough, but we had an overnight stop, and 2 days. We did 2 Oceania shore excursions. We had been warned that the guides may not have very good English, but that was not the case. The first woman was young with excellent English. The second was a bit older and had more of an accent which was harder to follow. They both did a good job. The first day in Xiamen we went to Quanzhou, which is about a 90 minute drive from Xiamen. We visited the Kaiyuan Temple, which is quite extensive, and has 2 impressive stone pagodas. There are also several museums adjacent to the temple. We visited the Quanzhou Song Dynasty Shipwreck Hall. After a Chinese multi course lunch at a local hotel we went for a walk down one of the main streets, Tumen Jie. Here we saw the Qingjing Mosque and the Taoist Tonghuai Temple. The tour was okay, but we felt it was quite a long drive there and back for nothing particularly outstanding. The second day we did a tour called Tong’An Treasures. It was about an hour’s drive from the port in Xiamen to the Confucian Temple in Tong’An. After that we went to the Fantian Buddhist Temple. These were both interesting sites and we felt this tour, while shorter, was more worthwhile than the trip to Quanzhou. We were back at the cruise terminal about 1pm. Hong Kong: We had 2 half days here, each side of an overnight. Hong Kong public transport is easy to use and we have been there before, so we just did a few sites on our own. Kaohsiung: We docked about 10am. There was a shuttle which ran to the centre of town, but the timings did not suit us, to fit with our tour. Our Oceania tour did not depart until 12.30pm, so we had some wasted time waiting for it, but there was nothing much to see close to the dock. Our excursion was called Glimpses of Kaohsiung. Our first stop was Lotus Pond, a man-made lake with many temples and pagodas around it. Very touristy and a little tacky. Next stop was the Confucius Temple, then a drive to the Cijin (Qijin) district, which is the oldest part of the city. We walked along the uninspiring beachfront then down the main street, which was lined with mainly food stalls. Keelung: We did an Oceania excursion into Taipei. It included far too much time in the Palace Museum, leaving little time to see much else in Taipei. If we ever returned to this port we would probably catch the train into Taipei on our own. The cruise port is right in Keelung, a short walk from the centre of the town and the railway station. Ishigaki: We did an Oceania excursion, which was a drive around the island. Not much here to see. There was a shuttle from the ship which went a short distance to a ferry terminal – not sure how useful it would have been. Okinawa (Naha): We went into Naha on our own, using the monorail system. It is easy to get up the Shurijo castle using this public transport. It is about a 20 minute walk from the port terminal to the nearest Yui Rail station. The Oceania excursion to the castle was an exorbitant price. We checked out the main shopping area (Kokusai Dori Street) on our way back to the ship. Also stopped at the Fukushuen Garden which is near the cruise port, and well worth visiting. Nagasaki: The cruise port is close to the city. There is a tram system, but we just walked and covered quite a lot of ground including the Peace Park, churches, temples, cathedrals, Spectacles Bridge. Had a great day and saw a lot at our own pace. Hiroshima: We did an Oceania excursion, which was a fast ferry to the island of Miyajima. The ferry was just for cruise passengers and left from next to where the ship was berthed, so it was convenient, if expensive. Despite the fact it rained all day this was a highlight of our trip. We were just disappointed that the ship didn’t arrive earlier in the morning so we could have gone into the Peace Park as well as doing Miyajima. There was a shuttle that ran from the ship to a shopping centre and into the centre of Hiroshima. Kobe: We had 2 days here. The first day we did an Oceania excursion Highlights of Kyoto. It was about 100 minutes drive from the port to the Kinkakugi (Golden) Temple. We were given 90 minutes here, which was too long. There is not actually much here. You cannot go in the temple – you just walk past it, through the gardens. Then there are lots of souvenir shops. We were then taken to a Japanese Restaurant for lunch. Nice restaurant in a pleasant garden setting. Meal nicely presented, but not too our taste, with a lot of raw fish. The afternoon stop was Nijo Castle. We were only given 80 minutes here, which was not long enough. There is not much to see in the “castle” itself, though the building is quite impressive. The grounds are extensive and the cherry blossom was just beginning to bloom. There was minimal time for the gardens, but we dashed through them and covered quite a lot before a quick stop in the souvenir shop. Our second day in Kobe we did Oceania’s Panoramic Osaka tour. It took a little under an hour for the drive from the port to Osaka. It was a public holiday so the roads were quiet. We visited Osaka Castle, just the outside. It was quite a long walk from the bus park to the castle and we were only given 45 minutes here, which was too short. There are lots of photo opportunities in the grounds, as the castle is quite picturesque. Next we went to the Umeda Sky Tower, where we went up to the open rooftop on the 41st floor for great views over Osaka. After the quick look at Osaka we were back at the ship about 1.30pm, so we used the ship shuttle to go into Kobe. Went to the observation deck on floor 24 of the City Hall for the views, then to the impressive Ikuta Jinja Shrine. Wandered the streets and shops a bit before returning to the ship about 5pm, in deteriorating weather. Yokohama: We did an Oceania Highlights of Tokyo tour. Traffic was dreadful and it took 2 hours on the bus to reach the Senso-ji Temple in Tokyo. Very busy, impressive temple. Adjacent is the Nakamisedori shopping street. Then we had lunch in a Japanese barbecue restaurant, which was quite pleasant. Next we went to the Meiji Shrine. There are extensive grounds around this shrine. We just had time to take the shortest route through the forest and the shrine. Because some people got lost returning to the bus, which delayed our departure from Meiji, we had the 50 minutes we were supposed to have at our next stop cut in half. So at Tokyo Tower the 25 minutes we were given was barely long enough to get to the top of the tower, take a few photos, and get straight back down. We could have had a bit longer, as the traffic returning to Yokohama was much lighter and we got back to the ship in less than one hour. I think you really need to stay right in Tokyo for a few days to do it justice, but we had no time to extend our holiday beyond the end of the cruise. After an overnight we disembarked in Yokohama. There are luggage lockers in the Osanbashi terminal building and we used them so we could spend the morning exploring the port area of Yokohama. They have really made an effort in this town, with pleasant gardens along the waterfront. We also walked through Chinatown and went up to the observation deck in the Landmark Tower. We had an evening flight from Narita, so in the afternoon we collected our luggage, and walked up to the Nihon-dori Station to catch a train to Yokohama, then the Narita Express to the airport. We loved our previous cruise with Marina and wanted to try another Oceania cruise. We selected this particular cruise because it was exactly the itinerary we wanted. We had been to Japan before but wanted to spend time in Kyoto and Tokyo, and we wanted to return to Hong Kong and Shanghai. The itinerary was exactly what we wanted. It also helped knowing that this cruise line quite often provides transfer to the port city centers free of charge. After Marina, it was difficult for the Nautica to compete. The food was good, better than any of the other five or six cruise lines we have used before, but not Marina-quality. The service excelled. Far, far better than other cruise lines, and there is no "nickel and diming" which was the reason we stopped cruising previously. Our cabin was quite well-maintained. We will be cruising with Oceania Nautica again, in January, which tells the tale. However, I must agree with others that the Destinations planning, lack of shore information, and the tours needed a lot of work. Our ship excursions provided guides that did not speak English well, no hearing sets were provided although there were very large groups on the excursions, and the excursion groups bumped up against other excursion groups on the same ship. Although the execution of the excursions was poor, the planning was very good. The excursion destinations were very good. Read Less

Maybe it's a matter of expectations and what you consider expensive. With an average verandah room and the cost of $16,000 for a 15 day cruise, we had high expectations. This was by far the most expensive cruise we have ever taken. It was a stretch for our finances. The room was smaller than those we have had in the past on other cruise lines and the bathroom space rivaled that on an airplane. For the cost, we could have had a suite on HAL, Celebrity, or Princess. But we chose Oceania because of the itinerary and loved that most stops in Vietnam were overnight. Plus, being on a small ship it could dock up the rivers and be centrally located in Saigon and Bangkok, where the larger ships would be 2 hours away on the coast. The dining room had a few missteps as far as proper cooking of steaks and eggs. They were very slow, no matter which meal, to get the courses out. I found a two hour dinner just too long. The specialty restaurants were no better than the main dining room. I would not recommend the O Life. We could not get a custom air route that we wanted, so Oceania made the flight arrangements, which were beyond awful. We took only 1 "free" excursion, which my husband then told me "never again". The group tour was 5 or 6 buses going to Hue together and the bathroom situation was so bad, I couldn't drink water until we got back aboard the ship. I booked last minute private tours for the other ports. We did not care for the entertainment and the fact that there was no theater but a lounge instead. I kept thinking, "Is this worth three times the amount of Celebrity?" and the answer is, no. Overall, it was a disappointment. Read Less

We chose the cruise based on its itinerary. We wanted to go to the main ports of the UK and Ireland. The ship docked at Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin, Liverpool, Holyhead, Waterford and the Isle of Portland. A similar cruise on the Caribbean Princess didn’t dock at Newcastle where we had friends living. It was a much smaller (mid-size) ship than the ones we had sailed on prior. We had a Veranda Stateroom. We were suprised at the small sized bathroom. If you disregard the small shower, the room was about the size of an airplane’s toilet. However, they had turned the toilet at an angle towards the wall, which meant you couldn’t use it without pressing your knees into the wall. It would be impossible for a tall person to use it. Other than that the stateroom and veranda were mostly as we had found on the Celebrity and HAL cruises. There was also a lot of noise from the engine when they were traveling around 16 knots. We were near the back of the ship where the engine room is. I guess when the ship was built soundproofing material was scarce. Our perks were a free beverage package, free internet and 6 free excursions. The agency also kicked in a $550 onboard credit. We found the excursions to be extremely expensive compared to celebrity and HAL offerings. Also the Nautica excursions were mostly a short half day in length. We decided to book our own tours directly with the tour companies through Viator etc. We saved a ton of money doing so and the tour content was much fuller than the Ship’s tours. Overall the food selection was excellent. Cabin staff were ok. We thought that being on a smaller ship would mean less wait times the main dining room and buffet but that was not the case. Entertainment was mainly individual singers. Because of the September weather, no one was using any of the outdoor amenities. The entertainment system in the stateroom was out of date with small screen TV and a DVD player for DVD’s obtained at the main reception desk. Overall, the ship got us to where we wanted to go. It was a last minute deal for us and had a an itinerary that ticked quite a few boxes. The itinerary was great, Baltic, followed by around the UK. We had sailed the Regatta so expected the same on the Nautica and hoped their cuisine had expanded to include simple, tasty dishes. The meals were far too rich for us and service was very spasmodic. Getting a simple meal was almost impossible. We managed to get a few on the first leg after a personal interview with the Manager but he left after that leg and the new Manager did not seem to care and some of the staff were disdainful and rude towards the end of the journey. They ask for feedback but do not seem to enjoy working with the clients to achieve a positive outcome. It will be interesting to see if head office gives us any feedback on the final comments form! We have booked another for next year and will try to clarify what plain wholesome food means before sailing. Again it has been chosen for the itinerary and that we are able to couple it with a river cruise, which helps justify the airfare and air times from Australia. Read Less

We chose this for the fabulous itinerary, ending up with three sunny days in St Petersburg. The tours were good, the on-board lectures about our destination were outstanding. The food was excellent, especially in the specialty restaurants, which proved quite easy to book. The passengers were mostly American, and not as old and decrepit as you get on some ships; there were also quite a few Australians and New Zealanders, hardly any British. The crew were mostly from the far East and Europe and went out of their way to be helpful. You could dine at any time and had the chance to meet different people at a shared table if you wanted. The entertainment was pretty poor - naff comedians, rather amateur shows, scratchy classical music. The casino was large and almost always empty. Oceania should replace it with more shops or other use. The shops were unimaginatively stocked - the usual cheap jewellery at inflated prices, as well as some real jewellery, and clothes and bags that you would not look at on land. Nothing useful. The library was extensive, but very American - fiction by authors and biographies of people I had never heard of, so bring your own reading material. The wifi was incredibly expensive, over $300 for two weeks, and it hardly worked. We had sailed on this ship when it was Renaissance nearly 20 years ago and connection had hardly improved since then. There was not much help from the IT staff. We waited until on shore to try to get a decent connection, but Oceania should not charge so much for a poor service. Also they charge a gratuity on every drink, and then expect you to pay another huge gratuity per day at the end of the trip - this is exorbitant. We were lucky with the weather until the final day. Disembarkation at Stockholm was awful - try to avoid Stockholm - the "terminal" was a tent erected in the pouring rain, with no chairs, no toilets, no facilities, just luggage awaiting pickup. Passengers had to stand in whatever cover they could find, waiting for taxis to arrive outside a metal fence. Disembarkation left a bad taste after a very good journey otherwise. Read Less

Having been on many cruises booked this one on a whim a bit too late for a good cabin. We thought we would not care on this itinerary since it would be too cold for a balcony--it was --but our mid-ship low deck cabin would become an inside cabin as the porthole window was often closed in bad weather. An advantage was we had litttle of the motion affected the higher lever cabins. We had Oceania book our flights and transfers and took 4 tours with the line. The transfer were long with lots of wasted wait time . Next time i will book these myself. We booked two tours privately and used the ships shuttles and off-on-busses in Dublin and Edinburgh . The quality of the tours varied--some better than others . We were late getting to iceland so one of our tours started at 8 pm but we still had a beautiful sunset and views of the city. The next day Golden Circle ships tour took us to beautiful but crowded areas. Apparently Iceland is getting too much love with too many crowds. We missed the Fjors in Greenland because of the weather and our stops in Greeland otherwise were unfortunately underwhelming. We did not go on any tours but i did hike some of the area and it provided some views of rock formations. The food and dining venues and the service were both excellent--the food was too wonderful --too many choices--too many excellent deserts. I frankly prefer a bit less temptaion but this was a group of people who liked to eat and sometimes it was hard to find a table when there was a small window for breakfast or lunch due to tours. The ship had a large library--pleasant but often a place where folks were asleep due to the very rocky placement on high seas. The book selection was large but not very interesting or varied. It would seem in the day of the e-reader the s-ace could be used for something else. In bad weather the ship felt crowded since we could not use any of the oudoor venues or decks. Lots of good music , a very good high tea , no lines at reception, generally good entertainment but we did not always attend since our dinners ran late and sitting was limited. Some interesting people but others definitely less so. The crowd was older and mainly English speaking couples--generally American but some Canadians . Surprisingly there were not many from the UK . There were some with mobility issues making tenders difficult at times in rough seas. The Destinations crew consisted of only two people. That is an area that the ship could use more service. We have cruised twice before on Oceania: once on Marina and once before on Nautica. While the itinerary was great, the food service was lacking. We enjoyed the ports of call and took a number of ship sponsored tours and found them all to be of good quality. The ship and its cabins are nice and the personnel all provided great service. But we felt that the service and quality of the dining experience was poor. To being, 1) the push for all to share tables becomes tedious: we are not at summer camp where we have to make new friends. 2) The itinerary took us to places where the outdoor temperatures were not conducive to outdoor dining, so the Terrace Cafe indoor seating was always packed. 3) The majority of times we went to the Terrace Cafe, we couldn't find a table (even if you were willing to share). When we complained, we were told they loose over a 100 seats due to the cold weather. 4) The Grand Dining room was our answer but they staffing has been greatly reduced and the service is slow and many times what you ordered wasn't what got delivered. 5) It seemed like much of the wait staff was new. All of the wait staff was very pleasant just overwhelmed. The pluses for Oceania are the free water and soft drinks and the lack of cross selling. But with the pricing difference, one needs to do more price comparisons. We are not as sold on Oceania as we had been. Also, disembarkation was rushed. We had to be out of our cabins by 8:00 am and off the ship by 9:00 am. Read Less

When we entered the room we had to get housekeeping to come back and clean the room. The service was not consistent throughout the ship. There were some wonderful people, trying very hard to please us and there were some that were actually rude. Many times I got up to ask for water or coffee. In the main dining room, had to wait for tea, or dessert. Sometimes we were served our meals at different times. The specialty dining was good but the main dining room and the buffet food varied. The food lacked the consistency that it had before when everything was delicious. The shuttles at the port were not run well. Sometimes they only provided service every hour and if that shuttle was full, you had to wait for the next one. We took taxis from the ports. When I told someone on board the problems with late shuttles or shuttles not coming--they said it was the ports problem not theirs. Going from a dedicated Oceania customer who adored the trip 5 years ago, I will no longer travel or recommend Oceania cruises. I must say, however, that there were some lovely employees on board who tried their best but there were some that really needed to be retrained (or trained or let go). I also feel that they may have cut back on staff to save money. IT JUST WASN'T THE SAME. The buyout could be the explanation. Read Less

After having just read the review by Shoko I feel like we shared the exact same experience! I, too, discovered that Oceania was bought out by NCL and also found out that NCL is trying to 'come up' to Oceania's high standards. Well, in dong so, I often felt that Nautica was going DOWN to NCL! My husband and I were always promoting Oceania to our friends in EVERY area from service to food to the way that we were taken care of when we landed in the ports, etc. After this cruise we won't be able to do so and will have to consider whether we will take our next cruise on Oceania or pick a different line! While embarkation did go smoothly and I was greeted by our darling room attendant who was most eager to know what she could do to make sure we had everything we wanted exactly as we desired for our stay, I was amazed that something as simple as not having the Kleenex box filled in the cabin had been overlooked; Then we were to disembark it was almost as if we were to be literally thrown out as quickly as possible since items in the fridge had been disposed of the night before our departure. While most of the servers in the various dining venues went above and beyond to be charming and helpful (and I've mentioned them in my review sent directly to Oceania) there were the occasional who were close to downright rude; this would never have happened on a past Oceania cruise. For the most part the food was good and occasionally excellent but when one orders a Jacques Pepin signature dish (steak/frites) and gets an inedible piece of meat that is overcooked it makes one wonder. The final disappointment was the manner in which we were treated when it came to the ports. In the past there have always been shuttles when we didn't get off within EASY walking distance to the town/city. Here we either didn't have a shuttle (Gibralter) OR the shuttle came every hour and if it was filled you had to wait for the next one! When asked, we were told that Oceania had decided not to pay for the shuttle services! IF we were paying for an inexpensive cruise line I could understand being nickel and dimed but Oceania is NOT an inexpensive line so this seems to be a clear case of NCL thinking, yes? In conclusion, we'll consider our options for the future...something we never did before as we went directly to Oceania without a second thought. Read Less

My wife and I chose Oceania for the interesting itinerary - Bangkok to Athens via some exotic ports. Top on our list was Petra, Luxor and the Valley of the Kings. We were on Deck 6 near the front on the Starboard side. The cabin itself was quite tiny and the bathroom even more starved of room. We did have a balcony so there was a little more breathing space but generally, we were surprised and disappointed with the size of the cabin. Our cabin stewards were excellent and kept the place clean and tidy. We had a fair number of sea days on this voyage and unfortunately the activities on board were sadly lacking. The two male speakers lacked academic qualifications and their talks were predictably dull, lacking an overall theme. One of these gentlemen giving a talk on the Red Sea used diagrams straight from Google and tellingly pronounced Port Said as Port Siad! Activities during the day included such things as bean bag toss, ping pong and golf putting. The library on the top floor is a nice feature - it's quiet and has a fair selection of books including a paperback exchange. There was a daily quiz and all these activities revolved around Big 'O' points awarded to winners. At the end of each cruise segment, passengers could trade their points for anything from luggage tags to an Oceania top (90 points required). Having been on less expensive cruises, I expected better and was disappointed. Food was another major disappointment. The specialty restaurants are limited but free. We tried these once and cancelled our other reservations. The Maitre d' of the Italian restaurant, Polo suggested to my wife that, "Maybe madam doesn't like Italian food". My wife being Italian told him that she did like Italian food and that was the problem. The main dining room had overall very good service but as in the specialty restaurants, the food was pretentious and lacking in flavour. The mashed potatoes were good though. Waiters still have to bother you to ask if you want ground pepper. Speaking of grinders, the buffet in the Terrace Cafe had salt grinders that would either fail to work or scatter large crunchy chunks of salt onto the food. We usually had our breakfast in the Terrace Cafe. Luckily, the passenger load was substantially down and so line-ups were rare. Even so, organizing toast eggs bacon, hash browns etc involved stations on either side of the aisle. Yoghurt was low fat only. The dining room is lovely and tables for two are by the windows so were usually able to score one of these which was nice. We liked that there were no formal nights although many passengers clearly enjoyed getting gussied up for the evening. We tried the limited room service menu a couple of times and it was promptly delivered and well presented. We didn't bother much with the entertainment on board or the TV. In summary, we paid quite a lot more than an equivalent Holland America cruise for a smaller room, poorer activities and bland food. Some individual staff members were outstanding but were let down by others. We did mention our concerns after the first segment but other than an apology, nothing changed or could change. Would we cruise with Oceania again? No. In fact this cruise will be our last for a while as this experience brought home to us what we dislike about cruising. In a way, Oceania did us a favour. Our friends, who are large people had to shower half in & half out of the shower! Food was good. The staff was wonderful! Boat felt old. The beds are great, as is the bedding! The housekeeping staff couldn't do enough for us. Dinning staff was great & worked hard to make sure we were happy. Some of the ports where very far from main area. Had to drive between 2-3.5 hours to the areas the tours went. Heard from other people the bigger boats from Oceania are much nicer. Better restaurants choices also. Bottom line I know the room is not the most important part of a trip, but it would have made the trip more enjoyable! This is making me think to try a River Cruise next time. Read Less

The itinerary was the main reason for selecting this cruise. Also the boat is identical to an Azamara cruise we went on in the past which we absolutely loved. Plus Oceania was rated 1/2 star more "luxurious" than Azamara. I thought we couldn't go wrong. Post cruise: I feel the ratings are reversed. Azamara outshines Oceania for several reasons. First: Oceania charges for alcohol. OK, great. Seems cheap to me to charge for the basic package. Sure, charge for premium spirits and high-end wines, but rail pours or basic beers and wines you charge? So I emailed Oceania from their "contact us" link on their website a month before sailing to ask questions about the beverage package options posted on their website. Oceania did not respond to my message. OK great, their customer service is also lacking and I haven't even embarked yet. Second: Sometimes the customer service on board was just as lacking as the customer service prior to embarking. Several times when we dined at Terrace Cafe or Waves Grille, we sat for a long time before being greeted by the wait staff. Service there was hit or miss. Examples of some of the more frustrating incidents (there were many, many more but these are the highlights): (1) At Waves Grille we sat at a table that was recently vacated by another couple so the table was dirty - but all the other tables were taken and dirty table was the only choice. We sat there for several minutes and no wait staff helped us. Another table next to us vacated and another couple sat at that dirty table. Immediately wait staff helped the other couple at the other table. So, after a 3rd table near us vacated and we still weren't helped, I started clearing the dirty dishes from our table and placed them on the recently vacated table and a waiter finally approached us to get us clean dishes, silverware and beverages. It's as if we were invisible for a good 10 minutes. (2) In Terrace Cafe we had the worst time on several occasions getting wait staff to provide us with beverages. This is a buffet for food only - all beverages must be provided by wait staff. If that's the case, put more staff on shift during dining hours. The current level of staff is not adequate. How are you going to sell more alcoholic beverages (since you don't have all-inclusive pricing) if your staff is not attentive? And when we'd finally flag down someone to ask if we could place a drink order, there were a couple wait staff who seemed downright frustrated we'd dare to pester them for beverages. I think they might have been managers because I often saw them standing around telling other people to do things and then the staff would be so focused on rearranging chairs for empty tables than focused on customers sitting there needing help from wait staff. Then if our iced tea or wine or beer was empty, no one was coming around to ask if we'd like more even though we were dining there with clearly empty beverages. Again, we'd have to flag down staff to request more. (3) We finally gave up on the "seat yourself" dining venues and decided the Grand Dining Room would be better because then we'd have a dedicated waiter who would help us. Fantastic. Well, we had completed the mid-cruise feedback survey and as soon as we sat down in the Grand Dining Room someone came to our table to say, "Thank you for the feedback, I'm so sorry about your experience. Can I get you a glass of wine for the trouble?" Sure - we'll each take a glass of wine since you're charging for it normally. This is a kind gesture. As expected, dinner at the Grand Dining Room was much better because of a dedicated waiter. And then at the end of the meal the waiter charged us for the wine anyway. OK, so whomever greeted us and thanked us for our feedback didn't communicate to the waiter that he offered us this wine as a "sorry for the poor service" gesture. We did not argue with the bill because we were just....done. Then there was the late night entertainment, or lack thereof. They had a singing and dancing troupe which was talented. However, they were not diverse. I mean, how can you have a Motown themed night and not have one diverse member of the troupe? Take a look at the real artists who made Motown famous - not a single singer/dancer on board had any ethnic diversity resembling Motown. Get my drift? Then the 10th floor Horizons bar was DEAD every night. Hire a DJ. That's my best advice. Not everyone on this cruise is retired or asleep by 9pm. Hire a DJ and the people who are not retired (and even some who are) will be out on that dance floor till bar close. This is where Azamara outshines Oceania BY FAR. We were in the bar every night on our Azamara cruise dancing till bar close to a DJ. The "jukebox" thing they have on Oceania is like an iPad itunes list. Oh, and they have a sub woofer in front of it so it's difficult to access. We were immensely disappointed in the "night" scene. We had an inside stateroom and we felt the bed should be positioned differently OR should not be positioned IN FRONT OF the mirrors on the wall. Mirrors in small spaces make the space feel bigger. Think about how that's configured and I bet you can come up with something a bit better. Positives about the cruise: our stateroom attendant, Sunil, was amazing. The bartender at the pool bar, Jasmina, was fantastic. There were waiters and waitresses at the pool bar that were also fantastic (cannot remember all their names). The Destination Services team were GREAT! We were on a couple excursions where they also attended and it was fun getting to talk with them a little bit. They were very down to earth and respectful. The Reception staff was always well informed and helpful. And I have to say the cruise director, David, was always on point. All in all, we decided we will not cruise Oceania again. It's OK. But there's better. Azamara will be getting our cruising business going forward. Read Less

I had never spent this kind of money for a cruise before and was expecting that the cruise would match the dollars I had spent. It came no where near what I had paid. The cost worked out to $436 Canadian ($333 US) each a day for the cruise. That is a lot of money when I started to figure out what each segment of the cruise would cost if I had arranged my own transport. So I expected top notch service. I have cruised on six other cruise lines and Oceania is only marginally better than the other cruise lines. I have complained on other cruise lines of being nickeled and dimed but Oceania hundred and fifty dollars you. They were charging $99 each to go from Capetown Airport to the cruise ship. I paid $28 for two by arranging it myself. The cost of going from the ship to Singapore Airport from Oceania was $99 each. We paid a cab picked up at the terminal $18 Singapore dollars for two. The cheapest bottle of wine was $45 for a wine we found in South Africa for $8. Now Oceania did allow us to bring all the wine we wanted on board. First time I have ever experienced that. The tours were also very expensive and could be found for much less privately. At $250 a pop for tours we arranged for $125 or less that covered twice was the Oceania tour covered. The food while other passengers raved was mediocre. It was beautifully presented but not a great flavour palette. Found out the chef on our ship didn't believe in using salt. It showed in flavour. The buffet will not allow you to serve yourself. You have to tell the server how many pieces of watermelon, orange slices etc you want. When asked why we were told it was the policy of the ship to serve clients. It took forever to get food. My biggest complaint was the ports. I hadn't done a lot of research ahead of time and the ports were minimally interesting at best. The only interesting port was Penang. We spent two days in the Maldives and I have no idea why. It is an hour tour at best. Sadly I got off the ship questioning why I cruise. I spent 76% of the cruise on the ship. If I had planned to do it all privately I would have spent more time on shore instead on a lounge chair waiting. Oceania is all hype. Yes it is a bit more higher end but does not match the price paid. I felt ripped off. Read Less

We recently returned from a 15 day round trip cruise from Cape Town, SA. The food was outstanding - the best we have ever had on 14 cruises (all on other lines). The service was mostly good, but there were a few instances of surly attitudes among the staff. I also liked not having to pay for dining in specialty restaurants, free water and soft drinks, no formal nights and no one taking your photo every time you turn around. On the other hand, there wasn't much else to rave about on this ship. Oceania markets themselves as an upscale luxury cruise line. Such is not so. They do charge premium prices, in this instance about 250% above what a similar verandah stateroom on HAL, Cunard or Princess would cost for the same room - but you don't get anything more. Our cabin was equivalent to cabins we have had on the aforementioned lines with the exception that HAL's bathrooms are larger! Particularly noteworthy bad was the Nautica's shore excursion program. It was staffed by two young relatively inexperienced people with the more experienced supervisor making himself invisible. We went on 8 excursions, four of them were relatively good and the other four were mediocre. One was advertised as a cultural tour of a Xulu tribal village, but was nothing more than a visit to a 1985 TV set with two hours of coffee and shopping time. Another tour was a desert 4x4 vehicle that broke down in the Namib desert after getting a flat, getting mired in the sand, missing three of the six stops and arriving back in port almost an hour late. Oceania did fully refund the cost of that trip but only after getting permission to do so from their home office in Miami (the shipboard staff should have had discretion to offer the full refund since it was a no-brainer). The 4x4 driver was also ill equipped to handle the breakdown. He had a tire jack that did not work, no radio or walkie-talkie for communicating with the other vehicles in the convoy and the next day he went out on the same tour without a spare tire! Does Oceania even bother to vet the companies they use for shore excursions? Oceania doesn't really appear to take their shore excursion program seriously, with most tours sold out weeks before they embark, a confusing pricing structure with three different price levels for the same tours, and a fee shore excursions program that only allows you to take excursions up to $199, but won't allow you to pay the difference if you select a pricier tour. We picked this particular cruise because of the itinerary and for the most part we enjoyed the ports, although we failed to visit Maputo, Mozambique because the captain said the weather was going to be bad (heavy rain all day, but the actual weather was 74 degrees and cloudy all day) and nothing would be open on Christmas Day - so we stayed in Richards Bay overnight (described in travel books as an industrial port with nothing much of interest; nothing was open there either, which begs the question was does Oceania schedule port visits on Christmas Day - it should be a day at sea. I believe the real reason for the port cancellation in Maputo were the rumors that 6 passengers from the Nautica on the prior cruise were robbed in town. We are not likely to take another cruise on the Nautica (a 17-year old ship), but may give Oceania another chance to prove themselves on one of there larger ships. Read Less

I chose this cruise line due its reputation for providing the finest cuisine at sea, and its reputed service provided by the high crew to staff ratio. We sailed from Piraeus Greece to Dubai on a 20 day cruise and were really looking forward to our concierge balcony stateroom which was our first disappointment. The cabin furniture had seen better days and was covered in a dark varnish which gave the room a gloomy feel. The carpet badly needed a shampoo as it had a stained and dirty appearance. The bathroom was very small and god help you if you dropped the soap whilst in the shower cubicle. We have had better cabins on other cruise lines and wonder how Oceania can label it concierge and price it as such. On the plus side, were the efficient and friendly cabin staff. The two speciality dining venues whilst imposing no surcharge failed to impress. The steaks in the Pole Grill were overcooked (my medium rare steak came well done) and was as tough as old boots The grand dining room was probably the best choice for evening meals as It provided adequate fare on a consistent basis and occasionally provided excellent meals. The terrace cafe was simply a disgrace. Food that should have been served hot was barely warm. Food hygiene was poor. Whilst in some ports, the food was left uncovered and much enjoyed by the large number of flies that chose to settle on it.. When asked why the food was not covered, I was told that it should be!! I then asked why it wasn't, I was given a shrug. Little things like warm milk being served with breakfast cereals or pots of tea filled with water that clearly wasn't hot enough to make a proper cup of tea are examples of the lack of detail one wouldn't expect on a ship of this class. Food overall fell short of the boast that Oceania provides the best cuisine at sea. The coffee shop was serviced by the most surly of staff who clearly didn't want to be there Entertainment and guest speakers were second rate at best Excursion were overpriced as were the drinks on board. I have enjoyed cruising on many different lines and can say in all honesty that Oceania Nautica's cuisine, entertainment and service fell short of all of them. The destinations of Iceland and Greenland were new to us and were as hoped for. We had sailed with Oceania before on Insignia and thoroughly enjoyed it with good shows and lectures. This one was different as the shows were poor (although did improve at the end of the trip) and the excuse of all cabins booked so no room for entertainers did not wash! And the single lecturer was, in our opinion, awful. The library was OK but seemed to be based on the NY times bestsellers. There are much better libraries on other ships. The food was fine, the wine list better than expected and the service was excellent. We will need to go on an extended diet as the sweets were perhaps too sweet! We particularly liked the daily updates from the captain, entertaining and informative. Would we go again? Only if the itinerary was really good and the main competition did not offer a similar deal. We have cruised many times with mid-size ships primarily on Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Princess and wanted to see if we'd enjoy the "lite" luxury of Oceania. Pros: Small ship experience, no crowds. No art sales, photos & photos to buy/or not, no formal nights as found on mass-market cruises, which was very refreshing. Country club casual is not at the high end, versus Oceania's brochure ware. Everyone dressed nicely, just not too fancy. Majority of men did not wear sports jackets to dinner, usually long sleeve shirts (no ties), and slacks. Didn't see too many fancy cocktail dresses on women either. The crew was friendly and service was attentive, even at breakfast or lunch buffet. Again, no crowds. Tours are very expensive, however, the guides and companies are better than experienced on other cruise lines. There was a mix of passenger types as you would find on other cruise lines, most from America, with a smattering from other English speaking countries. Everyone friend. Disappointments: Oceania is often touted as a foodie line. However, it did not live up to all the hype. My wife had high expectations because of Jacques Pépin, and we were disappointed. The food on Celebrity and Royal Caribbean is just as good. The specialty restaurant Toscana was the one bright exception! A side note: Wine by the bottle is exceptionally expensive (especially considering the wine list). If wine is important to you I'd bring on your own and pay the corking fee. Summary: I would cruise Oceania again for the small ship experience, itinerary, and good service (not for the food). Read Less

We have completed 5 cruises, 3 on Nautica back to back and 2 on Marina back to back in the last 18 months. Chose to return to Nautica for our 6th cruise of 18 nights as we found Marina impersonal and lacking the atmosphere of Nautica. We had immediate problems with Internet access and speed. We both run businesses so Internet access is very important consideration. We had free wifi access package for one device at a time which I think many many other passengers also had. We would have paid double the charged price if wifi to have slow but reliable connection. That apparently doesn't matter. No how much you are prepared to pay apparently you get nothing more. We accept the explanation that satellite internet is far slower than on shore but in he past Nautica and Marina offered speeds which were just tolerable. This last cruise on Nautica Internet access was unacceptable in this day and age. The explanation from the IT manager is simply 600 guests and crew using Internet make it slow. It is even slower and at times non existent when docked. I even tried setting my alarm and trying log in at 3.00am as most of the oldies would be in bed. It didn't help speed just as slow at this time also. We also had an issue with our Indian visa due to receiving an email with important information meaning I applied for one that was not valid for sea port arrival. Not the ships fault but their attitude when we asked for help was to say they would see what they could do perhaps a group visa. It turned out after having to ask twice again that they knew hey couldn't help but hadn't told us. There answer was for us to get off at either Phuket or Yangon the next stops after Singapore. The two issues both of which seemed were unsolvable, Internet access and visa, made us decide to disembark at Singapore after 6 nights. We could not afford for our businesses the hopelessness of the Internet. It was costing us more than we lost leaving early. When we appeared at Reception to say we were leaving they were nonplussed and after some ten minutes of radio class to the Chief Purser Second Purser and god knows who else we finalised our account and left. It seemed to be of little interest to management staff. One highlight not to be missed on Nautica the is the ability to watch the much revered Jacqueline Pepin,who Oceania puts much faith in for their food offering, age through threats from young man to middle aged to senior. The never ending loop is hilarious but not as hilarious as the extortionate liquor prices on board. Still they do let you bring your own alcohol on board which helps. So that's it for us and Oceania and their much touted food offering. Until they are able to upgrade and offer better connectivity for younger passengers which is required in this modern world I don't see any hope of us returning for our Big O points anytime soon. The one thing that makes Nautica, and my hat off to them, are the cabin attendants, food servers, wait people. You know, all the staff that are paid less that Management or Officers. They are great. We chose this cruise for ports and because there was bridge. Embarkation was easy; disembarkation was chaos. We were given times to disembark in groups. Repeated announcements said Indian officials were not ready, but did not tell later groups to wait. Group after group added to the crowd. The ship was lovely, the cabin spacious, though we had a penthouse suite, which was actually a room with a sitting area, not a suite. The food was mostly above average, desserts were excellent, service was wonderful. Service in general was extraordinary, from wait staff to cleaning staff to butlers. Ports were interesting. Entertainment was poor in general. The cruise director, "Julie," I think, was friendly, but awful. Once she announced that she had nothing planned and ship's personnel saved her life by doing a show. Another time she announced the entertainment only cost a few hundred dollars. A local show was awful. A passenger talent show was low end--and not good. The comedian/magician was very good. The female singer was very good with a dated repertoire. The orchestra's repertoire was also dated. Before shows the orchestra played for dancing. Two couples, both with probably an average of 1000 dance lessons, were the only people dancing. Everyone else was intimidated. I know because I tried to get people to get up and dance. Where was Julie? Why didn't she ask people to dance, turn them over to spouses and get more people on the floor? She made TV announcements and appeared to have no clue what she was talking about. The list of daily activities is deceiving since virtually no one showed up for anything--beside bridge. Even bridge was disappointing because a normal session is 3 1/2 hours. These sessions were two hours, though there was more than enough time to extend them, and only on afternoons at sea, never on port days and never in the evenings. Clearly, Julie knows nothing about bridge. That said, the bridge director was very good. Mah jongg at 11 a.m.? Not a single soul showed up, which I know because I was in the game room playing with friends at 10:30. Julie never even stopped in. There were sets, but no cards, indicating that Julie hadn't taken the time to find out about the game. Bingo? We were lucky to get the minimum of 12 players. Ping pong, etc.? Virtually no one showed up. There were many days at sea and without bridge we would have been bored. I did not go to hear the speaker, who spoke on topics unrelated to the cruise, but was reportedly good. We had no health issues, but those that did were ripped off by the doctor--$185 to wash off a skinned knee and apply a band aid plus another $185 for the same the next day. A woman had a stomach ache, was given 5 kinds of pills and charged $2000. A woman felt ill during the G.I. epidemic after we left the ship--and was charged. We were advised in advance that Oceania's tours were 2 to 3 times the cost of privately arranged tours, and mostly arranged our own, all of which we enjoyed. The three we took with Oceania were terrible. The Cochin guide couldn't really be a licensed guide. She had nothing to say and half the trip was riding to and from a boat to cruise and watch people bathe, wash pots and do laundry. The Phuket Thailand trip was a disgrace. We took this because we were supposed to ride elephants. We weren't told until on board that we could not ride and it was too late to make other plans. Instead we got ox cart rides. Yes, climb up, ride a block, see nothing, do nothing, turn around, ride a block, get off. This day was a waste. The Singapore tour could have been so much and yet was so little. And yet, we were able to find excellent guides on our own with no knowledge of the areas whatsoever. One thing that struck me was that, in contrast to a Regent cruise we took, there was constant conversation about money. People felt nickeled and dimed because alcohol was not included (drinks were costly), and tours were not included (and were costly). I don't know if we would return. We might if there were more bridge to keep us occupied and a very appealing itinerary. Read Less

We were very disappointed in the Concierge veranda room on the Nautica. After a prior cruise on the Marina, we expected a quality experience. It was a very small room, little closet space, a very small bathroom ( difficult to use) and the concierge feature was useless (just early boarding). Food service was very good and staff were pleasant (with the exception of Excursion desk staff). It was a tired ship and most of our shipmates also were disappointed with the experience. This was not a premium ship by any measure. I became ill on the 16th day of the cruise and had to leave the ship by tug for a hospital in Kochi, India. the medical staff on the Nautica just dumped us with no support and has never gotten back to us on our welfare. The Marina was a premium ship, the Nautica was a third tier ship and we would not use Oceania in the future given our experience. Staff seemed apologetic for the condition of rooms. The concierge status was a fraud - no benefits. Unlike the Marina, with a laundry on each level, there was one laundry for the entire ship. The charges by the ship doctor were outrageous. Just for medicine for a sinus infection - over $350. I did have a cardiac event that required hospitalization for several days. Oceania just dumped us in Kochi. fortunately we were able to handle things ourselves. The Nautica was recently rehabbed, but the rooms were out od date and old. Read Less
