great to be cruising again

Palermo (Sicily)

Excellent service, excellent food, everything was wonderful! 

Camp Ocean has an awesome staff, our grandson is 9 and did not want to leave. We received a post card delivered to our cabin from the staff saying how nice it was to have him attend along with some of the activities he did. Very caring staff.

Cabin Steward Adrian was exceptional! Room was perfect-always had ice. Was very prompt with our laundry. Excellent personality, I love-love the towel monkey!

Cabin 1101 was located on deck 11 on the side of the Spa and under the Serenity Deck. Only a few rooms in the hall, no cabin across from ours. Be aware that one evening is a scheduled Serenity party beginning at 11:00 pm till whenever. Thought the ceiling was coming in from all the stomping. We would have stayed up later if we had caught the event on the Fun Times.

Only negative thing I can say is the meet & greet was a disappointment-close to 50 people attended, this was on the next to last day, half way through someone contacted guest services that no one from Carnival was there.

Each ship does it differently-there should be a standard so we know what to expect

Excellent cruise!

We like to cruise every year my family Husband and two teenage boys.   This was our 5th cruise and our second on Carnival. 

We flew to New Orleans and stayed at the Four Points Sharaton located in the French Quarter ( not recomemended for families as it is located on Bourbon St in the middle of the French Quarter and the Kids will not enjoy the experience. Young Adults who love to party will love it.  

The cruise from New Orleans was a  nice change from other cruises as the first part of the cruise we were able to sit on the Balcony and watched the river it was nice to not be out to sea until well after sunset.   Again on the return trip watching the lights along the river was relaxing well worth the balcony. 

The Embarkation was quick and pain less from the hotel check out to the Lido deck was approx. 30 minutes total.   We checked out at 1055 and we were on board at the Buffett by 1130.

Dining we were assigned the Upper Golden dining room

First off our servers in the dinning room were excellent.   Sunu,  Myat and Tangkas were friendly and quite fun we enjoyed conversations and had a great time with them.   The dancing during table service was fun. 

However, I do not like the set dining times.  I tried to get My time dining and was on a wait list and had the late dining.   This is my biggest complaint for Carnival. 

They seem to try to co-ordinate shows for the various dining times however, I feel I miss something when I have the late dinning times and there is one show.  You really have to look at the Fun Times to get the best of everything.   

I did not have very many hot meals warm but not Hot.  The meals were delicious. Soups were usually hot but not the main courses.   When you are feeding 1500 people between two dining rooms at one time that can be challenging.  

The Sea day Brunch was well used on this particular cruise.  Line ups when ever we attended.   The service was slower but I didn't have to fight the crowds at the buffett.  (TIP) Check the Fun Times for the days the dining room is open on Port days there are far fewer people these days in the dining room as most don't realize it is open.   

The Kids programs

My kids were engaged and I rarely saw them  one was with the Circle C group and the other was with the O2 and both were gone off to the activites and did not come looking for me what so ever.    I was usually in bed before they were.   They both loved the cruise.

On the first day a parent needs to check them in we did not realize that you could sign them in earlier in the day,  and the sign in was at 830 and our dining was at 815  in the middle of our dining time.    Our kids rarely ate with us other then the one manditory dinner I make them have with me.   The clubs break for dinner if you have an early dining time it works out for you,  me not so much.   

Entertainment 

We were able to get to one show the Motown it was excellent I have seen this production on another ship and it was still a good show.   If you like Motown you will enjoy the show.   

The Comedy club 

This seemed to be a hit.  It was a packed room every night for the late show at 10:00.   We made the 11:15 show once  and we made the pg show with our kids at 7:00 a few times.  There were four different Comedians and we saw all four they were great. 

The Sing along with Cassidy-Rae 

She will be leaving the ship in a couple weeks so If you have the chance go into the Cinn-o-bar and sing along.  Cassidy-Rae will try to full fill your requests.  She downloaded the song Beth by Kiss listened for a short amount of time and was able to play the song and did an awesome job.  Impressive how she is able to figure out the cords and play as quickly as she did. 

The Art Auctions 

I enjoy the Art auctions it is entertaing during the day.  If anything go for the Champagne. Jade the Auctioneer and his team were excellent he did try to put everyone's request up for bidding.  He spent a few minutes describing different pieces and moved along  quickly as possibe. He did not completly focus on one artist which was nice. 

I did not attend the presentations as I had seen the Peter Max and Thomas Kinkade presentations on previous cruises and I was not interested.   

The Team were quite attentative during a discusion Kayla had picked up  that I liked a certain artist and dug deep into the vault to pull out a picture that would not normally have come out on the floor.  Which was nice to see they appreciate the cruisers and don't put what they want out on the floor.  If you are looking for an artist be sure to ask this team they will find what you are looking for. 

Ports  Montego bay; Grand Cayman; Cozumel 

Montego Bay there is nothing immediately off the ship. It is quite a walk to the downtown and the beach with the Markets.  We decided to do an excursion through the ship as I wasn't sure if I would be left behind with the relaxed Jamaican attitude.   Carnival will not leave you if you if you book through  them there was a tour who came back late and the ship waited. 

River rafting and Beach Adventure.

The River rafting was excellent had a great time not too physical. be sure to bring along some money to purchase drinks along the way.   The Beach portion of the tour,  I could have done without.  We went to the Hard Rock Cafe Beach it was small and you had to pay extra for the use of chairs and umbrellas on the beach.  It was a very small beach and a lot of Jelly fish were in that day.  Good thing the beach visit was only an hour. 

Grand Cayman 

Lots of shopping right off the ship.  We shopped till we dropped and enjoyed the day. 

Cozumel 

Again shops right off the ship.  I have been to Cozumel before and should have done an exucursion here this time, to enjoy myself.   And since this is a popular port with 6 ships in port. Excursions will book up.   If you like the markets in Mexico then it wasn't a bad day.   Other then it was soooo hot.   but, you can't control Mother Nature. 

Carnival Hub App

This is a great way to quickly look up where to eat and the activites of the day.   You can track your spending and book excursions.  There is also a chat  between cruisers for $5 per device.  I do recommend  downloading the App. 

 (TIP)   Read the Fun Times as well.  As not all activities are on the App.  

For example The App stated check in to the Camp Ocean was at various times however, this was also for the older groups as well and I would not have had to go during dinner. I didn't know it referred to all the Kids Clubs.  And some repetitive activites are not always on the App.   They are getting better with the App and I suspect Carnival will go paperless soon however, it still needs some work. 

I avoided the Casino and activies near the casino as much as possible since it is the primary smoking area and I don't not enjoy the smell of smoke.  Which is hard to do since it is in the middle of the ship.   I found there were some ignorant smokers who were smoking practically everywhere.  If you can believe one guy was smoking in the elevator.  Another on the balcony.  The ventilation on the 5th floor is not great and you do smell smoke around the Casino.  Most portraits are in this area and I did not wish to be in Elegant dress and walk through smoke. 

Disembarking

We had a late flight and wanted the latest possible time off.  We enjoyed breakfast in the dinning room and waited up on the Lido deck until they called our number.   The line moved with little wait and the whole process was less than 15 minutes.   

TIP:   Pack a sweater/jacket as the air conditioning works very well on this ship.  I often went outside to warm up.  

All and all my family and I enjoyed our vacation and will cruise again.

Glory Days

The Carnival Glory is a grand ship that is pleasing to the the eye. Every detail of this ship has been carifully and magically created by the designers. The staff was friendly and informative about the activities that were happening aboard the Carnival Glory. The cleaning team under Aurelio care did a fantastic job of keeping the rooms clean and I enjoyed that they folded the towels into animal shapes. The food aboard was creative and pleasing to taste. The cooking staff and the servers were always ready to make your dinner special.The cruise director kept the spirt alive making every day  grand.The islands were beautiful but my favorite was Belize. I saw temples that had been constructed along time ago that had held the test of time. The wild life was vast , Monkies swinging from the tree tops , a real adventure. Good job Carnival looking forward to setting sail again.

Sailing the Glory

The Carnival Glory was an excellent ship experience right down to the service for the dining room with our cruise servers Savio, Cassandra and Pavu. They gave us top notch service every single night. Then our stateroom steward Indra was great at keeping our room clean. We did three excursions in Hondorous, Belize, and Cozumel. We celebrated our grandsons birthday on the ship and they gave him special treatment with a cake and a gift from Dr. Seuss characters. We attended the Dr. Seuss breakfast which was a great time and breath taking decorations.  My other two grandkids loved everything and my little granddaughter was loved on by all the staff.  My only complaint would be my daughter was told that my granddaughter who is 15 months old could not swim unless she was potty trained, but after we talked with the service desk it was fixed.  Also the shows at night were so good, the dancers and singers held your attention to the fullest. It was a great time on Glory, so sad to leave and I would do it all over again. Thank you for a fantastic time Carnival Glory and all the staff! We love you!

Awesome cruise time

We are repeat customers.  Our son turned 21 and wanted to go to New Orleans.  My husband doesn't care for New Orleans so a cruise from New Orleans was the perfect option.  

Carnival never disappoints.  The cruise director, Dustin was always positive and got the crowd motivated.  The dining room staff Eko, Dominique and Cipta were always on point!

Embarkation was amazingly smooth.  The ladies directing cruise traffic needs to work on their Customer Service.  They were a little too sassy and not in a funny way!!  Customer Service should mean "friendly".  This is the first impression of your experience.  

The comedians were great!!  June reminded everyone that they were on vacation, love each other and have fun.  I think the reminder always goes far!!

I wish there were more dancing type shows on the ship.  

The Roatan excursion to see the kayaking, snorkeling, parrots and monkeys was the best!  Monkeys make everything better!!

The Tubing and lunch excursion in Belize had an extremely long ride.  The long ride for the short "guided" tubing experience was nothing I would recommend.  

All in all it was a fantastic experience on board!!!

We all had a great time!!

We chose this cruise because Port of NO is a great very fast port to use. It was worth the 8 hour drive to NO instead of fighting all the traffic that would’ve been in FL. Getting on and off were as easy as walking out to my mailbox. We were the only cruise at the port which is probably why. $22 a day to park was really freaking pushing it but again my car from the boat was like walking to my mailbox. My wife and I were bored most of the time. Things on sea days pretty much all cost extra money. $40 dollars for a couple bingo cards come on! She had been on NCL and said she was never bored. 

Okay here we go excuse the bullet points

1. Boat seemed larger than expected and decent amount of space for everyone considering most boats are now 3900 people. Glory has 2900

2. If you couldn’t find space in one of the 2 pools there are literally 6 hot tubs throughout the ships. 60 percent of time you could get in there comfortably. By the look of other videos I’ve seen of other ships the Glory does seem to have more room with the layout. 

3. I was disappointed in the souvenir shop clothes etc part. I thought with 2900 people it would be bigger. The jewelry store is 2x it’s size which is a money maker. 

4. Cruise director Dustin definitely worked extremely hard. I would just suggest him to slow down while talking especially directing a cruise in the southern part of the USA. Sometimes hard to listen to because of it. 

5. 50 percent of the staff on the boat seemed to dislike their job. I understand they literally get slaved but it’s kind of rubs off. 

6. Dining room. We had anytime dining. I would suggest going between 7-8. Dining times are 6 & 8 for scheduled. At least at that time the rush is slowing down before picking up. For the amount of people they serve I would give the service above average. We only had one bad experience out of the 7 nights and I asked to sit on other side which worked out great every night. The last 3 nights on the cruise the dining room food choices became limited to an upscale standard. 

7. Cabin. Definitely felt 2003. Pink colors with tan-yellow. Beds I would give 2 stars especially since it came out to being $315 a night for 7 days. Our steward sadly 2 days in a row took our beach towels and forgot to return them; which is a big no no considering their $30 a piece if considered stolen. I hunted him down to get them those 2 days. 

8. Deck 8 was our room. The rocking was never really bad I would say 2out5 we were in the front as well interior. 

9. Comedy club was I would say above average. We had 4 comedians and 3 were always average. 

10. Food on lido deck was average. Sometimes cold if you ate after 2 when coming back to boat on port days. It felt sort of disorganized with all the meats in to different areas of ships. 

11. Pizza pirate was average. The pizza is thin as 2 dollar bills. The logistics of it idk but there was usually a line with a wait during the day. 

12. Burger joint. Not something I want when laying out in sun. To hot to have a big greasy burger. Went and pooped about a hour after having one.

Hear me out

I have always said, "A bad day on a Cruise Ship is better than a good day at work.." Why,?? Because we are on a Cruise Ship..This is where I want to be. All the Carnival Ships that we have been on (Lets see now, ..9 ships so far) and we enjoyed them all. Yes, there are some problems, like boarding or getting off with all the other people, but, I say, each person is there doing what they want to do and they are arriving just like me, yes getting ready to go back home and job and such...well People, lets do it together......I will always Cruise and I will always Cruise Carnival.. They go out of their way to help and all the way down to our cabin steward, the service was excellant...Carnival Glory was a Great Ship, Crew were great people just doing their jobs, and we could not be more pleased..

Not our first cruise..

This was our second cruise, the first being with Princess last year. This time we took our kids, ages 9 and 13. Because of adding them, cost wise we opted to go with Carnival. I knew going in that the experience wouldn’t be the same as with Princess, especially in regards to food, but I did think that because Carnival owns Princess, the overall service experience would be similar. Also, we have several friends that have been on Carnival cruises and had positive experiences, so we went in with an open mind.

This cruise had a lot of pros and cons for me and my husband. Overall it wasn’t BAD, but it certainly wasn’t GREAT. 

Pros:

* My kids both loved the kids club activities. Even my teenager. 

* The shows we did go see were actually really good. Especially the epic rock performance. 

* Our room was actually very nice. Beds were extremely comfortable, and we had a decent amount of space for 4 people in one room. 

* The movie selections for movies under the stars were fairly decent. We saw Aquaman, Venom, and Wreck It Ralph 2, all of which we hadn’t seen yet. 

*Disembarkation and Embarkment actually went extremely smoothly. Though we had to go on a bit of a search for disembarkment info (the televised info kept glitching and restarting and we never received a flyer with the info). We chose to carry our luggage off ourselves and we were off the boat, through customs, and in our car by 8:45. 

Cons:

* We were extremely underwhelmed with the main dining room food. I had a bowl of penne pasta that was so al dente that some of it crunched. My husband had an appetizer that was supposed to be “beef skewers served with fresh island pineapple”, that ended up just being two small pieces of beef jerky chunk meat on some kind of quickly tossed cabbage with no skewers or pineapple. Extremely unappetizing to look at. That’s just a couple of examples. We ultimately ended up not bothering to go back to the main dining room, because we could get the same underwhelming food on the buffet and not have to deal with the scheduling headache.

*The entertainment schedule. We had the late 8:15 dining option. However, the schedule is built that main activities such as shows are at 7:30 or 9. Neither of which worked if you wanted to eat in your dining room. Had I known about the entertainment schedule, I probably would have chose the anytime dining. But we really liked having an assigned dining time and servers on our last cruise. It allowed us to get to know people. Additionally, there just didn’t seem like there was a lot of options of things to do that aren’t thinly veiled sales pitches. And yes, I know that’s a cruise ship thing, but this one felt like it was a solid 75% of the “entertainment”. There would be huge blocks of time on most sea days where you just didn’t have anything to do if you didn’t want to get a cold sale. The art gallery on Glory is stored in the White Heat nightclub that I guess they don’t use anymore, and a small tucked away room hidden in the entrance of the golden dining room. So you couldn’t even easily walk around and just look at the art if you were bored. 

* The food option schedule- the closing times on the food choices made no sense at all to me. The taco place and the bbq place close at 2:30 on sea days and 3:30 on port days. Guy’s Burgers closes at 6. I didn’t understand why these would be closed during dinner time at all, and I certainly don’t understand why some would close on sea days when everyone is on the ship and lines are longer at all food places. 

* State of the ship- my husband is a mariner, so we understand how hard it is to upkeep a ship, particularly one that is constantly exposed to salt water. However, the amount of rust all over the ship was pretty sad. Additionally, they seem to be dealing with some significant water issues. The 12th deck by the kids club had fans running on the carpet for almost the entire cruise, and the smell of mildew was extremely strong. On the second day of the cruise we were walking on the 4th deck and water was gushing out of a closet where they keep equipment. We notified staff and they were still working on it the next day when we went into port. On more than one occasion you’d hear gurgling sounds in the walls that were NOT the normal cruise sounds of flushing toilets or a shower running in a nearby state room. There were a few different times and spots where you’d see the fans blowing on wet carpet. 

* Service- This one might be slightly nit picky, but it was something I noticed that definitely effected my enjoyment. The service on this cruise was nowhere near the service I got on Princess. This could mostly be explained by ratio, I think princess operates at closer to a 2:1 ratio where Carnival is closer to 3:1. However, at one point I asked a dining room server where I could get a soda and she instructed me I needed to go to the bar and get it myself. The bars are the only places to get a soda, which I didn’t love. I didn’t like having to wait in multiple lines to eat and get a drink, and I wasn’t a huge fan of my kids having to go sit at the bar to order their own sodas. I don’t understand why they can have the self serve beer stations but not have self serve soda machines with similar card swipe situations. 

Hopefully this all made sense and you guys understand I’m not trying to sway anyone for or against Carnival. This is just what my family noticed. I think there’s a perfect fit for every kind of vacationer. We aren’t sit by the pool and drink people, and like to have a full list of options to do.

An overall OK cruise

I have cruised with Carnival over 100 days. I live close to 2 cruise ports and take advantage of the same day drive to the port. I picked this cruise because it was 8 days and went to Key West. I had not been there in 6 years. This was also my first trip to Half Moon Cay.

Embarkation was very smooth and we walked on the ship immediately after going through security. We had lunch at the Anchor BBQ and it was very good.

Overall we had a good cruise. There were some negatives. Our cabin was on the Riveria Deck in bow. The room was in good shape and the A/C worked very well. We heard some complaints by other passengers that their A/C did not work and rooms were warm. Our room steward did a great job.

We had late dining in the aft dining room. Late dining is not my cup tea. Eating at 8:30 to 9:00 is too late. This not the ships fault. We booked late and that is all that was available. The wait staff did a great job. However, the menu is becoming boring. The menu has had very few changes over the years.

I do not enjoy the shows in the theater. I did enjoy the family friendly comedy shows. The musicians were a mixed bag. The brass section was good and some of the solo artist were good.

Carnival is a lower end cruise experience. Carnival is not a luxury cruise ship and it is not a gourmet food experience. People will over indulge and you will hear more foul language than you may want to hear. We also had someone throw up in the main pool on the last sea day and it had to be drained and refilled. Also the hairy chest contest is not for children. It can be over risque when the participants have over indulged. On debarkation, 5 NO policemen and a police dog escorted someone off the ship in handcuffs.

Overall, we enjoyed the cruise and you can find plenty of places on the ship to get away from the crazies.

Key West Cruise

this Was the fourth cruise with Carnival. All the others had been outstandingly enjoyable so was really looking forward to this one. Another couple that has traveled with us in the past was also with us on this one. They had never been to Nassau and none of us had spent enough time in Key West. The ship, although rather aged in cruise vessels, was very well maintained. Not much rust was apparent and the ship was clean. The staff was exceptional as was expected. We ate our evening meal in the main dining room and the food was good but not as good as other cruises. The entertainment was very disappointing. The main shows lacked enthusiasm, the only bands were in the atrium and it was always crowded. I have always enjoyed the piano bars but it was always hard to find seating except on the Glory. My wife and I went to the piano bar and I was shocked to see so many empty tables and chairs. That is until the pianist begin playing and singing. He should not be allowed to be anywhere near a microphone.

One more thing, although the staff was very good, they seemed to be understaffed and overworked. My sister in law stated that had this been her first cruise she doesn’t think she would ever take another.
