The cruise and timing were good, and weather was better than expected despite some rain and cold air. We had no issues with embarkation or disembarkation during our port stops. We were pleasantly surprised at the option to check out luggage in from the ship. This was such a relief and made the return home feel so much lighter having picked up some items at each port. The Dining in the dining rooms was better than the buffet the only early option of 5 PM was too early. It put a rush on our timing back from visiting the ports and other activities on the ship. The food was not as good as I would have liked, and options were lean but the wait staff provided great service and a heart to ensure we were treated well. I needed gluten free and they made sure to get my order the night before so I could be served with the other people at our table. The options and food quality at the buffet were less than desirable. I felt food was overcooked and salty. Omelets were difficult to get, and the process was difficult and long. Waited almost 20 minutes for an omelet on the days the ship was at sea. The shopping experience on board was better than expected. Variety and sale options were good and timed appropriately. Entertainment was okay but music options on board were not good not timing between meals and other activities. Missed a lot trying to navigate between areas and activities. I did enjoy the naturalist and the sled puppies on board. Really heightened the experience of the cruise. We did not take in the “Movies Under the Stars” based on the weather despite having blankets to use which was a nice touch. Cabin was spacious and were cleaned well each day. The excursions took a lot of the time away from just visiting in the port towns but well worth every penny. Learned a lot about Alaska and the environment and climate issues. Loved every minute of Tracy Arms, Whale Watching and the train ride in Skagway. Did our own port town walk Ketchikan and Victoria, both delightful and so much fun to visit. Read Less

First time cruiser. did not explore the ship history. i dependented on my travel agent. the cabin was okay, the bed was very soft, but the room was very hot. the food was just awful and was served over and over again. I was looking forward to having crabs, but we had crabs only one night and a very small amount. I have never seem king crabs legs so small. i had to keep asking the housekeeper for towels and we never got soap. i don't think he ever change the sheets on our beds. but i did give him a tip before leaving. i were so sick and tire of someone trying to sell me something. the entertainment was okay. The excursions that took us into canada to the supension bridge, and that was overprice, served lunch of half cooked chicken. coming back into america from canada, our border patrol did not come on board the bus to check any pass ports. canada border partrol did. i will not cruise on princess again, but may try another line, but will investigate and check reviews before booking. I think a lot of the people that work on these ships think it will be all fun for them, until they find out that they have to work hard. Read Less

Leaving from Seattle was a nice plus for me. Getting to ship was easy and embark process was quick and easy. Had a balcony cabin, and having a balcony was my favorite part, especially with all the fjords and passageways. The room was a bit dated but overall was satisfied and it was very clean. Plenty of space for a stateroom . Decor could be updated. Dining was absolutely awful. Both anytime dining options were very very bad. Service was mediocre. Other options for food was the buffet which was just ok, the international cafe which had almost the same selection all week and almost as bad as main dining. Didn't try the pay places because we figured would be equally bad. The theater entertainment was pretty good, nice shows etc. A lot of the onboard activities were kind of a joke though. The cruise director was super cheesy and overall vibe of the cruise was very cheesy. How many times can you be begged to clap for the same thing. Maybe some people enjoy this type of thing, just not for me. To be fair to the cruise director he did a great job, I just think he had to play to the vibe that princess wanted. The cruise was mainly folks over 55 and families with young kids. Stateroom service was wonderful. Room service pretty good as well. Ports seemed a bit rushed, especially Victoria and Juneau. Shore excursions were overpriced. The lumberjack show is awful. Overall service staff isn't very friendly or helpful. Alaska was great but would not recommend this brand or ship. Read Less

First the positives: Great embarkation/disembarkation process. Very efficient. Itinerary was nice and Alaska was beautiful. That's where the good ends. For the negatives: This was the most outdated ship I've been on. The back deck smelled like sulfur/sewage most of the time. The Casino smelled different but equally as bad. We toughed it out an gambles a few times but no one in our party was offered a free drink while playing (maybe that is a company policy but their sister company carnival offers drinks to players). Very noisy near our state room making it hard to rest. Paper thin walls where you could hear your neighbors conversations. Beds not very comfortable. We booked twin beds but arrived to a one bed and had to wait until the beds were separated before settling in. Most activities on the ship were nickel and dime scenarios trying to separate you from you money. The food was just ok. dining room was a bit better but not by much. Most events were very unorganized. Many of which not starting on time and then not allowing you to get to something else in time after. I've been on several cruises and this is the first bad experience I've had. Maybe it was just this particular ship but not anxious to try Princess again in the future. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it started and ended in the beautiful city of Seattle which adds another couple of days of sight seeing on our own prior to the cruise departing. We arrived Friday afternoon and explored Seattle that night, full next day and morning of cruise. We booked our own hotel. Perfect! My parents are avid cruisers so they booked us rooms that had windows (which we wanted) but we all had obstructed views to keep the costs down. See my cabin review for more details. This is the third time I have cruised INSIDE PASSAGE with Princess Cruises. This cruise went to Tracy Arm Fjord (I personally prefer Glacier Bay for more magnificent views). We booked the EXPERIENCE THE YUKON & SUSPENSION BRIDGE for our 3rd time and each time it's been a fantastic value for SKAGWAY. This shore excursion is extremely thorough and the coach takes you all the way into the Yukon (passed amazing scenery) and much further than the train. You end up at Caribou Crossing Trading Post which is an amazing stop where you can play with Alaskan huskeys, ride a mushing vehicle (extra), pan for gold (extra), view an amazing animal museum, gift shop, yummy bbq lunch included, ice cream shop, and tons of farm animals. It's great for fun photos as well. I think EXPERIENCE THE YUKON WITH SUSPENSION BRIDGE is the best excursion for the cost. In Juneau, to save money, we booked strictly the MENDENHALL GLACIER (self guided tour) which got us there and gave us plenty of time to hike to NUGGET FALLS. In KETCHIKAN, we immediately went to the visitors center and got the walking map which was a free walking self guided tour and was quite fun (walking required). Our tour guide also pointed out several bald eagles and some Juneau info as we went to and from the cruise dock. On board the ship, there are so many activities to please all ages and tastes. The crew was so friendly, professional and went out of their way to serve everyone. We chose "anytime dining" as not to be restricted in schedule. We would just choose 5 or 7 and be first in line so never had to wait to be served in formal dining room. One opens at 5 and one 7. Horizon buffet was really impressive too. Having pizza, burgers and ice cream available was an added bonus. The food was a huge variety and very well prepared. I've been 3 times on INSIDE PASSAGE and I would go again. It's such a great value. Embarkation at Seattle and disembarkation was flawless and professional. Read Less

Never have I ever written a critique just to praise everything. I read and research every ship on Cruise Critic before I book. I feel others want unbiased opinions or why ask or read them. Never have I ever had such an engaging ship’s captain as Capt. Tuvo. He is an asset to the company. Never have I ever enjoyed such delicious cruise line food on the past 20 something cruises we have taken. The variety, quality and presentation was a highlight of our cruise. Never have I ever had the savings of only getting I drink package for hubby. I can never do the package justice. On PCL we were able to save money on drinks which was a first. Never have I witnessed so much cleaning and prepping. Never have I enjoyed such old world charm on a ship. The beautiful furnishings and design if the lounges are sumptuous. Oodles of places to play cards and games with sea views. IMHO PCL could have more staff to passengers ratio in these areas so we could have felt more pampered. Never have we (hubby noticed it also) ever watched so many servers avoid eye contact or just ignore us all together. We did not enjoythe noticeable waiting for someone to take a drink order. Never have I ever fetched so many drinks for our group. It was so noticeable that I feel the need to point it out. However we do acknowledge the need in the industry for this type cruise experience for those that enjoy being self sufficient. Some may find the staff asking “ may l get you something” annoying. Never have I ever had such comfortable bedding. Decadently cozy describes it. Never have I ever found blood stained bed linen on day 1. I am surprised by the lack of attention to detail. However, leaving a note for the cabin steward resolved the issue. Never have I ever had an on board Factory Outlet sale set up in a dining area for a four hour sale. Some cruisers loved that. Never have I ever witnessed a so many cruise staff being rude, indifferent and impolite to cruisers. I feel it may be a lack of training of the staff members. And the few experienced, well trained staff members were few and far between the inadequate workers. I made sure to write and turn in to guest services onboard commendations for staff that went out of their way to make sure our cruise was enjoyable.I really hope the company recognizes their efforts. Never have I ever had so many inappropriate interactions with staff. Examples of a few were: Cruise Director staff telling a passenger excited by game play “to Calm Down” three times in front of an audience. I felt it was purposely using the person as a chance for laughs. It wasn’t kind. Another time, my ill sister-in-law needed water. She went to two people at the Explorers Bar. They both pointed to the pitcher to help herself rather than stop their prepping for bar opening. She asked them because she was afraid that she couldn’t lift the pitcher. Never have I ever had dining staff tell me to not go to use the facilities because the waiter finally showed up to take our breakfast order. We were given a table with no one assigned to it. Never have I ever had staff interrupt me by saying “ if you would let me finish”. Why should I when you got me to your promotional by giving false info. I’m not new to cruise spa promotions. If you can’t honor the discount then why waste the vaca time I paid for to let you sales persuade me into what I know I won’t pay for. Sales are noticeably emphasized on PCL. Lastly, this comment from the washroom attendant when we told her that the bathroom needed servicing. “Why do they use so much paper?” It’s all laughable now but for a company with the slogan “Come Back New” it gave us pause to ever rebook with PCL unless the price was extremely hard o pass up or the ship goes to a bucket list destination that no other cruise line sails. Now we are forewarned about the PCL company. In my humble opinion if PCL really wanted to improve their staff responsiveness then PCL wouldn’t have closed my chance to take their on line survey 72 hours after disembarking when the directions said I’ld have two weeks. Makes me think they don’t care. However, I was able to do hubbies’ before it was closed for comments. Thank goodness we have Cruise Critic available to discerning consumers. As for cabin review and excursions please see the follow up below. Read Less

The cruise fit our travel schedule and we picked the best weather for the week. Sunshine everyday. We had no issues with embarkation or disembarkation during our port stops. Dining in the dining rooms was better than the buffet but it depended on your schedule as to which one to use. We used both. We did not take the cruise because of the food selections so as long as it was nourishing, it was okay. Unless you are looking for jewelry or art, don't get caught up in the sales pitches, it takes away from your valuable time for both sailing and excursions. Entertainment was very good, enjoyed the theater shows. A little too breezy for watching movies under the stars but did enjoy the walks on deck. Cabin was spacious but air was not working properly and refrigerator got warm b/c of lack of ventilation. Recommend balcony rooms just because of the views and privacy. Stateroom steward was excellent and the front desk was very helpful. I would definitely go again if the opportunity presented itself. I wish we would have had more time in some of our ports. The excursions took a lot of the time away from just seeing the towns where we stopped, but they were all very good. The train ride in Skagway, the Mendenhall Glacier excursion in Juneau or the tours of Ketchican and Victoria, they were all terrific. Read Less

Star Princess staff was very friendly and helpful throughout the entire cruise, the dining staff made excellent recommendation of meal selections. So many choices for dining that you should pace yourself so you can try everything they have to offer. All of the Star Princess Entertainment was great and were a joy to watch, take everything in and you will have a wonderful time. Take advantage of the shopping and duty free items that they have to offer while your onboard. Excursions were wonderful and we were able to see many great things and wild life. take advantage of these as they will make your time better Disembarkation was as smooth a process as Embarkations. The seafood was terrible; salmon over cooked, lobster tail salty, mushy and inedible. Poor selection of desserts. Staff in dining area not very attentive. Buffet very good with a nice selection. The Piazza entertainment was very enjoyable. The ice cream bar was poor, soft ice cream and few toppings. Dated furnishings but in good repair. Water leakage on some decks. Cabin very comfortable and larger than expected. Temperature control excellent. Housekeeping staff very good. On ship daily activities varied and very good. A good variety of excursions. Length of stay in some ports very limited. The shops were not very exciting, poor selection. Some items highly overpriced. Bargain sales poor. Personal items very limited. While on Alaska cruise, I had a conversation with Mr Marino one of our waiters. The conversation was about lumpia, a filipino dish. I was talking about my visit to the Philippines and my love of lumpia. The very next day at dinner, Mr Marino placed lumpia on our table. It was hot and absolutely delicious. What an awesome treat and moment to remember! My question is, what makes a cruise for you? The food was good, the ports were great however, to me the people made ninety-five percent of the cruise. The conversation and the act of an employee who takes his job to a whole new level made this cruise one I will never forget. The kindness and the great people did not end there. Everyone aboard the ship were really awesome to include the other guest. Nothing like having someone you don't even know say "good morning" "hey" (yeah, there were a few Texans) to you and mean it. Almost every single person I met was kind beyond words. For seven days, I dealt with people who had no political agenda and did not speak about the politics our country. The people were not angry and pushing their politics but truly enjoying the cruise. In a few days, I'm headed on another cruise. I pray that the atmosphere is the same our better. Read Less

We had been looking forward to an Alaskan cruise for years. The overall trip (ports) were fantastic, but this ship is really old, in disrepair and smelled moldy. The decor and furnishings are out of date. The theater area had ripped upholstery on the walls, and stained carpets. One of the main dining rooms has a musty smell. My traveling party of 4 would all get stuffy heads and headaches if we ate there. We avoided it after the second day. The spa waiting area and locker rooms smelled moldy and many of the lockers were broken. The spa had an overall feeling of not being clean. In the private pool area near the spa there were missing tiles around the pool and the safety handles to get into the pool were rusty! The crew were friendly, the cruise director was fun. This was my first cruise on Princess line - I have cruised on other cruise lines. They should either take this boat out of commission, or do a major renovation. If this boat is a representation of their brand and quality, I would rather use a different cruise line for future travels. Read Less

The time fit our schedule. We had our teen grandsons with us. We are Elite and our grandsons are Platinum. While I have never had a bad Princess cruise, this one disappointed me in several ways. Itinerary: Squeezing a ten-day cruise into seven days obviously requires some sacrifices. Here it was Tracy Arm AND Juneau on the same day. There was not enough time to enjoy both fully. The late night stop at Victoria was also troubling. There's not much to do or see in the town late at night. I knew the itinerary before we sailed, of course, but I didn't fully appreciate how rushed we would feel. Disembarkation in port: There was never adequate signage telling where the gangway was. At one stop, we were directed by a staff member (in officer clothes) to go up a deck to get off. When we did, the rather rude security person told us we had to go back down to the deck we had just left. When I told him we had been directed there, he snapped back that "there are signs all over that deck." There were no signs. I never encounter rude staff on a Princess ship, so this surprised me. Crowds: I realized soon after boarding that this was a first-time cruise for more than half the ship, and many of these people were families with children. A person's first cruise is a learning curve, so I don't fault them for making a few errors (such as getting on the wrong elevator or arriving late to dinner.) The problem was crowds of people making the same mistakes: saving seats and deck chairs, pushing and shoving in the buffet, playing loud music and talking loudly on balconies. A related problem was the number of unruly kids running and screeching in the halls and on deck. First-time cruisers perhaps don't realize that kids need to behave on a ship and that the staff is not there to babysit. I think some of those kids could have benefited from attending the kids' clubs, but I don't know if the option was made clear to the parents. Part of it might have been a language issue since there were many people who didn't appear to speak English. These crowd behavior problems are not typical on Princess cruises. We were simply victims of our schedules and could not hold out for a cruise earlier or later in the Alaska season. On the plus side, Elite lounge in Skywalkers was nearly empty so we got very attentive service. Our dining room staff was perfect, as always. The room steward was nothing short of a saint taking care of two messy teenage boys. Surprisingly, we were invited to the Most Traveled Passenger party (but had to decline) with our relatively paltry number of days at sea because there were so few Elites on the cruise. That gave me a laugh. Star Princess is going to P&O in a couple of years, so I was glad we got to sail her again--in spite of the problems. Read Less

We chose to sail on Princess, having been told by multiple friends in the travel industry that they were the best choice for an Alaskan cruise. ENTERTAINMENT We particularly enjoyed the live entertainment opportunities on the Star Princess. -Consonance Duo was a highlight of our week, playing gorgeous classical and popular arrangements on piano and violin. Both musicians were incredibly talented and enjoyable! We were so glad to discover them early on and to be able to enjoy their musical offerings throughout the cruise. -Magician Alex Ramon was incredible! He is the consummate entertainer, performing awe-inspiring tricks and dazzling the audience throughout his shows--each one fresh and intriguing. He is incredibly gracious, mingling with guests and sharing magic around the ship. -The Star Princess Singers and Dancers/Showband/Orchestra were all incredibly talented. We loved all of their performances! One of the lead vocalists, Steven Coleman, had a spotlight show and was amazing. He has a gorgeous voice and takes the audience on a journey, excelling at a variety of musical styles. A huge treat to be at his show. -Camp Discovery was an awesome option for our 10-year old! The staff was very welcoming and had all sorts of fun activities planned. My son couldn't wait to go there as often as possible! DINING We very much enjoyed our meals in the dining room. The menus offered a nice variety and were generally quite tasty. Definitely better quality than in the Horizons buffet. Our waiter, Bela, was so attentive and personable, we looked forward to our meal times. My family took advantage of Prego Pizzeria, the Trident Grill, and the soft-serve ice cream. We were a bit underwhelmed by options at the International Cafe, room service and sweet treats on the ship. Have had some more appealing options on other cruises. But, we managed to eat constantly so obviously enjoyed the food well enough. :) EXCURSIONS The Rainforest Canoe Adventure & Nature Trail in Ketchikan (Alaska Travel Adventures) was an enjoyable way to take in the beautiful scenery of the area. Loved our bus driver, Lisa, and boat guide, Doran. The Whale Watching & Mendenhall Glacier Tour in Juneau (Juneau Shore Tours) was a good one. We lucked out and saw a pod of whales bubble feeding, which was pretty cool. If we hadn't seen that, it would have definitely been less exciting. After that, we bussed over to Mendenhall Glacier. We had time for a quick walk to Nugget Falls/the head of the glacier but would have enjoyed a bit more time to enjoy that area. The Grizzly Falls Ziplining Expedition in Skagway (Skagway Shore Tours) was a family favorite. Devon and Colton took great care of us, helping us to feel very secure and able to fully enjoy the whole experience. Definitely felt like this was worth the money! The Butchart Gardens and Fireworks excursion (through Princess) was incredibly overpriced, which was frustrating. The gardens are gorgeous, but we only got 40 minutes of sunlight to enjoy them. The fireworks show was very unique and something to see, for sure. But, if your excursion starts at 7:30 p.m. (like ours did), you may not get to the gardens until 8:30 p.m. (like we did), and the sun was down by about 9:10 p.m. $94.50 was a steep price for that amount of time. THE SHIP The common spaces and staterooms were well-kept, except that our shower had mildew, which seemed like an unacceptable oversight. Other than that, we really enjoyed the ship! All in all, a fabulous week on our Star Princess cruise to Alaska! Would highly recommend! Read Less

I chose this cruise line because I desired to take my family to Alaska. The embarkation and disembarkation were the smoothest and most professional parts of the cruise. The cruise catered to a specific demographic and offered very little for others. It was not child/teenage friendly and provided limited services for them. Most of the staff was not friendly or professional and were simply there to do a job. They were not there to provide a memorable experience. The photographers did not take good quality photos which gave a limited selection to choose from. We desired to buy more photos but could not. The food selection and quality did not meet the standard of other cruise lines. Some of the cabins were nicely sized but had very small showers. Each Port of Call was very nice, had great scenery and offered less expensive excursions on shore. All of the excursions (purchased all after arriving at port) were nice except the last (Victoria), which provided almost no excursion opportunities because we arrived at 7:00 p.m.. This cruise line provided a very poor cruise experience and simply fed and transported us from one location to another. Read Less

We actually purchased this cruise at a Benefit Silent Auction. The ship was beautiful and immaculate. Staff and entertainment were outstanding, Cruise Director was really enthusiastic and fun and loved the comedian. There were lots of activities as well as entertainment and because we did 4 excursions missed a lot, I would love to take the same cruise and just stay on the ship to take advantage of everything. Our excursions were booked through Princess and all met our expectations, very informative, with good travel guides. Transportation provided for these was good except a couple of times we did have a long walk off the ship to the buses or trams. My husband had hurt his knee just before we left on our trip so we even changed our excursion in Victoria from the walking tour to the double decker bus ride which was great. (Our daughter and my sister, who cruised with us, felt that was an extremely long walk and they had a hard time getting a trolley to get to the ship on time.) We did find that the Excursion Desk had rather limited hours though. Food was great and we were offered lots of different options. We had the "anytime dining" which worked well for us, and loved going to the dining room for breakfast rather than the buffet although both offered lots of options. I would have liked to see a couple more seafood offered (mainly crab legs) All of the wait staff were extremely friendly and all had interesting stories about their lives on the ship, always made us feel very pampered and special. For lunch we either did the buffet or one of the smaller specialty food booths and took advantage of the two complimentary lunches in the Crown Dining Room which were outstanding! Liked the idea of having 24 hour room service although we never used it. The lady that took care of our room for us was super nice, and always asked if things were OK or if there was anything else she could do for us. Room was very nice and we loved our outside balcony but bathroom was super tiny. Lots of closet space though. Didn't use the Fitness facility. Would have liked an adult swim time. I think Princess might be a little pricier than other cruise lines but well worth it. We were celebrating an anniversary and loved that there were balloons and a big card to greet us at our cabin as well as a special dessert one night. No problems either getting on or off the ship and appreciated the extra help we got with our luggage. Read Less

I always wanted to see Alaska. My husband no longer travels. So I decided to take my nine daughters and this was the week that nine of them could take vacation time or get babysitters I am lactose intolerant and was very pleased and appreciated the chef took the time to speak to me about my diet every evening about the following days menu. The room was great and the opened the door on the balconies so that we could join one another with out going out in the hall to contact one another. We enjoyed Gaven at the piano bar every evening. My daughters enjoy dancing and although most people sat around and just listened to his music, my girls danced. Gaven went out of his way to accommodate them. The one thing about our experience on the ship was dealing with the service desk. I paid for the entire trip for my daughters. Our helicopter trip was canceled due to the weather. That of course was due to MOTHER NATURE, not any fault of the ship. It was a very expensive excursion. I paid for all ten of us and I expected a refund which I haven't received. Also, the excursion that we selected for Saturday night and paid for times ten was changed. It was suppose to end with fireworks. When we got our tickets and noted it stated the fireworks were cancelled, we opt for a different excursion that was less than fifty percent of the original one. I expected to get the difference for that times ten. So far I have not received a cent back. This is equal to several thousand dollars. My daughters have gotten checks but they also don't add up to what I should have gotten. Read Less

This was our first trip on Princess Cruise on the Star Princess, a 7-day cruise to Alaska! We knew the service, the food and people were going to be excellent, we heard it from family and friends. We left from Seattle and from the onset we knew this was going to be a great trip! We arrived at the port and our bags were taken right away to the ship. We were escorted onto the ship by the wonderful PC staff who made the check-in process easy. When we arrived at our room, our bags were already there. This first night at dinner set the tone for our entire trip. We did not expect a simple act of kindness to make our experience even better. My father is a stroke survivor. He uses a wheelchair and has limited speech. At dinner each night were Head Waiter, Suvio; our waiter, Syam, and assistant waiter, Gusti. An attentive, fun and especially kind team. Suvio set the standard of Kindness. He saw my mother cutting my father's food and came over to do it for her. This was natural, not a dining room service. It was from the heart. During our entire cruise, Suvio pushed my father's chair to the table, cut his food, asked how everything was going throughout the night and then pushed my father's wheelchair out of the dining room. If you are a person with a disability or have a family member with a disability, you will understand the sometimes loss of social value when you are among others is difficult. Working to have a meaningful life and experiences seems harder than it should be and being a family member trying to make that happen for the ones you love is even tougher. Of all the wonderful experiences on the ship, this was the exception. We felt like family. To see my father smile with all his struggles was the most precious moment for us. He looked forward to dinner each and every night. Princess Cruise offered my mother and father ease in coming on and off the ship; a beautiful, accessible cabin with a balcony to see the wonderful ports and sites of Alaska. Terrific shows and activities for all of us to participate in as a family. My daughter loved the teen activities and met new friends from other states. The food was delicious designed, prepared and served by a wonderful chef, culinary team and staff. A special shout out to our Princess Cruise Specialist, Tammy Lank. She helped us arrange the cabins for our family and friends. She took great care in helping us choose an accessible cabin for my parents near the elevators and choose our interior cabins a few doors down from them. This was our first time on Princess Cruise. It will not be our last...Mahalo and A Hui Hou (Thank you and until we meet again). Read Less

Star princess Crew is the friendliest , service is top notch. They go above and beyond to make your stay a great experience. Our only complaint was the AC in room and refridgerator not working properly. The TV was in a bad spot when you came in off balcony you would bang your head. The entertainment was extraordinary like broad way shows from New York city. The cruise director Gary was the best. the room service the room stewards, bar tenders dining was top notch. The shops were expensive not much variety, the effy jewelry staff were very pushing when you walked by . The photos were great but way over priced, and so many people didnt buy there picture and they get thrown away. what a waste of paper. give people cheaper prices and you will sell more. the ship was very clean and fresh flower were in all bathrooms. The staff made getting on and off the ship run very smooth. the excursions were great except for victoria canada, we got into port in the evening everything was closing excursions were cut short to get back to ship and fireworks were canceled. This was our first time cruise, because if the staff I would consider going on their ship again. Read Less

In the past cruising wasn't as popular as it is today, therefore the cruise lines don't have to try as hard to please you. Plus the passengers aren't as thoughtful and courtesy as years ago. This unfortunately how the world is today. Our cruise showed all the signs. Crew members lying to us about why the ship was 11 hours late to sail. Bartenders would ignore you. Food was reused for days, and passengers were noisey and thoughtless to other passengers. The ports were really fun, but you don't have to spend all kinds of money to see things, adventure out on your own. This is more fun and alot less expensive. When deciding on your room be aware of your surroundings and book from there. I feel that now cruising is more popular the staff don't have to put there best foot forward to please you. Tracy Arm was wonderful and so glad we could sail down it to see it. Glaciers are also beautiful to see. Read Less

We went on an extended family trip, ranging in ages from 4 to 74. Everyone found something they loved. There were passengers of all ages onboard, this is no seniors citizens only trip! The staff and food were amazing! I would definitely go again. The 4, 8, and 16 year old in our party had a blast. There was something to keep them happy at all times - pools, hot tubs, kids clubs, (almost) unlimited ice cream. We bought the soft drink package and found it to be a great value. We got fun plastic travel mugs which we could carry everywhere on the ship and get unlimited juice, soft drinks, and virgin drinks in them. Soft drinks are $2 a can otherwise. I have celiac disease and gained weight on the trip. I usually loose weight when I'm traveling. We ate in the main dining room every night. The head waiter brought me the next night's dinner menu each evening so I could select what I wanted to eat the next night so they could prepare it gluten-free for me. They made an extra effort to get me a dessert every night. I did well with the buffet food as well. I could always ask a chef to let me know what I could eat from the buffet. I could not eat at the pizza or hamburger bars. I chose not to get the ice cream after I saw the server rub a cone against the bottom of the ice cream spigot. We loved having the naturalist on board, that was a big plus for us. We were also lucky enough to go up Tracy Arm Fjord which was amazing. Some of our group got up early to see the whole part, but the rest of us were happy to get up and watch as we got closer, then enjoyed the return trip. Read Less

I chose the Star Princess because of the wonderful experience I had on the Regal Princess in Florida. This was a my first mistake. To my disappointment, the poor standard of food offerings forced my partner and I to eat at the specialty restaurants four out of seven nights. As far as I, and my seven travel companions are concerned, the food in the dining room and buffet was inedible. Princess should be ashamed of themselves for serving that food. I've shown friends and coworkers photos of what you presented me, and some were shocked, the others laughed at the uncooked lobster, over baked beef Wellington with undercooked dough, and fish that was just horrible. I will never take another Princess cruise again because of this. I'm usually not someone to share my complaints, but these pictures and my commentary have certainly made the rounds amongst my large group of cruising friends. Some were surprised, others gave knowing nods when shown the barely passable food presentations. Other than the food, which is a very important part of a cruise, the ship itself appeared to be ready for an update, as parts seemed aged already. On the bright side, we stayed in a suite which was very comfortable. The room was spacious and the bathroom was roomy also. The shops were well stocked with great shopping items and the art gallery had some very interesting pieces. I found the casino to have a standard amount of tables and machines to play on but it seemed dingy to me. I was very impressed by the excursions I chose, like the private hummer tour and the helicopter to the glacier. I only went to a magic show and a music/dance review at the princess theater which were decent at best. Two nights we went to the Skywalkers nightclub and listened to the DJ. I found the nightclub nice but outdated like the rest of the ship. As far as, the internet access plan on the ship, I wouldn't waste my money, well, that's what I actually ended up doing. It's 2019 I think they could catch up with the other cruise lines with a more efficient and easy to use system. I booked a massage for the 2nd day at the Lotus spa which was visually pleasing, but the experience at the spa itself was horrible. The uninterested attendants gave me a robe and no slippers because they "didn't have men's sizes". Over half of the lockers' locks were broken or had doors hanging off the hinges. I regretfully handed the robe back and walked into my massage in my clothes, changing in the room. Again, Princess should be ashamed of themselves allowing the spa to be in this shape. Read Less

We chose this cruise as we had wanted to see Alaska for quite sometime and finally had the opportunity to take the trip. On boarding was fine. Of boarding for excursions was slow and getting off on the last day was also slow. Our excursions were fun. We did the hike and float in Skagway and the self guided jeep tour in Juneau. The ship was old and dated but clean. The vegetarian options were lacking. I lived off side dishes for lunch and dinner for all 7 days. The cruise director Gary was amazing, he was one of the highlights for sure. SherAnn in the dining areas was simply fantastic, a true spirit to serve associate. The quality of the dancers and singers was not great in a few of the shows. The piano bar singer played all the songs in the spirit of a barber shop quartet but was missing the quartet. The female singers in the UK show had some annoying vocal habits. We tried to avoid any further shows staring them~ We went to one karaoke night and it was super fun, the place was packed so it must be popular but they only did this twice and both times the show was so short only a few people could sing. Why not do them for a longer period of time due to popularity?? Read Less

We've done river travel with Viking and American Queen, but never ocean cruising. This was a perfect first-time experience, nothing disappointed us about the Star Princess. She is splendidly appointed and has aged well. Shipboard operations were masterfully directed, every imaginable detail accounted for, professionalism manifested throughout. Buffet cuisine was fresh, diverse, ample, palate pleasing, and there were no long lines. There were sightings of whales and dolphins and eagles while we dined in Horizon Court. Horizon was our choice for lounging and catching up on conversation. Cabin care was impeccable. We enjoyed sparkling clean facilities throughout the vessel. Attention to maintaining a healthy environment gets a lot of focus on Star Princess. Service top to bottom was consummately attentive, energetic, and courteous (that matters to us). The serenity of our voyage was complemented by stunning Alaskan summer weather. We booked one excursion, very satisfying, the White Pass Yukon Railway journey out of Skagway. Folks, you don't have to empty your retirement account to take this trip. Embarkation and disembarkation processes were smooth and swift and hassle-free. We loathe confusion and ambiguity and complication. Star Princess is your antidote! Read Less

We chose Princess Cruise for our Alaska trip on the advice of our travel agent. And Princess Cruise delivered a perfect 10 aboard the Star cruise ship. From the embarkation process to the Stateroom to the Ports to the activities to the disembarkation process. We encountered amazing staff everywhere who made this vacation memorable. Our seven day cruise took us to one Canadian port and three Alaskan port cities that we would never have the opportunity to visit. The highlight excursion by far was the Tracy Arm Fjord catamaran which took us close to the stunning glaciers as we glided past a multitude of seals with eagles flying overhead and black bears wandering the shoreline. Not to diminish the many whale and dolphin sitings from the ship itself. Mesmerizing. Our Stateroom cabin felt spacious with the best layout I’ve seen separating the bathroom and closet space from the bedroom. The onboard activities offered were both entertaining and informative. We met two mushers and sled dog puppies. A WOW! Music and shows all well done with great talent. Each and everyone in our adult group of 11 so enjoyed this week. Kudos to the Princess Cruise Line! I loved this cruise and almost everything went perfectly. This was my first ever cruise. The staff for the restaurants and serving, cleaning, etc. are mostly Filipino and they are the sweetest, kindest people you will ever meet. All of the dining was excellent from the buffet to the formal restaurants. Plenty of food choices and very high quality, equal to dining out in a fine restaurant back home. I loved their breads. I couldn't get enough of it. We were fortunate enough to get a cabin for disabled passengers just by luck, and it was rather roomy and nice. Clean, comfortable, but most of all, very quiet. You cannot hear anything at all coming from neighbors. The cruise was sold out so I know there were people in the neighboring cabins. Very nice HD TV and a small refrigerator. The queen size bed was actually made up of two smaller mattresses placed side by side, so during the night they would often separate. The public areas are very clean and comfortable. I thought the best entertainment was actually the small intimate gatherings in the ship center on deck 7, or in the bars. I loved the "Consonance Duo". The formal shows were ok but "Born to Dance" was the best show by far, and the comedian "Noodles" was great too. The Magician was good but he's tries to hard to be a comedian. This all being said, I would like to offer a few items that were lacking. They push shopping very hard, especially in the jewelry store, EFFY. It is seriously overpriced. If you wait for the shore stops, you will find the same jewelry discounted from the ship at least 60%. They do place some nice deals out on deck 7 each day in all merchandise categories, those were pretty nice shopping for. Do yourself a favor and avoid the "Shopping Concierge". She pressures people to fill out jewelry surveys and tells people "don't shop in non approved Princess retailers on shore" which is totally ridiculous. She also likes to share the life story of the founder of EFFY jewelry like I would even care. The Spa services are also very expensive, but they are of high quality. I also had an unfortunate experience with the Acupuncture doctor, who pressured me quite bad about getting "a free consultation". When I said I wasn't interested, repeatedly, she actually got rather loud, nasty, and insulting. The stops in the ports were all very interesting, but unfortunately they spend too much time in Skagway, and too little time in Victoria. Victoria is a beautiful Canadian city with plenty of restaurants, shopping, and sights to see. Skagway is a tiny port town with a couple streets of pure tourist stores. I hope Princess considers dropping Skagway and making Victoria a full day. Activity updates and newsletters are great and delivered everyday. I do kind of wish they had more information on the Planetarium star watching activity. They had a signup time but no other information. Overall I would rate this cruise "Excellent" and would go on a Princess Cruise again. Read Less
