We booked a suite (6180) for my husband & me and two rooms (8115 & 8116) for the kids (27, 25 and 23 plus one fiancEe). This is my second cruise with the first being on Royal Caribbean's Radiance of the Seas. We choose to try Carnival due to 1) Royal Caribbean not apologizing for the 2 days of raw sewage smell on our first cruise and 2) the value Carnival offered. Our experiences were almost equal with the scales tipping toward the Legend (probably because smell leaves a lasting impression). The Legend was perfectly maintained. I had packed air deodorizer as I had read that Carnival allows smoking everywhere. Not true. The air was great. We all were totally satisfied with our rooms and the room stewards that tended us. We had late dining because of our late booking. It was a bust (except for the servers and the absolutely fabulous lobster). We were assigned a table right in front of the kitchen entrance that was too hot for coats and ties. We never, ever saw the maitre d' although he did change our assigned table 2 down from where we started after complaining about the heat. Plus we missed the shows because it was bedtime after dinner. So we ate earlier on Lido deck (9th deck) a couple of nights and went to the Golden Fleece one night. Lido deck had a comfortable temperature and the food was always good as soon as you figured out where to go for your favorite. No lines, nice people, if lamb was served in the dinning room, they would have it at the Lido carving station. If a good cut of meat was served in the dining room, they would have steak and baked potatoes up on Lido. Carnival did a better job than Radiance on their every hour food. Radiance did a better job on the evening dining. The Golden Fleece was eh, great service and food presentation but OK food. Never went to one on the Radiance. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves because we did not expect the best yet we were always able to find something good to eat when we wanted to eat. Our 4 kids loved Lido deck. It was hard to talk them into sweating it out on the 3rd deck. We only attended 3 nights of entertainment because of late dining. The comedians were funny. The one with the unicycle was the best. The dirty comic that was scheduled at 7:00pm in front of kids just didn't know what to say. The Broadway dance and song presentation was very impressive. The boys tended to like the card games better (no winnings). All ports were fun. In Grand Cayman we had chartered a deep sea fishing boat but it was canceled because of the high seas and wind. Regrettable but still enjoyed seeing the island with a native islander who had 6 seats still left on his bus. He was fun. He took us to hell and back, served us plenty of rum at the rum cake house because he was friends with the people and could go behind the counter and pass us all sorts of "taste", introduced us to island music that we now have a cd of. Fun fun. In Cozumel 4 of us stuck with the cruise line tour of Tulum. This was amazing. Our tour was by "Sun&Fun" our bus was number 9 and our guide was Berto. Beautiful place, wonderful guide. It was great. The other 2 went on the dune buggy excursion and also had a great time. In Belize we booked ATV riding and cave tubing through cave-tubing.com. Again it was great. Wonderful guides that want you to have a wonderful time. In Roatan we chartered a sailboat - the Calypso Lady - through www.ThingstodoRoatan.com. Lori picked us up and delivered us to Captain Dave who sail us to the west end. We were served a great dip (recipe on their web site), watermelon, pineapple, pita sandwiches and plenty of bloody Marys along the way. We were dropped into a great snorkeling area and then deliver to a beach where Mario picked us up and brought us back to the ship. Another great day. Weather in order was cold, windy and sunny, sunny, drizzling rain then overcast, overcast then sun, overcast then rain, and cold. It was our first time cruising through 10-15 foot seas. I enjoyed it even though it made us a little late getting home. All in all, I could take this same cruise again. We all had a wonderful time. Improvements that we would like: 1) Room announcements have been curtained due to the complaints of those that want to sleep during the day. By the time you recognize the sound coming from the hall way and open the door to listen, the announcement is over. I think there was a captain on board, I think there was a cruise director -- I saw them on TV. In my opinion, Carnival needs to let at a minimum - the Captains announcements come through. 2) If you book a suite and 2 rooms, the maitre d' should make sure you have a nice table in the dining room. (VIP status only helps get you on and off the ship quicker.) 3) Rolls should be served warm in the dining room. Second dining should not taste like it was prepared for the first. 4) I loved the "loving cups" served after dinner on Royal Caribbean. Missed that with Carnival. They missed the revenues. Maybe an extra bar server would be the key. Maybe they tried and didn't have enough sales. 5) Design of the dining room was like a breakfast restaurant. I'm sure they are doing better with their designs now but this ship is stuck with what they have. I missed the guitar and violin that Royal Caribbean provided at every dinner. I sure miss pushing the 9th floor elevator button, breakfast room service, having my bed made up and down, little towel animals and the smell of the ocean. I do enjoy seeing my dog again. Read Less

Third Carnival cruise...first two were on the Paradise and the Glory, so I pretty much knew what to expect. I was not crazy about the decor on the Legend...all those urns! However, it was well maintained and the crew were always out scrubbing, polishing etc. Embarkation was okay once it got moving but debarkation was a bit of a mess...no one really directing people and people were cutting in line and getting off before their specified times, not waiting in the designated areas etc. so that was a bit annoying. Food was still the old menu....since some ships have switched over...so some things were very good and others not as much, but I managed to find plenty that I liked. The steakhouse however is amazing. The portions are huge and the steaks are delicious. If you make a reservation the first night you will get a complimentary bottle of wine. For only 35 dollars you get a nice appetizer, a salad, a large entree with sides and a spectacular dessert. A real steal. Our balcony room was nice and large..plenty of storage for clothes and also plenty of shelves in the bathroom. The shows were pretty good...you have to give those dancers a lot of credit for learning and synchronizing all of the different routines. Every member of the crew was polite and friendly. Our shore excursions were mostly sightseeing. Once again, some were better than others. All in all we had a very pleasant experience. The only downside was listening to other passengers complaining and finding fault constantly. If that is all you are going to do I can't imagine how you could possibly enjoy yourself. Read Less

This was our 2nd cruise, 1st on Carnival though. -Overall, we had a great time on our vacation-we had amazing weather, slept comfortably and thoroughly enjoyed this itinerary. -We were in stateroom 8220 and enjoyed our room. This is an extended balcony-note it's just before the "bump" so you cannot see a view when trying to look forward but you can see plenty straight out and looking aft. I loved having a balcony to sit out on. The downfall is smokers-their ashes end up all over the balcony and if you have loud neighbors...you can pretty much plan on being part of their conversation. We heard little Lido Deck noise at night or early AM when sleeping. The only noise we heard from the Lido deck was mid afternoon-I believe the buffet area near the deli line was right above us. it amazes me how many people slam let their balcony and stateroom doors slam-again and again and again...that was the only noise that bothered us. "All the good stuff": -Our bed was surprisingly comfortable and room didn't feel small-lots of storage and closet space. -Willie the CD and Mike the ACD were really nice- we met them during our meet up. -Attending the meet up was great-we met many people that we ran into the remainder of the cruise and enjoyed conversing with them. -Piano bar- TC was a lot of fun! I recommend visiting the piano bar one night. We went 3x and laughed quite a bit. Muriel was the BEST bartender and seemed to be well loved by everyone. -Steakhouse- best steak I've had. Delicious! The environment was pretty and staff were attentive but it was slow. more on this in the "wish it was better" notes below. -Serenity Pool- really great. we spent a lot of time here...by the end of the week it became challenging to find a chair though. -Spa- had the top to toe treatment and it was wonderful. If you need a little getaway from your smallish stateroom- visit the spa area to use the steam room, sauna, whirlpool and the large showers;) -FTTF-tender priority and guest services priority were worth the $50 upcharge -Dining room food- we weren't fans of the dining room on previous cruise and thought we'd frequent the buffet but were pleasantly surprised that we really enjoyed the food at Truffles. Try the Strawberry Bisque! Also, the bread pudding (bitter and blanc, I think it was called) was the best dessert I've had in ages! -Martinis at any bar were delicious. -The chicken tenders, pizza, and deli were always delicious. -we didn't mind the décor- the layout of ship was great-easy to navigate and we felt it was the perfect sized ship. -Staff were all very pleasant. "Wish it were better": -We purchase FTTF and planned for our cabin to be ready. Fog delayed the arrival and therefore our departure. While our room WAS ready-it wasn't clean or set up to a king bed. There was dust everywhere, smudgy and drink ringed table and greasy prints all on the glass balcony door. The balcony was nasty with ashes too. I realize that such a quick turnaround to clean with passengers staying longer in rooms didn't allow for lots of time but...it was a disappointing start. The cleanliness issue was resolved the next morning and our steward was a nice enough guy. In the meantime, I Clorox wiped it all and began my vacation! -The sun "beds" at serenity deck-it was ridiculous with people saving them and bouncing back and forth between their reserved chairs and covered bed to prevent the staff from putting the "loungers cannot be saved" stickers. -If it's windy while at sea- be prepared to be sprayed with cold water while laying in center of the Serenity deck...water from the water slides was spraying us---brrrr! -Casino...ugh with the smoke...the casino is so small it felt even smokier than the local casinos near home. -Other than the buffet items noted above, I found the quality of buffet food,(all meals) temperature and flavor to be inconsistent. -Steakhouse- while the steak was phenomenal- I found the side dishes to be lacking and service was very drawn out- it took 2 hours for 2 of us. -the Lido deck was not appealing to me at all when there was an "entertainment team member" up there with a Mic...She was obnoxious. The DJ's at Lido deck were good though. -coffee---yuck. All I can say. ( I tried the upcharge coffee bar to get a caffeine fix) -We found entertainment options to be lacking. Not much interested us- we saw the hypnotist and variety show and some singers/bands. Nothing was appealing. I wished there was more dance parties, live music on deck. PORTS: Cozumel- it was ok. We went to Mr. Sanchos, (booked directly with them) which was nice but I think we'd choose something else next time. Taxis from the terminal were easy to use. Belize- we were very disappointed that Carnival cancelled our excursion (Sharks and Rays) due to lack of interest. I would have preferred to book privately but none of the vendors would book Carnival due to our arrival time. We elected to stay on the boat and it was awesome to have a quiet day with drinks and books by the Serenity pool. I heard from many that the tender process in Belize was not enjoyable so we made the best of our day on ship. Roatan- we just walked off the ship to the private beach area. We loved it here-it was beautiful. The drinks and snacks from Fat Tuesday's were costly but we enjoyed them. Free WiFi was a bonus as well. Grand Cayman- this was our favorite port. We booked privately for Stingray City with Moby Dick Tours (who cancelled b/c they said it's not worth it for only 4 bookings). Moby Dick tours called another rep at the terminal and they helped us connect. This is how we ended up with Eco Cayman Adventures...who were FANTASTIC. We loved this excursion and the experience with the rays. We had incredible weather each day and enjoyed our vacation thoroughly. We would definitely consider cruising with Carnival again.   Read Less

We were 2 ladies on the cruise to celebrate a 70th birthday. I previously sailed Carnival twice in the Mediterranean and Princess in Alaska. Embarkation was a nightmare. The ship was coming out of dry dock and supposedly there were immigration issues getting all the workers off the ship. We didn't board til after 3. They ended up giving a everyone a $15 OBC to spend on lunch. I was already in the terminal and checked in by 11a.m, but I heard stories from people standing on lines outside for hours. The crew I encountered were all friendly and happy. We had anytime dining, and never waited on line more than 5 or 10 minutes. I thought the food was very good. One night I didn't like the breaded shrimp, sent it back and got some very good mahi. I did eat fish 4 nights and liked it all. On the birthday, we went to the steakhouse and in was amazingly good. I had the NY strip, my friend had the filet. Definitely worth the extra cost. I lived in New York and Chicago, so I've been to good steak houses before and this was right up there. Cabin steward Sudana was attentive and friendly. My two complaints about the ship were the too smokey casino and the not very clean windows. Otherwise, I liked it. It really never felt crowded, except for the Serenity deck on sea days, (Expected) and was easy to navigate. The water slide wasn't working til later in the trip and if I had children with me I would not have been happy about that. The ports: we don't do water sports, so we took tours. I enjoyed Cozumel and Grand Cayman. Belize and Roatan would not be on my list of must-sees. The weather was perfect, the people and crew were friendly and overall we had a wonderful time. We were delayed several hours disembarking because of fog, but they had warned up about that possibility the night before. I thought Carnival handled it very well. We didn't have to leave our cabins, they served some lunch avid once they called our group, it went very smoothly. Read Less

Despite the problems with the ship, this cruise was great. It was our second time on the Legend, we specifically went on this one because our kids requested it. They had so much fun the last time, they asked for it by name. Ship-it is a bit outdated, and in my opinion, very dark. It is kept very clean. It is big enough, and has enough activities for everyone. LOTS of kids and kids' activities. Food-definitely not all that great, with the exception of their steak house, which has a $35 up charge pp and is totally worth it! It was the same food everyday at the buffet and quite bland. Hamburgers were overcooked, pizza was tasteless. The dinners were much to be desired. Casino-they have auto shufflers at the tables, which makes the house have a greater edge. Never had a problem getting a seat, and they had lots of open slots (though I don't play them). Getting a drink was slow, easier to just get up and go to the bar. And you can request a table remain non-smoking if you sit down before a smoker gets there. Their Serenity, adults only retreat was awesome. Very large w/lots of seating, and convenient to get to. Service was great, too. Staff-best part of the cruise. Every single person was pleasant and helpful. They genuinely love their jobs. We had an issue where one of our kids got busy w/her new friends and did not report in on time. We notified the front desk and they had security called immediately. Took it very seriously and helped find her (in the magic show) quickly. Many staffers get to know you and call you by your first name, which is a nice personal touch. The staff in the steak house were fabulous. I would have liked to have had more updates on the engine problems, but was satisfied w/the compensation. I have already booked our next cruise, which we receive at 50% discount. In addition to the $400 credit, they also credited port charges for missed ports. Looking forward to returning to Carnival. My husband and I took our first cruise on the Carnival Legend on 3/3/13. It was an extremely enjoyable vacation for us and we met lots of new friends while onboard. The food was very enjoyable in the dining room, we had no complaints. The Lido Deck Buffet was good,a pretty good assortment of food so that no one went hungry. Our room steward Mart was wonderful, our room was cleaned spotless twice a day. Luh Luh and Wesly in Truffles Dining room were wonderful servers and so much fun to be around. We disliked the decor of the ship, it was way overdone with all the urn's everywhere on the ship. That is really our only complaint about our cruise. We chose this cruise because it had 4 ports of call. We enjoyed each one and had an excursion planned for each. I'll list them in more detail below. Cozumel: We arrived in port and was ferried over to Playa Del Carmen to begin our Mayan Ruins of Tulum tour. We booked through Carnival simply because it is a 7 hour tour including the transportation to and from the ship. The ruins and the beach were so beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Tulum. There are shops at the ruins, but they are pretty overpriced although the food we had was pretty good. Belize: We booked our excursion through cavetubing.bz because of the high reviews they have on cruise critic and also Trip Advisor. Our tour guide Gerson was very easy to find outside of terminal and made us feel right at home as we got our group together. Vitalino actually met us all before we took off, we was impressed that he would take the time to do this! We took off towards the caves in an air conditioned van and enjoyed seeing the beautiful mountains on our way there. Our other tour guide Axel kept everyone interested on the way there by telling us all about Belize, the culture and cave tubing. We all had our own tubes that were linked together and enjoyed the float through several different caves. It was simply amazing to be in a real rainforest and to see the splendor of the caves. Our guides offered several times to take pictures of us with out OWN cameras. Afterwards we went to Vitalino's place and was given a decent sized lunch of chicken, rice and rum punch. Vitalino met us all there as well and we shook his hand and really thanked him for such wonderful guides and a wonderful tour. He is a very humble man, we highly recomend his tour! Roatan: We booked this excursion through Carnival and chose the Zip Line and Tabyana Beach Break. We enjoyed the zip lining, although when you book with Carnival, there is always a HUGE group with you. Pretty disapointing as we had to wait quite awhile to zip line. The view from the top was beautiful and then the beach break was also beautiful. My husband and I enjoyed snorkeling off the beach in the coral reef. We saw lots of fish and beautiful coral. Grand Cayman: We booked this excursion with Soto's Cruises because they was highly recomended on TripAdvisor as well. We met up with Kerry at the port and then waited awhiel for the rest of group, only 10 of us, we LOVE the smaller ours because you get much more of a personal experience! She took us back to her place where we paid and boarded the boat. We rode out to Stingray City where we was given instructions on how to be cautious with the stingrays. We felt safe the entire time and our guides were in the water with us the entire time. It was an amazing site to see all of the stingrays circling us waiting for a food handout. Our guides took pictures of us with our OWN cameras and got pictures of us kissing and holding the stingray. We was there approximately 35 minutes. We then headed a little further out to Coral Gardens and jumped in to go snorkeling. The water was 8 - 10 feet deep and Amazingly beautiful!! This was by far our favorite excursion. We definitly want to return to Grand Cayman again and definitly are adicted to cruising!! I hope this review helps you with your trip planning! Read Less
