We chose the cruise for the itinerary and date. Thought the Constellation was in very good shape and were happy with the service and amenities. Embarkation was a 'disaster' and, hopefully, Celebrity will work that out. It had to do with requirements in Abu Dhabi and misunderstandings about the Sri Lanka Visa. All in all we enjoyed the cruise, the ports and the experience. This was our first 'long' cruise (two weeks) and we wondered how it would work out. We would do a long one again but think 10-12 days would be optimum for us. Since we were in Aqua Class we were able to eat in Blu and that was a nice change of pace. We also dined in Qsine one night and enjoyed it. We would suggest that Celebrity give water out free to everyone. We were in very hot locales and needed lots of water. Charge more if they have to but give water bottles whenever needed 'free'. Read Less

We started from Abu Dhabi which we had 2 days to explore before departure. This turned out to be a wise move, we arrived with our luggage still in Amsterdam. It took >30 hours for the luggage to arrive. We had booked this cruise because of the interesting itinerary. We had experience from a previous Celebrity cruise (the sister ship Millennium) some 7 years ago. Constallation is fairly old (2002?) and it was apparent that times take its toll. She was tired in places and polishing the surface, a coat of paint and some acrylic mass were clearly not sufficient (for cabin review, see below). For a company that focus on an exceptional experience we expected more. There have been some changes in the ship construction over time which had the effect that the announced jogging track was a misnomer. There was no loop to exercise on on lower decks. We traveled Aqua Class. The cabin was on deck 9 and the cabin/balcony was affected by a large overhang of the pool deck. This was clearly a negative factor, the cabin being somewhat dark and with no sunshine on the balcony except during sunrise (early!) and sunset. It also turned out that the size of the cabin was not different from lower class cabins! As Aqua Class passenger we could use the Blu restaurant. Compared to other who had booked Concierge Class we felt that we got an inferior and overpriced offer. There was a general lack of sunbeds and many weared down beds (was not removed!). It was annoying that many guests reserved beds in the early morning but not turning up. This practice was not allowed, but the pool staff never took any action. We had a Classic wine package. This was overpriced compared to the limited selection of wines we were offered. On a similar note, the unlimited internet package was very expensive although the connection generally was unstable and slow. The food was acceptable but not more. The Blue restaurant gave good value for money whereas the Oceanview cafe was not great. Lot of food but no finesse and the food was often overcooked. A clear step down from our Millennium experience. The entertainment in the theater was, with one or two exception, very good. In fact the only element of the cruise that justified the price. The "house bands" and entertainment in bar etc was really bad. Of many thousands bands and entertainers in the world .....? Why choose two dance bands that were so similar and largely played boring (and loud!!!) music for a younger generation? The 2 classic violinists were uninspired and appeared like amateurs. We felt that the entertainment was not a priority. We also noticed that the senior officers were rarely to be seen, we hardly saw any of them. We called on 9 ports and normally docked in industrial areas with a fairly long shuttle bus ride out of the port area. For those of us that find the ship sightseeing tours overpriced and not attractive, this was a negative experience making our own arrangements difficult. On the positive side, our cabin attendant was nice and service minded and the Blue restaurant waiters were very professional and nice. In summary, we felt that this cruise did not offer value for money. The cruise experience was not more than average, and we were left with the impression that "milking" the passengers was a priority. Having enjoyed a superb cruise on Celebrity Eclipse 4 years ago, we were expecting a similar experience on Celebrity Constellation. Unfortunately, this wasn't to be. Constellation is tired in a lot of places and although the staff work extremely hard, the shortcomings are evident. Our cabin - Whilst beautifully clean, courtesy of Arvin, we wish we hadn't paid the extra for an upgrade to Aquaclass. For us personally, it wasn't worth the extra money. The daily canapes were rather unappealing to say the least! The bed was only a king size bed and not a Superking/Queen as all other cruises we have been on. The plug hole of the basin in the shower room had turned green where the chrome had worn away over the years, and we also experienced a towel with a huge hole in it which should have been spotted by someone and not returned to any cabin, together with a leaking shower door which meant we stepped out onto a wet mat every time. We were on deck 9, directly beneath the pool area which meant a large overhang of decking (no sun on the balcony) and loud noise if entertainment was on the pool deck, too. We also found we could not check our on board account due to "Unexpected error". Dining - We ate in Blu on most occasions, the staff are really very good, as was the food, but it could have been presented much warmer than it was. Anything we didn't want, they were more than happy to change or adjust the dish accordingly. Breakfast was very tasty when we managed to eat there; it's a very short window of opportunity (just 7.00-08.30) which for us is too early when on holiday! The buffet wasn't too bad, in common with most cruise lines, the choice was reasonable and the quality was good - some days better than others - could be warmer food, but generally acceptable. Coffee shop - Was excellent in choice of coffees, teas and complimentary cakes. Service was slow at times or even non-existent! Pool - Grill bar was ok, not as good as Eclipse was when we were on it. The loungers looked rather tired but the towels laid out each day was a nice touch. Bars - We rated the Sun Deck quite highly. Great staff, great atmosphere, just not enough room to hold everyone who wanted some outside space to relax. Pool bar was ok. Mast Bar lacked atmosphere - everything served in plastic glasses which impacted on the taste of the drink. Reflections (Sky Lounge) was a great area, just no atmosphere whatsoever! Staff generally sat with us for a chat, so we learned a lot from them. Maybe the space filled up long after we left, but we felt that the space was too big a venue. Atrium - Quite dull and dated. VFM? - No, not really. After paying gratuities, you're expected to pay an 18% service charge on EVERY purchase AND to personally tip staff at the end of your holiday. We are aware that at the time of writing, the GBP/USD exchange rate isn't good, but still. Water was quite expensive at $5.50 per litre (plus 18% of course), Don't get us started on laundry charges... The whole holiday just didn't fulfill our (not too unreasonable) expectations Read Less

Just returned from Abu Dhabi to Singapore via India. Where do I begin. Firstly with the good. Food in the main dining was good and varied and our waiters were good. The guest speakers -two were excellent and the third should have been left in Abu Dhabi. Ednalyn who was our concierge was brilliant such a lovely cheery soul who could not do enough for you. Now the not so good:- 1. Ship very titled ans shabby despite being in dry dock last year. 2. Service in the bars so slow that you would have been quicker serving yourself. 3.the air conditioning not working properly and leaving everyone with colds coughs etc. 4. Most of crew although visible not in the least friendly-mind you when you see the Captain standing on the gangway scowling at the passengers and not acknowledging them when being spoken to-what else do you expect. Will I sail on this ship, again not if I can help it. Will I sail with Celebrity again Yes Read Less

It was our first cruise with Celebrity as usually we travel on P.O. as we like to sail from Southampton We didn’t,actually choose this cruise it came as a Indian package which we thought would be a good way of getting a taste of India Sorting the visas caused me an awful lot of lost sleep especially as it was just before Christmas and New Year and we didn’t speak to one person who didn’t have a VISA story usually an expensive one We enjoyed our days on board But didn’t enjoy the nights, our first cabin 7030 was above the theatre boom boom boom until 11 30 most nights so no chance of an early night So we moved to 2105 the receptionist assured us there would be no noise UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WOULD WE MOVE YOU FROM ONE NOISY ROOM TO ANOTHER But someone had been in the room before us re the restaurant reservations we received So the like car wash noise began only lasting about a minute or two off and on most of our remaining nights On one night it didn’t stop so we phoned reception and on the second call and visit we were moved at 3am to another room just to sleep, and believe it or not no one else had ever heard this noise I still have a list all the times it happened I m wondering if it had been fixed yet Really missed fresh flowers diabetic marmalade a laundry room and a card room to include whist drive We missed the tea and coffee in our rooms to start with but another passenger put us right on that , Sunbeds the occupying of was very entertaining we were lucky enough to have the use of one most days but then we were about early re the noise that no one else heard We didn’t get on to well with the food layout in the main self service restaurant either I did feel that we made far to many trips to reception sorting our room they were very good most of the time To be honest The sleepless nights did take the shine of the cruise but we found all the staff very helpful and extreamly friendly and enjoyed speaking to them we also enjoyed the. 12 hour supply of Ice cream Read Less

Ok, we had a lovely Cruise, the itinery was great and that is what sold us the cruise, the ship was comfortable, albeit a little tired in places, There were issues that Celebrity really need to address but on balance it may appear to some that these are petty to others. However you have to remember that Celebrity are selling a dream, and as a customer I should not have to compromise. We arrived early in Abu Dhabi, 7am but couldn’t check in until 9 and board until 11 and didn’t get cabin until 12, so really lost the morning. No one said we could leave the cruise termininal at check in but in reality there was nothing to stop us once checked in, so I should have asked. My advice is check in and then do the big red shuttle bus to the trade centre or take taxi and start exploring as soon as you can. Don’t waste time waiting to get your cabin as it will still be there when you get back and your luggage will have arrived too. We didn’t, ended up not going out until 13:00 so missed doing as much there as we could have there. My biggest issue that makes me angry with Celebrity is the Indian Visa debacle as others have mentioned, so will not go into details here, but Celebrity are shirking there responsibilities for treating customers fairly when they insist in their correspondence that to board you must have a Multi Entry Visa, yet are able to “arrange” on board visa’s for people they allowed to board without a visa and at a cost that was significantly less than most of those passengers who followed their guidance paid to the Indian Consulate or a Visa Application Service. The most frustrating issue relates to the lack of sun Beds, and the behaviour that this creates to Bed block. Something that was prevalent and have not seen on other cruises, so beware. The pool butlers seemed unable to manage the situation when beds were reserved but unoccupied for hours.....and there was no obvious system in place or passenger communication on a fair usage policy, something that they could have published in the daily guide. The terrace was lovely with its rattan furniture and big screen, but again if you wanted one of these beds you had to be up early, and if you went specifically to only watch the film then I am afraid the floor was for you. This really isn’t acceptable for a Cruise line of Celebrities status. The state room was really nice, not new but clean and comfortable. A nice place to take a lazy breakfast on the balcony on your first day at sea. The attendant worked hard to look after us and was responsive to our needs. We really enjoyed the Celebrity cabaret team shows in a first class theatre, some of the other shows were a little hit and miss but still watchable. The Martini Bar was a great environment and very popular so always commanded big queues at the bar, patience is a virtue, the guys work hard, but another pair of hands would have really helped. The San Marco was a nice environment but the whole Select dining queuing spoilt some of the enjoyment and seemed chaotic, although we learnt to book a table for the following night on our way out so helped us cope with the apparent Chaos. The staff work hard, but sometimes there just doesn’t seem to be enough of them and on quite a few occasions I had to ask for my Wine to be topped up, again when you are selling an experience then attentiveness is what makes the difference, that is the finesse that it lacked. Food was generally good with a selection and some staples if you didn’t fancy the daily special, but having cruised previously with Princess although the food was enjoyable I would say it wasn’t quite as good. The Ocean View was great for breakfast and throughout the day had great selection of good quality mealsand snacks - really enjoyed the Pizza bar and the Egg station for breakfast. We chose to eat the Indian special dinner served there when in Mumbai, it was really very nice. The Tuscan Grill was nice, and more personal, it is probably worth the premium just for the change of scenery and a very enjoyable steak with an excellent and attentive sommelier. The silent disco was good fun and really enjoyable, so have ago. We had the classic alcohol drink package, which was great unless you wanted specifically to enjoy primary branded drinks and spirits, but if you fancied a special tipple you only had to bay the uplift on over your package allowance. This package also enabled us to enjoy the coffee and tea selection in Cafe Baguio for 11’s with some wonderful pastries. In terms ports of call, Mumbai, Dubai, and Muscat were my favourites taking in the sunset at Sky at Level 143 of the Burj Kallifa a must. The Grande Mosque in Abu Dhabi is a must too. So overall we had a lovely time, but there are some niggles that Celebrity need to improve. This was my first time on Celebrity so expectations from talking to others were high. The test is would I do it again? Assuming Celebrity sort out the Visa situation then Yes, but having been once and learnt how it worked I would certainly be more demanding of the pool butlers and in the San Marco. It would be nice to go back and see that Celebrity have recognised the issues and feed back from myself and others and then to come back and write perfect review. Read Less

Just returned from the Arabian Sea Adventure on Celebrity Constellation. Have to say we were a bit worried by all the reviews after we had booked and many said the ship was tired and well worn. Well, I do not know which part they were looking at, but we found it to be wonderful everywhere. The beautiful coordinated furniture, comfy chairs and multiple lounge areas were superb. (so often there is no where to sit on a cruise ship and coffee shops etc are so full you end up back in your cabin!) We would recommend Celebrity to anyone who wants a truly wonderful ship; fantastic staff; superb food and great staterooms to book with Celebrity. We have not been on other ships in the Celebrity fleet, but will certainly have Celebrity on the top of our future cruise company list before booking elsewhere. (NB: We are not first timers - we have cruised with many other companies and Celebrity certainly comes top with us). The food was exceptional in every area. The Buffet food was great with variety and really good quality food. This was unfortunately marred by seeing other guests who ate wearing just a vest - dreadful; the other restaurants were stunning and it was lovely to have the 'chique' nights too. As a Sky Suite passenger, we were fortunate enough to eat in Lumiere most of the time, which was exceptional in every detail. Plus having Michaels lounge as a little hideaway was truly brilliant. Nadia and her team really made every day a wonderful experience. Read Less

We had never cruised before and were sceptical, however the whole experience exceeded our expectations. Having flown to Dubai we were then subjected to a two hour road trip to Abu Dhabi, I am sure there are fiscal reasons for this but not for the travellers. In my opinion the cruise should have sailed from Dubai or we should have been flown into Abu Dhabi as we were very tired after a night flight nd unnecessary road journey. Once we joined the ship things got better, Celebrity Constellation is a very nice boat, showing a few signs of its age but otherwise very pleasant. Our cabin was on deck seven and uniquely forward facing, it was well appointed and comfortable. However it did not have any form of opening window or door as do the balcony staterooms and did need more fresh air. The cabin was very well tended by very pleasant staff, clean and comfortable. A small observation is the lack of content offered on the tv for those quiet moments when you just want to chill out in the comfort of your own space. My other issue is WiFi it is an expected service in all quality hotels and the cruise ship should not be an exception, it was available on board but for $29 an hour and they thought that was reasonable, well I don’t. The dining was amazing, we chose to dine in the SAN Marco restaurant and every night was a five star dining event, the staff were truly wonderful and made our whole experience, the variety and quality of the food was fantastic. We have dined in some very good restaurants and this equalled all of them. The entertainment on board was very professional, I think I expected a bit of hi di hi, but not so all of the shows were West End standard and a joy to watch. The casual entertainment in the bars and lounges was also to a very high standard and very enjoyable. Time for a criticism the sun deck and pool areas were well equipped but the age old problem of selfish people getting up early and putting towels etc on beds to reserve for later meant that there were many occasions when you could not get a sun bed. We witnessed sun beds lying empty with towels etc on them for over three hours on many occasions and people walking the decks to find somewhere to sit. This could and should have been avoided. Many good class hotels manage this efficiently why not the cruise ship? One final issue tipping, I have no problem with rewarding good service but after you have received it not before, to just take it on a daily basis despite all else and the things I have mentioned in this review to me is undesirable. Believe me we tipped the restaurant staff in addition because they enhanced our experience but I do not agree with blanket gratuities as we didn’t get the same level of service from everyone. In conclusion this was our first cruise and it won’t be our last. It was a truly wonderful experience that could just have been tweaked to perfection with a little more thought. Read Less

This was our first cruise with Celebrity, on expectations of being a 5 star experience it lacked a little finesse . The flight organisation was very poor as no tickets or information where available prior to booking in at the airport. On landing at our UAE airport we where kept waiting outside in the heat for one hour as the organisation was not good. Once at the port customs where slow but eventually got on board. The food and entertainment where good but the cost of the drinks and trips out seemed very expensive. Disappointed that we only had the main restaurant or snack bars to eat at as the specialised restaurants all carry a large surcharge. Disappointed there was no formal night as majority of the passengers dressed casual. As we already knew the ports of call prior to booking, we found them not very exciting and would have preferred more time in Dubai rather than two days in Mumbai. Over all would give Celebrity another go but on a newer boat. Read Less

Celebrity Constellation is a delightful ship. Not too huge but big enough to provide many different activities. From England Dubai is the civilised length of flight and doesn’t lead to jet lag. The main gripes were the same as on most ships. Ridiculously high wi fi charges and shortage of sunbeds on sea days......this caused a minor shouting match as people were reserving them and with 2000 on board for three consecutive sea days that was unacceptable. The only other moan was that smokers were seemingly rewarded by being given sofas, tables, chairs etc. on the pool deck which meant smoke wafted down and made it unbearable to sit that side. The food in all the buffets was excellent but I found the main restaurant menu a little dull. Al Bacio, coffee shop was superb. Excellent coffee, cakes and charming staff. Big contrasts between the destinations but that made it even more interesting. Going from pristine Muscat to rather scruffy Goa was fun. I would recommend this cruise to anyone who enjoys experiencing different cultures. More books in the library would be a plus for those sea days. Read Less
