I consider myself a seasoned traveler with 6 million air miles, hundreds of hotel says and 15 cruises on 5 cruise lines. I have never written a review before because things happen on any trip and you just have to deal with it. This year my wife and I celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary and our 70th birthdays. We were looking for something special - a trip that would provide us with a great memory of these events. A lot of choices- family, friends or something just for us. Another couple asked us to consider a Canadian-US cruise on the Caribbean Princess. I looked over the agenda and a few things caught my eye - an excursion on Prince Edwards Island with a known Canadian photographer and a stop in Boston. We had previously taken a photo trip to the Grand Canyon which was exceptional. Even though we had already taken a cruise that docked at 4 of the ports, the opportunity to have a limited group photo excursion with a known photographer coupled with a few spa treatments and a visit to Boston seemed like the experience we were looking for. The Booking On past cruises we have stayed in every accommodation from a Penthouse Suite to a porthole cabin. We contacted AmEx Travel who worked with Princess. We were advised Princess had a class of service called "Mini Suite" with suite benefits -smaller than a regular suite with all of the suite benefits (special dining, special seats at events, priority embark and debark, access to the exclusive lounge, etc.) When we attempted to book the Mini Suites were full so AmEx/Princess recommended that we book a full suite and wait for a Mini. We eventually booked the Mini, 2 spa treatments, and 4 excursions and the 10 day high speed internet. We preordered "Medallions" which are digital passkeys that identify and track your exact location on board the ship. The Preparation In order to prepare, we researched the photographer and contacted Princess regarding the excursion. We were advised to bring our camera equipment, including tripods, extra batteries, extra Sd cards, etc, along with adequate shoes for rough terrain. Three days before the cruise, we spent $500 on new camera equipment - light tripods, extra batteries, Sd cards, etc.). We also bought new hiking boots. In order to accommodate the camera equipment and airline luggage weight limits we had to remove a number of convenient items taken on past cruises. Arrival In spite of being provided a "special registration desk", unlike other cruise lines, Princess did not have any type of expedited security line so the concept of "priority boarding" was lost in the process. When we finally reached the priority registration desk we were given a new set of medallions and told the ones we had were unnecessary. At the registration desk I attempted to change the credit card on file but was advised that that would have to be done at Customer Relations. The CR computers were "occupied" with the passenger changeover but I was finally able to make that cc change two days later. The MiniSuite The Mini Suite (D414) is dated with the exception of two 42 inch TV's that dominate the small room. They actually touch each other - kind of like a sports bar. There is no chance to use them on separate channels because the sound overlaps. The Medallion Class ships have high speed access and boast about their live TV news and sports including CNN/Fox News/ESPN/ESPN2. On game day I found out that the Princess ESPN and ESPN2 was the Canadian/European version with no US college football. On live ESPN we could only watch womens international weightlifting and European soccer, a far cry from US Football.. While Princess boasts that its wi-fi can stream, it cannot stream to the TV's in the room, only to your computer or cell phone. Unless you want to spend your vacation watching the news which you are trying to get away from or you enjoy womens international weightlifting, the live TV has little merit. The rooms are dated. There is only one small electrical outlet in a mini-suite and it is impossible to use a multiple plug device because the light switch is part of the outlet and any oversize plug-in turns on the light. We were able to locate an open outlet behind the large TV's and with a little dexterity you can find an open plug. Otherwise, if you need more than 2 plug ins you are out of luck. Princess also represents that each room has a hair dryer - unfortunately they are wall mount - probably 15 years out of date with very low heat output. The "Club Class" Mini-suit is not really a suite for two passengers - it seems to be more for a three or four passengers accommodation-maybe a family with two kids who want no privacy. The furniture is old and sparse and the couch is a very uncomfortable sit. The TV's are imposing and awkward for the space. There is no divider between the sleeping area and the couch so using the TV's while your spouse is trying to rest does not work. The bathroom door opens into the closet so you have to speak out before you open the door lest you hit your partner in the back. Our stateroom attendant was excellent and kept the room very clean, but it still felt very dated, like an old hotel. The Wi-Fi The Caribbean Princess is equipped with a high capacity wi-fi system that should allow you to live stream content. To do so you have to download the app, connect to the ship internet and place your device on airplane mode and pay the $150 fee.. It seems simple but everyone in our party had issues for the first several days. There is a help station - unfortunately they advised that our problem involved Apple Messenger and told us to turn it off which resulted in a total absence of e-mails for 22-24 hours. We contacted Apple - reinstatement of Messenger on the Apple server normally takes a day after shutdown. Also, if you fail to immediately put you device on airplane mode when you reboard the ship, the phone can connect to the ships general network which results in a high cellular data bill. AT&T informed me of a $120 data overage a few hours after the ship left port. That mistake cost over $200 - a learning experience. High speed access was costly but if you figure it out you can stream to your cell phone. Watching a college football game on your I Phone doesn't compare to viewing it on one of the 42 inch TV's - which don't allow streaming. The many Disappointments Immediately after entering our Mini Suite, Narag Angelito Biloro, our Stateroom Steward appeared with ship information and our excursion tickets, etc., Narag turned out to be an exceptional asset during the cruise- we always felt good returning to our stateroom because it was well kept by him. He was a wealth of information. When I asked him about the Suite benefits and access to the Private Lounge - he informed us that the Mini-Suites do not have suite benefits but only Club benefits - contrary to what we had been told at the time of booking. He understood the confusion and got us in contact with the person to talk to. Several hours later with two attempted Princess calls to AmEx, Princess allowed us the access to the private lounge.(Which turned out to be nothing) We were specifically told that we were not allowed any other Suite benefits - only Club benefits which were a half bottle of wine, priority embark and debark, Club Class Dining and priority reservations at the specialty restaurants. Next I reviewed the excursion tickets. There was a letter included which stated that the photographic excursion "YYG260A Picture Perfect with Photographer Winston Maund has been cancelled due to operational reasons". I immediately called the front desk to better understand the situation. The front desk responded that the "operational issue" was an "overbooking" and that we had been cut from the excursion. That did not seem fair or reasonable - when we signed up for the excursion we were told we were the first two individuals to book. I went down to discuss the issue at the front desk. That took an hour. The front desk said they would check into it. On the next call I was told that there were "operational issues" that caused the cancellation of the trip and no one on the ship would be participating. I inquired about the date the operation decision was made and was told that the excursion was cancelled THE WEEK BEFORE we left for the cruise. On other cruise lines there have been changes or modification in excursions but we always received immediate notice of pre cruise changes by e-mail. When I inquired about why we were not notified the answer "It is easier for us to handle it on the ship". To me that was not customer focused - particularly considering the 12 pounds of camera equipment we carted to Canada. I asked again for clarification on the operations issue and was given no response. Princess offered to place us on another excursion at our cost. The day before we reached the port I went down to the excursion desk and was told that all excursions were closed. I was later told that Princess was trying to get together enough passengers from other cruise ships to overcome the " operational" issue. The final comment I received was the excursion was "new" and they were trying to work the kinks out. You think they would have worked the kinks out before taking our reservation and money. We also had a Boston excursion booked through Princess - in spite of the fact that there had been a major 10K scheduled in Boston for months, Princess notified us the day before the excursion the Boston itinerary would be substantially modified to include only an aircraft carrier visit because of the race so we cancelled and used an independent operator. Excursions With the exception of the LULU Lobster Boat ride in Bar Harbor, the remaining Princess excursions were unremarkable. The three independent excursions we booked were better and more informative than the Princess excursions, often at less cost. The Food As any cruiser knows, the food on cruise ships is always exceptional - except on Princess. Our group of 4 ate at both specialty restaurants - extremely disappointing experiences - one guest even sent his fish back as inedible. My specialty restaurant steak was perfectly cooked but was like chewing leather. We ate twice in the "Club Class Dining" (about the only benefit you get for paying hundreds more for a "Club Class" Mini-Suite) but the food in the Palm Dining Room was better. Treats like the Lobster Dinner were basically tasteless. Prime Rib night was also a disaster - my prime rib had more fat on it than meat. I would never have served that piece of meat to anyone. The veal marsala in the Palm was much better that the veal marsala in the specialty restaurant. I thought it might just be me- but there was uniform consensus within our group that the food was lower grade than on any other cruise. The steaks (both in the specialty restaurant and the Palm Dinning) were tough with a lot of waste. More like a cheap chain restaurant than a cruise delicacy. Room service breakfast was great. A very limited selection but the bacon, egg and cheese English muffin was fine. There were three things good about dining - Phillipo the Head Waiter, Rigoberto, the Waiter and their assistant waiter (unfortunately I misplaced his name). There were attentive and provided outstanding service- remembering preferences, supplying my spouse with gluten free bread, knowing the menu and making reasonable recommendations. The problem is that the food itself was just not that good. Everyone in our group agreed on one thing - don't waste your money on the specialty restaurants - they are not worth it. Since we pre-booked the specialty restaurants the "Club Class" priority seating benefit had no value The Private Suite Lounge There is no actual private lounge for suite guests, just a lounge that is closed to non-suite guests for two hours in the evening. Drinks are charged to you room and the appetizers are below average. Other cruise lines have a separate lounge for suite guests - after we got on the ship we were told that did not exist on the Caribbean Princess. The Spa In 49 years my wife has never turned down a spa treatment - and who would - they are rejuvenating and relaxing experiences. We prebooked 2 spa sessions for her. Although the spa treatment by Isabel was OK, the after spa upsell of products and additional services was obnoxious. In stead of returning refreshed, my wife retuned upset because Isabel just kept pressing her to buy products and add additional treatments. Upselling is a part of business but when a customer says they are not interested the conversation should end. My wife is no wall flower and it would take a lot of upsell to upset her. She attributed the incident to a language barrier but "not interested" should be understood in any language. Both women in our group cancelled their second spa treatment. I was so disturbed I contacted the spa and asked them to take off the $32.00 "Auto Gratuity" - they apologized and said that no gratuity would appear on the final statement. The morning of departure the gratuity was still on the bill and I was informed that I would have to go to the desk (where there was a 30 minute wait) to have it removed. By that time I was exhausted with Princess so we simply left. The workout area is well done with adequate equipment but use is limited to 8am-8pm. If you are an early riser that exercises before breakfast or plan to exercise at the end of the day - forget it. And the thought of exercising while watching sports is limited to ESPN Canada/Europe - back to womens international weigh lifting. The Shows and Entertainment The shows and entertainment were average to good for a cruise. The stage productions were OK but you need to get there at least 30 minutes early or you will be sitting in the front few rows. Although we were about 25 minutes early for the extravaganza that included 'pyrotechnics" we ended up in row one- if that happens leave! Although the cruise line alleges to have a keen focus on passenger safety- the smoke machine will overcome you in 20 minutes. The smoke is so bad that you can't see the show. When we left, our eyes burned from the substance that they use to create the smoke effect - it is almost like a fine mist/dust. We had to use eye drops when we got back to our cabin but it took two days before the eye irritation and redness dissipated. On the good side one male singer from Vegas, a piano player and the two comedians were exceptional. After being on larger ships the stage shows were average. Princess Medical/Response We have been on two cruises where there was an outbreak of flu or a norovirus. That happens when you put 3-6 thousand people in one place. In each case the Captain made an announcement about increased health risk and the need to take special precautions, advised the passengers that the crew would be taking additional actions to respond (wiping down common areas, etc.). Those cruise lines gave you a feeling that the cruise line cared. Half way thru our 10 day Princess cruise we noticed that the crew began taking precautions - wiping down the entire theater between performances, etc. I asked if there was a particular concern and was told that there was a "flu virus" affecting many passengers and the ship was on a "Phase 2" alert. (I have no idea if that information was accurate or if there is a Phase 2 alert). I was particularly concerned because at the end of the cruise we were going to visit elderly relatives and I did not want to carry a virus to them. The day before the cruise ended my wife became ill with what appeared to be a cold. I contacted the Princess sick bay and talked with the nurse. She said that there had been a number of sick passengers but she was more focused on telling me that my call would be considered an "emergency" and that there would be a $195 initial charge to see my wife plus any testing for "the virus" would be extra. She would not provide any additional information on my general health question (Is there a virus on the ship and if so what type?) without a visit to the infirmary and payment of the $195 emergency fee. The morning of departure I called again and received a reply call from the ship Doctor. I explained to him that we were going to visit elderly relatives and I inquired if we may have been exposed to a virus on the ship. He was vague and basically said that there are sick persons on every cruise. He refused to discuss particulars or provide any information but invited us to come down and pay the $195 emergency fee for a consult plus additional fees for a test to determine if my wife actually had a cold or a virus. The attitude was appalling. We departed the ship, believing that a land side American doctor might be a better choice. Within 18 hours of departure, one of the individuals in our 4 person group became violently ill and spent two days sick in a hotel in New York - the Doctors are in the process of diagnosing the virus.. Several years ago a family member was on a cruise and broke her foot on an excursion. The Cruise company was unbelievably helpful in providing medical assistance and accommodating her for the remainder of the trip. The standard of care was exceptional. The Princess response to my inquiry was startling, to say the least. I got the impression that Princess wanted to keep information regarding health concerns suppressed and that the medical center had not meet its financial goals on the cruise. Rather than simply giving me an answer (honest or not) the individuals were focused on getting the emergency fee and were not focused on responsible care of the passengers. Those that listened to the conversation were equally applaud. Disembarkation One of the Mini-Suite "Club" class benefits was "Priority Debark" which on every other cruise we have been on means priority getting off the ship early The night before we arrived at our final port we were provided with luggage tags that allowed us to depart 55 minutes after our traveling companions that had no "Priority Debark" status. I contacted the front desk and was advised that the "Priority" disembarkation for Club Class Mini-Suites consists of a preferred waiting area and was not related to the time for leaving the ship. After another trip to the front desk I was able to get the same disembarkation time as our non-priority friends. Summary The Caribbean Princess is an older ship and shows it. Every cruise line has a personality and it takes some time to get used to Princess if you have cruised on quality cruise lines. Princess did not meet any of our general expectations and failed miserably to respond to concerns that were raised. In our opinion, the added expenses of a "Club Class Mini-Suite" has little value - the priority boarding and disembarkation did not provide any real priority, and the "Club Class" dining was equivalent to any time dining on most cruise lines. With the exception of the Luu Lobster boat tour at Bar Harbor, the Princess excursions were unremarkable. The specialty restaurant food is not worth the additional price and some of the special night food (Lobster night - Prime Rib night) was genuinely disappointing. The lack of communication regarding cancelled excursions (both before and during the cruise) and the lack of communication regarding passenger health issues (or the conflicting individual reports from crew members on both subjects) does not give one a comfortable feeling. The Spa treatments are average but the upselling pressure when your trying to enjoy the cruise is not. The hours of the workout center are limited. The above not only reflects my feeling and the feeling of the four members of our group, but was reflected in several conversations with a number of passengers that have cruised on other cruise lines. I'm sure there are individuals who appreciate the Caribbean Princess personality, particularly those that have not cruised often, but in our case the Caribbean Princess failed miserably to meet expectations compared to other cruises. This was a very poor return on our expenditure (particularly the Club Class Mini Suite) and a complete failure for a celebration. If you want a quality experience, look elsewhere. Read Less

We chose this particular Nova Scotia cruise because of the itinerary and a particular excursion with a well known photographer which was ultimately cancelled and we were not told until the last minute. So on my 70th birthday we did not have an excursion. The ship knew a week ahead. The Spa had a hard upset after a mediocre massage. Specialty dinning was a joke on my birthday, the food quality was poor. We have cruised many times on other lines and have never felt like this. Our supposed club level mini sweet was nothing special and we had to pled for access to the special lounge that was supposed to be part of the package at this level. The stateroom did not have enough outlets to plug in devices, the internet was intermittent and the ship was debuting a new medallion service that was troublesome. Overall this was a bust cruise and I would not recommend this ship to anyone. Read Less

We were excited about a trip to Greenland with Princess. We had not sailed with Princess in a number of years, last trip was on the Star Princess from Italy to the Greek Isles. Princess has cut expenses in every category. The experience was very mediocre. Cabin very small, shower for midgets, food that tasted like it came from Cracker Barrel, waiting 2 1/2 hours to get a tender to shore, another hour to get back on board, no port talks, 1 hour pre arrival time to get a seat for the show in the theater, very little to do other then spend money at the casino or cheap gift shops. I could go on but this is certainly enough for you to reconsider booking with Princess. Most fellow passengers were very experienced travers and expressed the same concerns. The trip to Greenland was the draw. Good bye Princess, this was such a subpar experience I am not willing to take another chance with your Cruse Line. Read Less

I took this cruise because of the itinerary. I have been on Princess cruises before but I doubt I will sail on Princess again. They have cut corners so it isn't the joy of cruising it use to be. The food is very low quality. The steak knifes couldn't even cut the steak. The food selections were unappetizing. Dinner in the dining room took 2 hours very night and we would have to leave before dsssert to see the show. The waiters were working very hard but there were not enough waiters They had to many tables to cover. If you ordered a drink, you never got it before the food arrived. There was no music around the ship. There use to be music in the lounges for cocktail time. The port tendering was a joke. Waiting 1 1/2 hours to get to shore. You never knew where the gangway was to get off. Then you had to walk half a mile to get off. What happened to the on and off gangways?? The entertainment was good. BUT the most spectacular show broke down in the middle and we didn't see the whole thing. Said they would show it the next day but didn't. We got off the ship to take the hop on-hop off bus to find out that it was being charged to our ship. Which means we paid $40 more than just getting on the bus ourselves. The tour we wanted from the ship was filled before getting on the ship. Most everything that we enjoyed from cruising has changed. Now it is just move the people along. So many people were saying the same things. It would be nice to think these reviews would help, but I doubt they will. Read Less

We paid for a large suite and were extremely disappointed, as all advertising material said that in Club Class we would enjoy an upscale menu. All regular dinning venues had through the ship had the menu, but we were offered ONE additional appetizer & entree per night. Could not believe that when ever the ship was docked all dinning venues are closed with the exception of the buffet We did not take a large suite to go to the buffet I will say the food & service were fine We were only able to get seats to one show in 13 nights by cutting dinner short, everyone was complaining. The theater is too small Tendering was a joke, people were going crazy trying to get off We were supposed to spend a whole day in Quebec City, but one night received a notice that the water authority issued an order that everyone must go slower so we wouldn't arrive until 12PM. They must have gotten several hundred complaints as two days later the authority miraculously changed its mind so we could speed up and arrive at our 9AM scheduled time. But we didn't seem to be going any faster The crew were just not attentive or well trained Not the best cruise we have been on Read Less

We have sailed with Princess a number of times, but had a very bad experience two years ago. We decided to give them another chance as the itinerary appealed to us. We won’t travel with them again, and our fellow passengers that we spoke with also felt very let down. Their cost cutting attempts affect all parts of the overall experience from having nothing to stir your coffee with, to reducing time in key ports at the last minute - just speed up and stop trying to save money on the fuel!!! Princess’ biggest issue is the fact they never accept responsibility for their actions, they lie, offer up pathetic excuses and blame the passengers. The reason it took 2 hours to disembark at Newport - because we all decided to get off the ship at the same time!!! The reason we had such a ridiculously long queue at Boston - that’s right, our fault for wanting to make the most of our short time there! We paid over £3k each for a mini suite but it took 36 hours and 3 phone calls to get our shower fixed. 24 hours to get water delivered that we had already paid for prior to the cruise. Vegetarians are not catered for (unless you want to live on salad), food labelling is dangerously bad and food is always cold. I’ve never seen food temperatures taken. General staff like room stewards are as nice as ever, but everyone else in what may be considered a more senior position are rude, unhelpful and critical of their guests referring to them as ‘idiots’. The entertainment is worse than 1960’s Butlins, but then the cruise director and ents team behave like that’s where they all came from. My advice - Celebrity or Royal Caribbean will value you much much more and understand the importance of good customer service. Read Less

Never have we cruised with Princess before, and believe me we will never cruise with them again. We had the understanding that this ship had very recently been refurbished. Once in board, we saw little evidence of this. The ship is very OLD AND TIRED. Dining on board was not good. We ate in the main dining with a 7:30 seating. We had a large group of 14 and had thought we could all sit together. This was not the case. We were sitting by each other, but at 2 separate tables. The head server would “suggest” his picks for dinners, which he would add that the picks were not good. We had 2 formal nights. Having read the required attire we do not remember the mention of NO shorts for men. The first formal night 2 men of our group had nice linen shorts. We had the exchange of words with the head guy and finally sat. The 2nd formal night one of our group only had shorts with him, he was not permitted to enter for dinner. The cabins were small although clean. Our group ended up sitting in the back of the boat on the sea day. We never did see anyone to serve drinks The boat itself had a lack of bathrooms. The one women’s bathroom by the main dining room only had one of the toilets working and that was only for 1/2 of the cruise. Other then that, the bathrooms were not marked well and very hard to located We saw one show up in the Skylounge. It was horrible. We all were very disappointed. One in our group checked his bill the night before we disembarked. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the whole cruise and was told the employees were at the end of their contract and was just plain tired and this was why the service was poor. Seems to me that this shouldn’t be the paying customers problem and if this was the case the cruise should have been at a deeply discounted price All in all, I was 100% disappointed and as stated before will never cruise with Princess again, along with the 13 others who were with me Read Less

We chose this cruise line because it touted it's high tech Medallion and Medallion related apps (downloaded) from home, all of which malfunctioned. Ocean Compass and Ocean Now required us to sign in repetitively, and frequently told us we had disembarked, were not onboard... we were seated by the main pool on Deck 15. IT staff onboard could not resolve the issue..we were finally told it was the make of our phone....and that upper management knew. They knew and did not inform passengers pre-cruise. Very poor. Entertainment mediocre at best. Food fair unless you wanted to go to non-fare included restaraunts. Anytime dining means 7:30-9:30 PM . Oppressive smell of sewage emanating from the Spa on Deck 16. I was told that Princess was on par with Celebrity which Ive been on Equinox twice, and traveling with friends, this seemed to work out best for their needs with 2 teenages. I will say, when we arrived at port, this was the quickest we ever boarded, and I thought this was going to be a great cruise... boy was I wrong! Our cabin was warm at best, with the thermostat as low as it could go. Our friends had one cabin down the corridor and you could feel the temperature drop 10 degrees half way to their cabin. Their cabin was nice and comfortable unlike ours. I shut the drapes and kept the balcony door closed to try to cool things down but to no avail. My friends aaid to say something. So we went to the customer service desk where they ssid they would check it out. The room steward kept asking if they came but I I never saw anyone or get any reply or notification. I called front desk to see if I could get some Ice as the refrigerator was warm. I was told it was more of a bottle chiller and not a fridge. I asked for Ice and they said to call the room steward, his number is on the desk. I told them it wasn't but he insisted it was. I told him the room steward said he was going to bring the card later when I had asked for ice, but neither had arrived. The front desk reluctantly stated they would send up some ice as I had medication to keep cold. Half an hour later still nothing, so I went to get some ice. The room steward sees me with the ice bucket and comes to grab it from me and says he will get it for me. Next day still hot, complained again, was told they came to room at it was within operational parameters. Thats when If I didn't know Princess was owned by Carninval, I would have known with that useless generic answer. But it gets better. I complain again, switch my cabin, my friends have air and I need some, the heat can trigger some bad headaches, but they have no other cabins. The person at the desk says she will try to find a fan! It made it only slightly less unbearable. Princess Cay. They turn off the water at 2pm and if you want to prevent heat stroke or dehydration, buy a bottle at the bar! Unbelievable! Back on board. We have not been able to enjoy the view or balcony as we are living in a cave. Drapes closed. Afraid to open the door to the balcony and let the heat in. Went and complained again, this time I asked what do I need to do to get off the ship in St Thomas and fly home and get a full refund! The man at customer service says He doesn't know but will find out. Next day I have hotel manager, the customer service manager who found us a fan, an officer from engineering I think and the guy from maintenance all in our cabin, suddenly they are able to drop the thermostat a couple of degrees! Meanwhile, it must be 90 in the elevators, it felt like 95 in the lobby to the elevators, and it was so humid in the elevator I asked another passenger if he was enjoying the portable sauna. Later in the cruise, the art show auctioneer said they have been working on the ac all week and it was the first time he held an auction in a sauna, yet everyone says the ac is working properly. It was getting hot all over the place. Took 4 days to find a server at dinner that served appropriately! Women first, then the teenagers, then the men. Went to specialty restaurant for more upscale dining, service lousy, no tablecloth, served men first, women last, never checked on things, when he said eggplant when placing a dish in front of my highly allergic wife, we all said wait, she's allergic to eggplant, and he says i never said eggplant, yet 4 people heard him say it as clear as day, and not once did he ask how everything was or if we would like more bread, and when the desert was suppose to have a frozen center yet 4 out of 6 of the deserts had a warm melted mess inside. It was just horrible. Thankfully we reserved the section with the waiter we found for the restbof the cruise except the last night when they refused to take the reservation. The other servers and the rest of the staff all seemed like we were interrupting them, bothering them, or when they asked if we wanted anything, it was as if they were angry when we said yes! There were very few examples of good service, the ice cream was ice milk and horrible, the ice cream in the dining room tasted like they took the ice milk from up too, mixed in some flavoring, then refroze it. Don't ask about the shows, as we never got to see one. It was probably because the kitchen was so slow to send out food that it was a good two and a half hours for us to have dinner. One day it was full and too hot to stand, the next show had the doors closed and a sign said full, the one day we got in early and made it to the theater, they had the doors closed and they said they had some technical difficulties but were doing a sound check and would let us in shortly. Well we stood for half an hour, then they let us in, then we sat for another 20 minutes before the lights went down and the cruise director comes out and says they had some technical difficulties with the stage, blamed it on the waves yet it was the smoothest sailing Ive ever been on, and says that the technical staff has been working on it but said there was no way to fix it and due to safety, they were replacing it with a last minute replacement by one of their performers and brings out the lounge singer to do a tribute to Stevie Wonder... banging on the keys something awful, it was horrendous. It would have been proper to inform us of the switch before we waited almost an hour for something put together in 45 minutes. We went to see the drag Queen show in the nightclub, those are usually funny and raunchy and a good time, this was just bad. He went to do a quick change and was on the second verse singing off to the side and struggling to get changed even with help. I asked slmebody which pool was open, he said none, eventually I found the one that was open. The entire cruise director staff seemed unorganized and even rude at times. The cruise director wasnt even sociable, it seemed like nobody really could care less. That waitor we found was surprised and in disbelief when we told him he was the only decent service we found on the ship, he almost cried. The food was jot very good everywhere we went, pizza was wait and get so so pizza, took forever to get items replaced when they ran out in the buffet, the hot stuff was cold, the cold stuff was luke warm, and the couldnt even cook the eggs correctly, and the guy running the omlets was too busy foing too many things and talking to coworkers to do things properly, took my pager and then went on to fo other things while I stood waiting, then wanted to know why I was standing there, and then When I said he needed my food, and gabe him the number from the pager, he handed it to me like I was a bother, yet he just forgot to give it to me, but he also couldnt be bothered to apologize at all. And if you do not cash out your bank at the casino, it doesnt go back on your account, you would lose it, so make sure you cash out your casino bank. After 11pm, nothing available except a small cafe with limited pre-made items and coffee for a fee, no activities except the nightclub. Tried to go to the stargazing, sorry, we dont have enough equipment, maybe next time. Next time not in a heated dungeon with horrible staff from the dark ages... people on the ship who have taken Princess before have said it was not like this before, but I dont think I will ever do another Princess cruise again. I guess taking my money to keep the princess in her jewels is all they do! I cant see why anyone would take a Princess cruise based on this experience. Read Less

This was the first time and the last time we will ever cruise with Princess. We were on the Caribbean Princess. Our toilet wreaked of urine and the sink water as well!! The balcony furniture was broken. The staff refused to replace the broken furniture. We found a shopping list to a girls mom from 2018 under one bed because I pulled a mattress out from the wall looking for a remote. It had a ton of trash and candy under that bed. The bathroom shower had lots of cracks in it and the floor grout has darkened from probably water and algae (grime). We slept pretty well because of the nonstop vibration and rocking of the ship! Thankfully I don’t get seasick! They showed a movie twice on the “movie under the stars”! All of the movies they showed had been out for months! I gifted this cruise to my dad and my best friend. My dad had never been on a cruise. I’m disappointed that this is his memory of what a cruise is supposed to be like. We’re going to Hawaii next!!! ON A CARNIVAL CRUISE SHIP!! Yes I know carnival owns Princess but they operate so very differently. Also, the Bahamian waters were cold! The water animals refused to show up!! People were just really disappointed! Yes I know they can’t warm the waters or call in the sea turtles. But it put a damper on everyone’s moods. This ship needs an overhaul on the interior badly!! The waitstaff has zero personality! All but one! This cruise was a disaster!!!!!! There isn’t a live band on deck throughout your cruise! So there is absolutely zero feel of the Caribbean!! Read Less

Wow what a disappointment! I read the reviews before booking and dismissed the negative ones thinking they were exaggerating. They weren’t. This was the worst cruise of the five I’ve taken. Biggest disappointment was the customer service and appearance of the ship in general. I finally figured out why the staff doesn’t seem to care: there’s a mandatory daily gratuity charged per person so they have no incentive to treat you like “royalty”. $13.50 per person per day - I don’t remember being told about this. So staff is being tipped regardless of service and it shows. This cruise was severely understaffed. The wait at the bar for a simple Diet Coke was maddening. Not one time at the pool did a waiter come around asking for drink orders. Always always had to go get it myself at the bar. Didn’t even have soda in the buffet, had to leave to go to the bar to fill my cup. I bought the soda pass which meant I had to carry around that big cup all the time to have it refilled. I was “upgraded” without being asked to an oceanview. The view was of a lifeboat. It’s laughable. I would rather have kept my interior stateroom. Buffet was unremarkable at best - never once thought wow this is delicious. It was just food. Tables were always dirty - again understaffed and couldn’t keep up with all the people eating there. Tried the dining room once and again not impressed. I really expected this cruise to be like the ones in the past where I just felt pampered and everyone was nice and friendly and happy. Not this crew. I felt like I was imposing more often than not. Our safe in the room quit working after a few days. We just laughed and thought well of course it doesn’t work. They claim this ship was refurbished. What the hell did it look like BEFORE?? It’s so dated that I felt like I’d been had. Harry Potter trivia was an event we attended - it was like a twelve year old’s mom threw together some questions and had us all sit around guessing the answers on paper and boom it was over. Twenty questions and that’s it. Pencil and paper. I mean come ON Princess. It was just pitiful. I heard other people talking and the same thing was being said. Not as good as other cruise lines. I will never again sail with Princess and will go back to Royal Caribbean where they know how to treat their customers and keep the ship clean and the food amazing. Princess is substandard and even smelled of raw sewage towards the end of the cruise. I was glad when it was over actually which is a sad testimony given the money spent. Read Less

Wanted to get away! Found the ship very disappointing with everything, our cabin and the steward that was assigned to our room. The Buffett were disappointing, had frozen little shrimp INSTEAD of REAL shrimp! At the pool I had a problem with moving a chair, the attendants wouldn’t help me. 730 one morning there was construction going on for an hour. The front desk was called and I was told it had to b looked into! Going away to relax and get rest, not to hear drilling on the ship! The cabins are made for small people. Murphy beds on each side. So quite difficult getting into our beds, so we had to crawl from bottom up I have been on princesses before, and was very upset the way everything was handled. I asked the front desk to compensate us for us be awakened up by drilling, ask for internet, I was told they aren’t allowed to do such, but made NO attempt to do anything. The ship needs a redone, although I c it was redone 2017. Where I don’t know! The ship is pretty large, not enough people to guide u to wherever location u had to go too. The food was just ok even in island dining room! The best food was at international cafe on 5th floor, ate there often. Not enough activities at the pool location. None in fact Read Less

Only port of interest was short timed grand cayman while other long timed ports had most folk aboard hours before we left. The ship iis showing its age despite things like changing drapery, big screen tv and newish carpeting. Food quality and quantity in special rest. has changed not for the better. Sabatini has gone from an abudonza italian rest to a milanese cafeteria.. The ports are for most part princess compounds and are about the same as being on ship for shopping or eating. Most tours are not for easy or handicapped status and for those of you feel that we should not complain about this, we pay the same as you vibrant healthy folk do. Took Caribbean Princess on Jan 2, 2018 Panama Canal Cruise. 5th cruise on Princess, 9th overall. Everything as expected except condition of ship. Expected better as ship was 8 million revitalization in 2017. Excessive engine vibration noticeable throughout ship. Never felt a ship vibrate so much before. Very bad in Palm dining room. Was informed ship due for dry dock in April 2019 to fix. If they had a proper condition assessment program vibration problem might have been known at time of 2017 revitalization. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SHIP TO ANYONE BEFORE VIBRATION PROBLEM FIXED. Also seems to impact power available for air conditioning at times. Guests who paid $4,000 for canine could not sleep because of vibration and lack of air conditioning in room. Were told that they should have spent more on a better cabin if they expected to be moved. Another cabin was flooded and were reimbursed for destroyed clothing and offered free cleaning. Hallway nearby (on port side of deck 8, wet for almost entire trip, squishy sound when you walked through. It smelled moldy for a couple of days There were faint sewerage smells in our cabin, hallway and in one of the elevators. Not all the time, but enough to notice, and we weren't the only ones with problem. Were told to call when it occurred and had to wait over half hour for someone to come. Elevator with smell was eventually shut down. Iced tea undrinkable and coffee dispensers and ice machines out of service. There was a band aid on smoke detector in room holding it together? Rug on steps to Princess Theater fairly new but not at right height, lower than rest of step (two height levels in each step, front part higher than carpet) seem easy to trip on if not careful. Should not have been allowed unsafe. Similar issue in other areas, rugs lower than surfaces they abut to. Read Less

This was my second cruise with Princess. Both times I was on the conferences, so it was partly paid, but this one did not worse time I invested. First of, ship is very boring. Literally nothing going on aboard. If you want to get to the theater, you have to take you sit at least an hour before the show start. Their medalion program is absolute failure - my medallion stopped to open door for the last 2 days of the cruse (fortunately, my wife medallion still worked). The best medallion feature is that you can find your partner on the ship, but there is trick involved. If you used particular wall devise once, it will always show you location of your partner as you saw it the first time. Always! So, to get true actual location you have to find new previously unused device. Errors and trials took me some time to figure that out. Feature, not bug. Our ship was always late on every destination. As result we were waiting for the ship 1.5 hours in the bus returning from one excursion - only to wait for another 1.5 hours in the bus next day to go to next (both provided by the Princess). Since were were late again, excursion was postponed and due to series of miscommunication (Princess was responsible) we were waiting for hours in the bus. The best pert of the cruise suppose to be Cayman island. But we were LATE and all the boats provided by the Cayman port of authority to land were busy to serve ships which come earlier (Carnival and Royal Caribean were fast enough). Our captain did not want to use ourown boats to land, so he moves as fast as he could to the open seas directly to the North. Not only were deprived of Cayman Island experience - in 2 hours were were northern enough near Cuba with ~70 F outside temperature and cold wind, so that no one could be outside. Could we at least stay near Cayman Island where it was warm and sunny? Oh well, list of complains will be too long. Summary: very boring and mismanaged cruise, I want my money back. Read Less

The Bad : Ship shakes under sail and unbelievably worse in port, especially annoying when you are dining. Common areas good condition but we had hit and miss cabins this fall and winter, some ok and some awful condition. Ship staff said they can’t update the rooms without a dry dock and the company keeps putting that off. Personally had and witnessed some negative interactions with the Guest Services Staff. As typical of the brand no built in activies for active adults and children. Just off a Christmas cruise on another ship of the brand, many families cruising and the young people were bored out of their minds. Royal Caribbean, Carnival or Norwegian would have been a better choice for a family vacation. The Good: The company has invested in Internet upgrades for this ship. Room and Dining staff generally excellent as is usual throughout the brand. Food quality and selection was on par with the brand and far superior to Royal Caribbean. Read Less

Itineraries and price led us to this princess cruse, our 5th cruse in 2 years. We have been on 3 other cruse lines. Princess was the worst. Other passengers told us in the past the food was better. Princess has a lot of return customers largely due to there loyalty program. Many said they have not been on other cruse lines. Food on the buffet was always the same for breakfast. Lunch was mostly the same except the main entree. I got the impression a lot of the foods were pre prepared or frozen. The new medallion program did not always work due to computer problems and it must’ve cost a lot because it seems the cruise line cut back in there food quality. Caribbean Princess is a bit older launched in 2004. The crew was nice but they’re service was not as good as other cruse lines we have been on. Read Less

1st time sailing with Princess, and it is the last. They said we were the inaugural sailing with the medallions, which in my opinion are a bother and did not work well - AT ALL. Ours broke mid-cruise and they asked for it and didn't return it for a day and a half. You can still use your card, and call out a four digit number (and yes everyone can hear it) to a waiter/waitress, who sometimes would take our card, and not give it back unless you go and find them, and it. The room was average, (Dolphin Deck) and not kept as clean as I would like. The cabin steward was impersonal an not friendly, and was borderline creepy. We think the steward took my wife's meds from our room, and the thumb drive I had, had been copied as we immediately got tons of new kinds of spam as soon as we got home. Should have kept that on my person. The food was ok (really, just ok, everywhere) Although we didn't try the Crown Grill steak house. We did try the Steamers Seafood (average at best) and Planks BBQ where the service was the best on the ship. Regular dining was a joke, and the service was below average. We checked our bill at guest services the last night before arrival into home part and it was about $350.00, which was about right, on the last day we left the cabin, a paper was rolled up, and places outside our cabin in the handle. It stated that we owed the cruise line over $985.00, mostly for drinks (my wife and I do drink, and did drink, but nowhere close to that much), the cruise line dismissed our dispute stating the medallion could not have made any mistakes (we only used the medallion once at the bar to purchase drinks) and the rest of the time we used our key card by stating (out loud) our 4 digit number on the card. Bad trip, bad experiences, sub-standard, unclean room and swindled on the high seas too. I am a cruise veteran and know what I am talking about. Stay far away form ANY Carnival cruise line ship, they have certainly have lowered the overall cruising standards and give little or no quality or decent service anymore. I was made to feel I was trying to take advantage of the cruise line, and as an executive for another travel provider (yes, you know who) - I was aghast at the service, food and subsequent treatment by Carnival Cruise lines. And - never, ever again. Read Less

My wife and I cruised exclusively on Princess for many years and stayed on cruise ships months at a time. Needless to say we reached the Elite level some time ago. One of my favorite cruise ships was the old Caribbean Princess (before renovation) ugly ice cream cone and all. The food on that ship was very good. We recently took a 10 day cruise and were pleasantly surprised by the new renovation. The crew and service were terrific as usual. The new layout, decor and amenities of the Caribbean Princess were a joy to see. The cabin spacious and spotless and there are no shortage of entertainment day and night. However when we reached the buffet we were dismayed at the selection and quality of food time and again. It was by far the worst eating experience on a Princess cruise ever. Most of the meat was served stuffed with something, MeatLoaf, stuffed pork, stuffed lamb and even stuffed chicken. Sandwiches are plentiful if you want one for lunch or dinner. Cold stuffed lamb was served in a cheap gray paper plate, meatless spaghetti sauce in a jar and self service wine and beer machines. You get the drift. It is all about cutting cost and in this case to a fault. As a stock holder of CCL and frequent cruiser, I hope the food offering on the Caribbean does not become the norm on other Princess ships since I heard plenty of complaints from fellow passengers. The ship has been refurbished and the buffet has been cut down to a third of standard because Princess has two (2) new specialty restaurants (of course additional fee). The buffet has a picnic theme, subs and ready for this...at dinner...PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY SANDWICHES...unbelievable! One guest we met onboard is a professional chef in Las Vegas and he said he will never sail with Princess again. Let’s talk about the dining room experiences, the staff are so busy serving multiple tables that it takes hours (and we timed it on 2 separate occasions) to order, receive your dinner and dessert, needless to say if you wanted to catch the show in the Princess theatre you were forced to exit early. The shows were mediocre with the EXCEPTION of BRAVO, that presentation was what Princess theatre productions were 10 years ago. The comedian one night was so pathetic, my husband and I felt sorry for him and he was the talk of the guests for days. In summary the consensus amongst the guests we met in various locations and my husband and I are a huge disappointing 10 day experience. A number of guests we met this is their first cruise and they traveled from the UK and hugely disappointed, they won’t be back... Rey sad. Read Less

The food in the dining room did not taste good and there was not much variety on the menu each night. On past cruises we have been on the service in the dining room was normally excellent, on this cruise we waited for quite a while on our food and had to ask for drink refills. In order to have good food you had to go to one of the restaurants with the cover charge. I was also disappointed in the lack of entertainment while at sea on sea days. The majority of the entertainment was trying to buy something. We were also supposed to have four ports of call and one of our ports was cancelled before the cruise began without any explanation. This was my first cruise with Princess and as a result of my experience, it will definitely be my last. Prior to booking, I had this impression that Princess was an elite cruising brand. I expected more of them than I would a Carnival, Norwegian or Royal Caribbean cruise line. I could not have been more wrong. Let's start with the PROS since its a short list. PROS: Embarkation - Princess is very organized. I was on the ship in less than 20 minutes from my arrival to the pier. I have NEVER gotten on a ship that fast before. There was no haggling to buy onboard packages and no pressure to take pictures. It was the most quickest, easiest embarkation I have ever experienced. Shore Excursions - I really liked that while the Excursions desk was not always manned that they had iPads at the desk so I could book excursions during their non-operating hours. I struggled whether to add this to the CONS list really, because the Excursions desk was closed before and during our sail away period, but I do like that I had this as an option. I like to book my excursions as soon as I get on the ship. I later learned I could have booked them in my room via the TV. Entertainment - I really enjoyed some of the musical talent on this ship. I learned of some new artistic gems like George Thursting that I now follow through social media. Love them. Folks, that's where my PROS list ends. Let's dive into everything that made this cruise horrible and left me vowing to NEVER cruise with Princess again. CONS: Bed Bug (in Room B249) - I usually don't sleep much, if at all, the night before a cruise, because I am busy packing and getting my house (and life) prepared for my extensive departure, so I usually make up for that sleep the first night on the ship. This cruise was no exception. I grabbed a bite to eat and booked my excursions once I got on board and I headed straight to my room to snooze. After we set sailed, I got up to grab something out of my bag and when I returned to the bed I noticed what looked like a bed bug crawling over the duvet cover. I screamed! I ran outside where the cabin steward was. He came in looking embarrassed, but not surprised, and scooped the bug into a glass jar. I was mortified. All I could think was how grateful I was that I had not unpacked yet. I did NOT want to take any of these critters home with me. I hear bed bugs are horrible to get rid of. I went straight to the reception desk to report it. Its the first night, so there's a long line. I patiently wait. When I get to the line, the service desk rep (Ignacio and Aracelli) said there was not much they could do besides send someone to investigate and clean the room since the ship was sold out. They did not offer me some place to sit or rest at during this 2-hour investigation. They did not offer me a complimentary beverage or meal. They did not apologize for the inconvenience. They did nothing, but "investigate." I stood on the side of the reception desk for 2 hours exhausted. I finally got back in line to see if there was an update, since NO ONE spoke to me during those 2 hours and only after I got back in line did someone call to check on the "investigation" and that's when I was told they were done and they did not find anything else (meaning another bug). For all I know, the investigation could have been completed an hour earlier. I return to my room alone. Visibly shaken, they did not offer to escort me to my room to reassure me and show me their findings. No one was there when I arrived. It was hours later when the cabin steward supervisor and my cabin steward returned to tell me the supervisor found nothing. I asked if I would be able to get checked by medical - something the front desk rep said I would be able to get as a courtesy to check for bed bug bites - and the supervisor told me NO. He said the ship doctor is not like a doctor on land, they're expensive, so I would have to pay for this myself. Um... OK! I was done after this. Done. He treated me like I was an inconvenience. Very hostile. I never unpacked my bag. I kept it closed the entire cruise and I checked my room for bed bugs each and every day. I tried not to let this ruin my trip cuz then I would definitely be on the losing end. I tried to make the best of it. Ship - Its old. Real old. Very dated. There's rust, mildew and mold everywhere. While I stood in line at the guest desk, I noticed there were multiple leaks from the ceiling. Also, the layout makes no sense. They give each deck a name. For example: Deck # 11 is named Baja and Deck # 15 is named Lido. Instead of referring to the deck number, you had to learn the deck names, because that is how they were referenced. It was so cooky. Then there were only so many elevator banks. I believe there were three or four for the entire ship and one or two of those only went to a few floors. There were no machines for people to add money to their room card/key. Everything went through the very incompetent guest desk. And they had to escalate everything. No one at the desk could make a decision at their level. No one was empowered to just do common sense things for guests. While I waited for my bed bug investigation, I heard a man with Platinum Level Status get upset over his beverage package and how someone screwed it up. I stood there thinking: If this guy is a loyal Princess cruiser and they treat him like that, how should I expect them to treat me? Not good, folks. Not good. Dining - I actually like the seating in the buffet dining areas. I liked that there were pub seating that looked directly out the window, so if you're a party of one you're only taking one seat and not an entire table. That's where my likes end. The food options were very limited and buffet small. It was about one-third of the size of the buffet area on the average Norwegian ship. Horrible! I made due, but I was just shocked. In Conclusion: The pros definitely did not outweigh the cons. I cannot justify the cost of the average Princess cruise for me to try the brand again. Outside of wanting to experience the Princess brand, I really chose this sailing because it was going to the ABC islands and it was full of smart at sea days. Heed my warnings. If nothing else, stay away from this ship unless you've cruised it before and know what to expect. Read Less
