A BULLET POINT REVIEW OF OUR ADVENTURE OF THE SEAS CRUISE OCTOBER 7-20, 2019 • Overall we would give this ship a 4 out of 5 rating. • Ports were Quebec City, Prince Edward Island, Sydney, Halifax, Bar Harbor, Portland, Saint John, Boston and Port Canaveral. Disembark was in Ft. Lauderdale. Due to strong winds and choppy seas, we had to bypass Halifax. • Embarkation was a breeze, once we got to the terminal. The Seapass we printed out worked for purchases on the ship until we got to our cabin and picked up the key card. • Our cabin steward was Corina and she was truly awesome! • Adventure of the Seas is a beautiful ship and accommodates about 3,000 passengers. We have sailed it before, in 2008, but it was refurbished not too long ago. • The food on the ship is very good. Some people will complain that there was little variety, but they must not have paid attention. Every night was a theme night in the Windjammer buffet that featured food from other cultures. There was also basic food that you could get every day. If you enjoy breakfast, the Windjammer was an awesome spot to eat because we could get almost whatever we liked. Their pastries and baked goods were really good. There was ice cream every night and a soft serve yogurt machine available all day. • Internet was very good most of the cruise. We got the single device package and traded off. No sense buying two packages when one will do. • Overall the service on the ship was terrific! Bar service in the MDR was really bad, though. This seems to happen a lot. • We encountered 3 major storms. As mentioned, we had to bypass Halifax and had to leave Boston early due to storms. We also had a major storm going in to Port Canaveral. We were able to cancel our planned excursion and get a refund. • You may have heard about the passenger that had a stroke and had to be medevac’d. That was our ship and the storm made it more difficult. • We only had to tender at Bar Harbor and that went pretty well. We also had to pass through customs twice and that went quite swiftly. • One minor complaint is the slowness of the elevators. Sometimes they would pass us by several times before stopping and often they were full. It really didn’t help that one of the 4 elevators was out of service often. • By far, our favorite bar was the Duck&Dog Pub. They had the best bartenders and servers. It is also close to food and entertainment. We also liked the Pool Bar, but it was a bit out of our way, and the weather generally didn’t lend itself to spending much time there. • Speaking of entertainment, we didn’t go to many of the stage shows. The magician was really good and the ice show is always worth going to. For the ice show, you no longer need to stand in line to get tickets. Now you need to stand in line before the show. First Come, first served. The Top Tier Event was a waste of time. The house band, Mega 4 was very good and we often planned what we were going to do based on when and where they were playing. We weren’t very impressed with the pianist in the Schooner bar, but seem to be in the minority as he had quite a following. We also didn’t like the bar service in Schooner, which is something I never thought would happen. Others mentioned specific bar tenders that were really good, so maybe we just had bad luck the times we were there. • Disembarking was fast and easy. Since we had already gone through customs in Boston, we did not have to do it in Ft. Lauderdale. Very hot and humid day. Plenty of taxis available, but we managed to get the last two seats on the airport shuttle. Much cheaper. We did curb side check in at the airport and I highly recommend this as the check in lines inside were very long. Read Less

We have previously traveled with Aussie friends we met years ago on a Voyageur of the Seas cruise in NZ, so when they said they'd booked this cruise, we jumped at the chance to join them. We had never been on Adventure of the Seas but like the size of Voyageur and Radiance, so thought it would be a good fit. First, the cabin. We usually book Junior Suites, with an occasional splurge on a Grand Suite. We were in 1350 on the 10th deck. This was a junior suite but we could not believe the size and layout! It had a walk in closet and a full bathtub, more like a Grand Suite on other ships. There were so many shelves and drawers that many were empty, even though we were in the middle of a 3 week trip and had a lot of stuff. We ate in Chops the first night and were disappointed there is no more Caesar salad prep at the table and they have eliminated one of my favourite items, the flavoured butter. This sounds like a small thing, but the seedy Dijon mustard butter was a huge thing with us. we now make it at home all the time, though. They no longer present the bread basket, just place it on the table. Another small thing, but one of the little touches we looked forward to in the specialty restaurants. We were in Giovanni's the second night and it was excellent food and service. Given the number of stops on the itinerary and our non-stellar experiences as the specialty restaurants, we ate in the main dining room for the remainder of the cruise. We enjoyed the food and the service was great (my husband and one of our friends had a wonderful bowl of berries for dessert every night despite it not being on the menu). Our only negative is the lack of change in the dining room menu. There are a lot of repeats. It would also be fun to have regional foods added in on certain shore days. For example, the lobster night in Maine, a tourtiere in Quebec City... We ate breakfasts and lunches in the Windjammer and enjoyed the variety. Note that although they keep most of the supplies for bagels and lox on view, they often hide the salmon. Just ask for it. We didn't bother with the shows. We have been on so many cruises that we enjoy our little nighttime stroll around the ship and then an early bed! We did a sushi class and had a fun time but really miss the history lectures etc. that seem to have disappeared from the ship's schedule. Now to the hurricane! Dorian bore down upon the East Coast as we were leaving New York City. RC did a good job of sending updates on changes in plans. We left a couple of hours late. The next morning, a sea day, we were surprised to find we could still see Manhattan! The captain took his time and circled to let the storm pass and it worked. We had some rain on the day we should have been in Bar Harbor, but after that the weather was fine and the seas were smooth. We saw evidence of damage in Halifax and Charlottetown, so are grateful we trailed the storm! Read Less

We traveled with a group of 12 people ranging from 24-84 years old. Frequent cruisers, prefer Royal Caribbean but have been on Disney, Norwegian, Carnival, Princess, and Celebrity. We choose this trip based on departure port as well as the new private island. Embarkation was a very smooth process, took a maximum of 15 minutes. We purchased the Ultimate Drink Package before boarding and immediately went to the bars once we boarded the ship. The Windjammer, Cafe Promenade, and small buffet tables of hamburgers/hotdogs were setup to distribute crowds. The ship was clean, hand sanitizer and “washy washy” stations are placed throughout. Although the Adventure does show a bit of wear and tear from the years at sea, it is a fantastic ship! We loved the Duck & Dog Pub on the promenade, live music a majority of the nights. The singer Jess was awesome! You must also visit Andre at the Champagne bar, his Coconut Chocolate Martini was the best. We were able to organize My Time Dining for the same time/table each night, keeping the same waiters (Narciso and Ajay). You are only able to reserve space for 10 people online with Royal Caribbean cruise planner, we spoke with the dining room staff when boarded and they accommodated our party with no problems. They had a variety of foods each night and were able to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters at our table. We didn’t have the best weather - 3 of 8 days were rainy. 2 Sea Days and Bermuda. Activities were added during the rainy sea days, Royal tried to keep everyone happy despite the weather. We have traveled to Bermuda before, but still disappointed not to be able to get to Horseshoe Bay. We have traveled to Nassau NUMEROUS times, we remained on the ship this day in order to enjoy the nice weather and pool deck! If you can, stay on the ship during a port day to do the water slides, we had no wait and were able to ride 5+ times. PERFECT DAY AT COCO CAY was just as the name says! IT WAS AMAZING! The ship was able to add an additional hour to our port time and we enjoyed every minute of it. Did the Zipline (additional charge), Thrill Waterpark (additional charge), and Oasis Lagoon (included). Take advantage of all the island has to offer, it really is a perfect day!!! Debarkation was just as smooth, we had a great trip and cannot wait for our next cruise! Read Less

We recently returned from the 6 day Canada & New England Cruise (7/20/19- 7/26/19). We are in our late 40's with a teenage daughter. This was our 2nd time on the Adventure of the Seas (we had been on the ship in 2003), we've also sailed the Liberty of the Seas (2010) and Anthem of the Seas (2018), and this was our first Canadian/NE cruise. For perspective, we've also cruised on HAL, Celebrity and NCL. We spent a few days in NYC prior to the cruise, and we hired a car to take us to Bayonne. Traffic on a Saturday morning was relatively light (and our driver stopped in Jersey City where we bought two bottles of wine). The entire drive from Chinatown to the port (including the 10 minute stop at the liquor store) was 45-55 minutes. It took us maybe 20 minutes from the time we arrived at the port (11 am) to board (and getting off the ship yesterday was almost as fast). On embarkation day it seems the Windjammer is always crazy busy and this time was no different, we just skipped lunch rather than fight the crowds. We left Bayonne at the height of a heatwave (temps on 6/20 in NYC were in the upper 90's), I had been reading the CC messages boards trying to figure out how cold it would be on this cruise - turns out there was only one day where I needed a sweatshirt or sweater (temps in the mid 60's), all the other days on this cruise were in the low to mid 70's (which for me is t-shirt weather). We had (very light) rain for part of two days so a raincoat was a good thing to have. There was one formal night (second night of the cruise). Most of the other passengers were relatively casually dressed (we saw very few tuxedos), most ladies in sun dresses, and men in button down shirts (a few, but not many, in sport coats). We booked a corner Aft balcony (1388) on Deck 10 (the corner balcony rooms with extra room in both the cabin and balcony and the pole in the middle of the cabin). We were right under the Windjammer, and although I was nervous about noise from the Windjammer, it was minimal (I heard it once, my husband reported hearing some foot traffic a few times). The room was HUGE (compared to the size of a standard balcony room). Our teenage daughter slept on the pull out couch, and even with her bed made up there was lots of room for all 3 of us. The (very small) downside was that while on the balcony I could always hear the music from the Flow Rider (Deck 12?), and sometimes we could feel the engines. Even with those small issues we'd gladly book this room again. Our room steward (Omega) was fantastic. We were traveling with extended family (9 of us total), and we had chosen the My Time Dining Option. We found out that seating for 9 on the My Time Dining was available at 5:30 or 8PM (only) which was a letdown as we had been hoping to eat around 6:30. My husband and I purchased the Classic Soda Package - there are two of the Freestyle Coke machines in the Windjammer and two more on Deck 5 (on the Promenade). One of the two machines (port side) in the Windjammer was broken all week - on the port days, only the aft side of the Windjammer was open (and the Windjammer bar was closed) so no soda was available in the Windjammer those days. Normally that wasn't a big deal for me, but I had broken my ankle 2 weeks before the cruise and thus walking was a bit of an issue. Food in the MDR was hit or miss - the prime rib was great whereas the fish of the day was a letdown as was the pasta carbonara (no biggie, just ask the waiter for something else and they gladly bring it to you). I requested an extra side of vegetables each night (and by the end of the cruise all my table mates did the same as the vegetables were all cooked perfectly). We ate dinner at Giovanni's one evening and we thought it would be similar to Jamie's Table (on the Anthem). Although our waiter in Giovanni's was great, the food wasn't anywhere near as good as the food we had at Jamie's (on the Anthem) in 2018. The Windjammer closed at 9am each night, so if you're looking for anything to eat after that time you need to either go to the 5th floor (Cafe Promenade - free) or order room service ($7.95). There is also a Ben & Jerry's ice cream station on Deck 5 (for an extra fee). The other cruisers seemed to be mostly extended families, along with a fair number of senior citizens. It was a full ship (Windjammer packed at breakfast & lunch on sea days) and oftentimes it was challenging to find somewhere to sit. We ordered room service twice, there is a flat $7.95 fee for room service (apart from breakfast, where there is no charge for muffins, pastries etc), it took about 45 minutes each time (food was great on both occasions). With my broken ankle I didn't go into any ports. Several members of our party went rock climbing in Bar Harbor and had an amazing time (not a RCL excursion, we found the company on Trip Advisor), my in laws took a tour in Bar Harbor and had a nice time. Of the three ports (Bar Harbor, St. John & Halifax) my husband liked Bar Harbor the best (he described it as a nice quaint town, he and my daughter enjoyed walking around it after their rock climbing tour). Many members of our group rode on the FlowRider on several days, the FlowRider staff were great and were happy to help the beginners as well as those in our group who had done it before. It was open several times a day (every day), there was also an option to rent it for $345 per hour (and with an instructor was around $500 per hour). We had lunch in Johnny Rockets on the last day ($7.95 per person, milkshakes/malts were extra). We didn't go to any shows, the spa or the gym. We went to the trivia games on several days - they are POPULAR - if you are into trivia, I'd suggest you get there 15-20 minutes early to get a seat. Overall this was a very nice cruise. The ship is a little older but it was very clean, and each and every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful. For the cost of the cruise I felt it provided a good value (but the crowds got to me so I think next time I'll pay more for an upscale cruise line for a less crowded experience). Read Less

We were celebrating my son's high school graduation, my birthday, and my cousin's birthday. There were twelve of us. Three of us had balconies and my sister and her family had a junior suite. I really have no allegiance to any particular cruise line. This was my eighth cruise and I have not been on the same ship more than once. I tend to cruise every other year. I am a school teacher so my time to cruise is normally in the summer. I was originally going had plans of flying into Islip Thursday, spend the night at my mother's and then take a car service to the port. We were scheduled to take the 6:40 PM on Frontier from RDU into Islip. We got to the airport almost three hours ahead only to find out that there were storms and our flight was cancelled. Make a long story short, we ended up driving and spending the night in Baltimore. We stayed at the Radisson Inner Harbor Hotel, we arrive at almost 1:00am. It was a great hotel and we were perfectly happy. We ended up driving to the port Friday morning. No traffic until we got almost to the port. We paid the $22/day. I would consider doing this again, even if it was not my first choice. If we do fly, we would definitely fly two days ahead of time. I am so glad that we were not still living in Phoenix or we would have might had a problem. We always have travel insurance though. We did Horseshoe Bay while in Bermuda. We have been there several times before. Several of us purchased the two loungers and umbrellas for $50. It is crowded and on other occasions we walked to the far left of the umbrella stands and it is less crowded. However, my mom has mobility issues so we didn't do much walking. Leaving Bermuda, we did have a medical evacuation and ended up returning to the dock. We weren't even that far away from the dock, so we did not lose that much time. My son and I purchased the Atlantis beach day through Atlantis. The dig was nice but I don't know if I would go back. The beach was just okay. My sister and cousin and their respective families went to Cable Beach and rented jet skis and had a great time. My parents stayed on the ship. I had never been to Atlantis so I wanted to at least go but it is more of been there done that. Cocoa Cay was all of what Royal Caribbean said it was be. I had booked the hot air balloon excursion prior to the cruise. Unfortunately, due to weather restrictions, it did not happen. It did not hinder my enjoyment while we were there. My sister and her family as well as my cousin and hers, did ziplining. My son, sister, and cousin also did the half day pass for the water park. They stated that it was good except lines on the big slide were crazy and four of the seven people had received burns due to the lack of water on the slide! We did let the cruise director know when we returned to the ship. It felt that they did not have enough water running down the slide. If you have mobility issues, they had many trams and personnel to assist those who needed it. I really wish they would increase the amount of time that we were there. We did have an extra hour there, but it would have been nice to have more. The WindJammer's set up is not the best. There are other cruise lines that have a better set up. Some ships have a barbecue section, pizza section, etc... However, the flow on this ship did not really flow well. One big line to get food. The quality of the food was not terrible at the WindJammer but not the best either. Most days, we ate breakfast and dinner in the main dining room. We had early seating, which sometimes was sometimes a bit too early but most of us thought the later time was a bit too late. Since we had twelve people, we decided a fixed time would be easier. Prior to the cruise I had reached out to Royal Cruise dining department and requested a table for twelve. They sent me an email with the dining table confirming a table of twelve. As you can guess, we got on the ship, none of us were sitting together. We went to the head waiter on the 4th floor and showed him the email with the copy of the table assignments. He wrote cabin numbers and tables and said he would change and contact our cabins. At the time of our seating, we decided to go to 5th floor dining room since the majority of us were on the fifth floor. The head waiter on that floor was very nice and accommodating. She joined a table of eight and four and put them together. Which actually worked well, we put the adults in one table and the kids at another. Food was much better in the main dining room than the Wind Jammer. Our waiter Manuel and assistant waiter Shadrul were excellent. They were probably one of the best waiters we have had on a cruise. They were both very attentive and went out of their ways every night to make sure we are happy. Five of us did Chops one night. Food and service were very good. Our waiter James was interesting to say the least. Not sure if it was an act or Tourette’s but he did a very good job. He certainly was very amusing. The shows were okay. We enjoyed the acapella group, the juggler and the last comedian. The final show was pretty good. We did not go to the ice show. I heard that the first comedian was not that great but we did not attend. Due to the craziness of the first day and the late night before, we did not go the welcome show. I do know that the most of the group did go to the piano bar the first night and said he was pretty good. Battle of the Sexes and Quest were fun to do. We did have children ranging from age 10 - 18. However, they did not use the kids program. The pool area was very crowded and chair hogs were in abundance. Even at 7:00am it was hard to find a chair. However, I did notice that they were taking items from chairs that were not being used and placing them at the foot of the chair. The solarium area was much more quieter. My son who had turned 18 in April, was happy about being able to use it. Overall, we all thought the ship was very nice. She may be an older ship but she is in great shape. They were consistently disinfecting and cleaning the ship. There were many places that were not crowded. They did make many announcements of not depositing anything other than toilet paper in the toilet. I heard later that there several issues with toilets. I did smell septic by the elevators on deck 7. I think there are pluses and minuses to all ships. As stated before, I have not been on any ship more than once. I have enjoyed all of them. I think Carnival's Lido area definitely has a better layout. I would sail them again, only if I could get the rest of my family to do it. Read Less

We chose this ship because of the destinations and the activities on board for young adults and children. The ship did not disappoint with regards to on board activities and ease of access to destinations. We were also pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and service in the main dining room, as well as the décor of the ship. We were pleased, having been on Norweigan and Carnival ships of similar size that there seemed to be more pool space available to everyone, and also no fighting over chairs around the pool. The entertainment at night was good, but the comedians and the illusionist, as well as the juggler were all good. I especially liked the adults only comedy shows. I also found entertainment in the Imperial Lounge to be fun and family oriented. The only thing that I wish was better was the size of the cabins. We had 2 balcony cabins for family, and it seemed cramped, with not enough drawer or closet space compared to other balcony cabins on other ships. The shower was very small, and water temperature was an issue. The fitness center had plenty of equipment. Read Less

We loved the Adventure. RC staff is always excellent and this ship was no different. The food was probably the best we’ve ever had on RC. On this cruise we opted to allow RC to choose our balcony cabin and were pleasantly rewarded. We were assigned aft balcony cabin 6688, and did we ever luck out. It was quiet since there was very little hall traffic. The best part was the bigger than usual balcony. Our friends’ port side balcony barely had room for two chairs and a tiny table. Ours had the same two chairs and table but additionally had two loungers and a second table. Even with an obstructed view, it was great! The biggest negatives of the cruise were 2 shore excursions. One was the Bay of Fundy Bucket List tour. The excursion was 5 hours long and we were probably on a bus 3.5 hours. The places we visited we not worth the hours spent on the bus to get there. The second excursion was the Peggy’s Cove and fishing village trip. Again the time spent on the bus was an hour each way and the time at the actual destination was too short. It would be nice if the excursions’ descriptions would mention the amount of time spent on the bus. Read Less

Just came back from an 8 day cruise to the Bahamas, Bermuda and Coco Cay. The main dining room had fantastic food, our servers were great, no issue. Our stateroom attendant was great too. The majority of the cruise ships were friendly. The imperial lounge had 1 female bartender that I felt need to go to training again.. one of the most nasty bartender I ever met. The rest of the bartenders at the Schooner bar and everyplace else was great. I went to every activity from the sushi making class, to the wine tasting, which was great. I also took the bottom brunch galley tour. I took one in the past and I was really disappointed. It was a brief tour. You don't go to the refrigerator area, or bridge, or the laundry area.. If I knew it was this brief I would not take it. I would rather see more of the ship than have brunch at the end of the tour. Also another issue I had is I prepaid for all of my spa treatment for me and family but for some reason I was still charged for the treatment. If you are going to the spa, make sure you are not charged again for any prepaid treatment. this happen several times for me. Overall it was a great trip for me and my family. It was memorable. We chose this cruise because we loved the ports and wanted to drive to Cape Liberty to avoid flying. Embarking and disembarking was fast and easy. Our inside cabin was tiny, only 150 square feet, but we were only in it to sleep, so we made do. Our son is 15, and he made friends the first night onboard, but the teens had to find stuff to do on their own, since activities were lacking. They gave the kids a dance party, but scheduled it for 2pm one day? No one showed up of course, LOL! Do NOT waste your money on the VOOM internet package. We had bought the most expensive surf and stream option and it was HORRIBLE! Royal should be ashamed to market it as being fast! We would send one text or email and it would take eight hours to go through, if at all. The line to complain at the VOOM table was consistently long the entire week. every single person that I met on the cruise was furious about the internet not working. If you are considering the soda package, please know that the Coke Freestyle machines are only in the royal Promenade and in the Windjammer, so if the Windjammer is closed, you have no access to the machine. Also, the machines were down or out of certain drinks quite frequently. You may bring one case of soda per stateroom on board, so take advantage of that instead! The food was just fine. We are not picky eaters. The staff tries hard to please and the Windjammer had something for everyone. The lines at the buffet were long all week, and not many people went to the Main Dining Room, except for Lobster night, when the dining room staff was completely overwhelmed by the packed house! Coco Cay is the Perfect Day, I could not find fault with how amazing the island is. Get there early to get a free locker for your stuff, they are all taken after the first hour. In Bermuda we booked a snorkeling trip to the coral reef through Hat Trick Charters. They only take 6-12 people to the reef and you will find that they have a perfect rating on TripAdvisor for good reason!!!!! In Nassau, we booked a room at Comfort Suites Paradise island to get free passes to the Atlantis resort for the day in port. ( it is across the street from Atlantis, a few steps away literally.). We saved so much money, compared to the people that booked through Royal Caribbean. We saved hundreds and got twice the amount of time in Atlantis as well. LOL! Read Less

Adventure of the seas 8N cruise Bahamas and perfect day Stayed overnight at doubletree Hilton. Free airport shuttle and $25 to the port. Wasn't happy they threw my luggage in the back of their free airport shuttle and as only 2 other people the bad slid around and was black not red! I still can't get it clean. Hotel excellent, and had swimming pool, cafe and Starbucks. Cruise Check in was quite quick although the queue for security was long and this was 10.30am. Once onboard there was a long queue waiting for the buffet Windjammer restaurant to open. Best avoided so went to cafe on deck 5 for a cheese and ham sandwich instead. Signs at guest services saying no upgrades as full. I did receive several emails since I paid for my cruise asking me to bid for an upgrade so it would appear unlikely you would now get any free upgrades or be able to pay for any onboard, instead they will go to the highest bidder. I selected my balcony cabin location right by the elevators so didn't want the upgrade anyway. Cabins opened just after 1pm. If you have ever bought a new build house you will understand what I mean when I say I then went on to 'snag' the room for issues. The TV volume would not turn down and was so loud I had to keep it off. The cabin steward said he has reported it but on day 2 I called maintenance myself and they sent an electrician within 30 minutes who advised it was a faulty cable. Several hours later after dinner they swapped the cable and it then worked fine. The sink tap was spraying water all over me as was probably clogged with lime scale and spraying everywhere, the cupboard door to the safe was loose on one of the hinges and almost fell off and one of the balcony chair seats was very dirty. The air con also doesn't seem to work properly either. Again my room steward said he reported these issues on day 1. On day 3 I rang maintenance again myself and within half an hour the tap spray was swapped and works perfectly now and he called a colleague who sorted the cupboard door also. Should I really have to do these things, I would suggest the room steward or supervisor should test these things. You should book my cabin 8622 I have had it fixed! Surprisingly I didn't have to ask for my free drink and welcome gift for crown and anchor which I normally spend two days chasing so that was good. I pre booked arcade credit as it came with a bonus amount so I had a letter in cabin to go to the arcade and dial a number. I did this and was told to just put my card in the machines and it will work out the credit. A nice man appeared and was very helpful, showed me how it all worked. A lot of machines were broken, poorly stocked or simply would not accept the sea pass card. You win tickets and can claim them at a machine in the arcade room on the last evening from 7pm. Needless to say we had to stand around waiting for someone else to arrive as the machine was broken! Then we had to wait whilst all the kids took forever choosing their prizes. Casino credit - was told can use OBC in the casino at no charge. You transfer the money on the machines. They have instructions in the casino. Unfortunately the casino was ruined by the smoking as usual. It goes through the whole casino and not just the smoking section. This is very poor RC. The staff are very unhappy here and are worried about the smoke to their health. People were using the casino as a smoking room instead of going outside. I walked through when it was closed and there were 2 people smoking. Entertainment was good. Mix of dancers and comedians as well as a fabulous entertainer. Dinner was busy in the windjammer most nights which is unusual. It was often busy but plenty of tables in the evening for those not wanting to go down to the restaurant. I had to live on Frosted flakes for breakfast as there were no weetabx. They also had no salad cream which normally I manage to find a bottle hidden away. The restaurant manager told me they've never had it. My reply was that on my last 20+ cruises, I must have imagined it then! I struggled to find any cooked vegetables, broccoli some days but lots of fried food and potato wedges - same all week. It was much better last year. Lovely man in the Windjammer looked after me and was very helpful. He even went to get me some French fries the last evening when they were not on the buffet. Diamond lounge - lovely to see Christopher there again, nothing was too much trouble and he even helped me find something to do the last day whilst waiting all day for my flight. Buffet continental breakfast is served in the diamond lounge although they don't have cereal in there now so was a bit disappointed. Also no snacks during the say when I went in there. I guess it gets wasted so no point putting too much out but would have been nice to find a few cookies. Diamond and above guests please note that guest services advised RC's new policy is to open all cans in the happy hour promotion (5-8pm offer). So where we get 3 X free drinks per day, if we choose to have soda cans, they now open them. I was given two cans of Coke Zero open which I then wasted as couldn't drink two at once. I like to save one for the next afternoon. Apparently they tell me they now open them so we don't give them away! I said look, I don't drink alcohol so I want my free cans of soda to enjoy when I like. If this is your new policy I will still give them away opened or waste them. I suggested RC stop those people who are costing them a fortune drinking for 3 solid hours alcohol at the free bar each night rather than worry about a few cans of soda. I am really cross having got to diamond plus I may now have to switch to P&O!!! The 3 free drinks is a perk I have spent a lot of money with RC to get. Port info: Very little information on each port, maps were not given out unless you went to some sales talk! They just wanted to talk about the overpriced stores and bamboo sheets. I assume they get commission? The Ship ha the usual merchandise, and overpriced general items. I even gave one guest some Ibuprofen for a headache as they were a small fortune in the shop. Usual $10 tat sale as I call it. Day 3 Port Canaveral - very hot! Harmony of the Seas had taken the best dock right by the Exploratory Tower so we ended up too far away to walk to anything by the Port and certainly is this 90F plus heat. There was nothing you could walk to and one of the few attractions nearby was also closed Sunday's. I got off to check I hadn't missed anything but just got bombarded by these giant flies which were everywhere. If not been before, would have done the trip to Kennedy but as we did that in November we stayed on board. Disappointed we couldn't walk to anything. Other people cancelled their tours to Disney as it was just so oppressively hot. Found some people who went to Universal Studios and they said it was unbearable and couldn't queue in this heat. Day 4 Miami - loads of cruise ships in port as you would expect. We docked on the starboard side, walked through the terminal to the HOHO buses. I booked this $49 tour on board as had lots of OBC otherwise would have bought cheaper on shore. Lots of people selling tours ashore and cheaper. They didn't tell us that we would queue for 45 minutes to get a bus that then dropped us off 5-10 mins away to then stand and wait for the proper bus to start the tour. We were left stood next to buses with engines running, it was so hot, 91F/33C in the shade plus the heat from the buses. A lady then shouted we were in the line for the blue route and we would not get on the next bus so would have another 30 minutes to wait after the next one arrived, so she said we could queue for the red bus route and moved us further along. There was no organisation, it was a free for all when the bus came. Nobody dare get off as they knew they would not get a seat back. No air con downstairs, I guess as open top buses but very poor for a hot city. I wouldn't be surprised if people were unwell due to the heat. Even with the windows open downstairs there wasn't much of a cool breeze, in fact it was a warm breeze most of the time. Other than then beach and shops, there wasn't much to see. After the tour ended we had to get off the bus and wait another 20 minutes for the bus back to the Ship. Total waste of $49 as had been to Miami before. Took 4 hours to do nothing. I did give the diamond concierge feedback which he did log and I would have left it at that but as I was infuriated at being given two cans of coke open (total waste) I went to guest services to complain. The excursions manager did call me to discuss and offered a 50% refund which was fair. Day 5 Nassau - docked furthest away so four ships in front of us. On the port side so I had a view of the ocean, ships the other side. I booked the morning essential Nassau tour in advance saved ten dollars. This was a fantastic tour. The only thing I was unhappy about was the man who decided to walk us from the furthest dock to the bus (a good 5-8 minute walk) just as the rain fell down. To say we were all soaked was really an understatement. I took out a cardigan to cover me but it was literally wringing wet. Needless to say the rain stopped after ten minutes and the man abandoned us for another ten minutes. Like they couldn't have waited for the heavy shower to pass! It took 2 hours to dry out. We went to the rum cake factory, Atlantis, the rum factory and more, it was great. Restrooms at every place. Had 3 other ships in with us so was busy around the shops/market right by the port. You can walk wall around this area. There is even a McDonalds just round the corner by the Hilton. Be prepared to haggle at the stalls though. Change was given in local currency at one of the shops on the tour so ask if paying cash whether it's USD change or Bahamas currency. Day 6 the much talked about Perfect Day, Coco Cay We docked on the left as you look at the island so the whole island was to the back of the ship as we had turned around. Grandeur was also in port. Little open mini buses took us from the ship exit to the island. They were driving a little fast! The water park looks amazing. There is also the balloon but it looked too swaying to tempt me. There are a number of shops in huts to the left of the island. Unfortunately I am very fair skinned to cannot stay out in the sun for more than a hour or so, even with factor 50 on. They were selling factor 70 and one lady factor 100 cream in the huts. There was very little shade on the island, some under the food places but not all tables were in the shade. Also you had to venture off the path through sand and sharp shells to find a table. They need to work on this which I'm sure they are doing. Also all the restrooms all had queues for the ladies. Enjoyed seeing the island but too hot for me and set my heat rash off! Internet package $15.99 for the basic one device if purchased for the duration of the cruise, 24 hour pass gone up to $22.99. Slow connection but handy to keep in touch with family and friends. I tried to download the Uber app for cheaper taxi to the airport but the pictures where you have to select store fronts etc. just would not load as it was too slow speed. Disembarkation - transfer to Newark airport it was $27.50 and left at 7.40am only! The excursions booklet had 2 X 4 hour tours leaving at 9.30am (note meeting time is 8.30 in lounges to get you out, collect luggage and through customs etc). At the back of the booklet it said have a late flight, after 3.30pm we have late tours - what they actually meant was the tours in the booklet would get you to the airport for flights after 3.30pm - total waste of time confusing people! They went on to do the same with just airport transfers saying if not in a hurry and flights after 3pm book a transfer to Newark ($27.95) or Times Square ($44.95)Again, they meant only one bus for each, both at 7.40am!!! Seriously! Excursion desk were not helpful at all. They offered no long tours or later tours and said latest time to get off her ship was 9.45am. I was going to book one of the tours but they were all cancelled as they didn't have enough people to run them. So, I was left with nothing to do and a flight at 10pm at night! RC were not helpful at all. I asked if there was luggage storage at the airport and they gave me a leaflet for storage in New York. I google one near the HOHO bus and it said sorry this location is temporarily closed. The rest appeared to be self storage. For those not knowing New York this was not good. Can someone please set up a business collecting luggage from the cruise ship on departure day and returning to the airport or nearby later. Surely a profitable business. I opted to leave at 9.30am, but was told final call to leave around 8.30am. I was going to get a taxi but there was a shuttle for just $20. Ok, so it went to the Hilton and Best western first but didn't take long. Far cheaper than a taxi if just one person. Met a lovely family also from the UK on the shuttle. Worth noting you can get a day room for around $79 plus tax $90 if you have a late flight. Newark Airport - Delta wouldn't let me check in nor offload luggage saying had to wait for virgin Atlantic (code share) staff at 5.30pm. No luggage storage they say after 9/11. However, I was able to walk all around the airport and get within 50 feet of aircraft on the AirTrain with a suitcase that had not been scanned/checked. This is really poor security. So I had 12 hours to kill before my flight. A lovely man in the shop suggested I take the shuttle outside P4 on the AirTrain to The Mills at Jersey Gardens shopping mall. I took the AirTrain around the terminals, just 2 stops and was at P4. The shuttle was outside waiting. $5 one way, $9 return. They accept luggage and even put it onboard for me. The mall is 10 minutes away, buses every half hour and he even gave me the timetable. It is huge! I never covered half. Really good prices and on designer stuff like handbags. I'm not a big shopping fan but really enjoyed this. Luckily I had my suitcase so wedged some things in! Another option with a late flight is to take the train to Manhattan. Follow signs to AirTrain at Newark airport and buy a ticket at the machine right at the AirTrain entrance (I think they were orange/blue). Buy a ticket to New York Penn station (not Newark Penn station). This ticket will cover both the AirTrain and the N Transit train. Take the AirTrain to Newark Liberty International Airport AirTrain station. Takes 10 mins max. Then get off the AirTrain and get on the NJ Transit train going to New York Penn Station. There are signs at the station. Download a map online. Once there, you can either walk around or get the underground to the main sights. You may be able to find a luggage storage location! Read Less

We celebrated my husband's birthday by taking this cruise. I purchased the birthday package where the room and door was decorated and included a picture frame and picture hanger as well as a cake and chocolate covered strawberries. The decorations were nice but due to all the other food on the ship the cake and strawberries went to waste. Probably best to save your money and bring your own decorations if you were to do this. The entertainment and crew were wonderful. Our cabin was inside on the seventh deck and very quiet there. We were in the front so very close to the entertainment venues. Our stateroom attendant was Lizbeth and she was terrific. The food was plentiful and I guess about average. There were some items that were exceptional (loved the roasted veggies in the Windjammer) and some that were lackluster (beef was tender but not much flavor in the dining room) but the wait staff were all very good. The Weather was not good for doing much on the outside decks but there were other options through out the ship. As with all cruises there were a lot of events where they are trying to sell you things. My husband and I found the price for 3 games of Bingo was more then we wanted to invest so we skipped on that. Lots of Trivia games and Karaoke. My favorite port of call was Bar Harbor, Maine but that was also the Port where we had the best weather. It was a quaint town that had lots to explore. We like the six night itinerary, long enough and we like having a weekend day to get ready and day to recover before back to work, so leaving on Sunday and back on Saturday is perfect. Embark day was very smooth, The ship is beautiful, big but not humongous and easy to figure out after a day or so. We had an inside cabin on deck 7, plenty of space for the two of us, we’re boaters and we like the real “boat” feel of an inside cabin but it might not be for everyone. Our cabin steward was very sweet but there was a bit of a language barrier that we haven’t had before. We had a bit of a mixup with our dining, we had chosen main dining early when we booked months ago but all of a sudden when we got our sea passes (which you don’t get now until you go to your cabin) they said My Time Dining. So we had to kind of push to get a table for two in main dining and didn’t get that until the 2nd night. They worked it out for us but it shouldn’t have happened and we missed out on a night at our “real” table. We moved on though and it was fine. Our servers there were very good, Nidia in particular. The food was good, some nights especially good. We liked the new sinks going into the Windjammer, very slick with wash and dry all in one, and much better than the constant antibacterial stuff that always feels so sticky, I’d rather wash my hands. We liked the Windjammer buffet for lunch and a couple of breakfasts, good food, nice variety. We spend lots of time outside and enjoy the deck above the pool. But geez, even though they really really try to tell people no saving chairs there are still so many people that do that! We never need to be right in the middle of things so we were always able to find chairs but you do see people wandering around looking for seats when there are so many saved and never used. It’s a selfish thing that never seems to change. In Cozumel we did the single rider ATV/Cavern swim excursion, very fun! We thought it might be slow riding but we were pleasantly surprised, they really let us fly! And the cavern was very cool, a literal bat cave which I thought would freak me out but our guides did such a great job of explaining it all that it felt ok to get in and swim. Great experience. I’m all over the place here, but we also really enjoyed the guy in the piano bar, can’t remember his name but he did a really funny little show. Disembarkation was made super easy by using a porter for our luggage. Our guy got our bags and somehow got us to the head of a very long line, it took us 15 mins from walking off the ship to getting into the parking garage shuttle! Money well spent on that one! My DH and I recently sailed on Adventure OTS. I know it is not the newest or the biggest, but it was perfect for us and for what we wanted to do on a cruise This was my 51st total cruise, and I am Diamond on Royal. This carries some nice perks which I will go into in a bit. As there aren't too many reviews for this ship, I wanted to share my thoughts We drove down the night before. We live about 3 hours or so from the port but I have learned not to arrive the day of. We stayed at the Embassy Suites and took a taxi to the port. As my DH travels we had points for the hotel and free rental car. So we rented a vehicle from Deltona to the airport in FLL, and then rented one for free to go home. Worked out great. We arrived at the port about noon, and we were on the ship in about 15 to 20 minutes. Since our room would not be ready until a bit after 1pm, we decided to just relax in the Schooner Bar and enjoy a couple of drinks. Once our room was ready we went and got our room keys and dropped off our carry on. We explored the ship a bit until it was time for Muster. Once Muster was finished, we went back to our room. Our suitcases were there so we unpacked. The cabin has so much storage space! We only used about half the drawers, and there were plenty of hangers in the closet. Our cabin number was 7618, which is a Hump Balcony mid-ship. Lots of room for the two reclining chairs plus a full size table. The bathroom was a bit smaller than some of the ships I have been on, but it was adequate and everything was good. Love the shower doors instead of the clingy curtains on some other ships! The biggest downside was the bed and the pillows. I would have been as comfortable sleeping on the floor! I cannot believe how hard the bed was and how flat the pillows were. Definitely a negative in my book.. The only other thing that annoyed me was the room was sometimes not cleaned until after 1:30 or so. As we like to relax in our room or out on the balcony, it was a bit of a drag. Not enough to make me upset the whole day, but enough to annoy me. We went on the cruise for some much needed R and R. We never got off the ship, and stayed on all week. Our days were spent in the Solarium, out on the balcony, in the casino a bit, or sitting on the Promenade. It was pure bliss. We had the Your Time dining, but still had a reservation for each night. I know it seems a little bit of an oxymoron to have reservations for dining on my time, but it worked for us. We sat at the same table each night with the same staff. Dinner was great every night, and took about an hour. Meals were brought out hot, my water glass stayed full, and I enjoyed my banana split for dessert each and every night. Breakfast was usually at the Windjammer, although we did eat in the dining room twice for breakfast. Lunch was always the Windjammer. It is spread out in a great way and there was little if any congestion or lines during the times we went. The Washy-Washy woman is a pure delight and always made me smile. The casino was very tight, and surprisingly not too smoky. I did not notice too many people who were smoking without playing. I am not sure if that is due to good policing by the staff or if less people are smoking. Diamond Perks: We used the free 8x10 photo, and definitely enjoyed the three cocktails loaded onto our Sea Pass card each day between 4:30 and 8:30. Since the drinks were available we never did make it to the lounge for pre-dinner snacks. We were also able to get off the ship a bit quicker since the Loyalty Ambassador was outside and saw us and two other couples who met with him during the week. He literally escorted us through the line and we were off the ship, collected out luggage, went through Customs, and in our car in about 30 minutes. My DH and I just looked at each other and said WOW! I am not sure if I covered everything, but if you have any questions I will try to answer them. We did go to a couple of the shows (don't remember the names) and they were very well done. I didn't keep the daily sheets as they are pretty generic in my opinion. Most folks dressed accordingly to the suggested dress, but there were a few in shorts and jeans on the more dressier nights. I don't care, but thought I would mention it since it comes up in discussion. My DH and I get a bit dressy, but we do it for ourselves and for each other. All in all it was just what we were wanting and needing, and except for the horrible mattress - a perfect cruise for us. Read Less

Room attendant was subpar. Didn't clean room til mid afternoon and then would show up 930 or 10 in evening after we had gone to bed to clean second time. Cleaning also was not good. Everything else about cruise was excellent. We were disappointed they did not have the parade on promenade deck. Our dining servers were great, always aiming to please. Offering second helpings, entertaining my grandson, inquiring if everything was ok and offering to get a meal to go if one of us did not show up for supper. Even ran up to windjammer to get strawberry kiwi water for us. We took 3 people who were on their first cruise and they are definitely ready to go again. Disembarking was handled better than previous cruises and we were off ship quicker than we had anticipated. We are looking for our 2020 family/friend cruise. It won't come soon enough Read Less

I did not care for our room steward. He just acted like we annoyed him. Our hallway smelled like sewer. They were doing daily work on something in our hallway. There were about 6 guys with open panals in our hall daily working all day. No other halls had an oder. Island stops were wonderful. The ship was sold out, so VERY CROWDED. The on boarding shops were more reasonably priced than I expected. She is a very pretty ship. The shows were well put together. Very talented performers. I would recommend the beverage package if you are a drinker. Drinks average about $12 for a mixed drink. We also used the new Key package. We loved the perks it offered. Read Less

Chose this cruise for the price. Embarkation was smooth as silk once we got to the ship. The only slow part was having to park at the midport parking garage and then having to shuttle back to the ship. Lunch at Park Café. Did not want to put up with the crowd at the Windjammer. After lunch our room was ready and our sea pass cards were at our door. Went to Bolleros for a drink while waiting for our luggage. Racquel and Glenn were the greatest bartenders. Went to check on our luggage and one of the two suitcases had arrived. The other did not. Finally got a letter that they confiscated our power strip and had to pick up the bag on deck 1. When I got there I told them the power strip was not a surge protected type and we had used it on numerous cruises. To no avail they said I could reclaim it after departure on the last day. Dinner at the main dining room every day. Food was the typical food served by Royal on their Voyager class ships. Service was excellent at table 147 with Jayesh (you can call me Jay) as the Waiter and Charmaine as his assistant. Even though we had my time dining, we requested that table and time for the remainder of the cruise and it was granted. We definitely tipped them extra at the end of the cruise. Many activities during the day. The shows were good. Finis Henderson was the best. He is a singer / impressionist who does Elvis, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole, and many others including Sammy Davis his real Godfather. Casino was good to my wife but not to me. Oh well. Went to the Diamond lounge on the first day for happy hour. The hors d'oeuvres were not that good . The chicken wings seemed like they were steamed and then had some thin bbq sauce on them. The skin chewed like rubber and bubble gum. Small children were touching everything on the buffet but were not eating them. Their guardians were to busy drinking and bragging about their Crown and Anchor status to do anything about them. Next night returned to the DL and again kids running around unsupervised. But the thing that made us not return to this lounge was the fact every one was saving seats for people that "were coming later", so there was no place to sit and they wouldn't open up the outside seating. We had cabin 8637. Sherwin the room steward was great. First morning no hot water in the sink or shower. Called maintenance and they promptly showed up. The man said it's fixed after doing something outside in the hallway wall. It was hotter but not the temp I usually encounter in a stateroom. Next morning no hot water and the sink is stopped up again. By Wednesday we had hot water till Thursday morning. This went on the rest of the cruise and was probably our biggest bummer of the cruise. We bought liquor in Cozumel and as normal you turn it in when you get back on board. The man collecting it said it would be returned to the stateroom on the last night of the cruise. No problem. The last night of the cruise no liquor. Down to Guest Services. They said you can pick up your liquor on embarkation day at 0630 deck 5 in the Sapphire dining room. Why?. Because it is spring break and there is a lot of under age children on board and we don't want them to have access to the alcohol. But if you buy it in their liquor store on the last day you get to take it with you right then and there. What?. Did self assist when getting off the ship. They said it would be around 0645 when they would let us off. Around 0715 is when we started off. The shuttles were waiting and back to the parking garage. All in all a fun time, but we will not cruise the Adventure again. Too many little small things going on. Not enough to spoil a good time, but enough to turn us away from this ship. Another great cruise on RCL. We had a four night dining package which may or may not have been excessive;) Kids liked Adventure Ocean and Optix, the teen club. Great service from all we encountered! I was worried we wouldn’t like this ship as much after taking two trips on the Harmony but I was pleasantly surprised and reminded of why people sometimes choose smaller ships- ease of getting around! The pools were never too busy and the kids area wasn’t ever too crowded for my kids. They loved the flow rider and the water slides. I’m glad RCL has added those slides to even these smaller ships. This is the second time we have done this itinerary, four stops in a row with 8 days total. It’s my favorite... now we are ready to go longer than 8 days!! The food everywhere was great, in my opinion. The pastry chefs knew what they were doing! Chops Grille needs more kid friendly options for appetizers though. All the servers in the main dining room and specialty restaurants were so kind to my girls, it was very sweet. All in all I would 100% recommend this cruise to anyone. Read Less

We switched from a balcony room to this room type and we were not disappointed. The view was perfect and I could enjoy it right from the bed or chair. I was concerned about getting sick from the motion on the front of the ship but it never bothered me. We enjoyed all of the western Caribbean ports and the cruise. The points I see that Royal Caribbean could improve on are the outrageous price of a soda beverage package. ($300 for my family of 3) Who can drink $300 worth of soda in 6 days?!? We noticed the fee for Johnny Rockets was higher this time than a couple of years ago. This is a nice option when you are tired of the same spongey burgers from the buffet. One last thing that would be so great is if they could do in-app messaging without the VOOM prices. Overall we really enjoyed our cruise and room type. Read Less

We chose this cruise as a vacation/birthday celebration with my husband's family, 6 of us in all. Cruising as a vacation with family is great as you have the option to spend time together or venture off separately, and all gather together for a lovely dinner in the evening where no one is responsible for the meal planning or kitchen clean-up! This was our first time on the Adventure, but we have cruised many times on several lines. I absolutely loved this ship! It is a perfect size, allowing for the upscale activities of the Flowrider and ice skating shows without long waits or lines for anything. Embarkation was an absolute breeze - we entered the terminal at 12:30 and were on the ship in 15 minutes - Wow! The Windjammer Marketplace cafe can get a bit crowded at peak times, especially on embarkation day when everyone grabs lunch while waiting for their rooms to open. But, there is always plenty of food and the staff does a great job of clearing tables and bringing drink refills around to help. I liked the drink stations on this cruise as they had someone there filling trays of drink glasses with water, tea, lemonade so you could grab and go. Really reduced congestion in this area compared to other ships. Remember that both sides of the buffet have the same offerings, and then in the back they flow into a grill area with hamburgers/hotdogs/pizza/mexican and a dessert section. No lack of food choices, for sure! On sea days, be sure to try the main dining room for lunch if you are tired of the buffet. They offer a delicious hot buffet and a made-to-order salad station as well as the option to order from the menu. The cold seafood bar one day included mussels, jumbo peel-n-eat shrimp, and calamari! It was fantastic - better than dinner! Some entertainment that really stood out : One night they had a band called "Rookie". Outstanding. Received a standing O, and did an encore. The Ice Show was really impressive, especially with the limited ice space, props, and 9 skaters! Keith, the piano bar guy, was a huge hit with tons of people at the Schooner Bar every night singing along. We added on the Mystery Dinner Theater show at Giovanni's , and that was very fun. Food was excellent! Included a glass of champagne and unlimited wine during dinner as well. Worth it! This cruise visited Labadee, San Juan, St. Maarten, and St. Kitts. Would have appreciated knowing in advance that there is a locals' craft market at Labadee. We didn't take any money with us since the lunch was provided and drinks were on our ship card. First time to St. Kitts. Lovely island, but the people there weren't as friendly or welcoming as we would have hoped. Day trip to Nevis would be a good option there. At 3 of our stops, we had excursions booked using Trip Advisor instead of the ship offerings. First time doing this, but it worked out great! Do your homework though, especially to coordinate timing of things with the ship schedule. Overall, an amazing and relaxing cruise. Only things keeping me from 5 stars were: the lack of information on Labadee (felt badly that I couldn't help them by buying something), the casino being extremely smoke filled so never participated there, and the caliber of the main dinner entrees in the dining room. Ship was very clean but hallways were quite narrow. problematic when stewart carts were in hall and room service trays left in hall. the were kicked several time by our party of four while walking the halls to public areas. Dining was much improved over the oasis of the seas i was on in november. Entertainment was very good. service was excellent and the people working on the ship seemed to enjoy their jobs and it does make a difference to see happy people. i did not bar drinking since their prices are twice the price you can get the onshore. i made no purchases other than 2 10 dollar tee's. i remember seeing a can of pringles for sale at the general store for 5.99. you can get these on shore for 1 dollar to 1.50. i love cruising but have been able to show restraint while onboard due to the nickel and dollaring done by the lines. i just wish they would be reasonable to the captive audience the have instead of trying to milk every one dry. i would bet if the charges half of what they do now they would increase sales to equal the profit they now receive Read Less

Ship: Perfectly sized, not too crowded, not too big, not too small, wonderful water slides on the top deck which are great for kids, the slides have clear walls that pass over the ocean outside of the ship's bounds, very exciting. Pools seemed big enough for kids. During the trip there was some wonderful live African or Caribbean music on the top deck and on the Promenade, however there was also some of terrible noisy excruciating pop music as well. The elevators system is extremely efficient for this ship size, the ship has 14 elevators total with wonderful view from the elevator cabin. As a result embarking and disembarking is very quick. Service: There is a good mobile app for guests to use on the ship without having to purchase any WiFi plan. The app provides a lot of useful ship info, such as schedule of events and restaurants, charges on the account, etc. However, need to know to select on the device "use WiFi as is", i.e. without connecting to the internet, this step is very non-intuitive, and you would not know about it unless you stop by at the help desk. Some personnel at the help desk is not fluent with English, even though English is vital for working at the help desk. For most stops the ship does not provide proper maps for the locations to which the ship arrives, have to get maps somewhere after disembarking. Cabin: The balcony cabin on 7th level was great, fits 4 people, well sized and comfortable. The cabin has great sound isolation. One issue is that no body wash is provided in the cabin, like you would expect in an hotel, the cabin only provides shampoo and conditioner. There is also an oversight with the light on the balcony, where the cabins are separated by matte walls, which do provide good privacy, but pass the light from the adjacent balcony. So, unless your neighbors turn off the balcony light in the night, you will not be able to enjoy the starry sky, since you cannot observe stars with lights on. Gratuity: They charge substantial "gratuity" fee per person per day, which is a marketing trick to make the cost look lower, and then charge more during the cruise. For 4 people in the room the $58 gratuity per day is inadequate, this is really a hidden cost and not a gratuity. In addition, even before we boarded the ship, the workers were asking for out-of-pocket gratuity to handle the luggage, which is also inappropriate. The service in the restaurant was so exceptional that we were leaving additional $10 per day there anyway. Restaurant: This review is for the Sapphire restaurant that is included in the cost of the cruise. There was also a terribly crowded cafe with good enough food, but we preferred to eat in the Sapphire restaurant. The service was exceptional on many levels. We had a person with dairy intolerance, and the minute we mentioned that the chief waiter ran in, introduced himself, and arranged a special dairy-free menu to be specially cooked every day, both appetizer and main course, as well as the dessert. A special table with a nice view was assigned for us to make sure same waiters aware of the dietary restriction would serve us. Every day the chief waiter stopped by to plan new dairy-free dishes for the next day. There were also a very nice and very accommodating waiter, and very nice waiter's assistant, who would show quite fancy magic tricks to our little boys during the dinner every day, one trick per day. While this experience was amazing, I am not certain that it is typical - we might just have been very lucky with our waiters crew. Also, the restaurant has a dress code, but it is not enforced, and while many people come formally dressed in the evening, some of more arrogant and ignorant guests would come dressed in shorts and t-shirts, they were not turned around. Shows: The ice show is superb beyond expectations, very professionally made, other shows not so much. Photography is not allowed during the ice show, but the rule is not enforced, and some of more arrogant and ignorant guests would make pictures causing distraction. Promenade: Promenade is the common area with shops, bars, and the cafe that offers free late-night food and free 24-hour drinks, like tea, coffee, and water. It took some substantial effort to find out which place has free 24 hours tea, coffee, and water, this is not made clear enough in the ship's flier. We also saw unruly and yelling drunk people walking on the promenade and stopping by in cafe, creating unpleasant uncivilized environment, yet these people are not confronted by personnel or by security. Kids: The kids club on the ship is very lame. The activities were not particularly fancy or exciting. There is a set of play stations, like Xbox, to use during the so-called "free time", when no kids activities are scheduled. This "free time" has lack of supervision. Our boy came crying when some other kid pushed him out of the game station when it was our boy's turn to play, and did not let him play for an hour. Basically, the boy was bullied, and there was no one to make sure turns are fairly taken at the play stations. Skating is available daily, which is great, but for kid sizes there are only hockey skates, whereas kids of this age would normally need figure skates. There is also mini golf that is good for kids. Excursions: 4 islands over 8 days was a great deal. Labadee, San Juan, and St. Kitts all 3 were awesome, but St. Maarten was a complete waste of time, both the excursion and the stop overall. The St. Maarten beach is crowded and not great, rather overrated, and there isn't much to see on the island either, not mentioning the tourism infrastructure is very rudimentary even at the port. The whole St. Maarten stop is arranged for people to leave their money on this island for no good reason and no benefit. On St. Kitts need to understand that there are no beaches at the walking distance, and using excursion as a way to be transported to the beach is rather overpriced, the transportation alone should not cost as much as the excursion does. The travel time for excursions is not disclosed, only the total time is. For instance, St. Kitts excursion we took was declared as 4 hours long, but took only 3.5 hours, of which 1 hour was the travel time, leaving only 2.5 hours to spend on the beach. They also canceled our excursion on Labadee because they decided to merge our excursion into an earlier one to make it more cost-efficient, but they failed to notify us, and we lost valuable beach time as a result. To make things worse, when they cancel an excursion, instead of refunding it, they turn its cost into a non-refundable onboard credit - so, you will have to find ways to spend that money on the ship. Perfect place between decks five and eleven where all the action takes place. Not crazy about the production shows apart from the ice show which was great. Nor the headliners shows apart from David Naster who is always very entertaining. Also not crazy about the menu in MDR. It really needs to change menus more regularly and Royal need to change out more than two or three dishes each night. Choice becomes very limited and boring. However entertainment in the Schooner Bar was brilliant with Keith being probably the best piano guy we’ve seen over a dozen or more cruises, and who can complain about winter sun in the Caribbean? Entertainment was either very good or disappointing but the parties and outdoor movies were great. Food was delicious in both dining rooms. Valentines was celebrated with a fantastic chocolate buffet. I truly appreciated how the staff encourages people to wash hands. Issues: the app isn’t reliable , announcements can’t be heard in the cabin, smoking areas are not located in great areas..... casino stinks of smoke and the smoking area on deck 11 is too close to the doors and towel station... several of the staff at the customers service desk were not fluent in English which led to mistakes and misunderstandings. Ship is lovely, especially Royal Promenade and Blue Moon Lodge. Food was absolutely delicious in both Main dining room and Windjammer Cafe Buffet. And Royal Promenade has snacks and tea, coffee, water, lemonade, and ice tea. So loved stopping by there for a quick break. Entertainment was mixed bag but had some shining moments and the 70s Night was a blast! And the Ice Show was nothing short of amazing. We saw it twice. Did no shore excursions so can't comment on that. Just walked outside with each port. It was fine except Cozumel which had very aggressive sales people. I recently returned from a wonderful cruise on Adventure of the Seas which included three generations of our family. We are ages 25-76 with both novice and experienced cruisers. I was the coordinator of the whole adventure and with the help of the excellent crew and staff of the Adventure of the Seas everything went smoothly. My husband and I had previously sailed on the ship so I knew there were appealing features for everyone in our group. We had four cabins from balcony to promenade to inside so that was good for all to see the differences and learn the benefits of varying locations on ship. The variety of activities and venues on the ship provided enjoyment for everyone in our group. The younger ones were the late-nighters who enjoyed the Schooner Bar and the casino. The early risers loved coffee from room service and the coffee bar. We all enjoyed the pool deck and the pool bars, dinners in the main dining room, and the excellent beach itinerary. To sum up the highlight of this cruise for our family we all agreed that sitting as a group around Keith's piano in the Schooner Bar and singing our lungs out one night was hilarious and the smiles never left our faces the whole time. I'm smiling right now as I write this--it was that good. Keith is truly an entertainer. Highly recommend. Our family has travelled quite a bit in Mexico over the past 20 years but Costa Maya was a new port to us and what a lovely surprise. Not so commercialized yet and we found it refreshing. First thing to do is get out of the immediate port area and take a taxi to the malecon where there are little beach clubs and more locals. We spent our time ashore walking on the boardwalk, sat under umbrellas with some ice cold buckets of beer and fresh pico de gallo (Big Mama's), and ate street tacos from a local cart vendor. Enjoyed by one and all. We also took an independent excursion with Cozumel Beach Bar Hop which goes to the east end of the island which has no electricity for the most part. Off the beaten path and more authentic small beach bars with loads of fun and frivolity. These are rustic beach places with sand and surf not chain restaurants with fancy bathrooms. The millennials thought they were hip and the rest of us remember when Mexico used to have places like this everywhere. Looking forward to the next one--bon voyage! Read Less
