Sadly our reasoning for the choice of ship and cruise line was determined by the lack of available and desired cruise destination with our usual cruise provider, cunard. The following are the few good points : Embarkation and diaembarkation Balcony room steward Customer service desk Waiter service at dinner The following are the negative points : Wines, spirits and beers massively and for the quality of the wines in particular, overpriced. Service slow, and non existant if you were not lounging near the pool. Food quality at dinner, not fine dining by any stretch of the imagination, poorly plated and presented and regularly undercooked. Wine waiter knew nothing about the wines on offer and was only interested in constantly overfilling the glass to push sales. The entertainment was average at best,,, we only managed to access one show at the 10.15pm slot (we chose an 8.00pm dining time) as the theatre was full from earlier diners remaining seated along with there sleeping children, preventing any opportunity to gain a seat, i refuse to stand to watch any show for this reason. Overall a poor shipboard experience. NEVER to be repeated. Ruined the holiday Read Less

Whilst the embarkation and dis embarkation went very smoothly and the cabin and the ship itself was of a good standard we were left feeling disappointed at quality of the food on offer and the additional charge if you wanted a steak rather than what was offered on the menu. The price of beverages was a rip off, $6.75 for a can of Guinness probably with their buying power they get it for less than 50c a can. The entertainment was average at best, did not attend any half way through the cruise. The crew are excellent and friendly as they are on all cruise ships. First time with Princess and the last as well. Overall the potential was there to have a really excellent cruise but let down by the companies goal of adding more profits, not arriving in Skagen and 2 hours late arriving in Copenhagen just took the shine right off. I chose this Cruise because I am a regular Cruiser and was running out of ships & destinations with my favourite company NCL and to a lesser extent Royal Carribean. On the surface they seemed very good and the recent tv program swung it in their favour. The Que tmerely to register should have been a warning, way too long, way to slow and not enough staff to manage. Pop down the road and see how easy it is with Royal Carribean who simply make the whole thing painless from the moment you park your car. Now to the truth of the matter. The food was way below standard compared to NCL and RC, some of it was even inedible. I spent 25 years as a Chef in a previous life so I can talk with some expertise. The service was great but you can't eat service. The Entertainment was dreadful, particularly in the theatre compared to some of the fantastic stuff you get all night long with NCL. Simply not even close to Norwegian Cruise Line The Casino closed at 1.30 latest every night to the huge annoyance of everyone playing, and although I spend small this is the highlight of my holiday. I purchased 2 very expensive drink packages to cover my casino use and barely touched them. I asked for a refund of one of them when I got home and it was declined, together with my other issues brushed aside. I felt completely ripped off and Princess Customer Services are totally inept and brush off your observations without any satisfactory resolution. I hate moaning and can usually live with what I get but this Cruise cost me a lot of money and left a really bad taste in the mouth. (Metaphorically and in reality) I will remember your Southern Fried Chicken long after I forget your Cruise, I think I am still trying to digest it. Seriously, if you are looking for a great Cruise with fantastic food and entertainment, go with NCL. They get it as right as Princess get it wrong and are about the same prices without silly restrictions on the amount you can drink. I spent a lot of money on this holiday and feel utterly ripped off in terms of money spent and service received. I have spent the last 12 years recommending cruises to all of my friends and anyone who will listen, and dozens of them had taken me up on it, primarily going with NCL and having the time of their lives. I have been a great Marketing agent for them all of this time, and will now turn my attention to telling people the truth about Princess. The refund of a drink package and a sincere apology and explanation would have helped, and certainly prevented this, but that was too much for them. In some small way I hope that people will read this and be warned and spend their hard earned money elsewhere. To give this advice, and cost Princess sales will in some way make this experience a little easier to swallow, unlike their Chicken ! Trust me, if you are a new Cruiser, or someone looking for a change, and do not want the stuffiness of P&O, treat your self to NCL (not the Epic though as its too big and busy and badly laid out re the staterooms) To a lesser extent I recommend Royal Carribean but Princess, what can I say, You have been warned Read Less

My son chose this Cruise as he had sailed with NCL and Royal Carribean and had nothing but praise for those two companies and the brilliant time I was going to have. He chose it as it seemed comparable with those two companies on price and Marketing jargon but did not live up to the hype. The entertainment was more Butlins than West End, although the theatre was very good and the last show was ok but according to my son, with RC & NCL that happens every night. The food at best was adequate and did not live up to my expectation. In fact, the conversation around our table and talking to other guests was that the standards were not as good as similarly priced competitors. Even the waiting staff agreed that it was a common observation by guests, although according to my son, when you mention this to Princess Customer Services, they deny it all (rather unsurprisingly) My son worked as a chef in top establisments for many years and is quite capable of making the distinction. The crew were very good, the ship was lovely, the public places clean and nice to be in but the whole thing was a bit of a let down for us, as my son felt guilty at encouraging me to come along at a cost well in excess of £1000, a lot for me on my pension ! The cabin was nice enough and served its purpose. I will go Cruising again, but not on Princess, I will take my sons advise and go with NCL next time, suggest you do the same. Read Less

My partner and I decided on Princess after seeing the recent tv series, and running out of destinations with our favourite Norwegian Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean. On the surface they seemed on par, in reality they are lacking in just about every department. If its your 1st Cruise, you will probably think it is fine, but for a seasoned Cruiser with "better" cruise lines this will leave you frustrated and disappointed. 1. The food was simply not good enough compared to NCL & RC. Very small portions in the Open Dining Restaurants, badly presented, not hot enough in stark contrast to NCL. 2. Cleanliness was lacking throughout the ship, again in comparison to NCL where you see crew members cleaning all public areas all of the time. Here they are noticeable by their absence. The ship is clean and tidy, but it is reassuring on a cruise ship to see proactive staff. 3. The entertainment was simply adequate compared to NCL and RC who pretty much put on a great show nearly every night. On this cruise the last nigh twas ok but the rest was pretty much time filling yawn. 4. The excursions are so expensive, its not worth looking at them unless you are on a really good budget, and the ports are pretty mundane apart from the town on the Bordeaux stop which is pretty and free shuttle service to get there. Guernsey was really nice.. 5. We had stateroom 327 which waw really nice apart from a completely useless air conditioning which made it impossible to get a good nights sleep. Bed comfortable and good tv service but that was all let down by the air con 6. The crew in all departments were exemplary in stark contrast to the above, but thats what you pay your money for isn't it? 7. My partner spent a lot of money on 2 drinks packages for us as he wanted to spend his late nights in the Casino which they shut every night at 1.30 latest despite their being players at the tables, rendering his drink package unnecessary. Be warned, there is no compromise with Princess cruises, when he complained and asked for 1 of the packages to be refunded they declined. When you consider what a drink actually costs to supply in contrast to what you sell it for we thought that at best a little miserable and unacceptable. I would seriously recommend you go with NCL ahead of these operators. NCL just get it right and Princess could learn an awful lot from them Read Less

the staff on sapphire seemed to just be going through the motions there were many we spoke to and they were just looking forward to getting off in Athens and Rome (contract finishing) , the onboard entertaiment was boring to say the least there is only so much violins that a person can listen to (37 days) thats all that seemed to be on in the piazza area (boring) the cruise director and manager had no idea how to entertain the whole ships demograghpics as they just caterted for the oldies there were plenty of youthful passagers looking for some real entetainment but it just never happened. get rid of these fools, there was no free coffee avalible midship (piazza) or any of the down stairs café/bars except in the horizons buffet and the resturants which meant you had to go to the back of the ship just to get a brew, another way princess makes a buck if your not that mobile then your forced to pay at all other locations (the only other free coffee was in plastic jugs by the smokers area) real smart. the harassment from the photo shop staff was constant and very annoying as they would always deliberately cut you off when disembarking for their stupid photo's this was very tacky, I had to firmly tell them several times that I was not interested,(it felt like they were preying on the vulnerable for a quick buck) the pizza in alfredos is very good but they will not allow you to take it away if you want to then there is a $3 us room service fee. the outside area mid ship to aft often stuck of a strong sewage/ methane smell in fact I spoke directly with captain H L on deck and he stated that there was a problem with a vent pipe midship this smell was present off and on for a least 10 days (even called customer service to let them know) the Indian visa fiasco was a joke as we like nearly all passengers paid a minimum of $80us per person for an 8 hours visit to cochin, we wrote to princess months prior to the cruise and advised them that we were not interested in getting off in India, only to be told that we would still require a visa to board the ship.Only to find out that some 70 odd passengers that did not turn up at Singapore with it and were allowed to sail, they only had to sign a waiver that they would not get off in India , we wrote a written complaint to quest services on the ship but did not receive any response (once again poor service) the platinum / elite club is not worth obtaining as there are not free drinks offered in this club ,why would you bother spending more money to become elite ,we will stick with royal Caribbean from now on as they give over 3 hours of free drinks to the diamond club members and it only takes 80 days to reach this level (not 150 with princess) the only plus thing was our stateroom attendant who was very good and plenty of in room movies. almost forgot don't bother with the internet it is very slow and not worth the money Read Less

We cruised with Princess some five years ago, and loved it. Food was amazing, service exemplary and cabins comfortable. We were excited about this cruise around the Far East. Oh dear. Embarkation was in Singapore. Fairly efficient if your a sheep.... One holding pen to another, and eventually we got on board. Obviously straight to the buffet. There we were met by a long line waiting to get in. Princess has now installed two wash hand basins in the entrance and a crew member instructed all passengers to wash their hands. (Apparently the alcohol sanitizer wasn’t effective against norovirus.) Can you imagine how long it takes two thousand people to wash their hands using four sinks? The cabin next. (Superior balcony) Superficially clean enough, but dust was everywhere. They have installed two large TV, but have left the old fitted cabinets as a complete waste of space. The table on the balcony was rusty then simply painted over..... The tiles in the bathroom was very worn and looked blue moulded. That led to the best experience on board. Guest services. I took photographs down and they agreed it looked terrible. They were covered over with new grout the next day. (Semi successfully) They then phoned to officially apologise and add a $250 credit to our shipboard account. This is customer services and in all my dealings with them they were all efficient, polite and a pleasure to deal with. That is a real credit to the company. To dinner. What a disappointment. Much less choice, tiny portions, and a reliance on fish and shell food. It was the worst MDR menu in all the twelve cruises we have taken. Four nights we ate in the buffet as none of us four travelling could find anything desirable. The international cafe. This is open 24/7 for snacks that are complimentary, but charge you $1.35 for a coffee?? Please. This ship was updated in 2018. This seem to amount to new, and very stylish carpets. This ship still looked it fifteen years old. It was superficially clean but when I retrieved my cruise card from the side of the sofa it was filthy. A wee word for the smokers. You are a second class citizen. There are three areas you can smoke. A small area on deck 15, with chairs and tables (always packed) A small area on deck 7 (promenade) with no chairs, just a small wooden storage bench. And Churchills cigar lounge. (Filthy) Good luck to you with that.... To me it appears that the accountants have nickel and dimed Princess into a second class three star vessel. Yes the staff were lovely and customer services were excellent. But the food on offer is poor, except in the buffet which was great but always crowded. (Unsurprising) Will I cruise with Princess again, probably not. I would need to be seriously cheap. Even then i would rather go with someone else..... Read Less

Southeast Asia was on our bucket list. We looked at the various itineraries and chose Princess. We flew in a few days early and went to Cambodia to see Angkor wat on our own as it was also on the bucket list. It did not disappoint. If u have the opportunity to do so, do it. It was the most Amazing place and the Cambodians could not have been more friendly and helpful. We stayed at the Saem Siem Reap hotel and could not find any fault with the accommodations or the service. We booked the tour of Angkor Wat through the hotel and I can confidently say that the guide was one of the best we have had. He was ever so accommodating to our needs, we were travelling with 3 octogenarians, and gave that extra effort to ensure the whole group was well looked after.i would highly recommend the hotel and the tour. We spent 2 nights in Singapore on our own prior to boarding. If u r able to do so, I would recommend it. Singapore is a very clean and safe. The people were super friendly. We easily navigated ourselves to the various sites on the very efficient MRT (subway system). If ever we looked lost, there was always someone willing to guide us in the right direction. Marina bay sands hotel and the gardens of super trees r not to be missed! The MRT even dropped us at the new Marina Bay cruise terminal for boarding, all well signed and accessible. Embarkation went smoothly, though a bit chaotic at times since there was a second ship boarding at the same time. The facilities though large, seemed to be challenged accommodating 2 large ships at the same time. The ship, despite recent dry dock, is still in desperate need of an update. The cabin was retrofitted with large flat screen TV in the room, but the furnishings and bathrooms are showing their ages. Our cabin steward tried his best, but the air conditioning and toilet struggled . The lounges looked tired and very dated. The one nice spot was the new Internet cafe that was recently retrofitted from a bar. The internet service unfortunately was still abysmally slow and unreliable. Our waiter and his assistant tried their best, but it was difficult when the food was such a let down. It was either bland or severely over salted. The coffee was so watered down that I had no choice but to purchase a coffee card in order to get a decent cup. There were better food options at the buffet than in the dining room. We were resigned to tolerating the dining room because it was easier to find seats rather that doing endless search in the buffet. The entertainment was lacklustre. I was disappointed that the afternoon movies were shown outside rather than in the air conditioned theatre. Needless to say that we chose not to sit out in 35C heat to watch movies. The shore excursions were subpar. We were rushed around to the various sites, with little explanations and guidance. With such large groups, we were unable to keep together let alone hear the guide without some sort of headphones. Needless to say we lost valuable time waiting for lagging/lost guests. When we spoke up, the guides were either didn’t understand or indifferent. If there are opportunities to use non princess shorex, my advice is to do so. I would definitely return to SEA, but not with princess. They seemed more interested in nickel and dime everything. Read Less

Original ship boarding time was 2pm. Princess sent out notice of 3hr delay because of Chinese Fingerprinting of passengers. Sent out 2nd delay for 2hr because of Fog & late arrival. We arrived at terminal at 5pm to find about 2500 people stuffed into terminal waiting. They finally started boarding the "Elites" around 7pm, and we started about 8pm.. Had to trek thru rain to Chinese Immigration building, spend 30min there the another trek in the rain to the dock, 300 yard down the dock to the gangway, board the ship in the rain and then trek another 100 yards to have our pix taken in the rain. Got to stateroom at 9pm. Thank God for their pizza on deck 14. Our Mini-suite & Room Steward "Frenchie" were the best part of the trip. Specialty Dining and Regular dining rooms were very good but the buffett was the worst we've ever seen on many cruises. Having been on the Royal and the Regal we were spoiled but the Sapphire buffet was mostly out of No. 10 cans. Terrible baked goods, main dishes low quality, but the salads were good. Seating very crowded, especially when one side was closed off. Took only 3 of ship excursions. Hong Kong was excellent, Ko Samui OK (skip monkey harvesting---a joke); Phu My interesting and good. Used private driver in Thailand, still a 2hr drive each way to Bangkok from dock. Singapore made the whole trip worthwhile. Too bad the trip was started off on a very bad vibe. Embarkation could have been handled much better. Even the wheelchair people had to wait while they boarded the "Elites". Not very good PR. Read Less

We chose this cruise as it offered an interesting itinerary at the only time of year that we can travel. This was our fourth cruise but first with Princess. Positives include * Seamanship demonstrated by the Captain and his crew as the ship sailed through some particularly nasty weather should be congratulated. Passengers were as comfortable as possible in a dreadful storm. * Our stateroom steward provided excellent service during our stay. Not so Positives * Bar services were very poor. Bar staff were slow to take orders for drinks and seemed largely indifferent to customers generally. We were charged for drinks despite having a drinks package on more than one occasion requiring us to ask for the charges to be reversed. * Dining menu options weren’t very interesting and the food was generally quite poor. The special Celebrity Chef menu items weren’t particularly enticing nor prepared well. The best food was served in the buffet on the top level. * Entertainment was appalling. Theatre Shows were no where near what we had experienced on other cruises. There were more entertainment venues than acts to perform - no sooner a band or act had warmed up the crowd then they finished up and we were required to wander through to another venue to find another venue where something was happening - it felt totally bizarre to be wandering around the ship looking for entertainment. It seemed to us that the Entertainment Team were unable to secure any acts for the cruise and were scraping the bottom of the barrel just to get through. * Itinerary may have been over ambitious in light of the immigration issues encountered in some ports. At some Ports we were unable to clear Immigration some hours after arriving giving us limited time ashore. Princess should reconsider their itinerary if better arrangements cannot be made. * Debarkation debacles ensued when the ship was unavoidably late into our last port. Our main complaint here relates to very poor communication from the Customer Services team as excursions were cancelled without notice and alternate arrangements were not offered with clear communication. * Ships layout was confusing and awkward. The fact that there are five dining rooms rather than one Grand Dining Room lessened the evening meal experience. Also, as mentioned above there were more bars/clubs than acts to fill them. I don’t expect we will bother booking with Princess again as we have enjoyed better service on other cruise lines. Read Less

First the short "PRO" list: 1) Great service, 2) Meals were good, 3) All but one excursion was very good, 4) Finishing of the (renovated 2018) ship was very good, as expected. Before I begin the "CON" list, be aware that Princess misleads you. We bought what we was sold as an 11 night Southeast Asia cruise. Princess doesn't tell you that it's actually a 3-night and 8 night cruise -- note that when I selected cruise date of January 18, 2019, Cruise Critic refers to this as a 3-night cruise. Cruise Critic is honest, Princess isn't. So why would you care? Well, two reasons. The first is that you go to Singapore, do three days, return to Singapore, do 8 days, return to Singapore. Singapore is a nice place but three visits in 11 days is ridiculous. The second reason is the passengers. On the 3-day portion, the majority of passengers were from China. Oddly, all the Chinese disappeared on the second half of the cruise, replaced by Australians. No idea why this is, but I mention it because again, you're not buying an 11-day cruise, you're buying TWO cruises and it DOES make a difference. Very poor merchandising practices by Princess. My "CON" list concerns the ship itself. Although nicely finished after a recent renovation, this is a very poorly designed and poorly built ship: 1) A/C was "out" in our room for two days and the A/C was spotty throughout the ship. There were many places where it wasn't working and other places where it was really cold. 2) Whoever gave this ship an award for the fitness area must be short. I am 6'-4" and I actually hit my head on the ceiling with my first step on the elliptical machine. I didn't try the treadmill after that, but the result would have been the same. Take away the ellipticals and the treadmills and there's practically nothing for a tall man to use. While recovering from my bruise, I realized that I had to start paying attention to the extremely low ceilings everywhere. Yes, I'm tall - but I'm hardly an NBA player. I have been on lots of cruise ships and this was the first where I felt I really had to keep an eye out for low ceilings. If you're tall -- BEWARE! 3) Every time we or our neighbors would close the cabin door, the walls would shake. 4) The shower uses a curtain instead of a shower door. Just be sure to aim the shower head at the wall so it doesn't spray the floor. There is no hose for the shower. 5) The Horizon Court Buffet lacks adequate seating - in 11 days, we were never able to actually sit IN the buffet. Instead we had to go outside. This in part is again due to poor design in that you actually can't go from one side of the buffet to the other without actually going out to the pool area and coming back in; 6) No place to sit in a lounge and watch the view ahead; this is reserved for the extra-cost "Sanctuary" area. The Skywalkers lounge is fine but it's in the back. 7) The design is just generally poor. The stairways are narrow and often divided. There are lots of passages that go nowhere. We were midship and no more than 50 feet from the stairs -- but to get to them there were your choice of TWO corridors and next to the stairs was a crew-only elevator - the passenger elevators were through yet another passageway. This is just plain stupid design. Read Less

Chose this mini-cruise as was due to visit Guernsey & Cherbourg. Also booked an independent tour in Guernsey. The night prior the tour company informed us the ship would not be porting in Guernsey and issued us with full refund. Nothing from Princess, even tho booked direct, checked website and cruise personaliser all evening, nothing. Arrived at Southampton, very smooth check-in handed stateroom keys and still nothing said, so I asked and, after consulting notes on her desk, the agent confirmed we would not be going to Guernsey due the weather but would visit Brest instead. No other passengers were being informed of the change either (I was listening to others checking in) so the first most people became aware of the change was on arrival in their stateroom where a letter had been left on the bed. Not good enough Princess, especially as your T&C's permit a refund if changes are made by you prior to departure. Anyway, that aside, we booked a mini-suite which was a lovely large cabin with separate seating area, 3 seater sofa, plus good size bathroom. It also had a large balcony, however was on Dolphin Deck which protrudes further outside the ship than the decks above, so every deck above could look down at you which we hated. (See photos) Also the deck furniture appears to suffer the elements more as was quite scruffy. We also had very very noisy neighbours on both sides, groups of girlies celebrating 30th birthdays but who constantly decided to group-sing, shout and scream, bang on friend's cabin doors, slam their own cabin door constantly, and on one side of us they constantly smoked on the balcony. We also saw the same group walking right around the prom deck all with lit cigarettes in hand. We like to have breakfast in the room. We have taken 20 cruises including Cunard and RCI and have always been able to have a decent selection of hot items for a room-service breakfast. Not so on this cruise, the only hot item was an egg bacon and cheese muffin, you could not even order it without cheese as was a pre-sealed microwaveable packed piece of rubbish. You could not even have toast just pastries. So we tried the Horizon Court for breakfast, well the queues were so long that they stretched out the door either end so we gave up. And so we come to the ports, we arrived at the re-scheduled port of Brest on a Sunday. It is completely closed on a Sunday, There were no excursions available either on or off the ship, so the only people walking deserted streets were our fellow cruise passengers, most of whom gave up and returned to the ship shortly after leaving it. Then we arrived at the originally scheduled port of Cherbourg, on a Monday. It too was closed. Shops there open from Tuesdays to Saturdays. The only stores open were the clothes boutiques in the small Les Eleis shopping mall plus the Carrefour supermarket there. Great scheduling Princess! So, this was a taster cruise for us as we had booked a 10 day Caribbean trip in 2019 and wanted to see what Princess would deliver. Sadly, it fell way short of our expectation and so we have now cancelled the other trip. However, one mention must go to the onboard staff, they were excellent, very friendly and a joy to meet. This was my third sailing with Princess since 2013 and it has really gone down hill. The Norwegian Fjords were obviously STUNNING but if I were to do the same itinerary again (and I absolutely would go to Norway again in a heartbeat), I would go with a different cruise line. TRANSFERS The transfers to and from the cruise terminal and Heathrow airport were hectic with people rushing us to get on and off the bus. I don't really know why. They were just very pushy. Luckily once we were on, it was fine and our luggage was not lost or tossed around carelessly. So that's something. EMABARKATION Embarkation always involves a bit of waiting in line and this was no different but the check-in agents were working very quickly and they were friendly. This process was seamless and, once through the line, we got onto the ship very quickly. Once we were onboard, we we met our cabin steward who was very friendly and he informed us when the muster drill would be. He also said there was no longer a requirement for passengers to wear their life vests during the drill so we could just go straight to our stations. That was really nice! Our cabin was also very very spacious. I don't know how we got it but it was a wheelchair accessible room with lots of extra space. There was a ton of storage with a wall of closets and the bathroom had a large wet room type of shower. Much nicer and more convenient than the normal ones. The bed was also incredibly comfortable and we had a hard time getting out of it several times! We took many naps. SERVICE Service level was hit or miss. I would say about 2/3 of the employees we interacted with were not good. By that I mean they either had a bad attitude, were slow with the service, never brought us what we asked for, didn’t greet us etc. It felt like we had to go out of our way to get serviced sometimes. Then 1/3 of the staff were fine. However, only one dinner waiter (we had anytime dining) and one drink server come to mind when I think about people we received excellent service from on board. The cabin steward was good and friendly but mostly invisible with not a lot of interaction to judge on. Our cabin key cards demagnetized probably 7 times during the trip which was annoying because we had to bring it to the front desk each time to get a new one. A lot of the times we had to wait in a line of people to talk to the front desk clerks too - while being locked out of our room! We asked how we could prevent it and they said “did you have your key card near your phone or a magnet?” And sometimes we did but there was at least one time I know with 100% certainty that it didn’t touch either because I didn’t even bring around my phone with me (had no service anyway) and I kept the key card in its own pocket. They were not helpful but they really just need a better system that doesn’t fail so easily. FOOD The food was very disappointing. The buffet food was 90% gross and 10% okay. On a cruise, I’m splurging and endulging on, I want good food, not just sustenance. The food was not satisfying in that way at all. We even went to the steakhouse that costs extra (with a credit from our travel agent) and it was just about average/passable. Surprisingly, the pizza and burgers out on the pool deck were better than some of the buffet food. We got the feeling that Princess was penny pinching and skimping out on quality. Maybe it was because we were in a more remote place in Norway where fresh ingredients were harder to come by but everything tasted frozen and reheated the whole time. The dinner menus also seemed to be less creative than I’ve experienced before. We had breakfast in the dining room once and it was literally just the food from the buffet and international cafe put on a plate and brought to our table for us. ENTERTAINMENT We didn’t go to any of the main stage productions but we passed by the theater a few times during and could hear some off-key singing voices. Some of the bands and singers in the lounges were also off key or just boring. People hardly danced at all. It also seemed like there were much fewer activities like games and karaoke going on throughout the days and nights. The sea days were almost boring because of that. The pools and hot tubs were overly crowded (probably because there wasn’t much else to do) and at the “adults only” pool, the rule was not being enforced so there were kids splashing around in it and in the hot tubs. ALCOHOL Last cruise we did with Princess, we got the premium beverage and spirits package and thought it was a great deal! This time, not so much. It’s very expensive and you have to drink a LOT to break even. The beer, wine, and cider selection is very weak. The bartenders would not allow us to get a large bottle of water and we could only order 2 small ones at a time. So, we couldn’t even get our money’s worth with non-alcoholic drinks let alone booze. Adding in specialty coffees, I think we just barely broke even but that was with actively trying to drink as much as we possibly could. I would not recommend it. EXCURSION We only did one. We did the Bergen (Norway) walking tour with ice bar. It was good and I would recommend it for a nice overview of the city. Our guide was very nice and friendly. The ice bar was more of an attraction, a bit gimmicky, not an actual bar open to just anyone but it was still neat. It came with a cocktail. SPA I got my acrylic nails refilled at the Lotus spa and the tech was friendly and did a great job. No complaints. OTHER Selling and upselling was very prevalent. “Book your next cruise!”, “Buy this jewelry”, “go to this wine tasting for an extra cost”, etc etc. DISEMBARKATION When it came time to disembark, this is where things got really bad. It seemed clear to me that, because we were done, we couldn't spend anymore money, they no longer cared about us. The night before disembarkation, we received instructions in our stateroom that had a meeting place and time. This was where we would meet and gather to be connected to our airport transportation. The instructions EXPLICITLY STATED “do NOT arrive early” to the meeting place. This made sense because there are different groups that may be meeting in the same place but at a different time. We got up early, sat around in the piazza and drank coffee waiting for our time slot. At 9am we went to the meeting place and sat for a minute. Then, the coordinator announced that “the last group” (not ours) could go. We looked on the sheet provided that detailed the groups, meeting times and places and saw that the group he called wasn’t supposed to meet there until 9:45 but. We went up to him and asked for clarification. He casually said they were just running ahead of schedule. WAIT WHAT? Again, the instructions specifically emphasized not to arrive early, so how is that possible? Of course now, we rush out. We get to baggage claim and notice our bags are the last ones left in our group. There was a woman there telling us to hurry because our bus and everyone was waiting for us! Again, even though we were precisely on time. It was confusing and infuriating. We were wondering what would have happened if we were in the 9:45 group that left 45 minutes early! Would we have been left there with no transfer? Luckily we got on the bus but it left a really bad taste in our mouth how the whole thing was handled. Overall, there were some good things and some bad things but I can say I will not be sailing with Princess again. It’s just not worth the money. Read Less

It was our (myself, husband and 2 kids aged 18 and 7) first time cruising, and were really looking forward to what sapphire princess had to offer after hearing such good things about it from various people. As an overview the food was good, service was sometimes a little hit and miss in the anytime dining although all staff were very pleasant. Apart from receptionist when we asked how to go about removing tips. (we tipped individuals separately). Breakfast in Horizon court was excellent infact the choice of food In this dining area was excellent most of the time. We don’t really drink we took 3 bottles on board but came back with 2! But whenever dining or sat in entertainment areas we felt a little bombarded by the promotion of buying drinks (Because this is a great money earner). The onboard entertainment didn’t really appaal to my 18 year old as he fell Out of the youth bracket and there weren’t many, if any young people his age to interact with. Although he had a fantastic time off board, when we visited the different cities and really enjoyed the food onboard. The shows were inconsistent in quality and some were funny for the wrong reasons although entertaining! The places visited were all exceptional apart from Gibraltar. The cabins were good we had 2, 1 double and 1 with 2 singles. They were adequate in size and had great storage. Bathroom adequate and clean but it could do with a refurb. The main problem for us whilst onboard was the pool, and lack of life guards and supervision. Adults and children alike ignored the no jumping and diving signs and it made pool time with my son unbearable. It caused numerous rows around the pool with parents and younger children complaining about others to staff who eventually showed up to take a look after having had so many complaints from different people. 2 kids landed on me, on separate occasions, bruising and cutting my leg, and as I couldn’t stand up in the pool areas because they were too deep (I’m 5’3) it felt really unsafe for my 7 year old, who wanted to spend as much time in there as he could because the kids club staff put him off on his first visit. They refused to call us to collect him when he wanted to leave, after they said they would with it being his first visit and we remained unpacking in our cabin so they could. We returned after an hour for him and from that point he refused to attend again which is a shame, because he was looking forward to dipping in and out of certain activities, which is why he wanted to go in the first place. Staff didn’t deal with the pool issues and the kids and parents of those kids spoilt it for us and others, particularly when they somersaulted over your head, dive bombed people or threw their kids towards other people who were trying to cool down. It was actually horrendous, so I recommend not going during school holidays on this ship. I’m a teacher so needless to say I won’t be going again, which is a real shame. After asking if they can make an announcement and have staff presence around the pool, they provided staff for 2 days but they had so many complaints on the poolside, they didn’t bother after that, whilst there they didn’t stop them all of the time anyway. The captain announced that all must abide by the rules but doing this 2 days before the cruise ended when the weather became cooler as we hit the Atlantic back to Southampton, it was too little too late. Going from Southampton, you do tend to lose about 4 sunbathing days, although some people were on sun loungers in all weathers wrapped in towels. So you could do with cardigans / jumpers for part of this stretch. On the last day we saw two people vomiting violently, one in a corridor and the other in a bar... and now my 7year old seemsto have the same symptoms and is lying on our couch! Unfortunately, in all, the few things which we found as issues really put a dint in our vacation, and although you can’t please everyone all of the time, there were quite a few disappointed passengers both with and without children who said they wouldn’t be returning. The Norwegian Fjords have been on my bucket list and did not disappoint. The itinerary was absolutely gorgeous and if it wasn't for that, this cruise would be getting a much lower rating. The cabin was small and tired. This ship is due a major overhaul. Specifically little things like better outlets and charging ports for the number of devices we are all carrying these days. In-cabin entertainment was also limited and the ability to plug your own device into the TV to watch pre-recorded shows would be a nice amenity. We could get to an open input but the TV is preprogrammed so that you cannot change inputs and are forced to watch the Princess stuff. Our chair was completely broken (I completely fell through it when I first sat down) but was fixed quickly. The demographic on this cruise was VERY old and it made traveling with a teenager a little difficult although he doesn't complain, he was bored on-board. Luckily we had 11 stops so we got off fairly often. Too bad the shore excursions were so astronomically expensive or we would have done more. Also, the shore excursions seemed to rush from one attraction to another never giving you a chance to explore in any depth. All the on-board entertainment seemed to be geared for people 75+. You've got to mix it up a little. Not everyone is into big bands, show tunes, and stuff from the 1960s and earlier. I'm in my 50s and was simply flabbergasted at the lack of entertainment for even my generation, much less anyone younger. The real disappointment however was the food. This was by-far the worst food I've experienced on a cruise. (I've been on 6) The Horizon was awful and had no variety at all. Every piece of beef we had on this ship (even in Sterling Steakhouse) was overcooked and tough as leather. Sabatini's was the only really great meal we had. The pizza place in the Piazza was decent also. We've always had great food when it was an Italian or French food services crew but I think this one was British. I'm not sure if that had something to do with it but the food was bland, under-seasoned and every piece of bread was hard as a rock. Overall, service was top-notch and the crew treated us great. We had a very good time despite the short-comings compared to other cruises. One thing I have to note though is that Princess has gotten out of hand with the "nickel & diming" and charging extra for every little thing. Charging extra for things like regular coffee is no longer acceptable when I can stay in virtually any cheap motel worldwide and get free coffee. A cruise should be virtually all-inclusive for the amount we are paying. Bottom line: The destination was amazing and fun but the ship & crew need to be improved Read Less

Mostly the staff were polite & very helpful, however I tired of the constant 'You're Welcomes' when I thanked people as it was said without conviction & mostly without eye contact. The ship was very tired looking & indeed a bit shabby in places - I understand it's having a spruce up as I type this post. The food in all venues was mediocre to say the least & nothing excited me at all, the 'fresh fruit' at breakfast had an old taste about it & should have been dumped. Entertainment was a bit cheesy & boring, bar entertainers doubled lup as theatre artists, thi is obviously saves money but I expect more from a cruise line like Princess. The ship didn't appear full so space was a plentiful in all areas which was great. The free sauna area was a treasure as I don't believe in paying extra for this facility. Read Less

I told Princess cruises about my food allergies, we dined in the Santa Fe restaurant every night because of this problem, I ordered my meals the night before so they could prepare my meals in advance and they still forget to prepare it, they even let my wives meal sit there will they made a meal that was not what I expected only to give my wife a cold meal when mine eventually arrived. Then on more than once my meals came out cool to luke warm, I brought to the head waters attention and I still received a cool meal. I usually have a coffee after dinner and waited 6 nights before they finally asked if i wanted one. We would wait for a water refill for up to 10 mins, the standard of food and service was very poor on this cruise. We have cruised with Princess 6 times before and this level of service and food is well below what we have received on all other cruises. NOT HAPPY JAN||||||||||| Read Less

Looked like a good itinerary. Some new destinations (e.g. Malaysia - not much to see and Ko Samui - arbitrarily cancelled and not replaced with a new port) and old favorites (e.g Bangkok Royal Palace - dangerously crowded and unpleasant excursions). Less than half of the ship excursions we took were really worthwhile. Some were very misrepresented and when I brought this to the Excursion Desk's attention I was informed that I should have read the fine print. Also, there were no Port Lectures or Enrichment Lectures of any sort. The Excursion Desk would not even help me with taxi information. There were multiple false safety alarms broadcast to the cabins, one at 5 AM. On the other hand, the food was good and the evening shows were excellent. I have used Princess before and have enjoyed their cruises but I would not recommend Princess for an enriching travel experience in Asia. Read Less

We have cruised with Princess six times and with other lines, maybe 20 times. This trip was by far the least satisfactory. The ship was very tatty and worn. It broke down when a propulsion system failed. The announced 2hr. delay expanded to over 6 hrs resulting in a curtailed on shore trip. An accident resulted in a helicopter extraction at 3 a.m. resulting in a missed port. The food was at best mediocre with some meals being served without vegetables, potatoes or rice. 'That's the way it comes' the waiter said. The best food on the ship was the Pizza & the chips (fries) made to order by the pool. The theatre entertainment was, for the most part abysmal. We have never before left a theatre partway though an act but we made for the exit together with about 20% of the audience on the 1st night. The shows put on by the 'house' singers were little better substituting volume for tone. The 'house' band was excellent as were 3 Asian singers and a trumpet player but having endured some of the other presentations we gave the shows a miss on several nights. The worst failure to offer a satisfactory service was the evening while docked in Singapore. A formal dining night was announced. Turning up at the dining rm. at the prescribed time we, together with some 30 others, were told that the whole rm. had been booked by new clients and we should go elsewhere! 'See the m/d. We had pre-booked an excursion to visit Lok Kawi Wildlife park in Borneo as we wanted to see orangutans up close. The day before our visit the ship broke down mid-ocean from a mechanical problems involving the propulsion system causing us to drift aimlessly for 7 hours before the repair was completed. In consequence we arrived late into port and we were informed half of the excursion had been cancelled leaving only a small amount of time that could be spent at the main attraction. Many passengers refused to go and were refunded the total cost. The Wildlife Park turned out to be no more than a private zoo. The majority of the animals were clearly kept in an extremely distressed state and in particular elephants were seen rolling from rear to front legs continuously A tiger was seen to be walking round and round in total frustration. Our visit lasted a mere 55 minutes during which time it was impossible to see all the animals and we left totally disillusioned with an extremely depressing visit. Complaints made on the ship resulted in firstly a 20% refund followed later by 35% of what was less than half the expected tour. The staff were disinterested in our complaints and instead referred us to UK Customer Relations. A written complaint was answered by a Ms Mills who clearly had all the facts wrong as she blamed the late arrival on weather conditions and not the ship breaking down. She refused to increase the refund and it was clear she had not read the original complaint. She stated we had enjoyed other excursions, which was wrong as nothing had been mentioned. The cruise itself was well below expectations with the quality and quantity of food being the major complaints. On 2 evenings we were left feeling unfulfilled and had to retreat to the self-service restaurant for more food. 3 evenings had belly pork on the menu, meat that we would not touch in a thousand years and on another lamb shank was so tough it was disgusting. A beef steak was like leather and so tough it could not be eaten. We walked out of 3 evening performances in the theatre.2 were the ship'sown production shows where singing and dancing was the worst we have ever seen. Having cruised over 30 times with other companies I cannot recommend Princess Cruises and will not re-book with them in future. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to sail from Singapore and I assumed Princess was a "good" cruise line, similar to Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian. I'll start with the good experiences - we loved our shore excursions and the shore excursion staff. The food was good and the pastry chef was extraordinary. I don't stay up late, so I can't comment on the entertainment, except to say none of it sounded interesting enough to make me want to stay up late! Where the ship did not meet my expectations - one day our room was not cleaned at all, even though we paged our steward to let him know we were leaving for several hours. Turns out, his pager didn't work (we tested it with him in the room). Seems like that would be something Princess would test regularly. We also could never get the room cool enough...it was probably 72 degrees when we wanted closer to 70. This was a balcony room. The bathroom smelled like mildew, and the toilet would not flush one day. Turns out, this was a problem with our section of the ship; we randomly met the people two doors down who had the same problem on the same day. Twice we complained to an employee and then a "supervisor" in the buffet area. Once when our cruise cards wouldn't work to charge a Diet Coke. We had already been to the service desk and had been assured our cards were working properly. The "supervisor" wouldn't get me a Diet Coke until I lost my temper, saying "If we gave free soda to everyone on board, it would cost a fortune." I wasn't asking for a free soda; I was willing to pay for it, if they could figure out why their system showed my card working at the front desk but not in the buffet. What is the cost of him getting me a soda and asking me to follow up a second time with the front desk? A quarter? A dollar? Why couldn't this "supervisor" see the need for customer service over profit? I should say that I'm a 54 year old woman who is in chemo, so I have no hair and I look pretty sick. Not that I'm trying to play the cancer card, but have a little compassion...I just wanted a soda!!! The second time, we had been turned away from a dining room on the SECOND formal night because we were wearing "sport dresses" instead of "fancy dresses." We went up to the buffet, but complained to a supervisor because all the tables were full and only 1/2 the dining room was open. To me, this calls for the supervisor to say something like, "I'm so sorry you're not enjoying your meal tonight. Let me see if I can help you find a table." Instead, he said, "You get a survey at the end of the cruise. Put your feedback there." I'm serious here. My friend explained that if there were so many people who didn't want a formal night (the buffet was packed), perhaps there should be either one dining room for casual cruisers or both sides of the buffet dining room open. Again, he said to put our feedback on the survey. This is simply not good customer service training. One couple we met (at the FIRST formal night) said they've been on 27 Princess cruises and this was by far the worst. We sat in one of the bars for 20 minutes before our order was taken, and waited another 20 after we finished our drinks before realizing no one was going to take our order for a second round. Isn't alcohol one of the biggest profit-makers on a ship? Wouldn't you think the wait staff would WANT to keep our glasses full? Plus, they're getting 15% tip added to each drink. I would hustle for that. More drinks = more gratuity for me. The theater was in terrible condition. Very overdue for a refurbishment, which I'm told is scheduled for March 2018. That means at least six more cruises will go out before the badly needed refurbishment. I could list all the "little things" that also showed us the staff on this ship is new and under-trained, but that's just nitpicking. It goes without saying that while we really enjoyed the ports and our excursions, I won't be sailing on Princess again. I cruised about three months ago on Norwegian and had such a lovely experience... Read Less

Looked like a great itinerary but the ship had to dock so far away from the places of interest that by the time you got anywhere you hardly had time to explore. Three and a half hours each way to Bangkok and they still ran a trip when the ship was leaving at 5:30, so just an hour to see the sights. The food and waiters were very good, as were the cabin staff but the ship was extremely tired, the management and organisation were appalling and the general staff surly and unhelpful and many could hardly speak English. Too many issues to mention but delays boarding, bad excursion experiences and finally no one to direct you to your coach on disembarkation. Drinks very expensive, always HUGE queues of people waiting to complain at customer services - didn't speak to anyone who wasn't complaining about something or other. We have heard that 50% of the staff were being trained and that the ship is due for refurbishment, but if that is the case we should not have been charged full price. A few good shows but the ships singers/dancers were poor. Quite a lot of activities but more suited to a holiday camp! At the moment we're thinking never again with Princess, but it may just be that we were unlucky that the ship was old and the management incompetent. Read Less
