We absolutely hated this cruise!! This was our fourth cruise with Holland America and our last! The good parts of the cruise were our room stewards were quite nice and did a good job; our servers in the dinning room were also quite nice and did a good job as well, however, as for the rest of the ships company we cannot say the same. We upgraded from a verandah stateroom to a signature suite. ...
This was our first cruise on a Holland America ship and we found it to be the nicest we have yet experienced. We have sailed on NCL and Celebrity in the past. We combined two separate cruises to get a 29 day total. The first was a 17 day transatlantic repositioning from Ft. Lauderdale to Copenhagen and the second was a 12 day Baltic Sea.
We found the itinerary to be wonderful, with stops in ...
We chose this cruise for the itinerary. The TA crossing followed by the Baltic ports and then the Fjords and Highlands. 41 days and very port intensive. Embarkation/Debarkation went extremely smooth. The cabin attendants were excellent, We had the unlimited laundry service and it was excellent. Lido service was average. Seemed to me to be understaffed and overworked. Main Dining room ...
This was our first cruise. We chose HAL because without exception, everyone we know who has cruised has raved about it. So we booked a back-to-back: transatlantic from Ft. Laud to the Azores and up the coast of Europe to Copenhagen for 17 days, and a follow-up Baltic 12-day circle back to Copenhagen.
The Good:
Our cabin, a verandah on the Verandah Deck, was comfortable if small. But we ...
We chose this cruise for the itinerary. We've sailed on the Zuiderdam previously, in 2009, and enjoyed ourselves. The ship was showing her age on this cruise, I must say. The staff we dealt with were very good, the food was good, and most of the port stops were enjoyable, even with the cooler temperatures. We were offered an upgrade about 3 weeks prior to sailing and took the upgrade to a Neptune ...
This is our 3rd Transatlantic cruise in a row. Each cruise had completely different itineraries and we both love the sea days and on crossings there are plenty of sea days to relax as you see fit. My wife and I enjoy the guest speakers that usually have lectures AM and PM on the sea days. These lectures are very popular and they do quite well with filling up the showroom.
We choose the less ...
We have sailed a decent amount I think but have not been to much of the Baltic Sea areas and as always Holland America had an interesting Itinerary and decent prices. The entire ship was COLD for the whole time! Never experienced that before. Food for the most part we think has always been exceptional (with the occasional mishap like any other restaurant). We were pleased with the menus in but ...
Chose the transatlantic to relax and recharge- unlike many of the people on this cruise I am not retired and work very hard each year to go on a long cruise. We chose the Zuiderdam because we are three star mariners and have sailed it twice before. We picked this particular itinerary because of the stop in Cherbourg and the ability to visit the D-Day beaches and memorials. We flew in the day ...
For our background we are in the late 50s/early 60s age category and this is our third HAL cruise with four cruises on another line. We like the peaceful nature of 10 day sailings, the teak wood promenade, and the superior service.
Embarkation was pleasant. It was organized and a smooth transition. We were onboard and lunching in the Lido by noon and rooms were ready shortly thereafter. The ...
We chose HAL as we has never cruised with them before. We thought we would try a different cruise line as we have only ever cruised with Princess. A big mistake! What a disappointment! The zuiderdam is in the worst condition that we have ever experienced.
Our first cabin 6072 had wooden wedges inbetween the wall and the ceiling to try to stop the creaking in the ceiling. To no avail....hence ...
