Vancouver-round-trip cruises, with no need for air travel, are always a draw for us! This cruise was a terrific 10 day relaxing get-away and we are very glad we went! We were dropped off in Mission in time for the final West Coast Express commuter train to Waterfront Station, had breakfast in the Food Court then walked over to Canada Place for Embarkation. Would do that again if smaller suitcases involved. Anytime Dining was the only option available when we booked and it worked out well. We would choose that option on future cruises as it gave us the freedom to opt-out and head to the International Café or Horizon Court instead without inconveniencing dining room wait staff by our absence. Smaller suitcase requirements (for train and skytrain lugging) can now be met as minimal formal and smart casual outfits would be required! I found out on day 9 that there was a jigsaw puzzle table on deck 14, upstairs in the undercover pool area, by the pingpong tables! Wish I had heard that on day 1! :) Women's public washrooms were often down to one working stall....which made for occasional long lines, especially at disembarkation time after the requested 'vacate your cabin' time had come and gone. Embarkation and Disembarkation went quite smoothly. We took Skytrain to Surrey, where a friend picked us up after our cruise. Read Less

All the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. They all demonstrated genuine enthusiasm for their jobs. We really enjoyed meeting staff of all different nationalities. This really enhances the cruising experence. We also very much enjoyed dining at the specialty restaurants. The menus were delightful and wine selection was superb. The Serving staff were extremely knowledgable and helpful in making entree and wine selections. The buffet provided a variety of delicious food options with an international flavor. We also very much enjoyed the enrichment lectures. The presenters were very knowledgable and most entertaining. We learned a lot about Hawaii's flora and fauna and James Cook's Pacific adventures. Princess also puts on quality shore excursions. I would highly recommend them. They provided very good value for the mony. The embarkation and disembarkation processes were also extremely efficient. From arrival at the cruise terminal to our stateroom took a total of 45 minutes including clearing security and customs. The luggage handling was also very efficient. All in all, a wonderful cruise experience. Read Less

This was our first cruise with Princess. All of our previous cruises were with a Holland America. We wanted an opportunity to visit all of the Hawaian Islands and this was what we thought would be a good option. Friends has recommended Princess so we decided to book this 15 day cruise. Food served in the main dining rooms was sub-standard as the fish was over cooked and tasteless. All the seafood and fish dishes were unacceptable. I sent several plates back to the kitchen. I had a plate of mussels in a white wine cream sauce and the mussels had not been cleaned properly (beards) and less than half of the shells had opened during cooking. This tells me that they were not fresh! I ordered medium rare prime rib and it was bloody! However, the desserts (Chocolate Journeys) were exceptional. The ship was old and worn looking and obviously had plumbing problems. Most of the women’s washrooms were closed for maintenance during the entire 15 days! The entertainment on board was very good and there were lots of activities during the day. I gave this cruise a poor rating because of the sub-standard food. Many other passengers commented as well. This was our first cruise with Princess and it will also be our last! Read Less

As we live in the Vancouver area we had a friend drop us off at Canada Place port. It took a bit of time and patience to get through security but then is was a quick embarkation. After having lunch we went to our cabin to find our luggage waiting for us. The emergency drill location for us was the Princess Theatre. It was very well organized and no need to bring life jackets. It is well worth it to get the "Coffee Card" to be able to have specialty coffees and a better cup of brewed coffee in the Piazza. We enjoyed the Enrichment Lecturer, George McGuire. He was very informative and entertaining. I did a few of the crafts, played cards and Mah Jong on the sea days. We went on a tour of Honolulu that we arranged at the port. The $50 each price was a lot better than the ship's tours. The Pearl Harbour Memorial was our last stop, before being returned to the ship. We were not able to see the "long movie" (all tickets - they are free, had been already given out) but we checked out the two small museums and they were good - also free. In Nawiliwili we walked to the nearby shops and enjoyed the picnic / park area and boardwalk. We decided not to get off the ship in Lahaina as we had spent quite a bit of time prevously in Maui, and this port required a tender. We enjoyed a peaceful time on the ship. In Hilo, we went to the farmers market and ate lunch at the "Pineapple" Bar. We had Pulled pork sliders and Pineapple cider and ale. The bus back is cheap, but takes a long time so it is better to get a taxi or Uber and share the cost with another couple. Back on the ship we participated in putting, ring toss and paper airplane contests. Daniel Oliver was a great singer and piano player in the Crooners Bar. We really enjoyed this cruise because of all the Canadians on board, over 2,000. A lot of passengers were from the Vancouver area. Princess provided us with a traditional Turkey dinner for our Thanksgiving and had a special trivia and Canadian Name that tune that evening. We chose the Walk-off option so we were off the ship before 8am. We took the Canada Line to Bridgeport station and then a bus home. Sure beats having to fly. Read Less

Hawaiian Cruise October 7-22, 2019 Sea Princess Ship Vancouver to Vancouver Boarding and demark and daily weather conditions The best place to stay if coming in a day before the cruise to Hawaii is the Pan Pacific Hotel. This is a 5 star hotel with great location. Cost by taxi from Vancouver International Airport to the Hotel was a fixed cost of $36 Canadian. Leaving the hotel for boarding the ship is very simple and less stressful. Call the hotel bellmen and they will assist you in attaching the cruise luggage tags and then transport them right to the ship for processing and loading on your ship. Taking their elevator down to the CS level leaves you less than 500 steps from the start of the cruise ship check in process. Checking in is a 3 step process: security screening, US customs and then cruise check-in. Check in starts at 10.30 and I would recommend getting there sooner than later. People with disabilities are processed quicker and a Nexus cards speeds up the US customs process. We did it all in less than 30 minutes. The ship left the port at 4.30pm. The captain warned us that the seas would be rough the next 24 hours with swells to over 4 m. It rained all day of the check-in process but stopped by 7pm. Recommend to take warms clothes for the first 2 sea days and bring some seasick medicine – you can buy some on ship and the medical center on the ship and also offer some assistance. Day 2 (first sea day) Overnight the seas were quite rough and remained rough most the day with some easing late in the day. Mostly cloudy in the early morning then clearing to some clouds, temperature remained below 60F. All the pools were closed but people still watched the movies under the stars and ate in the outside areas. Day 3 (second sea day) Seas have calmed down with the temperature rose up to 66F today and mostly cloudy skies with some sunny periods. Winds still persistent. One hour back tonight for time change. Day 4 (third sea day) It was a perfect sea day with calm seas, sun/clouds and light winds with temperature of 72F. One hour back tonight for time change. Day 5 (fourth sea day) It was a fantastic sea day and sunny skies with great temperatures of 76. No hour change tonight. Day 6 (fifth sea day) Last sea day before Honolulu and the weather was great with temperatures around 82F mostly sunny with calm waves and light winds. There was a one-hour time change night – behind. Day 7 (Honolulu, Oahu) We had a great day with excellent weather 85F humid with some clouds. Did island circle tour by Tours by Locals – tour guide Marie – excellent island tour. Day 8 (Nawiliwili Kauai) Hot and sunny day 87F humid, mainly sunny with isolated brief showers. Did the Waimea Canyon / South Side Tour by Tours by Locals – tour guide Noah Friedberg. Day 9 Lahaina (Maui) Hot and sunny day 89F humid, mainly sunny with isolated brief showers. Did the road to Hana and the helicopter ride back – great tour - Tour by Princess Cruise Line. This is our favorite Hawaiian island. Day 10 Kona (the Big Island Hawaii) Today was cloudy, humid with sun and temperatures around 78F with passing showers. We did a Kona side island tour with Tours by Locals – tour guide Scott who was very good. Day 11 Sea day Today was cloudy, humid and windy with some sun and temperatures around 78F. Seas were a bit rough today. Day 12 Sea day Seas were rough last night and today. Sunny today with clouds, windy with a high of 75F. Day 13 Sea day Seas were a little rough today with sunny skies and temperatures around 70F Day 14 Sea day Foggy, cloudy, windy with some sun and a temperature of around 65F Day 15 Sea day Rough seas with cold, foggy, cloudy windy day around 58F. Day 16 Vancouver – time to leave the ship, head to the airport and fly back to Toronto (Burlington home). Rainy cold day. Getting off the ship was well organized and took very little time. We able to easily get a taxi to the airport which is the fastest and least expensive option. Read Less

I chose this cruise as it left from my home and allowed me to travel with my mother, who is elderly, easily. The ship is old, worn out and broken down. Our cabin flooded with water. They removed us from our room during the day, ripped out the ceilings and fixed the leak but our clothing was wet. The storage cupboard was soaked along with the carpet. We had no where to stay during the day. At night we could sleep in the cabin but only with the balcony door wide open ans the smell was atrocious. We asked to be moved to another cabin. We were told for 2 days that no other cabins were available. F We had had enough and asked to leave the ship at the first port of call in Honolulu so we could fly home. We asked for a refund. Amazingly, a cabin be came available. It was at the very back of the ship, we had a mid ship cabin. The balcony was not covered and there was a hot air vent blowing on the deck all day and night which made it uncomfortable to use. It was s lot of extra walking for my mother and it was difficult to sleep with all of the engine noise. The food on the ship was terrible. It was unseasoned and had no flavour. I actually lost 2 pounds while on this trip. I finished only a couple of my meals. In the Horizon Buffet there was a bowl of rotten peaches out for people to eat! Everything on the shop was ridiculously expensive. The staff looked worn out and unhappy. Many people we talked to on the shp complained about the food, the leaks and the moldy smell of the ship. All in all there was no value for the money we spent. We should have booked an all inclusive in Mexico. Read Less

We took a family vacation to celebrate someone's birthday and they chose Princess from Vancouver to Hawaii. I also know friends who are avid cruisers and was told that Princess is the best when it comes to food. I was disappointed for so many reasons. The bed in our cabin was old and too soft which was very uncomfortable and we had aching backs for much of the trip. We had the air conditioning set as low as it would go and it was still too hit. We had someone come to the cabin 3 times to try and fix it but had no success. . Food was mediocre and mostly very bland. Buffet was very small and food was not very hot. There was no more happy hour or buy one get one free and coctails were very expensive with the Canadian dollar exchange rate. Everything was expensive on the ship. Daytime activities were fun and plentiful. Unfortunately we had the late dinner seating and missed out on a lot of the lounge entertainment. I would recommend the 515pm seating. The production shows were boring with the exception of Motor City. Our cabin steward was very friendly and always greeted us with a smile but other staff, not so much. After breakfast, and being charged for a glass of cranberry juice to me is outrageous. We booked an appointment in the platinum studio to take a family portrait and the photographer took way too many photos of us both individually, with siblings, with spouses, and all we wanted was a family picture. We came back the next day and chose a pboto. If we wanted all the photos on a usb stick, the price was 3100.00 US. Outrageous! For what we paid for this trip was definitely not worth the money. Chosen for the fact that it departed and returned to Vancouver. Other than that very disappointed with size of cabin ( swing a cat ). Washroom no bigger than a postage stamp. Shower was so small to wash your legs and feet, head would stick through shower curtain. It was claustrophobic. To towel off was impossible either hands, elbows or shoulders would strike the sides. No cold water came through the faucet just hot or warm. This was mentioned but told this is how it is. The room was so small my wife and I bumped into one another quite often. Other than the actual musical shows ( there were 4 ). The rest of the entertainment was average at best. The food was away below par. Especially at the buffet. Only breakfast was edible. Capri dining room perhaps a step up but but not great. Casino was smoky and machines very tight. I think 1 jackpot of 5000 was won during the whole cruise. It would appear that princess cruises are in tough for money and are cutting back on good service, good food and first class entertainment. They are very heavy on shopping stores and in selling low end junk. Not as advertised and our travel company should have known about these shortcoming. It was a waste of money. Read Less

This was a great cruise overall. As most know, the PNW weather can be iffy in the Fall and we surprisingly had amazing weather for this trip for late September/early October 2019. I didn't know what to pack (even though I live in the PNW) and even with the weather being good, I still didn't pack enough warm clothes for enjoying the outdoor space at sea. We had a balcony room (L301) and many days we sat on our balcony as we sailed away and I could have used more layers. However, days in port I was perfectly fine with capris, long sleeve, and a vest. But on the ship I needed to dress warmer. Layers would be my advice for future cruisers on this with gloves, scarf, hat, vest, coat, and some lighter clothing layers for warmer weather in port. But the weather was so nice on our first at sea day that we even could lay out in swimsuits, by the pool, heading south on our at sea day! But on our at sea day going north I used the atrium pool area as it was cooler. Go figure! We stayed pre-cruise in downtown at our time share. We flew into Sea-Tac and took the light rail into the city (SO EASY if you've not used this before, and cheap!!!) (YouTube Seattle Light Rail system and it'll show you how easy)Then we walked to our resort and used Lyft to the port. Lyft dropped us right off at the ship where we boarded around 11:30am. Barely any lines, hardly any waiting, probably less than 30 minutes from drop off, to on the ship. Got on the ship and made our way to the Horizon Court for a buffet lunch. Seating was crowded indoors, so we sat on the back outside deck and had lunch. It was cooler, so needed our warm jackets & coffee during lunch. At 1pm it was announced that our rooms were ready and we made our way to our cabins where we were happy to see our luggage was waiting for us. Unpacked, and met up with the rest of our party to explore, do the muster drill, and then set sail. Princess has an app that you can download on the ship that you can leave messages for one another via this app. Instructions are on a card in your stateroom about this. It was a little tricky to find our friends on the app (had to enter their number on their stateroom card directly to make them come up) but you can use this feature with Princess' wifi and not be charged. I had my phone on airplane mode while onboard, but wifi was on and we used this app for free. This is not the internet package through the ship. We could also call each others room number and leave messages on their in room phone as well, to communicate. We also had a cabin nextdoor to our friends, and our room steward opened the door, per our request, so we could sit on the balcony and visit. Food on the ship was good. Buffet had the typical things, but for those who don't purchase a drink package and bring on your own hydro-flask or cup, you could get coffee, ice tea, and water in the buffet. They also had hot water and a huge variety of tea bags to choose from as well. I like flavored creamer, which isn't offered on the ship, so I just packed a small box of flavored creamer pods in my suitcase and took a couple to breakfast each day. I also brought on my own insulated coffee mug to keep my coffee warm and have a larger coffee cup to walk around the ship with my coffee in the mornings. My husband did purchase the soda package which was reasonable (under $10/per day) so he stayed hydrated via soda or other juices/mocktails, etc. We just purchased our own cocktails and drinks as needed as we couldn't justify the alcohol drink package for how little we drink. I did bring on the allowed 2 bottles of wine for my stateroom though (1 per person) & just asked my steward to bring me some wine glasses. There's a specialty coffee package that was $31 for 15 coffees, which is a good deal if you use all 15 coffees, which our friends bought one to share, but on a 7 day trip and quite a few days on shore, they left a few drinks un-punched on the card, so they didn't get all 15 drinks. I asked the person at the coffee stand if you could use the unused coffee punch card on a different Princess ship/sailing and he said no. So that didn't work in their favor. Now we did end up having lobster on our last formal night in the main dining room and Baked Alaska. That was very pleasant to know that Princess still has the lobster night, as many lines are doing away with lobster night. Some people don't care about this feature, we happen to book with the lines that still do this if the itinerary is what we want. Ship was in decent shape. You can tell it's been used quite a bit. For instance we had a bit of carpet coming up along the edges of our stateroom. No big deal, it has mass amounts of people coming and going, so it's going to look used. But over all the ship still was beautiful and clean. We did not have a mini suite, so no couch in our room and the shower seemed extra small compared to the Celebrity ship we were on last year. The Star shower had a shower curtain that you had to make sure was inside the shower so not to soak your bathroom floor, which I did a few times unexpectedly. The shower also had wall mounted shampoo/cond combo, and body wash, also a small body lotion was provided on the bathroom counter. But the room was well appointed & clean, with a large closet and ample shelving and storage for our 7days. The bathroom this cruise had an overall outhouse smell, so I had brought on a small bathroom spray, which I used to mask that odd smell. I would have liked a counter standing bathroom scent to keep it smelling fresh throughout. But didn't know that we'd need it as I've never had that constant smell in our bathroom on a ship before. My parents were in a mini suite on dolphin deck and they had a full size shower/tub combo and couch area and 2 TVs vs our 1. However their balcony had zero cover on that dolphin level, which left them exposed to above cabins and weather. We had a nice over hang cover on our Lido deck balcony which was nice when it did sprinkle a bit, we could still make use of our balcony. Entertainment was fine. Didn't go to all the shows and didn't make use of the lounges and all the entertainment going on around the ship as we visited with our party more on this trip than go to the shows. They had two comedians back to back, which was odd not to break those up a bit, one was much funnier than the other. The ships in house production show was ok, Celebrity did much better with this. But the Star isn't one of Princess top ships, so expected not to have the top entertainers, and that was just fine. It was worth our time to watch and we were entertained nicely. They did a fine job and we enjoyed going each night that we did. Walking around the ship we did hear other lounges having entertainment, which seemed fun. So there was lots to enjoy on the ship. Didn't do any of Princess' excursions. Did our own in port by renting cars and walking food tours, and finding local breweries. ASTORIA we had great weather, which doesn't always work out. Astoria is a lovely town with a fun river walk and lots of breweries. There was a $7 shuttle to go into the heart of town from the port that you could use as much as needed throughout the day. You aren't in town when you port and there's a good mile+ walk to get into town from port. Which is a nice walk on a clear day, but we opted for the shuttle. SAN FRANSISCO, our highlight was to go under the Golden Gate Bridge. We went under both times in the dark and the bridge isn't lit up on the underside, so our pictures don't do it justice. The ship will go under the bridge depending on tides so the ship will fit under the bridge, we set our alarm clocks for 5am, and we actually went under at 6am. But again, we heard this could vary due to tides and nobody could give me exact times we'd be going under when we asked the night prior. We left port at 10pm. Both were the same experience going under the bridge, less crowded on the top deck in the morning, and very windy both times, more so leaving than coming in. But it could have been foggy just the same, so it was just lucky we had such a good experience with this. Luckily we had no fog or rain, so it was fun. We did Alcatraz on our own (bought tickets a few months early) and ported almost next door to the Alcatraz pier. Walking distance to Pier 39 as well. We did a Little Italy walking food tour on our own, which was SO FUN!!! MONTEREY we rented a car to do the 17-mile drive and see Pebble beach, which was beautiful. We rented through Enterprise which had a shuttle van that picked you up in the pier parking lot. Had to call to find it, as it wasn't there and wasn't marked when we arrived, so we just had to wait. Some friends took an Uber to Carmel by the Sea, and am wondering if that would have been more time and cost efficient instead. But if you stay around the port area, you can easily walk and stay entertained close to the ship as well without going out of the area completely. VICTORIA didn't have Uber, so we walked into the harbor area, which was a bit over a mile I'd guess, and very lovely and an easy walk. We've been to Victoria so didn't need to sight see, just popped into pubs and looked around the harbor area. Now, we left Victoria in the evening so we got back on the ship later, which meant all the shops on the ship were closed and stayed closed until we disembarked. We forgot this tidbit and left about $70 unused OBC because we couldn't use our OBC (except for drinks) in the shops, as I was thinking about getting a sweatshirt or something with our OBC. So keep that in mind if you have any OBC, use it up before the things on board close down and if you depart your port later. Just a reminder, which I knew, but forgot about until it was too late. Disembarkation we opted to carry our own luggage off so we could keep our luggage with us the night before. They wanted us out of our rooms by 8am, so we quickly had breakfast in the buffet and then went and got our luggage and walked right off. Now, we opted to use the Lyft system to get back to the airport. They will not let Uber/Lyft drivers to come right up to the ship like they did dropping us off. You have to walk about 1/4 mile+ to get to the Uber/Lyft area. For my husband and I, that was no big deal. However for my parents who have mobility issues, that wasn't so great. They did it, but it was a struggle for them. Lyft will vary on cost, but it was about $30 for two of us to get to the airport, where the shuttles directly at the port were charging $30 per person to go to the airport. So for the short walk, it was worth it to us to use Lyft (which was consistently cheaper than Uber in Seattle this trip) Overall, this was a very nice cruise and being from the PNW, it was very accessible to us and I'd easily do it again for a fast, cheaper week get away. The seas were calm going south and a tad rougher heading north, but bearable. But that could vary from time to time. The ship was lovely, staff was nice, food was decent. Overall would book again! Wanted something close to home without having to fly and this was the perfect cruise. Just prepping for our cruise on the Crown in January! The weather could not have been better for this time of year. Embarkation was painless and we were on board in less than 15 minutes. Never waited for anything. We met some amazing people, mostly from Seattle! Others we met were great! Thank you for letting my husband tease you on the elevator at 7:30 am on his way to get me coffee. Thank you to the crew for streaming the SEAHAWK game! That was a treat Thursday night. The bus trip in Astoria was just okay. We were very limited on time because the bus was late getting to the terminal. (not the fault of Princess) Whale watching in Monterey was well worth the money. When the crew recommends the little pill packet for $1 BUY IT! Half of the guests were feeding the fish from the back of the boat on a perfectly beautiful day! Only a buck people! Read Less

The Pacific Coast cruise took us to Astoria, OR (quaint town), San Francisco, Monterey (gorgeous) and Victoria (cozy and beautiful). Embarkation went very smoothly. We hired a car to take us to the port, so that made it especially easy. Our cabins were very soundproof - never heard our neighbors OR each other (bathroom was very-well insulated). The staff were attentive and kind and the dining services were REALLY good. Loved the sit-down dinners and I'm glad we chose "Anytime Dining," which really means you can choose which of the two (or three?) main dining rooms you'd like to visit anytime between 7 and 9. You're also given the choice to share a big table (which we loved, even though we are introverts) or to wait a little longer for a private table. We also tried one of the surcharge restaurants (the Crown Grill) and loved the window seating, private table and extra attention (plus amazing steak). I can see why the older crowd would really enjoy a cruise, but I'm not sure I need to do that again. TIPS: * buy heavy-duty hook magnets (the walls have nice wallpaper, but they are covering metal so your magnets will stick almost anywhere). I used those for our coats, my purse, my shower bag, scarf, key card lanyard, jackets, clothes, etc... * buy clip magnets: I used these to keep track of the daily deluge of paperwork (tickets to excursions, the itinerary, the daily calendar of events, etc..). * Don't overpack! You can wear everything at least twice. NOBODY will notice. * Bring good walking shoes for shore excursion days. Bring comfy slip-ons for walking around the cruise ship * BRING YOUR OWN Lanyard to hold your key card. You need your key card every time you get a drink, a mocktail, an espresso, etc... and it's a pain to fish it out of a wallet. Just have it around your neck and be done! * If you have never cruised before, get the BALCONY. I am so glad we did. * Since you can bring one bottle of wine per person, you might consider Skipping the alcohol/all-inclusive packages. They are so expensive and unless you drink like a fish, I can't imagine they are worth it. We got the premium drink package (no alcohol) but half of us only got water anyway, and all of us drank only 1-2 coffees per day. It would have been cheaper to just pay a la carte, or to get that espresso drink punch card. The alcoholic drinks are between $9-12 each and so just get one when you feel like it (or not)! * WIFI is ridiculously expensive, so we skipped it. 1) we checked email in port and the rest of the time we stayed on airplane mode and 2) the ship has an internal wifi that doesn't give you internet, but it does give you the ability to message your co-travelers and also to look over the list of the daily events (and favorite the things you are considering). The daily paper events page shows exactly the same thing in case you don't want to bother with the app. * BRING A WATER BOTTLE and don't use the plastic bottles. You can easily fill your bottle(s) with ice and water up on the 14th floor (where they do buffet anytime dining). We brought two water bottles and then, because we had signed up for an "anything but alcohol" drink package, they also gave us two tumbler-type water containers that really came in handy. * the elevators in the aft (back of ship) don't go down far enough to reach all parts of the ship. I only used them to go UP to the buffet. If I wanted to go down (from our 11th-floor Baja deck), I'd walk to the front elevators, which went to every floor. * The closets on the Star Princess are HUGE. Lots of hangers. My partner and I are in our mid-40s and we were almost the youngest on the entire ship. That's not a problem, of course, just something to know. Some of our older shipmates were dancing and participating in events much more than we were, but overall I did get the sense I was in a retirement community. EVERYONE was friendly and fun and we loved getting to know our table-mates at dinner or those that did the same excursions. The entertainment had good variety, and there was music going on at all times (ochestral trio, latin lounge singers, recorded ballroom dancing, piano player, etc..). We enjoyed the two comedians the most. Overall: A - be prepared to not have internet (and enjoy it!) B - you'll never watch all those movies you downloaded, so don't bother bringing laptop C - ask your server what drinks they recommend. Our mocktail mojitos were amazing! D - people dress up for dinner and they REALLY dress up for the "at sea" days (usually 2 per week, I hear). We wore a dress/suite, but not everyone bothers. You'll be fine no matter what, but you'll feel like you fit in more if you dress up a bit. E - high heels are nice, but not if the ocean waves are rocking the boat! Be prepared to wear flats on those days! Read Less

I have been on many cruise lines and several cruises over the years and unfortunately, this was my first and last Princess cruise. We were celebrating our anniversary as we saw several other couples were and chose this cruise for it being more adult orientated and minimal kids.. this was definitely true. However, we were met with disrespect from staff when trying to engage in the activities we had paid for through their upgraded anniversary package. In the package you get a meal at one of the specialty dining places. Prior to our arrival, we had chosen the location and date of such place. When on the ship, we asked the front desk if they could let us know the time of our dinner, in which we were redirected back to our room to make the phone call to the dining reservation line (this would have been no problem if staff had told us upon arrival to go to the front desk). When calling the line, I was greeted with "I have been trying to get a hold of you" in which neither mine or my husbands phones had missed calls and neither did our stateroom. Thank you kind lady for yelling at me to tell me you have been trying to get a hold of me.. great lie to be told on day one. Next, with our package, you receive a couple's massage. We go up to the spa to book such massage which we are met with a confused look by the staff about such massage and them telling/asking us if it is a 25 minute should massage? So are you trying to low ball us or do you not have any record of us having a massage. We then are informed to check with the front desk staff, again. Head back down, check with front desk, met with confusion, and they call the spa in which says we are good to. So why did you have us go, wait in line for 30 minutes, for that? Thank you, we appreciate it. You also get a complimentary 8x10 photo. We had put a photo from the first night on hold that we both liked. On the last night we went to pick up and use our package to pay for it. We are met with, confusion and hostility by the photography staff as we need to provide the card that indicates we get this photo.. we were never given a card, yes we asked if she could verify in the computer our package in which we were met with another rude no and yelling from staff that we need this card in order to redeem it. I obviously over frustrated by what should be our romantic anniversary get away let the lady know that we don't have this card so therefor it's a waste of money. My family and I (by family I mean the 20+ of us) are avid cruisers. We plan to go on a cruise every other year and they as well as my husband and I, will not be using Princess due to their disrespect, poor customer service, and ultimately, ruining our, what should have been, romantic & relaxing getaway. We were very hopeful because some times cruises are tough with all the kids running around, but I will gladly take the hospitality and kid noises over a Princess cruise again. Read Less

Very disappointed in the food. There are so many choices that it is hard to do them all well. Many nights we did not eat our entrees. Comedy was good and the bands were good but the huge production numbers were embarrassing- so bad and poorly performed. Voices and dancers were off and the shows made no sense. The cruise is good fun if you just know how to have fun. There were no enrichment activities. The daily activities were lacking and seemed to be geared for children. Most troubling- Princess now allows guests in the dining room in jeans, shorts or flip flops and guests can be in the buffet in bathrobes or pajamas. Staff were friendly and helpful for the most part. Crooners Lounge is a lovely spot for evening drinks and music. This itinerary spent too much time in the ports and not enough time at sea. Coffee is bad even in the paid cafe. Read Less

We are a couple in our early 70s who have been on many cruise lines, 6 of our trips on Princess. We are in NJ and when we saw this cruise leaving out of Seattle, it was just the kind of trip we were looking for since we had a visit to Seattle on our bucket list and it is very far away from NJ, it would kill 2 birds, etc. It was a 7 day cruise to North Pacific, most of the ports we had already visited. We picked a mini suite which had the option of Club Class membership for only a small increase in price, we also got free gratuities, onboard $$ and priority embarkation & debarkation. The embarking was a breeze, but it was for everyone once you got to the terminal. DO NOT take Uber or a private car / friend to the Seattle port. You get let off way before the terminal, have to take shuttle to the terminal, drag your own bags to the terminal, etc. Taxis let you right off at the entry and porters retrieve your bags. A lesson for us.Our room was a traditional mini-suite, with extra room & a bathtub. Our Steward, Frederick greeted us with champagne. There were 2 small bottles of wine on the table (part of the Club Class perks, both white, one was supposed to be red, but oh well). Frederick was prompt with freshening the room & taking care of any problems (stuck drain in sink). The main draw of the Club Class was that you would have private dining room with mostly tables for 2 and no waiting for Anytime dining. That did not quite work out. Depending on the time we went, there were no tables available. Donrog (I hope I got that right) was the Maitre d / host for this area. He was wonderful. He ran around and got us in as quickly as possible. He was amazing. He also did "table side" cooking and preparation (it was in one area of the dining room, not really by your table, but he made a great Ceasar salad). The food was mediocre. My lobster tail I received on one of the "formal" nights was gray and small. I was almost afraid to eat it. No taste. When asked if I wanted another--NO! My husband thought one of the perks was hor de hors before dinner, if there were we did not get any notice of them. The other things I noticed were, no farewell celebration with the waving of the napkins and no Captain's cocktail party. We are Platinum members, so you usually get an invitation. All in all, it was a pleasant, but mediocre trip. Star Princess is showing her age. The entertainment, if you can call it that was BAD!! All comedians, mostly the same guy and he was not funny, only one show (that was good). We took one Princess sponsored tour in Monterey. I was sort of a disaster, that turned out nice at the end. It was a trip to Big Sur and then wine tasting, apparently someone did not do their homework and the winery could not accommodate all of the members of the group at once, we were the second group, so we had to wait 30 min before our turn and 30 min after our turn for another group. Needless to say, we were over an hour late to tender back to the ship. We hit rough water and the tender lost an engine and banged into the cruise ship twice before we could safely disembark. It was the most exciting part of our trip!! Later after dinner when when we returned to our room there was a bottle of champagne in an ice bucket as an apology. That was nice! All in all, I would cruise with Princess again, but only on their newer ships, not sure about the Club Class perk. Oh, almost forgot something. Princess and other hotels, there is no such thing as Shampoo & Conditioner in one. Ask any woman. (men don't care.) I will bring my own soap, shampoo & conditioner from now on since many place including our hotel prior to the cruise have pump bottles in the shower, but they had separate shampoo & conditioner. Also, I am not a bath gel person. I want SOAP! Read Less

Let's start with the condition of the vessel. It needs some major repairs to it's plumbing systems as we had personal loss of our toilet multiple times this cruise and saw many leaking ceilings and buckets throughout the ship. Heard stories of cabins flooded and carpet replaced, our friends were relocated along with their neighbors due to repairs to their cabins. However I cannot find fault with the crew of this vessel. Captain Tuvo has a very happy crew, we heard crew people tell of how nice it is to work on board the Star and it showed right to the customers as well. Dinner in Sabatini's was fantastic for both service and food. Anytime dining was great, never having any issues getting a table when we wanted. We tried to get Edwardo and Paul each night as they were so good with service and timing of our meals. The barrel chair was in our caribe cabin and we were thrilled to see it. Air conditioning did not work on our warmest day in San Francisco when jellyfish clogged the cooling system we heard, but in our cabin is was fine. Overall the ship does need some care and we heard it will be dry docked in April to upgrade to medallion. Not sure we would sail her again only due to ship condition but not the crew.....they were a joy. Also enjoyed the smoking lounge Shooters for a cigar and whiskey. I also thought the pools were heated somewhat.....on one day the rear pool was too warm for my taste. Oh yea....this cruise also was to pick their entertainer of the year 2019 so they had four on board to do shows and we voted. The singer Phillip Brown won and he was great. Also even with it's plumbing issues I have to say the public restrooms were some of the cleanest and well cared for we have experienced at sea. Read Less

Our very first cruise and it was amazing! We were with seven other people that had all previously cruised. This was helpful for us as we didn't attend the first time cruisers meeting. I would recommend going to it if you haven't cruised before. There is a lot to know that I'm sure would have been covered at the meeting. I was quite impressed with embarkation and disembarkation at all stops. With the mass of people involved, things moved very quick and efficiently. Our accommodation was a Mini-Suite, very roomy, kept clean and restocked with daily service. The bed was so comfortable. We didn't spend much time in our cabin so are considering a Balcony Stateroom the next time we cruise. The Horizon Court Buffet was very acceptable, with an array of choices, the food being better than average. We chose anytime dining and had dinner in the dining room each evening with our group. The choices were slightly limited but varied enough to satisfy most any one. On three occasions we had the same waiters. They provided us with a dining experience full of wonderful memories.Their service was impeccable, personable and full of fun. The entertainment and activities were plentiful and fun, on the most part very good. We were never without something to do, so many choices. I'm unable to comment on shore excursions because we decided to go it on our own. Our favorite stop was Monterey. We rented a car and ventured off to the Monterey Aquarium. If this sort of thing interests you, I would highly recommend it. Spent a little time on Cannery Row and off we went for a drive down the coast. They have a 17- Mile Drive with an admission fee of about $10. Worth every cent! It takes you along the beautiful coast line from Monterey to Carmel. The scenery was spectacular! It was our favorite time of the entire cruise. We were very disappointed this stop was so short, could have easily spent the whole day or two. We had an excellent experience and will definitely be cruising with Princess again. Read Less

We chose this cruise on the advise of relatives, whom we went on the cruise with. Mistake! So many negatives; bad food, leaking EVERYWHERE, boring shows, mildew smells, just worn out and gross! The carpet was stained and ripped in many areas. The waitstaff seemed kind of uninterested in getting to know us, except for one. Our headwaiter in the Capri dining room, Danje was very nice and knowledgeable. But, most everyone else was kind of rude, actually. I felt like everyone working on board was just going through the motions and trying to just get it over with. We didn't feel welcomed or special. It was more like cattle heading. After the cruise ended, we just wished we had never even gone, that's how bad it was. We couldn't wait to just go home. Next cruise we take, we will do more research. This ship was way past it's prime. Read Less

This was offered as a "Free" cruise. Don't ever let anyone tell you it's "free". There are nonrefundable deposits per person, prepaid gratuities, parking at $27 a day and other expenses to make it a decent cruise, like specialty dining and any drinks you may want, including soda or special coffee. I also paid for water in the cabin. There is also, if you choose, shore excursions, which are extremely expensive ($70 each for a horse drawn carriage ride in Victoria, not worth it) and the casino, which are always tight. This particular cruise was offering a chance to "vote for entertainer (cruise ship) of the year, but because of this they eliminated the production shows that are usually one of the highlights of the entertainment. Next disappointment was the food. I am not much for buffets to begin with, but I can usually find something. There was one night that I actually walked through with a plate and ended up putting it down, empty, because the food was so disgusting. I went out and got a cheeseburger, which was great. The Crown Grill was excellent, but it was a "specialty dining" option at about $25 per person, plus tip. Worth it. The main dining room food was below par. We had ordered the Cornish game hens on our last Princess cruise and they were wonderful. Not this time. They looked like someone had starved them before cooking. Flavor not near the same. Seas were extremely rough and we bounced in our beds and walking on the ship was like being drunk. Topping of all: My sister got very ill 2 days before we were in home port. She had to be taken off in a wheelchair and the next day she was at urgent care. Yesterday, 4 days later, she was in the ER and had to be given fluids. Diagnosis was virus, probably contracted aboard the ship! This is 7 days later and she is still very ill. Spoiled my desire to cruise ever again. Read Less

It was our 25th anniversary and we could not cruise the East coast due to hurricanes so we went West where we had never been. It was great, the staff was wonderful, excursions were good and so relaxing. The ship was nicely taken care of, the activities were well planned. We were fortunate enough to be on the Entertainer of the year cruise and that was great. Gary the cruise director was very good and had many things planned and was very visible. His morning show was very helpful information. Now his partner Chad was not half as friendly as Gary and could use some work in that area. The captain was great and his "bye bye" was iconic and will be something you always remember. The only thing I would state needing better direction were the excursions and their meeting places. Monterey was probably the most confusing just because you got off water taxi and did not know what signs to follow and where to be. Then disembark was a bit confusing filling out the paperwork because it did not have all options. For example we needed to go by taxi and that was not listed and then we did not receive colored luggage tags so I was afraid we weren't getting picked up. I asked my steward and they helped me out. Having the luggage taken care of and sent to the airport was lovely!!! Wonderful cruisr Read Less

I am always puzzled why Princess has no card room, no forward viewing public spaces, and elevators that don't go to all floors. We and other guests were always searching for a spot to play cards, one day we had to relocate 4 times in 2 hours. There was a nice space at the back of the ship that was only open late pms as a nightclub, but several of us found our way to it for reading during the day. Stateroom had a tub that was so badly worn ( finish off in numerous spots), I wouldn't use it, only showered. Rest of bathroom only "ok." PA system was painfully loud, so much so that most guests in public areas covered their ears everytime it came on. However, the staff and food staff were outstanding as usual. My advice is to find your own shore excursions, we did several non ship ones that were excellent and I will review them on viator. Read Less

Princess makes you feel important the entire time your on board. You feel safe and secure knowing that they have your best interests in mind on and off the ship. 5 star service. Huge assortment of food and drink and it’s GOOD food made from someone who cares not from a frozen box. Lobster, great steaks, seafood galore something for everyone guaranteed. Cleanliness is impeccable!! The staterooms were amazing the beds and pillows are straight from heaven you don’t want to leave them in the mornings. You come home rested and feel good, no other accommodation or vacation does that. You feel your money spent on the cruise was a fair trade and and of full value for your experience. I guess the most important vacation for us is knowing your money was well spent. The embarking and disembarking at every stop was smooth and speedy no standing and waiting, ones with children went well and enjoyed all the options available for them on board. Princess covers all the bases, it has the entertainment choices food choices drink choices and they cater to all different age groups and personalities. All the Alaska port of calls were unique and had tons of options for excursions and shopping so everyone had something to do.What’s really special is when the Captain mingles with the passengers throughout the cruise. On board: the room, balcony, was adequate; food also adequate, however, if pastry is your thing you will not find a decent croissant on Princess; flour to fat ratio all wrong. The room attendant was very friendly and helpful. In fact the entire staff was very well trained, helpful and friendly, with the exclusion of one surly female at the spa reception desk. On board lectures limited. Entertainment was enjoyable. Cruise entertainment director energetic, personable, funny and enthusiastic. Ports of Call: time spent in each port was sufficient. However, the ports of call were all geared towards retail sales with tee shirt shops and jewelry stores three to a block. Excursions offered were what one would expect. We choose a rafting trip. However, the waterproof gear given to us was wet and dirty on the INSIDE, even the boots were wet with sand and pebbles inside Not a pleasant experience. This was our second Princess cruise and probably our last. Not because of one bad excursion experience, rather a culmination of the entire Princess Cruise experience. Read Less

Highly recommended. I am a vegetarian. The main dining room options were limited, But once the Head Waiter heard of my dissatisfaction, he jumped in and made sure that I had plenty of wonderful options. Sabitini's specialty restaurant was the BEST. Wish we had some better Movies under the Stars. Bingo was fun, but expensive. Took a trolley car at Ketichkan and did some shopping; Did Mt. Roberts tram in Juneau and did some more shopping; Did the Summit bus in Skagway. All very enjoyable and affordable. Skagway was the cutest downtown with LOTS of shopping!!! We primarily chose Princess because of the ease of sailing with them and the knowledge that we would at least have decent food. Last year we sailed on a competitor's line and my bed was hard and the food was not good. We came back to Princess knowing it might not be one of those huge ships with all the activities but maybe we didn't need all that. It turns out good food and a comfortable bed made me very happy. The Star is not a new ship by any means but the crew on her is just amazing. We just had such a nice time. I can't express how well they took care of us this time. It was above and beyond. We splurged and got a mini-suite and it was such a treat!!! I would highly recommend it if you have the opportunity. It was very, very comfortable. The MDR was very, very good. I only had one dinner that was just ok all week. The food was good. I especially enjoyed all the seafood options. My only bad meal was at the Crown Grill and it was more of a service issue versus the food. We had a 2 1/2 hour dinner that just drug on and on for no reason. I definitely will sail with Princess again many times but I just don't know if I will go back to the Crown Grill. The crew show was a really fun!!!! My grandkids enjoyed the kids club and the pool a lot. All in all it was a lot of fun and we had a great time!!!! Read Less

My wife and I have been to Alaska before and we like Princess Cruise Line, so for our 43rd Anniversary and her 71st birthday, all within the week we were at sea, we decided to go again. This time, we decided to go on the Star Princess and it was an excellent choice. My wife is handicapped and it's very hard for her to walk, and the Princess Cruise Lines associates were very accommodating. They had a special area for people who needed extra help coming on board and nary a word was said by anyone when an associate came up with a wheelchair, we were #28, and pushed my wife up the ramps to the ships. I could not have done it, but they did without complaining and without tip, they refused my tip, explaining it was "their pleasure". As my wife is a "slot addict", we received a discount on the room, which was A750, And what a room it was, right at the top of the ship, next to the pool and a VERY SHORT WALK to the buffet. Anyway, I could go on and on, but this cruise was excellent. We dined in the Crown Grill (extra charge, well worth it), ate Filet Mignon, Surf and Turf and had the Alaskan Samples desert (delicious). The excursions were not what we thought, but that was our decision, not theirs. If you go, make sure you go to the Salmon Bake, and all-you-can-eat buffet of salmon, fresh baked beans and other mouth watering items. Well worth it!! Overall, in all my years of cruising and my wife and I have been on well over 40 cruises, this was the BEST for getting on and off of a ship, believe me.
