Embarking Boarding was smooth, efficient and pleasant experience. I boarded at noon and was sent with my carry on luggage to the Windjammer for lunch. At one I went to my room to drop off my luggage. First impressions..T The first room(3645) was a good size with two comfy chairs to read in. Alas the room had not been thoroughly cleaned, as there was "solid matter" in the toilet from the last guest. I took a deep breath after flushing, of course, and said it can't get any worse.. Wrong.. Dining We had a 5:30 seating for dinner the first nite only after a tablemate complained at 5:58 was our order taken, it was requested that we see the Head waiter .. he avoided our table until we were served, then came over several times and proceeded to throw our wait staff,( who was very good, by the way) under the bus so to speak. We never left the dining room until 7:30. I am allergic to Cow Dairy products. The only accommodations were the choice of soy or almond milk in my coffee. There was nothing to put on the rolls. There was no butter or sour cream substitute. I received a dry baked potato each meal... no gravy either. Even after carefully choosing my items on the menu I never received close to what I ordered, nor did I have any idea what I would receive until it appears in front of me. I gave up ordering deserts and had fruit each nite. The call I received from the dining room one afternoon mid week was unnerving. I was accused of signing up for the dining room and never showing, interrogated to if I was planning to show. It was a pretty hostile call. I advised I had been there every nite at the 5:30 sitting, named my wait staff,as well as names of table mates. I was grilled about my table #. No apology was issued. The dining room seemed disorganized. Cabin experience I went to bed I was awaken by the slamming of the crew door from 11 pm to 12:30, the vacuum caused my bed room door to rattle each time. Needless to say I placed a chair up against the door that nite. I got up the next morning only to find there was no hair dryer in my room. My steward was not concerned! Nor too motivated to find me one without prodding. I went to Breakfast , came back and noticed my steward's supervisor was present. I brought up the slamming of the door, and letting him know I was aware there was an empty room just up the hall from mine. the above was the experience in my first room. The supervisor sent me to Guest Services where I was met with great resistant from Veronika on the desk, When I mentioned I had already spoken to a supervisor, things got better. I moved myself from one room to the other tho I was told the steward would assist me. He watched. The first nite I in the new room was quiet however I woke up with several insect bites on me. I brought it to the steward's attention.. and my bed was searched for bed bugs... nothing else.. It was determined there were no bed bugs, and the same bedding was put back on my bed. The next morning I woke to more bites and a tick embedded in me. However all I was offered was to go to the medical center as there were no bed bugs! In the 2nd room I had I stepped on hard plastic left on the floor by the prior cruiser.. Guess this room, too, was not thoroughly cleaned. Needless to say the room experiences and the upkeep or lack of were not on my list of things to rave about. Towel animals appear on the beds every other nite, no longer every nite Enrichment activities Alas the so called activities were slim to none, and what they had reminded me of the activities at the local assisted living home. The shows were scheduled so that you could not eat that the 5:30 or 8 sitting and attend the shows. You had to go to the Windjammer for dinner if you wanted to see a show. Disembarkment.. As one who does the walk off with luggage, the experience was not good. I know they can do it well, as I traveled with them in 2012 and was impressed with how they handled it as it was so smooth and pleasant.. This was not smooth or pleasant. Being sent to the theater, parking your carry on luggage outside and having a free for all to locate and claim it in order to walk of the ship was not my idea of fun. Conclusion I have traveled on RCCL in the past and had wonderful experiences, alas I am glad this was not my first trip with them ,as it would be my last. I thought the service was sorely lacking and a disappointed all the way around. And needless to say I am not pleased that I contracted Lyme disease on the trip. I never in a thousand years would expect to have to take bug/tick repellants on a cruise.. just for the ship experience. I might give this ship a miss until they shift management to other ships . First let me say that my wife and I are not active cruisers, having taken fewer than 8 in our 50 years together. We prefer to plan our own trips and see things on our own. We chose the Baltic cruise on RCI because of the 3 days in St. Petersburg and we didn't want to try Russia on our own. It was a mistake we will not make again. If we ever cruise again, it will not be with RCI. Embarkation was smooth and painless thanks to the pre-cruise checkin process offered on the RCI website. The food and service on Serenade of the Seas were good. The food in the Windjammer was plentiful but if you dine there every breakfast, lunch and some dinners, it becomes somewhat repetitive and is often quite crowded. All the staff that we came into contact with were very friendly and helpful. The entertainment was acceptable but not exceptional. The ABBA show was very nice, but some of the entertainers in the Centrum were boring. The cabin facilities were nice but somewhat tired, especially the carpet and sofa and the in-room amenities were non-existent. Having said all of this, the cruise would have been enjoyable if not for the way Royal Caribbean operates. Everything is designed to sell, sell, sell. They start trying to upsell you the moment you step on the ship with upgraded meal packages, drink packages, photos, excursions, etc. The price for internet service was especially outrageous. Over $26/day for a single device. Very annoying. As for the ports of call, it seems that they berth the ship as far away from town as they can to encourage passengers to book their overpriced excursions. They provide very little information on where the ship is berthed or what transportation options there are to reach town. There were no port briefings on things to see so if you don't take their excursions you have little idea of what is available. If you don't want to use RCI's excursions at each stop you must do a little research prior to your trip. Try to find out where the ship will be berthed in each port and what types of public transportation is available. The daily tip sheet provided to the staterooms provided very little information. If you wish to explore on your, you must plan ahead. Before you leave home, print out a map of each town you will visit and decide what sites you wish to see. If you decide you don't want to do this and let RCI do it for you, that's your choice of course, but be prepared to travel with bus-loads of fellow cruisers and to pay RCI's exorbitent excursion prices. Prior to our departure we used the internet to pre-book our excursions in St. Petersburg and Warnemunde for far less money and with far fewer passengers. For the other ports we used the public bus system, taxis or our feet to get around. Read Less

After some amazing cruises with TUI and Royal Caribbean, we chose to do the Norwegian Fjords primarily for the scenery. Sad to say Gerainger aside we didn’t see too much of the Fjords and spent a lot of time on choppy sea. Trips further into the Fjords were available but at a price. The ship wasn’t clean at all. Many windows were filthy, and some of the public areas were extremely dusty. We ate in the Windjammer as like many other cruisers we didn’t feel the need or the urge to dress up. As ever the awindjammer food was plentiful, varied and of a high standard. The captain of the ship was very conspicuous by his absence, making rare appearances and hardly any announcements. Probably the most disengaged captain we have ever experienced. Same could be said of the Cruise Director who although very pleasant could have done a lot more to liven things up. His job was made much harder by the lack of quality in the production team. One singer Suzanne was excellent but the remainder were amongst the worst we have ever experienced on our cruises. The headliner acts were also poor compared to other cruises apart from the Barricade Boys who put on a great show. As a consequence the theatre was never packed out. Overall the cruise lacked atmosphere, and would make us think seriously about using Royal Caribbean in the future. Our experience was further dampened with the spa staff failing on 4 occasions to correct my wife’s hair salon bill after over charging her. This was put right by guest services on the final morning. Also we had to vacate the ship at 8:15 am despite our flight home not being until 17:55, an extra 4 hours on the ship was offered at $44 each, which essentially meant sitting on the ship with no access to facilities apart from lunch in the Windjammer. We chose to endure 9 hours at the airport instead. We met some nice people whose views were much the same as ours. We would have happily come home after 3 days but decided to make the best of a bad job. Read Less

We chose this itinerary because of the ports, and were excited to try Royal Caribbean again after quite a few years. Serenade of the seas was outdated, boring, lack of good entertainment and activities. Food in the the Windjammer was terrible. Main dining room was mediocre at best, the waitstaff was excellent though, all the crew were excellent, no complaints on that aspect. No Caribbean music at the pool, they played 70's and 80's music the whole cruise. Didn't even feel like we were on a Caribbean cruise! Movies on the big screen were hard to watch with all the black spots/bad pixels. Who wants to watch red bull advertising on a movie screen by the pool! come on we are in the Caribbean, that's all they ever played during the day. No poolside activities worth anything, come on a belly flop and a sexy man contest on an 11 day cruise....boring. I guess if your over 65 this cruise is for you, most guests were geriatric. Sorry to say but it's the truth. Room was okay, our room Stewart was very nice and helpful. Shore excursions were over priced and didn't deliver(Picture Aruba and sunset cruise in Curacao...don't waste your money) Read Less

Starting with my first Royal Caribbean Cruise 15yrs ago, then multiple Carnival Cruises after that, we decided to choose Royal Caribbean again because of how much we enjoyed the first one. After 5 Cruises prior to this one in 2018, I’d consider myself experienced and because of that, I have realistic expectations of what a Cruise should entail. Well, unfortunately this one was the WORST ship (Serenade of the Seas) I’ve been on. We travelled with a group of family consisting of ten people in total - 6 adults and 4 children. Three children under the age 10, one being 12 and the adults ranging from 40yrs of age to 60 yrs of age. We were amongst 1800 senior citizens, if not more! (Nothing against seniors, for the record) They should just market this Cruise for seniors, and not families traveling with little ones. 2/3 pools were closed on the ship. Jumbo TV over the main area was broken so there were no movie nights for the entire 7 day duration of the Cruise. Kid friendly night club was closed, as well as most of the child friendly activities weren’t running. There’s one indoor pool on the boat, which was considered “adult only” however nobody mentions that children are allowed to swim 2hrs per day during a scheduled period until the very last day of the Cruise - THANKS! The formal dining service was not very good and the food was mediocre at best. The Matradee (short, balding, mid 50’s, Greek type fellow) responsible for looking after the guests dining experience, purposely ignored our table every night, only catering to the senior citizens. It was almost comical watching him squirm and go out of his way to Ignore our table. We travelled in a pack of 10, it would be pretty hard not to see us!! The daycare centre was phenomenal and for the kids, one of the highlights of the trip. They were excellent with our kids and they enjoyed their time & activities at “Adventure Ocean”. The boat was very dated and it showed in all areas of the ship, There was next to no child friendly live entertainment and unless you wanted to listen to vulgarity, you were out of luck. This Cruise fell WAY below my expectations, especially for the high standard I remembered Royal Caribbean to have. It was such a bad experience, I have no reason to ever book again with them. Carnival Cruise line was way better. SO much more of a friendlier family, single and couples ship and to top it off....so much more affordable!! Royal Caribbean, you dropped the ball big time!! The Serenade of the Seas had the worst food that I have had on my 8 cruises. During the day, the Park Café was mediocre with mini quesadillas being the best thing on the menu. At night, the available food was cut in half and the Panini sandwiches were heated using a microwave. No one could tell us way the Panini Press could not be used at night. The cakes and cookies at the Park Café were always inedible. The Windjammer Café was just slightly better. A meat skewer offered during Middle Eastern night was not recognizable as food. This product became the opening joke for the late night comedian. There were virtually no vegetables and all meats except chicken were poorly prepared. All fish was either bland or salty. Potatoes, chicken, cakes, and pies were Ok. The Reflections Dining room was somewhat better than the Windjammer. The main entrée was OK on two of six nights that we ate there. On the bad side, the sauce for the Shrimp Ravioli was so salty we could not eat a single bite. The exception to the bad food was the at-sea luncheon buffet in the Reflections Dining room. This was absolutely fantastic. The seafood included delicious cold grilled lobster, and large scallops. If all meals were up to the quality of these luncheons, I would not be writing a bad review. Having sailed with RCCL many times I expected a great cruise on a grrat ship. Sailed out of Copenhagen. The Seranade of the Seas is in dire need of extensuve updating and repairs. Windows in the Safari Club lounge haf 1" of water between the panes. It had formed into algae. Water leaking in windows in the Windjammer. Casino tobacco smoke was not ventilated properly spilling in to public areas. Food in Reflections Diningroom was poor so after 5 attempts on a 21 day cruise the remaining meals were in the Windjammer. Cabin 8005 had broken brackets in bathroom cabinet. Cabin cabinets were scarred and scratched. Draws and doors did not open or close proprrly. Sofa had several stains on it. Carpet worn out and stained. Ports of call in Shetland Islans, Norway, Iceland and Nova Scotia had excursions that rrquired lengthy bus rides for a 45 minute toir. There was nothing in Greenland expect to walk around the small town. The ship went through the Prince Christian Sounx all dsy and waz being narrated by a Dr. Jacob. A monotone boring description of his opinion regarding as to how the rocks were formed. This guy also gave enrichment taljs which were equally boring but at least he put you to sleep. Debarkatiin in Port of Boston was horrible due to new Immigration process done on board. It was designed to expidite the process but delayed it. Read Less

We cruised the baltic sea in July. The ship was a little disappointing in regards to the food availability, especially from 20 yrs ago. First, no midnight buffet. Second, No food available after midnight - we would go to see a movie that finished at midnight, but unable to get a snack after unless you wanted to pay room service. Third, the other food service areas did not have a place just to pick up a slice of pizza or minimal hours to get a glass of ice tea. Positive, disembarkment the ship quickly was well worth taking our minimal luggage with us & not having to pack the night before. We did enjoy looking out our balcony at the scenery & sunset/sunrise. The drapes did block out the sunlight. Finally, since our flight had mechanical issues & we missed our connection - we purchased our air fare with the package air 2 sea. We were told that we should of bought insurance multiple time..... we missed our embarkment in Stockholm, air 2 sea was able to get us to Estonia. Royal Caribbean took no responsibility or consideration of us missing the first day on the cruise. A very expensive day for sitting in airports! Read Less

Would not let you take an unopened can to your room. WTer not included. Beds old and uncomfortable. Attendant did his best to fix. The itenerary was wonderful however they trap you with this old ship. Movie theater nice. TV movie selection non existent. Couldn’t acces your folio bill most of the time. To start with my wife and I are pretty easy to keep happy, yet they failed in every way possible. While we have enjoyed RC cruise lines in the past, this one was a FAIL in all aspects and not just by our opinion but also by MANY in asked for comments by others. The Ship was clean and on time getting to and leaving ports, and while a good thing, that should not be the best thing about the trip. Where to start on the list of problems is difficult but here's some of the highlights...our suite's mini fridge/bar was broken and actually making items HOT so they quickly removed it and replaced it 4 (FOUR) days later. Our at port activities booked through RC (one every port) with the exception of one were Late to start, early to return, poorly planned and over priced, here's an example...At the last port we booked a Jeep and Beach ADVENTURE about 4 1/2 hours, you drive your own (group's) 5 passenger NEW jeep, convoy style to historic and viewpoints, do some off roading on the dunes, and arrive at a beauty of a private beech where you'll have crystal clear waters swimming, beach loungers, umbrella, cocktails, and food. after a couple hours a bus will pick you up, make a stop for a little local shopping/refreshments, then return you to the ship...sounds Great right?...REALITY Late start, about 45 min waiting on the dock in the sun standing in a line, 10 minute march to a BUS depot where you board a SMALL and over PACKED bus...some sat/stood in the walk way. About 45 min later (with people packed in like sheep) we arrived at a parking lot with a view that was less than breath taking, people scrambled back to secure a seat and we went to the "other beach", where they had ran out of loungers, seats, umbrellas, But had LOT'S of rusty bottle tops and broken glass in the sand to keep u occupied as you BAKED in the sun and swam in thefairly murky water of the about 20 yards deed and 75 yards long beach (along with about 200 other people). I was offered a BROKEN chair (1) for our group of 3 for $15 dollars US, and you COULD NOT have beer or cocktails as our Jeeps (that we would be the drivers of) would be arriving...then the self drive home in convoy style, heavy traffic (literally their rush hour time) where we stopped 3 times for about 10 min to SMELL the stench of open sewage at areas wiped out by the hurricane. After a stressfull hour driving we stopped at a what was less that a flea market for 15 minutes then rushed back to the ship with 5 minutes to spare before scheduled departure......Here's the KICKER...MOST of us raised some hell at the excursion center on the boat...the next day we were told the best they could do was a 17.00 dollar US refund!!!!...and I don't even want to start with the quality of the "SHOWS" on the boat they tried but...hahaha not in a good way. That was our last day at port, and my last trip with them. Read Less

Was told last year ship was to be refurbished not true. This ship is old in decor, linens are thread bare, beds are extremely hard. The solarium pool decor is poor worn and out of date and dirty. The stateroom bathroom is tiny and smells of sewage. The 12 Bar Band was terrible, unenthusiastic and dressed in same attire wrinkled and unkept each night. Very little seating in centrum. Outside pool far too small and all metal railings, trim, awnings, overhangs covered in rust. Outdoor furniture is OLD. Outdoor pool movie screen poor quality and did not function properly the entire cruise, needs to be replaced. Stateroom TV tiny and very limited channels and what series were shown were from the 70's and 80's and same episode repeated over and over for 10 days. Windjammer decor from 80's, trim and paint dirty and broken. Excursion in St Lucia was the worse experience we have ever had. Registered complaint with guest service but nothing was done. Will never cruise on this ship again. Read Less

For our 10th wedding anniversary we booked an eleven night Southern Caribbean cruise on the Serenade of the Seas. The ship was okay, the cabin and cabin attendant were great. The dining room left a lot to be desired. The menu selections were repetitive, the serving sizes were small, almost minuscule. The food was tasteless and I often compared it to hospital food! Crab claws to wrestle on formal night....really! Overcooked and under seasoned! The service in the dining room was lacking......no rapport with the passengers. After complaining to the Head Waiter I had a meeting with the head chef to express my dislike....he really had no explanation but did offer a nice filet mignon the next night for the two of us from Chops! We did eat in Chops and it was excellent as usual.....so I know they can prepare good food. One night we ate dinner in Windjammer just to find more variety in selection. The food in Windjammer was no better, but they did do a nice breakfast! Diamond Lounge was a joke and should be abolished. Over 300 Diamond guest on the ship and seating for 30 at one time. Not a great way to treat your repeat customers. Mario, the manager of the Diamond Lounge said it was an executive decision and I should contact Miami about the situation......which I will do. Sure, they push you to just go get your three free drinks at any bar...but that is not the purpose of the Diamond lounge. Entertainment was blah....except for the comedian.....he was entertaining. Next time I decide spend my valuable vacation dollars it will not be to be stuck somewhere eating cafeteria food with lack luster entertainment and poor service. Wake up Royal Caribbean......I will be shopping for a new cruise company! Did not book another cruise while on the ship! Read Less

Summary: Slow service, aging ship, minimal entertainment, and mediocre food. The highlights - The cabin was clean and decent. Junior suite, which means a balcony cabin with a slightly larger foot-print and a tub instead of a shower. The steward was attentive and friendly - almost to the point of exhaustion. We found ourselves breathing a sigh of relief if we made it to or from the room without having a conversation. The premium Italian Restaurant was terrific. Food was excellent, service was great. We had dinner there the first evening aboard, and it was to be the only real good meal we had on the ship. The rest of it - Minimal entertainment. The usual cruise-ship rah-rah-rah-America production dance-fest, an un-funny comedian, and a magic act that was rejected from the high-school talent show. The ship needs a good cleaning, and maybe an update. Public areas looked well-worn, and the casino needs to add some slot machines from this century. The cabin's TV was tiny, and did not allow for external inputs. Read Less

What a disappointment! We had taken this same 11-day southern Caribbean cruise on this same ship 2 years ago but agreed to do the cruise again since we wanted to join our cruise buddies. Two years ago, we rated this trip 4 out of 5 stars. What a change in service and quality. This is the first cruise that we took on Royal Caribbean/Celebrity that was poor. We are Emerald members and our friends are Diamond members so we have taken many cruises with them in the past. It started on the first night when we had scheduled 7 PM "MY Time Dining." They advised us that if we arrived 15 minutes late, they might give our our table away to someone else so we actually arrived 10 minutes early. We waited till 7:30 before we were seated. Then waited another 15 minutes before someone gave us menus and water. By 8 PM we got a bread basket on our table and our cold appetizers. On all previous Royal Caribbean cruises, there was a bread service where an assistant waiter would bring around a bread basket and would put on your plate whatever bread you would choose. We were told that this type of service has been eliminated. We complained about the lack of service in the dining room and were told by the head waiter that Royal Caribbean had cut back on dining staff. We were also told "If you would like better service, you should go to the premium dining restaurants." The dessert menus were stapled over the regular menus "So the guests would not walk out with them." Very low class service. When they served the escargot, there were no longer the little forks to pick up the snails. We were told not to order the crab claws since there were no crackers to get the meat out. All these things were on previous cruises and are still available on Viking and Disney cruise ships. Shows were also poor and difficult to get to on time due to poor dining room service. Considering the deteriorating service on Royal Caribbean, we probably will be changing to different cruise lines in the future. Read Less

Enough of white stuff and looking for warmer climat. After 19 cruises we can say that: We can get much better/longer stay for the same amont of money. RCCL has become a too large profit center on every things/activities offered and surely not worthwhile the price. Dining has become a very low profile with very repeatable menus of low profile, surely the 2 formal diners were noting else than informal for the menu. Lobsters quality is very questionable when offered only one night. Coffee at the end of the meal was tasking burn because left for hours on heater. Very poor selection of meals and choice of vegetables only traditional carrots and brocolis. DOING MAINTENANCE ON solarium POOL DURING Days AT SEA IS A NEW WAY FOR RCCL TO SAVE MONEY INSTEAD OF PERFORMING IT BEFORE DAY TIME. THIS IS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS...CAPTAIN WAKE UP YOUR MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR. Coffee at windjammer morning opening is always warm to hot... please make your coffee at least 20F hotter or at 170-175F. Evening shows are averages compare to Norwegian...they need to be improved. Care of balcony was escaped by cabin attendent...we made it... price of fee for cabin/water services has increased by 15% beginning of 2018 with of course less services if you don't tip!! Sincerely I thing that cruises are at their apologies and starting to decline...because more money for less offer...we are taking a break on cruises ans spend our money somewhere else more worthwhile. Family needed a short cruise due to school and work vacations. It was cold most of the time, especially in Key West on Wednesday. So, lots of time was spent on ship. Room size was great but little signs everywhere showed the age of the ship. Food was adequate except for scrambled eggs. They were downright awful. I ask the chef in windjammer to make scramble eggs for me. They were worse than the watery scrambled eggs in the buffet. I can absolutely guarantee that company executives have never eaten this food. If they did, these eggs would be gone in ten seconds. There is great food in restaurants where you have to pay. I had an excellent steak and the service was excellentl. Room service was good also but was longer than the 45 minutes suggested. The overall conclusion was that the cruise was only adequate. It’s clear that senior executives at corporate offices are not paying attention to details. Read Less

It did not feel that special. Let me say to begin with that we have been on many cruises with many lines of all classes and 5 on RC. This was the worst. The staff were very good although pressed because of reduced numbers which was so noticeable that my husband checked the statistics comparing them with some old ones. That clearly told the story of that cut back. The food was very good other than a couple of meals which were indelible. We only ate breakfast in the dining room once and that was Christmas morning. They shuffled us to the far back where it was empty. I don't think our waiter had ever waited on before. I didn't care for the ambience in that room. One day we had lunch in there but did not find the experience worth going back for. We ate all our dinners in the main dining room in Anytime dining.I rarely send back but do not get the crepes in cheese sauce. They were in a ramekin and the crepes had absorbed all the sauce so were just a glutinous, dry mass. Similarly the scallops au gratin which were two of the tiniest bay scallops in what I decided was left over garlic liquid from the escargots in the escargot dish. No sign of cheeses sauce which would be the way to serve. New Year's Eve in the dining room was a disaster-short staffed. Maybe I can't blame them on that as people who had signed up for My Time dining and never been before decided to come that night. They handed out hats and streamers but there were none left for us at 7:30pm and two hours into a cold meal where we had to ask for bread/butter and water they told us there were no more soufflé which we ordered with our main course.. We walked out without dessert-but--the next night, New Year's Day, which was my birthday, they brought me a cake and souffles for the table. By the time they came we had already ordered and eaten a dessert. Severely understaffed. Anytime dining is a joke because they want you on the same table every night at the same time which we did and had wonderful service from Antonio and Fang. Unfortunately the MD gave away our table NY's Eve. We ate breakfasts and lunches in the Windjammer. They were generally good but the same every day. Disappointing that there was not sushi which you now can only get in their restaurant. They need to improve on the eggs Benedict-cold Hollandaise and not freshly prepared eggs. So easy to precook and heat up as the do on HAL. Most of the venues on the ship were not in use. They crowded us into the Schooner bar for trivia because clearly they didn't have the staff to open up the larger Safari bar area. It was cold, dark and uninviting. There were already people in the Schooner playing all kinds of provided games. We went to Karaoke in Safari the first night and were told the machine wasn't working. We never went back. Everything seems to be crowded into the center atrium with people hanging over the railings trying to see what is going on. We gave up on NY's Eve as they were selling tickets for seats in that area. How cheap can you get. Shall I mention them holding back our checked bag because there was a bottle of wine in there. The first night my husband did not get his bag until after 8 pm which was after dinner. I call this petty. What are you to do if you are flying straight in to the cruise. The hotel manager did send us a bottle of champagne which was a nice gesture but the damage was done. The Cruise Director was very entertaining- probably the best I have seen. We only walked through the casino on time and the cigarette smoke was unpleasant. But as I said RC set a standard for a cruise which they are no longer following up on any more. The kids enjoyed the riding, snorkeling and swimming with dolphins. At over $1000 we opted out. We all did the Spice Farm in Grenada which was nice. We bought a coffee card which was a good idea. I will now have severe reservations about taking a Royal Caribbean cruise again. Read Less

I choose this cruise because it covered Christmas and New Years. The ship was very short staffed. The staff was friendly and tried to be helpful but way overworked. Could never get anyone's attention to get what we needed in dining room. Saw the waiter when they took your order and brought the food 30 minutes later but then never again not even to remove the dirty dishes so we stacked them on the next table. Tacky but didn't know what else to do. No waiters in sight around pool area. In general in every area of the ship it was understaffed and obvious. I guess that saves save money for RCL. Chop's at $200.00 was a terrible waste of money. Don't pay for drink card because no will waite on you. The fruits and vegetables were not fresh most of the time. Bed in room were like sleeping on sidewalk and no shampoo or conditioner in the room. All together a really disappointing cruise. Read Less

I have waited a month to do this review because of the negative energy I knew it would take. Before I finish my gripe I want to give a kudos to the few people that deserve it. Orion our stateroom attendant was amazing,he took great care of us all day everyday! Orion was always smiling and always happy the way you would want someone to treat you while on vacation. Lee and Randy in the Pub were awesome, always chatting with us and making great drinks. We chose the Pub particularly because many of the bars were closed throughout the day and the others that were open were grouchy people with bad service, which was upsetting on a daily basis! Everyone seemed overworked and negative. When you spend $5,000 on a cruise and another $5000 on traveling the last thing you want to experience is a rude staff. 12/26 the day we got back aboard from St Kitts we went to Rita's to eat, thinking it would be good. The bartender/server working was rude and enjoyed being crappy, He took 10 minutes to even greet us and it was an hour before we received our food. There was NO ONE else in the restaurant but an 8 top that was actually staff who works on the boat, including Ricki. Another day of crappy service for NO Reason! I had multiple conversations with people that felt the same way, I hope they also posted a review because this is unacceptable, this was not a cheap cruise (11days! nor a cheap vacation, I am still ticked off about the rudeness we experienced. The entertainment was a whole other story, I mean seriously the entertainment was pitiful! The guy singing in the Pub literally played the same songs every night, The Piano bar wasn't even worthy of being called a bar it was a vision of death in an old folks home. The only show worthy was The Bon Jovi show which totally rocked! The Casino was a great time, Dealers Joshua, Ioana from Romania, Jenny from Phillpines were so FUN! The Islands for the most part were amazing , we loved Barbados, St Kitts and St Lucia. (St Thomas should NOT of been a stop the Island was in terrible shape and everything was closed because of the holiday!) I have so many more bad experiences on the ship I could mention but I'm going to stop there. My husband and I enjoyed the travel of the Islands, the landscape and amazing views we were blessed to see but as for the staff of the Seranade of The Seas they should pretty much all be fired. I've never seen so much bad moral and work ethic in my life. Read Less

We wanted a smaller, intimate ship so that was our reason for choosing the Serenade of the Seas. Food in main dining room was really bad and inedible. My sister's chicken dish was obviously microwaved and inedible. The lobster was overcooked and tough. The appetizers were generally good but the second time that I ordered escargot it was cold. The staff had attitudes except for our cabin attendant and one person at the Windjammer who was really helpful. Entertainment......was non-existent. Appeared to be a huge cutback in staff. Food in Windjammer was descent. Food in Chops was excellent. Our hallway to our cabin smelled like poopie diapers. We brought this issue up to the housekeeping staff but nothing was done. There was a terrible tour bus accident to the ruins. We looked into booking another cruise while on this cruise....staff was sick and had attitudes. I will not book another cruise on the Serenade. Crew service was good. But too much is crammed into restricted space within the ship. If one wants quiet space to sit back relax and enjoy best opt for a balcony suite. During day market type stalls are set up around the ship selling watches, clothing, jewellery. The Atrium is spoilt by cramming in entertainment stage. Main dining room can proved cramped with little space between tables. Food mediocre, many dishes failed to live up to their menu description which appeared to be pure fantasy, different descriptions turned out the same item that was on the menu a couple of days before. Pools and pool area disappointing with pool constantly occupied by people just sitting in the water. Photographic service was quite low quality. Many extras through the cruise escalating costs. Disembarkation was very poorly organised. By far this was the worse cruise that I have been on. This experience has put me off cruising ever again, Read Less

Chose this cruise before the hurricanes, lost most of our ports with THEIR selections. Martinique was a total waste, they didn't even promote shore excursions or shopping, jus dumped you off on your own. St Lucia next was nice, then a short sail to Barbados. It was their Independence Day, everything was closed, we hired a taxi to a beach, could not get there, streets were closed for parade. You think they could have switched ports to not arrive on a holiday when they are so close? The entertainment was woefully lacking, very ameturish, and lack of variety. If you liked that specific genre, maybe you could endure, we tired and headed back to our balcony to enjoy the moonlight sea. The food was lacking, named to make you interested, however it was tasteless and small portions. The menu was the same each night, very few changes, and the first cruise I ever saw fried chicken on the menu. On the 8th evening the menu listed lobster tails, however the plate arrived with 1/2 of a tiny poorly prepared lobster. Upon asking what we were being served we were advised they ran low, so they divided the portions rather than substitute. The deck posted menu listed items, and then the table menu provided was different!!!! Purchased a beverage package, soda, and every fountain on board served flat beverages. Explored the ship to find a proper drink, not available, complained, told if the first night I complained they could have done something, ended up drinking ice water. Read Less

The ship is large enough to find things to do. The pool deck get a little crowded but that's to be expected. The gym was quite good so that was a big plus. The cabins are a little outdated. We found ours to be super dusty. The dining was a really big disappointment as it's one of the things you look forward to on cruises, there were not many options and the meals become repetitive. They aren't many healthy options either. Everything was drenched in cheese or butter or sugar and salt. The ports were the highlight of the trip, this itinerary was quite good, too bad they cancelled St. Kitts three days before the cruise and replaced it with Martinique. I wouldn't really recommend this cruise to 25-40 year olds. We went as a couple and almost 75% of the people on board were over 55. The activities seemed to be really geared towards this crowd. We were not able to get the drinks we wanted on this package. We wanted a double shot of whiskey and we were told that the bartender could lose their jobs because passengers could fall and break their hip. We saw other passengers add a cash tip on top of the bill and then they were given doubles. We saw this at the Schooner bar. The bartender at the Crown and Castle pub was very arrogant. Nothing is posted in their advertising or at the bar that you can order only one shot of liquor. The irony, I could order cosmos all day long with two shots of vodka but according to RCCL bartenders, "that isn't the same thing." A mai tai, was also a drink with more than 1 shot of liquor and that is ok to serve, but a double shot of whiskey is not. Mind blowing. If RCCL said that their policy is that the drink package is limited to one shot of liquor (like they mention your value of one glass of wine is up to $12.) that would be ok. Just don't make the rules as you see fit, or if it profits you to only make the doubles if you get a little extra cash. INSULTING. The spa receptionist was very rude and unwelcoming. When you pay for a $150 service, you would expect to be treated with respect. I was told to "sit over there and wait" (with a rude tone). I was also told "what do you want?" instead of "how can help you." Thank goodness the massage therapist was very professional. Was any staff happy to be working? With the exception of our great cabin steward, and the waitstaff at Giovanni's, Chops and Izumi, and Alicia who helped us when we missed our "tender time" for our tour, everyone seemed grumpy. One staff member told us he couldn't wait to get off the ship, he only had 7 days left on his contract. Not something I would think you would share to a passenger. I apologize for the rant. Last year our Harmony of the Seas trip was fantastic. The staff was superb. Maybe because this is an older ship no one cares if you are happy. Read Less
