This was my least favorite RCL cruise.It was full of 500 children.Loud and noisy passengers also.The Serenity area was not quiet or serene.The hot tub was a cespool of drinkers and party types.I thought a cruise right after Thanksgiving would be quiet.How wrong I was.The front desk said it would be like that all December.My Diamond status was all screwed up.Card had issues getting my 3 drinks loaded.Roy the guest services manager comped me Chops for one night.Praises for him.Lots of pushing and shoving going on.I was on the Serenade the week prior.Had a great time.Cabin was ok on Adventure.Entertainment was good.Only got off in Cozumel.Did a chocolate and Tequila tour.It was worth the price. The Windjammer was very large and laid out well.The Promenade was a hubbub of people and activities.I had a 350 onboard credit from my RCL Visa card.Lost 200 of it in the casino.Saw people winning but not me. We did this cruise with friends on their first cruise. Quite the experience. First the good: we were in 6640, balcony cabin. Embarkation was quick easy and painless! It was very nice, good location and the bed was great. We didn't mind the lower half of balcony obstructed. The promenade deck was just below us with all the fun stuff and coffee shop! The staff were polite and friendly for the most part. The comedy shows were excellent and so was the ice show. This was our 9th cruise and with husband's retirement in a year we are looking forward to more! So to the negatives: The staff in the main dining room where we ate every night was pretty out of sync. The waits were long, food was either cold (in the beginning, they did do better later) wine was very slow as well. I got the feeling they were short-staffed. It was just chaos the first two-three nights. There was no Somalier so the wait staff brought wine - also very slow in the beginning. Getting info on just what was allowed on the drink package in the bars was also a big problem on the first day. The coffee in buffet and dining room was awful. Thank goodness for the drink package where we could get Starbucks every day. We also were on special diets because of health issues. Low carb, which means no bread, rice, potatoes, crackers, cereals. The cruise ship caters to regular eaters - I understand, but the lack of variety got boring. Carrots and broccoli every single night. The next big problem we had was the fact that on the last day was we were in a hurry to disembark to catch a flight - we had to deal with the ship charging us for drinks they claimed we were "sharing"!! No one asked us if we did this (we did not!), they just stuck it on our bill. This is such poor customer service! The buffet was also a problem in that apparently the workers in there are strictly for bussing tables. They do not bring coffee, water or flatware. So then you have to go back up to where there are tons of people with food plates and get all up in that mess again. Seems like this is a poor way to do it. The buffets are crowded enough without all the flatware being up there too. We had a few other problems too but the lack of service and the trying to sneak a charge on our bill really made me angry. We chose this cruise because I got an email from Royal Caribbean with a "great" deal and it was the time we had planned to go on vacation. The cruise was not up to the RC standards of my previous two cruises with RC. The staff were unhelpful and rude at times and just ignored us the rest of the time. They changed our dining room table number, which was fine, but neglected to tell us that it was for the entire cruise. When we went to go to our table we were rudely told that our table was changed for the rest of the cruise. When the manager realized that he had been rude to us, he tried really hard to make it up to us but still couldn't get it right. He offered to send our dinner to our cabin one night and didn't send the appetizers. He offered wine, but we don't drink wine, and sent a box of stock desserts to our cabin. In our cabin was an advertisement for $12.99/day internet. When I took it to the guest services desk we were laughed at for wanting the internet for this amount when it was normally $15.99/day. Our stateroom attendant, Tu, was awesome. My need for lactose free milk was always attended to happily except for the coffee bar on the 5th level. The ship was clean and tidy. Our cabin was dripping from the vent and it was taken care of immediately. I will think again before I take a Royal Caribbean cruise. Read Less

Live in the area and wanted to visit the itinerary listed. Boarding went smoothly, room was ready. Entered and looked over Promenade and saw the folks across the way, waved to folks in elevator as a joke, but they waved back. Also noticed security camera outside my window, so curtains stayed closed for 8 days. Only opened for nightly wine time. Food in MDR was okay, often not hot since it seemed we were far from the kitchen. Staff were attentive, Axel did a great job! Need more variety for dinners too. Didn't book excursion, too pricey on ship and long lines of complaints. Walked around ports and had fun. Need to have towel checkout moved to opposite side of ship so you don't have to walk through the smokers. Agree with others stating, perpetual upsales as you walked ship were irritating. Also, Bingo pricing way higher from 6 mths ago. Productions shows were good, skating best show on board. Comedy shows dated, Sammy singer was unintelligible, bad mike?!? Main Band was very good. Wanted to go to eastern Caribbean for daughters birthday we had the perfect cabin 1814 panoramic view on the 12 th deck our attendant was ok but not the wow attendants we have had in the past think he hated his job the casino was horrible constantly changing dealers got worse attitudes every time the most dismal part of the cruise was the MDR while the wait staff was great the food was inedible horrible over or undercooked just plain awful I have been on many Royal ships and cruises but this was terrible the pizza in promenade cafe was very good but the girl with the glasses attendant was beyond rude the port at San Juan was wonderful the fort was breathtaking and I can’t wait to get back to see all of it st Martin was just ok st kitts was terrific such nice people and good food which was a relief after the slop served on the ship even Giovanni’s was horrid I’m not kidding while I remain loyal to Royal I am diamond on my next cruise if I run into the variety and quality of food like this again I will be forced to look elsewhere for my 3 or 4 cruises a year so sad because in my opinion royal needs to stop penny pinching and give the cruisers what they pay for Read Less

Royal Caribbean delivers with this ship / itinerary and crew! First: Myths from other reviews I have read: 1) Elevators - All were in service for this trip, yes there was some waiting at peak traffic times. Our Trip Embarkation at Fort Lauderdale was seamless. From curbside to Windjammer in roughly 20 minutes. We did as much online registration as we could before arrival (including photo's for the Seapass), and at Platimum travelers, we were on board in no time at all. Labadee Haiti - We hung out on the beach and a few of us did the jet ski excursion. This is good vbalue for your money as we were a solid hour on the water and it you are an experienced rider you get to the front of the pack. I've rented in FL and other Caribbean ports before, and this operation is good value for your money - also, if you have never jet skied before, this is an excellent opportunity to learn. San Juan - We did the "old / new' San Juan tour. This was a nice local ride around the city with the driver stopping at a number of points of interest for photo / bathroom breaks. On this day, he was trying to avoid stopping while it was raining, but overall this one had good value for your $$. St. Martin - We did the 'double decker' tour that included a stop at Maho Beach. This was a good trip - folks on the upper deck were roasted in the sun, however none of this tour was rushed and it was well paced. They did not go to the French side of the island because of hurricaine damade. St. Kitts - We did the 4 x 4 Rain Forest tour that was run by "Greg's Safari"... Greg is a 5th generation resident of St. Kitts, and of all our shore excursions this one was the best! Entertainment: 1) The cruise director, Mercedes, does an excellent job throughout the trip. 2) The Duk & Dog pub had Cat Wells singings & playing the guitar - we saw her about 2 years ago on Freedom and she puts on a great show for the "pub" environment. 3) Schooner Bar had a pianoman by the name of Giovanni. So Giovanni is from Italy and has a obvious accent when speaking, however he puts on an American accent while singing - it took a little getting use to, but he kept the crown engaged. 4) We ate ALL our meals in the Main Dining Room, all were excellent, the right temperature and once again is a sign you don't need to spend extra in a specialty restaurant to enjoy your meal. Head Waiter IDA and Assistant Joanna were a great combination. One night Ida brought his guitar to the MDR and at about the 7:15 mark we had a sing along - others in our group played Ida's guitar and sang - it was a great night. 5) Public areas = well kept. 6) Windjammer, what can I say? Provided you don't want to eat between 12:00 - 12:45, there were usually short wait times and plenty of tables available. 7) Disembarkation... This was a little odd, but not a show stopper. They had a forward and aft meeting areas. Then as you approached the gangway to get off there were 2 security checkpoints facing in each direction. After the checkpoint the opposing lines of passengers had to merge into 1 line to step onto the gangway. At this point it was obvious that some couples and families got seperated for a short time. You spend most of the week walking around the vessel, so why not merge everyone before clearing the security check point? Anyhow, in closing, this vacation, again, exceeded my expectations... My wife and I are diamond members of RCI, with over 128 nights of cruising on RCI. I purchased this cruise a year ago, the price was good, and we had not cruised on this ship before so we bit. We were Royal fans but the fun is wearing off and cruising with Royal is becoming just average. The things that attract us to cruising is 1. Price, 2. dance venues, 3 the service and food and of course the ship itself. The ports of call are ok if you do your homework before getting on board, so have a plan so you don't blow your days out there. The ship seems to be in a clean and in serviceable condition. The interior cabin was small but the steward did a good job keeping us happy. The main dinning on deck three was ridiculously slow and the food was just so-so. Most of the week we just visited the buffet which was good. Unfortunately the Boleros dance club is right next to the casino, were the smoke pores out and ruins a good evening with excellent live bands. I could smell the smoke on deck six, what a shame. I don't like smelling of smoke and leaving there with a headache, so after three nights I had had enough. I thought the show in the Theater were better than average and the ice show was great. The diamond club was ok if that's your thing to sit and drink for hours on end. Disembarkation on the last day was haphazard, in RCI tradition of ship of that size, with one person directing foot traffic. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it occurred after hurricane season and it was presented to us as a ship that had recently been renovated. The ship was clean and the staff very friendly although not very knowledgeable of the ship's functions. When we would ask informational questions the answers that were given were incorrect. Their offer was that you did not need to purchase the internet to use texting on the ship but that was not true. We never did get their app to work correctly until after we purchased the internet package for a day. Also RC only allows smoking in the casino. The entire time of walking through the main deck from our room to the Windjammer it was so smoke filled that we could hardly take a breath without smelling smoke. this was the third cruise we took with RC but feel that what was presented to us on the website and what we actually experienced were two different things. The beds in the cabin were very old and hard......so not very comfortable. However, the food in he Windjammer was great.....it was very appetizing and they take every precaution to make sure that their presentation of it was well done. Overall I would not recommend this ship just because of the second hand smoke. I am a person who has asthma and my lungs were congested throughout the ship. We were a four person cruise but all agreed we would never book a cruise on Adventure of the Seas and think this ship should be retired from service. Read Less

We always arrive the night before so that no worries about cruising. Several hotels offer parking with $20 per person for a shuttle to and from the cruise port. The boarding process in Ft Lauderdale was well organized with friendly receptionists. A new twist is your room card is not handed out at check in, it is in an envelope outside your room. The cabin stewards were extremely nice and helpful. The dining staff was very friendly and accommodating. We have always found main dining of good quality, so never pay about $100 to $135 for specialty. Seems nuts to do that. Lobster and good stakes always available during the week no charge. Flow Rider is dangerous! Lady broke her leg falling off. Everyone except the professionals had severe falls. The entertainment was some good some bad. The singers were the poorest of any on our 20+ cruises. They were so poor that it detracted from superior dancers. We laughed at the comedy shows. Ice show is very good, just bring a jacket because the room is cold. The casino supervisors were the worst I have ever seen. They acted afraid to confront unruly passengers. Getting off at ports was not an issue with 30 minute wait time the longest and 5 minutes the shortest. Casino dropped off letter last day with $500 discount on future cruise. It surprised me because I only played total of 6 hours entire trip. When setting at table first night always get $700 from dealer. Just put the money in your pocket and play normal. They think you are a gambler and will get a discount coupon later in the week! We did self assist at 6:30am. Back at hotel and on the road home by 7:30!!! Read Less

Embarkation and disembarkation were smooth in spite of security delays by incompetent port and customs personnel, that anyone feels more secure by this grandstanding is amazing. The ship was well maintained, but the decor and furnishings looked dated. Activities ran the standard, but things like the rock wall, ice skating, surf rider and water slides were severely time restricted. Bar service is very slow especially in the pool areas in spite of paying $403 for a unlimited bar package. The drinks are generally short poured as well which adds to the insult considering the duty and tax free prices the ship must acquire the alcohol for. Bar tenders always use shot jiggers because they're too incompetent to shot pour so you get the added bonus of whatever is on their hands in your drink when they pour. Maybe someone should make a fecal contamination study to determine why there are so many ship borne illnesses. Dining and cabin service were very good. 10 plus cruiser so did not use the excursions desk. If you are new to cruising, just go into port and strike a deal. You'll always save at least 10 percent and up to 50 percent if you really do your homework on Tripadvisor. Standing in line for other customer service issues I always meet people who are there fixing a problem with the excursions desk. The cabins are dated looking and our toilet malfunctioned overflowing and spilling into the cabin a small bit. Access to the toilet water shut off was in a locked closet outside our stateroom to which the cabin service person did not have a key and had to bail poop water into the shower until the maintenance people finally arrived after multiple frantic calls by my wife and the cabin steward. The bed was comfortable. The air conditioning was insufficient on some days. The main dining room was very good with a good variety each day and excellent service. When ordering you should always get two each of appetizer, entree and desert to try different things, but please tip the wait staff for this extra effort. Also no corking fee if you bring your own uncorked wine to dinner to which you are allowed two bottles per cabin. The Windjammer buffet was great for breakfast and lunch, but the variety has become very limited. I don't think they realize that when I see a buffet pepperoni pizza slice with one pepperoni slice, I'm just going to get four pieces, combine the pepperoni slices onto one piece and throw the other three pizza slices in the trash. That's not a cost reduction. On a previous Royal Caribbean ship the variety was much better. The entertainment this trip was a 5 out of 10 for some reason, previously I gave it a 9 out of 10 for my last cruise with Royal Caribbean. The Ice Skating show was great, but the main evening shows were not great and poorly attended as well. Finally, the customer service desk personnel are the most incompetent double speakers on the planet. Nothing is their fault, nothing can be done supposedly because of something you did when you registered, etc. I spent 1.5 hours trying to get my kids $40 each to play in the video arcade, and the kids finally gave up after figuring out how to use all six of our cabin account cards in a frustrating approval/denial cycle of doom. In summary, this cruise line has declined drastically from the last time I used them, things are getting dated, cost reduction seems to be the main goal which you can offset with some work, but I don't go on cruises to work.
