We chose this cruise because we wanted to sail from New Orleans and we wanted to cruise during our anniversary. We know Carnival has a reputation for loud partiers, but we thought getting a balcony cabin would help us avoid some of that. In a nutshell, we wouldn’t chose this cruise if we had the choice to make again. The Valor was old. We knew that and didn’t mind as long as the ship was clean and in working order. For the most part, that was the case. The ship decor was a bit outdated. Again, not really a deal breaker. Our cabin was a balcony cabin on the 9th deck-lido. We liked the convenience of being there and it really wasn’t too loud. Most things were in working order, although one lamp by the sofa never worked the entire duration (and we notified the steward of this the first day). We liked the size of the room. Decent for two people. The balcony was wet most of our stay because of condensation leaking/dripping from above, so that was a bummer. The steward was nice, prompt, and accommodating (I requested extra hangers). The food in the steakhouse was good. We paid $38 extra per person to be able to get decent steak. The first night you get a free bottle of wine if you go to the steakhouse; I knew this from reading reviews, but the wine steward didn’t tell us this. I had to ask, and then he acted perturbed and said yes. This was really the kind of service we received from most waiters and bartenders the entire time. Irritated, perturbed, put out that they had to serve you. There was definitely an undercurrent of dislike/disdain from most of them. We are polite people and we tip extra, so this behavior from them was unwarranted. We even had some bartenders intentionally/blatantly skip over us and ignore us, for no reason. This makes a vacation really no fun at all. Exceptions:Alchemy bar. The bartenders there are nice, knowledgeable and efficient. But, you have to like strong, expensive mixed drinks to go there. The main dining room (ours was Lincoln) was sub par. Service was VERY slow, even though they scurried around like they were very busy; they didn’t appear to be organized or efficient. I wondered if the waiters were just pretending to be busy? The last night we dined there we didn’t get our drinks until we were almost finished with the meal and we only got them because I asked a busser from a nearby section about them. She took pity on us and stepped up to serve our table. I really don’t understand why we had to be treated so rudely (ignored) on the actual day of our anniversary. I made a point to go to my room, get cash, and place it directly into Cindy Lui’s hand to thank her for giving us our drinks and taking our dessert orders, when the others wouldn’t. I vowed then that I’d NEVER go back on that ship. The main dining food was bland and really not very good. We found better options in the buffet on Lido (you have to try several entrees there to identify what is actually good, but there are some good options, and the buffet salad is very fresh and delicious). I hate to say this: The boat stank pretty often. Musty smells around the main Lido pool area (it isn’t well ventilated) and often times at various places on the boat, a strong stench of sewage would greet you. Not my idea of a fun ship. Don’t even get me started on disembarking. Just prepare yourself to wait three hours shoulder to shoulder with herds of people and their luggage (dragging down flights of stairs). Bit of advice: just go sit in the buffet area and wait until the very end and hopefully you can just walk off the boat without the crowds of 3700 people. I’m giving the cruise two stars because despite the overcrowded nature, the rude staff, the old ship, and the smell, we still managed to enjoy our time. The shows we went to were really good, the comedy acts were funny, and we liked the Serenity deck. The ports and excursions we went on were enjoyable. That said, I’ve never been happier to be off of a cruise boat in my entire life!! No more Carnival for us! Read Less

We choose this cruise as a last minute get away. It was very crowded lots of unsupervised children. My husband was in a hot tub but got taken over by children and got mug shots by parents.. he was only adult. The ships mustard station had us standing outside which was hard on people with small children, and health issues. Someone passed out near us. The hot tubs in the adult area were full and frequently closed. The pool was closed but understood that someone threw up in it. Even though we heard the comic was not that good we went. Saw lots of people get up and walk out.. He really wasn't that good... sorry but we tried and stayed to the end. On another note the 80'S show was very nice and enjoyed. Because we did not think about the timing of the cruise, the lines were very long on the ship. It almost seemed like they were short on staff in many areas. The dinning room hand us completely empty books. Lol he looked very busy and it took a lil while to flag him down to get the menu. We booked a balcony for the first time it was actually the best and we were able to retreat to our room from the crowds. Room steward was great and took care of us. Read Less

My daughter and some of her high school friends wanted to go on a senior trip so a cruise on Carnival Valor was chosen. I wasn’t excited about the choice but obliged. The cruise port in New Orleans is a nightmare. If you cruise with Carnival you are herded like cattle on and off the ship. We were supposed to board the ship at 12:30. We arrived at 11:30 and it took over an hour to board. Once on the ship we couldn’t access our room until 1:30. If you bought the cheers package and didn’t have a credit card attached to your account you couldn’t use your drink package the entire first day because, being on the Mississippi River, they needed to charge tax on drinks and had no way to charge so they wouldn’t serve you and were very rude about it...so essentially 51.00 lost the first day. The ship is old and very dated. The toilet in my room looked like it was never cleaned. It had a black mildew ring in the bowl my entire trip. The curtains in my room looked like they had cigarette burn holes in them. The sofa was dirty and worn. There is only one outlet in each cabin which makes it very difficult to get ready, charge your cell phone, use hairdryers or flat irons... The casino with live entertainment was located directly below my cabin. I had to call and complain about how loud it was nearly every night. I’m ready to sleep by 11:30 and when I can hear a song being played so clearly that I can sing the words it is entirely too loud. We ate in the main dining room two nights and the food was less than average. I had the lasagna one night and it was a square of ground beef with cheese on top. The second night I ordered the Mahi Mahi and it tased like starkist tuna. It was awful. And the desserts were equally as bad. The only entertainment we enjoyed were the comedians. The adult show was for ages 18 and above. My daughter and another boy on the trip were kicked out of the show by Casey from Canada because they were under 18. My daughter will be 18 in a month and I was also with her but Casey from Canada would not let her stay regardless of the fact that the entire rest of her classmates were in the Punchliner lounge. I think if a parent is with their child and they are fine with their child staying with the group then Casey from Canada should have left well enough alone. She even came back over to me during the show and told me my daughter was going to have to leave. Mind you she had already dicked my daughter out but she thought one of her classmates was my daughter and had snuck back in. She was hassling me to the point of not being able to enjoy the show. Casey from Canada was a total thumbs down. Service on this cruise was less than expected. Our room was only serviced once a day in the morning and they never came back to refresh your towels or linens. I had to catch a service cart in the hallway many nights just to get extra towels. I never once saw my cabin steward. The bar staff was rude or had no personality. So many times at the guest services desk they would only have one person working and a line a mile long waiting for help. They automatically charge gratuities to your sail and sign card and if you want them taken off you must stand in the very long line at guest services. Ports left a lot to be desired. Cozumel was fun and all the kids had a great time. We opted for the catamaran cruise beginning at 12:30 which included snorkeling and water toys. The lunch on the island was average and expensive. Progresso is a joke. I have no idea why they choose this place as a port of call. There is absolutely nothing there. Total waste of a day. I just returned from a Norwegian cruise in March and Carnival could definitely learn some pointers from them. I have also cruised on Disney and RCCL several times. Norwegian Bliss was an amazing ship and a wonderful experience. No headaches, long lines, rude staff and you felt like you mattered to them. They worked to take care of their guests and create an experience that would make them want to return. Carnival Valor was definitely the worst cruise I have ever been on and that sealed the deal for me. I will NEVER cruise Carnival again. RCCL and Norwegian will get my business. Read Less

I can't blame the cruise line for the weather conditions but the water was so rough and the ship rocked so much that when we arrived at Progreso, three of the four of us were so seasick that we spent the day in our cabin. Lost the money spent on our excursion. Overheard another passenger say that a staff member had told him that it was always rough sailing around Progreso. On a side note: don't waste your money on the unlimited soda package because it is NOT worth it. The only places you can get soda is at one of the bars or room service. Sodas are not covered by the package through room service so you will pay extra. You're only allowed 1 soda per room card per trip to the bar. (But one person with one room card can order a bucket of bottles of beer) seems a little lopsided. Faster to the Fun - if you don't have it, get it! We didn't purchase it and how I wish we had. You bypass the LONG lines at embarkation to get processed to get on the ship faster and disembark before everyone else. The cabins are a little tight if there are more than two people in the room but the beds are comfortable and there is PLENTY of storage space (closets, drawers and under the beds). If you are bored, it's your own fault. Every minute of the day there is something to do. Our big dilemma is trying to do everything. I highly recommend the cooking demonstration at the steakhouse. You get to taste it all and it was SOOO GOOD! We only ate in the dining room once - on formal night. The appetizers were excellent, the entree left a little to be desired and we weren't offered dessert. We weren't upset though, there is more than enough food on the ship. You will not go hungry. Embarkation was very well organized chaos. It reminded me a little of standing in line to vote in the last presidential election only faster. LOL! There are workers everywhere telling you where to go and what line to be in so getting lost really would be hard. Disembarking, however, was not as smooth. You are called by deck # if you are not a VIP or bought the faster to the fun. Unfortunately, people didn't listen or follow the instructions and were forcing their way into the lines to get off the ship even thought their deck number hadn't been called. It was a mad house of shoulder to shoulder people trying to drag their bags down 4 flights of stairs. Next time I will check our bags and choose a later disembarkation time. I don't mind the waiting, I was prepared for that. Read Less

We have sailed on this ship in the past out of Miami. We were looking for a 4 night cruise out of New Orleans or Mobile so chose this ship. Embarkation was easy other than navigating the New Orleans traffic. It took us more than 1 hour to get from the entrance to the port to inside the parking garage. Our check in time was 12-12:30 and we planned to arrive at the port about 11:45. That wasn't enough time! Overall the ship is in good condition. The crew was friendly. We purchased the Cheers package, after much debate, calculating, more debate, etc. I don't plan to calculate anymore but I think it paid for itself. However, I would not order this for a longer cruise, that's just too much daily drinking for us. Food: In a nutshell it was bad. School cafeteria is the best description. The main dining room was like an assembly line. Our waiters were not personable and it did not feel like a fine dining event at all. The Lido Buffet was equally as bad. The bright spots were Guys Burgers, yummy! Blue Iguana was also good. We ate at Scarlett's 2 nights of the 4 because it was delicious. Dress Code: Forget it. Wear what you want because no one on Carnival cares. The bright spot of our trip was The Alchemy Bar. The servers, Ivana, Maureen and Amel were wonderful and the drinks were the best! We did a mixology class with Ivana that was a lot of fun and we learned how to make some of their cocktails. Try the Basil Drop, Seduction Martini or Cucumber Sunrise! I rate this as average. It had been about 5 years since we had been on Carnival and it may be 5 more. I think we will go back to the other cruise lines for the quality of the food and service. Read Less

So I have been on several Carnival cruises and I have to say this was my least favorite. I chose this cruise mainly for my mom since it was her first time cruising I thought this ship was large enough to not feel the waves so much and the distance to the port was close enough I didn’t have to take an extra day off work to drive there. We did purchase faster to the fun which was a complete waste of money in my opinion. First things first - port of New Orleans AWFUL!!! Our check in time was 12:30-1, I don’t remember it giving me any other option. We arrived at the port area around 11:30 and then waited in a car line for about 45 min to park in the port parking garage ($88 to park for the duration of the cruise). We finally made our way up the parking structure to the roof only to find there were NO PARKING SPACES LEFT. Luckily we ran into apparently the only parking attendant working that day who had me and the twenty other cars behind me follow him back down to deck 3 where they opened up several blocked off spots. It was nearly 1pm by the time we finally got through check in and on the ship. Seemed like most folks were already on the ship so kind of defeated the purpose of having the faster to the fun pass. Bottom line - if you can park somewhere other than the port and shuttle/taxi/Uber in - do it. The ship itself was ok, you can tell it’s kind of older and you can see the wear and tear, but the crew did a great job on keeping things clean. The ship seemed generally very crowded and cramped everywhere the whole cruise. One thing I did notice was there were kids EVERYWHERE! Not sure if this ship had a kids club but it didn’t seem like it. The ship did have an adults only pool with two hot tubs in the back and the serenity area in the front. Our cabin was ok. Would probably book midship next time. Food was pretty good. We only ended up doing sit down dinner one night. All of the other cruises I’d been on the waiters encouraged people to try what they wanted, if you wanted 4 appetizers and 2 entrees go for it. I felt the waiter we had was making people feel guilty for ordering that way. It was awkward so we just chose not to go back. We just did the buffet the other nights, which was good, had a lot of the same entrees as the dining room. Entertainment was alright. We did see two of the theater shows. My mom really enjoyed those, I thought they were kind of cheesy but appreciate the work the performers put in it. I was on a different carnival cruise last November and I’m pretty certain they were the same shows. Cruise director was alright, not my favorite but he was friendly enough. Our port was Cozumel. We booked the elite champagne catamaran sail through carnival. Honestly this was easily the highlight of our trip. The group was small, 20 or so (there were other catamaran sails boarding boats nearby packing 60 people or more on one boat). We had a crew of 6 or 7 that were all so wonderful! They took us out to an area to snorkel first for a while then we got back on the boat and they took us for a nice sail while they served drinks (open bar) and a nice lunch. We stopped in another area for some free swim time where they had a few paddle boards you could try out, use the snorkel equipment again, or just simply float with a pool noodle. I’d recommend this excursion to any adult travelers!! Overall I probably wouldn’t book this cruise again, mostly because of the port on embarkation day and the age/size of the ship and it feeling so crowded. Great crew though and really enjoyed the excursion in Cozumel. Read Less

Girls trip, party of four. We had a check in time of 1130 and arrived at the port about 1045. We decided not to get faster to the fun when booking our cruise. We were happy we did not. Embarkation was a breeze. We walked through most of the line until we reached the top floor where we were assigned a section. We had section 4. It was not quite 1130 yet so we sat for approximately 20 minutes until our section was called. Overall, a great process boarding the ship. One thing though...one of the girls was not aware she had to carry on her bottle of wine and packed it in her check in. Big mistake as she never received the wine. Once on board, we decided on Guy's Burgers for lunch. Great choice! The food was great and the fries were liked by all!. After lunch we headed to the Red Frog Pub on the 5th deck near the casino. We heard there were half priced drinks. We ordered three pitchers of some concoction and were buzzing soon after. Way to early for me but we were on vacation. At 2pm we headed to our room to drop off our carry on luggage. Our balcony stateroom was located on the lido deck, 9273. We knew the room would be a tight fit for us but we weren't worried about that. Upon arrival, we could tell the room was not in the best shape. The front part of the drawer under the couch/seating area was broke and hanging off on one side. We didn't think it was that much of a problem and just went with it. Three of our four check in bags were at the door once we had arrived to the room. The fourth was not delivered until right before dinner time at 6pm. When it arrived there was a letter that they had confiscated her wine and she would not be getting it back. Her fault though so she sucked it up. The location of the room was a good choice. Really close to all the fun on the lido deck but we noticed it may have not the best location once we realized that everyone waiting for the elevator could see directly into our room. Being four single ladies in there, we entered and exited at different times. We had to be quite particular when opening the door to make sure everyone was dressed because there was ALWAYS someone standing waiting for the elevators or passing through. Lesson learned for sure. Our room steward was Emerson. We didn't see him much but he came while we were at dinner to replace the towels and make the beds. We appreciated him. We had early dinning in the Washington dining room. We were not sure why we were assigned to the furthest dinning room from our room but i am sure there was a reason, i don't know. Our wait staff was exceptional. Its unfortunate that I cant remember the third gentlemen's name but Symphop, Edwin and Z? were the best waiters we could have hoped for. Always pleasant and attentive. We enjoyed Symphop's personality and he always had the best advice for us ladies, not only about the ship or ports but about life itself. TJ was our Cruise Director. Besides being eye candy, he was really good and kept everyone entertained. Even stopped and took pictures with our group at the Red Frog Pub which we ended up visiting quite often in the evening. The live band in the Pub was the Overpriced Sombreros. If only I could find a band this live and upbeat back home, I would be happy. They were the best entertainment on the ship in our opinion. We didn't care for Brad at the Piano Bar. It was not what we were use to. He sang to his own beat and rhythm which made it hard for others to sing along as well. That's what the Piano Bar is for in my opinion at least. We left about 20 minutes after he started ended back at the Pub. Karaoke was interesting in the Winston Bar. We didn't stay long but i'm glad we at least stopped to get the experience. Evanston the drink waiter on the lido/panorama deck was very fun and had a great personality. Always a smile on his face. The last sea day of our cruise one of the girls had a medical emergency in the cabin (per-existing condition). We immediately called 911 on the cabin phone. I think the communication could have been better with the dispatcher as she/he just thought we needed someone to unlock the bathroom door. When we actually needed medical attention AND someone to unlock the bathroom door. It seemed like forever until help arrived and when they did it was a bit confusing. Once they got her downstairs to treat her, the providers did an excellent job at taking care of her. She was especially appreciative of the nurse, Ms. Lorato who was very attentive and compassionate. Luckily after a few hours, we were all back upstairs and she was recovering well. The morning we arrived back at Galveston seemed like total chaos for us new cruisers. We had set our check in luggage outside our cabin door the night before but were unaware there needed to be another tag besides the one we embarked with on our luggage. I think this miscommunication had to do with our room PA speaker not working. We missed many announcements on the PA for this reason. We could not hear what they were saying from inside our cabin. When we finally made it down and off the ship, there was a long line to go through customs and we still didn't have our luggage. We had to wait until the very end and locate our luggage in the lost and found. Lesson learned once more! It took us a few hours to actually get out of there. We docked about 0630 and were finally out waiting for our ride at 1000. We all loved the cruise and the ship. We have already booked our next cruise on the Vista in May 2020. First cruise of many. Rusted in many places. Duct tape even ran along the staircase railings. Never seen anyone cleaning except our room steward. Public restrooms even smelled bad. Very poor! Cleanest nicest part of ship was our room. Entertainment focused all around remarks toward sex or alcohol. This is definitely not a family oriented shop nor is it for one who is not there to party. I chose this cruise for the price, short duration of trip, and departure port. It was the most boring vacation i've ever had. First of the positives: food was ok, you really should go hungry on the ship. Lots of food options. 2) Room was spacious and ship was clean. 3) Ship sailed on time and arrived on time at destinations. 4) Good excursion options. Negatives: 1) Very old ship. Stinky, stale furniture and decor. This ship is 15years old. Worn but kept clean. Absolutely nothing fancy here. 2) Zero entertainment for non-drinkers. You get to play bingo and some silly "name the xxxxx" type of games. Ship had two indoor theatres with no daytime running shows at all. The theatres are constantly used for sales pitches for various products. Very pathetic. This was like a walmart standard type of cruise. It was my familys first cruise and none of us liked it. Perhaps other ships have a lot more options and facilities. Read Less

Overall the cruise was very good. The dining room service (Komang) and room steward (Andre) were exceptional. Embarkation was hampered by fog and the Carnival representatives at Houston Hobby did a good job of keeping order and organizing the shuttle to Galveston. Processing at the Galveston terminal went smoothly. Although the crew had a short turnaround time, our cabin was ready when we arrived. The dining room menu offered a variety of meat, seafood and vegetarian options. Lobster was served twice and both times a second lobster tail was offered. Cruise Elegant dinners that did not require a coat and tie were appreciated. The appetizers and desserts gave us an opportunity to try foods we were not familiar with. We sat at a table for four in the Washington dining room. There was one hiccup with early dining. Ordering, being served and eating took nearly 90 minutes. As a result the 7:30 PM shows were started by the time we reached the Ivanhoe Theatre. Shows that featured the Carnival dance and song team were high energy and very enjoyable. Unfortunately we did not get to see the entire productions. The Panama Canal partial transit was an experience we looked forward to and we’re glad we booked this cruise. Limon, Costa Rica and Cozumel, Mexico provided good tours. In Limon we took the Bus, Boat and Train tour. In Cozumel we took the San Gervasio, Island Tour with lunch. Both tours had well-spoken and knowledgeable guides. Counting the canal transit as a sea day, there were six sea days. For some people that was too much time at sea without getting off the ship. If this cruise is continued it may be wise to add a stop in Panama. Valor was underway on Ash Wednesday. A last minute schedule adjustment permitted an Episcopalian Priest to distribute ashes. Over 100 people met in the Eagles Lounge to receive ashes. After the distribution we were waiting for the elevator with the priest and people lined up to receive the blessing. Carnival should be congratulated for this service. Tying to move 3,000 passengers off the ship and through customs is a challenge. It seems something could be done to reduce the stress and extended time of standing in line. Thank-you Carnival for the good service and making our 50th wedding anniversary cruise enjoyable. Taking a cruise to the Panama Canal was on our bucket list however this ship is a rust bucket that has not been updated since it's inaugural voyage and it shows ! The entertainment is done by the same six people for every night, and is horrible. Every show ended with fewer show goers than it started with. Since Carnival has added the "tips" to your bill -- the service has significantly diminished -- no incentive for top notch service. Like no table clothes on the dining tables, meals delivered at different times for people at the same table, service taking over two hours to complete, cabin service was minimal, etc.. Don't bother purchasing the WIFI -- it's spotty to non-existent. Departure took three hours (Disney takes about 30 min.). We have been on 12 cruises and this was the worst. Take a few minutes and look for a cruise that still provides an excellent cruise experience. I'm not sure if this cruise was representative of the overall Carnival cruise experience, or just this ship however this cruise ship is not worth the money or representative of what a good cruise experience can be Read Less

My husband and I had a lot of fun, we did have a few hiccups along the way but nothing that caused our vacation to be ruined. Traveling this trip was only my husband and myself, we were on Carnivals Valor. Our embarkationwas very smooth, We arrived at the pear walked right onto the ship with no waiting what ao ever. I had my first drink in hand within the first 10 minutes of being on board. The lunch buffet was ready and everything was perfect. One thing is the Valor is in need of a face lift. It is an older ship and you can tell. From what I've heard she is going to go into dry dock for renovations and a name change but that's still a little ways away. The first night we had reservations for scarlets steak house. We received a free bottle of wine for going the first night. The food was phenomenal. Sooo good. And since we were celebrating our anniversary they gave us an extra tiramisu dessert and 2 free glasses of champagne. Breakfast in the mdr on the other hand was a little disappointing for me. At my table after everyone had ordered their breakfast and when the food started being passed out everyone's orders were given to them as a complete order, but mine... my potatoes were missing from my plate and the bacon I had ordered was missing as well. By the time I received my full order half the people were nearly done eating and my eggs were cold. So needless to say we had the buffet for breakfast the rest of the trip. The ports we visited were cozumel and progreso, both were fun, but we enjoyed cozumel better, Mr Sanchos in particular. We chose not to take a taxi like everyone had said, we rented a scooter and did a little shopping and sightseeing before we went to the resort. We enjoyed the scooter a lot, we probably payed $10 more for the scooter than a taxi to Mr Sanchos and back, plus we got the extra memories too! Disembarkation was rather interesting. When we arrived back to the port to dock, the port was closed to boat traffic, due to fog. We were supposed to disembark at 8:15 but wasnt able to until around 11:15 or so it may have been a little earlier but we wasnt worried in the slightest, we drove in so we were good with whatever time we got back. Over all, we will be cruiseing again, we aren't quite "hooked" or addicted yet but maybe after another cruise. Read Less

We had one of the cheapest rooms available on the 7th floor, kind of near the elevators and the room was just fine since all u do is sleep and shower there. the room was good size considering and our room attendant Pen was very nice and gave me the extras that I requested like extra pillows and towels. Over all the ship, even though it was an older ship it was still in good shape and kept very clean. there were a few things here or there that could be upgraded but overall ver nice. The food in the buffet was pretty good. we ate there for the majority of our meals. For breakfast the made to order omelettes we very good so we just ate those as the breakfast foods on the buffet were somewhat lacking in quality and someone should teach them how to cook bacon so its actually cooked so we stuck to the made to order omelettes and a few danish or French toast. The rest of the time the food was typical buffet food , some good some not so much, but by the time I eat a nice salad and find some entrees I like I was full each meal and felt fine afterward. The burger place was very good but only open till 6pm which would be nice if it were open a little later. On the "dress up" night we ate in the dining room. the food was very good, prime rib, shrimp pork etc and the service was spot on!! They even do a little entertainment which was quite enjoyable. The last night we ate in Scarlettes Steakhouse and it was excellent and well worth the extra money !!! Again, steaks and shrimp and salad and bread the side dishes every thing was Excellent. Now as far as entertainment goes, so. was good some not so much. Kevin the entertainment director is pleasant enough and does a good job but could try to get the crowd dancing during the trivia/dance parties(70's, 80's etc) instead of just singing along watching him move. it would have been more fun to dance. overall the ships singers were slightly above average and I have heard better singers ay home karaoke, but over all were entertaining. So the trivia games were fun, and we really enjoyed the Love and Marriage game and the carnival quest. I think there should be more activity on the pool deck with games and trivia and contest around the pool for added entertainment and more games like things for people t participate in. Also the ship could be better marked with sights where certain locations are. their colored light signs don't show up well and they need more signs to help guest find their way around. All in all a very fun time but could have some improvements . Read Less

Took the 5 day cruise on the Valor with my brothers and their wives. We have been on many other ships and this was the first that was rusted, very limited live entertainment, deserts were only cake and ice cream only and steak and lobsters were $20 extra.(we have always had free lobster 1 night on other ships). The carpeting in the "suite" was very stained and I had to have them fix the balcony door so it would close properly. Shopping area was basically 2 stores and very high prices. (We were given $50 gift certificates to the store and spa and they would not pay 50% of the cheapest item which was a $125 message. There were some $10 items sold in the hallway kiosks that looked pretty nice. I was not given my promised $50/person onboard credits even though it is printed on the ticket and the free drink card I won at the casino was almost worthless as it took an average of 30 minutes for the ONE waiter to get to the table or machines and the card would not work at a bar. Slot payouts were extremely low with 5 ea 7's only paying $80 on a $1 machine. The only bright spot was the service, in that our stateroom attendant and dining room waiter (Nilson) were very good. We didn't take the excursions this time but Progresso is a new village inside a shipping port with about 20 vendors that were branches of the ones in Cozumel. We did not have children but there were a lot of them on the ship even during school days. Although we are regular cruise veterans, we would not consider the Valor. Read Less

Just returning from THE BEST VACATION EVER! If you have any doubts about if you should go, let me tell you-you need to be there yesterday!!! My sister's company incentivized their entire group of professionals with a generous vacation, plus one. Yay!!! I was the plus one. From now on when I need a vacation I will exclusively request THE VALOR via carnival cruise lines. The experience was exceptional in every sense of the word. I am more of a Vegas person and never really considered cruising as a possible equal experience. Truth be told it was far better! Major foodies like me will enjoy all of the different foods we tried-Guy's Burgers, Pirates Pizza, and should absolutely plan to savor the steakhouse and chef's table experience. The chef on THE VALOR has an imagination for creating dishes that is beyond words but I will try to do his skill set justice. He was so humble and so gifted and honest to God, his artistic dishes made me FEEL and filled my heart with respect and admiration for his pride in his craft of cuisine. Aboard THE VALOR, we visited Cozumel and had the good fortune of booking a private beach excursion. We laid in the sun and tanned and enjoyed the most pristine aquamarine waters I have ever seen in my life while being provided with an open bar and a menu filled with excellent traditional Mexican dishes such as chili rellenos, grilled fish and spicy pan seared chicken with rice. It was an extremely special experience for everyone. The 5 hours went by in a blink, but time flies when you are in paradise!!! Regarding the spa, we scheduled the couples 50 minute seaweed detox wrap with hot stone massage and followed that up with a full body hot stone massage a couple days later. The masseurs were professional/patient/attentive and beautiful to boot. Now to the heart of this discussion, if you are a gambler like us and are considering taking your chances on some slots and table games, THE VALOR is the place to do so. You will get great bang for your buck entertainment wise with this crew. I thoroughly enjoyed my time acquainting myself with the casino table attendants (Maria,Dejan, Cesar,Mario) and pit bosses (Marco,David) who provided non-stop charm and non-stop laughs and hey guys...NON-STOP COMPED drinks for all their enthusiastic gamblers. I cannot brag enough about how special this staff is to us and how key they were to our experience. They know how to party and have a GREAT sense of humor to boot! Us southerners like our hospitality and Carnival did not disappoint. Read Less

This was our first time on a Carnival cruise. (We have used other lines.) I did not ever feel where I was to be particularly clean. The food was pretty terrible in the dining room and the buffet. Cold and undercooked. There are food options that are pretty good, but you will have to stand in slow, long lines for those options. (Hamburgers, omelets, etc.) I will say the staff was very nice and always willing to answer a question or help, The cabin was so-so. As I said, not particularly clean feeling. Bed was made every morning and the cute towel art left, but didn't look like anything had been wiped down well in bathrooms. Stage shows were pretty sad. Entertainment elsewhere was very good. We went to 3 comedy shows and enjoyed all of them. We did not buy alcohol as we weren't going to pay those prices, so I can't speak to that. Truthfully, I don't think I would use Carnival again. I chose this cruise because it was to be a Birthday celebration an was 1 week after the Superbowl. Well on the sail date Feb 9 2019 the weather was cold and windy but as a Platinum member we boarded promptly and was in our cabin around 12:30.As cold as it was outside we had to stand out in the cold for the Safety drill which took about 40 minutes.I don't know if they had a sailaway or not since I went to my cabin to warm up. Well our luggage didn't arrive till around 4:00 even tho it had a priority on the luggage tag and I mentioned to the Porter when I tipped him. after we got out in to International waters I walked around the ship and didn't see any Band playing anywhere and for the whole 5 day cruise there was not a band to be found, only single persons or a trio playing horns. I was really disappointed with the entertainment.I had a balcony cabin on 6 deck and it stayed wet most of the time so that was a waste of money since I only went out there a few times when at ports. The lines were never long for food on Lido deck and it was as good as in dining room and much quicker access.the Tv in cabin was small and movies were dark and hard to watch unless the room was dark,I love movies watched one on the big screen but not a good selection in my opinion. had fun in Cozumel and Merida Read Less

We chose carnival because of family recommendations. ship is old. it's decor belies it's age, but it's immaculate from bow to stern. We cruised with another company last year and their ship was not something they could be proud of. Dining room server, i putu, and his assistant were a wonderful, fun, helpful twosome. And the dining is no longer just " food". No, it's come a long way from what you might expect. It was d__n good! Our cabin stewart, ida, was amazing. My wife and i couldn't believe how fast and thorough she was.....smiling all every time and with a jovial greeting.and let us assure you, the place was always squeaky clean. Carnival has improved vastly. and we'll be back to spend another wedding anniversary with them. We starting to dream about the next anniversary. Where you see us give a four star rating for any facet of our voyage, just add another half! ! ! ! Read Less

Pros: it's a cheap cruise and left from Galveston. Fellow cruisers were full of fun. We have been on many cruise lines, would pick the cruisers on Carnival over the more expensive lines just because they laughed so much and truly have a good time. Ship was mostly clean and well run. It was nice to have a couple of days at sea to just relax. Embarkation was very smooth. Debarkation was smooth for us, but be wise if you're on the 8th deck, they aren't allowed to leave until 1030. Our cabin steward (Wiriwan) and Lincoln dining room hostess (Melina from Romania) were excellent. Cons: the food in the main dining room and buffet is pretty poor quality. Not that we didn't eat it, just you get what you pay for. Cleanliness was fine, workers washed their hands and wore gloves, food was piping hot. Breakfast venues opened later than we were used to, but coffee was open all the time. Shows were so late (some started at 1130) that this didn't bother most people. This ship doesn't have a promenade type deck that goes all around the entire outside of the ship, something we've encountered and enjoyed elsewhere. Wishful thinking: I'd like the Carnival clientele on a Cunard ship! Read Less

My wife and I travel regularly, however Cruises are not our primary choice. We joined some friends/business partners for an excursion recently on a 5 day cruise to Cozumel. The highlight of our cruise was our couples massage on our second day at sea. In fact it was so relaxing and enjoyable we decided to schedule another massage on our 5th day at sea! Our masseuses were so amazing! If you decide to travel on Valor and are looking to make the most out of the experience, I suggest booking a massage with Dexie Ruiz or Natamon Wiboonma. One last thing, book a night at the steakhouse as well. A 5 course meal for only $38 per person is a steal...Hope the review makes your trip a little better! In case anyone is wondering for excursions...we did Passion Island at Cozumel, the only downside was how fast the excursion went...we could have stayed there an extra 5 hours! At the Yucatan, we did the Mayan Ruins (only 30 minutes away) then to the beach. The tour guide Adam made that excursion worth the cost, highly suggest it. Read Less

Overall, this was an as expected girl's rip on the Carnival Valor. STATEROOMS: Our staterooms were interior, and therefore small - however, for the value and as little time as we spent in them, they were perfect. If I had a complaint/caution about the stateroom, it would be that the upper beds in the 3 and 4 person rooms are extremely uncomfortable, and there is nothing that they have at this time that will fix the issue. If given the opportunity to review my experience directly with Carnival, I will definitely include this information. Dining: As usual, the dining was plentiful and delicious. I'm sure that there are luxury cruise lines that have more elegant or refined food, but there was literally not a single dish I ate that left me disappointed. This also goes for the bars and bar drinks. Embarkation: pain free, although, this was probably the first time that I would say that. Embarkation is always a little chaotic, especially when everyone just wants to get their vacation started! Entertainment: ABSOLUTELY, HANDS DOWN, THE BEST I'VE HAD SO FAR. Cruise director Kevin was borrowed from another ship, and he was absolutely Amazing. He did an activity two different nights, that on the activity schedule seemed rather innocuous and boring - 70's Motown trivia (1st sea night) and 80's/90's Music trivia (2nd sea night) - we would not have attended either, except that as we were leaving our stateroom on the 6th deck, we were arrested by the wonderful sound of hundreds of people singing to 70's motown music in the Lobby on 3. We immediately went to investigate and we were not disappointed. Needless to say, we were early to the 2nd event and LOVED it.This needs to be a thing on EVERY. SINGLE. CRUISE. I came back with no voice from singing. Debarkation: Overwhelming. I know this is the case every time, but I continue to hope that someone will invent a better wheel eventually. We spent more than 2 hours in the queue waiting to debark. Overall, we really really enjoyed ourselves. We had very few complaints. Read Less

This was my second time on the Valor. I was with a group of 20 ladies sailing off for a relaxing 4 day getaway. We had several brand new cruisers and a lot of seasoned cruisers in our group. We got a fog warning text the evening before, and were a bit nervous, but the Valor docked at 4:26am the Thursday morning of our cruise! Had the 1st boarding time of 11:30-noon. The absolute quickest boarding EVER! We were onboard at 11:39! Simply fantastic! Lunch at the lido buffet followed by my first Miami Vice was a great way to start the cruise. Our cabins were ready at 1:30 and we had a great room steward and a nice balcony room on deck 6. The food throughout the cruise was consistently good. Especially Guys Burgers! Get the piggy patty if you haven't had one before. Delicious! We had great weather for entire cruise until early Sunday morning when we hit a squall and it was pretty rough. Thankfully, it calmed down and even the sun came back out after several hours. Got to see the blood moon eclipse the last night from the pool deck. That was impressive! Dining room waiters seemed to have a rough time the first couple of days. They were super friendly, just seemed to be running in circles trying to take care of their section. Crew members are so hardworking and I will never understand how people can treat them so badly. My only complaint was an event held on the first sea day in the middle of the afternoon was completely out of hand (a couple of the judges) and the crew member that was in charge was absolutely NOT in charge and could not handle this one particular judge especially. There were a lot of kids out there and it was completely inappropriate to say the least! On this note - I feel compelled to say this....I have been on 18 cruises now, and have seen large families cruising together celebrating reunions, birthdays, anniversary's and the like. There was a large family on this cruise that was the worst! They took over several different venues on the ship and acted like animals. No regard or respect for other cruisers. It got to the point, that if we were in a particular venue and saw them coming, we got up and left. We just didn't want to deal with their behavior etc...this did not by any means ruin my cruise, I just feel compelled to speak my opinion. I and others heard all around the ship how this group's behavior was affecting people and their families. Just so sad that folks think this type of behavior is the norm these days. Anyway, besides this one family, I met some great people from all over and had a great time with our group as well! Read Less
