As a third time cruiser on other lines many years ago- but a friend was taking me I was trying to save them money. What a horrible mistake choosing this old tugboat. From beginning to end there were so many things wrong. We got an inside cabin - actually not a problem in itself. The cabin crew were wonderful and attentive. The cabin was fine. The staff at the Hospitality desk were overwhelmed and it showed in their ability to serve in a friendly way. Almost everything was extra. We originally ordered the non alcoholic drinks package as neither drink. It was 96 Euro's for 40 drinks for the week for 2 people.we got a glass of mineral water at dinner in the restaurant..The package included; water, iced tea, non alcoholic cocktails, sodas and juices. Neither of us drink Pepsi products, nor peach iced tea or lemon ice tea, or juices or sweet non alcoholic drinks (non of this was spelled out in the drink package) or we would not have ordered it. We cancelled it and were refunded our money but made to feel guilty. The staff were completely disorganized in most matters. For shore excursions we all met in the theater and had to show our tickets to get a bag lunch. The crowds were huge and pushy and the staff had no idea how to crowd control. The same with the Buffet lines. People just pushed in front of you and grabbed meat off the platter and piled it on their plate and left and left you waiting patiently for a new batch of grilled meats. It was a free for all! Now for the food: It was terrible and unrecognizable. There were terrines of a ground vegetable dish that was reincarnated days later in another fashion as an appetizer. There were virtually NO fresh vegetables except for sliced cooked carrots at breakfast??? There was a small salad choice at dinner. Most of the food was unpalatable. No matter how many courses it was still not enough or good enough. The the came around the table and showed you a menu of additionally priced choices; lobster (which was so small 4 people I spoke with made the Maitre 'D take it off their bill. My friend is handicapped and was disappointed at the short amount of time on the excursion - time in the city - compared to the hours of getting there. 2.5 hours to Florence and 2.5 hours back and about 3 hours in the city. Same in Rome. Even able bodied people complained of the pace and it was on your own. We were dropped off quite a distance from main venues and with so many tourists it was difficult to see what you wanted -even the highlights. We tried to cancel our Marseille tour due to his not being able to tolerate the pace we were told in a very snippy and not compassionate way that in no terms were we able to cancel our excursion. However one of the staff told me it would be no problem to cancel. In fact several other passengers tour were accidentally cancelled and they were upset. We were told he needed to see the ship Doctor and pay 62 Euros to get a medical certificate to cancel and that would NOT include my ticket! Ridiculous. The "Doctor" looked like a washed up degenerate alcoholic. We left very upset. The entertainment was pitiful. This was a disaster from beginning to end. All the Americans we spoke with felt exactly the same way and will be filing complaints as well. Read Less

We were travelling as a group of 8 to celebrate a special birthday. We chose this cruise line and this cruise due ro the date and location being roughly mid- way as both families travelled from opposite parts of the globe. Both families are experienced cruisers and this certainly was an experience to remember- but not in a good way! The best thing about this cruise was the company and we made the best of it. We made our own fun. From embarkation to disembarkation the cruise was characterised by chaos, low quality and staff indifference. Embarkation was painfree dor us due ro being in suites but overall this process waa not well managed so the very first customer experience was bot a good one. There were lengthy waiting lines at the hospitality desk and once you got to the top of the queue you were met by disinterested staff! In terms of food, this was poor in terms of qualiry of ingredients and taste. Night after night there was a sameness about the dining experience and I know costa's meals do not reflect good Italian fare. Average is the word I would use to describe the food. I would say this is a budget cruise line and you get what you pay for. Sometimes you don't get what you paid for- other reviews have mentioned that the pool slide was not working and I find it hard to comprehend that this had not been fixed from previous cruises. Limited availability of hand sanitizer so I was pleased we brought our own... We were in suites so were able to eat in Conde Grande- we breakfasted here as we wanted to join our friends for dinner each night. Highlight of the breakfast was the salmon that was available. The offerings from the menu here were bizarre and lacklustre.particularly memorable were the overcooked hard poached eggs- the same every day and inedible! Our suite was clean although we only sighted our butler twice and his English was poor so we stopped asking him for help. E.g. he didn't seem to understand about restocking the mini bar with the beverages we selected. It was good to have toiletries in this cabin but housekeeping didn't seem to realise that these needed to be restocked when they had been finished. Service around the ship was generally slow whether this be in the dining rooms or bars. Staff didn't seem to understand more than simple phrases and so it was difficult to engage with them. There was a distinct nonchalance and lack of responsibility when we pointed out something that needed to be changed. I put this down to a lack of customer service and training and ultimately costa not valuing their staff or the customer experience. I simply cannot recommend Costa as a cruise line and have already booked another cruise with Celebrity- our cruise line of choice. Read Less

We travel in a party of 11 which every one is experienced cruise traveller. The only reason that our family chose this cruise is the period time of the cruise. I am so disappointed with almost every thing including poor boarding, bad dinner, stinct lobster, worst breakfast, too limited choices of lunch, wrong, ineffective and annoying announcement, poor quality announcer, too limited tender boats causing too long line, bad organizing, etc. It took us more than an hour for boarding with limited assistance of staff. The only meat I found at breakfast was corned beef, no sausage, bacon nor ham. Pork bun was terrible. At dinner, the lobster we ordered and was supposed to pay extra was stinct. It was probably frozen for years thus the meat was unfresh and yucky. Supervisor seemed to avoid responsibility once first informed. At an island where anchored, only 3 tender boats with a capacity of 110 pax per boat were prepared. Only passengers who bought excursions can disembark at 8 a.m. Queing of the rest passengers lasted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Every one has to come back to boat before 4.30 p.m.!!! What an absurd organizing. I encountered the problems with cabin facilities including hair dryer, hot water and blinking light. The latter was not able to solve even the technician came. Announcement was made with wrong information and ineffectively. It was made in the early morning to room thus annoying sleeping guests. Oh...there is a lot more to share. That should be enough to refrain all potential travelers from the ship. What a horrible cruise. The worst ever indeed. Read Less

Just come back from Costa Fortuna, can never be worse! 1. My wife got hurt seriously in one of the viewing elevator with a narrower inner half. She got bumped at the sharp angle while forcing back by an incoming flooding crowd of passengers. Why didn't they installed some protective layers on the angles to protect their customers? 2. Shower: very weak. Repairman said already fixed. Hard to take bath normally! 3. Air conditioning: too warm. Repairman said already fixed. Must be on. No one can turn it off. You just can change the combination of hot air and cold air. The problem was even we turn it to all cold air, it is still pumping out warm air. It made us sick throughout the journey. 4. Difficult to locate some restaurants. No straight road. You have to go upstairs and go downstairs again to some of the places. 5. Not really free from smoking in non-smoking areas, both outdoor & indoor! 6. Change of itinerary with short notice. 7. No free toothbrushes, no free toothpaste, no free bottled water. Why didn't they inform us in advance? 8. Only two sockets (including one in bathroom) for 2-round-pin electric plug, no sockets for 3-flat-pin electric plug type G (that of United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Malaysia & Singapore etc.). No changer, adaptor or extended sockets provided. 9. No free Wi-Fi and all paid Wi-Fi are very weak. Passengers of cabin 1005, 26th to 30th December, 2017 (with Vietnam onshore on 2017.12.28). Last time, my wife and I took Carnival triumph and we had a great experience. So I decided to took my family and relatives to Naha, Japan on June. 16, 2017 by Costa Fortuna. It is the worst travel trip ever. Dinner table management is disaster. People who went on time at 7:30pm has to wait at least 30 minutes to get in and they did not let anyone even when they have empty seats. So all second run people come in together at the same time, it turned out food service is very slow and then everyone missed their show time. Seafood is not fresh, and beef is over cooked, there’s no much change on food too. on the upper deck, they have basketball court but there’s no basketball to borrow. They expect people take their children with their own basketball? Come on~ Costa is out of my cruise company list. It is the worst cruise ever. I went for honeymoon and I have been in Norgweian and Princess cruises before and I was thinking that this was almost the same but this one was a dissaster. Firstly in general the staff was unfriendly and even rude. the food was terrible just mainly pizza and pasta and if you want a piece of meat you have to pay additional. my waitter was rude , unfriendly and lacking of peronal higene. you have to pay additionally for the water on the restaurant. many hidden cost and the buffet closes for long times on the afternoon. if you arrive from your excursion at 4 pm you have to wait until 7 pm to get some cheap food. the cabin luckly was made once per day and no more , even one day the didn´t make the room but the tips are still copulsory. snacks was just pizza margherita and a LOT of bread. ice cream additional. You can have breakfast at the restaurant but takes a lot, if you go to the buffet you cannot get even an omelet. again just bread. it is just best to AVOID costa as it seems that they want to save every single penny tranfered to bad experience for the customers. The cruise per se was O.K. but did not exceed expectations. After much encouragement from friends, who often go on cruises, we decided to try one out. We wanted a small cruise so we drove to Savona and got on the Costa Fortuna, which is a large boat. Impressed in the beginning we later realized that big size is not an advantage. There were too many people and from all nationalities: orientals, blacks, muslim, etc. The food was average and there was no flexibility as to where we sit for dinner. The personnel was polite but they generally had very poor knowledge of Western languages! The excursions were too expensive so we opted out. The cabin was O.K. but coming back home we found a bedbug, my wife was bitten several times and she is allergic to insect bites. We were alarmed and began house cleaning, boiling sheets, vacuuming everything, etc. and my wife slept in the living-room for ten days. So far neither she nor I have been bitten again, so we hope that the bedbug we killed was the only one we got, and that it was a male! By now we hope that any offsprings should have manifested themselves. I give Costa the worst note possible because when I brought the issue up with them, they dismissed it for lack of proof! We had no bugs like that in our home and we found one bug 3 days after we got back from the cruise. How much more proof can there be? If it weren't for the bedbug, it would have been an "average" type of cruise not to get too excited about. If we ever go again, we will try to save money ahead of time and go for a more expensive (hopefully higher quality) cruise. Read Less

Our family and friends has been looking forward to this cruise for a long time, it was our first time on Costa Fortuna (we've been on several other cruises before). We are so disappointed and frankly, upset about the way they treated us throughout the trip. The worst part is, there were BED BUGS (as several of our group was bitten) and many of us was diagnosed with allergic reaction to these bites even weeks after the trip. The Boat - The ship itself is much smaller and older than other cruises. - Activities are made for people who either own a COSTA card or speak Italian/French. Not particularly friendly to outside tourists. The Rooms - Wifi cost 30 Euros an hour. And boy it is super slow. - The rooms are decent, we didn't have any issues with the room itself. - Bedsheets, towels, or wherever the bed bugs lived on, is DISGUSTING. Of course everything is bleached so by the looks of it, everything (looked) clean but clearly many of us that experienced these bites have a lot to say about the hygiene of their sheets!!! The Food - Not great but we expected this given our past experiences with cruises. - Prepare to pay to drink water. In the past, water as given to us at no additional cost. On the trip, it would cost 25 Euro for drinking water a day. The Service - If I could give negative stars, I would. Throughout the cruise, we were astonished by the quality of service received from our rooms, the restaurants and management. - Rooms: Because we lived in suites and was paired with butler service, there has been snarky remarks made by these staff to us about asking for additional towels, water etc. - Restaurants: They make it very difficult to order (often serving the wrong dishes that we ordered), but maybe, they are very understaffed/stressed/underpaid. But when we make any sort of request (nicely of course) we are shut down by rude responses and answers. - Medical: When some of our group members found out they had bed bugs bite, the doctor on board told us that it would be "impossible" to have gotten it from the boat since bed bugs can't live in this type of ventilation (thinking we are dumb). They charged us quite heavily for the medicine and IV and did not offer in any way to compensate for it. When we clearly stated the obvious pattern as more of our group got the same diagnosis, which we received these bites DURING the cruise and SLEEPING ON THEIR BED, they reluctantly told us to submit a request to their management. Of course we did, and received a slap in the face by the team claiming they don't have the authority to grant our request for medical claim (or any sort of apology really). The only thing they offered was laundry service for the clothes and a change of room (because obviously, they know it is bed bugs). Till today, we still have NOT RECEIVED any word from them. - Bonus: One of the room service personnel told us in confidante that in the past, there has been many bed bugs incidents. Still denying?? We are appalled and strongly suggest that you DO NOT take any of Costa Fortuna's cruise lines unless you want to also get bitten and spend weeks of applying medicine to your bites all over your body AND get treated horribly throughout the cruise. We have not travelled on the Costa line for 3 years and the change was beyond belief. No carafe water was served in the dining room at any time. Bottled water was available, of course, at a cost and including a service charge. Tea and coffee were available at breakfast, but not at lunch or dinner, unless one was prepared to pay for specialist drinks. The buffet closed at 5 p.m. for everything except iced water, (no hot water available after this time). We do not drink alcohol or soft drinks so this made it more difficult. Food quality was very poor. One lunch time we left the dining room, after an inedible meal, and were so hungry we had to go to the buffet. There was no steak served at any time, in the dining room, and one could have prawns or lobster, but at a price-- this in the ordinary dining room. We remember the quality and variety of the meals that used to be served, and it seems such a shame that it has deteriorated so badly. We are pearl members and chose this cruise for the excellent itinerary, but will never travel with Costa again, while present policy holds. The entertainment was poor, probably more suited to children. Shore excursions, that we were able to do, were excellent, but few available on the first leg of our cruise, as there were few English speakers. After having two tours cancelled we had to tell the tour office that we would be happy to take any tour, but still had tours cancelled late on the day before a tour, and after the tour office closed, so too late to organise anything else. We had pre- booked, weeks before embarkation. Staff and crew were generally excellent, except in the dining room, where there were too few waiters for meals, and too many drinks waiters. The ship was very pretty, but lacking in lounge areas; standing room only in the evenings, after first dining, unless one wanted to sit in the theatre. Comparing it to the 5 other cruise lines we have travelled, Costa does not give value for money. Read Less

This was my first cruise, and would have been my last , but as my wife has cruised several times before she was able to assure me that this wasn't typical!!! It didn't start well when despite having enquired when booking that we could settle dining times on arrival , we were allocated 6-00pm , there are only two times this or 8-30pm, we meet the Maitre the next day who rather off hand said if we had paid more for our cabin maybe we could have picked a dining time, I persisted and on day 3 we got the later dining sitting. However the trip got worse as we were in cabin 6420 which seemed at first OK it smelt rather damp but the worst thing was that it was directly over a lounge/ disco on deck 5, the noise was so loud that it vibrated the floor.Despite calls to Customer services with no answer, I then went at midnight to the Customer Services Desk, and complained and was meet with a "lack of interest at best" darn right rudeness at worst, the best they could promise was that it might stop at 12-30/1-00am!! which have to say it did at last! next day we asked to move our cabin , we were told the ship was full, this turned out to be untrue, we were also told we get lots of complaints "about noise on this ship". With exception of Laura the English hostess all the European staff we unhelpful and in some circumstances rude. On the contrary the Asian and Oriental staff we helpful and courteous. On deck on a sunny day you couldn't find a sun bed after 10-00am, and there was pretty little room to move around. At no time were we encouraged to use the hand gel dispensers, that were available sometimes, and not at all on some restaurant entrances, we did not see any one cleaning handrails etc. throughout the entire trip. The Costa crew give you the impression that they really don't care On the 7 day cruise we spent about 40% of the time was cruising, on two occasions the ship was moored up for 36 hours in ports, clearly Costa make a lot of money on the day trips. The TV was appalling if you were English speaking as the only channel BBC news disappeared for 3 days,, and we were told that they had to run a safety film, this didn't stop 3- Italian, I- Russian,2- German, 1-Chinese,1-French Channels. Needless to say all the Brits, Americans,Canadians and the Scandinavians were really hacked off. From discussions around with lots of other guests who had cruised many times before this was the very worst they had experienced. The food was average, breakfast at the two main locations was a second rate buffet, water service with coffee does not make up for congealed and overdone food! Evening dinner was served by diligent really helpful staff, but they broke the rules to serve coffee to finish with, as this was not normally available at your table|!!! Wi Fi if you can get it to work cost 40 euros an hour and its very slow!!! I can find very little to recommend this cruise at all, Costa really need to up there game I know of at least 6 couples who left saying never again!!!   Read Less

PRE-cruise: All information received in German - despite the fact that I repeatedly emailed the company and asked to have the information sent in English. ARRIVAL cabin: cabin was much smaller than the described (mini-suite, 8 Days / 4800 USD 2 per) believe they have figured the balcony of the equation. No stewards in sight for the first 4 hours. The information - which lay on the bed - in German! In other a dull sour smell from the bathroom. Information from the speaker system: The first 2 days - no information in English. Therefore, we participated neither in the "mandatory" rescue exercise. And we were not wanted. Balcony: You pay for a mini-suite, so you must expect good 2 chairs and a table at balcony. It was plenty of room for this, but there were no chairs and only a small table (dirty with paint residues) EXCURSIONS: No excursions with English guide, neither in Buenos Aries. Montevideo, Porto Belo and Santos. It was a great disappointment to us that we did not want to conduct tours of the few English speaking guests. SHIP general: Crowded, unorganised and certainly not standard as Royal Caribbean. Self-service restaurant: Boring range, long queues, lack of cleaning. The restaurant (Dinner) Beautiful, tasty set menus good service. All in all, our fears struck. We will NEVER participate in cruises with Costa company more, and can certainly not recommend it. This trip was destined for doom the minute we stepped out of our vehicle at the port. We left out of Ft. Lauderdale. Embarkation was quick, easy and smooth and the people were very nice. Would have liked to have their attitudes on the ship. When we got on the ship we went and found our rooms and got refreshed before going exploring. There was a total of 26 of us. We booked through an internet travel agency that we've dealt with for the past 5 years and have never had problems. My family and I quickly discovered that half of us had early seating and half had late even though we have ALWAYS requested to have early seating dinner. So we quickly went to the dining room and at first was told by the rude maitre'd that there was nothing we could do and it wasn't there fault it was the travel agent. We phone our travel agent and he was actually able to email me through my phone the documents that showed EVERYONE in my party had early seating. I quickly took this back to the dining room and was told they couldn't fix it till tomorrow night after everyone had been seated and things had settled down. We said OK. Dinner that evening was very slow and the food not so good but we realize the first night out is always the craziest while the crew works to get passengers settled into their assigned seats. When we returned the next night to dinner we were told the same thing. They would fix it tomorrow. I said absolutely not and if they were not able to fix it tonight we'd sit where we wanted. We had 6 small children ranging in ages from 6 months to 9 years and there is no way they could possibly wait till 830 to eat. We werent expecting to be sat together but in several tables near each other. Needless to say the problem was NEVER resolved and we ended up being put at 5 or 6 tables around the dining room and just had to rotate each night so all could sit with each other at least once. The food was mediocre at best and one evening when my husband attempted to return his steak because he asked for it rare and it was brought to him medium well (and that's being generous) he was given the dirtiest look. The service itself was VERY slow and forget trying to get a coke, beer, wine, drink of any kind from the bar steward in the dining room. There was entertainment one night in the dining room and the waiters sang amazingly. The demographic throughout the ship was older European and some of the most rudest and offensive people I have ever seen. I have a problem with grown woman walking around topless on the ship around the pool when I have small children about. I'm pretty sure our group were the only Americans on the ship. Our cabin steward Mika was the absolute best cabin steward I've ever had from any cruise. He was the highlight for us. He was very gracious and always had the cutest towel animals ready for my little girl in her crib. She loved it! The crew at the purser's desk were as rude as the passengers. Several times we called to complain about the a/c in our room and nothing was ever done about it. The entertainment on the ship was mediocre. The best show was the elton john impersonator. The singers and dancers were ok. There was one female singer who couldn't carry a note to save a sinking battleship. We walked out on several of the shows. We made the cruise ourselves, because costa did nothing to help us have a memorable and wonderful cruise. Their definition of pepperoni pizza is "hot dog" on top of a cheese pizza. I have pictures for proof if anyone would like them. The food was horrible. Always cold. Portions were smaller than usual. No lobster. Very limited alcohol selection. Asked for a couple types of drinks and they had no idea what I spoke of. My family and I love our days at sea but we were actually looking forward to the days at port cause it meant we could escape the ship for a few hours. My bestfriend had plans to propose to his girlfriend and when he approached the cruise director to see if something could be planned he was rudely turned away. They did nothing and offered absolutely no help whatsoever. My family and I will NEVER again cruise costa cruise line again. We actually refer to our trip as sailing aboard the "caca fortuna" because that is what we felt. In our 30 years combined of cruising I've NEVER gotten off a ship without tipping. This time I did and I actually didn't feel bad about it. The only one whom received tips from us that I felt deserved it was our cabin steward Mika. NEVER AGAIN!! Read Less

First off, let me say that we were originally booked on the Holland America cruise out of Ft Lauderdale. However, my travel agency guy screwed up our reservations and did not get them in on time so he said he put us on an upgrade on Costa. I had no clue what Costa was but none of my friends from work had never been on it, only knew it was Italian. So we got there and were quickly put on board so we were happy. We were parked next to the Carnival Freedom and the Celebrity Solstice so we got some good looks while we waited. From there on it just got progressively worse. On the first day while waiting in the dock we had found beer bottles laying all over the top deck next to plates left from the previous cruise! The cleanliness of this ship is the worst I have ever seen!!! They would never clean up the decks fast and plates of food were always just laying around on tables so you were always aggrivated when you had no where to sit. Then came the buffet, it was ALWAYS the same, they NEVER changed one thing from day to day for breakfast or lunch! It got so old quick. The ice cream maker was hardly ever open but a few hours each afternoon unlike other cruise ships like RCL. The dinners were ok but our waiter was never anywhere to be found, we would wait 40 mins before ever getting our dinners. I suspect because they already had their tips included that they did not care to work hard for it. The food portions were very small for americans and im a small guy! I would always be in the boring buffet around midnight for a snack cause of the pitiful meals they would serve us at dinner. The ports were great because we got got get off of this boat! Thats just sad that we wanted to be off the boat more than on it! But all things went smooth there so I have no faults in that department. All of the ports were nice but having only 3 days at port in a 7 night cruise was killing us because I am used to booking ones with 4 stops on 7 days, and when you hate the cruise ship, you can understand why we wanted more ports of call. Entertainment was the only good thing on this boat! We really liked all of the ports and had Gabi and Norbi as our gymnastic shows which all of the crowd applauded each time. We really like the Roman Toga night on Saturday night, it was lots of fun. One of the worst things we can say is how the pools and slides were always closed! We had a large group of vegans and another group there and whenever they held their meetings on the main deck they would close all pools!!! We paid the same for this cruise so why are we stuck with closed pools? They also would close the pools by 10pm! I had never heard of this before, I was used to it being open very late. The slide wasnt even open until the 3rd day of the cruise and then from only 10am to noon, and then reopened from 2:30pm till 5pm!!! And yet while in Ft Lauderdale waiting to get going, the Carnival ship next to us had their slide open and letting people on it. In the end this was a terrible cruise, the complaints box at the end of the week had a line of people trying to stuff the box full of complaints. Everywhere you went you seemed to hear someone grumbling over the situation and I dont doubt it. In St Thomas, I had a guy behind me eating and was on his cell phone to his buddy in the states and he was cursing up a storm of how bad it was! I was completely shocked! If your American and used to RCL or Carnival type cruises avoid Costa like a plague! No one I was around liked any bit of it. Read Less

Food was always the same, except the restaurants food, boring shows, air condition in the public rooms the cold, specially in the restaurant we need a warm jacket to eat there. The worst thing are the time on the islands, always to short, costa arrives later and departs earlier than the royal caribbean, may be they save port taxes. Caymans: not enough tender boats, so you waste time by waiting. Never had so many times wasting by standing in a line and have to wait, for everything especially the checkout on the last day. You have to pay for the service twice, by buying drinks and again by costa checking about 300 dollar to our cabin for tipping. Ship was full on Christmas and new year, so you always have to wait a long time for food in the Buffet Restaurant. Deckchairs are all occupied, pool area was very loud, because of the terrible animation all day long, the covered quiet pool was forbidden for children, the security always send them out, so we had to stay in the loudness. Cabin was alright, we had a big balcony with 2 chairs and a table, we could sleep with open balcony every night air condition off, there was a bad smell from the bathroom, so we were happy to have fresh air from outside. The Cabin has a double bed, a single bed, and a pull out bed from the roof, that was scary for the kids, so my husband has to use it, fortunately it withhold his weight, even it doesn't look so in the first sight. Too many days on sea, only 7 stops on islands in 14 days. Don't book costa excursions, time on the island then is very short, st Thomas for 40 usd they drive you in a bus half an hour in the dusty mountains, then to the beach, after 1hour 20 minutes you have to go back to the ship. That's wasting time, better take a taxi at the port and go by your own, so you could stay as long as the ship is in the harbour. Children's club we couldn't use because our kids don't speak italian or English, there was no German animation for them. Read Less

Was looking forward to a nice 7 day cruise since our last cruise was 4 months ago. Having beautiful ports close by as Miami & Fort Lauderdale we hop on last minutes regularly, this would be our 38 cruise and next month we go on a 3 day out of Miami. Costa cruise came up within our cruising group and we purchased the trip. upon arrival at the port we quickly checked in very efficiently. later got to our room which is what we expected and found our luggage already inside that was great.Started our 7 day R & R. That evening we got to second seating #104 sat down & two gentlemen came over handed us our menus & left, never introduced themselves. Served water once and didn't see them for 15 min. i had to ask him to bring a pitcher of water since i drink alot of water during dinner & since his water rounds were far & in between it would probably be better. my experience with the dinning room was the worst i have ever experienced in my life. The food was substandard, presentation was substandard & our waiters were the worst. We ordered wine the first four days at the table, asked for a ice bucket twice to maintain the wine cool it was like talking to a wall even though we speak fluent english & spanish so it wasn't a language problem. The maitre'd showed up to the two Italian speaking tables next to us and ignored the rest. One evening after dinner we were having some drinks & were talking to a Canadian couple with equal amount of trip under there belts which had the same opinion of the dinning room staff. So for this reason I give the dinning room staff of Costa fortuna thumbs down.I received more welcomes from the residents of the island of Grand Turk walking down the street in 5 hrs than the whole 7 days at sea with the Costa Ship Staff. My room stuart Jesse was great he got double gratuity. Shows were ok, nothing to white home about. This was a bad trip, will not travel Costa again. Read Less

We sailed on Costa Fortuna on 3-23-08. This was our second time on Costa. Our last experience was several years ago and was very good. We can't say the same this time. The food only ranged from bad to fair. Service in the dining room ranged from poor to fair. What happened to the days when you didn't have to ask for your water to be refilled. On our last trip on Costa the food was one of the highlights, this time it was barely edible some nights. Most of the desserts tasted the same. We traveled with a group of 11 people and had requested to be seated together. On the first night eight of us had a nice table on the balcony with an ocean view. The other three were on the main floor. After talking with the maitre d we were moved on the second night. We now had a noisy table next to the wait station and the other half of our party was around the corner (out of view). We paid extra money for a cabin that had a kingsize bed. When we arrived at our cabin we had a SMALL cabin with bunkbeds. We were told that the ship was sold out and they would have a cot sent to our cabin. The cabin was so small that the cot would not fit. I had to take the mattress off the top bunk and sleep on the floor. At 10:00PM on the 4th night we were moved to a cabin with a kingsize bed. The next night in the dining room people told us that there was several empty cabins around them the entire cruise. Both of our cabin stewards were great (for to different cabins). At 7:00AM they were out there working (I don't know what time they started) many times our cabin wasn't cleaned until after lunch. They didn't seem to finish the morning cleaning until 3:00PM. They started the evening cleaning at 5:00PM and didn't finish until 11:00PM. It appeared the had far to many cabins to clean. Our luggage didn't arrive at our cabin until after dinner. That is the first time that has ever happened to us. At check in on the dock the baggage handlers were very rude. The shuttle bus driver dropped us off and talked to the baggage handler. He always seemed to have something else to do. We ended up having to take care of our own luggage. There was very little to do on board. You would go to scheduled events and sometimes they only lasted 5 minutes. They entertainment was poor. Everyone is not over 80 and likes piano and violin music at the bar. A member of our group was treated deplorably by the casino staff. They wanted him to give back his winnings because of a casino error. The sad part is he lost far more than he won. Costa tries to get you not to go on shore at the night time stop in the Dominion Republic. They only want you to go to a show that they get a kick back on. They town itself didn't appear safe at night in some places. There is a free shuttle service to a new casino that we enjoyed very much. Everyone won and the service was great. Drinks are on the house if you are gambling. We are cruising again in September as we love to cruise, But never again on Costa. Read Less
