I have to say straight away that the natural beauty of Alaska is GREAT, and reading the following review should not deter anyone from going to see such a wonderful place. Looking over the side of the ship to see Pacific White-Sided dolphins and Orca whales playing in the ship's wake is a real thrill. The train ride in Skagway is Great - The Glaciers are AWESOME. So for the Natural Beauty part - Alaska REALLY ticks all the boxes. We did tour Denali park an Anchorage on our own - had a great time. On morning of Sept 11 we dropped off the car at the airport, took a taxi to Alaska RR station and got the train ride to Whittier. It was a really neat to see whales, seals and eagles along the way as the train travels along the waterfront. And we weren't even on the ship yet! Cool! Now for the Princess part...did we come back "new"?... not really. More like "disappointed". We had paid extra for the full "suite" experience because we were looking forward to the nice amenities Princess would provide to us - wowzer we were surprised... The main problem wasn't that the balcony decking in suite C703 was broken with sharp holes - ask me how easy it is to get bloody feet if you're not wearing shoes. The balcony roof leaked in the rain and dribbled water down the sliding glass door into the room. The shower didn't work (trudge up 3 flights to the spa to get a shower), the hair dryer wasn't working, there were other people's clothes left in the drawers (the room was cleaned that well prior to our arrival) and the bed was worn out years ago. The main problem was that after we talked to the room steward & the front desk on the ship...and then calling the front desk and even trying to call the Princess main landline from Skagway: Absolutely nothing got fixed. OH - the front desk told us they'd have maintenance crew up there right away. They were pleasant enough. And we did see maintenance crews working on everyone else's bathroom. Apparently they didn't like us though since our room never got serviced. We tried asking several times....nothing. The only contact I've had with Princess since then was I got in touch with their "Customer Relations" department - and they say it'll be at least 10 WEEKS before anyone at Princess will get in touch with us. That's how much Princess cares really cares about their customers. They need to do better. Just keep that in mind if you book Princess... I would highly highly recommend you get a newer or more recently refurbished ship. The size and design of Coral is OK, but boy - at least for C703 - that lady needs to go in for some TLC. Read Less

This was our first cruise and it was a little disappointing. My expectations were sorely not met. The embarkation was very confusing. We were not given any direction upon boarding and were handed papers without any explanation. When we asked what we were given the crew stared at us like we were crazy. We had to find our cabin on our own as the crew just pointed to the elevator and said "go up to 8". Our cabin was not turned from the previous guest. The room had hair that wasn't ours everywhere and dirt on the ground. Our steward tried their best but I don't think they understood what we were trying to convey. We were pleasantly surprised by the size. Overall the food wasn't what we were expecting. We were expecting interesting food that we couldn't get anywhere else. It was mediocre at best. There was a good selection of vegetarian options. The pizzeria was probably the best. It was also difficult to get drink orders outside of sitting at the bar. The International Cafe was the most consistently good service and food. The public spaces were nice and the themes were interesting. The entertainment was not what we were expecting. We were expecting multiple different types of entertainment but there wasn't any. There was one theater show and 2 comics the whole 7 days. Most of the activities were during the day while in port, and in the evening it was just sales pitches or musicians performing in the bars. A lot of the interesting things overlapped and you had to choose what was more important, movie under the stars or the comedian or eating dinner, you couldn't do it all. Lastly the crew... some that were nice and greeted us every time we walked by but there a lot of rude interactions. Multiple times the front desk where the interaction was aggressive and rude. I called to ask if the coupon book was delivered to our room and the crew member repeatedly told me the book was "redeemed "and that I "needed to look better". When I walked down there the extremely rude staff told me again that the book was redeemed and then proceeded to call and yell at our steward. The front desk forced our steward off his break and come talk to us which cause our interaction with him strained and uncomfortable the rest of the trip. The worst was the Medical staff. They made my mother feel as though she was being punished for being sick due to the food and would not explain anything. The only saving grace of this cruise was the fabulous weather and scenery. Our travel agent recommended Princess and we chose it because the travel dates worked the best for our schedules. This was our first cruise. We took a train from Denali to Whittier where we boarded the ship. The train ride was long but comfortable and scenic. Embarkation went smoothly. The muster drill was delayed so we had to eat a hurried supper at the buffet. The ship seemed old and outdated. Several times we smelled a sewage type smell. The pizza was good but the other dining venues were underwhelming. We ate in the dining room once for breakfast. It took 45 minutes to get our food and it was cold. The butter wouldn’t even melt on the toast. Most of the food on the menu was the same food offered at the buffet. We ate at the Bayou Steakhouse and the steak was tough. The food at the buffet was just ok. Nothing was hot, just lukewarm. There was not a lot of variety in food options. Our cabin size was adequate but the furnishings were outdated and worn. The bathroom was small and there seemed to be a leak behind the toilet. There was a magician/comic who was pretty good. There was another comedian that was not very good. We played several of the trivia games and they were fun. The White Pass Railroad in Skagway and 5 glacier seaplane tour in Juneau were our favorite excursions. We did not enjoy Ketchikan that much and our bear watching excursion was the most expensive one we did but was also the least enjoyable and biggest waste of money. Disembarkation was smooth. In comparison to other cruises that we have taken, there were some obvious similarities as well as differences. Some services were great, some weren't. I will break it down (We took 7 day cruise with Coral Princess from Whittier to Vancouver). Embarkation/ Disembarkation: We boarded from Whittier, Alaska which is a fairly small port. Ours was the only ship. Luggage drop off and check in was very smooth as we already have our luggage tagged. We were in the ship in less than 20 minutes after we got off our bus (by the way, bus ride from Anchorage to Whittier was great and quite scenic. I highly recommend doing this if possible). Similarly, disembarkation was fairly smooth. One pointer is that they would drop off instructions out of your stateroom for luggage tags. If you want to change the time you get off ship, just go to customer service and they will be happy to change the tags for you. On the subject, we were considering transfer by cruise line from Vancouver cruise port to the airport which was 29$ per person if arranged by Princess. However, we decided to use private taxi service which was only 30 Canadian dollars for minivan taxi and was very comfortable. Please note that there is no Uber or Lyft in Vancouver. We did not get greeted while boarding in the ship like we have with Disney or Royal Caribbean. They both provide very warm welcome upon entering the ship. This was definitely missing here with Princess. Ship: Ship looked average size. Not too small, not too big. It was fairly easy to get to our stateroom with minimal help from staff. First impression of ship was that of a fairly clean, well maintained ship with passengers over 50. Cabin: Since we have one year old traveling with us, we decided to choose Ocean view rather than balcony that we typically choose. Stateroom was very clean, well maintained and didn't seem too cluttered. Proper use of the space was very evident in comparison to some other ships we have been in. Overall, good experience. Dining/ Service: As we had issues with this, I am going to combine the two. First day on the cruise, we went to talk to Maitre D as some of the people in our group wanted changes made to our menu which is what we have done for every cruise we have taken without issues. Usually, they are HAPPY to accommodate as it is very simple request. Maitre D on Princess gave us lecture on how US regulation doesn't allow him to cater different menus as he has to worry about food and guest safety. He made it sound like we are cruising for the first time. The request was as simple as providing Chinese/ Mexican/Indian food items for some of the meals for example. I don't see how that interferes with US regulations. He was very difficult to work with. Even some of the servers in buffet dining area (Horizon dining) were far outright rude. When we went to first night of dining, we made similar request to head server and he was very accommodating. Our servers in evening dining area were great. Food quality was above average but nothing to brag about. Not many choices besides Pizza and burgers in off times. Evening snacks were good. We did not have internet service for the entire first 24 hours and could not get internet manager to come on the phone to explain why. Even after that there were issues. When it worked, it was fast. On last day, they sent us a letter stating that we would get refund of one day as a gesture. Gesture would have been to make entire package complimentary. Giving money back for the service not used is not gesture, it is expectation. As Princess won't allow me to buy internet per day, they should not be allowed to refund it for a day either. For the inconvenience of no availability of internet, proper customer service would have been apology and full refund in my opinion (by the way, I am still waiting for my one day refund). Entertainment and activities: Limited choices of shows, very few performances. Big screen didn't show too many movies. Definitely can improve. Ports and shore excursions: As Alaska cruise is mainly about excursions, I would strongly recommend pre-booking excursions either directly with Princess which is what we did or independently. We saw many families who wanted to book on the ports and could not get as they were all sold out. We also strongly recommend checking charges. We have a one year old who was charged for all excursions when we pre-booked it but when the passes came, his passes didn't. Upon inquiry, they told us that infants under 1 are free for all excursions. However, we still got charged at the time of booking and yet to see refund. Conclusion: Alaska is a must see destination anyway. I strongly recommend cruise with excursions to enjoy wilderness as few friends who explored Alaska by renting a car and hotels at the same time we did cruise felt that they did not get to see as much when we compared notes and pictures. However, I would pick right cruise. It seemed like Princess Cruise was not family friendly with less family oriented activities with rude staff. Princess needs to change culture with focus on customer service for paying customers. We will probably not use Princess for our next several cruises. Read Less

We always wanted to try Princess...when friends asked us to join them on Princess we jumped at the chance. First the good: Itinerary was great...especially the Hubbard glacier and Glacier Bay Park. Really great close up views of glaciers with park rangers giving commentary. The bed was really comfortable. Unfortunately, those are the only good comments I have. Now the not so good: The food! The buffet food was the worst I have ever experienced on a cruise. Rice was crunchy, food was bland, limited selection. All 6 in our party felt this way. One dish was Italian bowtie pasta. It was nothing more than pasta with canned tomato sauce poured on it. The dining room food wad a bit better, but nothing spectacular. The service in the buffet and the dining rooms was pretty good. The service elsewhere on the ship was so-so....the crew seemed to be unhappy. Our cabin steward didn't learn our names like we've experienced on all previous cruises. The cruise director was irritating...at the conclusion of shows everyone would get up and start making their way out of the theater...then the cruise director would come out to make announcements. He'd tell everyone to sit down....so everyone had to turn around and go back to their seats...very irritating! How about making the announcements before the show? The bartenders didn't know how to make many of the drinks on the bar's specialty menu. They had to read the menu to make the drinks...really slow. We had problems with billing...I bought the premier drink package and was billed for drinks that should have been included. Guest services corrected the error. My wife purchased 3 spa treatments (to get a discounted package) and paid ahead of time. After each spa treatment our account was billed again. Not cool. I doubt we will ever sail Princess again....very expensive and terrible value. It amazes me when I read the positive reviews regarding food....maybe we just had bad luck? My wife and I (and the others in our party) were shocked at the poor food quality. Read Less

The itinerary and stops were great but the ship seems to be a little tired overall and maybe not the best value for the buck. So my vacation started with three days in Anchorage on my own.At this time the wildfires were pretty strong and every day there is a hazy smoke that you can smell and see that obscured the mountains. It was summertime and the highs are almost in the 80s which was unusual acording to some of the locals there. We wore T-shirt and shorts and maybe jeans towards the night time. Also the sun never really goes down it’s always bright even in 2 to 3 in the morning it’s still somewhat bright. We did not go to did Dinali Ben stayed up and stay with in a good area. The wildlife conservation was I want to visit worth doing it’s still nearby. I went fishing out of Seward for halibut caught my limit which is essentially 20pounds worth of halibut. Then I went to a nearby reindeer farm I forgot the exact name but that was the greatest little jam and I highly recommend it. It’s basically a giant petting farm but you get to see reindeer feed them EC moose and ox and elk. OK so to start the cruise we took a shuttle bus from the company ACB. it took about an hour from the airport through the tunnel which was neat onward to Whittier. The bus stops right in front of this giant white tent where the people take your luggage literally two steps away from the bus. Then from that tent you walk into the main building which has nice clean bathrooms and proximately up to 20 people to help check you win. Literally as soon as you get off the bus it took over 20 minutes to get onto the boat it was ridiculously fast. Maybe since the boat is smaller the embarkation is this fast I never had it this fast and easy before. There was no waiting around or anything you just literally get off the bus and non-stop walk and sign in and you get on the ship. Now this is when it gets a little disappointing. My neighbor said princess what is the best cruise experience he’s ever had. Also we read how princess is so good with service and the food is so good and that is basically the mid-level premium line for Carnaval. So I was expecting a little better type a cruise since I’m used to that type a level of service, my previous cruises been on Royal and Disney And Norwegian. We boarded the ship around 5 PM since it was going to leave around 8:30 PM. I expected our room to be completely ready to move-in but as we walked onto the boat into our room it was already been halfway prepared and we met our Steward. Man did he look tired and he reeks of smoke he Musta had just taken his break but he wasn’t the friendliest of guys but he wasn’t mean either he was just indifferent. Now here is my single most worst complaint. The room just smell like sweat. It came from the bedsheets mainly and pillows. It just smelled so bad he couldn’t sleep when you lay down your head on the pillow pillow that smells like sweat is the kind of sweat mold smell where when you leave wet laundry in your washer and forget it you forget about it for a few days and then you try to put in the dryer it’s that type of smell was really all the water sweaty smell in those from everything the sheets and the pillowcases even the actual pillows and maybe some of the carpet and even the lampshade it was just the most awful sweat smell like a possibly think of. finally we just couldn’t deal with it anymore and it was already now 10 PM since we ate dinner and came back and then decided my goodness we can’t sleep in this condition we can’t sleep with the sweaty smelling sheets. So then of course at this time the steward was off service and we had to go to the front desk. Now here is my second complaint. The front desk was manned by a single person at this time and it was a huge line now of like 10 people waiting with various complaints. This is ridiculous there should be more than one person manning The desk especially on the first day of embarkation since many people will most likely have some questions and things to address. AnyWho I told him while emergently I don’t expect them to replace all the sheets of all the beds system or four of us to replace so I said just give me a few pillowcases for an now and will deal with it and then the following morning. how do I mention how much the bed sheets and pillows smell like sweat man that alone totally destroyed my experience with princess. The onboard Internet Wi-Fi is not the best either. The instructions are horrible on how to set it up on your iPhone or iPad. Thank goodness there was an on-site IT guy who helped me set it up on my phone. This guy was probably the most busiest over the next few days. I frequently saw lines of like 20 people every morning at his desk ask him how to set up and sign up for the Internet service. He was very helpful and unfortunately he had to deal with poor instructions on the procedural level that needs to change somehow and princess. Now the food was kind of OK. It wasn’t the best I didn’t have that much variety of coarse it’s a smaller ship so I guess that’s the norm. And as compared to Royal or Norwegian The variety Wasn’t there especially at the buffet and choices of specialty dining. The coral princess had essentially two specialty dining restaurants, Sabatini Italian and Bayou Creole steakhouse. There’s also a third pop-up specialty dining restaurant featured in the buffet area called the crabshack. We ate at the Italian and crab shack and both Route K but for $30 seems a little not too worth it. But I did notice that desserts on princess cruise are actually quite good and probably the best of any cruises I’ve seen. Especially on that this specialty dining area is the desserts are different then you get from the buffet and main dining. so if you want to get like those weird special desserts that you see online in a like exploding round ball of chocolate and stuff I think it’s specialty dining is where you get them but I’d never saw any of those in the main dining room or the buffet area. But overall the food quality was decent it’s not the best of the cruises I’ve been on and I haven’t been on any premium cruise lines yet. Now they told me princess service was phenomenal and top-notch. I did not experience this. The service was a mixed eclectic group of various nationalities I believe from the Philippines, Italy, Romania, and the US. It must’ve been towards the end because boy everyone seems so tired and indifferent. No one was really mean but then again no one was really going out of their way to help you or be helpful it was a very passive style of service if you ask a question you get answered but you have to go around asking the questions and you have to go around asking for help. I’m probably spoiled and it’s not real problem for most cruisers but it does seem so distinctive. Here’s an example whenever I go out to a bar I’ll sit stand there and wait to make eye contact with the bartender. Usually the bartender will say “how can I help you”. But most the time they just stand there staring back at you until you have to say oh can I have a drink and then they usually have some type of banter but then there’s usually no verbal response so go ahead and make your drink and then they’ll give it to you.And then when you received a drink you say “thank you” and they usually say something like you’re welcome but again silence no response. It’s not bad service or they are being mean but it’s like an inch difference like they just don’t care seem to go out of their way to say you’re welcome enjoy your cruise I hope you have a good time tonight. multiply this type of service amongst all the people on the cruise line. From the dining to your steward to the guy trying to sell you the Tanzanite rings, it was kind of unusual I never seen this behavior before then again maybe I’m spoiled with the other cruise lines. My app is a comparison it would be Disney where they are actually over the top and go absolutely crazy with proactive service and there another premium cruise line they’re probably mid-level so that’s what I was expecting a princess from all the reviews and friends telling us how incredible princess Service was. The entertainment was pretty bad for me. I’m the type a guy with doesn’t really go to the casino. I don’t really like to drink or smoke or dance. I enjoy the gaming activities like bingo or game shows. I really enjoy Broadway style productions like they have a Disney and royal. I’m not really into that whole lounge music atmosphere or those weird disco dancing nights that they have on three shifts this is not my thing. The coral princess unfortunately was all about lounge music and dancing and little to no production shows our main act shows. He did have one production show called silk which is interesting take on the Korean folklore story. But only had one night of showing they should’ve shown that three or four nights thousand fabulous show instead all the other night they had weird disco nights and 80s music nights in bazaar cabaret dancing. I mean who cares about watching people dancing randomly on stage and singing nonsensical music I just don’t find those type of shows entertaining at all. And there were enough game Activities on the boat maybe only two a day. I remember on Norwegian it was constant think there is literally a game events in the atrium on the Norwegian boat every single day and was fun to be interactive with other folks with them. We brought the family with children and people say Alaska cruises are not child friendly and mostly for elderly adults. The kids club on princess was the absolute surprise. it actually is the reason why the cruise is up to a two star for us. For me to CRUISES) a one star but the kids cover so exceptionally phenomenal and made the kids happy that it basically alone justified the cruise. The staff there were absent remarkable and they had constant crafts and events to do during the kids club. If your kids are very craft like especially at the young age like five years old then this kids club is probably for them. Every night they’ll bring back to the room little trinket such as stuffed toys and T-shirts that they would hand color themselves pirate hats and balloon animals. The actual facility is very small and we were Kinda somewhat scared especially when the teacher told us over 500 kids signed up. This tells you how many kids are on the boat and is somewhat family oriented is not as adult oriented as you would think. Another complaint is that since this cruise is basically scenery in emphasis. It would have been nice if the cruise director proactively pointed out things during the cruise in real time. For example if there is a pod of whales swimming next to the boat it would be nice if he could just announce at him or the captain or somebody on the boat should announce overhead hey hey guys there’s a pod of whales next on the port side take a look. But no one dead and you have to basically look on the side of the boat on your own for hours and hours is trying to look for something. Nurs Sup, it’s about the stops and scenery sons particular cruise. One of the main reasons why we took this particular shift even though we knew was older and smaller was that it actually went into glacier Bay. Only a few of the smaller bus can go on to glacier Bay that we were told such as princess and Holland. Now of all the glaciers, the Hubbard bay stop what is the most impressive one. That glacier is absolutely huge and everything you see on line we see has many little broken icebergs everywhere in a gigantic wall of white looking nice that’s it that’s Hubbard. There is an excursion we take a smaller boat for about $250 which seems steep for only two hour excursion but that boat gets like within a couple hundred feet from the Glacier up close and the cool princess cruise but basically stops about a mile away which seems far and you can see the Quetion we need binoculars. I highly recommend that boat excursion even though cost a lot for like two hours you get right up to the glacier which is the whole point Of this entire cruise trip to gets closer to glacier and crashing and breaking and floating a part. now you gonna hear this from a few people but quite frankly the glacier Bay national Park wasn’t that great. And all you see roughly 2 to 3 other glaciers but you’re much much smaller than Hubbard and you don’t get that close to them either. You only get to see a few seals and maybe one whale and then I also saw one moose. The only real benefit is that the national Park Rangers get on board your ship to help explain what the glacier national Park is all about. In brief the other stops like Seward and Ketchikan and Juno we’re decent and I highly recommend excursions. I realize Alaska is a different type of cruise it’s not so much the boat it’s really all about the excursions. My favorite excursion was from Ketchikan Which involves a wilderness boat ride and seafood dinner at Silver king Lodge. we ended the cruise in Vancouver which is a beautiful city but man what a hassle doing all their customs and passport deals. In hindsight will be better just to go in and out of Seattle that way you have to deal with customs or anything of that sort. While Vancouver we do the hop on hop off option and direct airport we did deliver your bags directly there. It was a kind of pricey excursion price for it but it’s worth it just to have them take the luggage directly from your room on the boat essentially directly to the airport it’s all you do was hang out in Vancouver and then when you’re done you took their subway bus directly to the airport in 40 minutes. Oh by the way the international concourse in Vancouver is phenomenal it’s very fancy with the fancy shopping I saw a $60,000 bottle of whiskey for sale it’s in sane and very beautiful selfie in the airport airport lounges vancouver it’s pretty just decent international airport on your way back to the US. In summary the boat was not the best experience we won’t cruise with Princess again in Alaska. The excursions and stops are great and that’s where the real value of the trip is. If I had to do Alaska over again Since I have kids I would’ve picked the largest newest boat With the most activities and still go to Hubbard glacier as a primary stop. Glacier Bay national Park is not the most important stop in my opinion and you don’t need to go on some all dirty boat just to go to the club just to go to that park. Read Less

Five travelers ages 58,57,56,22,21. Enjoyed the ports in Alaska and the accommodations were perfect (balcony/suite). There were few activities during the day (unless you like trivia) and the evening entertainment did not meet our expectations; no karoke, no dance club, productions were less than average and the comedy shows are not offered nightly and not very good either. Cruise ship seemed like a ghost town after 10pm. No late night dining or snack options. Somewhat disappointing for our young adult daughters. Poor service every night in dining room; took on average 20 minutes to get drinks and another 20 minutes to be served. The food was tastier at the buffet than at dinner. Our 21 and 22 year old daughters were disappointed in the age of the crowd cruising on the Coral Princess. Not sure if this is the case on every Alaska cruise line, but if you're looking for entertainment for the young adults, you might consider another cruise line. If you want to see Salmon, wait until July or August. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of Glacier Bay. And we hadn’t sailed with princes yet. The good. Service staff in the dining room was exceptional. Same with cabin staff. Food was ok in buffet and very good in main dining room. Plenty of room around ship, never felt crowded. The bad. Main dining took forever, every night. I’m talking to hours plus for dinner. Biggest problem was that we booked multiple cabins. My dad is is 80 was promised a cabin next to ours and we were put on deck 12 and he was on 5. (We used the assigned cabin feature to save money) The point is you cannot trust what the phone representatives tell you. We used the princess website to put in food allergies for a couple of the guest. Staff had no clue when we went to dinner the first night. No robes in room which was another request. Entertainment was definitely subpar compared to other cruises I’ve been on Customer service at the service desk ,could care less and our problems. And that’s what I saw as they dealt with other people. You should definitely choose a different line based on my experience and opinion. Read Less

This was one of the worst Princess cruises I have ever been on. The music in the lounges was old and tired and lacked any type of variety, the onboard activities were sad, to say the least. Princess really needs to get past the love boat theme, there is a reason that show is no longer on the air. The cabin was as expected. The production shows and comedians were good. I would like to see princess do what Carvinal has adopted with their comedians and have an early G-rated show and then a show later that is more R-rated. No sports type bar on this ship and no attempt to cover the NCAA championships anywhere other than on TV in the cabins. As far as service goes, it was up to par, but the waits of up to 60 min to get seated using anytime dining was anything but acceptable. Best food on the ship, in my opinion, was at the Grill. The indoor lounge was packed with smokers, and the ventilation was poor. No sports bar. You had to be in your room to watch sports on T.V. Food was good in the buffet and had great staff. Anytime dinning you were given a beeper to be called when a table was ready. It took about an hour, so we ended up eating in the buffet everyday. Only ship doing full Panama Canal transit at time of the booking. May be the first person to loose weight on a cruise ship Ship just came out of dry dock. Suppose to be in Ft Lauderdale night before cruise but didn't arrive until 10 am cruise day prior to cruise. Long wait in terminal. Ship was dirty. Mud / salt on cabin balcony walls & floor. Finally used pool towels to clean area and furniture ourselves. Most exterior public areas filthy. Deck furniture filthy. Cabin bathroom. First 4 days sink drain plugged. Had to dip dirty water from sink with glass to use sink. For 5 days toilet valve was stuck causing toilet to overflow on floor. Every morning bathroom floor was flooded and carpet outside bathroom was wet. Cabin Stewart said maintenance didn't have any repair parts to fix toilet valve. Next 3 days toilet didn't leak but didn't have any water to flush toilet. Had to get water from the shower to flush toilet. Drink service in public areas was terrible. some times 15-20 minute wait for drinks. Most of the time went to bar, tired of waiting on servers. First 2 days of cruise not allowed on upper & sport decks. Crews were still working on ship from dry dock. Sport deck equipment poor. Shuffle Board some equipment missing, deck so rough the pucks wouldn't slide. Court netting loose / torn at several areas. Prominade deck at one end cluttered with shipping crates and rolls of carpeting. Barley room to walk through. Daytime entertainment almost didn't exist. Almost no entertainment on exterior deck. If you did play Trivia or Rip-Off Bingo there wasn't much of anything else to do. Movies under the stars was highly promoted but out of service most on the cruise. Night theater entertainment was excellent. Theater was over crowded and difficult to get seating if not there 45 minutes early. Don't expect drink service, only 2 waiters for the whole theater. Show time scheduled later so both early & late dinners could attend the show at same time causing over crowding of the theatre Getting cocktails in the casino was impossible. One time I seen a waiter walk through but never stopped. Had to go to another bar and get drinks yourself. Food quality was poor. Buffet special was only 1-2 pans. Rest was repeat every day. Food at bottom of pans stuck from being warmed over. Main dining room menu almost the same everyday, usually only had 1-2 changes. Rest was same items every day. Dinner rolls at all dining areas were hard and dried out. Couldn't cut through crust with dinner knife. Dissert was good Probable never again travel with Princess Read Less

This was our 8th Princess cruise and it will be our last. The ship was not ready for passengers. The pool was closed the first 2 days while it was being painted. Many public bathrooms were closed the first few days while they were being repaired. The Movies Under The Stars worked the first couple of days, then never worked again. The overall feel of the ship was unlike any other cruise that we have been on. The service was poor. The food was poor the first week. It improved the second week. Lunch in the dining room took at least an hour and a half. If one person asked to have their water glass refilled, the rest of the table was ignored. I gave up getting a Diet Coke for dinner in the dining room. It would take 15 -30 minutes to arrive. Several times we tried to buy a bottle of wine from the wine list to find out they were not available. Our room was not clean. There was food under the desk when we arrived. It was there when we left 15 days later. The towels were old and stained. The balcony was never cleaned. I never saw anyone cleaning railings or other public areas. The pool towels were thin and stained. The entertainment was average at best. The singers and dancers were good but we didn't see them until day 10. There were very few activities during the day. Most of them were sales pitches for the spa or jewelry shops. We felt like there was a charge for everything. I bought the soft drink package and was not able to use it the first day. I asked about it at the desk and was told I could start using it the second day. I could list many other issues but this gives a good idea of the problems on board. Read Less

The service was poor, the meals were nothing to write home about, but our cabin and the ports were great. Also great was Doug Funk, one of the entertainers. He’s so funny. We’ve seen him on other Princess Cruises,so we were happy to see him on this one. The entertainment is usually campy on Princess. Their broadway shows are laughable. But on this cruise we had a magician, a guitarist, a pianist, Doug funk, who were all great. The problem is that the Princess band must play with the entertainers and although they are good, they are too loud and tend to drown out the main act, especially the horns and drums. What a headache. The ports were all good,as were most of the shore excursions. I mentioned the food and service. We’re Elite on Princess and have noticed a rapid decline in service and all around quality since Carnival took over. They cut corners everywhere and made us feel we were on a substandard cruise line. I’ve never seen so much recycled food. Some items had been converted to other dishes at least 3 times. The hot doges were pretty Good, the burgers were half the size of the bun. We had a serious delay in our departure due to this old boat coming out of dry dock. But they didn’t waste any time getting us off at the end. We have to reconsider our booked cruise to New Zealand on Princess. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had heard great things about the Princess Cruise Line and Princess' Panama Canal Cruise. This was our first time on Princess Cruise Line and we were shocked and dismayed at the Coral Princess’ condition when we embarked at Ft. Lauderdale. Our stateroom had dirty windows leading to the balcony. The balcony had paint on the floor and chairs along with debris on the balcony floor. There was a drill bit under the vanity (this was dangerous with bare feet) and construction trash in one corner. The biggest problem was a half inch of water on the bathroom floor. We spoke to our Room Steward about the water and he immediately cleaned the water using towels and called technical services. About a half hour later, he told us the problem was fixed. We thanked him and considered the matter closed. We went to dinner and the show and returned to the stateroom around 10:00PM and found there was not only water in the bath, but that it had now spread to the carpet and was heading for our unpacked luggage. We moved the luggage and contacted Customer Relations, which took a while since they were very busy. The Night Customer Relations Manager came to the room, had someone come to vacuum the water and arranged for a plumber to repair the toilet. After the plumber visited (now about 1:00AM) the Night Customer Relations Manager said a valve was broken and there were no replacement parts on board the ship. We were stunned at this news since there were over 1000 of these toilets on the ship and no replacement parts. I asked about another cabin and he said there were no cabins available. He explained we could dry flush the toilet or use one of the public toilets on this ship and left. We were appalled at this response since we never had an experience like this on any of our previous cruises on other lines. We decided during the night to disembark at Cartagena and head back home. In the morning, we went to Customer Relations to see if they could help us arrange travel back home. This is when we met the daytime Customer Relations Manager. He asked why we wanted to leave the ship, we explained our situation, and his response was genuine surprise and he explained that what we had was not a “Princess Experience”. He asked if he could have a day to resolve our problem, this was fair and we agreed. His calm professionalism was evident during the day; he provided regular updates, provided us with a key to an empty stateroom in our area where we could use the toilet, and found another potential stateroom for us to use. By 5:00PM that evening Technical Services scavenged parts from an unused stateroom to use to fix our toilet. He also provided compensation for our inconvenience and dinner at one of the restaurants. He not only saved our cruise, he saved the relationship with Princess Cruises. Was there a bright spot on this cruise? Absolutely, the Crew was phenomenal. Despite dealing with a ship with many problems (we were not alone), we found the Captain and Crew terrific even though many of them were exhausted from dealing with a poorly serviced ship. Our Room Steward, Dinner Waiter, the Cruise Director and staff, and the Buffet staff were wonderful. We know we were not the only people with problems on this cruise from talking with other passengers. There were electrical problems throughout the ship, such as the movie under the stars screen not working until the last day at sea. When something did not work properly, it was described as being “dry docked”. We feel that Princess management should be ashamed of themselves for sending out a ship that was clearly not ready for passengers. The excursions were excellent. Princess did a good job of vetting their tour operators. The destination expert did a great job of discussing each port's history and highlights. The dinning experience was above average due to our Wait Staff. The entertainment was mostly individual entertainers backed by the ship's band. We were surprised that there were only two (2) real shows on a 15 day cruise. We had experienced a much higher percentage on other cruise lines. We found ourselves spending a lot of our evenings in the lounges due to the good entertainment there and the Cruise Director's and Staff's trivia shows. We had breakfast on our balcony one day and really enjoyed that. The window to the balcony was not cleaned until day 12 of the cruise and the balcony was never cleaned; however, once we could flush we had a great time on the remainder of the cruise. Because of the Captain and Crew we will give Princess Cruise Lines another try, but certainly not on a ship heading out of dry dock. Read Less

The ship needs an overhaul. Common areas are a tad ragged. Service in the dining rooms was indifferent. The dress code is not enforced which diminishes the overall experience. Hawaiian polo shirts on formal night just doesn't make it! The food, for the most part was just OK. Entertainment was not so great. The forced musical numbers were horrible and we walked out. Good comedians. There was not many places on the deck to sit and read as the big screen at the pool was constantly on with either music, ads, or movies even when the forward decks were closed because of high winds. Gidget Goes Hawaiian was one of the movies- REALLY! It also would have been nice if an officer (security) walked the deck and asked folks not to play their Bluetooth boom boxes. The sailing through the canal was very nice especially with the narration. We won't sail with them again. Very disappointed. Read Less

One of the highlights of every cruise I have been on is the food. The food on this cruise was horrible. Frequently the buffet repeated the food of the previous day, and would offer 3 types of pork as it's main entre selections (and the same baked chicken which was always present). The same food served on the buffet would be on the menu for dinner table service. One night 5 of 6 people at my table ordered lobster, and we all returned it- it was rubbery, very salty and smelled terrible). Seriously, almost everyone I spoke with complained about the food, it was awful and not up to the standards of even a discount family restaurant. Two nights I ordered a steak (at an additional cost) and both times they were tough and dry. One meal took over an hour before the entrees were served. The best food on the ship was the hotdogs by the main pool on deck 15, and I frequently resorted to that after not completing a dining room meal. Oh, and the French fries were good. The general service on the ship was very good. Although there were several entertainment highlights which were outstanding, most of the nightly shows were mundane and lackluster. Not many interesting daytime activities. Heavy (in your face) art auction and jewelry store "once-in-a-lifetime lucky you" auction/sale barrages, and a so-so lecture series throughout the cruise discussing the history of medicine, but other than Bingo, not a lot to entertain you during the day unless you like-- no, love chamber music, board games or sewing circle type activities. A metal protrusion was sticking out of a wall where a handrail was missing, and cut my arm one evening. The ship made me pay my own on-board clinic visit made necessary by this injury, and did not re-emburse me for this expense. We were not in territorial waters and the casino closed at 11:45 p.m. on New Year's Eve, and did not reopen until the following day. (Seriously, what casino closes on New Year's Eve? Apparently, Princess Cruise casinos do. Absurd.) One the plus side: great staff and very organized excursion disembarkation. Many passengers who had previously cruised with Princess many times stated this was a bad cruise and not typical of their experiences on other Princess cruises. Overall, in my opinion, this was a boring cruise. It had unacceptably bad food, offered mostly lackluster entertainment and daily activities, and was basically a tired uninspired cruise. Would never want to do it again. Read Less

The itinerary sounded so good. Alaska, Asia and South Pacific. Unfortunately we missed the first port in Japan due to weather. A second port was missed because of lack of fuel in the second biggest port in Japan - Yokohama. What an excuse! The ship left the pier as scheduled only to drop anchor 45 min. later where we remained overnight ( no commend or explanation from the bridge ) only to return to the pier the next day to refuel. At times we weren't sure if the captain was actually on board, only heard from him when he had bad news for the passengers. The rest of the top brass seemed to hide and never interacted with passengers. Princess entertainment was of very poor standard. The production shows lacked of talent and stage settings ( another cost cutting by Princess? ). The local folkloric performances were the highlights. Dining - hmmm outdated menu with 3 week rotation in dining room. Food was poorly prepared and waiting staff showed minimal interest and care for passengers, also long waiting times. Complained to the Ex-Chef several times in writing, never heard from him.On board activities were mediocre of cheapest nature( ring tossing, 60 sec. challenge, egg drop, ping pong, trivia etc. ) Shore excursions overpriced and poor group organisation before tour departure. At times the sewer smell near the theater was overwhelming. Musty smell and wet carpet on several decks caused water leaks. Princess Patter at times showed wrong dates, venue and times for activities, as well as the shuttle bus information for the disembarkation port ( Mami not LAX ). On a positive note - the Horizon Food Court staff was very attentive, friendly and provided service with a smile. The food quality and variety was enjoyable ( theme nights like Ramen, Mongolian and National ) and well received. Read Less

I live in NYC and have sailed many times on NCL. Two years ago I did a three-month voyage aboard the Holland America Rotterdam. I've also sailed twice with Oceania. I was attracted to this trip by its itinerary, which would include Alaska and many Asian ports. It was my first Princess cruise and I booked a mini-suite. I was stunned by the mediocrity. As many others have already noted, we missed ports, the food was bland and repetitive, the ship ran out of basic items (lettuce!) for days. There was a leak in my cabin, I had to stay on top of the staff to make sure it was taken care of [they wanted to put me in another (lesser) cabin overnight], I insisted that they fix it so I would not have to move. With the exception of Chris Impey, a noted astronomer and author from the University of Arizona, the lecturers were laughable. Princess apparently doesn't vet the lecturers at all. Inaccuracies abounded. We never saw the Captain; all decisions were attributed to "corporate"; no one took responsibility. I had three different cabin stewards; they changed without warning. Often my cabin was not made up until the afternoon. The excursions were, more often than not, bus transportation to sites and the "guide" functioned more like a chaperone than a guide. (Notable exceptions in Alaska, Taiwan, and South Korea were very good.) The noon announcements, about the ship's progress, weather conditions, etc., were sometimes done by a crew member whose accent was so strong the information was incomprehensible. The tours listed online were often unavailable. So far as I could tell, the ship excursion staff waited until enough demand was shown to actually provide a trip. Many of the excursions I'd seen on the website when I was planning the cruise turned out to be unavailable. Bait-and-switch. The "library" was a room with cabinets empty of books, with the exception of some reference volumes and, unaccountably, a couple of shelves of volumes in languages other than English. Weirdly, and this sounds like an exaggeration, the cruise was more like a white-collar prison than a luxury voyage. Read Less

This was our 30th cruise on Princess and the worst we’ve been on.☹️ The itinerary was 60 days round trip from LA to Asia. The ship itself was poor. On the embarkation day there were fewer than 50 books in the library! Not acceptable! The entertainment director told me it was because people hadn’t returned the books. That is not true. There were none to begin with. The food was relatively boring-lots of stews from the previous day’s meats. Fish dishes were not specifically named as on other princess ships. Few production shows on the first half of the trip-2 in 25 days. Some type of MAJOR problem led us to remain in Yokohama harbor for 24 hours and then go back to the terminal to refuel causing us to miss Osaka. Comments and requests made to entertainment director unanswered after several written requests. The fire head sprinkler sprayed after a testing and continued to drip the rest of the cruise leaving a wet carpet. A note from from the previous people stated it had happened to them as well. 60 days of dripping with no fix! We got truffles as an apology. The dining rooms were poorly managed-sometimes a 30 minute wait with many empty tables. When my husband mentioned it to the maitre dee, he replied with “I’m the manager” The disembarkation for the tours were disorganized and inefficient. Several of the tours were expensive-$200 each to the Great Wall with a tour guide that told us nothing about the wall-she had never heard of the Yangtze River! Comments made to the tour desk were never answered. The room television is very antiquated-looping movies and repetitive TV show. 4 and 5 times of the same. We did likeMiranda the cruise director and Sarah the orchestra manager. Sarah is so talented and really gets into the music! Reymond our room steward was terrific. The one that took over-not so much. We will never cruise on Coral Princess again-no matter why the itinerary is. Read Less

We have been on 61 cruises, of which almost half have been on Princess. This was the worst of the Princess cruises we've been on. Severely cut back on crew, food service, little things and everything. Bare bones. Horrible food in dining room with slow service. Apparent morale problem with 90% of crew. Other cruise ships like their officers walking about and connecting with passengers; we seldom saw any, and those we did see did not make eye contact or acknowledge passengers. Most fellow passengers we spoke to agreed with us about all of the shortcomings of this cruise ship. In fact, we were unable to go to Osaka Japan because the fuel barge that was to resupply us in Yokohama did not show up when scheduled "due to weather". None of us believed them, thinking that this was one more slip up by someone who failed to schedule the barge. So we had to stay in Yokohama for two more days, thus missing Osaka. Read Less

Review for Princess Cruises – Alaska Inside Passage Northbound, Coral Princess Five Thumbs Down I have been on two other cruises, one to the Caribbean with Norwegian Cruise lines, which was incredible in all ways that you would imagine a cruise being. The other was a smaller ship holding 99 people and sailed in The Galapagos, it was fabulous and in a league of its own. On Boarding It was chaotic, unorganized and generally not a great experience. Norwegian, with its ship capacity of 7000 was organized, concise and easy to board. Princess had multiple lines to wait in and crammed too many people together. This ship only held 3000 with the crew. Customer service was average. The food was not just bad, in some cases inedible. The first night I tried the prime rib, it came out as a vacuume packed blob of meat that looked like it had been processed, no resemblance of a steak at all. The baked potato had to have been three days old and even smelled old. I let my friend try a bite, she agreed, it was really bad. I pushed my plate to the side and went for their rolls and then a cream brulee, both very good and the only thing that got us through the trip. My friend had the salmon, tasteless and dried out. We watched as the waiter came out with another prime rib plate delivering it to the lady sitting at the table next to ours, she took one bite and pushed the plate away. Unfortunately, the bad food continued for the duration of the trip including not just a dinner meals but the café on the top floor. Entertainment They had two comedians perform, both were good. They also had Naturalist speakers discuss all topics related to Alaska and the wildlife, that was informative. Other than that, there was bingo, learn how to play the harmonica and a few other very mediocre activities available. Upgrades Drink package. For an extra 400.00 per person, we took this package. Unless you are a big drinker, you will over pay. On average we had about 4-5 drinks per day. I would say we lost about 200.00 choosing this option. Norwegian had great white wine choices, Princess had one and it was average. Pre-paid gratuities – This does not transfer over to the train ride or any other meals on land. Beds – They were comfortable however, the bedding had stains on them, both the sheets and the comforter Princess Train – Not worth the money and the 8/9 hour ride was extremely uncomfortable, drinks were pricey. It was a wasted day. Princess Wilderness lodges – NOT RECOMMENDED. Their lodges are on par with Days Inn. The reception has a great view of Denali Mountain but the buildings where the guests stay were meager. We stayed in one of their lodges in Denali and that wasn’t even in the Denali Park area. The only wine they serve is Sutter Home…. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, after checking in to the “ Princess Wilderness Lodge” we discovered the bedding in horrible shape. Fresh blood on the pillow case, bedding had not been changed, only the bed spread pulled up over the sheets. The toilet had not been cleaned, it wasn’t pretty. Weather Freezing – not sure why they would advertise tours in the month of May. All of the bears wake up in June for the Salmon run. Read Less

The ports were great and Princess handled the arrivals and excursions very well. My husband and I enjoyed the touring and we have no complaints about the way the naturalist narrated the on-ship visit to the glaciers. The cruise ship left lots to be desired. We had a mini suite and paid for club class. The first evening I spent from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM waiting for a maintenance person to figure out why our toilet wouldn't flush. He had to cut into a wall and although he resolved the issue, the odor in the bathroom persisted all seven days. I had considered asking for another cabin, but when I heard about the problems that others were experiencing, I decided not to do that. Others had water pouring into their suites and large commercial dehumidifiers set up to dry out various areas. The dehumidifiers were also set up in some of the hallways. Other people mentioned the odor that was quite foul—combination of garbage and sewage. I was not impressed with club class. We signed up for it since it was advertised that we would get preferred seating and special selections in the dining room. We did get preferred seating, but there were no special selections. The club class also included canapés each evening. Since they came the first two days without ordering, I was surprised to find that on the third day, they had to have been ordered 24-hours in advance. The food was not what we have come to expect on cruise ships. Our most recent experiences had been on Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. The food on those lines was fabulous—tasty and top class. On Princess, sauces had no taste and steaks were tough. I learned after the first few days to order fish, which was much better. The salmon was especially good, but there weren't enough meals that were memorable. Fresh vegetables were scarce and desserts were not that good. We ate dinner late and had been accustomed to attending the entertainment at a late showing on previous cruises. We missed some of the entertainment because we had dinner late. The service up at the pool level was terrible. I had to get up and walk to the bar each time I desired a drink. The app that Princess set up so that we could communicate via text message with other passengers was interesting but not practical. It did not send notifications. So, messages were received, but unless you were staring at the phone or checking regularly, there was no way to know that a message was received. Another thing that I think Princess has to consider is that just because one of the persons in a couple made the arrangements, both will have expenses and opinions. My husband made the arrangements online, but both of our emails were registered with Princess. In advance of the trip, I received many emails requesting that I book excursions. After the trip, only he received an evaluation form. I went online and requested my own form, but did not receive one. Additionally, on the app used for managing expenses incurred while on the ship, he could see my charges, but I could not see his. If it is a "room" account, we should no longer experience such discrimination. Read Less

We took this cruise with our daughter and her family because of the program that they had to keep our 15 year old grandson busy. Having just returned from a wonderful SilverSeas cruise in May, we were greatly disturbed by the tasteless food in the dining rooms, the lousy coffee that was served everywhere, and the extra $3.50 charged every time you wanted an espresso or cappucino. The final blow came at check out when after paying over $7,000 for the cruise and tours, we were hit with a $2.30 charge for a small bottle of water in our stateroom. That hurt. The only good thing about the cruise were the evening floor shows that kept us entertained. This was our 6th cruise with Princess and probably our last. In our view, they are not the same company that we have been cruising with for the last 15 years or so. Read Less
