Boarding Process: Since both Eurodam and Zuiderdam were in port together, Zuiderdam was not docked in her usual spot. We had to take a free shuttle from parking deck to ship. Line was much longer than other two HAL cruises we've done, we arrived around 12:30 PM, and process a bit slower than I was used to. But we were onboard by 1:15 PM and started our 10 Day Partial Panama Canal Cruise!

Review of Zuiderdam Panama Canal Cruise
This was a 10 day cruise aboard the Zuiderdam.
Day 0 found us at Fort Lauderdale at the Hampton Inn North. Great hotel and you can leave your car, get shuttled to and from the port free of charge. Considering the charge at the port.. it was less money to stay at the hotel. Spent the day at the beach and ate at Bubba Gumps. Had a downpour of rain in the ...
We booked this cruise on the Rotterdam back in May 2009. This was the last of of the four Vista class ships that we have sailed on, and it was clearly a cut below the other three. Perhaps we were spoiled by the Rotterdam. The seahorse in the Atrium was a bit of a joke because when the rotation put the sides towards you, it was like there was nothing there. For what it's worth, we booked a Mexican ...
December 3,2009 on the Zuiderdam. Boarding was a breeze. Holland America knows how to do everything with ease, grace & elegance. We were headed for the Southern Caribbean and the Panama Canal. Ten days in Paradise. As the stacks began to fill with steam you could feel the excitement build. All on deck to watch the sail away. Perfect weather smiled upon us for the entire 10 day cruise. First stop ...
Arrived in FLL the day before and stayed at the Comfort Suites. Had read some poor reviews of this hotel (after we booked) but we found it to be clean, friendly, and convenient. Shuttle service was good, just be sure to signup the night at the time you want. Boarding had a line when we arrived at 11:30, but we were having lunch in the Lido at 12:15. Muster is easier now that you don't have to take ...
I have always wanted to cruise at Christmas and my hubby and I decided to do it for our 30th year of marriage. Our grown children remained at home with their families. It was a wonderful one-time adventure for us. Cruising is definitely the most relaxing way to spend 10 days. I have never slept better or longer and I loved not having to cook or clean!
Embarkation was slow as there had been a ...
Overall it was a good cruise. Below are both Pros and Cons to this experience. This is our 9th cruise; the first one on Holland America
Others: Royal Caribbean; Princess; Celebrity and Costa.
Pros Excellent food Excellent Entertainment Wide variety of shore excursions Appropriately priced excursions Verandah on deck 7: tub -- giving a generous shower area Hair dryer provided in the stateroom ...
From many perspectives, we found the partial transit of the canal to be our most interesting time in the Caribbean. The Canal is historically significant and should be on all bucket lists; Aruba and Curacao are very pleasant and prosperous islands and the jungles of Costa Rica are stunningly different from any North American sights.
I am a 3-star Mariner from up North and sailed with my husband ...
There is not much to say. Overall we had a great vacation. But the ship is not more than a 3 stars worth.
Dining: We had dining in the upstairs restaurant. Waiters were smiling, but had no idea how to serve properly and did not speak English at all (like most of the crew) Food was tasteless and presentation bad. Wines not too bad. The Caesar Salad was really something: 5 salad leaves and 3 old ...
First, let me say my wife and I enjoy cruising on Holland America. The service is usually excellent and the food is good. The ships are great and most of the staff are also.
Our recent Panama Canal cruise out of and returning to Ft. Lauderdale fits that description. But a couple of suggestions. If you are paying for a deluxe verandah suite, why can't you get a good table for 2 without going ...
