Took a 5 day cruise out of Galveston on carnival valor. Everything was great! We had two balcony rooms that were really good. Enjoyed every minute, ready to take another cruise. The cruise had great energy, the ship was very clean. Our room steward was awesome! We ate at the steak house the first night and received a free bottle of wine. Carnival is a fun ship there are plenty of things to do on the boat. This was a family friendly cruise. Overall we had a ton of fun and I highly recommend this cruise. The food was good, the service was great. The casino and bingo were a ton of fun There were friendly people on board. The staff works really hard to make sure you are enjoying your vacation. Cozumel is a great port to visit. We went to mr sanchez and service was great there also. Read Less

We selected cruise for the kids. we have two teenagers and this was their first cruise. We gave them a curfew to be back in the cabin for dinner and 12 midnight every night. Overall they both had fun. My husband and I relaxed for the most part. No problems getting deck chairs or sitting in the adult only areas. There were two back to back issues with the pool on deck 9 however. The first was a child that pooped in the pool. Carnival cleared the pool to clean it quickly. I don't know why this child didn't have on a swim diaper. the second was a child threw up in the same pool! Needless to say, I did not get in the pool the entire trip! Our room was clean and the cabin steward was very nice and very friendly. If we sail again on the Valor I will NOT get off the ship at Progresso. First of all the gauntlet of merchants you have to walk through to get to the beach is crazy. The endless pulling at you to buy a trinket, massage, drink, cigar, pet an Iguania , t-shirt etc is crazy! ENOUGH. Once on the beach it does not stop. you can not enjoy the day because here comes the merchants wanting to braid hair, sell coconut milk, henna tattoos etc. I returned to the ship within 20 minutes. I stopped at the duty free shop to buy some Mexican Vanilla and I was followed through the store! Everytime I looked up, there stood a worker! I noticed they followed me and everyone that LOOKED like me too! I was insulted and angry. I logged a complaint with Carnival about this practice. Read Less

We choose this cruise by dates available at the time. For the first cruise not knowing what to expect it was a good experience. Only real complaint was the food during the dining time. We found that you could eat better at the Lido deck in the food court. Burgers and Mexican food were great and no extra charge, that was a huge plus. Dining hall server was very friendly that was the only plus to that experience. Had a wonderful Seward, we was very friendly and called us by name every time he saw us. That was very welcoming. Easy off the at the ports. We caught rain at Cozumel. It all worked out though. Our excursion guide let us go at a later time. So we got to experience the dolphin swim. We had a great time in progresso on our excursion. They were very helpful and knowledgeable about the Myan ruins. Answered any questions we had. Super friendly! Over all will go again. Thanks Carnival! Read Less

We chose this Cruise kind of at the last minute. The itinerary fit are cramp schedule and since it was our first time cruising we just went for it. The cruise left from Galveston, which was near our home, and headed down to Cozumel and Progresso. Loved Mr. Sancho's in Cozumel but did not enjoy Progresso as much. We did not really plan an Excursion in Progreso and had planned on just making it a day of exploring and shopping. That was a rookie mistake. Ours was the only ship in Port that day and the people trying to sell things were relentless! If I were to do it again I think I would go out to see the ruins. The room was small but plenty adequate for the trip. The music entertainment ranged from good to great. Loved the piano bar. And everyone in my group enjoyed the food. The best thing about the entire cruise had to be the incredible service. The people who work on this ship really made this vacation a special trip for my family. Read Less

We just got back from a 4 day, 6/7 - 6/11. Embarkation was so easy and the staff was wonderful and cheerful. We were in outside cabin 1621 and 1623. My wife and I are in our mid-fifties with our grown children ages 28 & 30. Greater by our Cabin Steward, Yuli, who was very pleasant and asked our preferences. We begged to have NO towel animals which went on deaf ears. But she did give us extra towels every day. We tried to keep the trash can out and even asked her but she kept putting it back hidden. Our first night we went to MDR, Lincoln dining room. Our head Waiter was Marius who always seemed like he was doing too much and couldn’t handle it all and didn’t rely on his helpers. However he gave great service and exceeded our expectations. Food was mediocre and barely warm at best. I can say that anything stood out, except for the chocolate melting cake, Mickey Mouse. The staff seemed very tired on the ship and most service matched the condition of the ship. The ship was not very clean, the public restrooms were on the verge of being disgusting and rust was seen everywhere. In Cozumel we went to Mr. Sanchos and had a wonderful time. Highly recommend reservations as they were turning people away without them. Lowlight was the Seaday Brunch. Under staffed and the waitstaff was horrific. And the food matched the service. Got fruit platter twice and neither time were they cold (who really likes warm cottage cheese). Eggs and most meat over cooked except for the bacon which was almost raw. We usually love Seaday brunch but this trip the Lido was probably better (did I say that?). Highlight was of course the Steakhouse. Our two waitresses had a major attitude and gave the staff table next us much more attention. However, the food made up for it. Not liking snails they made the escargot with shrimp and it was incredible. Don’t know which was better, the Cowboy, the lamb or filet. And thankfully they had the old menu so we ended up with the Chocolate Sampler...YUM!!!! My wife and I are Platinum and we made our way to the Lincoln dining room for debarktation with our children. Took 20 minutes to make it there from deck 1 as most passengers tried to get off before they were scheduled. Some almost unruly when they tried to clear the deck for customs inspection. The staff did their best to no avail. All in all it was a good time. This was our over 30th cruise on multiple lines and our children have over 15 and we all agreed that the ship needed a much needed cleaning and the staff needed a fun ship makeover. However, any cruise is a good cruise and we made the most of our time. Read Less

The cabin was not the cleanest and there were hairs from the past cruisers left in the shower. The food was HORRIBLE, Service was ok. Some of the staff were just RUDE especially to my children. DO NOT take your kids to CAMP CARNIVAL because they acted like they didn’t even want my child to be there. They told me to keep a phone on me that they gave me. They didn’t ask, they told. Not great on board entertainment at all. They nickled and dimed you to death. I have taken many cruises and this was the worst. I’m not a complainer, but please don’t waste your money. The dr.seuss theme is very misleading also. Anything to do with dr.seuss you had to pay extra. They are not very accommodating for kids. The last night of the cruise the camp was closed from 3 till 7. Our entire cruise revolved around camp carnival. Read Less

Just wanted to come back and tell my experience. The room was VERY CLEAN The Food in the dining room Exquisite. We ate there for dinner every evening. The Burger joint was exceptional. The buffet was good enough. The BBQ we didn't like at all. Maybe because we have such great BBQ in TX but we couldn't eat it. Portions of all the food was plentiful and of course you can get more. We had a team in the dining room for the first 2 days and they were great. The next two days we had a different team and they were SLOW. Dinner lasted way too long. There were things we wanted to do after dinner but missed some because it took so long to get our food. The next night we asked for our original waiters and were very happy that we could get them. My complaints are that the pool is way too small for that many people on the boat. And yes there were a couple. All too small. The other complaint is the safety meeting you have to attend. They need to improve that. I have always hated it and I think it is getting worse. It took at least 30 min to get everyone in there. We were early so we were backed up against the wall. There were four rows in front of us and they kept telling them to move back and they couldn't move back any closer. It was close to 100 degrees outside and standing there in that crowd with no circulation I am surprised no one passed out at least not in our group. With that many we could not hear the instructions which meant we went for nothing. They need to work on this. Then heard the there were a few cabin numbers called out to meet in another room I assume because they didn't show up and now they get the instructions in a much less crowded comfortable room? Not sure but not happy about that at all. Read Less

This was our first cruise... and it will almost definitely be our last! I felt like part of a herd of cattle, being ran here and there. It was hot and miserable for the embarkation and debarkation and meetings. There wasn't enough entertainment on board to keep you busy in between excursions. The beds were rock hard and kept separating. The pools were so tiny and crowded. The crew was not all that helpful and there was definitely a language barrier. How can they help if they don't understand what you need? Our steward kept forgetting things in our room. They need more information when you're booking to help you choose a room, activities, etc. and a more detailed map on how to get where you need to be. Some floors don't go all the way though. It was very disconcerting. I was very disappointed. I was so looking forward to our very first cruise and this one ruined it for me. Also, the excursion crew flat out lied to me to get me to purchase an excursion. I was pissed! Read Less

This was my families 8th Carnival cruise. First time on Valor Room attendant didn't clean the room to good. He only fixed the bed and took out the trash, didn't vacuum the whole time. We only asked for the room to be cleaned once instead of twice and he didn't do a good job at all. We might have seen him in the hallway 3 times total. They confiscated our fan at embarkation and didn't even tell us. The room attendant said he would check on it the first night but never did. According to carnivals policy a fan is allowed in your state room if used with caution. We asked the cruise director about it so he introduced to a supervisor of the hotel. He said fans are not allowed, so i showed him carnivals website where it says they are allowed . He acted like it wasn't carnivals site so I had to prove it to him. Finally he said he would check with security and get us one brought to the room that belonged to carnival while he found out why it was taken from us before boarding. Well of course the fan never showed up and of course he never got back with us. On the last morning I went to guest service to pick up my fan and asked (guest service member) for his name and she wouldn't give it me. She said she would take a statement but wouldn't give me his name. The seafood counter in back closed early, sometimes they would stand in the back and tell you it was open but wouldn't ever come to the front to take your order. The basketball court closed every day at 5pm and that was what he does most. Other Carnival ships basketball was available untill 1130p. The buffet was the same thrown together food from the day before. We ate guys burgers mostly but it closed early also. They didn't have the Las Vegas the shows every night. One night they just sat on bar stools and sang country songs. One female security guard that was on the check in gang way after the port stop was very rude to my 13 year old daughter. Then the lie they tell you that if you carry your own bags off the boat is faster was so far off. It took 3 hours for them to call our floor. They called 5 floors of guest that checked their luggage off before us. They wont let you stay in the room so it looked like a homeless bridge under pass with 3000 guest sitting in closed bars , hallways , in the casino with all their luggage. Read Less

I enjoyed the Carnival Valor for a first time experience. Embarkation and disembarkation was smooth. We had faster to the fun, which I made the experience virtually hassle free. The ship was nice, well maintained. A little awkwardly structured as you can't go the length of the ship on each deck, which made for lots of lost people and constant confusion. But overall the ship had nice amenities. Our balcony cabin was on the snug side but decent for the time length and number of people. Our cabin steward was excellent. Dining was also another highlight. The main room dining was wonderful, the lido dining (with the exception of the pizza and the buffet after breakfast) also good. Most of the food was great. The Steakhouse however, was exceptional! From the food to the customer service, it was all good. We didn't partake in a lot of the entertainment or activities but we did enjoy the ones we did. The poolside theater, golf, the library playing games against other families, the sports bar, were just a few of the highlights. The shows didn't really peak our interest, nor did the bars. The service was great throughout the ship. No real complaints there. Of the two ports, we enjoyed Cozumel most. We are returning there next year so we can experience it more. We decided on Paradise Beach, which we end up not liking very much. I would love to explore the island more. We did shop a lot and ate some really good food. Progresso was sort of a let down. Our plan to go into Merida was stopped due to overpriced and overly aggressive people who changed the fare prices. We made our own fun there and did more shopping. Our daughter enjoyed herself overall and is ready to go again. That being said, yes we are going again next year, just not on the Valor but only because it is not available for the time and itinerary we need. I liked that everything was straight forward such as pricing and instructions at port, even a newbie can understand. Read Less

I was so incredibly disappointed with this cruise. This was our 5th cruise overall and 2nd with Carnival. We enjoyed our previous cruise with Carnival, but this one was a let down in almost every way. I asked several of the passengers that were Gold members if it was just this ship, or if Carnival has gone downhill. They said it was a bit of both. My first tip would be to choose ANY other cruise. Embarkation: It was quick and easy! The Port of Galveston was very easy to deal with. The WiFi: The one thing that all the Gold members complained about was the WiFi. They all told me that they were going to go get a refund on their WiFi packages because it was unusable. I purchased the Social Package. I was happy with the price. It was slow. But since I was mainly using it for messaging, it was ok for me. Uploading a picture could take a long time though. The Ship: Overall the ship was ok. The elevators were incredibly slow, usually packed with people and often with people's left over food or drinks. Even though we were low on the ship, we took the stairs most of the time. For the most part the ship was easy to move around in. But there are places where you have to walk through a dining room or other venue to go forward or aft. This was really annoying when we were trying to listen to the musicians and people were constantly walking through the room around them. The Pool Decks: We had several bad experiences on the pool decks. 1) On our port day, we stayed on board and decided to relax on the Serenity Deck. I immediately stepped on a thumb tack outside the crew door next to the hammock. I walked down to the infirmary where they supplied first aid materials and a tetanus shot free of charge. Unfortunately, I was also told to stay out of the water for the rest of the day. There was very little to do on the ship so this was a wasted day. 2) For some reason the staff came by in the late afternoon and made us get up off our loungers so they could stack them. They seemed to do this every night around dinner time. While I have seen them stack the chairs on other cruises, I've never had a staff member make me get up. 3) The stairs down from the track get very slippery when wet. My husband walked over to the stairs to leave and fell down the stairs. His hand was cut and his thumb badly sprained. They need to improve the safety of the outside stairs. If my husband had been older, this fall could have been catastrophic. Dining: The food was inconsistent. We ate in the dining room every night. There were some issues with cooking consistency (I had a flat iron steak that was well done on one end and rare on the other. I also had fish that was way over cooked.) My service staff was excellent. They were the best part of this trip. After my second meal, I started ordering what my server recommended. That worked out much better for me. One other strange thing was the way they packed the Washington Dining Room. We were literally sitting in the middle of the walkway. Waiters walked by us with full trays all evening long. It was distracting. But I didn't want to leave my wait staff, so we didn't asked to be moved. But this is just one more example of the fact that they are not thinking about their customers. The food on the Lido deck was plentiful and varied. The wait time was long for some things (stir-fry) but most of it was fast. We did enjoy our lunch from Guy's Burgers. One last thing that surprised me.. This is the first cruise I have been on where lobster and steak weren't staples of the formal night. They did have them for an upcharge. Entertainment and Activities: We did enjoy playing Bingo. But there was actually very little going on until very late at night. We did enjoy the musicians when we were able to go. Note: if you love a DJ playing pool/drinking games, that went on at the main pool during the daytime. Service: The staff on this ship were the highlight. They were all very friendly and happy to help! Ports/Excursions: We planned on taking a SCUBA diving excursion in Cozumel. Unfortunately, due to the weather, our ship was diverted to Progresso. We have been there on a previous cruise and chose not to go again as there is little there that is interesting. Debarkation: This was also easy. The only complaint I have is that the cruise director spent all morning on the loud speakers lecturing people to do as they were told. I understand that a lot of people were ignoring him. But as someone that was doing what they were told, it was really annoying to listen to all morning. Overall this trip was a huge waste of time and money. I realize that they had no control over the weather, so I don't hold that against them. However, they have control over what they provide. It felt like they were doing the very minimum to get by when it comes to quality of materials and services. I would only recommend this cruise to people who are coming solely to party with their friends and have an up to date tetanus shot. Read Less

We went on a group cruise with friends. Our room was always clean and our cabin host was always helpful and friendly. The issues I had was that they boardered on harassment on the first day to push drinks on you. The closest ice machine was out of service the whole time. But what should have been unacceptable was the elevator that went to the 12th floor where the kids camp was located was out of service the whole entire cruise. I am disabled and climbing a flight of stairs is both difficult and painful for me. Also disembarkment at the first port was horrendous. Basically the whole ship was told to go at the same time. Disembarkment at Galveston was similar to the chaos at out 1st port. If you do the dune buggy tour take snacks unless you want to pay an additional $20 per person to eat at the beach. Read Less

My experience aboard Carnival Cruise Valor is one the I will never forget. It was the absolute, most in-describable, Worst trip of my life time. From the time I Embarked on the cruise ship until the time I disembarked, I experienced the worst service ever. I may have gotten greeted by someone on the ship less than five times. I began counting after we had gone an entire day with only 1 person greeting us with a welcome. We never got a warm welcome, it almost seemed forced when a cruise member spoke. Whenever they spoke it was Not with much enthusiasm. No one on the cruise had High Energy. Everyone seemed angry, and annoyed. I avoided asking for help from fear of someone responding with an unfriendly and unhelpful tone. Most of the crew members body language read “I am unapproachable!” I booked a balcony cabin, cabin 8397 cruise date May 10 – 14, 2018, and my horrible experience begin the same day. The person who was assigned to keep our cabin tidy, did not display a friendly and helpful attitude. In fact, when I asked a question she looked annoyed as if I was intruding on her time. I felt like she half cleaned the room, so I asked her not to clean and that we would just do it ourselves. I was surprised when the Supervisor came to our room to inquire about our satisfaction. The supervisor was the 1st person who had greeted us after being on the ship an entire day. The Supervisor apologized and assigned someone else to tidy our room. I was pleased with the replacement person. He was nice, and the room was cleaned well each time we left and stayed away for a while. The next Horrible experienced happened during dinner time. I will admit, we were 20mins late for dinner and when we arrived the person overseeing the dining area, Rolondo seem upset that we were late so without looking at us he snapped for someone to walk us to our table. When we arrived, I assumed we were at the wrong table because it was a table that could accommodate six people, but 4 people were already seated and looked at us like why we are crashing their table. It was three of us, so I thought well maybe this is the wrong table. It was not explained to me that random people would be sharing a table. I would have never agreed to sharing a table. I asked for another table and when I did that, we got a lot of angry glares, the host, Kaitlynn seemed agitated that I had asked for another table. Kaitlynn and Rolonda talked among themselves and not to us, before I knew it we were directed to wait outside in the foyer until they could find a table. Finally, after 15 minutes, someone motioned for us to come back in and we were seated a private table. I wanted to leave but I knew had we not eaten dinner, we would have to wait for the next morning to eat because most of the food stations begin to close at 9pm. There was not a lot of food options after 8pm and I did not like that. I hoped that we would have access to some type of food, other than a few selections of sliced pizza, after 10pm. The next horrible experienced came when the ship docked at Cozumel port. I think we may have arrived late because we were advised to remain in our cabins until they made an announcement that were available to let us off the ship. Well around 8:30am they made an announcement that all who had excursion that we could leave the cabin so that we can make it to our meet up points. Our meet up time was 9:15am. I was afraid we would miss our connect because everyone left their cabin at the same time and we all ran into each other just to find out they were not ready to allow us to leave the ship. The lines were very long in the hallways. It took another 15 minuets before the let us off, so at this point I thought we would not make our connect for our excursion. I am sad to report, my horrible experienced continued through the entire time of cruise. It continued all the way until it was time to disembark ship at Galveston, TX port. We decided to take our own luggage using the express departure thinking it would save time. It saddens me to say it took over 3 hours to disbar ship. I felt like everything and every crew member were unorganized the entire ship. This was my 1st experience of Carnival and it may by my last experienced because I left the cruse with not one Good memorable thing to take back about my Carnival Cruise experience. Read Less

We took my 18 year old son and 10 of his senior classmates on The Carnival Valor May 10th 4 day cruise to Cozumel Mexico out of Galveston Texas for their Senior Trip. The Carnival Valor was the best choice of ships because 1) We live in Texas and the port is 4 hours away 2)The trip was only 4 days and one Port 3)The cruise, for the most part is inexpensive I will say from an 18 year old point of view is that they had a blast. Some of the students said 10 out of 10. My son had a blast, but has cruised before and knew that this ship was not as nice as the one he has been on (RCI FOS) Being with his friends was priceless for him though. I personally did not like the layout of the ship. One reason being that traffic is directed through the casino. I hate the smoke smell, and I hate that our teens walk through the casino to get from one end of the ship to the next. You can get land locked mid-ship. When you ask someone how to get through to AFT, etc, they will tell you "go up to deck 5, then come down to deck 3, go down stairs, blah blah" WHAT? I think the bottom line is that you get to the floor that the casino is on to get to forward or aft. Another layout issue is the Adult Area. The Adult Only pool and the Serenity Deck are not together. To get to The Serenity Deck, be prepared to climb up steps. There is no elevator. Why does Carnival ask their older passengers to climb stairs? I don't go on vacation to spend time climbing stairs. I don't mind some, but when your vacation is spent climbing, then to me, that equals no fun. My husband has had a hip replacement. Before the surgery, there would have been no way for him to get up there. My knees are beginning to get a bit sore in general. Food was great. We picked a cruise because most of our group of Seniors are boys and they need to eat. I think they loved Guys Burgers. The Mongolian got a thumbs down. My husband loved the Cantina. The Lido food was ok, not bad. Plentiful and basically good. The dining room was open for Brunch every sea day morning and the food and service there is fantastic. The evening meal was also very good. Carnival does their dining room very well. Dani our waiter was an absolute ROCKSTAR to our Seniors. They LOVED him. He could do no wrong in their eyes. The Carnival Valor served its purpose for the short trip close to home with our teens. The Valor is a value party ship. I personally will not be picking this ship for any future cruises Read Less

My daughter's chose this cruise and it was all of our's first time. I live in Galveston, so it was very easy for me to get to the ship. We were a bit confused by the Sign & Sail set up before the cruise - what this means is when you get on board all passengers are given a card to use to purchase drinks at the bar, to get off / on the ship when at your destination etc. The card has a credit card tied to your account. You can use one card for everyone in your cabin or you can set up a credit card for yourself at one of the many kiosks on the ship. I feel this is not adequately explained on the Carnival website. As to the ship itself, our balcony suite accommodated myself and my 3 adult daughters very well. There were 2 twin beds, the couch turned into a comfy bed and another bed pulled down with a ladder from above the couch. The amount of drawers and closet space was perfect for us. The bathroom had a shower / toilet and a bit of counter space by the sink it was a tight fit - expected considering we were on a ship! We went to the Steakhouse that first evening - so delicious - strongly recommend the extra Steakhouse package. I tried the Serentiy whirlpool later that evening alone - big mistake. For some reason that night ...and just that night (I tried it later in the trip) the whole group in the whirlpool was trying to "hook up" trading room numbers and such. No my scene. But many others seemed to enjoy it. We were on the Lido deck - close to the dining halls and right by the elevators. The food in the cafeteria style dining halls was fantastic - no complaints. The lines while long moved quickly. The food was fresh, plentiful and delicious. Only downside - we had the Bubble package - to get a soda you had to go to the bar. I asked the bartenderess for a Coca Cola and she tended 4 other people who came AFTER me before she got my soda.I only got my soda after I started complaining loudly to her. She put her hand in my face (!!) then got my soda. That really was the only bad thing that happened - more annoying than bad. Our room steward was very nice. When housekeeping took the extra blankets 2 of my daughters had, he quickly replaced them. The musical we saw - a 70s disco style extravaganza - was hysterical. I normally do not go in for these types of things - but it was a great way to spend an evening. Cozumel - well I knew to expect a tourist town since I come from a tourist town myself. The vendors at the shops were helpful, the prices were in-line for what i thought they would be - not much different from where I live actually but that is okay. We went to the Spa one day - one of my daughter's purchased that extra for me. The young woman who did my nails was wonderful. She kept a nice conversation and did a nice job on my short nails. As a bonus she gave me a massage on my back and neck. Very nice indeed. One of my daughters bought the Carnival Excursion Snorkeling, Fajita Lunch and Tequila tasting package. We had a wonderful time. Jesus and Flora were fantastic. I have a bad foot - and decided to stay back with one my daughters closer to the shore to snorkel. We were not disappointed - so many brightly colored fish! My leg cramped up and out of nowhere Jesus was right there carrying me up to the dock! He did not make a fuss (I asked him not to) but helped me get my fins off and allowed me to get myself to a chair. I really like how much he respected my issue and did NOT make me feel embarrassed - thank you to both Jesus and Flora for that. As to the food, I have read many complaints on here about it - yes it is a very simple chicken, onion fajita on corn/flour tortillas. On the side was home-made guacamole that Flora made herself in front of everyone. None of it was spicy. There was not the cheese and sour cream we Americans expect but I loved it - it was perfect simple lunch. I did not do the tequila tasting but one of my daughter's said it was great. Getting to and from the excursion was not a problem - the bus taxi while packed was nice and roomy compared to other buses I have ridden on. I was worried when I got on board that we would be herded from one activity to the next. That did not happen. You were given autonomy to choose you wanted to do. You could stay in the cabin and nap, lounge by pool or watch the watch, go to shows, go the casino, go shopping whatever you wanted to do. It is not as noisy and crowded as I thought it would be. Oh to those who want to drink in a nice quiet bar with few to no crowds try the Winston. The four of us would go there to play spades and have drinks later in the evening. Very nice. .We did not go with children but the Serenity deck allowed you to be away from all the noise and hubbub of children playing if that is what you want. I did have a nice conversation with a young man (8 years old) at the whirlpool on the Lido deck. It was empty so I got in the whirlpool - this after we got back from the excursion and my leg was still sore. He asked if he could join me - I said of course. I recognized him from the excursion - he was very polite and asked if I was okay - he noticed while snorkeling that I was in pain. His parents should be proud of him. He said I reminded of him of his Grandmother. I told him he reminded me of my grandson who is about his age. We got along great! I strongly recommend this as a nice affordable vacation and the snorkeling package - hope you get Jesus and Flora! Read Less

Embarkation went very smoothly, Disembarkation was not as organized. The room was so full it was hard to get around. Faster to the fun was worth the money. Ship was a bit old. Dining was over all good loved the elegant night. The buffets were good and also the taco bar and omelet station were excellent. Service around the pool was horrible. When the waiters finally came by they seemed rushed and almost rude. The wait for them to come back seemed excessive. When no waiters were around we made our way to the bar which was apparently understaffed as well and also very un neat. Excursion was very nice. I would love to cruise again but not on this boat. There were 7 of us on this cruise and housekeeping was always making sure that we had enough towels for showers and also pool towels. Room service was also very slow. But the food was good. Read Less

The ship is american hero theme in decor but there are non american references to the idea of valor as well. I don't know where Scarlett Ohara fits in valor. The exterior public exteriors are art deco a throwback to classical cruise ships. There are movies every night on Lido deck. Bingo is ridiculous $5,$20,$30 per game. You can drop almost $100 per session and there are 2 a day. I stayed away from the casino on deck 5. There are a multitude of raffles held to get you to buy things but very few winners. Spa was free to sauna and steam and a quiet cool place to read. The "discount spa services" are a setup for a timeshare presentation of high dollar beauty treatments. Playbill revue shows were entertaining as were comedians. There are children everywhere crying in the room next door, at the pools, in the dining room and at adult venues after 10pm having meltdowns even though they offer after hours childrens programs. The best food is in the dining room. I had your time dining; so I could eat at different times. I find eating early avoids the loud rowdy drinkers. Avoid the pizza at all cost the only time I felt ill was after the pizza. The burgers and tacos are good but only available 12pm to 6pm. Read Less

we drove to Galviston, Texas to hop on the ship. Check in was very smooth, debarktation not quite as easy, but don't let that stop you. You will have a great time and meet some very nice people on your cruise. Plenty to keep you busy and plenty of sunshine. You'll not want for anything to eat either, food at all times, from burgers to steak and lobster. The staff on Valor are so wonderful, from Brandon, the cruise director, Stephanie, Brad, and all the fun team members. They know just how to entertain and meet your expectations for a good time. Our stateroom Steward, I Komang and his partner were the best at taking care of whatever we needed. Greeting us every morning and checking on us in the afternoon and evening, Both these gentlemen are to be commended for their professionalism and courtesy to all guests. The dining room waiters were very good also, and can entertain with the best of them. Loved the food and the entertainment. There are not enough words to express how wonderful our journey was with the entire team and staff of the Valor. Thank you all for a great time and will be seeing all of you soon. Read Less

My husband and I booked our cruise pretty last minute on a whim. I'd never been on a cruise so we did lot of research ahead of time to ensure we were well prepared and had realistic expectations. We went in with reasonable expectations and a flexible attitude and had a great time! Embarkation: We chose one of the latest boarding times. We reserved a space at Port Parking and they got us on a shuttle to the port very quickly. The porters were prompt to get luggage loaded up, and the check in and security lines moved super fast. We were onboard around 1pm, so we explored the ship briefly and ate lunch (no lines at Guy's burgers) before staterooms were available at 1:30. The Muster Drill literally takes two minutes total. However, you have to wait for every passenger to arrive to begin so we ended up waiting for 20ish minutes to get started. It was pretty chilly on the deck so if it's cool out bring a sweater! Ship: The hero theme can be a little over the top at times, but for the most part the decor was fun. The ship was clean and well maintained. The layout of the 3rd through 5th floors can be a little confusing at first, but the map on the Hub App made it super easy to locate whatever we were looking for. Cabin: We chose an interior room we could splurge a little more on shore excursions. I loved our room! The bed was comfortable, closets were great size for two people, and there were enough hooks and drawers to keep everything nicely organized. It was an ADA accessible room so the bathroom was a little larger than a standard room and had a full size shower. I did not mind having an interior room at all. We were mostly in there for sleeping and showering and it worked well for that. I actually slept great in the dark room! I was grateful we brought a little fan for airflow and white noise though. We were on the very back on Deck 10, so right outside our room was an exit to a smaller deck. There was rarely anyone there ever, so it was a great private spot to watch sunsets and sail aways. Dining: Guy's Burgers was awesome! I don't even like burgers that much and it was super yummy. There was a toppings bar with thick cut bacon pieces, grilled mushrooms and onions, and more. Plus lots of condiments and sauces- the chipotle mayo was my favorite! Blue Iguana Tacos and Burritos was my personal favorite. I ate breakfast there twice (lunch lines were usually a little too long for me). The arepas huevos rancheros were amazing, and the build your own burritos were also really good. The salsa bar was full of options- basics like red and green sauce but also fun options like a watermelon and jicama salsa and a corn and black bean salsa. Pizza Pirate is open 24 hours and was a great late night snack. It wasn't gourmet or anything but it worked. The Deli provided a great snack option or alternative to the buffet if you want a made to order grilled sandwich or wrap! We went to Sea Day Brunch in the dining room on our first sea day. The cereal coated french toast looked really good but didn't necessarily taste as good as it looked haha. I may have just ordered the wrong thing! Dinner in the dining room was usually pretty good! Most nights I ordered two appetizers just because everything sounds so good! My favorites dishes were- appetizers: the steamed mussels, stuffed mushrooms, and sea scallops. Entrees: grilled mahi mahi, short ribs, and prime rib. Desserts- omg the melting cake every day but Baked Alaska and cheesecake are also winners. We tried to hit all the other spots we missed on our last day. We got small portions of the brisket, chicken, and mac n cheese from the upstairs bbq counter at the lido buffet. It's not amazing but it's a good buffet option and the line tends to be shorter. The mongolian wok had great veggie options to build your own bowl. Since it's made to order, it can take a while to get through the line. We didn't love it but it might have been the sauce we chose. If we go on another cruise, I'd love to splurge on a night at the steakhouse or at the Chef's Table. We never had anything that was bad. I think as long as you go into it understanding that everything is made in mass quantities, you can appreciate it! Entertainment: We really enjoyed trivia and pub quizzes! The America Rocks show was super fun- definitely the best of the 3 shows. We enjoyed the John Wesley Austin comedy show. The nightclub was kind of hit or miss- sometimes the dance floor was totally empty, sometimes it was packed. There were lots of other options as well- outdoor movies, scavenger hunts, mini golf, etc. We may have hit a sweet spot in between spring break and summer because there weren't too many children on board. There were definitely always some kiddos hanging out in the pool and hot tubs on the main pool deck but the Serenity deck and adult only pool are there if you need to get away :) Service: Our room steward and dining room servers were excellent and made an effort to learn your names and preferences quickly. Everyone in every capacity was doing their very best to keep things running smoothly, with a smile. Ports: We did not book any shore excursions through Carnival. We did lots of research through TripAdvisor to choose our port activities. Cozumel is lovely. We waited to get off of the ship after the initial rush and had a very smooth exit. We spent the day at Paradise Beach. In Progreso, we booked a tour through Sergio's Tours. They're able to pick you up right from port along with the Carnival tour buses. We really enjoyed it! Disembarkation: There were definitely long lines to get off the ship and out of customs. As long as you understand that you've traveled internationally (with 3000 other people) and will need to follow a lot of the same process as international air travel, you'll be fine. Checking our bags the night before made waiting in lines much easier, not having to lug our baggage with us. I would definitely go again! It was super fun as a couples getaway but would be great for groups of friends or families as well. Read Less

Went on a 4 day cruise to Cozumel. The food on board was ok. Typical cafeteria food. The casino was bigger on this ship. Our balcony stateroom was ok. The balcony door never shut all the way. The wind kept whistling through it. Remote to tv halfway worked. Black mold in shower. Fridge not cold enough to store drinks. Stains on bed linens. Ship is really old, rusty, and rough riding. It is very outdated. Some staff were very rude and ignored you. Windows were filthy. Could hardly see out my balcony windows. The red frog pub was amazing though. Guys burger joint is delicious. Disembarking was a nightmare! Staff did not handle the disembarktation at all. 5 hrs to leave the ship? Ridiculous. Shore excursion was amazing. The bar staff really takes good care of you. Hot tubs were always crowded. Decided never to cruise on the Valor again. I'll stick with the newer ships. For the amount of money i paid, i expected a little better accommodations. Read Less

We have cruised with Carnival many times and usually cruise the smaller ships. Cruising one of these guess you would say mid sized ships was a nice change. Sailing seamed to be be smoother. Would have been nice to have the new upgrades such as the USB ports in the room and the waterworks. We just cruised the Elation in January and those few amenities will spoil you. Food was good, but it was the same old menu I have had on every Carnival ship but very good quality. Also noticed that the ship had a Taste Bar but never saw it opened. The musicians on this ship were not near as good as w have had in the past. The violinist were great but others seamed to be lacking. Not bad just not as good as we have had in the past. The Skybox Sports Bar was great with all the sporting events that happened this week. It was nice to be able to keep up. All in all it was a great trip and can't wait for the next one. Read Less

This was my 15th Carnival cruise. Embarkation was a snap! Debarkation was a snap! The ship was clean. Service was great. One complaint -some of the passengers were not pleasant. By that I mean...obnoxious. Not Carnival’s fault. Some of the other Carnival ships were quite dirty and unkept and the employees unhappy. Employees on Valor seemed happy for the most part. Maybe it is the ship’s management. I don’t know. The food in the dining room on Valor was not great. My melting chocolate molten cake was like an over cooked brownie and the entrees seemed to lack flavor. I wish there was more live music on the lido deck during sea days. Although the same lido games and activities are entertaining, something different would be great. The casino was smoky. I know people smoke and gamble at the same time. Maybe the ships need to figure out a better smoke filtering system. Overall, I enjoyed this cruise with my family. Read Less

Let me start by saying I have done 4 Carnival cruises and never had a bad experience until now; our last Carnival was 3 years ago. Cabin- we had Deck 7 interior, mirror on wall was smashed needed repair. Toilets did not flush frequently. Bed was comfortable and room steward good. Lido Deck Buffet- SOS daily, never a change. Steak House, served my husband a New York Strip with a bunch of grizzle, bad! Dining room- nice but slow Guys Burger- high point and best food boat. Embark and Debark easy and fast Casino- although I won, I was betting over $8 a spin and return on many machines was zero. Gym- adequate for a trip Shows- great! Karaoke- if you like Rap for karaoke, be my guest. Also lady running show clearly put people she liked up a number of times while others could not sing. Winston’s-best find, a little too late, we found this on our last night. Guests- about as rude as I have ever been around. Now understand wanting to bring your kids, but if you have never taught them manners, leave them home! Adults- it’s called a buffet, but folks were piling like 20 pieces of bacon to the point the cooks are rationing it, it was gluttony. I met a few foreigners and it was embarrassing we as Americans can act to rude and disrespectful. I don’t want to sound like a big gripe sessions, but I wanted people to be aware that although Carnival is clearly not the top cruise line or most expensive, it can clean up its act when mirrors and windows are smashed, and they run out of coffee in the latte bar on day 3! It’s a mess! Read Less
