This review is on the cruise itself and not the ports. I have been on many cruises and this was the worst ever. We know that princess caters to the older crowd but with 4 days at sea on Thanksgiving week you would think that there would be one activity by the pool for those of us not in retirement age? Nope, It was very obvious that they did this to discourage people from being at the pool and so they would be inside spending money on the stores, casino and art auction. There was no music at the pools and they were intentionally not heated for this purpose. When you walked around the ship the only lively venues were the casino and art auction. They push the shopping so much it was part of the variety show. The variety show was a music number, the shopping director and a bad comedian making racist jokes about Filipino cabin stewards. I have never seen such a thing. No music is playing at any of the bars, crazy. Our room steward wouldn't come half the time when paged and when he did he always reminded us that his shift was ending soon. Not good. We also had poor service in the restaurants, getting cut by guest because they spoke the same language as the head waiter. When my husband spoke up the hostess acted guilty and scrambled to get us a table. I spoke to the guest services and went up three levels of management and all I received was a cheap bottle of wine that I had to approve before receiving, if I didn't they weren't even going to send that!! If you have a problem with a guest send up a bottle of champagne ASAP. So incredibly tacky. I felt like my intelligence was insulted multiple times and was shown that they don't value my business. The ship was nice enough. The food was mediocre at best, except in the restaurants that charged extra. There were very few activities by comparison to other cruises I've been on. If you didn't want to gamble, you had very few decent choices. Princess used to have Scholars at Sea, which was very interesting. The entertainment was fair. They had pretty good singers, but the shows themselves were not all that interesting. The cabin itself was okay, but this particular cabin had an almost totally obstructed balcony. The casino was the biggest rip-off ever! You could lose your money in a few minutes, with very few payouts that were of any consequence at all. It's also a very small casino, too small for the 200+ casino VIPs. I have been on many Princess cruises and have been very loyal to them in the past, but I won't go on another one. Read Less

It was an absolutely terrible experience. This is not a knock on the crew, they were fabulous. The cruise line's policies and actions towards guests is deplorable. My cabin was on the lowest deck, just above the ship's cargo hold. The crew was excellent at making a lot of noise during sleep hours. When the door was opened to allow the harbor pilot to board the ship, the noise was totally out of control. This was not restful at 0600. The cruise line's policy on wifi is atrocious. No complete package for continuous usage. There are no wine packages, although the wine is fairly prices. Their drink packages are outragesous, $56 per day, plus gratuit, and then only up to a preset value. Their customer service department in California only offered the words, "sorry" and then said that they weren't the cruise line for us. Complete indifference. Lastly, the ship was in sorry shape, lots of rust and pieces missing along the rails the entire voyage. Read Less

We took the 10 day Princess cruise from NYC to Quebec and had not been on Princess in quite a few years (our last trip being 10 days in the carribean on Princess). We selected this cruise because it was a relatively cheap one from NYC. Big mistake, we got what we paid for. My overall impression was that Princess has declined since our last 10 day cruise. The ship was described to us by another passenger as a "Wal-Mart experience". The ship was apparently trying to save money by cutting corners on food and entertainment. The food was mediocre. We ate in the main dining room the first night and the food---if it improved----might work its way up to a rating of "poor:. (I've had better meals at Cracker Barrel, which is not know for haute cuisine.) On our first and only night in the main dining room the food was not haute, it was not even hot. We should have been tipped off when the salad was pathetically small and consisted of old looking lettuce with 3 or 4 pathetic croutons. It looked like something you might try to palm off on a starving rabbit. We complained about the poor food and left, never to return to the main dining room. We immediately raised our complaints with the service staff managers. I've had better conversations with a stuffed owl. The first level manager said he could not do anything about it and the upper level manager's only suggestion was to keep going to the main dining room.....presumably in the hope that the food would improve over time. The poor customer service response from the "customer service" staff was the most disheartening---we met with the service director who provided no real help and started showing more of an interest after we sent an email from the ship complaining to their corporate headquarters. At the end of the day, several emails to the head of hotel operations and/or the chief customer service officer of the cruise line produced nothing much in the way of results. Despite assurances that things would improve, they never did and, quite frankly, the folks of the ship seemed disinterested in trying "to make things right." I even suggested to the manager in a face-to-face conversation that what she should be doing was asking us "what can I do to make things right"....a question that never passed her lips. At the end of the voyage, and after more emailed complaints, we were given the name of a contact person in their corporate office.... I purposefully waited a month to see if we would ever hear anything from Princess----and we never heard a peep. In fact, they never even sent us a customer evaluation form. On the last night, they did leave us a cheap bottle of wine in our room with a note saying that we should view the wine as a token of their efforts. Actually, i agreed with that characterization which equated the wine with the quality of their efforts, since it was a cheap bottle of Italian wine---which we returned unopened. I checked on line when i got home and I think it costs about ten bucks a bottle retail. That pretty much says it all about Princess and their customer service efforts. Thanks for the thought. A few other cruisers we spoke with (who had been on other lines) also had complaints about food. One woman told us her lamb could not be cut with a knife. Another told us that she thought Princess had been skimping on food for some time and was setting it's standards for the Carnival Cruise Line crowd who did not know any better and who would be happy with beer, beans and corn dogs. In our experience, Celebrity is a superior cruise line and a much better value for the higher price. My impression of this cruise was that Princess might be a cut above Carnival, but was more of a second rate experience even for a third tier cruise line. To us, it was on food and entertainment where they were trying to save money and it showed.. It's probably a good enough trip if you want to take a cheaper cruise, don't care all that much about the food and don't mind waiting in line to sign up for excursions and the like. (one line was 30 - 40 minutes long because the excursion staff were only around limited hours.) For a better experience, if you know much about cruises, I'd suggest Celebrity. For first time cruisers, it's probably ok because you won't know any better. Read Less

We chose this cruise to explore alternative ways to cross the Atlantic to the U.S.A. The Caribbean Princess comes a very poor second to Cunard's Queen Mary 2 in all comparisons. Space: The ship felt cramped and claustrophobic on the sea days.. the restaurants have very low ceilings, consequently the noise of normal conversation becomes deafening The balcony stateroom was smaller and we could overlook the balconies of the (more expensive) suites on lower decks. Class System! Your name and 'cruise status' is displayed outside your cabin... we were 'noobies'... it being our first Princess cruise. This was also identified on our plastic ID/payment cards. We never did find out why people aspired to gain 'Elite' status... awarded through repeated cruises.. but clearly this was something to be desired and displayed as we saw passengers who'd bought lanyards on which to hang their 'Elite' ID card. It reminded us of 'The Fast Show... We are richer than you ....' Hygiene: there's lots of evidence of how easily the Norovirus can spread in confined spaces and it came as no surprise to us that Princess' ships top the league table for Norovirus outbreaks. There were hand sanitation chemical dispensers outside each eating area but staff were not encouraging passengers to use them and not challenging them when they didn't. We witnessed several incidents of unsanitary actions by supervisors. Food: This seemed to be aimed at people whose only dining experience was the 'shopping mall food court'. Examples of how food was 'dummed down' included grilling the 'Eggs Benedict' so the Hollandaise sauce would be cooked enough; coating Lemon sole in breadcrumbs and deep frying it, and underseasoning everything. Entertainment: There are few opportunities for learning new things.. we were lucky enough to meet Allen Taylor who presented a series of fascinating lectures on Astronomy. If we hadn't met him at dinner the blurb in the daily list of activities wouldn't have 'sold' his unique skills to us. His lectures were an oasis of intellectual stimulation in a desert of entertainment filled with 'musak' stage shows and old movies. The advertised book club sessions never materialised, we wonder how many other people had bought the book before the cruise? Upselling: This is aggressive and happens almost continuously... we expected photo opportunities but not, so called, 'Irish Coffee' at every meal. To have a tray, with two glasses filled with plastic cream topped with a cherry, thrust under your nose was disconcerting and then extremely irritating. The trips we took were over priced and wrongly described. In Rotterdam the Delft factory trip left so late that the advertised shopping trip commenced after the shops had closed... the guide had not been briefed about the mobility issues of some of the participants.. leaving it up to us to find the step free access at the factory. The mark-up that Princess adds to the trip costs is excessive.. the scenic train journey in Flam (Norway) could easily be booked online and cost 80% less if you arranged it yourself. Will we go on another Princess cruise... No! Read Less

The ship should go into dry dock permanently!!! This was the worst cruise I have taken. Ship is extremely old, the carpets dirty and musty. The ship broke down at sea, communication on the status could of been better. We missed 2 ports of call Dublin due to a mechanical problem and Orkney Islands because of weather. The cabins are very small, shower stalls good for a child not an adult. Dining room staff were not attentive, food served cold. Buffet had a better selection. Activities were few and far between. Entertainment was great. Ports of call were fabulous. I would never sail with Princess again. Service Staff at the front desk were not knowledgeable or seemed to care. Temperature in hot tub was warm, asked to have it fix 3 times and it never happened. Buffet staff were not attentive, we had to remove our own plates from the tables. Read Less

The British Isles was chosen due to the ports it offered and because a past Princess cruise through the Panama Canal was wonderful. Embarkation was easy and quick. But it went downhill from there. The Caribbean Princess is not equipped to sail cooler climates. With expected rain and cooler temperatures in the British Isles, the pools and outdoor areas could not be used because of the lack of retractable roof therefore making all the common areas inside constantly noisy and crowded. There was not one quiet space to be found. The "library" was inside the internet cafe and consisted of one wall of books with 4 chairs which faced the computers desks, neither a quiet space nor comfortable. The Caribbean Princess is in need of a refurbishing with worn, outdated accommodations. It is not equipped to accommodate the number of passengers it carries. There was countless searching for a table in the buffet with mediocre food. The staff is surly and rarely, if ever, smile making passengers feel as if they were a bother to be served. The dining room menu was limited with much the same every night. Communication is poor. PA announcements were in the hall and could not be heard in the cabins. Announcements were made by heavily accented staff which made it extremely difficult to understand anything. Passengers were nickle and dimed at every turn. Passengers were charged to use the shuttle to get off the pier. Coffee and pastries (free in the buffet) cost extra if bought in the International Cafe. A constant barrage of junk was displayed in the atrium every day. The theater was not large enough to fit all the passengers making it necessary to arrive at least 30 minutes before a show to secure a seat - passengers missed the shows due to this. Shows were fair. The Spa was a far cry from serene; had to ask for a robe on 2 appointments, then given one that could have fit 2 people as well as slippers that were made for a giant. The waiting room was uncomfortable with chairs that were well worn. On board account was charged days before service was performed - unacceptable. Cancelled the 3rd appointment I had - a total waste of money. Disembarkation (9:15am) was easy and quick. If cruising the British Isles is on your list, you are advised to look at other cruise lines. Princess Cruise Lines has gone downhill. We will never again cruise Princess. Read Less

We were very excited about our first cruise which has probably turned out to be our last. There are parts of cruising my wife and I simply do not enjoy. Mainly the crowds, the limited exposure to an area - only getting a short stay at any given location. The experience would have been greatly enhanced if the the Princess Cruise line ran the cruises by thinking of the passengers instead of their bottom line. I am a CPA so I completely understand the line trying to get the extra dollar; for drinks, photos, gambling and various other items. We knew that going in and have no problem with it. I can even understand the somewhat low rent art sales presentation, although I think that borders a bit on the fraudulent side. What I do have a problem with is poor management. To list a few of the problem areas: 1. They cut costs on food and food preparation. In the buffet the potatoes were instant as were some of the eggs. They kept everything in warming trays longer than they should have. Real eggs should be a bit warmer than room temperature. Toast at room temperature is just not fun. Oatmeal should not be a soup. The dining room meals were not quite as bad as the buffet but they constantly kept trying to save money by cutting portions, poor quality food. They also did drink promotions were they were pushing Bailey Irish Cream then serving a lesser priced alternative. 2, Communication was very weak. As a first time cruiser I expected some sort of meeting or TV video, something, anything to explain many of the nuances of cruising that us new people need to get value from what we paid. The passengers were more than 90% English speaking but trying to communicate with someone who had problems with the language only makes it worse. I was talking to an individual at the front desk on the phone that I could not understand and asked to speak with someone who spoke I could understand and the answer was NO. The day you arrive on the boat you get a brochure called the Patter, it looked like there was no place open for breakfast. On my first call they confirmed that was correct. I called again and it turns out - no breakfast on day of embarkation but the Patter we would get that night would show when they were open for breakfast. I asked where I could get bottled water, the answer was all around the ship. I never considered the Bar areas as a place to get water so I went several days without, until I figured it out. 3. Room service was not bad for their limited menu and I do mean limited. Also our suite did not have a compete listing of items available ( a printing error in the manual). When I called to ask I was told the six items I did have listed were all there was - again the communication thing. 4. They advertise their Princess@Sea connection. This product is not ready for prime time. It is extremely slow, and most of us had to go to the Internet cafe to get help setting up. Directions just did not work. Their are a ton of other operational issues I could mention here but it is just a poor product. If you do set up texting with other passengers do not expect to get a notification or sound or vibration to let you know it is there. 5. The ships management apparently doesn't like dealing with passengers. There is no one to talk to for problem resolution except the lowest level of staff who only follow instructions and cannot deal with special circumstances. 6. On disembarkation, I called and was told it would be handled in a particular manner and made plans accordingly then discovered that information was wrong. 7. Medical - There was a flu outbreak on the ship (cannot blame the ship for that - I guess) but they kept limited hours of availability to the Medical Staff and frankly did not provide the best in terms of medical care. Some got antibiotics some did not. 8. Port Canceled - The main reason we took this trip was to visit Normandy and would not have taken if not on the itinerary. We found out two days before landing that it was canceled due to a dock strike. This was certainly frustrating but unavoidable - we thought. It turns out this strike had been going on for three weeks and they never bothered to inform there future passengers. It certainly would have made a difference to us if we had know, we could have made alternative plans to see Normandy after the cruise or gotten off where we docked (last day of cruise). It is my strongest recommendation you do not use Princess for any future cruises. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary which Princess offered. Mainly the Normandy Beach excursion. I booked off ship excursions which I recommend. Food was below average. Service in the main dining rooms were very slow and not impressive as advertised by Princess. Did enjoy the Horizon court, however finding a table was mission impossible at times. Did enjoy the Pizza and the service by the workers. Our cabin was kept clean by our very nice cabin steward and well as the service through out the ship especially in Churchill Lounge was excellent. We complained to our cabin steward about the hard as a rock bed and he made it a little more comfortable with a mattress pad. We arrived on time to all the ports except for Le Havre/France. 2 Days before we were to embark on the port, that we were looking forward to, (the only reason I booked with Princess), the captain announced that we were not going to port due to a strike. Might I add that this is not the first time this year this has happened. My issue with Princess, is that they knew this ahead of time and we should have been given some kind of warning. I would have loved the opportunity to re-schedule our cruise ,as this is a ONCE in a lifetime opportunity for us. I will never again sail with Princess because of the reasons stated above. They are guilty of Fraud as far as I am concerned. They knew ahead of time that they could not offer this shore excursion as advertised. Food was very below average. And entertainment was below average. Seemed like all they offered on the ship, and pushed, were Art Work, Jewelry sales, Pictures, and productions at Princess Theater that were also below average. There were a few sales, one that offered Caribbean cruise things and a British Isle sale that offered T-shirts made in China. Really!!! Debbie in Tennessee Read Less

public bathrooms were messy, expect to get your own coffee, tea, water in buffet, long lines for anytime dining on certain nights, very disorganized and very little to do. Our table talked about how bad it was, and then someone said they are owned by Carnival, enough said. BTW even the casino was bad, the tournaments were a joke. The black jack tournament was $20.00 to enter and you had to have a certain score to win. I made it to the final table and received a t-shirt. That was not the problem. The problem is they took in at least 2000.00 dollars and only paid out 500.00 to the winner no second place. I have been on over 20 cruises and this by far was the worse. A person at our table one night said he volunteered to give a talk on NASA after noticing their was nothing much to do. The only night that had good entertainment was when Steve Moris was on stage. The employees seemed not to care and you know that comes from the stop down. I thought I was the only one that felt that this cruise was a waste of money. I soon found out it was on everyone's mind. I met a woman who was on a cruise for the first time. She was appalled at the service and Princess and she will never go on another cruise. Too bad her first experience was on Princess. Read Less

We thought we done a lot of research before choosing our cruise and travelling from Sydney Australia with my Adult sons and their partners to Houston Texas. Well were we wrong!!!! Before I criticise this ship I would like to point out we have done over 20 cruises, mainly in Australia and Europe with RCCL & NCL, so what I have to say is only compared to what we have done in the past. The ship on their website sounds and looks fantastic, we I can say its not like the Brochure, not even close. The ship is just old and worn. to be honest we are really at a loss to understand how people who have cruised before can rate this ship as being remotely good. There is just far too many rooms compared to public area and entertainment or things to do, there is very little to do on this ship, watch a movie!!! The worst part for us was how the ship catered for the very Elderly, it was almost a floating Nursing home, No fault to the people on the ship and I have all the respect in the world for the elderly but, they really should state this and point out its caters for over 70s, I also admit my travel agent should have known. When you spend the money we spent travelling from the other side of the world i do think you have a right to complain on a site like this and hope they take notice, considering we had taken on young adults who had nothing at all to do, nothing!!!! The entertainment was pathetic to say the least. The other point to note was the food, it was not good and well below average, on the other hand the two the speciality dinning rooms were quite good, the Buffet dinning was the same every day and not good at all, it was Gross. It was very obvious they were cost cutting and knew the elderly were maybe not too fussy or tend to complain? Being self employed I had to use the internet, you get 600 minutes for $200, yes there was No unlimited package and it was sllooowww!! It cost me $600 in 7 days and I just refused to spend anymore. Also tipping was included and you don't get a paper receipt, so you need to keep track on a daily basis for your whole family, its just backwards and out of date. They clearly advertised for suite guest you get to use the Spa services, steam rooms etc. When we arrived to use this we were told No and you need to pay them $90 to use the facilities, I refused to pay.. Next to the Spa area is a smaller pool and just above this it has an area with nice padded chairs, it looked very nice But, sadly you had to pay $20 for half a days use, Yes suite guest cannot use this area without paying. And for the record, in the entire time we were on the ship I did not see one person use this area, 3 staff standing around all day doing nothing... Quite bizarre to say the least, but again zero care from anyone,. We decided to leave the ship on day 8 in Mexico, we simply could not last another day, it was depressing, it was a floating Nursing Home and the staff knew this, in fact they said this ship is know for it, and due to the heavily discounted tickets everything was cut back, simply the elderly people just don't spend money so they just keep it simply and cut costs, regardless what you pay or what room you stay in. Because we decided to leave the ship we had a visit from one of the senior lady managers, she came to our room and asked why and I simply told here what I have noted here, she also said the ship is know for a much older crowd, She also said she would fix the issue with using the spa and call us back when she spoke with the spa people, Well like everything else on this ship, It never happened, No care from anyone and a very depressed ship. Maybe the Spa was contracted out?? All I can say to people wanting a cruise is to stay clear from this ship, I have been told since Princess are known for the much older crowd and specialise for this on most of their ships. I can say for Value and entertainment RCCL & NCL runs rings around them, there is just No real comparison. If you are under 70 years of age just go elsewhere, terrible ship with no care and No after sales service, there is just No one at Princess you can call write to or contact. The No care Cruise Company... Read Less

First, a caveat. I assume a lot of people like Princess. After two cruises, we do not. We are Celebrity Elite status cruisers and find Princess no match for Celebrity. So, maybe my comments will help others who are not sure what line to go with, to make a decision based on this information. Getting on and off were fine. The food was good, except I felt the beef items from hamburgers to steaks were not top quality. The Horizon Cafe has a low ceiling and is not a very pleasant place to eat, nor is the way the buffet is laid out very convenient. The staff was fine - good, hardworking folks. #1 - The Fitness Center is above a deck of cabins, so one cannot use the treadmills until 8 am and must stop at 10 pm. #2 - Scoops Ice Cream only has runny soft serve. Traditional hard ice cream is not served. The place itself is not attractive or enticing. #3 - There are no veranda rooms with a third bed on the floor. Those rooms only have upper berths. You have to go to a mini-suite to have a 3rd bed. #4 - Smoking in the Casino wafts into the Princess Theater, stinking up the place. #5 - Milk, no matter where served, is not cold. They do not have stainless steel refrigerated dispensers. #6 - Cocoa packets are not offered at the coffee/tea/water bars. #7 - The TV was mounted kitty-corner on a shelf above the fridge. From sitting in the bed, you have to extend your arm to change the channel or turn off and on. The shelf impinges on the view of the screen. Also, the corner of the shelf is a hazard - if you bend down to reach into the fridge and stand up, you can easily bump your head, which I did twice. #8 - Good movies were shown on the outside screen. We were told they would be shown on the TV the next day. Finding out the times was impossible. Princes has an ancient TV system that runs an interminable scroll about what is on the TV. It is not updated promptly each day, and the outside movie was never on the scroll at all. Inquiring twice about the time of a movie, and planning to be in the cabin to see it, we were given incorrect information twice. #9 - The room was small and dull. The doors are very narrow, and upon entering the room is not at all inviting. Tiny bathroom. No couch, and a chair, table and nightstand had to be removed for a roll-away be to be used. (A lousy roll away bed, I might add.) [Our travel agent made an error on our booking. We needed 3 beds and specifically did not want an upper berth. Princess has no veranda cabins with a 3rd bed on the floor.] #10 - "You can't get there from here" - We hated the layout of this ship. Sometimes stairwells were roped off. Some elevators do not go to the deck you need, and you have to get off, go up or down on the stairs, across, and then reach your destination. Service elevators were in public areas, which we had never seen before. #11 - Adult quiet areas. Had to find unless you wanted to pay for "The Sanctuary". There was a tiny adult pool, but it had few loungers, and offered no shade at all. We will not be cruising Princess again, and regret the waste of money that this cruise was. Read Less

Cruise ship was in poor maintenance, toilets constantly backed up, rusty and dirty balcony. Blanket had brown stains on it, the television was placed such that the remote did not work properly, the buffet was lousy, particularly the breakfast selection. Two of our three destinations were cancelled, one due to engine trouble with the ship. But by far, the worst aspect of the cruise, was the customer service. Easily the worst customer staff I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing. Constantly making promises that were never met, claiming supervisors/management would be in contact with us concerning our issues. None of these things ever happened. The only compensation given for all these issues was a paltry $50.00 credit, and a credit towards a future cruise booking, which we won't be using. Apparently their idea of compensation for such a poor experience is the customer giving them more money. Company and staff refused to take ownership of any of the problems, and the story was different depending on which person you spoke to. We will be booking all of our future cruises with a different cruise line. The only positive parts of the cruise were that embarkation and disembarkation from ports of call were very easy and went quickly. Read Less

My wife and I recently returned from a short Princess cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale. Unfortunately, this was the most unenjoyable experience that we have had while cruising with Princess, or any other line. Our disappointment started when we entered our cabin. We had never experienced a cabin with bunks on the walls. We elected to have Princess select our cabin. It was not a good fit for an older couple. Getting out of bed in the dark was a hazard because the presence of the bunks did not allow one to stand up straight while getting in and out of bed. The next disappointment occurred around midnight when we were awakened with yelling and jumping from the next cabin. We struggled out of bed trying to avoid hitting our shoulders and called the front desk. The noise was quieted that night. The next morning I went to the front desk to express my concern about the bed situation and the noise in the hallway for the rest of the night and early morning. The desk person said that he would pass on my concerns to the manager and that I would hear back. We never heard back! I took note that a message was sent out prior to the cruise cautioning passengers about the Zika threat. Another warning should have been posted regarding the fact that half of the passengers would involve everyone else in a wild spring break movie. Most of the time things did not operate in Princess Fashion. That is, young people were allowed in eating areas with no shirts and almost no clothes in some cases. I had to write a follow up message to communicate my ongoing disappointment with their customer service regarding an unhappy travel experience. After trading phones calls for a few days, I finally had a conversation with a customer service representative. He apologized and was sorry that we did not have our typically pleasant Princess experience. He also indicated that he would share my comments with management so that the service could be improved. In the end, there was very little satisfaction from that exchange. We still have memories of a negative experience, a poor use of money and, especially, vacation time! There was very little that was pleasant about this voyage, save for the entertainment, which is always exceptional. Unless we were in port, there were virtually no deck lounges available, and no way to hear the Movies under the Stars because of the boisterous crowds that could not be controlled by the ship's staff. No one controlled a dress code in the buffet area, i.e. no shirts and cover-ups. (No class!) In addition to having an uncomfortable cabin, the toilet was inoperable until the morning of our first night at sea. Therefore, we requested a refund on our future Cruise deposit. After sailing with Princess eleven times, we no longer feel that our business is worth anything. Read Less

We chose this cruise, because there were ports we had not visited. The captain spoke only broken English and it was impossible to understand him. He also seemed like he did not want to meet the passengers, and tried to remain aloof during functions. Poor representative for Princess. We were stalked by employee during the cruise. We felt very uncomfortable and it ruined the trip for us. Disembarkation took over four hours, which we consider unacceptable. We were also not advised that ground transportation to our vehicle was provided, how to get to it, etc. Poor communications. We had a very good cabin steward, which was the high point on the ship. We arrived at one port late due to mechanical/electrical malfunctions. We had to cancel our shore excursion. We did engage in a minor activity not sponsored by Princess. During our review of the cruise for Princess, they were excessively concerned about any competing business. Not really anything else (i.e. their performance.) I would recommend any other cruise line. Somes atrocious happened every day of this hell cruise, which culimated when I opened up my freshly rolled towel I had received from the deck attendant to find fresh vomit all over it, unfortunantly after I had wiped my face with it. The Deck Attendant only shrugged and pointed to the employee next to him when I asked for a supervisor who cared more. The man he pointed to was not a supervisor at all, but simply shrugged again and handed me another freshly rolled towel. Other bad events included catching a staff member lifting my still-soaking wet underwear out of the broken self-serve laundry machine with his dirty hands, learning that our paid-for excurion had departed 90 minutes earlier than printed on our tour tickets, never receiving entire courses of our dinner, seeing crew members chasing one another for a kiss and a hug, seeing crew members sitting on the bar while sipping a drink on duty, and asking a security officer for the directions to the front of the theatre stage for me, a wheelchair user, but getting a blank stare, a shrug and the response, "Go ask guest services," before the security guard walked away! There's more to tell, but you get the idea. The lack of professionalism and even common courtesy was surreal in lack of evidence. Yes, I did fill out the survey in all negative points, and yes, I did get a call from the customer service department, but I told the representative that I would NEVER even consider another Princess cruise because of these events. Yes, of course I told the highest level person at guest services what all happened, daily, but all she did was appologize and blink at me in silence. They really don't care. Read Less

We had the absolute worst vacation experience ever. We have been unable to come to a resolution with Princess. We strongly feel that the advertising, services and the product were mi-represented to us, and we are extremely unhappy with all attempts at resolution, both on-board and after disembarkation with "customer service". Stateroom 617 1) Accommodations- Princess Cruise lines claims on their website to offer "Premium accommodations and luxurious appointments" for their balcony staterooms, which was the cabin type we purchased. On top of our accommodation being very dirty (we have pictures) there was a deep persistent rattle under our bed, which shook the entire bed, to the point we could not sleep at night. We also experienced night crews working right over our room and noise in the hallways, such as loud thumping, chaise lounges being moved, machinery being run at night etc. We tried to get our room changed, and would have even paid for an upgrade, but the only available cabin was not of similar or better accommodation. There was also a septic stench at times, as the toilet next to our room kept malfunctioning. Additionally, we had a Norovirus outbreak on our ship, meaning we were confined to this cabin under quarantine, and we could not get food delivered to our room. After we disembarked we discovered this 50 year old ship has one of the highest rates of Norovirus. 2) Service Issues- We have numerous complaints documenting the poor service from the room service to the dining staff, and multiple cases of rude employees, saying shocking statements to us like, "It doesn't matter how long your food takes, you are under quarantine". Room service was took anywhere form 1-2 hours, and our order never came to us correctly, missing items, broken coffee pots, etc. Several times when we called the phone just rang and rang. Despite claims by Princess Cruise lines that standards of dining-dressing would be enforced, they never were, adding to the over all lackluster experience. The poor service has continued since we have been off the ship with our dealings with post- cruise customer relations. 3) Product claims- We felt that we have been falsely advertised to- the entertainment was far from "world class" as claimed by Princess, and most of the activities are centered around a "sales" pitch for you to buy something. The food was billed as "gourmet" yet we received microwaved breakfast sandwiches and many other simply terrible items. Additionally, we had asked for a private dining experience, yet we were seated with another couple and served at the same time by the waiter, who treated us the entire time as if we were a "4 some". This is on top of an expensive shore excursion we took that was advertised as "very active" yet was 6 hours of driving, and simply walking at a slow pace over flat ground. Additionally, numerous times on our trip we went to use amenities, hot tubs pools, stores etc, and they were closed. This entire cruise was "oversold" to us. Ultimately, we have pages and pages documenting our entire bad experience. We are seeking a refund for our cruise. Read Less

My husband and I have been on 10+ cruises on all the major lines, from Europe to Hawaii, Alaska and all over the Caribbean. In 27 yrs of cruising this was by far the WORST vacation EVER on land air or sea. Something is seriously wrong on this ship. Service is overwhelmingly poor. Bad attitudes abound. Yes, you can find a nice person here and there, but overwhelmingly unhappy crew and rude officers. From the spa to the buffet, to the front desk, they all act as though you are a bother to them. To add to such a poor experience NOROVIRUS went through the ship. Yes, I was a victim. I spent 4 days in my room! You are required to not leave your room until symptom free for 24 hrs. Yes, you will receive a medical bill. Room service was slow, made mistake after mistake with my simple orders. No spoon with soup....No toast with eggs. Overall the ship is older and dirt was in every corner and carpet edge. Do not sail on this ship. Caribbean Princess . Read Less

The Ship was beautiful. Upon entering ship We were impressed. That ended when entering our cabin D123. Opened the door and it smelled like Urine. The Cabin stewart did what he could to alleviate the problem, to no avail. Went to Desk, she stated the Ship was sailing full, however in 2 days first port Antigua passengers would be getting off they would have room to move us to another cabin at that time. The very next day a letter was stuffed in mail slot for our cabin D123. The letter said sailing full no availability. The letter was from Management staff but DID NOT HAVE A SIGNATURE. This is totally unprofessional. To leave a Passenger in a Un Sanitary situation and then not even have the common Courtsey to speak with us face to face. The Shower stall flooded the entire 10 days. The smell remained until we left. Water dripped from ceiling in Horizon dinning room. The Ladies bath rooms in Public areas smelled like raw Sewerage. Tip do not purchase the Beverage plan for Sodas and juice. Just scream at the waiter and get your juice for free. We purchased the plan and whitnessed the Waiters on more than one occasion getting disgruntled guest what they wanted. We were asked to see our Beverage card, of course we were African American. The deck floor was totally un safe. Then failed to remove flooded water 99% of the time. The passengers on this cruise were 95% over the age of 75. The Lido deck looks like a floating Nursing home. At night they give them extra cushons for the chase loungers and Picnic looking blankets to watch the movies. The Beverage manager is extremely Rude to Guest. The Host in Concerto dining room Disrespects African american Women. I could go on for days. Stay away rom this ship Read Less

SATIRE: This was my first cruise and my girlfriends 4th. We booked L106 which was Suite with a front view. Let me first say that I had no expectations and that is good thing. 1. On Board Customer Service- "we can't help you" (meaning we don't care?) 2. Dining room service - slow and slower 3. Entertainment - boring and 3rd class 4. Activities - repeat repeat and repeat 5. Food - quality of McD including Pastry (very disappointing) 6. Employee Attitude - "I don't care--you've already paid for tips in advance" 7. Booms in the middle of the night - UNHAPPY crew members throwing things on floor above our room? These are the good things I have to say about my cruise. Here is one more example. A nice couple from Ireland, one of which was in a wheel chair booked a handicapped room. They told me Princess charged them $200 to use an ON-BOARD wheel chair AND the chair was to big for the doorway to their room. They had book a handicapped room but Princess didn't have that on record. When they complained, on board Customer service said "too bad, we can't help you". After writing via Internet to Corp. headquarters, they told me they were moved to a different room but would have to return to this room later in their cruise. Last but not least, the cost of a cruise (and it appears all cruises are this way) are the ADD ON EXPENSES YOU FIND OUT ABOUT AFTER THE SHIP SAILED. Want a coke, EXTRA. Want 3 scoops of ice cream, EXTRA. Want a better dinning experience, EXTRA. Want a cup off coffee at 6AM not in the buffet, EXTRA To be fair, there are always two sides to each story. I tried to keep an open mind. The bottom line is if you paid $500 PP or, like we did, $2500 PP, except for the room, you have add on after add on. Required fee for pre-paid tips is an insult but I knew about that in advance. It showed in most (but not all) employee attitudes. We paid for a 1st class cabin that gave us ZERO benefits for food or service. It only gave us a bigger room and a view which I would do again, maybe?? I will say our cabin attendant JOHN was GREAT!! He kept our room spotless and replaced towels as needed and supplies constantly. However, some of the other attendants were rude and never smiled. So, before you take a cruise or book on Princess, it isn't the fine print but figure the TRUE COST of and what you expect to gain from a cruise. If I didn't know better, I'd say PRINCESS WAS OWNED BY MOTEL 6. So if you want a "motel 6" experience over say a HILTON, then have at it and pay Hilton prices for a motel 6 experience. Again, just my opinion and satire. Read Less

Boarded the ship on Oct.1, and were met with a sewage smell that was horrible. Upon getting to the mini suite, D231, the door wouldn't open and I was locked out of the room, 1hr later they were able to get the door open. Move the bags in and found out that the toilet wasn't operational, this lasted for three days, no toilets in what they called "Zone 2" which is about the whole forward starboard side of the ship, all 16 floors. The plumber came to the area and I asked him if this was going to be an issue for the entire cruise and he stated they were having issue with the vacuum system and he would keep his fingers crossed. Went to open the sliding glass door, caution tape across the doors, told I can't use the balcony for 2 days. That's why I got a mini suite! For The Balcony! The sewage smell remained for the entire cruise. On about the 3rd day the hot water stopped working. This was a refurbishing cruise at best, they were tearing out the carpet and replacing it on the entire ship, the glue smell was terrible. Food on the ship was mediocre at best, the beef, you might as well eat your shoe! I tried to get off the ship on the first day and asked that they refund my money, customer service pretty well stated, your screwed. Once you set foot on the ship, they consider the ship has sailed, insurance at that point is no good. D231 was the cabin, it had mold in the shower stall, the floors in the bath were coming apart, dirty. Room safe stopped working, had to wait about 30 minutes for them to respond to get it opened. Absolutely Terrible Ship, Beware. If you contact Princess Customer Service, they are pretty much non existent, just automated responses, your on your own. Entertainment was bad. People setting in the isle ways, on the steps, blocking the exits, don't know how the ship allows or gets away with these code violations, except your in international waters, in foreign counties, and you have no rights. When I booked the cruise we were to disembark in NYC, that changed to Bayonne, NJ it's a 1.5 hour buss ride to NYC, just what I wanted to do. I book a cruise that lands in NYC it get changed to Bayonne, NJ. The original booking had no tenders scheduled for the stops along the way, guess what, about 1/2 the stops that the ship stopped at now have water tenders to get to shore, you may say that's not a problem, it is when your disabled and have spent a lot of money to see places that you now can't get to. The one place I wanted to see was Bar Harbor, Maine, guess what, it was canceled. Read Less

Having cruised previously with princess in the Caribbean, I was sadly disappointed on this trip. It appears they have huge problems with the dine anytime system. If you wish to eat at 5.30pm it will be fine, anytime after 7pm there is usually an hour wait standing in a queue, sometimes even longer. On the second day of our cruise, it was my friends birthday,at 9pm with still a long queue we paid 50dollars extra in the grill dining room to ensure we had a meal. People were very angry at the queuing, one person requested to speak with the captain. To be fair to Daniele the maître 'd',who rang me early the next day after lodging a complaint,he allowed us to change to the set time dining in another restaurant. His explanation that the British liked to eat late, did not wash, before he explained that head office were aware of the problem. It is very unfair on the hardworking staff,to be receiving the flak ,instead of those sat in their ivory towers. I found the drinks on board very expensive especially after adding gratuities on every drink, and the policy of allowing guests to take one bottle of wine on board scheming, when they know they have a captive audience. Princess cruises are trying to take their customers for every penny once they are on board. From the excursions to other customer based services. Because we were on the 2nd meal sitting,it was difficult to get a seat in the theatre, often left standing to watch a show. When at sea the sun beds were reserved from 7am,often with no one using them until after lunch. I understand a lot of people have mobility problems, but the exceptional numbers of people with scooters ,wheelchairs etc.was quite unbelievable. Some did not seem to have a problem rushing into dinner quite ably when that time arrived after mowing down a few passengers in the rush! Read Less

Don't quite know where to start - the queing, cold food, no seats in bars after dinner, so many small things resulting in a disappointing cruise. Breakfast was a nightmare having to queue to get into Horizon. Other mornings I was actually in Caribe and had to ask to get out as the gate had been locked. our cabin was shabby to say the least with mismatching unpressed, fading duvet covers and on one occasion our twin beds were made up with duvet covers as bottom sheets leaving about a foot of mattress uncovered - I found this quite unbelievable certainly not what I expected and totally unacceptable. When we asked our cabin steward to change these she did so explaining to us that there was a shortage of bedding for beds made up in single configuration - that was certainly a first! Trying to grab a sun lounger was impossible unless you were out before 8 am. The beds were so close together you had to crawl up from the bottom as there was no space between - most undignified! We were 4 females travelling together and had our request to be on a table for 8 or 10 confirmed, however we were put on a table for 4 and I spent my holiday looking at a wall at dinner each night. We did ask to be moved but were told there was nothing available. These are just a few of the many complaints we had certainly not what I expected. I had been looking for something on a par with P&O but nothing could have been further from the reality. This was my first Princess cruise and whilst I 'never say never' I can't see me taking another - we can be much better served on other lines. This cruise was just a huge letdown an experience not to be repeated. Read Less

Had always wanted to try Princess and found this short cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to Grand Turk so decided to go. What a mistake! From the check in to the horrible food to the checkout it was less than a stellar experience. I realize they had had a NORO virus outbreak and thus were being 'careful' to not re-infect us but the sandwiches wrapped in plastic wrap on the lunch buffet reminded me of grade school and the quality was no better. The cabin was small (balcony) and the help was not helpful. We paid to have anytime dining but when we tried to make reservations in the dining rooms were told there were no openings. The ship overall was not very clean in spite of the fact that they had just dis infected it. We were forced to use hand cleansers but didn't see one staff member doing so..there were not trays in the buffets and one had to balance plate/silverware/beverage. During the breakfast buffet the quiche was ICED COLD! There were no salt and pepper shakers on the tables if you wanted some the staff came and sprinkled your food with what they thought was the appropriate amount. It was a JOKE! The help was not helpful. As I said before this was so disappointing as I thought Princess was a leader not a looser. Will never again travel with them! We met many folks who like us thought this line was supposed to be a better one but also verbalizes how crummy everything was and how small the cabins were. We are not first time cruisers and we always upgrade to at least a balcony but this was laughable. We had invited friends to go with us on their first cruising experience and I was very embarrassed that I had done so. It's now a couple of months later and I am still angry at the wasted time and money. The check in was slow and you had to wait till the folks in front of you had their pictures taken before you could proceed. We tried to circumvent this time wasting experience but were escorted back in line and told we had to wait our turn to get on the ship..no line jumping to avoid the pictures. When I refused to wait for my photo the photographer got NASTY...since we drove to Ft. Lauderdale we were taking our own luggage and thought we could get off this boat in a timely manner but once again we were thwarted by rude staff members. We had looked forward to this short getaway from a local port..live and learn never again Princess! Read Less

My wife and I are seasoned cruisers, platinum on Carnival several on Royal Caribbean. We are both over 50, but we still know how to have fun....was not to be had on this unimpressive ship. Oldest group of fellow passengers I have ever seen....most looking like they were hating life. Ship was boring, boring, boring. I felt bad for the handful of young people on the ship. Thank God we were with another fun loving couple who came with us on this cruise, so we still made our own fun and laughs....got plenty of dirty looks from the geezers because of it. I have long hair, got the evil eye from a lot of the oldsters. Food was mediocre in the buffet, have come to expect that on any ship anymore....dining room was better. Our balcony cabin had a storage closet that, I kid you not, reeked of urine, as if someone in the night missed the bathroom and just headed for the closet.....smell was never addressed by the cabin steward. We were near the back of the ship on Aloha deck, was quiet, little foot traffic, quite a bit of ship movement though. Entertainers tried to drum up some energy, but you could see by the look on their faces that it was futile. The only music poolside was an occasional DJ, who looked like he wanted to hang himself when he went on break. Embarkation was sloooooow. We had to sit in a large lobby until 12 noon. Getting off was WORSE! We were stuck sitting in the closed casino from 8 a.m. until almost NOON! Worst, most disorganized disembark I have ever witnessed. Even after exiting the ship, we got stuck in another long, winding line to exit customs. ALL my other cruises we have just walked off the boat, showed our passports, and done. This was a certified mess....the port of Fort Lauderdale in and of itself is awful. Chaos. By the time we found the shuttle to get back to the car, it was after 2 pm when we got out of there.....then had to drive 4 hours home. Sucked. We got a very good deal on the price of this cruise, the only saving grace. Going back to Royal Caribbean....sorry we strayed!   Read Less
