Our ship had been in dry dock and arrived later than planned. There are very long lines outside. When we finally got in, after waiting over an hour......we then had to wait in the hall......yes, there were chairs, but not enough.....some people gave up their chairs to people who needed it (not all disabilities are visible) and sat on the concrete floor.....that was not a good beginning! We choose this cruise because we wanted to experience all the locks of the Panama Canal.........it is an amazing experience. Throughout the day we had a guide on board who gave wonderful information This trip had 3 tender ports, that always takes more time with getting to shore. We had a cabin on the C deck.....this was our 21st cruise.....and the cabin was not cleaned; debris on the floor, full trashcans and a dirty bathroom/toilet.......our room carpet was not replaced,it was dirty....... I found my steward he was very apologetic and took care of it..... This time I was also disappointed by the food. We went to the any time dining room, loved our waiters and headwaiter. I am a vegetarian and every night they make sure I get something I like.....except a few nights they just gave me steamed vegetables.... But the barista knew my name and what kind of coffee I liked....the chef at the International Cafe would get my croissant.....I felt spoiled. We were a little disappointed that we only had 4 shows with dancers....There were a lot of comedians on this trip.....not my thing. But I had a great trip, beautiful places....the excursion in Costa Rica: waterfalls and animal sanctuary, were amazing...and yes, we’ll keep cruising. Read Less

This was the first cruise of the Coral Princess after a rehab in dry dock. Carpets have been replaced, flat screens added to all rooms with satellite reception, new paint and improved internet access are among the changes. The ship is small and was built for the Panama Canal. Overall the cruise gets high marks. My husband and I are in our early 60's and were among the youngest people on the ship. Lots of folks with walkers, wheelchairs, scooters and canes. Excellent weather, no rain and not too hot. We did the Princess excursion "Aromas and Flavors of Cartagena" which was excellent. Demonstration and coffee tasting, local cooking class and tour of the Old City. Very well done. We were a group of 28, split into two class groups. The small size allowed for a high level of interaction with the guides and young people who were teaching the classes. Humberto is the ship's guide to the Canal. He did a fabulous job of narrating the passage through the Canal all day. We made our way around the ship throughout the day. The emergency doors on level 11 was opened so we could view the locks from the front of the ship. This is not advertised. So check "non-traditional" access points. Princess is one of the few ships that stops at Puerto Amador. We did the train trip and the new locks. We did the dome car which wasn't worth the extra expense. There wasn't much to see that you would miss if you were below. Save your money. The new locks are very interesting especially when compared to the old locks and well worth the time to visit. Our tour also took us through the city and past the old town. No stops just the bus ride. Costa Rica was our least favorite stop. All excursions are very long as they take you a good distance from the port of Puntarenas. We did the tour of the Botanical Gardens, Coffee Plantation and some old church. The Botanical Gardens left much to be desired. Birds in very small cages and green houses of orchids that need more TLC. The Doka Coffee Plantation was excellent. We could have spent another hour there, but the guide hustled us on the a public park and church. This stop could have been eliminated and we would have been able to see all that the coffee plantation had to offer. Way too long on the bus. In Nicaragua, we did the Hacienda on Lake Nicaragua. Very relaxing. It's a working hacienda. The family was our host. Local dancers performed traditional dancers and local crafts were demonstrated. Lunch was delicious. This is not an exciting adventure. I sat with the lake in hammock and renewed my soul. My husband watched the performances of the horses and interacted with the local folks. Our last stop was in Cabo. We did the half day sailing adventure. It was fabulous. Wonderful guide. Plenty of food and drink. We saw about whales, sea turtles, marlins and a variety of birds. We had a wonderful room steward and great waiters for dinner. We chose the Anytime Dining but had the same table every night. Food was better than average. Food that we did not like was relaced quickly. Activites on sea days left much to be desired. Mostly trivia, and craft kits during the day. Each night was a different performer. Three nights were productions. All others were one-person shows. Comics with jokes that addressed the age of the majority of the guests. The "enrichment speaker" was terrible. Very dated presentations with extremely poor visuals (think powerpoint with old B/W videos embedded). The wine tasting was excellent as was the cooking demonstration by the Chef and the Head of the Hotel and the tour of the galley. All in all, it was a very relaxing expereince. No drama. This was our 8th Princess cruise and it will be our last. The ship was not ready for passengers. The pool was closed the first 2 days while it was being painted. Many public bathrooms were closed the first few days while they were being repaired. The Movies Under The Stars worked the first couple of days, then never worked again. The overall feel of the ship was unlike any other cruise that we have been on. The service was poor. The food was poor the first week. It improved the second week. Lunch in the dining room took at least an hour and a half. If one person asked to have their water glass refilled, the rest of the table was ignored. I gave up getting a Diet Coke for dinner in the dining room. It would take 15 -30 minutes to arrive. Several times we tried to buy a bottle of wine from the wine list to find out they were not available. Our room was not clean. There was food under the desk when we arrived. It was there when we left 15 days later. The towels were old and stained. The balcony was never cleaned. I never saw anyone cleaning railings or other public areas. The pool towels were thin and stained. The entertainment was average at best. The singers and dancers were good but we didn't see them until day 10. There were very few activities during the day. Most of them were sales pitches for the spa or jewelry shops. We felt like there was a charge for everything. I bought the soft drink package and was not able to use it the first day. I asked about it at the desk and was told I could start using it the second day. I could list many other issues but this gives a good idea of the problems on board. Read Less

The service was poor, the meals were nothing to write home about, but our cabin and the ports were great. Also great was Doug Funk, one of the entertainers. He’s so funny. We’ve seen him on other Princess Cruises,so we were happy to see him on this one. The entertainment is usually campy on Princess. Their broadway shows are laughable. But on this cruise we had a magician, a guitarist, a pianist, Doug funk, who were all great. The problem is that the Princess band must play with the entertainers and although they are good, they are too loud and tend to drown out the main act, especially the horns and drums. What a headache. The ports were all good,as were most of the shore excursions. I mentioned the food and service. We’re Elite on Princess and have noticed a rapid decline in service and all around quality since Carnival took over. They cut corners everywhere and made us feel we were on a substandard cruise line. I’ve never seen so much recycled food. Some items had been converted to other dishes at least 3 times. The hot doges were pretty Good, the burgers were half the size of the bun. We had a serious delay in our departure due to this old boat coming out of dry dock. But they didn’t waste any time getting us off at the end. We have to reconsider our booked cruise to New Zealand on Princess. Read Less

The dining room and cabin steward were great. The ship just came out of dry dock and there were technical problems with the Movies at Sea on deck, that was a bit disappointing. Many workers came along on the first leg out of dry dock to finish up maintenance, no big deal - just something we noticed. The Panal Canel was everything we hoped for as this was our first time through the canel. The main dining room experience was great, our regular waiter and assistant waiter for dinner were excellent. The times we went to breakfast and lunch (anytime dining) was equally great. The buffet, or cafeteria as some call it was what you might expect from a cruise ship. My significant other requires gluten free food and I give Princess an A+++. The head waiter was very accommodating and even had the galley prepare special desserts for her (and other passengers) the following night for dinner. Awesome job! We didn't arrange any port excursions through Princess; therefore, no comments on those areas. Read Less

Chose Princess for the full canal transit. The ship arrived late in Ft. Lauderdale late from drydock in Freeport, with many items not completed. Boarding was hours late. Items such as carpet replacement (including our stateroom) continued during the cruise. Balcony stateroom was fine, with outstanding steward. Ship wide food not memorable, with Horizon Court lunch disappointing. Outstanding dining room staff! Princess does not execute well. Dress code that included three formal nights a total joke. We felt stupid bring formal evening clothes. Cunard (also owned by Carnival) has no problem with their dress code. Constant upsell from photo, art, and jewelry staff. Cruise director acted as head salesman. Annoying entertainment staff that spent much of their time doing”wacky games” at the pool, etc. Clientele not sophisticated....many folks started drinking with their first bucket of beers at 9AM. We would choose Princess again only for itinerary and value of no more than $100-125 per night for a balcony. Read Less

We chose this cruise to go through the Panama Canal and it ended in San Francisco which is home for us. The ship, Coral Princess, had been in dry dock for 12 days prior to our cruise and the contractors were not finished with the upgrades such as new carpet and flat screen TVs in the rooms. Nice upgrades, but there were rolls of carpet about the ship and painting still being done. Embarkation was delayed for 4 hours as the ship was late coming from dry dock so we sat in the waiting area until we could board. Our cabin had a new TV and the room was thoroughly functional, but the wi fi was not working properly and there were tech's throughout the ship working on it. Cosmetically the ship was not up to the standards we have experienced on Princess. For instance there were speaker covers sitting on the floor in the Princess theater and seats around us were broken and wobbly. Our cabin was a balcony unit and other than the minor cosmetics we were overall happy with it, it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Dining was excellent, the food was great and a nice variety to chose from. The dinners were a little long, averaged about two hours to finish our meals. We had the early seating for dining, the shows are staggered so we could still see them after dinner. We really enjoyed the Production show, well done. The guest entertainers were excellent, I recommend seeing them, comics, magicians, singers. Lots of activities daily on the ship, we never got bored. The service was excellent, the crew is friendly and works hard. We took a shore excursion at every port through Princess and they were well organized. Only drawback is on ports where you tender in took a long time waiting in tender lines both coming and going. Some ports were short on time and some of it wasted waiting in line. Only one of the excursions we took was misleading in the Princess tour listings description. In Cabo San Lucas, MX we took tour SJD-500 that is titled "4 x 4 Desert and Camel Adventure". There was NOT a 4 x 4 ride "on a guided off-road safari adventure". It is also listed there is a tortilla-making presentation which did not happen, very misleading. We did have a tequila tasting as described and the traditional Baja meal was excellent. The camel ride was fun and unique, well organized. The description says "cameras may not be used whilst atop a camel", however we were prevented from taking photos while greeting the camels too. Disappointing since the vendor had there own photographers taking photos, unfortunately their photos were expensive starting at $40 for one! Way too expensive, we returned without a photo of us on the camel. Guests we dined with took the Whale Watching by Zodiac in Cabo San Lucas and they really liked it, said it was fantastic and they saw about 30 whales and several were up close. If we are able to do this cruise again we plan on doing this excursion. This was a great cruise and we would do it again (probably will in a few of years). Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had heard great things about the Princess Cruise Line and Princess' Panama Canal Cruise. This was our first time on Princess Cruise Line and we were shocked and dismayed at the Coral Princess’ condition when we embarked at Ft. Lauderdale. Our stateroom had dirty windows leading to the balcony. The balcony had paint on the floor and chairs along with debris on the balcony floor. There was a drill bit under the vanity (this was dangerous with bare feet) and construction trash in one corner. The biggest problem was a half inch of water on the bathroom floor. We spoke to our Room Steward about the water and he immediately cleaned the water using towels and called technical services. About a half hour later, he told us the problem was fixed. We thanked him and considered the matter closed. We went to dinner and the show and returned to the stateroom around 10:00PM and found there was not only water in the bath, but that it had now spread to the carpet and was heading for our unpacked luggage. We moved the luggage and contacted Customer Relations, which took a while since they were very busy. The Night Customer Relations Manager came to the room, had someone come to vacuum the water and arranged for a plumber to repair the toilet. After the plumber visited (now about 1:00AM) the Night Customer Relations Manager said a valve was broken and there were no replacement parts on board the ship. We were stunned at this news since there were over 1000 of these toilets on the ship and no replacement parts. I asked about another cabin and he said there were no cabins available. He explained we could dry flush the toilet or use one of the public toilets on this ship and left. We were appalled at this response since we never had an experience like this on any of our previous cruises on other lines. We decided during the night to disembark at Cartagena and head back home. In the morning, we went to Customer Relations to see if they could help us arrange travel back home. This is when we met the daytime Customer Relations Manager. He asked why we wanted to leave the ship, we explained our situation, and his response was genuine surprise and he explained that what we had was not a “Princess Experience”. He asked if he could have a day to resolve our problem, this was fair and we agreed. His calm professionalism was evident during the day; he provided regular updates, provided us with a key to an empty stateroom in our area where we could use the toilet, and found another potential stateroom for us to use. By 5:00PM that evening Technical Services scavenged parts from an unused stateroom to use to fix our toilet. He also provided compensation for our inconvenience and dinner at one of the restaurants. He not only saved our cruise, he saved the relationship with Princess Cruises. Was there a bright spot on this cruise? Absolutely, the Crew was phenomenal. Despite dealing with a ship with many problems (we were not alone), we found the Captain and Crew terrific even though many of them were exhausted from dealing with a poorly serviced ship. Our Room Steward, Dinner Waiter, the Cruise Director and staff, and the Buffet staff were wonderful. We know we were not the only people with problems on this cruise from talking with other passengers. There were electrical problems throughout the ship, such as the movie under the stars screen not working until the last day at sea. When something did not work properly, it was described as being “dry docked”. We feel that Princess management should be ashamed of themselves for sending out a ship that was clearly not ready for passengers. The excursions were excellent. Princess did a good job of vetting their tour operators. The destination expert did a great job of discussing each port's history and highlights. The dinning experience was above average due to our Wait Staff. The entertainment was mostly individual entertainers backed by the ship's band. We were surprised that there were only two (2) real shows on a 15 day cruise. We had experienced a much higher percentage on other cruise lines. We found ourselves spending a lot of our evenings in the lounges due to the good entertainment there and the Cruise Director's and Staff's trivia shows. We had breakfast on our balcony one day and really enjoyed that. The window to the balcony was not cleaned until day 12 of the cruise and the balcony was never cleaned; however, once we could flush we had a great time on the remainder of the cruise. Because of the Captain and Crew we will give Princess Cruise Lines another try, but certainly not on a ship heading out of dry dock. Read Less

This itinerary has been on our bucket list for a long time. The enrichment activities provided by Chris Roberts and Dr. Angel Colon were most enjoyable and greatly increased my awareness on the topics covered. Please continue these enrichment lectures with fine speakers like these two gentlemen. The crew was awesome and provided perfect service as well as exhibiting tremendous good morale. Special thanks to bar staff, Shailesh, Komang, Edgar, Mario, Geraldine & Sheila. Thanks to IC staff as well including Papa Ver, Anoop, Lito and Yehven. We loved the numerous spaces for the passengers to sit, eat something or have a drink. Our faves were the Wheelhouse bar (biggest fave), Crooners, the IC, MUTS, Explorers bar. The Blue Jade band was the best entertainment and dance band we have heard so far on a ship. We closed the Wheelhouse bar every night due to them. The ship's band was the best we have experienced to date as well. The theatre really need two more exits. Many somewhat disabled people took a lot of time using the two available exits making me really hope that there would be no emergency that required the theatre to vacate. Read Less

An amazing cruise and would recommend a Panama cruise to all. The ship was going into dock for some refurbishment but this did not spoil our trip. It did look tired and old fashioned in some areas. It certainly did not detract from our enjoyment. The entertainment in the theatre was a little disappointing overall but there were plenty of alternatives if you wanted. Driinks packages were expensive as with many of companies and would look for offers next time. The trips we took with the ship overall were good and very well organised. Staff were all exceptionally helpful and friendly. Restaurant staff in particular we r out of their way to ensure we had a positive experience every day. Would definitely cruise with Princess again and try one of the newer and/ or larger ships in the fleet. Will look for offers and also consider sailing from Southampton uk Read Less
