The activities and shows were great! The bands could have had a better selection of music, they played the same songs each night. The cigarette smoke was so bad in the casino that you could not go anywhere near it you could smell the smoke as far away as the elevators. Very small pool, very disappointing, and smoking is allowed on deck, it is designated areas but the cafe and towel service was right next to the smoking. The stateroom was great, staff was great. Food was wonderful, but the main dining room should have better options for vegetarians, just my opinions than soy meatballs with lentil chili, while the other guest were offered lobster and prime rib. Balconies were being serviced with fresh varnish while we were on board, you had to close your curtains and could not use the balcony. This should not be done during the cruise, guest pay good money to have a balcony and should have access to it throughout the cruise. Read Less

We sailed on the Brilliance of the Seas, the ship was updated in most places and always clean. We stayed in a junior suite and enjoyed the comfort it provided. The staff in the dining room and winjammer made the experience great! Iwan was such a pleasure to see every night, greeted everyone with one of the biggest smiles, and truly seemed happy to help. The entertainment was hilarious. The cruise director and activities director were such a great asset to this cruise. The service was pretty good overall. Our housekeeper didn't really provide the Royal Caribbean/cruise experience. The room was clean, but he seemed too busy to speak when we saw him and only made one towel animal the entire 5 day cruise. That's nothing really, but is always fun to see when you return to your room at night. Grand Cayman was beautiful, but the Fury Catamaran in Cozumel is a must do. Angel and his staff really showed everyone a great time. They were friendly, fun and knew exactly how to get the party started! Angel, his crew and the excursion was the highlight/center point of fun for our trip. Would definitely go on again. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the ease of getting in and out of the Tampa cruise port as well as the cost of the cruise and value provided. Boarding from Terminal 6 was the smoothest I have experienced, and the ship and crew were ready for guests as we entered the Centrum at about 11:00 am on embarkation day. The WIndjammer buffet was bustling and the food variety and quality were great. After eating, we went to the Solarium to have lava flows, our favorite traditional embarkation day drink. Our room was ready early, and it was our first Ocean View room. We have been in junior suites, Ocean Views with balconies and various types of inside rooms, and I have to say that this room, Cabin 4014 is my favorite so far. Our attendant was great as usual on Royal Caribbean. The Main Dining Room is a little over crowded. I attest this to our sailing being completely sold out. The Windjammer buffet is one of the best run buffets I have seen in the Royal Caribbean fleet. Really, really good. The entertainment was mostly what you would expect, and it was pretty good. There is one band on board that is really, really good and versatile with multiple styles and great playing...the Kronos Band! Wow! Although the Pub is in a strange place on Deck 6 forward of the Casino and aft of the main theater, it has a great layout, lots of TVs and a pretty good beer selection. I also really like the Schooner Bar near the Colony Club at the rear of the ship. The ship itself is older, but is aging nicely. You really feel in touch with the sea as there are windows to the outside everywhere. I really like this ship. Read Less

First-time cruisers, and we were blown away! Chose Brilliance for the length of cruise — 5 nights — and the ports of call — Grand Caymen and Cozumel. Fell in love with this boat and her crew! This boat is beautiful, elegant, and exciting. Can’t even describe the exhilaration we felt walking up to the ship, and that feeling never left! Went earlier than our embarkation time and breezed through the line in less than 20 minutes. We’re quickly enjoying the Windjammer, and cleared to go to stateroom by 1:30. Carried our own bags off and we’re through customs and curbside by 8:00 in the morning. Enjoyed the shows, the games, the excursions and the sea days. Never felt crowded. Staff went out of their way to make us feel like royalty. Were still discovering new things to see and do on the last day of cruise. Dining was an experience. Windjammer is quick, delicious and plentiful. Minstrel Dining Room was excellent in terms of service, selection and quality. Tried many new dishes. Even had lobster although another guest had told us RC didn’t serve it on a 5-night cruise. Had a great time visiting with new friends and taking a couple of hours to have elegant meals. Alexandra is an incredible server, and head waiter Anthony worked hard to accommodate us on the night we came in late from excursion. We shopped on Grand Cayman. Found great souvenirs. Didn’t buy anything big, but we enjoyed getting the charm bracelet and charms from the different stores following treasure map from the ship. Planned on going to Royal Palm for the rest of the time. Taxi driver recommended public beach instead. It was perfect. Their were bathrooms. And we got a delicious meal of jerk chicken and pork from a guy cooking on the beach. In Cozumel, we did the Climb the Coba Pyramid and Swim in a Cenote excursion from Royal Caribbean. Yes, there was a lot of travel to and from Cozumel. Yes, we were in a hurry at each place. But oh my goodness, what memories and what views and pictures! Do it!! And make sure to pay for the Royal Caribbean excursion on this one; a private tour could easily have you missing the boat. Read a lot of reviews while researching and preparing for cruise, and many people feel the need to point out negatives. We didn’t have any! 29 years of marriage, and this was the time of our lives so far! We traveled without kids, and Brilliance was the perfect couple getaway! This time of year, there were not a lot of children. Can’t wait to take our kids on a cruise now, but this first one was for Mom and Dad. Relax and pick this ship; a great vacation awaits you! I am a longtime cruiser on RCL. They have been my preferred cruise line for many years. But I have not sailed them for over a year. During that time I sailed on their sister line Celebrity and because of receiving a cruise certificate, I sailed on NCL. My return to RCL was an eye opener. Embarkation went smoothly, being diamond level speeds up the procedure, it took no more than 30 minutes from the time I arrived to get on the ship. Everything went smoothly till time to go to our cabin. They were running late so it took about an hour longer than expected but we had several items to attend to once onboard so that was fine. The first problem came when we had not received our luggage by dinner. The cabin attendants had been delivering luggage all afternoon so I was not concerned till I looked out of my cabin and noticed there was no more activity in the hallways. I went to find my cabin attendant. When I located her she told me all the bags had been delivered and if mine wasn't there it must be in security. I went down there to check and searched through all the luggage they had. My bags were not there. The security guard informed me if my bags were not there they must be in the hallways somewhere so just start checking them. I did this, I started on my deck first, and just walked the hall. I located my bags sitting together in the hall on the opposite side of the ship and way down the hall. True self service. Also experienced a problem in one of the specialty dining venues. We had a disagreement on charges and when I brought to their attention, I was told by the assistant manager and then the manager that there was nothing they could do about it they had to follow policy. I then asked to speak to the food service manager and was told he could not come. I then asked that he tell me where I could go to speak to him. At that point I was told he was on his way. When he arrived we resolved the problem. Not the customer service I expect from RCL. At disembarkation they misplaced one of my bags which resulted in additional delay while trying to locate it. Once again it was in the wrong place. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we live in Tampa, had an unexpected week available in the front of January and wanted a short easy vacation getaway. This was booked only about 3 months ahead, and it delivered on those points. This was our 5th cruise and first on a RCCL ship. We don't like the giant ships, but have been on smaller ships that felt bigger than this. The public spaces and walkways seemed smaller, and were often very crowded because cooler weather forced many inside. More kids than we expected, but that is on us because we had to travel when schools were on winter break. I read one reviewer comment on the smoking and agree with them. It was awful. Im used to ships having this figured out where smokers and non-smokers coexist happily. On this ship I seemed to be very aware of smokers all the time. Even sitting in the atrium central area just relaxing, we could smell the smoke from the casino wafting through. Speaking of the casino, it was fun but too small and not ventilated enough. My in-laws said the slots "were good" and I even tried roulette for the first time. Eventually so did a lot of people apparently. By the third day, the table stayed so crowded I never played again. They had a second table on board, but I only saw it open once. In addition, as mentioned, it would also get so thick that even non-complainers were staying away looking for fresher air. A BIG disappointment was the tacky "mark up" square on the main dining room menu. Ive have not been on a ship before where Filet not only was missing from the "every night" menu but had an upcharge. My wife went ahead on the last night and ordered it "at 30% off special" and then is was just...ok. What a shame. Just cheap and tacky. Positives...service in the main dining room was FANTASTIC. Our server Claudiu and his team were attentive and knowledgeable. He was also excellent with dietary concerns. The bartenders were very well trained at keeping track of when people walked up. I never waited more than 5 minutes for a drink, and the bar by Guest Services (I don't remember all the space names) had a guy who made the best Vodka Gimlet I've had in years. The cabin was fine space wise, but I have certainly become spoiled in this area by Celebrity ships in my spending category, which is regular person class. lol. That was a TINY bathroom. And what is up with having to ask for conditioner and lotion? The only room service included was continental breakfast, which was punctual and sufficient for wake up coffee and nibbles before going to breakfast. Overall...not my best cruise experience but not horrible either. As my title says, any day on cruise ship beats any day at work. Read Less

This was a 25 person Family Cruise. Very boring and over priced. The Brilliance of the Sea had a very tired feeling to it and it seemed to be all about the tips. The dining room food was not very good. Small portions and not very tasty at all. Service was very good at the table but overall the food was very poor in quality and taste. There was only 1 hot tub for adults and it was always full with a waiting line. There was alteration at the customer service area with a drunk person on the last night of our trip and there didn't seem to be any security available at all. When we inquired who was in charge we were told that they didnt know but they managed to get some sort of manager out of bed to come talk to us. We did file a report but not sure what came out of it. I would not go on this ship again. Read Less
