After reading a negative review we felt we had to contradict everything from the so called worse cruise ever. The food in the restaurants and the horizon court was of the normal high standard. There were curries but what was left out was that there were another 9 or 10 choices. The entertainment was of high quality apart from one comedian, the cruise director was always informative and it was not his fault if the comedian bombed, everyone else including the princess dancers and singers were excellent, the assistant cruise director also performed and it is no exaggeration to say that she should have a spot in the princess theatre. The rest of the crew and waiting staff along with the stewards all done an excellent job, so much so that two days after being back we as a family booked a cruise for 2020. T he itinerary was good and if you look at other cruise lines bare in mind that princess has won more awards, and for good reason, some people just have to try and moan about anything, so just be realistic and take all that with a pinch of salt. Also the embarkation and disembarkation was so so easy and so fast, we arrived at the mayflower terminal and was onboard in 10 minutes and was in our hotel in 15mins after leaving our cabin. We chose this cruise for the itinerary - visiting some Norwegian ports we've not been to before and a new country, Iceland, which I've always wanted to visit. We weren't disappointed - fabulous scenery, extremely lucky to get great weather, and really liked the Sapphire Princess - just the right size as it didn't feel too big or crowded even on sea days. And its had a bit of a refurb so felt a bit more modern and up to date. No complaints at all about food, service, the ship and entertainment was top notch, from the production shows to the guest entertainers. We did mostly our own pre-arranged tours or in some ports just got off the ship and walked around. Beautiful and dramatic scenery especially the fjords in Norway and the geothermal areas in Iceland. Either way we got a really good feel for the countries we visited. A great 2 weeks. Thanks Princess. Some tips for excursions if you are thinking of this itinerary: Bergen - we've been before so skipped the trip up the mountain and just walked around town. Visited the Ice Bar which was fun (and cold but you get parkas and gloves to wear). Flam: we booked the Flamsbana railway in advance online but if there is more than 1 ship in, most of the slots will be booked already by tours. Lovely views, sit on the right hand side of the train if you can. Gerainger - we walked up to the Fjord Centre along the waterfall, you can then follow the path further uphill to Flydalsjuvet for great views down the fjord. Alesund - nice walk around the town, and then follow the path to the park and steps up the hill for great views from Byrampen viewpoint. There are further trails around the hill. Akeyuri - we did a tour with FAB travel to Myvatn, Godafoss, and stop at Myvatn Nature Baths - great outdoor pool, smaller and better than the Blue Lagoon. Isafjordur - walk around the small town, not much there. Visited the Culture House and had a nice coffee and great cakes at one of the small bakeries. You'd be better booking a tour to see more of the Westfjords area. Grundafjordur - we booked a small group private tour with another group of passengers who we got in touch with via Cruisecritic forum. Booked with Wild Westfjords, tour of Snaefellsnes Peninsula, well worth it and bit cheaper than Princess. Reykjavik - we did a small group tour with Saga Travel, booked online in advance, for the Golden Circle. Great tour. Dropped off in Reykjavik after, had a walk round town then back to the ship, about 35 mins walk along the waterfront. There is a shuttle but charged 10 euros pp one way. The walk is easy and nice weather so we walked instead. Read Less

Just completed a 14 day cruise to Norway and Iceland. It was our best cruise yet, the stops were great, especially in Iceland. We met some great folks and as usual the staff were top quality. From the point we arrived in Southampton everything ran like clockwork, its so easy to embark. The food on board is excellent wherever you decide to eat. we mostly went to Horizon. The bars on board are great, we used Churchill's mostly, its like being in your local at home, it tends to be quieter than the other bars. We did our on exploring in all ports, this is made easy as all stops had a tourist centre, and with some planning beforehand. The Platter and the Destination Expert Videos are very helpful. If I have any disappointment, then it was the last 3 days at sea. It was good to relax, but another stop on way home would have broken up the time. Next years cruise booked on board, another good deal. Read Less

Got a good deal on Black Friday for this 7-day trip to Scandinavia and it didn't disappoint in terms of value. What did disappoint is that the main motorway into Southampton was shut on a weekend when 5 ships were departing. Given the importance of the port to the city, this should be coordinated better, but is probably down to the government-run Highways Authority rather than anyone in the city itself. It took us 4 hrs to travel the 90 miles from Warwick to the terminal, when it should have taken 2 and the ship left 1.5 hrs late. At least lots of others were in the same situation. Having honeymooned on Sapphire 5 years ago we worried it might not be the same this time, but if anything the state of the ship was better - the refurb has been done subtly and cleverly, keeping this ship competitive despite its age. New carpets on corridors, flat screens and excellent on-demand TV made the cabins great but the pool area seemed to have been recently re-tiled too, and all the public areas seemed in tip-top condition. One thing they could change is to switch to digital photo galleries rather than sticking with the old print displays. One of the things we like most about Sapphire is the four (anytime) dining rooms with different themes - they just make it seem like you're in a different restaurant each night even though the menu is the same in all of them. Food was of a good standard, particularly the basket of bread that Princess gives you to start with. Service was OK if a little rushed. We feel that our preference for anytime dining leads to rushing waiters, rather than the attentive ones you get when you do fixed dining who know they are likely to get a tip at the end of the cruise (not just on Princess). That's just a choice I suppose. Service elsewhere was as good as I'd expect from Princess. Ports were good, but disappointed to miss Skagen because of the weather, having had to make 2 attempts to dock in Copenhagen the day before. Safety first I guess, and our insurance will compensate us a little for that. I feel for the traders in the town who will miss a lot of income that day. The only negative on the cruise really was the ridiculous number of announcements, each of which was repeated. Why do cruise lines have to wake you up with an announcement at 7am when the ship docks? If you've booked an excursion you will have set your alarm to get up in time. If you want a lie-in, tough luck. On the day the ship missed Skagen, we were due to dock at 10 am, but when the decision was taken to miss it, an announcement was made at 7am, waking us all up when we weren't even expecting to arrive for another 3 hours - stupid. How would knowing about it 3 hours beforehand have improved our day? Read Less

This has been a bucket list cruise for us for quite a while and it did not disappoint. While I love the Princess Small Ships, I was glad to see the Sapphire doing this since, being a larger ship, that made it a bit more economical to book. The scenery was fantastic - better than I envisioned. We had a mid forward balcony cabin on the Lido deck, a very convenient location since no stairs or elevator wait for the buffet, pool area or grill. Waking up in the morning seeing the mountains of a fjord off your balcony was fantastic. The size of this ship was nice. Very few lines for anything, yet enough people. We booked Princess excursions at each port. In retrospect, we might have been better off checking which ports had hop-on/hop off services and just used that for a general sightseeing tour. Having said that we were NOT disappointed with any of our shore excursions. The entertainment on board was very good. 4 production shows that were all top notch. The main dining room food was excellent. Yes, Princess is cutting back a bit on Lobster night (a single lobster tail) and I'm sure some people are put off by the *optional* $19 upgrades offered some evenings, but we just ignored them and enjoyed the standard menu. Wait staff was excellent - very attentive to our requests. We were able to have a table for 2 in Anytime Dining each night. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of a need to see Bordeaux, France. Bordeaux was not as exciting as I thought it would be but Bilboa and St. Peter Port more than made up for my disappointment. I have sailed with Princess a total of 100+ days. I am an Elite member and even with my history of sailing on cruises with Princess and many other lines, Princess Ships are par excellence. This particular cruise was lovely, awesome, grand and made so much more pleasureable by the hospitality and friendliness of the crew. What was so significant is that Captain Paolo Ravera was approachable, personable, kept us up to date on the voyage and he was visible. The Captain was as friendly as Captain Stubing on the Love Boat series. The Captain and the staff especially our waiter Sopha Phanvilai and assistant waiter, Henry Fernandes, Ms Analyn, Cabin Steward and myriad staff on this particular ship demonstrate what cruising is all about. Their hospitality, friendliness and endeavoring to always try to give clients a pleasurable experience speaks volumes about this cruise line. Sapphire Princess is beginning to show its age but it is kept in impeccable condition. Embarkation and disembarkation was smooth. Meals were very good and it is a treat to relax and enjoy the activities and the Love Boat and all of its amenities. Princess is my stellar cruise line Read Less

Entertained all the time and except for the fact that every live production thinks that louder is better all was wonderful. The staff was so accommodating with moving chairs so 6 in our party could sit together, at the lounge and next time we will have to get our egg just a little closer to the mark. I think the shore excursions were good only got stuck in one elevator while on our own and we thought about that later, because if we were on one of the Princess shore excursions help would have been there sooner and no one would know what happened to us if we had not got our elevator unstuck in time for sailing. Really fantastic trip though and we would love to go again and spend a little more time in each port. Read Less

I am going to keep this short and to the point. The sapphire princess is a beautiful ship (slightly older and less gimmicks than other ships) but what an amazing time we had. A little background:- my wife, son and I mostly cruise with Celebrity, princess and rcl. What stood out for me on this cruise was the standard of service princess cruises provide. The staff honestly couldn’t do any more - vs P&O where they need to do a lot more. We cruised on the Azura the week before this cruise and the quality is night and day. It was my first P&O cruise and a major shock to my system. Anyway, onto the Highlights:- 1. Main dinning room food was fantastic. Varied and excellent with the most excellent service. 2. The singers on the ship were 10/10. Best I have seen and they have really moved away from some of the tacky cruise shows they provided previously. 3. Never seen so many pools on a ship - great variety and always a hot tub to myself. 4. Movies under the stars - it was rather cold some nights, but I love this concept and enjoyed it immensely. Popcorn and ice cream is a great touch. 5. Alfredo’s Pizza - complementary pizza restaurant onboard - excellent. 6. Sky walkers viewing lounge - what amazing views up there. Beautiful. 7. Table service during breakfast at the buffet restaurant was always excellent. What they could do differently: 1. Keep painting. Seems never ending work but passengers appreciate a fresh looking ship so keep up the maintenance. 2. Bathrooms in cabins look little tired. Need a refresh. 3. The platinum and elite drinks reception in sky walkers is a bit rubbish. Instead of the food (served between 5-7pm) if they enhanced the range of lower price drinks from 1 to say 5 they would bet a much larger crowd and sell far more. Also, they should keep that bar open during sea days - they would make money from drinks. Read Less

We chose our cruise mostly for the port destinations and because family were already booked. We were really impressed by space in our mini-suite cabin and the club-class dining exceeded our expectations. Didn't go to any speciality dining venues because we had everything we needed including lobster, steak and baked alaska! Nothing was too much trouble for our waiting staff and they anticipated every need - remembering personal preferences. Wine list was good with a good selection of bottles starting at about $37. Entertainment was of a very high standard with stars from the west end. Elevator roulette is not to be missed! Scavenger hunt was frantic but great fun. The only downside was the excessive cost of princess shore excursions. Local options are invariably a better bet. Tip - always remove automatic gratuities and reward special staff individually. Embarkation and disembarking were a breeze. Would happily return onboard - in fact, cannot wait! Read Less

No words can describe this excellent ship & our cruise to Scandinavia. Embarkation was speedy & very smooth. The ship was refurbished last year, & it's looking great. New furnishings& carpets were lovely. Inside cabin was large enough, comfortable bed, Egyptian cotton sheets on Queen sized beds were a delight!!! Food in the dining rooms was fine & with good choices. As for the entertainment, rhis is where the sapphire comes into it's own. I have never seen such superb shows both production ones & individual artistes. Standout star was Phil brown who is now in London West end in the lion King. He had the entire audience in the palm of his hands & received a standing ovation which was well deserved. The staging of all the shows both in lighting, sound & sets was incredible you would not believe you were on a ship in the middle of the ocean. As for the itineries, we went to Copenhagen, skagen & Oslo. All of these places were very interesting & luckily the weather was sunny & quite mild. The ship is not too big, about 2800 people, but it never appeared crouded. To conclude, we have been on many cruises over the years, & we can honestly state that this was easily the best, so much so, that when we disembarked we shed a few tears to leave this lovely ship!!! Everything about this cruise was fantastic. From the ports we visited, to the length of the cruise, the onboard entertainment, the exercise class choices, the gym facilities, the games and competitions not to mention the food, all exceeded our expectations! The restaurants were impeccable and the food was first class. The décor is exemplary and let's not forget the compliment the cruise staff. The cruise director and his assistant were very high achievers, always at the ready to assist with entertainment and of course anything that a passenger might request. The production entertainers put 110% into all of their performances. The cabins were well appointed and always well maintained by the cabin staff. We were even fortunate to have the weather in our favour with only 1 rainy day and 1 overcast day at sea. Most shore excursions were value for money and the arrangements for departing the ship were co-ordinated with great precision. Well done Princess Cruises!!!! Read Less

First Med cruise and first cruise with Princess. It exceeded our expectations. Everything was perfect. Staff were so nice. Food was fantastic. The activities and shows were all very good. Such nice treatment from all the crew. We met people from all over the world. This cruise had started in Singapore, picked up some more people in Dubai and then Rome, where we got on. 10 days of spoiling from all the crew on Sapphire Princess. The excursions were very good, we took the one to Juno beach. It was fantastic, and they had a speaker on the D-day landings, aboard the ship. The excursion in Portugal to Sintra and Cascais was excellent. It was so beautiful, both places. We really enjoyed Gibraltar and Monaco. The International cafe in the piazza was fantastic. All the restaurants, provided excellent service, everyday. The food was hot, and very good. We ordered Room service every morning and it always arrived promptly. The entertainment was great, and varied. We also tried the two speciality restaurants, the Steak house and Sabatinis. Both were very good. The pizza restaurant was good as well. So many bars, but lots of quiet spaces to find some space. Read Less

Arrived Singapore with two full days before embark on Feb 28th. Split our nights between Sofitel City Center and Marina Bay Sands - while Marina Bay Sands is quite an experience and everyone should go see it, we preferred the overall elegance of the Sofitel. We booked in Club Class - essentially a nice sized, mini-suite sized cabin with some nice perks. Our cabin - Dolphin 329 - was quiet, in good shape and centrally located. My only gripe would be that the balcony had no privacy from cabins above us. Dining for Club Class is in the Santa Fe Grill - a lovely setting with nice decor and great acoustics. We were a table for eight and could actually hear from one end of the table to the other without shouting. The overall experience - food and service - we experienced was amazing - best non-specialty dining experience we've had on 20+ cruises across a fairly broad segment of the cruise industry offerings. We tried both specialty restaurants - Sabatini's was good; Sterling Steakhouse was a total disaster. We called on Bali, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Phuket - ship excursions in Bali and Phuket; private excursions in both Malaysian ports. Private excursions were excellent (Tours by Locals - Tony - in KL; Simply Enak - Liz - in Penang); ship excursions were acceptable (Bali) and unsatisfactory (Phuket - James Bond Island - 3+ hours each way on a bus...) In Summary - really enjoyed the itinerary and will definitely book Club Class again. Read Less

This cruise started in Singapore. We flew in a two days before and got a chance to see the city. Our hotel was a decent walk to the Marina Bay Sands and the Gardens by the Bay. Great location. the Gardens were some of the prettiest anywhere and the view from the top of the Marina Bay Sands was beautiful. We also did a general tour of the city that went to other districts. But I think we were in the prettiest area. Embarkation was very smooth. We got to the cruise terminal very early, so there was almost no line. We walked right up, got our room cards, went through security, and were in our room a few hours before the ship left port. Having been on the Regal, the Sapphire seems a little small, especially the buffet area. But it was easy to get around and had everything you need. We had a Club Class mini-suite, which was a very spacious cabin for the two of us. The extra space is nice, but the huge upgrade from a balcony to a mini-suite is that you have a real tub and a decent amount of counter space. Being Club Class also meant we had a special area of the dining room to eat in and an extra meal option every night. We ate in the buffet for breakfast and lunch, but had dinner in the dining room. We had a great waiter. The food in the buffet was average, almost the same breakfast choices every day. The food in the dining room was excellent. Just about everything we got was really flavorful and was absolutely beautiful to look at. I'm not normally a person who takes pictures of food, but some of those I had to. Portions were small, but enough for us. If it wasn't, our waiter was happy to bring a second or third of anything we wanted. Our waiter was the nicest guy. One change I was happy to see was that there were some local dishes on the menu each night. On previous cruises, the food was always American, no matter where in the world we were sailing. This time there were Asian style dishes that reflected where we were. The main reason we chose this cruise was the ports - all of them new to us. We hadn't been anywhere in Asia before. On Bali, we hired our own driver, arranged before the cruise. It is a tender port, and it took us a long time to get off the ship. Which meant we had to skip some of what we planned. We did get around the south and west part of the island. Tanah Lot is a temple right on the ocean, incredibly beautiful. We also went to a palace, and to some of the villages surrounding Ubud, each specializing in a different craft. We love woodwork, so we spent the most time with that. We ended the day at a small Balinese cafe on the beach. It is interesting to drive around. The roads are small, only two lanes. Almost every house has it's own temple, some simple and some very elaborate. And they're right next to modern stores and restaurants. There were two stops in Malaysia. On day in Kaula Lumpur. We did the ship's tour that included going up into the Petronas Towers and walking on the bridge between them. That was definitely worth doing. The bridge is at floor 41. After that, you go up to floor 83, which is where the visitors center is. Other than that, the city is just a city. It's very metropolitan. The next day was on Penang. We did a private tour with another couple, arranged on the Roll Call for the cruise. The highlights of the day was the funicular to the top of Penang Hill, Kek Lok Si temple, and the reclining Buddha temple. Kek Lok Si was amazing. It is enormous, and so pretty and so peaceful. We stopped at a food court. We all ordered things we recognized and our guide got us some local dishes for the table, something with yams and Malaysian ices. Both good, although they looked pretty strange. The last stop was Phuket. We took a bus to get to a smaller boat dock, where we boarded a speed boat, which took us out to the Phi Phi Islands for swimming, a lunch, and then some snorkeling. There are no words to describe how beautiful these islands and the ocean around them are. The days on the ship were relaxing and fun. Depending on your interests, there are lots of activities all day. I like the games and arty stuff. My brother did more of the exercise and sport stuff. We're not really show people, so I can't comment on that. We saw a comedian one night, who was pretty good. This was a really nice cruise, and I'd definitely recommend it. Read Less

we chose this cruise as it is a destination we hadn’t been to before, we were not disappointed. The Saphire is a lovely ship, very easy to find your way to dining rooms and activities, the entertainment on board is varied and suits all tastes, The Drop band had a good range of music and entertained us in club fusion, around the pool on at sea days and in the Explorers lounge. The trivia games were fun and tested our knowledge. The art auctions, balloon drop, deck parties and movies under the stars plus shows in Princess theatre provide entertainment for all. The tours were well organised by the excursion team were reasonably priced and interesting. Great service in the dining rooms especially for people with food intolerance. A new area we had not traveled. We chose Princess, because we think they are the Best. We have cruised on the Sapphire Princess before, it's a lovely ship, well maintained. We had a great balcony cabin on the Baja deck 11 port side. Embarkation was amazing, 15 minutes from taxi to our cabin. Disembarkation was almost as speedy. Airlines should take notes on how to get bags to claim area. We chose anytime dining, we like the flexibility, our waiters were the greatest. They made our dinners every evening a special occasion. Greeted us at the door of the dining room, had our wine ready for us, recommended special dishes. Entertainment was good most nights, singers and dancers terrific. We took shore excursions with Princess at every port, something we don't normally do, however thought it would be easier this trip. Most of the guides were good, fairly easy to understand. Beautiful temples, modern buildings mixed in with ancient architecture gave us insight into very different cultures. Thailand, one of our favorites. The vibrant city/country of Singapore is incredible. We spent 3days there pre cruise, took the hop on/off bus to help get a feel for the city. Wonderful restaurants, delicious food, friendly people. We are a couple in our early forties and chose this cruise for two reasons. Firstly, we had taken a cruise with P&O two years ago which was particularly average. Secondly, we felt that Princess did not actively encourage children due to its lack of giant water slides and variety of kids' clubs. We do like children, but prefer a relaxing holiday in the company of adults - and this opinion was shared by many passengers that we socialised with. We were not disappointed! The demographic was predominantly adults 35-70. The ship was clean, well appointed and the staff were just fantastic. We booked a mini-suite which was spotlessly clean and spacious. There was a great choice of bars and entertainment throughout the cruise and our shore excursions were efficient and represented good value. It is worth noting that the James Bond Islands tour involves almost a four hour return bus journey and the K.L. city journey is not short either. We probably would not have booked those tours had we known the travel time. The best part of this cruise was the staff. They went out of their way to be friendly and share a joke or two. The ship is so clean and well maintained with plenty to do. The drinks package is definitely good value and there is a huge variety of included cocktails to choose from. The bed and pillows were just divine! We will absolutely sail with Princess from now on and are already looking for our next destination! Read Less

A great crew and entertainment group, made this one of the best cruises we have taken. There was plenty to do on Sea Days and the food was very good. They did have some of the same items a few times, but very good. The ships entertainment was very good, the people they brought on, could have been better. All our ports were what we expected and we took some very good Princess Tours. Would go again, nice mid size ship. The pizza is one of the best of any cruise lines and is open all the time. Buffet was good and there was always a place to sit. Movies at sea are always fun and the cruise had most of the latest films out. The cabin steward was very good, worked with our odd schedule. The embarkation was quite easy and getting off again quite effortless. If you want a good cabin go with the mini suite. Read Less

I was surprised that I had a great time on this cruise, even though I was told by friends that the average age of guest on the Princess would be 65+ (I’m 38). The entertainment was fantastic, great shows every night and never the same, they also have outdoor movie sessions at night, great service from staff, variety of food choices from buffet to fine dining. The Princess also had art gallery exhibition which also included art auction. My tip is that make sure you buy a drink package bacuse the cost is in US dollars. We were a party of 8, and the gym on the Princess is better then most hotels! Shopping was average, the ship has 2 outdoor pools and 1 indoor pool. Day spa and treatments were great but pricey, best time to book day spa treatment is the day they have shore excursions as the prices drop. The casino was always busy. Didn’t like the shore excursion, would of rather stayed on the boat! Read Less

Chose this new, exotic destination for my husband and I and I believe it was our best cruise ever (we have cruised 6 times with Princess, a few times with Celebrity and once with Viking). Our upgrade to Princess Clubclass with its private dining, daily cocktail events and spacious mini-suite were the highlight of our trip - largely due to the outstanding service and wonderful relationships we were able to develop with the staff...hats off to Sapphire Princess for the excellent training of their club class staff. We also enjoyed another outstanding Chef’s Table - both the Chef and Pastry Chef are excellent on Sapphire Princess. We enjoyed Bohemian Rhapsody on the giant “Movies Under the Stars” screen. We had many shore excursion options and did one at each port...all were well co-ordinated with very good guides and drivers. Embarkation and disembarkation were relatively easy and very well organized. Princess did an outstanding job of dealing with the various customs for all countries, making our visits hassle-free, including in Vietnam where Princess procured our visas for us. Sapphire Princess is a beautiful ship with many dining rooms, eateries, stores, pools, bars, lounges and daily activities and this cruise was a beautiful, tropical cruise where even the weather co-operated. We wish we could do it again...tomorrow! The only painful part of our journey was the very long travel time from Calgary to Singapore. We flew United and upgraded to their Premium Economy seats on the Dreamliner, thinking it would be like Air Canada’s Premium Economy on their Dreamliner. Suffice it to say I will never fly United again - we were squished into our seats (we are only average size) and service was remarkably poor (non-existent) on the flight from San Fran to Singapore. We started planning this trip two years ago to coordinate 10 of us .. and then ended up with two more joining. Asia was a mystery to me and taking a cruise to an area I don't know much about is very appealing. The trip did not disappoint and we had an amazing time both on and off the ship. The ship: We have been on about 6 Princess cruises and this was one of the best. We had set dining time and our two table of 6 were well taken care of. The service in general, from the cabin stewards, to bar tenders , to deck staff etc was excellent. The entertainment was by far the best I have ever seen on a ship. The tenders and the port disembarkations were all organized and handled so well. The port talks were interesting and catered both to those taking Princess excursions as well as private ones or doing a port on your own. The Ports: Singapore- We started off with 4 nights at the Holiday Inn Express at Clarke Quay. This was one of the more modest priced hotels and was in an excellent location, with great amenities. A full buffet breakfast, a nice pool and deck, unlimited bottled water, cell phones for your use during the stay. Would definitely recommend. Singpore is the most beautiful city. Very easy to get around on the MRT and we felt safe everywhere. Check out the Lua Pau Sat Hawker market. We went to others but this was the best. Some of the musts: Gardens by the Bay (do the domes and the light show), a trip up Marina Bay Sands (don't do the observation deck- buy a ticket to the bar and $22 dollars buys you a drink and a view as opposed to the $28 for just the view), Sentosa cable car, take the MRT to Chinatown, Little India, Bugis street and Arab street. Nowhere in this city is the same. The Marina Bay water/light show is great too. Really loved everything about this city. Koh Samui- We took a taxi to Bophut and enjoyed looking in the markets and the beach is lovely. Had an amazing massage on the beach for the equivalent of 10 Canadian dollars. If you feel like a beer- don't go into a restaurant- buy it at 7-11. The water was nice to swim in but later found out about sea lice, which are harmless but wondered what was nipping at us. Bangkok- We did a private tour rebooked with Thai Tour Guide. This was a great day with a very knowledgable guide Ms Aom. All my communications with this company were fantastic and we were well looked after. Saw the Grand Palace, The reclining Bhudda, took a long tail boat ride and went for lunch.. Ho Chi Min City- We had booked a private tour with Tour by Xuan. It really was a highlight. Our guide Mr. Lee just made our day.. so fun. We walked through markets, saw historical sites, did a trip shaw ride, crossed the road (which in itself is an excursion!) had vietnamese coffee, a really tasty lunch, visited the war museum. Highly highly recommend this company. Penang- We did this on our own as the boat docks right in Georgetown. It was an extremely hot day when we were here. We went to the Peranakan Museum which showed the lifestyle of the rich over a century ago. We really enjoyed this - not expensive to get into and very good tour guide. The rest of the day was spent trying to get out of the heat. A little hard to get around- no sidewalks in most places. The place comes alive after dark and we found fantastic food on Chulia street night hawker stalls. We then grabbed a Tri Shaw back to the ship. Phuket- Here we did the ships tour to Phi Phi Islands. I prefer private tours, however, there are some places I feel more comfortable with the ship's tour. This is definitely one of those if headed out to Phi Phi. Our boat had 35 people and I would not have wanted to be on anything smaller. This trip is marked as strenuous and as soon as I saw the dock with had to walk to get to the boat I understood why. About 15 of us headed out on a rolling dock with very little handrails until they stopped us and decided to bring boats in closer. I have the video to prove I braved the walk. haha. About an hour of hitting waves - but it was all worth it. The beauty of this area is astounding. We snorkelled for about 45 min and swam... then stopped in at a couple other bays for photo ops. Then to Bamboo island to spend time on the beach. We also had lunch at a resort we had to wade into which was pretty cool. This tour is definitely not for anyone with any mobility issues. or perhaps sea sickness. For us it was very good, and again worth the travel time. I was not aware that this voyage was considered two different cruises when I booked. One was a 7 day and one was a 4 day. Not sure I would knowingly do that again, as everything repeated itself on the four days... but we did get bonus internet time being platinum and it refreshed for the 4 day cruise. Make sure you plan all your stops ahead. It would have been overwhelming had we not known what we were doing in these ports. Most were far away from where the ship docked. For those who want to see Asia but are not too sure of how to do that... this is the perfect way to go! Enjoy! Read Less
