February in the South has been a chilly one this year. I am glad I booked this late Feb trip to my favorite part of the Caribbean, Eastern. It was just the right time to get a sunny warm up while winter lingers in South Carolina. St. Maarten and St. Thomas are great ports. 7 Day Eastern Caribbean on Caribbean Princess. Older ship, dry docked in 2017 for upgrades and the first ship in the Princess fleet I believe to go 100% live with Ocean Medallion. First item regarding older Princess ships, suites have nice big balconies which I have missed while cruising the Royal and Regal. Ok, the atrium is smaller, the Crooner Bar is smaller so is the Good Spirits Bar at the International Cafe but that lends itself to a more intimate experience where you spend time with the other guests. Crew goes out of their way to make you feel at home and comfortable. Crown Grill got 100% from me for this trip. Club Class anytime dining was super! It was all of the great comforts you expect and want from a familiar Princess Cruise. Ocean Medallion has some glitches to work out but for the most part it did its job. They are coming out with watch bands soon that you can put your medallion in and wear. Much needed! Embarkations and Disembarkation were THE smoothest and quickest I have ever experienced on any cruise line. Staff and crew are excellent. Shopping and Art Auctions were so much fun. If you have never cruised, this ship will spoil you for the other lines the next time you cruise. 7 days is just right on this ship. Read Less

The food was excellent (ate at Crown Grill, World Fresh Market Place, Slice Pizza, Salty Dog burgers, Coffee and Cones, Main Dining Room, and Int'l Cafe) not any bad meals. Good Cruise director and all 5 shows very good. Lots of things to do on-board and the entertainment was number one. We visited Club Fusion every night to dance; Skywalkers to relax, and Explorers lounge for a drink. I enjoy sailing with Princess; this was our third time and we like how they treat us. Medallion Net is the new high speed internet system. It is super fast; you can stream Netflix. The stateroom was clean and bed / pillows are very comfortable. The whole ship was very clean and service was great. Ports visited are a great experience, but did not use the ships shore excursions. I would travel again with Princess Cruises and recommend the ship Caribbean Princess. Read Less

We chose this cruise 18 months previous to departure. It was the first cruise of 2 of our travelers, and the third cruise (previous one 20 years before) for the other 2 travelers. We chose this cruise and ship primarily for the ports of call. We were interested in the varied shore excursions offered, and the mix of environments at the ports of call. Boarding was simple and it was a pleasant surprise to find we had the option of an escort for embarkation since we were in a suite. Unfortunately, we left port approximately 2 hours late and that impacted our first port of call and tours. The ship was clean and appeared to be in good repair aesthetically. Our cabin had some minor damage, there was some carpet that was torn on the "kick plate" at the edge of the bathroom, and the door stop was broken for the main cabin door. Carpet was somewhat dated, however it was clean and the cabin was comfortable. Beds were nice and provided a good nights sleep. Our cabin steward was excellent, and we always had clean towels and the cabin was taken care of. With the suite, we had Club Class dining in the Coral Dining room, that service and food was excellent. We dined in the Island Dining room the second night we were on ship and there was a huge different in quality and friendliness of service between there and the Club Class dining. Our first night on board, we took advantage of complimentary specialty dining in the Crown Grill (again, a perk of having a suite), and that service and food was also excellent. The buffet was good, as with most buffets, you sometimes don't get a food item that you are interested in because they run out, however that was a minor inconvenience. It was occasionally crowded, but not bad for a large buffet. The breakfast cook to order omelets were great, and a wonderful treat each morning. The International Cafe, with 24 hour sandwiches and desserts left a bit to be desired. Some of the deserts were good and there was a variety; some were definitely not as tasty. The sandwiches were ok, though the chicken sandwich has virtually no meat on it and was very disappointing. We were frustrated that Coffee and Cones never had ice cream sandwiches available, even though they were on the posted menu sign. It also felt as though the specialty coffee drinks at New Grounds took quite a bit of time to create and this often resulted in lines and a wait, so we only ordered them once or twice. The bar service was pretty good, though we definitely found that some of the bars were a lot slower with service and not as friendly as others. Good Times at Sea became our favorite bar, and we would often stop by there to get a drink as we went to another location on the ship. Due to schedule times we only caught one show, a comedian. We did enjoy the night and wished that we had been able to see additional shows and productions. We also sat out on deck and watched the Movie under the Stars, that was fun, though the popcorn was a bit dry and not that tasty. Medallion Class and the OCEAN apps: The medallions made entering the cabin easy and almost hands free, sped up embarkation and disembarkation, made it easy to charge purchases to the room, etc. Much easier than handling and swiping a card for each and every thing. The medallions and OCEAN apps are supposed to make it possible to find those you are traveling with and to message each other. Unfortunately, the system did not work as Princess planned and out of the four of us traveling together, one of us could see 2 of the others, 1 could see only 1 of the others, and 1 could see everyone. We had trouble messaging each other, and since there is no message notification, if you don't constantly check for messages, you never know if ,you received one. This is a major flaw in the system (along with it not working properly for everyone). In addition, OCEAN Now, to order drinks and food did not work properly and also couldn't be used in several locations on the ship. The ports were great, offering a good variety of shore excursions and tours (which is one major reason why we chose this cruise). However we did have some issues. As mentioned previously, we arrived at our first port of call late due to a late departure from Ft. Lauderdale. The captain announced that we would stay in port a bit longer than scheduled and that tours had been adjusted. Unfortunately, they adjusted the tours so that the two we selected overlapped each other and we had to decide which to take. We were told we would receive a refund for the tour that we didn't chose (more on that situation a bit later in this review). For the most part, the tours themselves were as described and stated by Princess (we booked all our shore excursions through the Princess website). We did have an issue in Cozumel with the shore excursion. We chose the "ATV and speedboats", the description stated you drove in a 4 person "ATV" and then 2 person speedboats. What Princess did not convey (and when we spoke to the tour operators, they informed us that Princess chooses what information to list regarding the tours) is that lunch was included and that in addition to speedboats, we had the opportunity to snorkel. Because we didn't now that snorkeling was part of the package, we did not plan accordingly (swimsuits) and missed that opportunity (we also had to change our lunch plans since lunch was included with the tour). Now for the issues: 2 of us purchased the internet package. 1 of us prior to the trip, the other one just after we boarded before we went to our cabin. The front desk didn't input the internet order correctly and only charged for 24 hours though we requested the full week. Both of us had continued internet connectivity issues. This created a lot of frustration (we had family at home that we had to be able to communicate with) and disappointment, especially for the price we paid. When the 2nd person in group lost all connectivity the second day, we went to the Internet Cafe to get assistance. At that time we discovered that the front desk only charged for 24 hours instead of the full week we requested. We then had to deal with getting it refunded and getting charged for the full week (which they then overcharged us for). The second issue which became a major issue by the end of the cruise was with the billing for shore excursions. We prepaid our shore excursions through the Princess website on our Cruise Personalizer 4 months before our cruise started. When we requested a statement of account for each of the people in our suite (4 adults), we discovered that they were charging us $10.05 extra each person over what we prepaid. In addition, due to the fact that we had to cancel a tour due to late arrival in port, we should each be refunded $39.95 for that excursion. This totals $50 per person that was mischarged / not refunded. We spent approximately 2 hours on our last day at sea trying to rectify the billing situation for the shore excursions. It escalated to the Finance Manager and though both he and the Shore Excursion Manager agreed that that the numbers didn't add up, no one could explain why, or solve the issues and correct the billing. We ended up giving up on resolving the issue on ship, and have taken it up with our credit card company. The cruise would have been great, if we didn't have so many little issues to deal with (there were a couple of other little billing issues we had to correct). As it was, the issues we had to deal with (internet, incorrect billing, and wasting lots of time during our last day at sea), overshadowed our full enjoyment. Read Less

I chose this cruise for the itinerary. We had never been to Roatan or Belize; plus we went to Cozumel and Cayman Islands. Caribbean Princess was in very good shape. It was the first ship to have full use of Ocean Medallion program; and it is great. There is so much you can do with the ocean medallions and the digital screens on board and the downloaded apps. We ate in Crown Grill, World Fresh Market Place, Slice Pizza, Salty Dog burgers, Coffee and Cones, Main Dining Room, and Int'l Cafe. Everything we ate on board was very good; we did not have a bad meal. Great crew and Cruise director was very good. We went to two shows total. The Magic show as just ok; a little cheesy, and comedian; who was excellent We had three shore excursion scheduled; but one cancelled; so we ended up swimming with dolphins in Cozumel and beach day in Roatan. Those were great shore excursions. We visited Club Fusion every night; Skywalkers twice, and Explorers lounge once. I enjoy sailing with Princess; this was our second time and we like how they treat the passengers, and how they maintain the decor of the ship. Medallion Net is the new high speed internet system. It is super fast; you can stream Netflix, Hulu, and other shows. All in all I give this cruise a 9.8 out of 10 Read Less

This was our first cruise and we would change up a few things. Paid for two drink packages. Didn't even get close to using the maximum. Waste of money Went on an excursion @ every port. Time wasted in " hurry and wait in line" I would only book a couple and definitely look check to see if the boat can dock or if you have to get transported in by boat. Don't book if you have to boat over!! Dinners: We were unaware of dining anytime... We had a 5:30 dining time and our off ship excursions took to long to be able to enjoy the dining rooms. Ended up eating in the buffet almost every night.... Not recommended. The excursions also took time away from on ship entertainment. Look before book excursion if there is something you would like to do or see on ship. We traveled on the Mid sized ship and still got turned around on occasion. The ship was clean and most of the servers were friendly. We had a few that seemed put out by helping you. Entertainment was good. Only one show had technical issue and stopped before it was over. Definitely take time to see at least a couple of those. Read Less

chosen for rock event concerts at sea, not ports that were on the cruise which we would have not chosen as ports of interest. Only port of interest was short timed grand cayman while other long timed ports had most folk aboard hours before we left. The ship iis showing its age despite things like changing drapery, big screen tv and newish carpeting. Food quality and quantity in special rest. has changed not for the better. Sabatini has gone from an abudonza italian rest to a milanese cafeteria.. The ports are for most part princess compounds and are about the same as being on ship for shopping or eating. Most tours are not for easy or handicapped status and for those of you feel that we should not complain about this, we pay the same as you vibrant healthy folk do. Medallion had so many glitches for us as to be useless Princess has cut quality and needs to inform cooks to mix spices and salt gently not dump it. Viking ocean is looking better and better for cruising. Read Less

The Caribbean Princess is a big ship but is in need of a facelift. The rooms are in need of new carpeting, etc. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The food was good but only that, just good. Drinks overpriced and not poured well, if they had liquor in them at all. I'm not a drinker and I couldn't taste the Bailey's in a Baily's w/cream on the rocks! The diving in Honduras as the best ever. I would come back anytime to dive or snorkel here again. The pools were clean and breakfast was the best meal of the day. They had a "private party" in two main areas of the ship each night and we were not allowed to go. Who knew? This took away from activities that could have been for the whole ship, I think that this should be made known at the time of booking so that another date could be chosen. Save your money...don't eat at the Italian restaurant it isn't worth it. Princess should really try to think of NEW things and not just the same old stuff. Sorry to be negative. Read Less

This was a great winter getaway cruise because it included some awesome ports, and a great ship. Also, the Caribbean Princess is Ocean Ready and I really wanted to be among the first to experience this innovative approach to cruising. Thanks Princess, the experience was simply awesome. The Embarkation and Disembarkation processes using the Ocean Medallion were a snap. The ship amentities are fun now using the medallion because you can navigate your way around the ship much easier and find out what’s happening in every venue. The Medallionet is also unbelievable...I mean out of this world. As a former IT Engineer and Satellite Systems Manager, I know how difficult it is to provide a seamless, expedient and reliable internet connection in open seas. The satellite connectivity for ocean faring ships is expensive average 25 kHz links, and can be spotty at times because of the weather changes and ocean conditions. But, I got on to this new internet and it was like sitting at home. I had the full cruise, unlimited access package, and I never had to log-off, and I was allowed to have four devices connected simultaneously. Wow! What a deal. My wife was over the moon because she could finally send pictures of our cruise to family and friends. Again, great decision Princess. We will definitely be on another Princess Cruise. And, we did come back new. Read Less

To get out of cold weather and enjoy the sun and warmth of the Caribbean. This cruise was on a ship with the implementation of the latest Princess marketing project. The Mediallion. The implementation was very weak, and the only real benefit was the excellent internet service. Although to receive the full benefit you must purchase the service with unlimited time. Then it will be like using your wireless network at home. The time required to embark and disembark the ship using the Mediallion did not save us any time. Actually it took us more time to complete the process. The cruise card was quicker. If fact you have to carry both the Mediallion and the cruise card, as food and drink purchases only use the cruise card. Go figure. Additionally, we were supposed to be able to approach our stateroom door and the door would open. This never did work without touching the panel on the wall and waiting. Princess removed the small slot on the wall for paper notices to be placed. Now they are slid under your door on the floor. So watch out when you open the door and not slip and fall on the papers on the floor. We also tried to use the OceanNow app to order food or drinks. It never did work. You cannot purchase but very few of the Mediallion accessories. This is truly mind blowing, as Princess has been marketing this service for at least three years. And they cannot even get the accessories in stock. Someone is not keeping their eye on the ball when it comes to the Mediallion services and products. Don’t expect to see what you have read in the marketing materials. Some of the items on the dining menu have had their recipes changed, as Princess has hired a new chief to revise the menus. We liked the old recipes better than these new recipes. It reminds me of the New Coke vs. the Classic Coke. Why mess with something that isn’t broke. Leave it alone, or if you want to make changes, add some additional items to the menu. This would make it better. Other than these short comings, this was a very enjoyable cruise. Read Less

Appreciate Princess for its Loyalty Program. The new ocean medallion Cruise was great. Keeping the medallion for access to the room for entry was easy and worked quite well. We had window suite F301. First time ever travelling without a balcony and the size of the room and the bathroom with two sinks, jacuzzi tub and stand alone shower all added to the enjoyment of the suite. Plus breakfast at Sabatinis every day and Club Class dining also died positively to the experience. Both embarkation and disembarkation were seamless. We arrived around 12:30 pm and most of the crowd was already on the ship so there was no waiting and we went right onto the ship after checking in. Disembarkation - for the first time ever, the disembarkation times were moved up as the crew did such a great job off loading the bags. We did B2B and the first week disembarkation was also moved up in time so this crew got it right both times. Read Less
