I rarely take the time to write reviews, but I think that cruises are something that a lot of people depend on reviews to help them in their choice. I am the same way, and I should have paid closer attention I guess. We sailed very recently on at the end of August 2019. So to start off, Carnival Valor is an older ship built in 2004 I believe, and it does show outside and inside of the cruise liner. On the outside appearance there is quite a bit of rust showing on the hull and a lot of over painting of rust areas. The deck areas seem in decent shape, and they work hard to keep the surfaces clean. The inside stateroom, we had a balcony stateroom, there are several issues. There are light switches missing, or pushed into the receptacles, lights not working, lights blinking, receptacles not working, and very few of them, stains on carpet, and I think every glass on the outside of ship had not been cleaned in quite some time. The main attraction decks, 3,4, and 5 were actually pretty nice, but there was always elevators out of service, so wait times were sometimes up to 10 minutes, so be prepared for stair usage. The dining areas just seemed dated, almost a 1950's maybe 60's look to them, and just did not give you that wow feeling around the buffet areas, but the main dining room, Lincoln, was in nice shape, and had a comfortable feeling to it. There is a lot of 4 person booths, so do not expect to be sitting with a large group of people, and meeting over dinner. I am going to do my best and be nice about the food, cause hey, that's why we do cruises right. Well, to be honest the main dining food was just, NOT GOOD! Appetizers, yeah very, very small portions, you will need to order more than 1, like the shrimp cocktail comes with 5 very small shrimp, fried calamari you will get 3 as well.. The main courses, are always a treat, if they are tasty, but sadly not so. The taste of most items were bland, or just not worth eating, and most of the time we left over half of it on the plate, and left the dining hall before dessert. The salads were OK, but it seemed they used store bought type dressings, and sometimes they would have a smell as if they had been left out too long, my wife even felt a little sick after eating a Cesar salad one evening. We tried the buffet a few times because of our dining hall experiences, and it was worse off that the main dining. I cannot recommend eating the buffet unless it's for the breakfast which was actually good. We basically survived for 5 days by eating Guy's Burger shack ( Delicious by the way ), and the pizza shack. I know it's sad, but actually enjoyed the room service sandwiches more than the main dinning. We will move into the entertainment portion, and i only have a few words on it. The shows we watched were enjoyable, fun, and well entertaining, so I can't knock them on that. I think the entertainment is what saved the trip overall. The services by the employees were top notch as expected, and our stateroom was always taken care of by our room steward Putrauwn. He provided excellent service, and knew our names every time we met in the hall. Ports and Shore excursions. Whew, were to start.. Cozumel, beautiful water, nice people, and very enjoyable. We went on the Passion Isles excursion, but I cannot recommend this experience for the price point. There is boat ride to the isle, and that will use up 45 minutes of your time if your lucky, then a couple meetings later, a hour and a half has gone my of your time, and your finally able to go get a place on the beach. This is an all inclusive excursion, well somewhat.. The free drinks are out of coolers that are just awful, if you want any frozen drink, it's 8 bucks a pop, want some goggles for a little snorkeling in the small swimming are, 10 bucks. Oh, don't forget about the 4 photo ops you must make before you get your seats, they come round for 12 bucks a photo. Then you get the massage ladies that will what feels like hound you , us 7 times, for a 30 minute massage for 50 bucks. I cannot say to eat the buffet food, birds everywhere and flies. We saw a bird dive right into one of the buffet trays, and take food, and nothing was done. The food was also not very good for what we tried. There is a nice little shopping area the locals have setup on the isle for some souvenirs, but if you get close, they come at you like street vendors. So, we made it through a couple hours of beach time, and now we have to make the 45 minute ride back to the port area. Yes, that is deducted from your 5 hours total time for the excursion. Lets move on, to Progresso!! Progresso, very nice people, and you can get your start right off the bat. We did another excursion, The all inclusive beach, and it's all inclusive... There is a 30 minute bus ride to the location, which is deducted from total time but hey the pier is 6 miles long as well, so at least no walking. You get to the beach house, with 2 pools, 2 bars, lots of space and fantastic food. You do not need to walk to any bar, the workers take such good care of you, and oh yeah, all your frozen drinks are free as well.I forgot to mention, it's a FULL OPEN BAR, not just some lousy whiskey or no name drinks... You can go here without a single dime in your pocket, cause you don't need it, unless you want to tip or get a massage, 30 bucks 30 minutes, which we were never asked to get. I will definitely go back to this location. I really wish I could rate this higher, but due to the extra cost of everything, and the Poor, Poor food quality, and the state of the staterooms, I just can't. Read Less

So to first begin our room was not set up like we asked for. There was no menu for room service or pen to write down breakfast room service. No complementary water in our rooms either. The staff are not nearly as talkative or friendly as they were on the Victory! Internet did not work on my husbands phone that we paid for. The fun shops should be renamed dud shops. They had nothing no shot glasses or cool keepsakes, nor cool toys for kids. The children’s activities are done later in the evening during most kids nap times. The food was extremely bland my two year old loves pizza but hated the pizza on the ship. The cruise director Kevin was annoying he tried way to hard to be friendly and liked that it was annoying to hear him. There was no music ever on the lido deck no one was dancing. The play area for kids is completely unsafe and none of the toys were bolted down! Not the ship for me! If you go carnival stick with the ship you love! Read Less

The cruise was affordable for our party of ten especially we booked at the last minute. My party and I went on a 4 day cruise to Cozumel Mexico on the Carnival Valor; this is my third time cruising with Carnival cruise line and first time on the Valor. Other than the Cruise Director, Kevin, my family and I didn't have a good time and I didn't like the ship. The Valor seemed small, congested and cluttered and it could use some updates especially in the sports area, which was small and dated; also, they could use some new loungers because a lot were stained and need to be replaced. My party included kids, teens and young adults, and I found that there wasn't a lot of activities for the teens and kids. The pool area was crowded the majority of the time as well as the sports area, and the sports area closed at 5 pm everyday, "which didn't make much sense to me," so my kids really didn't do much. Some of the food was okay, especially the burgers from Guy's that was a hit for those that like burgers, but the other selection of food could have been better. The cabins were a decent size and considering that there was so many people on the ship the washrooms throughout the ship were kept clean so that was a positive. My only complaint with the cabin is one wasn't ready when we arrived. There were dirty linen left in the room and they didn't have the beds set up for the four individuals staying in the room. The bars stayed busy throughout the day, and a lot of time we had to wait a long time to be served. I wasn't crazy about the entertainment: the comedian we saw our first night there was not funny so we ended up leaving, I didn't enjoy the singers they didn't make it exciting and everything else just seemed boring. We planned for this trip for two months, but everyone was disappointment on the cruise and couldn't wait to go home. Read Less

I am a cruise person having been on 8 cruises and 5 of those on Carnival Ships. The spa people were standing on the deck offering you a chance for a discount. Having never had a facial I pulled a card and received $50.00 off. I had a facial done which was 165.00 less $50.00 which is $115.00. I SIGNED a receipt for $115.00 however after I get home I see I was charged $135.75. When I contacted Carnival I was told that the Spa Service was contracted. When I call them I was told it was an automatic 20% tip. Issue 1: that is not on the receipt I Signed. Issue 2: read the contract you agree to Spa Service is not listed in automatic gratuity. Issue 3: Told nothing could be done after I get off I should have addressed it on ship, i started the first business day after I got off trying to get any information and it took me 3 days to have someone call me back. Therefore, DO NOT DO A SPA SERVICE! And CARNIVAL what have you done...this is next to the worst cruise I have been on...too may issues to address but this is number 1...this was a Anniversary cruise and I was shocked with Carnival now I am mad!!!! The dining area staff were good we prefer the sit down breakfast and dinner at 6. The room staff need some repair cleaning lessons but did appear in the room daily. Things needed where pointed out but not addressed i.e. the bed light had no knob to turn it on you had to stick your finger in the knob hole to turn it on. The shows were okay. The comedy was good, I love bingo but the caller preferred to talk to much and not just call the numbers. They have a new set up where you do everything on the ship after you get on i.e. the credit card on file so the first 2 days the customer support area was big lines! Read Less

It was ok at best. Mexico felt safe. Food got old really quick and so did the entertainment. Stay away from the non paying casino. Best part of the trip was getting home. Stay on the boat when it docks and you might get a chance to use the pool and hot tub. When in progresso do NOT book the Mi Casa Es Su Casa excursion or you will hate yourself. Tried to review on Carnival but they only take good reviews. Bad food, bad drinks, flies, dirty. Adam our guide was ok I guess and the buss was clean. The AC in our room 7329 worked sometimes. We lucked up and got a fan from our room attendant. The bubbles package was hot can drinks poured over ice . Each drink they had to swipe your card and print a ticket and you had to sign for it. The coffee was like tar it was so strong. Pizza had little to no meat on it. Guys burgers was about the best food on boat and it wasn’t great either. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to sail from New Orleans and we wanted to cruise during our anniversary. We know Carnival has a reputation for loud partiers, but we thought getting a balcony cabin would help us avoid some of that. In a nutshell, we wouldn’t chose this cruise if we had the choice to make again. The Valor was old. We knew that and didn’t mind as long as the ship was clean and in working order. For the most part, that was the case. The ship decor was a bit outdated. Again, not really a deal breaker. Our cabin was a balcony cabin on the 9th deck-lido. We liked the convenience of being there and it really wasn’t too loud. Most things were in working order, although one lamp by the sofa never worked the entire duration (and we notified the steward of this the first day). We liked the size of the room. Decent for two people. The balcony was wet most of our stay because of condensation leaking/dripping from above, so that was a bummer. The steward was nice, prompt, and accommodating (I requested extra hangers). The food in the steakhouse was good. We paid $38 extra per person to be able to get decent steak. The first night you get a free bottle of wine if you go to the steakhouse; I knew this from reading reviews, but the wine steward didn’t tell us this. I had to ask, and then he acted perturbed and said yes. This was really the kind of service we received from most waiters and bartenders the entire time. Irritated, perturbed, put out that they had to serve you. There was definitely an undercurrent of dislike/disdain from most of them. We are polite people and we tip extra, so this behavior from them was unwarranted. We even had some bartenders intentionally/blatantly skip over us and ignore us, for no reason. This makes a vacation really no fun at all. Exceptions:Alchemy bar. The bartenders there are nice, knowledgeable and efficient. But, you have to like strong, expensive mixed drinks to go there. The main dining room (ours was Lincoln) was sub par. Service was VERY slow, even though they scurried around like they were very busy; they didn’t appear to be organized or efficient. I wondered if the waiters were just pretending to be busy? The last night we dined there we didn’t get our drinks until we were almost finished with the meal and we only got them because I asked a busser from a nearby section about them. She took pity on us and stepped up to serve our table. I really don’t understand why we had to be treated so rudely (ignored) on the actual day of our anniversary. I made a point to go to my room, get cash, and place it directly into Cindy Lui’s hand to thank her for giving us our drinks and taking our dessert orders, when the others wouldn’t. I vowed then that I’d NEVER go back on that ship. The main dining food was bland and really not very good. We found better options in the buffet on Lido (you have to try several entrees there to identify what is actually good, but there are some good options, and the buffet salad is very fresh and delicious). I hate to say this: The boat stank pretty often. Musty smells around the main Lido pool area (it isn’t well ventilated) and often times at various places on the boat, a strong stench of sewage would greet you. Not my idea of a fun ship. Don’t even get me started on disembarking. Just prepare yourself to wait three hours shoulder to shoulder with herds of people and their luggage (dragging down flights of stairs). Bit of advice: just go sit in the buffet area and wait until the very end and hopefully you can just walk off the boat without the crowds of 3700 people. I’m giving the cruise two stars because despite the overcrowded nature, the rude staff, the old ship, and the smell, we still managed to enjoy our time. The shows we went to were really good, the comedy acts were funny, and we liked the Serenity deck. The ports and excursions we went on were enjoyable. That said, I’ve never been happier to be off of a cruise boat in my entire life!! No more Carnival for us! Read Less

Took the 5 day cruise on the Valor with my brothers and their wives. We have been on many other ships and this was the first that was rusted, very limited live entertainment, deserts were only cake and ice cream only and steak and lobsters were $20 extra.(we have always had free lobster 1 night on other ships). The carpeting in the "suite" was very stained and I had to have them fix the balcony door so it would close properly. Shopping area was basically 2 stores and very high prices. (We were given $50 gift certificates to the store and spa and they would not pay 50% of the cheapest item which was a $125 message. There were some $10 items sold in the hallway kiosks that looked pretty nice. I was not given my promised $50/person onboard credits even though it is printed on the ticket and the free drink card I won at the casino was almost worthless as it took an average of 30 minutes for the ONE waiter to get to the table or machines and the card would not work at a bar. Slot payouts were extremely low with 5 ea 7's only paying $80 on a $1 machine. The only bright spot was the service, in that our stateroom attendant and dining room waiter (Nilson) were very good. We didn't take the excursions this time but Progresso is a new village inside a shipping port with about 20 vendors that were branches of the ones in Cozumel. We did not have children but there were a lot of them on the ship even during school days. Although we are regular cruise veterans, we would not consider the Valor. Read Less

Pros: Pizza bar Rock show Medical personnel Fresh fruit Omelet station Clean room Cabin steward Members in our party purchased the drink package and it did not start until day two of the cruise. That was one of a number of issues that seemed stingy and cut rate. Needless to say, I will not be taking another Carnival cruise. However, the cruise arranged excursion to passion island was very nice. Other than the seaweed, which is an act of nature and out of the control of the cruise line, the beach was perfect. We had an issue with the cleanliness of both rooms. The balcony had vomit from the previous guest. We had underwear from a previous guest left in the bathroom. My sister brought her own personal towels & hung them on the rack. Per their rules if they are left on the rack they won’t take them. Well they took her personal towels and the Manager did not mention replacing them. The Bartenders at the Red Frog Bar on the Lido deck were rude and the drinks they made tasted horrible. I even observed them making fun of guest. The waitstaff in the Lincoln Dining Room were so slow and forgetful that we stopped eating breakfast their. This wasn’t my 1st cruise but it was some of my family members 1st cruise. We had 3 cabins and were celebrating 3 Birthdays. I will never cruise on the Valor again and I’m skeptical about another Carnival Cruise at this point. Read Less

This is our third cruise in 10 years. Each time has been a downgrade from the time before. It seems the price has gone up including gratuity on everything, but the experience is not worth the 3k we spent for 4 days. I was expecting to have mediocre food, I was expecting cheesy out dated entertainment, I knew there were going to be a ton of women dripping wet with their bikinis on in the dining room even when the sign says you need to have clothes on, I was even expecting to hear the same music as we heard on our first trip 10 years ago. My expectations were on point there. What I wasnt expecting was it be a free for all, do whatever you want any where ever you feel. Yes, it's a vacation and you're supposed to let loose but I think carnival needs to step up security and lay down some obvious rules. I can't tell you how many people had their own radios blaring- as if there's not music piping in every speaker already. Yes, even on the "serenity" deck I couldn't get away from someone's Cardi B on loop on their phone. Everytime I stepped on our balcony I could smell someone smoking pot, and several times on the smoking decks. The gym, casino and pub had kids running around in it. The nice dining area- I'm not talking lido buffet- had half dressed people walking around like they own the place. I even saw a guy walking around with a bottle of Chivas bouncing up and down drinking it from the bottle like he was on the street. I do believe in having a good time and getting a little wild on the lido, or perhaps the casino or dance club, but you gotta know how to tone it down some. It was really embarrassing. One more thing that had nothing to do with the guests. The lido pool area is more or less where the party happens so they are mainly full of adults. I couldn't let my kids swim in those pools because everyone was plastered. I'm cool with that, but there wasnt a place designated for kids to swim yet, I believe there was a hot tub on the serenity deck, and the pool in the back is adult only also. Perhaps the pool next to the slide should be kids only, just to allow them one spot to swim with out getting drinks splashed on on their heads. On a positive note, our room steward was awesome as usual, the staff in the fun shops and camp ocean were friendly, the cruise director and his lady assistants were peppy and entertaining. My favorite part of the trip was our time in Cozumel, but we weren't anywhere near a single cruiser the entire time. We went off on our own and did our own thing. I think the next time we're getting a craving for Mexico, we're are just going to fly there. I'm sure it will save us a few grand and we won't be around the ghettoness. Read Less

We had several issues while on this cruise. We sailed with several other family members so we had a total of 15 people traveling with us. All of us purchased the Faster to the Fun package and scheduled early check ins. The process through the check in lanes was very rushed ( I understand the reason for this ) but once we were on board they looked at our tickets and said our rooms would not be ready until the afternoon. We tried to explain to staff that we had paid so that our rooms would be ready when we boarded, they did not want to listen. so we went to the Lido deck with all of our luggage ( we didn't check any because our rooms were suppose to be ready). We finally decided to just go and find our rooms, they let us put our luggage in but it was not ready to occupy. That should have been the first clue. Through the online site I ordered small gifts to be sent to each room, of the others in our party, with a personal greeting. The gifts were delivered but the greetings were so inconspicuous that nobody realized who they were from or that something special for them. In my room I found a letter stating that some of the gifts were no longer available and that I could go to the gift shop and get a refund for less then what I had paid for the items. I had to wait 2 days before I was finally able to find the right person who was able to correct this error. The online ship info advertises a breakfast with Dr. Seuss, but unlike other activities there was not way to book in advance. I figured that this would be a daily activity. Nope, was I wrong. I tried to ask staff about the breakfast but nobody gave any specifics, until the 3rd day on board. Then we were told that the breakfast only occurs on the last cruise day and that it was already completely booked. The online info also advertises Build a Bear Workshops, but they do not say that it is a one time activity done on the last cruise day. When we finally got settled into our room we went looking for a Build a Bear store that did not exist, the kids were very disappointed. The info on the Progreso stop should be more accurate and let people know how dirty the town is, how unsafe it feels and that the locals will not leave you alone for 5 minutes before asking for money. Don't go to Progreso, ride the bus or taxi to the next town or take an excursion. Carnival should say this is an excursion only stop. There were other issues such as poor food quality and timing issues, but those were just so over shadowed by these other things. This was our first Carnival cruise and the first cruise for our family of 5 (others in our group had cruised before). I can say with all certainty that I will never sail on another Carnival ship again, I felt very much like a piece of livestock. People pay good, hard earned money for these vacations, I expected to be wowed. The sad thing is that Carnival knows that for every disappointed customer there are hundreds of others who don't care and accept what they get. There were also a few staff members who really went the extra mile and that's sad too because there were so many others who didn't. Read Less

This was our first Carnival cruise and will probably be our last....not quite our cup of tea. This was our 12th cruise in total....almost all on Princess. We were on this cruise because our son got married on the ship while still in port at Galveston. That was the best part. From there...not so great. Since we were a wedding party, we got to be the first on board. After all the wedding events, we went to our cabin which was OK. Inside, aft on 7th deck. We've had inside cabins before and this was a typical cabin. Only big difference was the shower is bigger than Princess and I think less closet space than princess...otherwise pretty much same. Our room steward didn't make his presence known until about 7:30 that night. And only to ask us if we wanted room clean in morning or evening....what? Only once a day????? On princess, they are continuously cleaning and restocking our room several times a day and at night turn down service with chocolate on the pillow....here you are lucky if you get clean towels each day. No ice in frig...nothing. We had to call "Jose" several times because tv remote was not working AT ALL. He finally replaced it after 2nd day. At Muster drill we were hustled outside deck 4 in the sauna known as galveston (95+ with 100% humidity) where we had to stand cheek to cheek for 15 minutes before they began safety drill. At least we didn't have to lug the life-vest with us. I had to take a shower before dressing for dinner. We had our luggage quickly, probably because we boarded so early. We were seated with our new family members at 3 large tables. Our waitstaff were outstanding and quite willing to bring us anything we asked for. Due to us celebrating our son's wedding, my husband and I had gone to Scarlett's Steakhouse for early dinner which was sooooo fantastic. Glad we ate there, but did go to our assigned late dining just to be with the family. From what we saw of the others food, glad we ate earlier. By the time dinner was over, we were exhausted and went straight to bed.....well, that was the plan. About midnight we were awaken with VERY loud talking in the halls. We kept thinking....they will go on their way....NOPE....this went on til 2 am, when I pulled out the old trusty ear plugs....turned TV to picture of front of ship with music. Turned the volume so I could no longer hear them, then finally went to sleep. Nest morning about 9 we were awaken with VERY loud conversation in the room next to ours (I think different people). We decided to get up and go eat breakfast. Since we were new to Carnival, we went to buffet.....MISTAKE...it was so packed, you could not find a seat, and lines were so long. No thank you. I grabbed some coffee and told my DH, lets try dinning room. They had Sea day brunch til 11 am. What a difference...quiet, not many people in there. Got a fantastic table for 2 and had a very pleasant breakfast. Food was excellent. Whey do they all cram into the buffet????? After looking at the activities, which were nil and none, we decided to explore the ship a bit. Then went to our not cleaned room. Fell asleep and awoke about 12:30 and decided to check out Guys Burgers....they are fantastic...highly recommend them. Great fries too. Took food back to our room, because yet again....no place to sit. Took another nap and walked around a bit. Went to our late dinner. It was good. Liked trying foods I'd never had before. There was a show in Ivanho "American Rock" which we enjoyed. Hardly anyone was there...not what we are use to. Again, around midnight, the ruckus began. Out came ear plugs, TV and got pretty good rest til 4 am when neighbors started up again......ugh. Next day was Cozumel. We were back on board by 1. Went to lido and got Guys burgers again. Buffet didn't look that good to us. Went back to room and crashed til dinner. Ate and went to bed with earplugs and TV on. Again, around 2 am Ruckus and neighbors....UGH! Walls must have no sound proofing. This happened last night of cruise also, at 2 am and 4 am. Don't these people sleep??? Last sea day they didn't tell us anything about disembarkation til after 10:30 am where you had to go search the ship for the small display of luggage tags and watch the TV later on in the day which gave you vague directions on what to do with luggage and tags and when we would disembark...basically, put your checked luggage out before you go to bed. Be out of cabin at 8:30 am and go anywhere BUT 3rd deck and wait to be called...huh???? Apparently most Carnival cruisers carry their own luggage off, few check theirs off. We managed to be on our way to the car by 10:30 am...surprisingly. We are looking at Royal Caribbean for our next adventure. Read Less

This was our first cruise... and it will almost definitely be our last! I felt like part of a herd of cattle, being ran here and there. It was hot and miserable for the embarkation and debarkation and meetings. There wasn't enough entertainment on board to keep you busy in between excursions. The beds were rock hard and kept separating. The pools were so tiny and crowded. The crew was not all that helpful and there was definitely a language barrier. How can they help if they don't understand what you need? Our steward kept forgetting things in our room. They need more information when you're booking to help you choose a room, activities, etc. and a more detailed map on how to get where you need to be. Some floors don't go all the way though. It was very disconcerting. I was very disappointed. I was so looking forward to our very first cruise and this one ruined it for me. Also, the excursion crew flat out lied to me to get me to purchase an excursion. I was pissed! Read Less

We might have seen him in the hallway 3 times total. They confiscated our fan at embarkation and didn't even tell us. The room attendant said he would check on it the first night but never did. According to carnivals policy a fan is allowed in your state room if used with caution. We asked the cruise director about it so he introduced to a supervisor of the hotel. He said fans are not allowed, so i showed him carnivals website where it says they are allowed . He acted like it wasn't carnivals site so I had to prove it to him. Finally he said he would check with security and get us one brought to the room that belonged to carnival while he found out why it was taken from us before boarding. Well of course the fan never showed up and of course he never got back with us. On the last morning I went to guest service to pick up my fan and asked (guest service member) for his name and she wouldn't give it me. She said she would take a statement but wouldn't give me his name. The seafood counter in back closed early, sometimes they would stand in the back and tell you it was open but wouldn't ever come to the front to take your order. The basketball court closed every day at 5pm and that was what he does most. Other Carnival ships basketball was available untill 1130p. The buffet was the same thrown together food from the day before. We ate guys burgers mostly but it closed early also. They didn't have the Las Vegas the shows every night. One night they just sat on bar stools and sang country songs. One female security guard that was on the check in gang way after the port stop was very rude to my 13 year old daughter. Then the lie they tell you that if you carry your own bags off the boat is faster was so far off. It took 3 hours for them to call our floor. They called 5 floors of guest that checked their luggage off before us. They wont let you stay in the room so it looked like a homeless bridge under pass with 3000 guest sitting in closed bars , hallways , in the casino with all their luggage. Read Less

The ship is american hero theme in decor but there are non american references to the idea of valor as well. I don't know where Scarlett Ohara fits in valor. The exterior public exteriors are art deco a throwback to classical cruise ships. There are movies every night on Lido deck. Bingo is ridiculous $5,$20,$30 per game. You can drop almost $100 per session and there are 2 a day. I stayed away from the casino on deck 5. There are a multitude of raffles held to get you to buy things but very few winners. Spa was free to sauna and steam and a quiet cool place to read. The "discount spa services" are a setup for a timeshare presentation of high dollar beauty treatments. Playbill revue shows were entertaining as were comedians. There are children everywhere crying in the room next door, at the pools, in the dining room and at adult venues after 10pm having meltdowns even though they offer after hours childrens programs. The best food is in the dining room. I had your time dining; so I could eat at different times. I find eating early avoids the loud rowdy drinkers. Avoid the pizza at all cost the only time I felt ill was after the pizza. The burgers and tacos are good but only available 12pm to 6pm. Read Less

Let me start by saying I have done 4 Carnival cruises and never had a bad experience until now; our last Carnival was 3 years ago. Cabin- we had Deck 7 interior, mirror on wall was smashed needed repair. Toilets did not flush frequently. Bed was comfortable and room steward good. Lido Deck Buffet- SOS daily, never a change. Steak House, served my husband a New York Strip with a bunch of grizzle, bad! Dining room- nice but slow Guys Burger- high point and best food boat. Embark and Debark easy and fast Casino- although I won, I was betting over $8 a spin and return on many machines was zero. Gym- adequate for a trip Shows- great! Karaoke- if you like Rap for karaoke, be my guest. Also lady running show clearly put people she liked up a number of times while others could not sing. Winston’s-best find, a little too late, we found this on our last night. Guests- about as rude as I have ever been around. Now understand wanting to bring your kids, but if you have never taught them manners, leave them home! Adults- it’s called a buffet, but folks were piling like 20 pieces of bacon to the point the cooks are rationing it, it was gluttony. I met a few foreigners and it was embarrassing we as Americans can act to rude and disrespectful. I don’t want to sound like a big gripe sessions, but I wanted people to be aware that although Carnival is clearly not the top cruise line or most expensive, it can clean up its act when mirrors and windows are smashed, and they run out of coffee in the latte bar on day 3! It’s a mess! Read Less

Party of 8 in 3 cabins... 1) Poor room Steward...rooms were to be cleaned every AM-Morning but it was never done as requested. 2) Food was just warm and we had long lines in the dining areas...and then finding a cleaned table was a task as well. 3) Keep close tabs on your Sail & Sign card charges while on the ship: 4) We had unauthorized charges to our Sail and Sign card for Gratuities we never authorized in the amount of $64.75 for each one of us. 5) All charges while on the cruise were held on our debit card...and then all the previous holds were added together and debited again! Before all the pending are released...double charging our card twice. Carnival response was "Sorry, that's just the way its done", if the pending charges don't drop off after 5 days call us and we'll Fax a letter to your bank to release those funds. In the meantime my account is overdrawn due to Carnivals bookkeeping methods. Cruised with Carnival, Norwegian, Princess previously and were excited about cruising with Carnival again. So disappointed in Carnival can't give them anything but a Poor on everything because I can't believe it could be a Average within the industry. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the price and booked a suite. The cabin in and of itself was fine. Not impressed by the food or stateroom service. They only service the rooms once a day. (Royal does 2 times daily) and they only serviced it 3 out of 5 nights. The only good food was the Guy's burger place, but they closed at 6. Not many options after 6. Lido buffet did not appeal to me and the dining room was fair. Regarding the clientele on the ship: I felt like I spent 5 days in Walmart. Drunk people screaming on their balconies as we were waiting for late people in preparation to leave Cozumel. There were way too many children on board. We usually choose cruises during the school year to avoid kids, but that strategy didn't work this time. We are diamond plus with RCCL and will stick to cruising with them. Read Less

This is my 3 or 4th cruise with Carnival and I had enjoyed everyone except the Valor. The first day boarding party was a completely lousy. Yes it was the rainy season and yes it sprinkled what that means to me is the Cruise Director should have been more innovative to motivate the cruisers. The DJ packed up and left because of a few sprinkles. Obviously there was no contingency plan. The food was okay however, the late night options were a pizza or a sandwich. The entertainment was poor. This cruise didn't offer any variety. The entertainment persons sat there and sang. It was a Rock theme ALL 5 NIGHTS. The same songs. I'm not into rock but I enjoy good entertainment. I have never seen rock so quiet. Most of the songs no one was familiar with and the personnel sat through most of the songs. The ship like all others is beautiful. Had a Balcony Suite, it was nice however the Housekeeper broke the door so it wouldn't open. One day we went without being able to go out on the balcony. The room service was excellent. We left a hefty tip. Unless they make some serious changes to the Valor I won't sail on it again. I will however sail with Carnival again. Read Less

I found the ship to be dirty and the staff to be very rude. I found it was very boring with not many activities to do. The thing that really got me is that my daughter ship and sail card was charged 113.00 for some old lady perfume in the ship store... My daughter is 13 and had no signing rights... So how did someone buy that just using her number? When I told carnival about it they said they couldn't do anything till the 5 day hold came of my credit card???? Are you kidding me??? They also promised to call me the next day to give me an update... They never called!!!! I will never cruise on carnival again due to poor customer service. I am a 8 time cruiser very sad Read Less

We just got back from our cruise (Galveston-Cozumel-Progresso) and it was a bit disappointing. Being a first-time cruiser, I really didn't know what to expect from our cruise but I truly WANTED to like it. It was our honeymoon, a gift given to my husband and I by my generous in-laws. Everyone we talked to beforehand seemed to gush the "you'll love it" refrain, so we had no reason to assume otherwise. In truth, our experience was a mixed bag. Disclaimer: There's a good chance that perhaps I am not a "cruise person" and there are those who may love what I hated about the trip. Read on and decide for yourself: First, the things we didn't like: -We had no cell phone service for the duration of the trip and could not call family. We were totally isolated and trapped on the ship with no connection to the outside world -Dirty stateroom. I found a toenail in my room, plus the walls were dirty. I wiped them down when we got there. The walls may sound like a silly thing, but they rooms are so small it's easy to spend plenty of time touching them. lol -I found 2 hairs in my food in the buffet line -Our room temp okay, but people we sat with at dinner complained of the thermostats in their rooms not working. Another couple had their luggage lost for several days. -Terrible television... half the channels are just Carnival infomercials -Announcements come over the intercom telling you where and when to do things (like see a show) -Everything felt disjointed, for example, renaissance-style auditorium playing salsa music -Generally BAD MUSIC everywhere on the ship... even on our excursion they played a really idiotic and raunchy Bruno Mars CD on repeat, which we weren't sure they were doing because they legitimately liked Bruno Mars or because they assumed that we as American tourists would... but no one seemed to be into it. -The art was incredibly kitschy and tasteless -The ship was EXTREMELY overcrowded. There were 3,600 passengers and 1,200 crew members. It was like being stuck in a Vegas casino for 5 straight days with no escape. -Did I mention that you cannot escape at all? If you want to escape from your "escape", you can't. You can't spontaneously choose to take a detour or just do your own thing, because you've signed over your autonomy to the will of the ship and the corporation sailing it... I digress -Prohibitively expensive drinks -A general atmosphere that encourages overindulgence, mindlessness, and consumerism -Diamonds -Watches -Junk -Sub-par "comedy" and corny shows with little entertainment value -Almost the entire crew was composed of people from other countries, and there was a strange dynamic of us (Americans) literally leaving our trash everywhere for these crew members (who were all working incredibly hard, by the way) to pick up after us. -Alcohol, gambling, and shopping is the focus... everyone is constantly pandering to sell you stuff you don't need -Exorbitant and wasteful -Cliche, gaudy -NO CREATIVE SPACES, ONLY CONSUMER SPACES -Many rude people. I complimented one person's shoes and her response was a (very cold) "thanks... I had to wear these because I couldn't wear my other ones, the heels with rhinestones." (like seriously, who says that? LOL) -There were a bunch of kids running around unsupervised dropping ice cream cones in elevators -I also overheard people saying things like "OMG! I got a 32 carat amethyst ring for $40! Lifetime warranty, AND I can UPGRADE!!!!!" -Horrible customer service: On day 4, after being out of contact with my family for several days, I went down to ask someone in guest services if there was I way I could make a phone call. He simply told me, "sure, just dial 36+1", not mentioning the $2/min service charge (which WAS listed in small print in one of the brochures they gave us but was NOT posted by the phone or within the phone system), so we had a $150 charge for phone calls. It was my fault for not reading the information in the barrage of trash brochures they put in our room every day, but their phone policy could (and should) have been much more transparent. When I went to complain about the predatory, opportunistic nature of this situation, the people in guest services were dismissive and unapologetic and refused to waive even a portion of the calls. Just a word of warning: assume Carnival is going to nickel and dime you for EVERYTHING THEY POSSIBLY CAN. -I thought that cruising would be much more serene than it was. There we were, in the middle of the incredible, sacred ocean, and everyone's watching The Lego Batman Movie while getting drunk in a pool. In a nutshell, the cruise ship experience itself felt like a bunch of materialistic garbage with very little cultural or intellectual value. Now for the good: -We really enjoyed the excursions in Mexico. They were efficient, interesting, and fun. -The food on the ship was, for the most part, awesome -The crew members work with incredibly efficiency to feed and clean up after 3,600 passengers. The whole thing is really a well-oiled machine... a marvel. -We really enjoyed talking with the people we were seated next to at dinner. We also met some very nice people on our excursions -I think that if we ever go on a cruise again, we will be sure to choose one that maximizes port time and minimizes the "days at sea" -There were some cool features to the ship, like the gym and the jogging track around the ship -We enjoyed the "serenity" area, which was actually somewhat serene -We slept well. I liked our interior room, where it was dark and the subtle rocking of the ship was sort of like being rocked to sleep. -The day we got off the ship, we felt like we were getting released from prison, so that was a nice feeling Suggestions for Carnival Cruise Line (possibilities that we think would make for more engaging activities than attending a "seminar" on how to look 10 years younger in 10 minutes): -Open art/music studio for creative people -Music/dance classes -Guided art lessons or sip-and-paint classes -Paint your own pottery studio -Meditation room -Ocean conservation room - something to educate people about the ecosystem they are sailing over -Some kind of activity or information session to connect culturally to the area that the ship is visiting - in our case, they could have people there to educate passengers about the culture of Mexico -Legit movie theater that does not add noise pollution to other parts of the ship -Archery range -Open mic -Jungian dream analyzer room -Interfaith spiritual center of some kind -Discussion forums on various topics Read Less

I'll start by saying we are elite status with Princess. We kept an open mind on this 5 day Carnival cruise. ROOM Balcony room was as expected. Bathroom small but shower larger than Princess. Never had to worry about water on the floor. Towel were nice but bed linens were very worn. The first night I discovered "stains" on the sheets. So gross, I slept on the couch. Steward changed sheets the next day. Our steward met our needs. Our friends had a suite on the same floor. Their room had not been cleaned throughly. Dirty glasses in the fridge & trash in the closet. SHIP Ship decor is hard to explain. Gaudy is the first thing that comes to mind. The decorators must have never heard that sometimes "less is more". DRESS Dress is extremely casual ! On "dress up night", my DH wore tux. We saw only 2 other men wearing them. We did see a few men in suits. Ladies were nicely dressed. DINING We had fixed late seating & sat with friends at a booth. Service was awful the first night but definitely improved on the 2nd night. Was shocked that we used the same silverware for all courses except dessert. No tablecloths were used. We did have cloth napkins. LOL We enjoyed the menu options and food was tasty. (Desserts not so much) During the latter part of service, the maitre 'd begins his talk which goes on & on. Then one of the crew begins singing (sometimes 2 long songs). Next, the assistant waiters jump up on the serving tables & "dance". Napkins are expected to twirl the whole time. Of course dinner service stops during this "entertainment". We saw numerous people leave during the production. Then the maitre'd talks again. We ate breakfast at the buffet once (that was enough), main dining & room service were fine. Options were very limited. Lunch option were plentiful. Burger bar had long lines but worth the wait. Deli sandwich bar was awful. Desserts had no flavor. Ice cream was a big hit. BAR SERVICE It does not exist. You go up to a bar & order. Drinks were good. Would have drank more but bar staff was always backed up. Guess there were a lot of people that didn't mind standing in line because there were a lot of "drunks" Embarkation & Disembarkation ---- Muster drill My advice is to go & leave at your convince. We let the crew take our luggage getting on & off. It didn't seem that any guidelines were followed Best thing I can say about muster drill is that you don't have to take your life jacket. Other than that, 3,000+ passengers & an unorganized crew makes for an hour of my life I can never get back. SHOWS Missed the first night because it conflicted with our dinner time. Two other night their were production show. Bring your ear plugs (loud). We were entertained but below substandard to ones we have seen on other ship. Choreography was the issue not the singers & dancers. Magician was really entertaining. SHORE EXCURSIONS. --- All on our own ---- we have been to these ports before Cozumel - $17 taxi ride for 4 people to Mr Sanchos Beach (free private beach) We did the pay as you go option. Also got the fish spa pedicures. It was a "muy bien". Progresso - we love this town. We went straight to the beach for massages. $15 for an hour. We leave the women a $10 tip. Then a nice lunch at one of the local places. A stop at the pharmacia (one block from the beach). Finally, a little shopping in the tourist area. Read Less

I have been on many many carnival cruises in fact i have been on 18 of them and on many of there ships, I was so disappointed with this ship first there was not an adult pool and there were so many kids that you could not even get in a pool and the hot tubs were all filled with kids even on the serenity deck the hot tubs were crammed with people. The deck chair were so dirty with stains and dirt they looked like they have never been cleaned. Also kids were dropping food all over the place out by the pool and it would stay there almost all day it was really gross. In the Lido dining room at nite most of the tables were not cleaned off and it was hard to find a clean table to sit at. In our cabin our fridge did not work and we asked 3 times if they could replace it and they never did. At the casino i was playing craps and i would win and the dealer would forget to pay me this happened 4 different times so be careful when playing the craps table. Also we could not understand our waiter in the dinning room his accent was so thick. The best part of this cruise were cozumel and progresso we really enjoyed these two places. I don't think I will cruise on the Valor again. Read Less

My wife and I chose this trip as a get away for the two of us. It fit our schedule and we had been on one carnival cruise before (Triumph after refurbishment) which we loved. 1. We made on to the ship easy (faster to the fun) we had a deluxe ocean view room (9201). It was rainy the day we got on and our windows were leaking and had left a puddle inside the room. Called down and was told it would be taken care of before the boat left Galveston. By the time we got off the boat to go home they were still leaking and we cleaned up the puddles as needed. Not to mention finding trash from what I guess was the previous tenets left in the closets and drawers. 2. The food was not up to par with what we had experienced before. We did enjoy our steakhouse visit. But in the dining rooms our food was warmish to cold most nights and my wife's meal (steak both times) came out wrong twice and our server told her to just eat what was there instead of waiting on the right meal. 3. My wife booked a spa treatment for 3:30 on port day in Progresso. Was called the night before to confirm the appointment. Then when she went to the spa was told that her appointment was at 4:30 and she would be squeezed in when they "got to her" because they had a meeting at 3:30. My wife showed that her appointment was for 3:30 and was then told to get over it by spa staff and if she didn't want to keep her appointment that she would still be charged. After talking to the spa manager and front desk staff we were not charged. We did do the behind the fun tour of the ship on the last sea day. seeing the signs to remind the staff of what to do there was one that stood out. It said "It takes a lifetime to earn a customer, but only a minute to lose one" Needless to say we will probably not travel with Carnival again. Read Less

We really liked our stateroom (a very dated but not worn, roomy 4J with window and large bathroom and easy access to the "secret deck"--we booked an inside GTY so this was a bonus), our stateroom attendant, Guy’s Burgers, the photo backgrounds and the Serenity Deck. The adults only pool was also good and not over run with children on the day the big pool was closed. We enjoyed the two family-friendly comedy shows and the finale production show. We also thought the towel animal theater was cute. Oh, and the towel animals around the pool deck was a fun touch. We also liked that the dining room staff would remember your name. My mom ordered a soda at a breakfast and the lady remembered her name two days later, that is impressive. Overall, we thought the ship was dark, dirty and in desperate need of dry dock but we’re spoiled to the two recently refurbed ships we sailed prior to Valor. We did like the art, big murals in the atrium, etc. It felt like the ship may have been understaffed. There were very few attendants in the buffet and very little visible cleaning crew. Several beverage stations were either closed or not fully working so lines for buffet drinks were long and the cart-served beverages were hard to come by. Cups and plates were left on tables and in random spots for long lengths of time before being cleared. Ice cream was spilled on stairs. Some public bathrooms were gross, out of soap and toilets didn’t flush well. The main dining room staff was slow and inattentive. We had one good night where things flowed smoothly and we didn’t have to wait 30 minutes between dinner and dessert…the rest of the nights were very, very slow. Thankfully, we had six amazing tablemates. It bothered me that there were no tablecloths on the tables except on cruise elegant night. The nightly show in the dining room was too much. It was monotonous and just made dinner last longer than needed. And the bartenders shouting/whooping it up/singing loudly to sell shots at dinner were just tacky! We thought the food quality overall was very poor. We grabbed breakfast at the buffet one morning and everything was cold (bacon, eggs, gravy, etc). Steak and eggs at Sea Day brunch arrived without steak, omelet was served with incorrect ingredients, huevos rancheros were ice cold. I have concerns about the temperatures at which they keep food. I opened the cabinet under the toppings bar at Guy’s and it was not cooled or heated and there was food stored in the cabinet to refill the bar. We had two great excursions: Salsa, Salsa and Margaritas in Cozumel and the Scenic Photography and Foodie Tour in Progreso, which took us to Merida. Overall, very high quality excursions. Would recommend both. Read Less
