We say that most of the staff of Royal Caribbean have to work with situations they can not control. Our stateroom steward was wonderful. He had to deal with our terrible situation. 1. Restroom smelled like urine everyday. He used bleach regular to clean and pour down the drain. 2. The stateroom smelled like urine regularly. 3. The refrigerator did not work. Told 5 minutes after arriving. The steward called repeatedly. On night 12 the steward changed the refrigerator on the guest service called to say they replaced it when they found out. So it was day 13 before we knew it worked. 4. Soot was on the bed, regularly, coming from the air conditioning vent. 5. The lock on the stateroom stuck almost everyday. 6. The dietary issues. The chef was Jamaican, and when told by the head waiter what to make, would not. Deserts were repeats of the samething. They tried to issue fruit. I would do what I was told by the head waiter. Then I would go to the grill at lunch, no desert of limited choice for meal. Then the food was often not the correct temperature. Hot food cold, cold food warm. 7. Then discuss issues. The guest service would not answer, or just shrug her shoulders. 8. The Guest Services was not forthcoming on port information. All options of port transportation. Say there was only a 15 euro transport, but there was one that was free, Valencia, Spain. 9. The ship had a terrible smell of waste on the fourth deck by the theater. 10. Royal Caribbean is missing the final touches. They are lacking the staff to complete. Less staff in the dining room. They don't clean the table from crumbs after dinner before desert. There was a shortage of staff. 11. Payment for things that use to be free. We would show up to a craft presentation, they would want to charge $9.95. People would get up and leave once they found the price. I filled out the survey for them. What is so said, people on the cruise brought things up everyday at breakfast. We didn't say a thing. 50 percent of the guest did not go to the dining room. The head waiter said the cruise before was 98 percent. These low numbers were unheard of. People left the theater in droves some nights. The performances were poor. It was a major conversation the next day at breakfast and dinner. There was something that were good. We had a good time with many people. Made new friends. We bonded on the terrible service and problems of the day. We are thankful we were not stranded at sea. If we had never had the quality service of the past cruises, we wouldn't know better. That is why future cruises must be on another company. We have had a good trip overall, but were very disappointed with Royal Caribbean. Read Less

We booked a 2 week Mediterranean cruise for 2 adults and 2 children (13 and 8) sleeping in one family cabin with a balcony. The bed option was a double bed and a sofa bed. Embarkation at Southampton was very smooth. When we were able to access our cabin, we were disappointed. The room was small – we were prepared for that as we appreciate space is a premium on a cruise ship. However… there was a chair on the balcony that was broken, the carpet was threadbare, the cabin units were badly chipped and scratched, the sofa had some very dubious stains on it, there were stains on the sink, about a 7cm crack on the plastic shower enclosure and a urine stained toilet seat. It was also very dusty. When we opened a drawer, there was a dirty fork inside. We complained about the state of the cabin. During the course of the cruise, we had… a new toilet seat, new balcony chair, new sofa, new carpets, new shower enclosure, the stains were removed from the sink, the room was also given a ‘deep cleanse’. It’s very disappointing to save all year, paying in excess of £7000 for the four of us - having booked the cruise based on the brochure which promised rooms you won’t want to leave! The kids club – two stories for this… my 8 year old enjoyed the kids club. My 13 year old really didn’t want to go on a ‘Scavenger Hunt’. Knowing 13 year olds – I can appreciate that isn’t an activity that would appeal – it’s definitely not something I would have signed up for at that age. There was a football / basketball pitch/court. This was unsupervised. The game of choice depended on the choice of the biggest boys – playground mentality prevailed. There were nets surrounding the court. These were designed to keep stray balls from hitting passers by – they were full of holes – some of the holes were small – the biggest I saw was around a metre in diameter. This is something that should have been addressed before the holes developed to the size they did – it’s simply a safety issue. Having paid just short of £1000 for a drinks package, it was disappointing for my husbands choice of drink (Peroni) to only be available for a few days before it ran out – it was not re-stocked until we docked at Genoa. One day we went to Johnny Rockets – a restaurant you pay for…. The whole boat had ran out of frozen chips and so we paid for greasy, soggy hand made chips… I don’t know that I would recommend restaurant based on our experience – the chips aside, the burgers weren’t fabulous in my opinion. The entertainment…. Well… one day the Cruise Director and his side-kick said in previous jobs they’d worked in coats of different colours. It showed. If your idea of entertainment is Mr Adventure of the Seas (poolside), daytime activity people dressing up and lip-syncing to various songs (night time), Men v Women battle of the sexes – which entailed things like passing an orange up and down a line neck to neck and karaoke you’ll enjoy it. In addition, there were various acts – not sure who auditioned the acts – but there was a man with a piano – he was out of tune. There was a band made up of old men playing old stuff. There were various other acts…. my advice to whoever booked them would be to consider whether it would get 4 yeses on Britain’s Got Talent. There was a cello/violin group that would get past the first round – they were great, however, there was a juggler (really!) the sort you can pop 50p in a hat in the high street, a man and a piano billed as the Funniest Bald Man and a Piano (or something like that) – his jokes weren’t great and he wasn’t a great pianist, there was a hypnotist – not great – he ‘hypnotised’ a group of people (some clearly faking it for their 2 minutes)… I spent the night with an awful view of a ‘true’ Scots man in a kilt sitting with his legs akimbo. Would have been sensible for him to hypnotise all of us into believing his act was good! The show cast that performed I think for 3 nights in the 2 weeks were good. Not sure what they were up to the rest of the 2 weeks! Food – the Windjammer reminded me of a Service Station / School Dinner hall. However, we mainly ate in the Mozart restaurant. It was great. I really cannot fault it. The waiters, the service, the food quality and choice were excellent. It was a really good chance for my children to try some new things. Amazed that my son loved the snails (they were great). But if they did choose something they weren’t keen on, the waiters took it away and brought them something they thought they’d like – which they usually got right. We did complain to Royal Caribbean’s Executive office when we got back – they apologised and offered us money off another cruise – however, my 8 year old put it very nicely – why would we spend more money with them… she’s right. Although they said they wanted us to give them a chance to show us how good they can be, my view is that they had the chance this year! On the whole – despite being told when booking, it was a ship that was having a re-furb (think it only had a limited re-furb), it was very tired and worn out. Definitely not worth the money and not something I would choose to do with my holiday in future – although I did enjoy the cruise aspect – I would try another company! Read Less

I had never been on a cruise before as they are not really my thing( I like my own agenda when i'm on holiday) but I agreed to go with my sister and nephew at the last minute as her husband couln't get the time off work. To start with checking in and boarding the ship was quite simple long queues but no worse than at an airport. Once on the ship rooms weren't ready not a problem as we were hungry so went to get food in the buffet restaurant. The food was of a standard i would not expect of a cruise ship luke warm and tasteless the prices for drinks are extortionate we quickly learnt to nt order any drinks with our meal and just drink the water that was available. After lunch we went to our cabin and wished we hadn't bothered. i've stayed in many places around the world from hostels up to 5 star and have to say this was one of the dirtiest i've stayed. The sheets and bedding were covered in stains from what looked like blood to sweaty yellow stains on the pillows ( i have photos). We explored the ship lots to do but also a lot of things cost extra. Dinner in the main dining room was OK but again food pretty tasteless nothing special. Went to the ice show this was very good but again the standard of cleanliness on board was apparent as the ice captain had a huge stain on his white outfit!! Next morning we were awakened early by the captain to tell us we were in Le Harve not sure of the exact time but must have been around 8.00am. Who wants to be woken up when they are on holiday!!!!!! Same standard of food for breakfast once we actually managed to get a table and sit down and eat. To top it all off you are charged $12 a day per person in your cabin (including children) with no choice but to pay as it is just taken off your card which you have to givr upon boarding the ship. I have friends who regularly go on cruises but not with this company, the welcome pack, menu's are all far superior with other UK based firms. So all I can say is if youy want a cruise go with another company unless you like over priced drinks dirty cabins, poor quality food and poor service that you are charged for.   Read Less

Boarded the adventure of the seas with some trepidation as we had had issues with RC before, check in was ok and just a short wait to get into our outside stateroom, luggage arrived in good time, ok good start i thought, then downhill, cabin steward just managed a grunt each day despite trying to have a conversation with him, nothing, other stewards were fine, next was a quick meal in the windjammer restaurant, well how no body ended up with a stomach upset from lukewarm food i will never know, the only good thing were the waiting staff as always but their numbers were greatly reduced, main restaurant was somewhat better. The ship cruised at a very slow speed to Iceland so sea days consisted of reading (be warned the library is very poor) so what was there left to do, no daytime entertainment apart from an ice show twice in 12 days, rock wall or gambling so you were pushed towards over priced drinks and shopping for junk you never knew you needed, as this was a cold climate cruise people stayed inside leading to a shortage of seating on board, as a result of the slow rate of knots the shore time which is the main reason for the cruise was very much reduced, don't believe the time table you are given by RC those are arrival and departure times add on 1hr for arrival clearance and subtract 1hr for packing away. Senior staff didn't want to communicate with passengers making you feel beneath them , organisation on board was non existent which actually lead to a fight right in front of me whilst waiting to go ashore no one from RC were helping with this and we all know how some people feel and act when having to queue. I can go on for hours but i wont, all i can say is if this was a first cruise i would probably thought it was wonderful, but having been on a variety of ships for years the standard has really dropped and cost cutting to increase profits has taken over. Please don't make the mistake we did. NEVER AGAIN Read Less

After many cruises with RC,we have always come home excited to tell everyone about the unusual and special things that only happen on a cruise. We have cruised with many cruise lines and of course they also have that one and only type of holiday that you get when cruising. Last year we went with three different cruise lines NCL, in March, RC,Adventure Of The Seas in July and in October P & O. Each had a small spin on the same unique holiday called cruising. On 29 Oct 2014, We have just come back form the cruise dated 12 October 2014 Called Med Cities,on The Adventure Of The Seas, in a Junior Suite Room number 7692. What a Big difference a year makes as this is the second time in a row we have used this ship we were in the Italian part of the med last year!! First of all I would like to say we feel we were duped by getting a Junior Suite all that money for a few extra square feet!!!! disgusting Although we were told that we had restricted viewing We were not told that on the days we could actually go on the balcony we would have to put up with staff on the deck just below ours having their breaks sitting there smoking and messing around. Of course it's not their fault But had we been informed of this we would not have taken the room even if it was for free!!!( We will never ever get another Junior Suite!! With the restricted views we hardly had any sunshine our Balcony It was always wet or damp couldn't really use it!!!! When we looked out our views were completely spoilt by the staff smoking and chatting!! ( Again it's not there fault they have to sit there!!) We went to reception to comment the lady wasn't interest and said all we could do was write to you at head office, Royal Caribbean on our return!!! We traveled bus which was new, comfortable and for us it meant the start of our holiday. We were late getting on the ship due to a strict hygiene deep clean after a small S & D breakout on the previous cruise. The Safety Drill went ahead even though passengers were still trying to broad THIS IS SURELY AGAINST MARITIME LAW as all passengers must take part!!!!!! Albeit that your staff in the past have been Fabulous on this trip they weren't!!!!! We would stress that it's not there fault, it's all the cutbacks, less staff working to hard, making mistakes and making our time very impersonal To which we were saddened to see!!!!!! What's happened to all the nice things like folded towels etc. Ice Sculptures, dinner staff going around singing or just to music with us guests waving our serviettes,The Flower Trolley, champagne and chocolates, this is the type of thing we liked on our cruises. Making this type of holiday unique, that's why we chose cruising and introduced our friends and family to it there were twelve of us last year and it was wonderful what's Happened!!!!!!!!!!! Last year a few of our group smoked they went outside didn't mind at all but this year you have allowed it in the casino we use the casino quite a bit and all we could smell was smoke it was awful and In fact that is all you could smell all over!!! I'm sure in fact I know it's not allowed to be in public places because secondary smoking causes CANCER it's also against the law!!!!!! But as you are on the ocean you think you can do as you please If that carries on that's something else we will not be doing going in the casino!!!!!!!!! It's so sad to see a company of your calibre and 40 plus years in the business to loose track on what cruising is all about we know that it's always about making money but surely please don't loose sight of that personal touch that quite a lot of cruisers like. The staff have always been very polite and professional but to many cutbacks has changed all that, My Time dinning has also changed the way the staff interact, they just don't have the time to be friendly!!!!! Even your entertainment has become like what you would expect on a caravan camp holiday!! Although their was a couple of star turns to which you flew in!!!!! The ship it's self was in need of a complete update because everywhere looked dated. We read that the ship had some work done on some areas but we did not see this!!!!!! Our only savour to this holiday was the trips we took around the cities, getting off the ship for home was good! We have a cruise booked next year and sadly if it's like the one we have just been on we won't be returning to Royal Caribbean. Thankyou for listening and we hope you can take these few points on board. Shaun Wood   Read Less

Took a cruise on RC with daughter and granddaughter. I have cruised on Norwegian many many times and was sickened by Royal Caribbean's cleanliness policy when it comes to bedding. Normally, I don't check bedding but my granddaughter wasn't comfortable on her bunk so I proceeded to remove a thin mattress from my bed for her and found it was soiled with a very large brown stain. (nothing like spilled coffee) Also, found the sheets with brown streaks across them. I asked our steward about it and was told that it was all disinfected and not to worry. I told him I know about people that are incontinent or get sick and end up accidentally soiling the bedding and about how some sexual acts leave fecal streaks on the sheets. There is no sure way of disinfecting anything soaked with feces. I asked if this was the policy of the company and he said that it was (he was very sheepish about this and admitted that what I know, to be true). So we slept on feces soaked bedding. I happen to know that NCL incinerates anything contaminated by blood or feces. There is no attempt at cleaning or disinfecting. Even carpeting is replaced if need be. They store mattresses and carpeting on board just for this reason. I will never ever take another cruise with Royal Caribbean - never!. Sick! On the bright side, the ship was very ornate. That's all that was nice. The dining was disappointing as we were only allowed on the lower level of the restaurant. (On NCL we have no assigned seating or time for dining.) Made us feel like 2nd class people - the food was not good. The crew seemed less than joyful almost like they were under duress. On Norwegian, the crew has always been very happy and helpful, although I know for a fact, that they sometimes 'paint' the smile on just because it's their job. Crew on every ship for every company are overworked and way underpaid - working about 75 hours/week for a straight so many months with no days off. This cruise was a total waste of time and money. I did complain to the company but got a generic response. PS just joined this site and the cruise was a couple years ago so I don't remember dates for sure. I'll be on the NCL Epic in Sept 2016!! This is the worst cruise we ever had. Food choice is better at any fast food place or Chinese restaurant, the idea to have open just one pizza cafe on the 5th floor after 8pm for 3500 people is far beyond logical thinking. After 9pm it was the only place, except room service, to have a snack with a couple dozen of shaking tables where hundreds of people were trying to find a free chair to sit. Hundreds of unsupervised kids running around the ship, all parts of the ship and all floors, loud yelling, pushing guests, jumping stairs, cursing, scaring guests... and all that from morning to late night and even after midnight. What are cameras for? What is the security for? We wanted to have fun and be secure on our vacation. Why do we have to deal with it after paying our, I would say not so cheap, price for the cruise? All that bothersome was not only once, it was going on all the time till the last night, we had to see and hear that zoo, bringing security attention to it couple of times, with no help. Breakfast in the restaurant was taking too long just for the service timing, not ordering, service... if we ordered an omelette, it cost us half morning waiting for it, so we stopped doing orders and eat what was in the buffet. My husband had to ask for coffee couple times (once is not enough) a few mornings, water was not served for breakfast at all, only juices were served, even when we asked for it (it is either waiter forgot about it or it was not included in price of cruise). Not a single morning we received water in the restaurant. The idea to make the drill for the crew during breakfast was even greater, we just had to leave the ship without eating our food ordered because we could not get it within 45min after ordering, so we just had coffee and left. Breakfast in the Windjammer on 11th floor is simply wild, because of the crowd, hard time to find a table to sit, unsupervised kids sneaking/running/jumping on the way, ( what is that security for and why nobody cared about it even after making complaint to the front desk? ), also the personnel in windjammer would definitely help finding free space to sit for guests and offer water or coffee, we had it on previous cruises, but not this one. The only great experience (that is why i made it 1 instead of 0 on the survey) we had on this cruise is with our ROOM ATTENDANT, we never saw him during the cruise except couple times he wished good time when we were leaving for the day, which is great, room was clean and towels always changed. Five starz! Dinner time at the restaurant was EXTREMELY slow, our group of 12 was seating at 6pm and finishing dinner after 8pm, because of slow service. Dishes were delivered to our table 20-30min after ordering, sometimes we did not get some dishes that we ordered at all. Our table was 12 people and we placed our orders pretty fast, within 5-10min after reviewing the menu. This is not the fault of the waiter i believe, the waiter and waiter assistant were great, but the whole management altogether could do better, maybe for 12 people table they could have some priorities or assigned another waiter or assistant waiter to expedite serving, that is probably for corporate to think over this situation. There was barbecue served on the ship on the "Day at Sea", 12:30pm to 1:30pm. One our of this event for 3500 guests ship, It was a disaster by the pool. Around 2000 people line to get a plate of barbecued pork rib. The line was going on for half a mile around the pool and jacuzzi area where other guests were trying to relax and swim. Yes, nobody asked them to wait in line, but this is what happened and it cannot be deleted from my memory. I think this is also something to think over for the corporate. Entertainment is the main thing on the ship in our opinion and entertainment of this cruise did not meet our expectation. We did not like it because it was boring, translated in Spanish, poor performing quality, cheap content. There was many different language speaking people on the ship and for some reason instead of making all talk, presentations, songs, etc.. in plain English, it was translated in Spanish... It destruct attention of people who do not speak Spanish. Even TV programming was mostly in Spanish with a few channels in English. Why? TV channels could definitely do a lot better, it was not like that on our previous cruises. Guests from Puerto Rico were making majority of the cruise and that is not suppose to make me or other guests from different parts of USA being GUESTS of Puerto Rican crowd on the ship. I, my husband, and our friends on the ship felt like more attention, including language preference and entertainment, was brought to PR guests during the whole cruise. Is that because the ship was departing from San Juan? If that so, I will tell everyone I know not to get any cruise departing from that port. Ever. We had an unused onboard credit portion which we wanted to cash out. The front desk denied our request to get the cash or credit for it, so we had to find something to buy on the ship. I would rather have it rolled over to my next cruise or purchase a "gift card", if cash option is not available. I believe that the onboard credit is part of what we paid for when we purchased this vacation, and it is not supposed to go to waste if not used. Virtual money is also money and there should be a way to give it back in some form. Having people buy stuff on the ship that they don't need is not a very good solution. We feel that we wasted good amount of time and money by purchasing this cruise. We were using Royal Caribbean line for our vacation as our preference and it is over. Now we need to look for something better, more reliable, more professional. After this cruise we lost our interest and loyalty to this line and we have to share it with all our friends and people we know. We sincerely hope that corporate management of Royal Caribbean will do something about everything we described above. Read Less

I want to start off by saying that the ports were all wonderful (RC had nothing to do with that other than getting us to each port). Our room was spacious and clean, but dated 1672. The TV choices were poor unless you wanted to PAY for premium movies. I purchased the UP (ultimate package) and always ended up waiting 20 minutes or more to get a drink. The bar menu was the same at all bars except the Champaign Bar. So when ordering outside of the Champaign bar, they didn't have or know how to make the drink. So, it was a very boring drink menu. Not worth the money. Plus, they up charged you for certain drinks even though you had that highest paid drink package. RC is really good at up charging. And, to boot, they scanned your card and printed out a receipt for you to sign hoping for an additional tip. That was very annoying. As if you didn't pay enough!! And if you didn't tip, you got snubbed by the drink staff. The Children's play center (6-8) was garbage. It was un-organized and boring. There security was not up to standards as well. We are regulars on Princess Cruises, and RC is by no means even close to what Princess offers for the children at the play center. There children's pool slide was only open from 4-5. I mean, come on.....what was up with that. There itinerary for each day was pathetic for the kids. They also combined the 6-8 with the 9-11 as there were not enough kids on board for them to validate opening up each play center. That was not realistic for them to do such a thing. The food was awful! The sit down dinners were nasty and the buffet was the same every day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. The 24 hr tiny, tiny, café was the grossest food you ever eat in your life. The pizza was worst then what you got in grade school cafeteria. The staff was very nice, but that couldn't make up for the lack of quality food. It was worse than disgusting. Thank god for the bread. That was the only good thing at dinner. And maybe the salad bar if you made it to the buffet. The desserts were boring and plain, yuck and yuck. Same every day, and gross. Nothing special. Room service's menu was gross. there is an up charge between 12-5 which is bull!! The only thing that was good was the coffee in the morning. O, and the bananas, yogurt and boxed cereal. There is no place to sit outside and eat unless you want to sit next to the smokers. Their salt water pool had so much chemicals that it literally burned peoples skin and eyes. Everyone who jumped in screamed "my eyes" from them burning out of their sockets. The Jacuzzi was OK even when 50 people tried to squeeze into one Jacuzzi. The entertainment was boring. We had 2 comedy nights, one singer, the RC dancers, and the Ice Skaters. The first comedy night was packed as there was nothing else going on. The second time was at midnight and there is nothing like having a midnight show and then having to get up for a beach excursion at 8AM the next day. The singer was good if you were in a nursing home as well as the RC dancers. The best was the Ice Skating show. During the day if you opted to stay on the ship, the only thing you had to look forward to was the same darn movie playing on the big screen over and over, day after day. Who ever planned out entertainment should look for a new job because this was the most boring cruise I have ever been on. Talk about cut-backs. The ultimate design of this ship compared to other ships I have been on was truly the worst. It was not a "friendly" ship. It was quite boring, had lack of common areas to relax and had no WOW factor. RC also advertised on the Adventure of the Seas as having ROYAL BABIES, which they do not. They also do not have JADE restaurant and Johnny Rockets was greasy and gross and the 6 dollar charge is too much. It should be free considering their already lack of dinning choices. All and all, I could not recommend RC to anyone. Please, trust me, I Have been on celebrity and Princess and RC didn't even come close. They nickel and dime you. The food was terrible. The staff was always begging for a tip. The entertainment stunk. The pool was over chlorinated. The kids centers were awful. Their drink options were poor and lack of!! NEVER AGAIN RC. NEVER AGAIN!!! I will stick with Princess or Celebrity. Read Less

Over the years we have completed over 60 cruises on different cruise lines. We recently completed our third cruise on Royal Caribbean. We sailed on the Adventure of the Seas out of San Juan Puerto Rico. This was the worst cruise we have ever taken and positively the last on Royal Caribbean. We hadn't sailed on Royal for a few years and decided to given them another try after some disappointing cruises thinking they may have improved. The ship is old and it looks old. It reminds me of visiting a budget hotel that time forgot. The food at every meal was served cold, dried out and tasteless. The menu was uncreative. The entrees were the size of appetizers. [Example: Four small dumplings; pear and arugula salad or a strip of beef on top of cold salad in a soup bowl were entree.) Desserts had no taste. Giovanni’s, the only specialty restaurant on this ship, with a charge $25pp was no better than the MDR. The center of the ship is called the Royal Promenade. In the evening this area becomes clogged with entertainment, store tables, café’s, bars and people. It is almost impossible (and hazardous) to use the promenade to get to the other end of the ship. I do have say the crew is very friendly and will go out of their way for guests. But I have never had so many crew members asking to write reference cards for them. Read Less

It has been 9 years since we used RCCL and the changes have been significant. No more: ice in room (unless you ask), no more towel animals (only 3x per cruise) only one steward per room (no assistant), lower quality and choices of food, charges for nearly everything, rooms smelly and unclean and dinner dress code non-existent. Adventure of the Seas is for young drinkers and was poorly designed. Dining room in the middle of the ship. Elevators only forward and center making it a hike if your stateroom was towards the aft. RCCL compares to Carnival and certainly NOT to Holland America. We received NO help on getting boarding passes for return home and we would HAVE to purchase a minimum of one days internet ($9.95) to do that The future cruise director refused to help me and I am 70% blind. Only saving point was the Irish Pub on board but they only had one draft beer because they couldn't get their other beer taps fixed. The dinner servers were great as were the bartenders at the "Duck & Dog". Otherwise it was poor example of what RCCL used to be. We will not use again. They overdid their cost cutting. WE would rather pay a bit more and get more of what a cruise line should be. Shore excursions are way overpriced and there was a very limited choice. Much better deals at the end of the docking pier. We were told the view was partially obstructed. In reality it was totally obstructed. We booked a shore excursion that through the cruise line and they claimed we would see the oldest working rum distillery in the Caribbean. The distillery was not working and was simply a junk yard. We complained about the excursion and asked for a refund but they were not receptive to a refund. After a couple days they did agree to a 50% rebate. They did not review the excursion prior to selling it. They should not have charged us. Royal changed the gratuity policy since our last cruise with royal in 2012 and add them to your stateroom bill. No one told us about this even when we asked about paying the gratuities. So we paid gratuities and after leaving the ship found our stateroom account was also charged. I called Royal and they refused to make any refund on the doubled gratuities. Although I have felt Royal had the nicest ships, good service and good food in the past I don't believe I will sail with them again. We have sailed 5 times with Royal 2 time with their sister line Celebrity and 2 times with Princess. Princes told us the gratuities would be added to our account Royal never did. This was the worst cruise experience I have had. Read Less

Booking agent Dorothy on RC site lied at time of booking seven months ago. Thirteen in our group. We're told would get all adjoining rooms on balcony with all partitions open for us. WRONG. Not allowed. Maid told us to go get a Phillips screwdriver and take them off ourselves. We didn't. We were told anytime dining..WRONG. Forced to 8:30 eating with two children. Toilet broken..fixed after seven hours .internet SLOW for $60.00 special last three days...only worked two days and s-l-o-w. Wheel chair accessible terrible for one member. Debarkinga joke. Wheel chair member sent to dark bar on forth floor. Oops, RC meant Imperial Room on five. Booked tour of San Juan for 7:30 debarking day. Wheel chair people not on duty until 8:00 am. Two people on duty at Service Desk to handle problems that morning. Last count, twenty five people in line with problems. Won't go into salad dumped on back of member in dining area. Slot machines all broke at 5:30 pm on day at sea...many cruisers had to get dressed up for fancy night. Drinks 12.00, Soda 4.00, nothing free...nickel and dimed to death. Was offered a bottle of wine for compensation. Told them what to do with it. Web site terrible and everyone lies just to get you on the ship..we thirteen we never go RC again. This was our eight cruise for all of us so we weren't rookies. Food small portions and anything chicken very dry. Read Less

The ports were the reason we chose this cruise. But that is the only thing that was worth the trip. Customer service is NON EXISTENT. Never have I been more disappointed in the service at every single level of this ship. It started with no help with your luggage when checking in. Lazy lazy people all around with their hands in the their pockets. Now that the majority of people get the drink packages, they no longer have staff to serve you drinks. Congratulations, you pay 100% up front with tip and now you get SELF SERVICE. And you will wait a long time at the bar for the 1 bartender to make your drink. They are making a killing and the customer is getting screwed. Every single day the buffet for breakfast and lunch was EXACTLY the same. Exactly the same. And it was not good. Hamburger, hot dog, sad pizza and tacos. The deserts were something you could expect to see on a hospital tray. We went to one show, the adult comedian. He was crude and told jokes we all already knew. The beds were hard as rocks and I stayed in a Grand Suite. So I expected to have a better experience. I can tell you what I would do if you are thinking of going on this cruise. Fly to the port you most want to see. Skip the bad food, the miserable boat drill, the lazy staff, and the 28 inch single bed for a luxurious bed that you can get in a good hotel on the beach. Aruba and Curaçao have an EDUCATED and smart tourist positive group of taxi and excursion directors. I will go back to Aruba. No more cruises for me. Read Less

Bad judgement. This is an aging battle wagon, worn out, noisy and dirty. The skulking mood of the crew matches the dark tone of this worn out junk. If you love horrible cafeteria food served amongst hordes of overweight Americans you will love RCL and this ship. The sewage system which apparently is 20' from my room has been worked on for the entire cruise by an apparently puzzled staff. Late night parties that keep your grandchildren awake.....oh you will just love white night. The entire floor above us sounded like it was going to collapse. I called the operating to complain and they sent a man to our room. He basically said, "too bad, it will end at 11:30. The food in the starlight lounge was mediocre and the staff friendly enough. However when dining I prefer a crowd that dresses a little better than their best t-shirt and flip flops. Overall.....NO stars.....disgusting Read Less

The ship is worn and dated. Except for a couple of crew members the crew was under whelming and didn't care about the service they provided. I believe prepaid gratuities go a long ways in the drop off in service that we saw this cruise. RCCL no longer opens the dining room for lunch so you must go to the Windjammer cafe for lunch. The lunch menu was basically the same every day of the cruise and they continuously closed off large sections and ran out of food. This particularly happen just as people started returning from port. I had to eat gluten free and it took great effort to get gluten free bread or buns in the cafe. I often had to wait for more than 20 minutes to get it and then when I went to get items to make a sandwich or something the carved meats had run out. This ship has a nifty coffee bar/snack bar at the end of the promenade, but it was so over run with unruly teenagers it was virtually useless. We had the best head waiter and room steward of any cruise we have been on. The entertainment by the ships singers and dancers was far below what we have experienced on our other 13 cruises. There was virtually no Caribbean music played anywhere on the ship. There was no steel drum band at the pool. Mostly the only music at the pool was by a DJ and it was Rap or Disco and deafening loud. When the DJ wasn't at the pool or in late night clubs he was set up in the promenade and played the same type of music, but louder. You couldn't hear the person next to you talking even when 100 yards away. Musically the only saving grace on the ship was Bruno Aguilar in the piano bar and he was excellent. There were 2 comedians on the cruise and both were pretty vulgar even at the family entertainment time. I can't imagine what the late night adult show was like. Of course attendance at these events is optional and we chose not to attend. Musically the only saving grace on the ship was Bruno Aguilar in the piano bar and he was excellent. This cruise offered almost no enrichment activities such as classes. They offered an adult only napkin folding demonstration/class but it was so over run with 5-8 year old children that we could not participate. It was done on top of the piano in the piano bar. The crew should have advised the parents that this was an adult only class. From what the crew told us, there were about 400 more kids on this ship than usual and they were extremely loud, rude, and out of control. The parents wouldn't control them and the crew was afraid to say anything to them for fear of offending a parent. It was a safety issue as they would run and bump into people, Several times I was almost knocked down. I love kids, I have my own, but something needs to be done or someone is going to get hurt. We learned our lesson, no more late July or early August cruises out of San Juan. I am not sure we will cruise with RCCL again. We paid a lot of money for horrible cruise. We had been on RCCL ships about 6 times, Celebrity 6 times, Princess 1 time, and Carnival once and this wasa the worst experience we have ever had. We'll have to go back to Celebrity which is our favorite even though they are owned by RCCL. Read Less

Well we just returned from our 9/10/16 departure from San Juan Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas cruise,,,it was the most disappointing cruise I've ever taken...until this cruise, we have ALWAYS bragged on Royal Caribbean, but no longer. Let me first say the food, dining staff and room attendants were great..other than that....where to start. Day 1: Our stateroom AC was not working and the safe would not unlock after securing all our valuables. Called immediately (about 2pm) and was told they would have tech come investigate the AC, but we would have to be in the room for security to come look at the safe..we unpacked, went to dinner and upon return (about 8:30pm) there was a note on the bed saying the flushed the ac and changed the filter, but it was still not working. We then called again to complain about the AC and told them we were ready to have security come and fix the safe. At this time I requested a room change and was told "we are full and have no available rooms". Well, security didn't show until 11:30pm, so we wasted our entire first night of activities and spending quality time with the 5 couple friends we were vacationing with. The next AC tech didn't show up until 2:30AM and was still unable to fix the issue. So now we are HOT, have not slept and have not enjoyed our first night of activities...HORRIBLE DAY 1. Day 2: I'm awakened by guest services calling to tell me they still have not rectified the AC issue....really?..the puddle of sweat on my sheets could have told you that..anyway, we left for the day and upon return from a day of play (about 4:30pm) was told we would now be moving to another stateroom. I asked, "why could we not move yesterday upon my initial request" and was told by guest services, "I don't have an answer for that"...now it it formal night, so we dressed and right after dinner left all the activities and photo opportunities to spend 2 hours moving to our new stateroom that was further from the elevator, away from our friends and honestly the room was a bit cooler but nothing like our friends in other rooms. So now evening 2 has been wasted with the move...oh and their idea of "we'll take care of the move for you" was a stateroom attendant who brought 1 rolling luggage cart and stood outside and put our bags on the cart...really??? Other issues: 1. the service in the bars was terrible, not enough staff, waiting sometimes more than 40 minutes before ever seeing a server and most of the bartenders we encountered were rude....I inquired with one about a cocktail made with watermelon and was abruptly told, "we don't do watermelon".... 2. was looking forward to seeing Jungle Book at poolside...spent time gathering towels, getting cocktails and the movie listed at poolside in the compass was Jungle Book, but in reality it was another movie and the Jungle Book was in the screening room. There was a typo in the compass. Well by time we turned in the towels and got to screening room we were 30 minutes late and could only stay for about 20 minutes because....wait for it.....THERE WAS NO AC IN THE SCREENING ROOM!!!!. I must say, we've been loyal to RC for years and have always boasted on how RC was "The Best", well needless to say, we were horribly disappointed and will be looking at other alternatives for our next cruise.... Oh and the resolution Guest Services initially offered was a 50.00 room credit for our inconvenience. 50.00 for 2 nights of horror and lost fun...really? We finally agreed to their 35% discount on our next booked cruise, but honestly I feel they should have offered a monetary refund for the lost cruise...forget about future cruises....as we may NOT have a future with Royal Caribbean and neither will the scores of friends and family we generally sail with. Caution, if you are about to sail on the Adventure of the Seas, be warned, make sure your AC is running before you unpack and Good Luck...I hope your experience is better than ours. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the cost. It was a good deal. Maybe that was our firs mistake. The embarkation was disorganized; you didn't know what line to stand in. Next, the Windajammer Buffet was terrible. Rice and beans, hash, mashed potatoes were the first things that greeted you. Kids picking at the buffet, dropping food. As we walked down our corridor on the 7th floor, every single day there was maid carts in the way, discarded room service glasses and trays left for hours, vacuum cleaners in the aisle, even had to get out of the way of the staff vacuuming in front of the elevators. There was a bad smell in the corridors, couldn't identify it. This cruise was based out of Puerto Rico. We were told by other cruisers that residents of Puerto Rico got an insanely low cost to be on this cruise and we were definitely the minority. I believe the cuisine was catering to these folks. I will say, however, that Giovanni's Table was outstanding both nights we were there. Only good food on the cruise. Even the Dining Room food was sub par. Won't ever leave out of Puerto Rico again. 1. They need a lot more trained staff. The absence of trained staff who could speak English or knew what they were doing was very noticeable which led to poor service and lots of misunderstandings. We suspect that RCI was training new staff at our expense without having many experienced mentors. 2. The food offered at both Windjammer and the specialty restaurants was predictable, boring, mundane and unpalatable. It would not have been acceptable on an American cruise. We were on Quantum of the Seas out of NJ in Mar 16 and there was no comparison. Quantum was far superior. The prices, service and enjoyment at the specialty restaurants on Quantum were a lot better, and cheaper, than what we experienced on Ovation. 3. The shows and entertainment on Ovation were a joke. After having the 1:40 hour stage show Mama Mia, for example, on Quantum in Mar 16 to the pathetic shows offered up on Ovation were disgraceful. 4. There was no one in charge when we needed directions to get off the ship during port excursions. Everyone was wandering around trying to find where they had to be. 5. The prices being in USD were ridiculous. The AUD was not good and it added nearly 50% to our final on board bill. If you are in Australian/NZ waters, why not AUD? Princess manage to do it! 6. Our biggest gripe is that we appear to be treated as second class citizens because we are Australians. RCI would not get away with treating us like this if we were on an American/European/Caribbean cruise. 7. We are very unlikely to ever go on another RCI cruise. Read Less

Most unenjoyable cruise I have ever been on. The food was average except for the specialty restaurant which was what I remember as the quality on past cruises I have taken. Now however, it costs an additional $80.00 and the waiter expects an additional tip over and above the amount included in the std fare and in the the upgrade to specialty dining. The cabin furniture was the most uncomfortable I have ever experienced in any hotel or ship I can remember. At 5' 7" I could not even stretch out on the couch! The balcony furniture was extremely hard and difficult to sit/lie on! Requests to address remote control issues, coffee maker issues went unaddressed. We were provided bed sheets one evening with holes and stains on them. The arrival transfer to the ship required a walk of several hundred yards with baggage in tow, along with my walker and was difficult to navigate! Many staff, not all, were disinterested in offering any assistance to disabled guests. Dealing with rude customers while in a scooter was also an immense challenge. elevators that passed our floor empty were another mystery, while we waited minutes to go up or down. I have no option of using stairs! Changes were made to RCL policies after booking was made - room service charges. Beverage policies the most obnoxious I can imagine. Water at a cost of nearly $80 per case in the room is unconscionable. As a person requiring medication, and drinking from the in room water, it may have contributed to my illness on the last day of the cruise. The only saving grace was head waiter George! Not likely ever again with RCL! Read Less

Passengers were the crew's number one priority. They were always pleasant and bent over backwards to please us. Rooms were clean, food was excellent, activities were wonderful. I was disappointed with the Love and Marriage show. A couple people used very vulgar language and I hope no children were present. I realize Royal Caribbean had no control over what came out of their mouths but the people could have been briefed better prior to the show, letting them know this was a family show and no vulgar language should be used. This would not stop me from cruising with Royal Caribbean but it may deter me from attending that venue again. Also, I think you should put a clock in the Solarium pool area. Every time I wanted to know the time I had to walk over to the main pools deck. I also don't like the way you do bingo now. We played only one game "the letter T". It used to be we played many more games and had more chances to win. It was very unorganized and we got started very late. It was 4:45 and they were still selling cards. Read Less

Willi from philly in the main dinning room along with his additional staff was the only thing that made our trip worth wild. All the rest of the staff besides a handful of bartenders including marlin from the pool bar our stateroom arrendeent, flowrider and rock climbing personnel were rude short and unfriendly! The few mentioned above were the only ones who cared to talk to guest. With a party of 16 the first thing I did when we got on the ship at noon was go straight to the main pool and tip one of the servers 60$ and told him to please take care of us and we will continue to take care of him.. this particular server never returned and was rude and every day after that we saw him.. we cruise several times a year and this was my first experience on royal Caribbean and it was horrible... not to mention the only reason I booked this cruise along with 15 others was for st Lucia to hike the pitons and my son was planning on proposing on top which st Lucia was planned out and then the ship decides to inform us on a damn flyer that was handed out while boarding that st Lucia was no longer a stop... they never even had the Courtesy to verbally tell the guest of course no one in my group took this well because they all knew my sons plan. Him and his girl friend wanted to do this cruise so they could go back to st Lucia one more time for the climb it was absolutely beautiful their and we flew from FL to PR jut for st Lucia we could of easily taken a cruise out of FL if not for that... lastly due to everyone being pissed off we went to the pool started drinking and having fun now mind you our group all consisted of family including grandparents our group was in no way rude disrespectful or inappropriate yes we were drunk but it's a cruise and we all purchased the drink package so I think that's allowed but we were all standing and communicating without a problem the only person that was overly intoxicated was my sons girl friends grandmother who did not make it to the safety meeting due to being sick... security then decided to put a hold on my entire parties drink packages and would not let us have a drink or get off at the port until we had a "meeting" I just don't understand this no one was in danger or rude I have seen much more intoxicated people on a cruise. A handful of people were not even intoxicated they put the drunk people to sleep but yet you felt it was okay to decline their 363$ drink package! This is not to mention my shower backing up and flooding the bathroom every day and I requested it to be fixed every day and the day before the cruise is over it gets fixed, 2 month old milk in fridge/cooler, dirt in the bed and nasty room. Well it isn't anymore! Wait times in main dining room over an hour and a half to get a dried out shoe leather steak. Worst ever! Scandaless! Check in (San Juan) horribly disorganized, huge lines, one after another. No idea which line to join, no idea where to drop luggage, people in lines very very unhappy. Terminal in San Juan is just a metal shed, how about a nicer building? Ship is very dated, built in the 90's and it shows. Does not come close to modern design. Get rid of this class! I choose Royal Caribbean because i traveled before with them and the experience was excellent. The food quality and taste is really superior with a variety of foods from where to choose that includes low calories, vegetarian and kids menu. The Ship has plenty of things to do for the youngest to the oldest, pools, slides, casino, night clubs, the stores and the shows... The library, arcade, movies on the giant screen near the pools. The solarium where you can get away and have some quiet time by the pool or just read a book or take a nap. There was something to do always. The people who works on this cruise are passionate with what they are doing and it shows on the treatment and service you get. The ship shows an excellent maintenance inside and outside, it looks clean and you always see someone making sure of it. While in the port you may see personal washing the windows and painting or repairing whatever needs some care. My experience in the embarkation and disembarkation process was a good one, it went smoothly and took no more than 30 minutes. I am planning to take another Cruise with my wife, my son and his wife and children and I will definitely choose Royal Caribbean again. Read Less

We chose this cruise since we hear a lot of good things about this cruise line and their special program for children with Autism. We are impressed with the information in their website about this as we are traveling with our special needs son. We are excited that this cruise line will give our son the best cruise experience since the staff are trained in handling kids with Autism per their website advertisement - TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED! When we got to the ship, nobody knows about the program, even the supervisor. It was the Front Desk Manager who informed us that not all ships participate in the program. When we called customer service prior to sailing, we were informed otherwise. We were informed that there will be a special lane for us and that there will be a staff who will tour us around and tell us about the Autism Program that they have in the ship as well as special considerations with the Muster Drill. Toys specifically for the Autistic Kids as well as TV channel for them. This is was we were expecting but nothing of it exist when we got to the ship. The Guest Services Manager who called us after we left a message to RC's Facebook page informed us that somebody from concierge services will talk to us at the end of the cruise to guide us with the disembarkation process - NOBODY called us at the end of the cruise. We are very, very disappointed with our experience as well as how staff handled our issues. Dining room experience was not at par with other cruise lines. The service was not personal. We were not even addressed by our first name by our waiters. Food took long to be served and the dining experience will last for 1.5 to 2 hours! Entertainment was also not at par with other cruise lines that we experience. Will not cruise with RC again and will not recommend them at all. Read Less

Sorry but no....the guests did NOT all agree. We had no choice but to go - Largely a "plug" for Royal and a complete write off. They had other ships from those cancelled cruises that could have come and taken an entire boat full of people. The supply they dropped was a JOKE. Our itinerary was changed before cruising to an overnight in Aruba, no St. Maartin. Ok, not a problem and we scheduled things to do that night and an excursion on the second Aruba day. We were checked in, on board, when the captain said there's a "slight" change. Going to St. Maartin, not spending the night in Aruba and Bonaire is changed to the last day. THERE WAS NOTHING SLIGHT ABOUT THAT CHANGE AND NOT ACCEPTABLE AFTER I'M CHECKED IN. People all over were rushing to cancel/change plans and excursions. Dropping down to the carpet with credit cards in hand hoping to get phone connection. I will never sail with them again. One of the pools was broke for a day, elevator was broke, air system broke in the promenade, buffet was gross (and I'm NOT a picky eater) and a good portion shows visible rust. Today I called to ask if what Royal is doing about this problem. - Bottom line, I missed a day, in (or not in) St. Maartin. The lady answering left me believe she had NO CLUE what I was talking about and said there's nothing in the system for compensation. I've been on about 15 cruises and I WILL AVOID this line if I can. One last thing. There were places that were GROSS. I celebrated a 40th birthday, had a bottle of champagne and a cigar from Cuba. The smoking table where we sat was disgusting, ALL AROUND US. Bottles, butts, wrappers, glasses, etc. I NEVER would see that on Celebrity!! Read Less
