This was my second cruise on Royal carribean with my family. From the first day we arrived, I felt like they have lost their royal treatment. The food was disgusting. the bread was hard, the smell of the sapphire restaurant was horrible, and the cook couldn't prepare soft scrambled eggs. The pool area was dirty all the time, the room a/c was not cooling well at all. And some of the staff workers were rude, they badly in need of a class in customer service. But on the other hand, they were very informational on what's going on. I'm willing to give it another try. I think they just over booked this cruise and was not able to accommodate everyone to give you that outstanding service that they are known for. Read Less

Bad Service, Terrible Accommodations, and Poor Quality Food. 3rd time cruising with RC. 30 years old traveling with Fiance. Stayed in a balcony suite. Beverage Package not worth it, doesn't include everything like it says. Rude bartenders that take FOREVER to serve a drink. And don't forget to include the tax and automatic gratuity which makes it about $30 more than advertised per day. Stains in bed sheets every night (yellow and purple - attendant said it was the detergent but that's a bit iffy). Water only had scalding hot temp. Mini Fridge didn't work. Room service takes 2+ hours to receive food. No towel animals anymore. No healthy food options. I had to specifically ask for vegetables at dinner and even then they came fully saturated in butter. Halfway through the cruise, I didn't even want tacos in Mexico because my body was just craving greens. Flo-Rider was best part of cruise and even that had minimal operation times and every little kid wanted to be on it so the line was about an hour for a one-two minute ride. We hated it. We felt like we were a burden to the staff. I guess we just aren't cruisers. It was fun when we were 14 but now that we are 30, we realize how terrible cruises actually are. We got off the boat in Belize and had a much better time as soon as we got away from port. Overall, we wasted about 5 grand on a balcony suite that we ended up only using for 4 days. I'll never go on a RC Cruise again. Ever. Read Less

My wife and I along with our 2 daughters ages 4 and 1 sailed the Navigator on 5/17. We've been on 4 Carnival cruises but wanted to try RC for the childcare due to our 1 ye old. Ship is outdated, old, pink hallways. Staterooms and balcony are ok on size. Bathrooms only have hot and NO cold water until debarkation day. Windjammer buffet tastes of all hospital food. Very rude lady that works left hand side when you walk in told my 1 year old she "beat her hand" if she spilled sugar from the caddy. I thought it was a funny joke until she repeated it 3-4 times and I told her to get lost. MC on the pool deck got very annoying throughout most of the day. Room service never picks up the phone and I was on hold for 35 minutes one day before I got them to pick up. We were invited to the captains dinner table for dinner on Friday night. Took 45 minutes to get out drinks. We had already been served bread and appetizers by this point. Kids were done with dinner before they received drinks. Last night of cruise AC stopped working. bartenders on pool deck were usually rude most of the time. The only day the juices in the windjammer weren't halfway watered down was debarkation morning. Also, in the same parts of the ship smell horrible of sewer waste. You'd get a whiff here or there and avoid those parts of the ship. Childcare was great in babies and aquanaughts. Girls in the R bar know how to make great drinks. We made the best of it but NEVER again. Especially for how much more we paid. We will head back to Carnival any day. RC Navigator disappoints. Having traveled more than 15 times on many different cruise lines. we took our first cruise on a Royal Caribbean ship. The company makes claims they are the #1 cruise line in the business. Don't believe it. They may be #1 in passenger volume but NOT in cruise quality. Their promo offers for attractive On Board Cash Credits becomes a "bait & switch" tactic. Once on board you discover how expensive EVERYTHING is on the ship. The OBC dollars are quickly consumed. If you are booking a cruise because of the educational programs offerred on board such as Photo Techiniques, Computer training, art & painting classes, etc BEWARE. They may be listed in their brochures but once out to sea you will not find them. If you are interested in Rock Wall climbing, or loud native music you will find out...right along the other 4000 passengers on board. On a positive note, the food quality and selection are excellent. And the stateroom staff are outstanding despite the fact that the cruise line company does not pay them a salary. All the money the staff gets is derived from the mandatory gratuities imposed on the passengers. You will get a clean ship with clean staterooms but don't try to communicate on WiFi or use your cell phone. The service is expensive, slow, and poorly designed. The check in and check out processes are sheer madness. Allow many hours ! Read Less

We were very excited to join the royal loyal following of RCI only to be met with disappointment after disappointment on this, our first (and possibly last) cruise with RCI. This was not only the Christmas cruise but it was our honeymoon as well. A few highlights: 1) Our a/c was not working properly and our room never fully cooled. They tried to fix it - once - but it did little to alleviate the problem. Actually, the whole ship was overheated - we were sweating at dinner, walking in the halls and for SURE in the un-airconditioned elevators. 2) Service was sub-par. Our server was exceptionally awful and rude and eventually just 'left the ship' when we docked in Jamaica (his home country). Room service attendant sighed at me and argued with me (claiming they had NO salads with chicken on them, which was untrue and she later realized), etc. 3) Food was disgusting. Greasy, bland, cold....even the 'grilled' chicken left a grease film on our plates. They also close all dining options at 9 unless they're paid restaurants, and the room service menu is very limited. 4) Limited hours - of everything. Instead of a carefree vacation we felt strapped to timetables the whole time. 5) The TV booking system didn't work correctly which caused us to miss our excursion. 6) Little decoration for Christmas on this, the Christmas Cruise. The best part? Disembarking was quick with the self-serve option. All you have to do is schlepp your own stuff and have a US Passport and you're homefree! Read Less

The positives, our room steward was excellent and was the staff in the dining room, including the head waiter. I anticipated after a call to Royal Caribbean that I would go hungry since I am vegan but they did an excellent job of finding me something to eat. The lows start with the lines to embark the ship. If you have no status with the ship (this was only my 3rd Royal Caribbean Cruise) then you are nothing. The lines and crowds are everywhere. We did find a great spot that was quiet (if you want to enjoy a book or just want some peace and quiet not in your room) at the very back on the 14th floor. It is not a friendly ship, half the staff don't even say hello. I will not return. Read Less

Where do I begin? This cruise was so terrible we may never go on RCCL again despite the fact we are I have high up on the tier for past cruisers. Complaints were brought to attention of the assistant manager which were answered with empty apologies. I spent 1.5 hours on the phone with customer service after returning. I was told we would have a resolution within 72 hours but now I am told it will be next week. Luckily we met some really good people which made the cruise tolerable because we were all upset with everything from the service to the food to the entertainment and the trash left around the pools. We had two other people with us who never cruised. They were extremely disappointed and do not plan to go on another cruise again. Its sad that this experience was so bad for them because we love cruising. Our cabin steward was awesome but that is as far as it goes. The ship was falling apart. A stool in the pol area was broken and when my husband sat on it he almost fell off. The carpet was dirty and looked very old. One of our friends had a toilet explode in his stateroom as well as the neighbors. He called for service and they told him they could not do anything about all the feces on the wall, ceiling and mirror because it might disturb other guests since it was midnight. They told him to use the bathroom upstairs in the public areas!!!! Really..... He had to sleep with the stench all night. After going to guest services about a few of the issues, we were given chocolate covered strawberries. My daughter started eating them and noticed one was moldy. She is highly allergic to mold and could have had a serious, very serious relations had she eaten it. The food was terrible in the dining area as well as being cold. The only staff who ever called us by our name was our cabin steward. The bars constantly ran out of beer, mostly coors light and bud light. A bartender at the pool was so rude, most people would go climb the stairs to the Sky bar to avoid his rude behavior. The public restrooms smelled like urine. One near he pool for the men could be smelled outside. Even after all this was discussed with guest relations, nothing was done.   Read Less

I have been on many cruises, some were a great experience, some were ok, and ONE was just plain awful. Unfortunately this is the one cruise that was awful. It was so bad in fact, that it has made me realize that I will never cruise with Royal Caribbean ever again. That is just sad! Let me begin by telling you that the main reason I went on this cruise, was to reward myself with a little bit of alone time. I went solo on this cruise, so seeing that Royal Caribbean does not have studio rooms like NCL does, I had to pay a solo cruiser surcharge (basically a little more than DOUBLE the price of a double occupancy rate.) I knew that going into the cruise, so that I had no problem with that, as long as I get my moneys worth, which I did not. I had read that this ship just received a major overhaul this year, so I expected a refurbished ship. Aside from the fact that my interior stateroom had the new "virtual balcony" in it, I saw NO other signs of a refurbished ship, aside from the new restaurant Sabor (read on to learn more about Sabor.) The ship is a dump! Everyday there was another broken stool up on deck. The deck planters looked like they have not been repainted in years. Old worn out lounge chairs with broken straps on them. Even the carpeting and walls had a dirty and dingy feel to them. My stateroom toilet never flushed properly. I had the handhold in the shower literally fall off the wall due to rust. My sink faucet was rusty and nasty, and my sink had been cracked and repaired quite poorly. I know that over the years, the prices of cruises has gone down considerably, and the one section that has taken a serious hit with the prices going down in the food. The main dining room (Sapphire) is horrible. The food was just plain awful. It wasn't just the taste, but the quality of the food. Escargot that came out cold not once, but twice. Filet Minon that was actually tough to cut, with a right out of the box gravy on top of it. It was just nasty. We tried the main dining room three nights out of seven, and each night the food was terrible. The buffet (normally pretty good on RCI) was a notch better than the main dining room, but not much better. Hamburger buns that were hard a brick, hamburgers that were way overdone. It seems that RCI is now catering strictly the Asian and Indian market because the "International Flavor" section of the buffet ONLY had Indian and Asian food on it. The quality of food and variety was OK. The main highlight of my dining experience is the new Sabor restaurant the just put in. It is FANTASTIC! It is worth double the price that they charge for it. We loved it so much that we actually at there 2 night, back to back with a group that got friendly on the cruise. The ports on this cruise are NOT good, nor are they safe. There is NOTHING to do in Roatan at all. The city port itself is NOT safe and very little to do. If you enjoy going into a port where the police staff is packing serious firepower (AK-47's) this port is for you. Belize City is just as bad, with very little to do, and the port itself is a big tourist trap. I met a marine and his wife online, and went into belize city with them. People were constantly telling us not to go any further. Cozumel, well there is never anything wrong with Cozumel! The worst part of this cruise was the customer service, or should I say lack of customer service. When something would go wrong it always got brushed under the carpet. Even after speaking to the guest relations manager, nothing got done. He is totally worthless. Overall this is the worst cruise I have ever been on, and I am still waiting to hear back from Royal Caribbean customer service. I doubt I ever will. Read Less

There are better cruise ships out there than this one. Choose differently.Had a loud and annoying banging / tapping noise- metal to metal from the moment we entered our room. The issue was addressed by us and several other passengers on this floor as well as the floor below. Complained all throughout the cruise(mainly during the hours of midnight on) and lost lots of sleep. I think that they decided that it was a steam pipe bracket ? and finally said that they would turn it off 6 days into the cruise. Don't get why they just didn't fix it especailly on the days that we were in port. Their compensation was to give a small discount for a future cruise. Right - I would want to jump right on that. No thanks. I will spend my money elsewhere. Windjammer food - no variety and closes at 9:00pm. Breakfast - don't order a cook to order egg. Chicken will hatch before it gets to you. Rest of the food - cold and the same ole - same ole. This leave one small venue open at night that is on the promenade deck and has one staff member trying to serve the same ole small sandwiches /pizza every day. When the shows get out at night and everyone is lined up at this one place- good luck getting anything. Not worth waiting for. Not really much activities to do on the ships - Never have figured out the art auctions events on ships but go view the collection just to kill time but this collection of art was the absolute worst ever.   Read Less

My sister and I went on the cruise to Honduras, Belize and Cozumel. We booked a balcony room 9294. The room was absolutely wonderful, view was perfect, had a coffee pot and warmer in the room. We really enjoyed the best Stateroom Attendant, Rodney McCrae, . The ship is absolutely beautiful and the shows were very good. We had no problem getting seats at the shows. You do have to get your ice skating tickets in advance. We had lots of questions and there was always someone there to answer for you. We ate at the Windjammer mostly, and the first few times was great food. The last few times, the quality seem to have dropped some. We really loved the hamburgers and entertainment at Johnny Rockets. I think this was our favorite. We did not enjoy the shopping at Cozumel at all. Too much pressure from people on street to get you to buy. This is at the forum. Also, please listen carefully to whom the ship will back on your purchases. My sister bought a ring in Cozumel which we thought was a diamond and getting home, it was costume jewelry. The name was Jewelry International in the Forum at Cozumel. BEWARE. My sister and I are praying for these people that God will intervene in their lives because we know from their actions they have no relationship with God. All in all, it was a good cruise. I do believe the younger generation: ( from 50 down) get the most enjoyment from this cruise. Read Less

I have been on about 9 cruises in the last 17 years. We had never been with Royal Caribbean before and we were looking forward to a new cruise line for us. Here is what some else posted….I back this time’s 10…. “I want everyone to know before you book your trip that we have NEVER been told NO so many times aboard ship! It was such a different experience from all of our other trips that we won't likely cruise anymore.” SHOWS: We only saw 2 of them…but out of 10 cruises (so about 20 shows) these were the worst 2 shows I have ever seen. DRINKS CARDS: Not only are there the soda drink cards, you have about 3-5 other options for other packages including liquor. We only did 1 soda one for our son. All the others seemed too restricted and we were not sure if they would be worth it. The soda card was only for select fountain drinks, mostly from the soda gun (so extra sugary tasty – not the good stuff out of a can). At one bar I herd one lady go off on this and demand her money back the 1st day. BARS & GENRAL SERVICE: I was flabbergasted at how rarely we were asked for drinks (or anything). On other cruise lines, the waiters go out of there way for you …the customer. Never having been on RCL before, I at first thought maybe this is just how RCCL is. After reading more reviews on this boat, it seems in the past RCL had good service….but something has greatly changed. I never felt like we were treated like a “customer”. When you would go to try to order a drink at a bar, it would take 10-15 minutes with no line (or maybe just 1-2 people ahead of you). FOOD: The free food (I say free, the food you paid $3,000+ for a trip) was below average. I’m not sure how others could rave about this level of service (maybe they need to try other cruise lines). There were 6 or more other restaurants or shops that you could pay for – we did none of these (I just get tired of being nickel and dimed) ROOM: It was clean and nice looking (the ship has just been redone in Jan 2014). It did seem hotter than any other I could ever remember (I’m now seeing this in others reviews) . OTHER: Our room attendant was the nicest RCCL person on the ship. (Wilbert - from Columbia) BOTTOMLINE: I never felt like we were treated like a “customer”. In the past, a cruise would have been one of my TOP vacation options…now RCCL has left me with doubts.   Read Less

We were set to cruise on Royal Caribbean out of Galveston on March 23rd on the Navigator of the Seas for our 25th wedding anniversary. The ship encountered a delay due to fog first and then later an oil spill. During both of these delays we received NO notification of the delays by RC. Our hotel told us not to go to the ship, we called RC to check and were kept on hold for 2 hours 20 min. the young lady that answered the phone said " I think I heard something about an oil spill but I'm not sure." I asked her if RC had our correct email and phone number and they did. I told her we have not received a notice about the fog delay or the oil spill. I asked to talk to a supervisor and was kept on hold for another 30 min. I then told the RC employee on the line with me that after almost 3 hours on hold I was just ready to hang up but I asked her to make sure we got all future updates on the ship sent to our phone or email and she assured me we would. At around 11 pm the hotel front desk called us and told us to go down to the ship. I told them I hadn't heard anything from RC and asked if they were sure. The hotel said, "yes" and we went down. Sure enough they were boarding. We boarded the ship that night. The next day they came on an announced we would be skipping Roatan due to the delay. We spent the evening on the ship and the next day they came on and announced that the cruise had been cancelled. They said everyone could stay on board for the remainder of the week for free. My husband and I chose not to do this because the pools and spas had closed, the casino was closed, all the shops were closed. There wasn't much to do with the ship going nowhere, and all the clothes we had with us were for warm weather. We got a flight home and left. We left with plenty of time because we wanted to beat the Huston traffic to the airport and stop for a nice dinner on the way home. We took a late flight out. During this time RC decided to sail. Evidently they notified passengers by email and text that they could return to the ship and re-board. Again, we never received a notification. We would have been thrilled to return for what turned out to be a 4 day cruise to Cozumel that they did not charge passengers for. When we returned home and found out on the internet that the cruise had sailed without us were were heart broken and angry. We have made 3 attempts with RC to make this right. They did not charge passengers for this cruise that ended up being a 4 day to Mexico and gave a 25% off a future cruise. However we did not get the opportunity to take the 4 day cruise to Mexico and we spent 2,300 in travel expenses. Also to re-book this cruise for May the price had doubled making the 25% discount worthless. We have asked RC to refund our 2,300 in expenses or give us a future cruise in lieu of that so that we go will be able to go on a cruise and celebrate our anniversary. They have refused. We have gone through 3 levels of customer service to the top supervisor in guest relations. She seemed irritated at having to listen to us and apathetic toward our situation. All the way through this we have had HORRIBLE customer service with Royal Caribbean!! If you want to be treated as if your vacation matters I would advise you NOT to book Royal Caribbean. We have had fabulous cruises on Disney and NCL.   Read Less

We took our first t/a on this same ship two years ago and got totally hooked on transatlantics, this trip was our fourth t/a in two years. R/C must have had all the in training officers put on this ship, it was really unorganized. The activities were led by people that had Just been informed that they were doing it or had not been told at all. The entire ship was hot in all the public areas so sitting in other than your cabin or outside was very uncomfortable. I get cold if the temp drops below 70 so it wasn't me, the men wearing suits were taking their jackets off after making an appearance. The ship lost satelite tv for 10 days so we watched the same reruns of recorded tv over and over again! The thing that bothered me the most was that they never bothered to tell us any news except we were diverting to try to get below a storm. I went on the internet after a couple of days rocking and rolling to find out that we were in the middle of tropical storm Melissa. If we wanted to know if the world wass still out there we had to telephone relatives or get on the internet both of which are expensive. I normally love R/C but this was a bad one.   Read Less

We were 13 friends traveling together and chose Rccl Navigator of the Seas because one of the couples is a platinum member. I have been on approximately 12 Rccl cruises in the Caribbean and Europe and the experiences have been spotty at best. This was not one our best experiences. As a whole 11 of the 13 were very and 2 somewhat disappointed. The ship looked and felt dirty. The carpets pretty much everywhere, chairs in the dining room and casino were dirty and worn. Our cabin furniture was soiled. Our friends with the Grand Suite had a sofa with soil and armrests that were dirty. The Grand suite toilet broke. Our other friends in a junior suite had no air. Rccl's anwser to that problem was a box fan. NOT KIDDING. The food was mediocre at best. The service was great. Our waiter was really very attentive. The ports were ok although we did not like our 5 hour stay in Puerto Rico and our WHOLE day at the Rccl Labardee port. Five of us went down the Zip line which was fun and then nothing else interesting to do. We had to be back on board from Labardee at 4:30 but everything was dismantled and put back on board the ship by 2:30, it's a rip off. The shows were ok, the comedian, last name Rogers was really good. The ice show was good but hasn't changed. We are all seasoned cruisers and this was voted our worse cruise. We usually go as a group and it's been decided we will try Princess next. Were pretty much done with Rccl. The brand is not what it use to be. There are to many choices to settle for poor, quality. We have sailed on Royal Caribbean before and enjoyed it. This was an entirely different experience. The food was mediocre at best. No complaints about the cabin, which was the best feature. There was virtually no dancing. The entertainment was sparse and only the comedian and magician were good. Very few shows and only the Vegas type imitations with limited performers. The pool area was awful. Most other lines have continual entertainment and a raised entertainment platform by the pool with room for dancing. Not so on the Navigator. Except for the cabin attendant, the other personnel were often rude or indifferent at best, particularly our waiter. The coffee and water stations were sparse and inconveniently placed. Obviously they wanted you to buy their overpriced drinks. They made a billing error which we hope was corrected. Children were everywhere and running and screaming, unlike other cruises. Two of the ports were proprietary, so practically worthless as far as seeing the real destinations. Our advise .... do NOT book with Royal Caribbean Read Less

This is my  6th time cruising, 2nd time with RCL.  Will NEVER cruise again with this line! Good experience: Excellent power water pressure from shower. Good food in the dining room. Nice decor in the dining room. Rosa, a professional, helpful, pleasant, and  knowledgeable staff at the purser.  We received outstanding customer service from her. Bad experience: Overall, Profoundly disappointed!  Below standard.  Worse than any buffet restaurants in North America I have ever encountered. Service: Rude waiters, rude passengers. One waiter in the breakfast gave sarcastic comment when asked for a clean table by the window.  Another in Windjammer also gave out sarcastic comment when I tried to return to our table via some road blocks (chairs used to block the entrance). Waiters on Deck 11 acted as if customers are a bother to them.  Very often  we're expected to give way to them. Chief waiter argued with passenger.  Not a very happy guy.  Showed very little motivation to serve, except, on the last night. Did not clear tables and let used dishes piled up. Except the last day. Food selection: Very limited choice of food in Windjammer. 3 stations repeat of food. Environment: Block off dining room sections at certain hours.  Stinky corridor and staterooms. Entertainment: Juggler- not very good Music- rather weak Broadway show- mediocre Directors: could have had someone with a little class. Management: Tipping expectation is a joke.  You expect people to tip for poor service.  Just because your company rip off your employees does not mean the customers have to subsidize.  Do you realize the tactics you used to ask for tips really turns people off?  We did not like to be told how, when, who,  and where to give the tips.   It is very obvious that they care only about making money instead of customer satisfaction. We've always been global independent travelers and never had the desire to be on a cruise ship prior to this year, and now we have 3 cruises under our belt and two more booked later on this year in November and December with Celebrity.I simply DON'T understand how Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas has received such a high approval rating on Cruise Critic when our experience was simply deplorable at best. Since we were among the first 20 persons in line, we breezed through check in , security and picture taking and were aboard in record time. We did observe that there were several lines for say a particular deck or cabin type, but not enough agents for each line, so there really is no fair way and can become quite chaotic when the building is much heavily occupied. Not a first come first serve system. If you are Pinnacle member, perhaps they might have a personal escort for you??Once aboard, we wanted to check on our dining room table assignment to see if the "special Needs" desk had indeed performed what they had promised prior to the cruise, as we had asked our booking agent to verify this, twice. My travel companion is certified deaf and has asperger syndrome and is incapable of interacting with others. We had requested a table for two for these sole reasons, but when we discovered that they had placed us at a 12 persons table, we realized that we were off to a bad start for our very first cruise with Royal Caribbean . It did turn out that they also failed to provide any of the required equipment for the hearing impaired, as promised. What is the point of having a special needs desk??We had asked several servers who were busy chatting in the dining room where the Maitre d'Hotel could be found, but none of them could answer that one simple question. We then proceeded to Guest Services for the inquiry and were told to return to the dining room to resolve this issue at a certain hour, which we did and the maitre d'hotel ( a lady) who was neither rude nor courteous, perhaps just indifferent. Her excuse was that we had booked the cruise 'late' but we received an email confirmation from special needs desk that all will be taken care of..Unlikely. While conversing to the maitre d', I felt like i was speaking to someone at the United States Postal Services and we all know how impersonal they mostly are, to put it kindly.Having that issue taken care of, we thought a bite to eat would be in order, so we went up to the buffet, eagerly wishing that it would be similar to the Celebrity Solstice which we boarded in January and March this year. To our utter disappointment, the food was borderline inedible, making food from Denny's a culinary marvel, simply a disgraceful atrocity. My travel companion had previously purchased a beverage package and he ordered a coke from a server around the Plaza Cafe. We later found out that the waiter , whom my companion gave the sea pass card to , had placed a charge of a Corona Beer in MY Folio. This is pure negligence. Furthermore, NONE of the fountain coke tasted right throughout the entire vessel, due to poor management and sheer laziness in All.The dining room servers were probably the most cheerful (table 24) persons we had encountered on the entire ship, the service was fine on the first evening, but again , the food was borderline inedible. I really don't want to dedicate too much time in describing how awful the food really was. For example, the menu may have attractive description, like haricot vert, but in reality, they'd stuff some huge, dried/aged chewy old green beans in front of you... The menu was also extremely limited. The head waiter came by to ask how everything was, to which we just answered 'ok' . It's not worth my time to complain and I am not a whiny complaining person by nature. Besides, what else would he do? Bring more of that disgusting food from the kitchen and perhaps call it something else??THe following nights, we decided to go to the buffet and Portofino for dinner since the buffet food is exactly the same as the dining room food at dinner, and we wouldn't have to waste all that time waiting for nasty food in the impressive 3 floor dining room. Portofino is another completely different experience, in a negative way. First and foremost, the decor, food and service does not warrant a surcharge of any kind. The waiter handed the menu to us and proceeded in 'lecturing' me regarding Italian customs and traditions and he would say, " in italy, the customary dish for appetizer is antipasti which consists of ......and followed by explaining to us what risotto is.....", and by that time, i had had enough of the nonsense and politely told him that " NEITHER of us is fond of risotto- twice" to which he responded: "no matter" and proceeded to finish his speech on risotto and whatever else, to which i blocked out completely.Quite obviously, he was following management's instructions, and this infuriated me a bit to be treated as an imbecile. I am a very well traveled individual and have been educated and resided in different continents, but nobody would know that; however , when hinted to seize, the waiter should have followed. The food was mediocre at best, but clearly one step up from the nasty inedible food they serve in the buffet and dining room. Our appetizer had 'hair' somewhere on the plate, we ordered the steak rare and it came medium well. We skipped dessert and went to observe the cuban refugees rescue, which was much more interesting than being trapped in Portofino. The waiter had the audacity to offer an almost empty bottle of sparkling water for me to take back to the room. We just smiled and left; didn't want to waste my breath. On the first evening, we ordered room service, hoping that it might be slightly better than the buffet and dining room. After ordering via the interactive menu from the awful fuzzy old tv, room service telephoned to confirm the order. The lady on the phone asked me twice IF i "really" wanted two pizza, and this led me to believe that the pizza may be larger in size than I had assumed. I asked her quite politely how 'large' the pizza was..." is it a 'personal' pizza? Is it more like a 4 inch, 5 inch pie? or is it much larger like a 12 inch pie.....".....she just kept saying that "it's a PIE and it has 4 slices". We went around like this several times and each time she repeated the same answer like a parrot, then I knew better to give in and note mess with the people who handle your food. This is genuinely a NEW kind of "stupid". I'm sorry, but there is no better word for it. It's like our Cruise Director Mike said that someone had asked him if that particular set of elevator would take them to the FRONT of the ship...go figure. Now comes the straw that broke the camel's back, and this is truly annoying to me, personally. Not sure about the rest of you...Royal Caribbean would deliver gratuity envelopes to your cabin on the last day at sea, and you would have to distribute to your room attendant, waiter, assistant waiter and the head waiter. We had PRE-paid our gratuity ; thus, the cruise line should automatically distribute that for us...but no, they "cannot do that". I spoke to a representative by the name of Laura at Guest Relations who was argumentative and most unhelpful. Although not blatantly rude, but the tone was certainly marred with disdain and disrespect. THere wasn't any point in going around in circles with some poorly qualified for a "guest relations representative" . This sets the overall tone of almost the ENTIRE crew on this ship, to be despicably cavalier. There are , OF COURSE, exceptions and one of them is YADIRA HUERTAS -title Guest Departure Officer, but is also a senior Guest Relations Manager. She was the ONLY person on board whom we encountered that possess unfailing courteousness and respectable professionalism with a smile. She made every effort in rectifying the awful experience we had on board, but truly, HOW can she change the general atmosphere on board, or command the cruise line to better train their staff, etc, etc. She is a true asset to Royal Caribbean and we feel that she deserves MUCH better somewhere else.I don't need to be pampered, or made to feel special. I DO; however, want better edible food, not to have to look at glum faces of the staff and be ignored and most of all, i do not want to be lectured by a waiter on things i had already learnt and experienced from childhood. We have been on the Celebrity Solstice twice this year and it is millennium apart when it comes to service, food and beverage , condition and decor of the ship. Celebrity and Royal Caribbean are owned by the same parent company and just HOW can they be so different?? Everybody who work in this industry has similar schedules and benefits, no matter what cruise line you work for, then how can they be so different?I'm so glad that we wisely chose a short cruise to investigate this Cruise Line. I can safely say that I will never return to Royal Caribbean unless they overhaul their operation. Needless to say, I immediately canceled my booking in November this year as well as the planned cruise in December and rebooked with Celebrity--concierge aft. I KNOW we'd be much happier. We are beginner cruisers, and we will learn from veteran cruisers from here as well as from other sources. We do know better to stay away from the Walmart Cruise Line and others alike.Any constructive advice is greatly appreciated!! Read Less

our first Royal Caribbean experience was certainly less than 'royal.' For a ship that was glitzy to say the least, the service was well-below that expected from embarkation to disembarkation. I guess we should have realized that there was a problem when we tried to get questions answered before we left and were told to talk to our travel agent. This was not our first cruise--#24--so we were surprised to be sent to a travel agent for simple questions. At embarkation, there were signs telling us to go two different directions and no staff to straighten things out. With the nearly 3,000 passengers and their bags this was not a good thing. After we got into a tent and sort of on the right track, we got into the real chaos. No one directed anyone that we could tell and the lines were exceptionally long. We finally found the 'handicapped' lines--two of them--but at the head was a group from India who kept bringing family members up. That line did not move at all. No Staff helped. Finally, I moved ahead myself in the second line, behind a lady who was in a wheelchair. When I finally got to the counter, the staff person was visiting with another staff person instead of doing his job and the Indian group was still bringing on family members! This is no way to treat the handicapped. On the positive side, the cabin was very nice. We did not meet our cabin steward until four days into the voyage. He did leave his card on the evening of the third day. I believe this is exceptionally poor service. Yes, the beds were made and the towels changed, but they were not always spotless. Dining is supposed to be the maximum pleasure on a cruise ship. The early seating on this ship was never a pleasure, but sometimes it was all right. Our waiter did try. Our table was designed for 10, I believe, and rarely were more than ourselves in attendance. Once we had the pleasure of 4 others. The food was all right--not spectacular and there was an alternative menu, so we could always find something we liked. The entire dining room was mostly empty, most of the voyage at the first seating. The worst of it was that the glassware was spotted and had lip prints EVERY night. We said something and once it got wiped off--not replaced. The silverware was also spotted. Why did we continue to eat there? The buffet wasn't any better, just different. The tablecloths and napkins were not clean in the dining room and at the buffet it was almost impossible to get the tables wiped off. When they were wiped off, they remained sticky. At one point, oatmeal was spilled on the floor and several people brought it to the attention of more than one crew member. It remained there for more than an hour. The ship was dirty and dusty throughout. What made this worse for us is that when you enter dining areas, the crew force you to clean your hands. I finally said NO. Don't push me. I know I need to clean my hands, but I have a cane and can't do it so fast. Disembarkation was just as bad, except it cost us money that we did not have to spend. We were told we could not make an early flight, yet we easily could have made that flight, and in fact, many people on the bus with us were scheduled on flights that were much earlier than the one we had planned to take. As a result, we had a routing that took us to Paris, by way of Bulgaria--yes, really! Additionally, because of the flight time, we were told that we had to take the earliest bus to the airport, which was also not the case. (That was not really so bad. We only had to sit there three hours.) NONE of us received a final bill for charges and when my husband went to the purser, the desk was not open. This was 6 a.m. I have NEVER been at a hotel where the desk is not open at 6 a.m. and where you don't get a final bill. Just one additional issue: my husband was injured on board. I wrote up the incident after I told one of the officers. (He told me a form would come to the cabin and it did.) The form stated that I would hear back in 24 hours. I have yet to see a response. There are many more things I could reiterate, but suffice it to say, I am very reluctant to give Royal Caribbean another chance. We spent a lot of money on a cruise that we were very dissatisfied with. Read Less

Cruise from hell was on March 13,2010 Navigator of the Sea's RCL. Mind you we are Diamond members (10 or more sailings on this line) Should have known from the attempt to board this was NOT going to be a fun cruise. Upon arrival at the embarkation where I presented my DL and Certified Birth Cert ( I called and asked if it was still acceptable, it is) the lady stated that the last names did not match. I jokingly stated that when I was born I was single, I am now married....lol...She next informed me "I don't think they will let you on the ship " I thought I was on candid camera or something. I pointed out I have sailed many times, as she could see by the Diamond status on your ships and used this birth cert and DL each time. She informed me they are really cracking down ???? Do I have a copy of my marriage cert with me ?? Of coarse I do not, who would take that considering I cruised with them many times and have never ever been asked for it. Next I was informed she was going to get a supervisor. Supervisor asked if there was someone at our house that could fax him the marriage cert ? I said NO there is not. His next question was do you all have children ? I said yes, we do His reply was "can you call and ask them to go to your house and send it ? Considering our son is in Iraq (Marine) fighting for our country that is not an option. Next asked what state we were married in He will try to go online and pull it up and print it (at our expense ($22) We were then shown to a room to wait for about an hour while this went on. He did get it and we proceeded on the ship. Next big surprise was the NO SMOKING rule now in place. We were NOT informed of this, we both smoke and would never consider a room where smoking was not permitted even if it was free, much less pay for it. Called the desk to ask if we could pay for an upgrade to balcony (where you may smoke outside) Not available, we were told. Never Again on this line. Why not have some non-smoking decks and some smoking decks ? Room card, did not work replaced it 5 times, still no luck. I was unable to get into my room or purchase anything while on board the whole time. My favorite was when we went to their private Island. Of coarse when I tried to get off the ship the alarm went off, they hit some buttons on the computer and let me go ashore. Getting back on however was not that easy. Apparently when my card was swiped a little boy's pic was coming up. Not sure what I did wrong for this to occur. I was asked if I had any ID with me while trying to board. Mind you it's their private Island ??? I was in a bathing suit, with a cover up on. I did not have any ID other than my card. My husband was then asked if he had any ? We took cash, card and sunscreen only. We then were escorted to the 5th floor to get yet another NEW ID card. The security guard that walked us up there had the lady try twice for a new card, no luck, little boy still. Security guard then said I'm sorry mam we need to go back down to 1st floor and re-do your pic and get you a new card. By this time I have to pee like a racehorse.I'm hot (93 degrees) and wanting a shower, and then some lunch. We go all the way back down to do the new pic-surprised the camera is not working.....We then have to head over to another camera and this time it works....finally. Excited I may have card that actually works. I put it in my door, nothing still does not work. Try to buy something in gift shop, no luck My husband can purchase goods though. (yes, we are on the same folio) I tell the lady in the gift shop my husbands card works and I already had to get 5 new ones. She says if your husbands card works then we can use it. I go all the way up on the deck, find my husband, get his card, go back to the shop, hand it to the same clerk who informs me Oh, no sorry the person who's name is on the card has to be here. Food on this ship is not as good as Carnival. And forget about seconds unless you are young and exposing yourself. My husband was not allowed to have a second lobster. The young exposed girls at the table were allowed. We complained to the head waiter who asked our cabin # and which server etc...head waiter said he will look into it and we will definitely hear from him that night NEVER heard a word. Stateroom attendant was unable to understand English. Smaller cabins than Carnival . Royal has seen its last dollar from us. I recommend any other line than RCL For the Gamblers- the old slots they have still spit out coins. No ticket in ticket out yet.I hate touching dirty coins. No new machines, all are at least 10-15 yrs old Very (old)limited selection of slots. No way to track your play either, you do not put your card in the machine (they are too old) At no time did I ever meet anyone employed in the casino. On every other ship I get comped drinks, wine sent to my table, baskets to my room. (I play alot) But not a word from anyone. Good luck finding an ashtray in Casino I think they have 4-5 for the whole place. If you are lucky enough to find one, keep it, take it from machine to machine with you. We had another cruise already booked on RCL for Sept, along with 40 of our friends (22 cabins) We called to get a refund as my husband refuses to ever step foot on another RCL ship. All have called to get a refund and we are going on another line (Carnival) where we get treated like they do care. Read Less

I have cruised 15 times before and actually this cruise would have made me a Diamond Member.(10 Sailings) I used to think Royal Caribbean was one of the best in the industry but after this last cruise, not anymore. I feel that it has lowered it standards so much that there is no class left on this line and that is what used to separate it from the rest. Everything on and off of the ship that is related to Royal Caribbean is about making a buck, not the passengers enjoyment. I booked this cruise 5 months in advance thinking I was safe since RCCL has a "Price Guarantee" Well the rates dropped, and dropped and dropped. When I called RCCL four times, they said that the "Price Guarantee" did not apply to "Royal Sales Events" pricing. What kind of crap is that. So in a nutshell, my parents who booked last minute, same category paid hundreds less than us and they had use of our money for months. DON'T BOOK UNTIL LAST MINUTE TO GET THE BEST DEAL. In just the last few years, the following have disappeared from Royal Caribbean ships. The midnight buffets, Chocolates on the pillows, the Caribbean night by the pool, the platinum member gift (hat or tote bag) Hair Conditioner (It still says they provide it on their website.) and much much more. What has appeared are a $4 charge every time you pick up the phone for room service after midnight and if you try to call for room service at any other time, they do not answer the phone, I imagine it is to discourage you from ordering. We had to call guest services and see if they could connect us. This happened every time. The price of the drinks is outrageous. The drink of the day was as much at $8.50 plus tip and they have made the glasses much smaller than they used to be. Wine...OMG. 1-$9.99 bottle of wine in Ohio is $56.50 on the ship incl.gratuity. They have reduced the value of the Platinum member coupon books so much that you might as well throw them away. ie: Buy one bottle of wine for $50 or more and get the second (over $50. for 15% off) So because you are a platinum member 2 bottles for $107.50 with gratuity. At home for this wine-$20. The menu in the dining room has not change in years. The best food on the ship comes at a cost of $20 and $25. per person in Chops and Portofinos. This is the kind of food that used to be in the dining room and included in your cruise fare. We ate Breakfast in the WindJammer and not once did someone come and collect our dirty plates or ask us if we wanted juice or coffee. This is all self serve now. What is not self serve anymore are the beverages in the Windjammer, they have a station with glasses of water, juice, coffee. This prevents anyone from refilling their own water bottle so that you have to pay $4.95 for theirs.(I drink at least 8 of these a day...You do the math) When I asked the beverage attendant to please refill my bottle for me they refused. Shaking his head, making a tisk, tisk noise. Also, on our last evening in the Windjammer, the wine water actually growled at my 80 year old mother, not once but twice, because she did not want to buy wine. OMG, I couldn't believe my ears. We could not get 4 chairs together in the solarium. On the last day, We went down early and got 4 towels with our seapass cards, for which you will be charged $20 per towel if not returned to them. The women handed me the towels and said if I got caught saving chairs and I lost the towel because of it, I would be charged. My husband and I said "we are getting two additional chairs for my Mom and Dad who had to wait for the elevator because they couldn't do the stairs and besides, we haven't been able to get 4 seats together on the entire cruise. She just shrugged. This would have been a pleasant sea day but the solarium pool was closed all day for some reason and the spa took the color out of all of our swimsuits, over treated. We would finally doze off when the bing bing bing of announcement went off to announce to everyone that Royal Caribbean needed more of our money and that we should hurry and go buy bingo cards ($44 for 4 games), or amber jewelry or Fine Art at the auction. This happened every hour. VERY annoying but the straw that broke the camels back was this..... We were on this cruise with my parents who in the past had bought and paid for 12 staterooms in D1 for a family cruise in 2007 on the Adventure of the Seas and they wanted to do it again for our family this summer. One the first day I called down to guest services and asked them to move them closer to the elevator, as it was too far for my Mom to walk. They wouldn't and the ship was not at capacity. At that moment Royal Caribbean lost $30,000 from my Parents because we will not book another cruise with them again. As far as entertainment. They had a great comedian one night but the Royal Caribbean singers and dancers sucked. For a relaxing vacation, do yourself a favor and book a hotel or condo on the beach somewhere and enjoy the beauty, culture and flavors of the country you are visiting. It will be much cheaper and much more enjoyable then being trapped, herded and bullied by of a cruise ship company that wants every penny you have. Read Less

Just off this Rome-Sicily-Athens-Turkey(Ephesus)-Crete. A total waste of time.First, these are not great ports. Sicily was 100 degrees, and only had a 2 1/2 hr drive each way for 45 minutes on MT Etna or a vist to an ampitheatre in a tourist town that closes 12-3 pm. This gives you an hour for sites and barely an hour for shopping which is limited. The port town is awful. Our kids stayed in town and the highlight was a car on fire. Athens was fine, but all tours sold out very early, forcing us to find a taxi/pseudo guide. Kusadasi was the best stop, and the highlight. Great town and the ruins of the town of Ephesus were outstanding. Crete...why even stop. Dock and off around 8am, and on the ship around 1pm, with a 55/pp trip to a crowded beach the only main option, and a riun site, which we did, which was very poor compared to Ephesus. As per the ship...crowded!!! The 3 small pools were never accessable in any daylight hour. You don't want to walk the periphery unless you are prepared for the gauntlet of cigarette smoke...awful. All outside decks were loaded with smokers, which was allowed. THe food was poorer than any other cruise we ever were on and the buffett often had no seats. Another thing I never read about Royal Carribean (our first, usually Princess), was the limited access for the kids to the things they brag about. Ice skating...most days it is open only for 2 hours, with the exception, the last day at sea. Same with the rcok climbing and in line skating. You book with the expectation these are 6-10 hours a day and easy access. Not so. When open, the rock wall was 30-45 minute wait. Skating was a parking lot and often they ran out of common sizes. It was laughable the inline "dog walk" (about a 40 ft narrow oval) was closed due to "wind". I checked...ship was at 20 knots and wind speed 8-10 on the monitor. It's a ship at sea for goodness sake! First and last time on Royal C. Our kids totally agreed. Read Less

I was gravely disappointed with this cruise on the Navigator of the Seas with Royal Caribbean on March 18th. It started from the time I called Royal Caribbean to learn they did not rent wheel chairs while aboard the ship. I was trying to get one for my mother who was traveling with us and has Multiple Sclerosis. Then I found out as we were on the ship they did have Royal Caribbean wheel chairs, we saw them quite frequently aboard the ship. I can not understand why they told me they did not have them when I called and no they did not tell me they where out for that sailing. It was a direct "no" we do not rent wheel chairs. So my mother spent most here time in her cabin without a wheelchair. I was extremely disappointed with everything on the ship. They served the same food in the Windjammer for breakfast and lunch everyday of the week. Breakfast I can understand, but not lunch!! I have never had that even cruising three times before with them. I went on my first cruise on Carnival in December 08 and was quite impressed with them compared to this cruise. They had a wide variety of food everyday and it was never the same. Who wants to eat the same food over and over? Carnival even offered FREE Sushi on there three day cruise. On past ships with Royal Caribbean they have the Seaview Cafe that offered chicken wings, onion rings, and a variety of other options. They do not have that on their newer ships. Instead they give you Johnny Rockets and charge you a fee of 4.95. How much more greedier are they going to get? My experience with dinner in the formal dinning rooms was not as well as expected. Our service was terrific but the food was mediocre. We were told they do not offer lobster on there 3 or 4 day cruises. On my recent three day Carnival cruise we had lobster, plus paid much less for the cruise itself. Even the shows on this cruise were only average, the shows on Carnival for excellent actually incredible compared to this cruise. They have also changed there delivery policy on alcohol. They use to deliver it to your room on the day before departure. Now you have to pick up you alcohol the day you depart. I guess they don't think you have enough to do on departure day. I asked the two men working "how am I going to pack it if my luggage is already packed up and gone". The two gentlemen looked at me like I don't care that is your problem. We all know the reason they started this policy is greed again. They want to make sure you buy their watered down drinks, so they can make more money off of you. We also noticed on departure day a few people in are area alone that had forget to pick up their alcohol. One person had been waiting over an hour for them to bring it out to her. Royal Caribbean is not looking out at all to what could make your departure easier. I booked this cruise for ten of us and one person who went with us had only been on Carnival ships. She had cruised with Carnival about fifteen times and I had raved so much about Royal Caribbean I was embarrassed by the end of this cruise. She won't be going back on a Royal Caribbean ship ever. In short the comparison from this four day cruise on Royal Caribbean compared to the three day on Carnival. Which, this is something I never thought I would say Carnival well surpassed by expectation. I don't believe I will be traveling on Royal Caribbean anytime in the near future. I hope everyone reads this and it helps make your decision if you are considering a cruise between the two. Please don't make the same mistake. Remember you are on this cruise with no other food but what they serve you and I don't think anyone wants to eat the same thing over and over!! Read Less

Totally agree with my fellow sailor's review - I think we were on the same ship? This cruise was FULL of Italians which may not seem so bad but they are the rudest and most arrogant people I have ever met! They will not queue and will ignore any queue no matter how large. This was not helped by the staff frequently serving them anyway even if a row has erupted. There were very few English on this ship which made sitting and chatting a little difficult. We had tried to get an extra cabin a month prior to sailing and were told that there were only junior suites left at a cost of £4000 but we were told by staff on board that the empty cabins were sold to the Italians for next to nothing just before sailing?! (Confusing). Our cabin as I suspected was too small and cramped as we had two kids with us (royal caribbean had assured us they were made to accommodate four!!!Don't think so!!) and when we did meet some British over the course of the holiday they had all been upgraded - disappointing. On arrival we found in our drawers a green and mouldy choc chip cookie!!! Otherwise it was ok. Food was bland and often lukewarm or even cold. It was very difficult to get a seat at breakfast we tried various times to no avail. Staff were very good however. Had problems with a large item for $800 incorrectly going on our bill - this took the staff three days to sort out and i was beginning to get a bit stressed out about it in the end!!!! The ports were all good except there wasn't really enough time to do anything in Crete - Turkey was just amazing!!!! Messina a bit quiet but pretty. Ephesus is not to be missed!!!!!!We had a wonderful tour guide which made the experience really enjoyable. We didn't use the main dining room as the vegetarian menu was very fancy and my kids are both veggies but we were told the staff were surly and that it took a long time to get all three courses. We paid our gratuities before sailing but we found they were prepaid to the Waiters in the Main Dining Room and we hadn't been in there - so that was irritating aswell - we did ask if we could do anything about it but were told "no" Would definitely cruise again but not with RC we found it not the best value for money and we were totally disappointed - as a travel agent myself we are hyped up to believe RC to be 'fantastic' but my experience doesn't back this up!!!!
