We encountered a rude room steward (not our room steward) that just appeared out of nowhere very rude to us. Also, Crew need to be more careful when cleaning the area above the Mini Suites rooms. Dirty water pouring into our open balcony making everything dirty. During Muster Drill, discovered many people lifevests lights faulty. I asked crew @ Muster Drill, they told me to ask my room steward to replace the faulty lifevests. I did as told, but the room steward did not replace those faulty lifevests. My room steward just shoved it back into the cupboard. I am speechless. Very lazy room steward. Day 1-2, did not clear sofa bed, no tissue box from day 1, dirty bed linens not changed, bath tubs did not clean properly can see hairs etc at the sides. I went to Front Desk about this. Front Desk sent another group of housekeeping staffs, who did a wonderful job at cleaning the room properly. We still give tip to the room steward. The ship has an excellent executive housekeeping Rui who has just arrived in the ship. I am sure with him around, the quality of service of housekeeping can dramatically improved! We enjoyed the food onboard! Hope Princess Cruise can bring back the Parmesan Basket for Fettucinne Alfredo. It is one of the best dishes of Princess Cruise. I used to have that every night when cruising with Princess Cruise. Looking forward to cruising with Princess again. Read Less

Took a short cruise as wasn't sure if everyone would like it. We all wish it had been longer. There were 7 of us. Ages 68, 2 young 40's, 2 19 yr olds, a 16 yr old and one 11 year old. The 11 year old joined the kid's club and preferred to stay on board to be with her new friends than go out with us touring. The parents felt good about leaving her with the minders on board as there were child protection rules put in experience. place. The 16 year old came on 2 trips on shore and then chose to also stay on board. I too chose to stay on board & participate in what was happening on board, rather than go out . The 2 19 yr old had a great time with DJ Anthony and the nightclub and karaoke shows. The service was excellent and the rooms were spotless and ready for us every time we came back from whatever we were doing. The food was well presented, and so much to choose from. You could literally eat any time of the day or all day if you wanted, The cruise catered to all our age group. This cruise was so well run that I was amazed at the efficiency and speed at everything ran. From the time of booking online to when we disembarked I cannot fault anything. Our cabin, E725, and service to the cabin was excellent. There were 4 of us in a balcony cabin. I loved the balcony. Fell asleep twice on the balcony and a great place to be alone and read or write. The cruise director Ted & his staff organised some great events/shows and entertainment. The entertainers were of a high standard, Yuri & Nato for example. Loved it. Well done to the team that made this trip an awesome experience. I will do another cruise with Princess cruises. Read Less

we took this cruise because of timing 21 days was just right however we did not realise when we booked that in fact this was a 2 cruise sector going up and down from Singapore . however the cruises were fine the ship is getting a bit jaded but overall is good the service was first class the meals were fine and our cabin C105 was very good and plenty of space and quiet what we did not like was the lack of staff to enforce the rules regarding kids in the adult swimming pool as sometimes the pool was so full of kids it was impossible to get in it. also formal dining is a joke people walked in with t shirts and short pants why have formal nights if you state formal enforce the rule in the dining room otherwise don't bother to have formal nights we have sailed with many other companies such as Holland America and P&O UK and the rules are enforced Read Less

Asia. Was quite disappointed as most of the ports were far away from main destinations, and there is nothing at the ports. The best port was Kota Kinabalu because it is within walking distance to the city. We managed to get local taxis in Phy My, tuk tuk driver in Sihanoukville and a bargain on a taxi in Laem Chabang. No need to take expensive tours from the cruise as the buses have set places and times so there is no adventuring! Its very easy to get local taxis to take you around. Just make sure they know some English and you will be ok. Food is not too bad in the main dining rooms. We chose the eat anytime option, and it worked for us as we usually have dinner at 8.30pm. Entertainment was not very interesting, and the staff are not very good at getting audience participation at karaokes and dance nights. The DJs are not good at music selections. The bar staff are not too enthusiastic at recommending drinks to get the mood going. Overall it was so so. Read Less

We chose this cruise for its value and destinations. Our cruise ticked all the boxes, the weather was perfect making for smooth sailing. On board the staff were excellent meeting all our needs willingly and they made us feel like family particularly our dining staff. The food was just amazing we can honestly say we did not have one bad meal. We enjoyed all the shows in the Princess Theater and Peter Sweeney's talks on the battles fought in the area were inspiring. We cannot speak highly enough of the organisation of the Princess crew in embarkation, disembarkation and the day excursions. Spot on! We had one disappointment and that was our excursion to Phuket. The area where we were dropped did not give us the best impression of the destination. This could be improved. This was our only negative. It was sad when the cruise came to an end. Have sailed on 3 Princess cruises. This cruise was a disappointment. Very disorganized. Ship needs updated. Tender disembarkation a nightmare. Internet access very bad. Dinner menu very uninteresting. My husband ordered the Alfredo from the nightly available items 4 times! All meat except the tenderloin, very tough. Our room steward not accessible. Never answered 3 o f our pages. Never received bag tags for disembarkation. Didn't deliver passports in a timely fashion at end of cruise. We also used Princess air for airplane reservations and this was also a nightmare. Too much to go into here. The ship to airport transfer dropped us early in the morning and we were stuck with all our luggage until 3:30 pm because airline didn't open check in until then, Spent a day in Singapore prior to boarding. Very lovely place, worth seeing. Would not take this cruise again. Kota Kinabalu port not worth the time. Needed more time in Saigon and Bangkok. 2 1/2 hours from port to city is ridiculous. It seemed like Princess just tried to fill port time with anything it could find. Could skip half of these ports. Read Less

We chose this cruise as we haven’t cruised to this area before. Pros; the ship is great, a bit old but clean. Our room was excellent as was our steward. We had one for 11 days, then he went on holiday & we had someone else for the rest of the cruise. We couldn’t fault either of them. Our room was always ready when we came back from breakfast & he gave us 2 extra towels every day. Food was lovely. We were in Vivaldi for our main meal 5:30 sitting. I wouldn’t pick that again as it was a bit rushed as next sitting was 7:30. Meals were always hot & served quickly. Medium sized portions , but you could have 2 if you wanted to. The buffet was excellent, great choices, some variety each day, always hot food. Great desserts. Staff in the shops were friendly & helpful, but I didn’t buy much as we were on a budget. We could always get a lounge around the pool, the staff were good at getting rid of stuff that wear just left by lounge hogs. Cons; Staff in some bar areas were inattentive, we always had to find a waiter to take our orders. They were standing around in groups talking a lot of the time. Shops were extremely expensive even for duty free, some things I can get back home cheaper. On the Emerald Princess there seemed to be more of a selection of items to buy at reasonable prices. We missed that aspect. No towel animals.... Read Less

Having sailed with several other cruise lines, I have to say that the service we received from every single member of the Princess team was first class. Better than we have ever experienced from any other company. That said, there are a few areas where Princess really let themselves down on this trip. The Sapphire is due for a complete refurbishment in the next couple of months so it was no surprise that it is looking a little tired. However, I didn't like the fact that they started doing maintenance work during our trip. There were a couple of areas of the buffet restaurant roped off while something was being done to some large cabinets, right by the entrance. They also did some painting on the top deck without putting any 'wet paint' signs up. We found this out when my wife happened to get paint on a brand new top she was wearing. Although an attempt to dry clean (free of charge) was made, the top was ruined and came back in worse condition. Sanding and varnishing work was also being done on some hand rails around the swimming pool, with guests in very close proximity. Other things that were not so good - The Captain was almost anonymous. The only time we saw him was when he made a very brief welcome speech. He was not seen by any of our party walking the decks or otherwise socialising with the guests. The only time we heard from him was when he announced an itinerary change caused by bad weather. None of the bars stocked slim line tonic water and the Horizon buffet restaurant was perhaps the poorest of its type that I have experienced in a dozen cruises. Apart from Horizon (the buffet restaurant), the restaurant food was of a good standard with plenty of choice most nights. We did try both the speciality restaurants during the cruise, with very different results. Sabatinis was excellent throughout. Great service and fantastic food. The Steakhouse however turned out to be a curtained off section of the Horizon Buffet. The curtains did not stop other guests walking through throughout the meal. We even had one person walk through in their pyjamas! This totally destroyed any ambiance, it was difficult to relax and worst of all, of the six main courses our party had, we had to send two of them back. I would mention two members of the entertainment staff. Ted, the Cruise Director and Amy, the Assistant Cruise Director. Ted is a lovely guy and clearly very intelligent, however, he is in need of a new script. His repertoire when speaking on stage is very unimpressive. "Give me an oooh" and Give me an aaah" does not go down well with a mainly adult audience, a significant percentage of which do not have English as their first language. And as for his jokes - I have never witnessed so many tumbleweed moments. On the other hand, Amy Alderson was a pleasure to know. She made every effort to get to know our group and was absolutely charming. A credit to Princess, I am sure a promotion will not be too far away, she deserves it and I am willing to bet that she tells a better joke than Ted. There were two very talented violinists playing each evening in the atrium. We certainly enjoyed their music, but would it have hurt them to smile occasionally? All performances in the theatre were of a very high standard. The dance troupe were excellent and the visiting artists all very entertaining. Especially David Knight, the Hypnotist. Our stateroom with balcony was comfortable, although I am sure that the shower was shrinking throughout the trip. There was certainly less room in it at the end than there was at the beginning. Perhaps it was me getting bigger!! Adrian, our Stateroom attendant was excellent, very helpful, always smiling and always in the background if we needed him. I did like the idea of the ship holding onto our passports throughout the cruise. They looked after most of the immigration issues, which made getting on and off the boat at all the different locations much easier. However, the issue with Cambodia and visa requirements was very poorly communicated prior to the cruise. This resulted in us spending more on a visa than we needed to, because we had unnecessarily sorted it out before leaving the UK. We only went on one excursion organised by Princess and that was in Borneo, to the Mari Mari museum. Excellent and would recommend. All the other excursions were organised by the company we booked the cruise through. The gym was very busy most mornings, so you need to pick your timings. There was a lack of cycle machines compared to cross trainers, but all equipment was in good condition All in all, a terrific holiday in which the staff of Princess contributed significantly to our enjoyment, for which I thank them. Sapphire Princess just doesn't seem to be able to get it right. We were on this ship 2 years ago with similar problems; this time it was worse (we went on the Diamond Princess last year which was a little better) - which makes me think that there is something specific to the management and culture of this ship (and possibly the owners' reluctance to do something about it). PLEASE if you feel that the following problems become apparent on your cruise, go to customer services and remove the automatic gratuities. It can be done but many people aren't aware and I think the drop in gratuities is the only way that the ship and company will become motivated to do something. Service - very patchy ranging from grumpy stewards who basically seemed to think it was just a bit too much hard work to do anything (waiters who, with an empty tray, walked past dirty tables and left it to me to tidy and clean the area (the bar man was helpful though - he gave me a few cloths so that I could clean up the mess left by previous table occupants(!)) ; waiters who simply ignored tables at breakfast and didn't ask if we would like a drink; a person at the door to Santa Fe restaurant who seemed to make it their mission to persuade passengers to go elsewhere for food (not positive and proactive just negative and dismissive. (Didn't offer a buzzer that would tell us when a table was free - we had to ask for it)). In terms of leadership and organisation - again it was F&B that let the ship down mainly. The bar on Deck 14 at the back of the ship - was always staffed with just one person - and he had to make cocktails and serve a crowded bar. It was absolutely ridiculous that with so many people they put one person on the bar - very frustrating. The bar above this one - Deck 15 or 16? - was never open. Why on earth was a bar on a ship never open? Cost cutting? Laziness? Forgetfulness? Whatever the reason - not good enough. Half way through a 10 day cruise the ship ran out of mint for cocktails. I can just about forgive this as it is a fresh herb (but I question why they would advertise things like mojitos if the logistics won't support the drinks). What was unforgivable was the cheapest sparkling wine - Korbel - ran out after 5 days. Similarly, Grolsch (beer) ran out after 5 days and Heineken after 7 days. Who on Earth is in charge of supplies for this ship? To add insult to injury, the staff did not replace with a similar value drink, you had to just choose something else and pay that higher price. Some waiters were rude in their dealings with passengers. I heard much chatter about the ship about the disappointment of others in the attitude of staff. Customer service in piazza was hit and miss. Pleasant and friendly yes. But in terms of getting accurate information - no. They told me that the ship was docking at Patong not Phuket Town - which meant that I had to hastily rearrange our transport. They said that a person would come along to fix our TV (all the ship's TVs were out of action for at least 24 hours (I think ours was more like 36 (the ship did credit each passenger $25 for this)) - the guy never showed up. However, if the staff are trying to get you to buy something they are super efficient: "You'd like an over priced photo of yourself? Certainly sir - done." Seriously, whoever has allowed such a cynical, unprofessional culture to develop needs firing. For the sake of balance, there were some positives. I'm a food addict and I didn't think the food was at all bad. The afternoon tea in Horizon Buffet was terrible - very weak selection of cakes and nibbles (especially compared with other ships) - but I thought the selection in the buffet for main meals was very good. And good quality also. I also enjoyed the Santa Fe restaurant (when we were actually let in) both in terms of the quality of food and the helpfulness of the staff. Only had one problem one night when the roast belly pork (advertised as having lots of crackling) was anaemic, fatty and with not an ounce of crackllng - waiter was very good though and dealt with it professionally. Our housekeeper was also excellent - very efficient, very friendly. I note previous comments about the state of the ship. That didn't bother me too much - our cabin was very nice and the communal spaces were OK. So overall it was the Food and Beverage service and logistics that really made me decide I'm not going on Princess again. They simply do not care enough to receive my money. Read Less
