A bad experience on the MS Oosterdam

Review for a Europe - Western Mediterranean Cruise on Oosterdam

We are 37 and 38 years old and have been on 22 cruises so far. We cruise with Celebrity, Azamara, Oceania and Royal Caribbean. This was our 3rd cruise with HAL and will be our last one. We are easy and always treat people with respect. Embarkation: I don't know if it's HALs 'fault' but this is the 3rd embarkation with the HAL were it took almost 1,5-2 hours to check in. Reason: Too few ...

OK but nothing special

The ship was fine, the Neptune Suites seemed smaller and less well laid out than other ships on the Holland line. The entertainment was only OK at best, but perhaps that was because we only had 2 sea days. What was surprising to me, having been on several other Holland America cruises was that the quality of food had declined so dramatically. I took my 14 year old granddaughter who loves to eat, ...

Great ship and after the dry dock: even better

Review for a Europe - Western Mediterranean Cruise on Oosterdam

We are a family of 4, mum, dad and twoo teenage daughters. This was our 6th cruise with HAL, all in the Med. The Oosterdam was recently refurbished in dry dock. She looked very fresh. We used anytime dining but with an angoing reservation at 6:30 pm. This is a great way to have fixed dining (and sometimes even fixed seating) but not to be limited to the regular fixed dining times 6 pm or 8 pm. The ...

Amazing Mediterranean Cruise

We had wanted to take a Mediterranean cruise for our 30th wedding anniversary. Since we own 4 weeks with Marriott, we were able to use our vacation club points to choose this cruise. We booked this in the summer of 2015 and were able to get a Neptune Suite for the cruise. Our plan was to arrive early in Rome, stay several days there first, and then board the cruise. We stayed at the Boscolo ...

This cruise review is done by RicksClan 2 but we only have 1 CC account because we have to have different emails. :} RicksClan 1 used to be Pioneer Scion but we just changed it....I am more wordy and write most reviews. Bucket list: Barcelona and Rome with a Sept 4, 2016 cruise in the middle. This was perfect. We saw lots of places that would have been difficult to get to on our own. ...

Great Greek Island Cruise

Review for a Europe - Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Oosterdam

This was an anniversary cruise and rather last minute. The ship had a recent refurbishment and looked splendid. The embarkation was quick and we went straight to our stateroom, a veranda on deck 8. The itinerary was mainly in the Greek isles and each stop was spectacular. There was a change to our itinerary from Turkey to Albania because of recent troubles. This was the only stop that did ...

Great Ports; Wrong Time of Year

Review for a Mediterranean Cruise on Oosterdam

We chose this cruise for two reasons: Ports of call and price. The deal we got on this cruise for the 5 of us (Me and the wife, 3 kids (age 20,18,15) for 2 staterooms (Signature suite + large inside stateroom across from each other) was spectacular - so it was hard to say no. Both the cabins were very nice - good size ,the bathrooms in particular large compared to most cruise ships we've been ...

Cruise not for everyone

Review for a Greece Cruise on Oosterdam

We chose this cruise because we love to cruise to Greece and this cruise offered ports we have not visited. We have been on 40 cruises and do three a year. This ship was very boring because there was little entertainment. One night they showed "Jungle Book Movie" for the 8pm & 10pm shows come on. Lucky for us the movies in the staterooms where free. I have never spent so much time in my cabin. ...

HAL and the Oosterdam are awesome

This was our 8th HAL cruise and second time on the Oosterdam. Perfect size ship (82K tons, 2200 passengers) and has recently been renovated (built in 2003). Never felt like we were on a crowded cruise ship. We had sailed on the Oosterdam in 2005 in Alaska, and the improvements to the common areas/cabins were excellent. HAL ships are meticulously maintained and the crew was fantastic. We had a ...

Good Cruise but could have been great

Review for a Mediterranean Cruise on Oosterdam

The cruise was chosen as a good value option with interesting ports. It delivered in some areas, not so good in others. The brilliant - 1 service was faultless both in dining and staterooms 2 the stateroom was roomy, clean and light 3 embarkation & disembarkation left Celebrity for dead The average - 1 the entertainment ranged from very good to don't bother 2 the choice of ...
