Adventure of the seas 8N cruise Bahamas and perfect day Stayed overnight at doubletree Hilton. Free airport shuttle and $25 to the port. Wasn't happy they threw my luggage in the back of their free airport shuttle and as only 2 other people the bad slid around and was black not red! I still can't get it clean. Hotel excellent, and had swimming pool, cafe and Starbucks. Cruise Check in was quite quick although the queue for security was long and this was 10.30am. Once onboard there was a long queue waiting for the buffet Windjammer restaurant to open. Best avoided so went to cafe on deck 5 for a cheese and ham sandwich instead. Signs at guest services saying no upgrades as full. I did receive several emails since I paid for my cruise asking me to bid for an upgrade so it would appear unlikely you would now get any free upgrades or be able to pay for any onboard, instead they will go to the highest bidder. I selected my balcony cabin location right by the elevators so didn't want the upgrade anyway. Cabins opened just after 1pm. If you have ever bought a new build house you will understand what I mean when I say I then went on to 'snag' the room for issues. The TV volume would not turn down and was so loud I had to keep it off. The cabin steward said he has reported it but on day 2 I called maintenance myself and they sent an electrician within 30 minutes who advised it was a faulty cable. Several hours later after dinner they swapped the cable and it then worked fine. The sink tap was spraying water all over me as was probably clogged with lime scale and spraying everywhere, the cupboard door to the safe was loose on one of the hinges and almost fell off and one of the balcony chair seats was very dirty. The air con also doesn't seem to work properly either. Again my room steward said he reported these issues on day 1. On day 3 I rang maintenance again myself and within half an hour the tap spray was swapped and works perfectly now and he called a colleague who sorted the cupboard door also. Should I really have to do these things, I would suggest the room steward or supervisor should test these things. You should book my cabin 8622 I have had it fixed! Surprisingly I didn't have to ask for my free drink and welcome gift for crown and anchor which I normally spend two days chasing so that was good. I pre booked arcade credit as it came with a bonus amount so I had a letter in cabin to go to the arcade and dial a number. I did this and was told to just put my card in the machines and it will work out the credit. A nice man appeared and was very helpful, showed me how it all worked. A lot of machines were broken, poorly stocked or simply would not accept the sea pass card. You win tickets and can claim them at a machine in the arcade room on the last evening from 7pm. Needless to say we had to stand around waiting for someone else to arrive as the machine was broken! Then we had to wait whilst all the kids took forever choosing their prizes. Casino credit - was told can use OBC in the casino at no charge. You transfer the money on the machines. They have instructions in the casino. Unfortunately the casino was ruined by the smoking as usual. It goes through the whole casino and not just the smoking section. This is very poor RC. The staff are very unhappy here and are worried about the smoke to their health. People were using the casino as a smoking room instead of going outside. I walked through when it was closed and there were 2 people smoking. Entertainment was good. Mix of dancers and comedians as well as a fabulous entertainer. Dinner was busy in the windjammer most nights which is unusual. It was often busy but plenty of tables in the evening for those not wanting to go down to the restaurant. I had to live on Frosted flakes for breakfast as there were no weetabx. They also had no salad cream which normally I manage to find a bottle hidden away. The restaurant manager told me they've never had it. My reply was that on my last 20+ cruises, I must have imagined it then! I struggled to find any cooked vegetables, broccoli some days but lots of fried food and potato wedges - same all week. It was much better last year. Lovely man in the Windjammer looked after me and was very helpful. He even went to get me some French fries the last evening when they were not on the buffet. Diamond lounge - lovely to see Christopher there again, nothing was too much trouble and he even helped me find something to do the last day whilst waiting all day for my flight. Buffet continental breakfast is served in the diamond lounge although they don't have cereal in there now so was a bit disappointed. Also no snacks during the say when I went in there. I guess it gets wasted so no point putting too much out but would have been nice to find a few cookies. Diamond and above guests please note that guest services advised RC's new policy is to open all cans in the happy hour promotion (5-8pm offer). So where we get 3 X free drinks per day, if we choose to have soda cans, they now open them. I was given two cans of Coke Zero open which I then wasted as couldn't drink two at once. I like to save one for the next afternoon. Apparently they tell me they now open them so we don't give them away! I said look, I don't drink alcohol so I want my free cans of soda to enjoy when I like. If this is your new policy I will still give them away opened or waste them. I suggested RC stop those people who are costing them a fortune drinking for 3 solid hours alcohol at the free bar each night rather than worry about a few cans of soda. I am really cross having got to diamond plus I may now have to switch to P&O!!! The 3 free drinks is a perk I have spent a lot of money with RC to get. Port info: Very little information on each port, maps were not given out unless you went to some sales talk! They just wanted to talk about the overpriced stores and bamboo sheets. I assume they get commission? The Ship ha the usual merchandise, and overpriced general items. I even gave one guest some Ibuprofen for a headache as they were a small fortune in the shop. Usual $10 tat sale as I call it. Day 3 Port Canaveral - very hot! Harmony of the Seas had taken the best dock right by the Exploratory Tower so we ended up too far away to walk to anything by the Port and certainly is this 90F plus heat. There was nothing you could walk to and one of the few attractions nearby was also closed Sunday's. I got off to check I hadn't missed anything but just got bombarded by these giant flies which were everywhere. If not been before, would have done the trip to Kennedy but as we did that in November we stayed on board. Disappointed we couldn't walk to anything. Other people cancelled their tours to Disney as it was just so oppressively hot. Found some people who went to Universal Studios and they said it was unbearable and couldn't queue in this heat. Day 4 Miami - loads of cruise ships in port as you would expect. We docked on the starboard side, walked through the terminal to the HOHO buses. I booked this $49 tour on board as had lots of OBC otherwise would have bought cheaper on shore. Lots of people selling tours ashore and cheaper. They didn't tell us that we would queue for 45 minutes to get a bus that then dropped us off 5-10 mins away to then stand and wait for the proper bus to start the tour. We were left stood next to buses with engines running, it was so hot, 91F/33C in the shade plus the heat from the buses. A lady then shouted we were in the line for the blue route and we would not get on the next bus so would have another 30 minutes to wait after the next one arrived, so she said we could queue for the red bus route and moved us further along. There was no organisation, it was a free for all when the bus came. Nobody dare get off as they knew they would not get a seat back. No air con downstairs, I guess as open top buses but very poor for a hot city. I wouldn't be surprised if people were unwell due to the heat. Even with the windows open downstairs there wasn't much of a cool breeze, in fact it was a warm breeze most of the time. Other than then beach and shops, there wasn't much to see. After the tour ended we had to get off the bus and wait another 20 minutes for the bus back to the Ship. Total waste of $49 as had been to Miami before. Took 4 hours to do nothing. I did give the diamond concierge feedback which he did log and I would have left it at that but as I was infuriated at being given two cans of coke open (total waste) I went to guest services to complain. The excursions manager did call me to discuss and offered a 50% refund which was fair. Day 5 Nassau - docked furthest away so four ships in front of us. On the port side so I had a view of the ocean, ships the other side. I booked the morning essential Nassau tour in advance saved ten dollars. This was a fantastic tour. The only thing I was unhappy about was the man who decided to walk us from the furthest dock to the bus (a good 5-8 minute walk) just as the rain fell down. To say we were all soaked was really an understatement. I took out a cardigan to cover me but it was literally wringing wet. Needless to say the rain stopped after ten minutes and the man abandoned us for another ten minutes. Like they couldn't have waited for the heavy shower to pass! It took 2 hours to dry out. We went to the rum cake factory, Atlantis, the rum factory and more, it was great. Restrooms at every place. Had 3 other ships in with us so was busy around the shops/market right by the port. You can walk wall around this area. There is even a McDonalds just round the corner by the Hilton. Be prepared to haggle at the stalls though. Change was given in local currency at one of the shops on the tour so ask if paying cash whether it's USD change or Bahamas currency. Day 6 the much talked about Perfect Day, Coco Cay We docked on the left as you look at the island so the whole island was to the back of the ship as we had turned around. Grandeur was also in port. Little open mini buses took us from the ship exit to the island. They were driving a little fast! The water park looks amazing. There is also the balloon but it looked too swaying to tempt me. There are a number of shops in huts to the left of the island. Unfortunately I am very fair skinned to cannot stay out in the sun for more than a hour or so, even with factor 50 on. They were selling factor 70 and one lady factor 100 cream in the huts. There was very little shade on the island, some under the food places but not all tables were in the shade. Also you had to venture off the path through sand and sharp shells to find a table. They need to work on this which I'm sure they are doing. Also all the restrooms all had queues for the ladies. Enjoyed seeing the island but too hot for me and set my heat rash off! Internet package $15.99 for the basic one device if purchased for the duration of the cruise, 24 hour pass gone up to $22.99. Slow connection but handy to keep in touch with family and friends. I tried to download the Uber app for cheaper taxi to the airport but the pictures where you have to select store fronts etc. just would not load as it was too slow speed. Disembarkation - transfer to Newark airport it was $27.50 and left at 7.40am only! The excursions booklet had 2 X 4 hour tours leaving at 9.30am (note meeting time is 8.30 in lounges to get you out, collect luggage and through customs etc). At the back of the booklet it said have a late flight, after 3.30pm we have late tours - what they actually meant was the tours in the booklet would get you to the airport for flights after 3.30pm - total waste of time confusing people! They went on to do the same with just airport transfers saying if not in a hurry and flights after 3pm book a transfer to Newark ($27.95) or Times Square ($44.95)Again, they meant only one bus for each, both at 7.40am!!! Seriously! Excursion desk were not helpful at all. They offered no long tours or later tours and said latest time to get off her ship was 9.45am. I was going to book one of the tours but they were all cancelled as they didn't have enough people to run them. So, I was left with nothing to do and a flight at 10pm at night! RC were not helpful at all. I asked if there was luggage storage at the airport and they gave me a leaflet for storage in New York. I google one near the HOHO bus and it said sorry this location is temporarily closed. The rest appeared to be self storage. For those not knowing New York this was not good. Can someone please set up a business collecting luggage from the cruise ship on departure day and returning to the airport or nearby later. Surely a profitable business. I opted to leave at 9.30am, but was told final call to leave around 8.30am. I was going to get a taxi but there was a shuttle for just $20. Ok, so it went to the Hilton and Best western first but didn't take long. Far cheaper than a taxi if just one person. Met a lovely family also from the UK on the shuttle. Worth noting you can get a day room for around $79 plus tax $90 if you have a late flight. Newark Airport - Delta wouldn't let me check in nor offload luggage saying had to wait for virgin Atlantic (code share) staff at 5.30pm. No luggage storage they say after 9/11. However, I was able to walk all around the airport and get within 50 feet of aircraft on the AirTrain with a suitcase that had not been scanned/checked. This is really poor security. So I had 12 hours to kill before my flight. A lovely man in the shop suggested I take the shuttle outside P4 on the AirTrain to The Mills at Jersey Gardens shopping mall. I took the AirTrain around the terminals, just 2 stops and was at P4. The shuttle was outside waiting. $5 one way, $9 return. They accept luggage and even put it onboard for me. The mall is 10 minutes away, buses every half hour and he even gave me the timetable. It is huge! I never covered half. Really good prices and on designer stuff like handbags. I'm not a big shopping fan but really enjoyed this. Luckily I had my suitcase so wedged some things in! Another option with a late flight is to take the train to Manhattan. Follow signs to AirTrain at Newark airport and buy a ticket at the machine right at the AirTrain entrance (I think they were orange/blue). Buy a ticket to New York Penn station (not Newark Penn station). This ticket will cover both the AirTrain and the N Transit train. Take the AirTrain to Newark Liberty International Airport AirTrain station. Takes 10 mins max. Then get off the AirTrain and get on the NJ Transit train going to New York Penn Station. There are signs at the station. Download a map online. Once there, you can either walk around or get the underground to the main sights. You may be able to find a luggage storage location! Read Less

I was on Anthem of the Seas last spring and had an amazing cruise with a group of six people, which was my very first cruise. A week after being on Anthem we booked another cruise on Adventures of the Seas, this time we added two more people to our group making it a total of eight people. ( 5 women and 3 men ) The women in our group all had issues with cleanliness of the rooms and not completely satisfied with their dinner meals. Overall I was pretty pleased with my cruise however the music being played throughout ship was horrible to say the least. Half of the music selection was in Spanish and the acoustics were also terrible and even worse if someone was trying to make an announcement over the speakers. I found that the selection of music that I could actually understand ( English ) wasn't upbeat at all and the few songs played that were actually good songs were actually depressing songs. One would think being on a cruise the cruise director would want everyone to be upbeat and cheerful. Perhaps my next cruise I'll have to make sure to bring my own music and entertain myself. The staff on Adventures of the Seas, were all very nice and professional from my experiences with them however the crew didn't appear to be happy. Which was the complete opposite from Anthem of the Seas, their staff was very enthusiastic, fun and entertaining. Before disembarking Adventures of the Seas we stopped by the Next Cruise desk and to our surprise the next cruise offer was twice the price for one less day than the current cruise. Needless to say not one of the eight people in out group was up for paying double, so we will look for other options for our next cruise. Read Less

We celebrated my husband's birthday by taking this cruise. I purchased the birthday package where the room and door was decorated and included a picture frame and picture hanger as well as a cake and chocolate covered strawberries. The decorations were nice but due to all the other food on the ship the cake and strawberries went to waste. Probably best to save your money and bring your own decorations if you were to do this. The entertainment and crew were wonderful. Our cabin was inside on the seventh deck and very quiet there. We were in the front so very close to the entertainment venues. Our stateroom attendant was Lizbeth and she was terrific. The food was plentiful and I guess about average. There were some items that were exceptional (loved the roasted veggies in the Windjammer) and some that were lackluster (beef was tender but not much flavor in the dining room) but the wait staff were all very good. The Weather was not good for doing much on the outside decks but there were other options through out the ship. As with all cruises there were a lot of events where they are trying to sell you things. My husband and I found the price for 3 games of Bingo was more then we wanted to invest so we skipped on that. Lots of Trivia games and Karaoke. My favorite port of call was Bar Harbor, Maine but that was also the Port where we had the best weather. It was a quaint town that had lots to explore. Overall we would do it again....just maybe a week or two later in the year. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I like Royal Caribbean and I didn't have to drive! But there are so many more reasons to take this cruise. The ship and staff, activities and lounge areas...all top notch! The Promenade Deck was a great place to hang out, lots of activities go on, theme music nights..great for a party atmosphere. The Activities staff were lively, friendly, and funny. There were more Trivia and other activities on this ship then I've seen on other cruises. Some were new and interesting (not just the Quest Game). We found the Imperial Room a comfortable place for a variety of activities. Schooner Bar was the trivia location...too small for the size of the crowds that attend the activity, so get there early if you want a good seat. The only negative regarding entertainment is the Production shows. I found them boring, hokey and out of date. But the comedians, and the mentalist were very good. There are electronic boards near the elevators with touchscreens you can use to find out what activities are going on, and to find your cabin! Bar Harbor is beautiful..if you want to shop and eat, no need for excursions, St. John and Halifax, I would recommend excursions, not much to do in the immediate area of port. Read Less

I booked this cruise as a birthday surprise for my wife because we had always heard that Royal Caribbean was better than Carnival, which we normally sailed on. Unfortunately, 'Adventure of the Seas' was not the adventure we wanted, with an extremely hard bed, little food variety/taste, and heavy smoking in the casino. Also, a change was made to our requested dining time, but Royal Caribbean didn't bother to notify me ahead of time, nor at time of check-in. Although the embark/debark process went smoothly, even with pierside power outage during debarkation. However, the poor conditions of the roadways (major potholes), open parking (garage was full), and dock area indicates that neither Royal Caribbean nor the state of New Jersey have decided to spend much on infrastructure. We decided to forego Windjammer upon embarkation and tried Johnny Rockets even though we had to pay for the food. Wait for food was excessive even though they knew they'd have a crowd, and even though the staff was apologetic, the food service managment should be more prepared. When we did try the Windjammer later in the afternoon, the food was cold and bland, and it didn't improve much over the course of the week. Dinner in the dining room was better, but there was a minimal change in the menu throughout the week. Our servers, Jose and Arico, were excellent, and attempted to provide us a personlized service as they ran between the several tables they were responsible for. Ashore, we enjoyed walking around both Bar Harbor and Halifax because they had a small-town feel and there was so much nearby to do/see, even without excersions. Although St. John was nice and there were some things close by the port, it was as conducive to wandering around and finding "local" things to do as the other two ports. Aboard ship, the entertainment was good, but the ship's orchestra was excellent. We really enjoyed hearing them play, and they even let one of the crew put on an Adele night with a program she developed. We normally enjoy sitting around the piano bar in the evening and sing along with everyone esle, but this ship's venue was open to a major passage fore/aft, so the number of people in a crowded area didn't help accoustics. We've already committed to a friend to go on a Royal Caribbean cruise again this winter, and we're hopeful that the next ship can redeem the cruise line in our minds or we'll move on permanently. I picked this cruise based on itinerary and date; 3rd time on the Adventure but on Caribbean itineraries. We were a group of 7 adults (all have cruised before several times except for my 80 yrs old friend) We had embarkation time for 10:30am. (Highly recommend this time)Took a taxi on EWR and it took us like 20 minutes to Cape Liberty (no traffic because it was early). It was like $13 per person with tips each way. Embarkation was really smooth (be sure to have Sail Pass and Passport on hand) and before 11am we were aboard! You can bring up to 12 cans of soda or water bottles with you. The ship is still beautiful but cabins look outdated (old decor, pillows were not that comfortable). Guest Service was outstanding! My 80 years young fracture her hand the day before the trip and was on cast. We asked the stateroom attendant to put a rollaway bed in the room since none of the 3 (my mom, my aunt and her) were able to climb to ladder for the 3rd bed. He did that immediately but since there was no space to walk in the room I went to Guest Services to see if they could do something. Ten minutes later they gave us another stateroom adjacent to my sister’s so my senior friend could be comfortable! Yes! That’s right! No charge! I was amazed by their empathy and great service. All employees were super nice and helpful. Food in Windjammer was great all days. On MDR food was good but not much variety (Exactly same menu we had on Freedom Of the Seas last May). Would have preferred the Windjammer for dinner. Except for the Ice show and a singer/comedian show the rest was low quality and boring. Very disappointed with singers and shows; expected more from RC. Port of calls were amazing. Loved Bar Harbor and Halifax!! Toured on our own. Highly recommend Acadia’s National Park with Oli’s Trolley on Bar Harbor. In Halifax we rented a minivan with Dollar (inside the Lobby of the Hotel across the street) and drove to Peggy’s Cove. Beautiful place! Late May was very cold both at sea and in ports (low 40’s on Ports!) but had a great time. Debarkation was very easy and smooth. Read Less

Sailing out of Bayonne (40 miles from home) was luxuriously convenient. This ship was larger than our first cruise (on Brilliance), but never really felt crowded. We were less-than-impressed with food in the main dining room, and will probably plan for upgraded/specialty dining every night on future cruises. The three specialty restaurants were all excellent, as one might expect. Our cabin was amazing - much larger than we expected, and very comfortable. Needs more outlets, though. Our room attendant, Emina, was wonderful. In Bermuda, we did a five-hour wraparound tour of the island with Juanita, the owner of Bermuda Island Tours and More (booked through Viator). She is a native Bermudan and former police officer on the island, so she knows everything there is to know. Highly recommended. In Nassau, we did the half-day Pearl Island excursion. Lovely beach island and a nice lunch (BBQ chicken and fried grouper, with rice-and-beans and cole slaw). Overpriced drinks, but that's to be expected. We had dinner at the Green Parrot Harbourfront, which was a very nice restaurant - but even though it's only 3/4 mile from the ship, walking there is NOT recommended. We walked through a pretty sketchy part of town. We were disappointed with the piano player in the Schooner Bar. Somewhat limited repertoire. We very much enjoyed the Champagne Bar, and the Rockstar cocktail (or a variation thereof) is going to be my new summer sipper. We did not attend any of the entertainment (my husband did karaoke one night and had a lot of fun, he told me) nor did we use the fitness and recreation facilities. We indulged in a hot-rocks couples massage at the spa, which was wonderfully relaxing. Read Less

My friend and I chose this repositioning cruise because of the great itinerary and even better price. Embarkation was relatively quick and straightforward; complicated only by unprofessional and unpleasant power-mad ground staff in the holding area. Once onboard, we soon had a drink in hand and were exploring the ship (second time on this ship for me). The ship is elegant, clean and well set out. It is easy to get around - we chose a cabin at the back of the ship for ease in getting to the Windjammer, MDR and Diamond club. While slightly tucked away, interior cabin 9477 was comfortable, clean and so quiet! My bed was on its last legs and needed to be replaced but I still slept well. We struggled a little for storage and only had 6 coat hangers between 2 of us. We asked for more but received only plastic hangers for trousers which were no use to 2 females, so get in early with your hanger requests if you are short. The pool and sun decks were great, but good luck in trying to get a Solarium sunbed in the sun after 7am... I was pleased that Royal has turned down the volume on the outdoor pool screen - so much more peaceful than with that noise blasting out. The bar staff all over the ship were friendly and quick. The shows in the theatre were a bit hit and miss with some of the singers being better than others. There were also a number of one-off shows which clashed with second seating dinner, which was annoying. I was disappointed that there was only 1 ice show on a 12 night cruise and I question what is the point in having an ice rink and skaters if not to perform? Some of the comedians were funny, others less so. I guess that comes down to personal taste. The piano singer in the Schooner bar was great and we enjoyed the various parties on the Promenade. The food on this ship was outstanding. The food and service in the MDR was fantastic and the quality and choice in the Windjammer was impressive. We also enjoyed the snacks on the Promenade for lighter bites. In my view, there is no need to pay for speciality dining on this ship, the food is so good. We attended the Murder Mystery evening at Giovanni’s Table and had a great time with unlimited wine and great fun. Save for the filet mignon which is charged extra in the MDR, the food was no better than in the MDR, so if I’d just paid for standard speciality dining, I would have been pretty peeved. The Murder Mystery is a lot of fun so I would recommend it, if it’s your kind of thing. Aruba, Curacao and St Thomas were beautiful islands. Jolly Beach in Antigua was simply amazing. In Bonaire, we rented a golf buggy (Bonaire Cruisers) and explored the island at our leisure. This was a really fun way to explore the island and I would highly recommend it. It would just have been nice to have more time on all of the islands. The port days seemed to be pretty short. I love this size of ship as I find cruising to be more relaxing when there is no schedule to keep to, with shows etc booked months in advance due to the number of people onboard. I also noted throughout the cruise that the crew were happy in their roles and nothing was too much trouble for them, which created a really pleasant and relaxed atmosphere onboard. I’m not sure that is always the case on the Oasis class ships. Overall we had a fantastic cruise with wonderful food and drink, beautiful ports of call and good entertainment. I would happily cruise on the Adventure again. Read Less

This was a 12 day southern repositioning cruise that I really didn’t have high expectations for because I knew it was a smaller and older ship. But let me tell you Royal Caribbean really makes sure to keep the old looking new. The food was great and the buffet had a different theme of food every night, so there was always food for everyone’s taste. The staff was the best I have encountered on all of my cruises, and the room was very spacious and was extremely comfortable. The shows were okay. That’s probably the biggest complaint I have is the fact that most the shows were just musicals and not really what my family and I enjoyed. Except the hypnosis show which was probably one of the best I've seen on any ship. They had plenty of activities throughout the day and night, and the itinerary was great. Overall, this was one of the best cruises my family and I took and we can’t wait to get on the adventure again! Read Less

This was a deal I could not pass up. A once in a lifetime opportunity that gave me a chance to cruise like I have not in all my 40+ cruises. The Owner's Suite has more storage than 15 Oasis of the Seas ocean view balcony cabins combined. I was on the Oasis of the Seas in an ocean view balcony cabin in March 2019 and was very disappointed with storage. Left much to be desired, especially in the bath room. I had an issue with the balcony. It is not very long and extremely narrow. Could barely hold 2 chairs, 1 round glass topped table and one chaise lounge. The bathroom was amazing with a full shower, toilet, bidet, two sinks and a jacuzzi tub. The lighting in the cabin takes some getting used to. A metal plate with tiny round black buttons; mounted next to the main door and with two smaller plates in the bedroom, are used for all lighting in the cabin. The buttons were each labeled but the printing is tiny and faded. For such a large cabin the "dining table" only had 2 chairs. Plus the table has an annoying knob type thing mounted in the middle of the table. Would be nice if the table top was perfectly flat. The suite lounge was a fabulous experience and I got a chance to meet some very nice people. I chatted with more people on this one cruise than in my last 10 cruises. Food and service was good. Service in the main dining room was fabulous. Specialty dining was okay, the food and service was not any better than in the main dining venue. A person expects better service and better quality food when paying extra. All things considered the Adventure of the Seas was an excellent cruise. My last Voyager class ship cruise was on the Explorer of the Seas in October 2001. I am looking forward to cruises on the Anthem and Oasis of the Seas ships in 2020. Read Less

Smoothest embarkation and disembarkation yet.This was my 9th cruise and royal has it down to a science. We self assisted off and were in our shuttle before we were supposed to be getting off the ship. Adventure is a nice size ship, not too big and not too small. Cabins were very clean and this ship is hardly dated at all. Plenty of closet/storage space and mini fridge. The water slides are a blast. Dinner in the main dinning room is great. And the crew are the best and so very friendly. All seem to really love their jobs. Services was excellent all around. Loved our itinerary with a sea day, 4 ports and end with two more sea days. I highly recommend the Golden Eagle catamaran/snorkel excursion thru RC at St. Martens. Excellent snorkeling/beach and friendly crew. We did a walking tour of Old San Juan that included the fort-private tour for 6 of us through cruise planners. Ricky was great. St. Kitt's excursion was Capitol and Beach thru Island Paradise Tours that I found on Cruise Critic. Also a private tour for 8 of us. Only $37pp-great price and Stanley was a very nice guide that took good care of us. St. Martens, Labadee and St. Kitt's are all beautiful ports and a must see. The water is so blue. Ship is very relaxing or as wild as you want to be. From relaxing poolside to singing karaoke in the Schooner bar or gambling in the casino. We had six adults and all agree we would do this itinerary again! My adult nephew praised the gym. Said it was great for his daily work out. Read Less

We picked this cruise since it was 8 nights, a great price, and went to one of our favorite ports (St. Maarten). It had been 3 years since we last sailed on Royal Caribbean due to them having limited sailings (seasonal only) on the West Coast. In that time, we have sailed on Holland America, Princess, and several Carnival West Coast cruises. Overall, Royal Caribbean is still our favorite cruise line. Flying from the West Coast, we arrived the night before the cruise. We picked our hotel based upon free airport, and cruise port, shuttle transfers. The Quality Inn Cruise Port South met both these requirements. The airport shuttle runs until 12:30 AM which matches the flights arriving at Ft. Lauderdale Airport. However, due to a Southwest flight delay passing through Denver, our adult daughter arrived at 12:40 so a taxi ($25) was needed for her. The hotel is located next to McDonalds and Taco Bell. Within walking distance are several other restaurants and a K-Mart. Guests can make last minute purchases (wine?) or grab a bite to eat after a long flight. The hotel itself is old, but is fine for one night. The morning breakfast was better than expected and the shuttle to the cruise port was the most organized we have ever seen in our many Florida cruises. With the free shuttles, it was worth the price. We had a scheduled boarding time of 1:00-1:30 PM. Due to the 11:00 hotel check out time, and shuttle schedule, we arrived at port at 11:30. To our surprise, we were allowed to go straight on the ship. Royal Caribbean allows guest to pre-load their security photo from home which really speeds-up embarkation. By 11:45 we were in the Windjammer eating lunch. The Windjammer, instead of having the usual alcohol based hand sanitizer dispensers, has built-in sinks. The 8 wash basins each have a faucet which not only dispenses warm water, and soap, but also contains a hand blower. It was actually fun to “washy washy” before each meal. The selection of food in the Windjammer was good. However, seating was an issue. The staff cleaned tables as fast as they came available, but you had to watch for people leaving and then make a dash for the table. We always found a table, but it took a little work. The ship is in great shape. The Flow Rider, rock climbing wall, water slides, splash area, ice skating rink, pools, shuffleboard, and Ping-Pong, kept us busy during the 4 at days at sea. The mini-golf course is situated on two decks with one of the holes taking the ball to the lower deck. Unlike other brands we have been on where the mini-golf course was just AstroTurf with a hole in it, the Adventure of the Seas has structures (a boat, lighthouse, giant clam shell, etc) like a real mini-golf course. Also, our last Carnival ship had hollow plastic balls which do not act like real balls. Royal Caribbean still uses real golf balls. For ice skating, you have to sign-up in the morning before the first session for ANY session during that day. We did not know this and arrived at the 2nd session to find it full (35 skaters per session). On the next sea day, we arrived before the first session and got our desired session stickers. The sessions last 30 minutes and skaters are required to wear long pants (make-sure to pack one pair of long pants for this and not only shorts) and socks. At 1:30 the rooms opened. Your room key is located at your room. Our luggage was also at the room waiting for us. The room was good size with a fold down bed (located above the head area of the main bed). The fold down bed remained down then entire cruise, but was out of the way. The shower had a glass door and the balcony had two chairs, which folded down flat, and a table. Unlike other ships which have glass walls separating the balconies, the Adventure of the Seas balconies have one glass wall, and one full metal wall. This limits possible disturbances to only one neighbor instead of two. It resulted in a more private feeling. The AC worked great and kept the room cool. There was an empty refrigerator in the room which came in great for storing cold water. You use a magnet on the door to indicate to the stateroom attendant when you are out of the room. Unlike Carnival, which has gone to one time per day service, Royal Caribbean still does twice daily room maintenance. Our cabin attendance was great and the room was always serviced while we were either away at breakfast or at dinner. Since it was a Caribbean cruise, we bought the non-alcoholic drink package (pre-cruise sale price $23.50 per day which included 18% tips). This allowed you to get ANY drink at the Coffee Café (which served Starbucks and great iced mocha frappes), fresh juice, bottled water, and mock cocktails at the bars. You also got a micro-chipped plastic cup which allowed you to use the self-service machines throughout the ship for soda. Unlike Carnival, which gives you a receipt (that has a space for an additional tip (above the 18% already paid) making you feel bad if you do not tip again) to sign, Royal Caribbean just swipes your card and you are on your way. No pressure for additional tips. With the hot weather, the package (which does not have to be bought for all guests staying in the same room) was a good deal. Highly recommend the non-alcoholic Mango Daiquiri. The package even works on Labadee. For dinner we had early seating. You order your entire meal (appetizer(s), main course, and dessert) at once. This allowed the waiters to seamlessly deliver your meal without long waits. Each night we would order two appetizers which would be delivered at the same time. Once you finished a course, the next course would magically appear. On the second Formal Night, lobster was on the menu. Although some cruise lines charge extra for lobster, on the 7 night, or longer, Royal Caribbean cruises it is still complimentary and you can order as many as you like. The lobster was the best we have had in our many cruises and shamelessly we each had 3 (while on vacation…..). For the other 7 nights, the menu kept our taste buds entertained and the food was delivered hot. One area where Royal Caribbean fell short was celebrating Special Occasions. During prior cruises, we received a free photo coupon on Carnival during a birthday, a balloon and card on Princess during a special event, and other such items. On this cruise, we were celebrating our 25th anniversary (as noted in the reservation). The DAY AFTER the anniversary, we received a 10% off jewelry coupon. No other recognition (a card would have been nice) from Royal Caribbean. It was kind of a letdown after seeing what other bands did and made us wonder why they even ask when booking. The first port of call was Royal Caribbean’s private beach Labadee. Although there is a zip line, roller coaster, and other fun activities (extra cost) on the beach, we decided to just lie on the beach and enjoy the sun since during prior visits we had done the activities. Chairs are provided for free and there are shade trees. The drink package works at Labadee and we kept hydrated with sodas and non-alcoholic Labaduzies (tropical fruit daiquiris). They also serve a free BBQ lunch. The lunch was great and we made several snack runs to the serving area for additional cookies and desserts. One great thing about the beach, there are no venders. The venders are limited to certain areas near the restrooms (where you will get the usual aggressive selling). So you can just lay back, sip Labaduzies, and enjoy the beach. The second port of call was Porto Rico. We had a van tour excursion booked through Royal Caribbean, but upon receiving our tickets on the ship, we noticed the tour time had changed. The new time interfered with our dinner time. We cancelled the tour (full refund) and instead walked to the two forts. Both are near the ship and are run by the U.S. Park Service. One admission price is good for both forts. The forts were interesting and the walk was easy. The third port of call was St. Maarten. St. Maarten (Dutch side, St. Martin French side). Here we went to Maho Beach. This is the famous beach by Princess Julianna Airport where planes fly over right above your head. Excursions to the beach ran about $40 per person. A taxi is about $30. We took the public transportation (vans which run on a scheduled route every 10 minutes) for $2 per person each way. It was a short walk to the main street where we caught a van with a “Maho Beach” sign in the window (the other route is Marigot). If you see lots on vans with Marigot, and none with Maho Beach, you are on the wrong direction street since the locations are in opposite directions. The trip to Maho Beach took 25 minutes and cost only $6. A majority of the large planes (Airbus 320s and 737s) land between 11:45-2:00 so this is the best time for viewing. Unfortunately, about half way during our visit, it started to rain. We went to the near-by Sun Set Bar and Grill ($9 daiquiris, $4 beers) for a drink and shelter. If you have to use the restroom, use it before ordering. They charge $1 to use the restroom, but give you a $1 drink coupon. After watching the planes, it was another $6 van ride back to Philipsburg (cruise dock) which took about 40 minutes. We happen to be in Philipsburg on Labor Day and were treated to an interesting Labor Day parade. It was like a New Orleans Mardi Gras parade with free t-shirts, and beer, being handed from the floats to the spectators. Once word of warning, the parade participants were very scantly clothed and also seemed to have enjoyed the free beverages. We would probably not take any young children to watch the parade. The last port of call was St. Kitts. Here we took a Royal Caribbean booked van tour of the island for $24 a person. After several days in the sun, and never having been to St. Kitts before, we picked the relaxing Panoramic Drive in the air conditioned van. The tour was nice with the only complaint being it was shorter than the advertised 2 hours. The tour made two stops as it wound around the tiny island. The driver used a PA system and the van was in good shape. For this cruise, we bought the unlimited photo package ($199 pre-sale). It was fun taking numerous photos (354) which will keep the memories alive for many years to come. The photos are downloadable to your phone, or any device, while on board the ship. You can also load the photos from a link emailed to your after the cruise. Instead of agonizing over which photos to buy, and ending-up with a $100 photo bill for a few favorites, this package gave us all photos for every person in your stateroom with you buying only 1 package per room. If somebody from your room is in the photo, you get it. Debarkation went fast. After leaving our stateroom at 8:00, we got breakfast in the Windjammer (stops serving at 8:30). By the time we finished breakfast, numbers 1-24 had been called. Being group 10, we walked right off the ship. Customs took about 15 minutes. Having a 4:50 flight, we reserved a car with Hertz for the day. The Hertz shuttle makes loops between the several ships and their office. Due to port rules, you cannot take a car rental shuttle to an airport rental location. Thus, all the car rental shuttles go to off airport locations. Although we had pre-paid for the rental car, and somehow managed to arrive exactly at the rental time (great guessing), Hertz had no car for us. An employee had to go the airport and bring a car over which took about 30 minutes. The car only had 3/8 a tank of gas and we were told to return it at the same level. When we returned the car later at the airport, we were told we owed for the missing gas. Luckily between a photo of the odometer/gas gauge upon pick-up, a gas receipt for the estimates used gas, and only driving 58 miles, we were able to convince the attendant there was no way we could use 5/8 a tank of gas. The gas charge was removed, but it did cost us about 15 minutes of our time. If you do rent from Hertz, be warned. While waiting for our flight, we drove about 25 minutes (no tolls along the way) to Sawgrass Recreation Park for an air boat ride. Using a coupon online, we were able to pre-buy the tickets for a great price. The ride was about 30 minutes and we saw 3 adult alligators. Sawgrass Mills was picked based upon location, price, type of boat used, and recommendations online. After the ride, we visited their animal area and got to hold a baby alligator. They also have several animals to view. It made for a nice 2 hour visit. It was then off to a late lunch and the airport for our flight home. Overall, the cruise was fantastic. It greatly exceeded our expectations (except for the Special Occasion). Adventure of the Seas is a wonderful ship with an outstanding crew. Read Less

Chose this cruise based on dates (need specific dates when traveling with teachers and kids), ship, and cost. We also looked at Allure and Rhapsody. Rhapsody was too small and not enough for the kids and Allure was more expensive. We traveled with three families total (6 adults and 6 kids, ages 7,8,9,9,10,12). We all had interior rooms on deck 8 (8445, mine, 8457, and 8469). Rooms we as to be expected, small yet manageable. I was actually pleasantly surprised how easily 4 fit in one small room. Before we got on the ship we stayed in an Airbnb in Weston, FL. It was nice to be away from the Ft. Lauderdale and Miami crowd. We went to Everglades Holiday Park and enjoyed seeing gators in their natural habitat and the kids each got to hold a baby gator. Embarkation was as expected. Lot of traffic getting to the Port. Once in, the lines weren't too bad. Dining in the Main Dinning Room was great. We signed up for My Time Dinning and made reservations for the whole week. This ensured that we had the same wait staff, but weren't restricted to eating at 5:30 or 8:00. Our nightly reservation was at 6:00, except on one night, which was 8:00 since the ship didn't leave port until 7. We had two in our party with allergies (gluten and dairy). Our wait staff did an excellent job of making sure we were able to order what we wanted and have it prepared to suite our dietary needs, even if the menu did not indicate it to be gluten or dairy free. The wait staff also did a great job with the kids. They gave them different logic puzzle to figure out each night. It kept the kids entertained quiet. Dinning in the Windjammer was a little less than I expected. Our last cruise, in 2017, had a whole section of gluten free options (sandwiches, cookies, desserts, pastas, etc) but Adventure only had 1-2 breads and 1-2 desserts. I was told I could ask anyone wearing a white shirt to get special orders of GF, but because my allergy is not severe I just picked things I knew to be GF and didn't bother with asking. Kids club was hit and miss. The two youngest loved kids club and asked to go back repeatedly. The middle three did not care for it, saying the activates were too "baby" and they didn't have the option to sit out. They only went twice. The oldest was in a group by herself, but was able to go to the middle age club, when they went. For the most part the activities and entertainment were excellent. There was not a Broadway show, as there is on other RC ships, but the shows were good nonetheless. The Fire and Ice show was great! I am always amazed all they are able to do on such small sheet of ice. My biggest complaint of the cruise was the "Sexiest Man Competition" held at the main pool in the middle of the day. This was completely inappropriate to have in front of children. The men were conducting lap dances to receive the title of sexiest man. Even when I had my kids stop watching and go back to swimming the competition was broadcast on the big movie screen for all to see. RC really should have put a stop to the crude behavior, but instead they were encouraging it. Read Less

We like the six night itinerary, long enough and we like having a weekend day to get ready and day to recover before back to work, so leaving on Sunday and back on Saturday is perfect. Embark day was very smooth, The ship is beautiful, big but not humongous and easy to figure out after a day or so. We had an inside cabin on deck 7, plenty of space for the two of us, we’re boaters and we like the real “boat” feel of an inside cabin but it might not be for everyone. Our cabin steward was very sweet but there was a bit of a language barrier that we haven’t had before. We had a bit of a mixup with our dining, we had chosen main dining early when we booked months ago but all of a sudden when we got our sea passes (which you don’t get now until you go to your cabin) they said My Time Dining. So we had to kind of push to get a table for two in main dining and didn’t get that until the 2nd night. They worked it out for us but it shouldn’t have happened and we missed out on a night at our “real” table. We moved on though and it was fine. Our servers there were very good, Nidia in particular. The food was good, some nights especially good. We liked the new sinks going into the Windjammer, very slick with wash and dry all in one, and much better than the constant antibacterial stuff that always feels so sticky, I’d rather wash my hands. We liked the Windjammer buffet for lunch and a couple of breakfasts, good food, nice variety. We spend lots of time outside and enjoy the deck above the pool. But geez, even though they really really try to tell people no saving chairs there are still so many people that do that! We never need to be right in the middle of things so we were always able to find chairs but you do see people wandering around looking for seats when there are so many saved and never used. It’s a selfish thing that never seems to change. In Cozumel we did the single rider ATV/Cavern swim excursion, very fun! We thought it might be slow riding but we were pleasantly surprised, they really let us fly! And the cavern was very cool, a literal bat cave which I thought would freak me out but our guides did such a great job of explaining it all that it felt ok to get in and swim. Great experience. I’m all over the place here, but we also really enjoyed the guy in the piano bar, can’t remember his name but he did a really funny little show. Disembarkation was made super easy by using a porter for our luggage. Our guy got our bags and somehow got us to the head of a very long line, it took us 15 mins from walking off the ship to getting into the parking garage shuttle! Money well spent on that one! My DH and I recently sailed on Adventure OTS. I know it is not the newest or the biggest, but it was perfect for us and for what we wanted to do on a cruise This was my 51st total cruise, and I am Diamond on Royal. This carries some nice perks which I will go into in a bit. As there aren't too many reviews for this ship, I wanted to share my thoughts We drove down the night before. We live about 3 hours or so from the port but I have learned not to arrive the day of. We stayed at the Embassy Suites and took a taxi to the port. As my DH travels we had points for the hotel and free rental car. So we rented a vehicle from Deltona to the airport in FLL, and then rented one for free to go home. Worked out great. We arrived at the port about noon, and we were on the ship in about 15 to 20 minutes. Since our room would not be ready until a bit after 1pm, we decided to just relax in the Schooner Bar and enjoy a couple of drinks. Once our room was ready we went and got our room keys and dropped off our carry on. We explored the ship a bit until it was time for Muster. Once Muster was finished, we went back to our room. Our suitcases were there so we unpacked. The cabin has so much storage space! We only used about half the drawers, and there were plenty of hangers in the closet. Our cabin number was 7618, which is a Hump Balcony mid-ship. Lots of room for the two reclining chairs plus a full size table. The bathroom was a bit smaller than some of the ships I have been on, but it was adequate and everything was good. Love the shower doors instead of the clingy curtains on some other ships! The biggest downside was the bed and the pillows. I would have been as comfortable sleeping on the floor! I cannot believe how hard the bed was and how flat the pillows were. Definitely a negative in my book.. The only other thing that annoyed me was the room was sometimes not cleaned until after 1:30 or so. As we like to relax in our room or out on the balcony, it was a bit of a drag. Not enough to make me upset the whole day, but enough to annoy me. We went on the cruise for some much needed R and R. We never got off the ship, and stayed on all week. Our days were spent in the Solarium, out on the balcony, in the casino a bit, or sitting on the Promenade. It was pure bliss. We had the Your Time dining, but still had a reservation for each night. I know it seems a little bit of an oxymoron to have reservations for dining on my time, but it worked for us. We sat at the same table each night with the same staff. Dinner was great every night, and took about an hour. Meals were brought out hot, my water glass stayed full, and I enjoyed my banana split for dessert each and every night. Breakfast was usually at the Windjammer, although we did eat in the dining room twice for breakfast. Lunch was always the Windjammer. It is spread out in a great way and there was little if any congestion or lines during the times we went. The Washy-Washy woman is a pure delight and always made me smile. The casino was very tight, and surprisingly not too smoky. I did not notice too many people who were smoking without playing. I am not sure if that is due to good policing by the staff or if less people are smoking. Diamond Perks: We used the free 8x10 photo, and definitely enjoyed the three cocktails loaded onto our Sea Pass card each day between 4:30 and 8:30. Since the drinks were available we never did make it to the lounge for pre-dinner snacks. We were also able to get off the ship a bit quicker since the Loyalty Ambassador was outside and saw us and two other couples who met with him during the week. He literally escorted us through the line and we were off the ship, collected out luggage, went through Customs, and in our car in about 30 minutes. My DH and I just looked at each other and said WOW! I am not sure if I covered everything, but if you have any questions I will try to answer them. We did go to a couple of the shows (don't remember the names) and they were very well done. I didn't keep the daily sheets as they are pretty generic in my opinion. Most folks dressed accordingly to the suggested dress, but there were a few in shorts and jeans on the more dressier nights. I don't care, but thought I would mention it since it comes up in discussion. My DH and I get a bit dressy, but we do it for ourselves and for each other. All in all it was just what we were wanting and needing, and except for the horrible mattress - a perfect cruise for us. Read Less

Room attendant was subpar. Didn't clean room til mid afternoon and then would show up 930 or 10 in evening after we had gone to bed to clean second time. Cleaning also was not good. Everything else about cruise was excellent. We were disappointed they did not have the parade on promenade deck. Our dining servers were great, always aiming to please. Offering second helpings, entertaining my grandson, inquiring if everything was ok and offering to get a meal to go if one of us did not show up for supper. Even ran up to windjammer to get strawberry kiwi water for us. We took 3 people who were on their first cruise and they are definitely ready to go again. Disembarking was handled better than previous cruises and we were off ship quicker than we had anticipated. We are looking for our 2020 family/friend cruise. It won't come soon enough Read Less

I don't know if it was on purpose, or if they were just oblivious to the non-smokers. Coming from Florida where it is illegal to smoke in a public place, I was aghast that smokers had more rights than we non-smokers. Everything else was superior. Departure was easy and smooth; disembarkation was fast and smooth. I liked the Adventure of the Seas. This was my first time on her, and all was good. We had a small cabin, but it was clean, neat, close to the elevators , and Tu was a great cabin steward. Dining was fine. We ate in the Cafe' Promenade, Windjammer, and Sapphire restaurants. Food was very good, but I would have liked a larger selection of entree's. Our waiter and ass't waiter were among the best I have ever had. There were many activities and entertainment shows: nothing as grand as on the Oasis and Allure (no Broadway productions) , but we had good shows. The comedians were only average, but the singers and dancers were very good. Back stage tour was very interesting. The Company Men ( a male quartet) was excellent! I have their CD. They were quite the experience. Service was excellent throughout the ship. I love Grand Cayman, but did not book any excursions this trip. Costa Maya: I just explored and went shopping; then I watched the dolphins being fed and jumping. In Cozumel I took the tour to Chichen Itza. It was a lifetime goal and did not disappoint. Some on the tour did not realize that it takes most of the day to travel back and forth. We only had a little over an hour there, but I knew what to expect. I was not disappointed! Our cabin was perfect; fantastic location. except not enough room for my wheel chair.(The handicapped cabin was more expensive).Our room's caretaker was excellent. No room for improvement there either. She was a kind sweet young lady, very thorough. We even enjoyed chatting with her. The food was fantastic anywhere we went we were well accommodated in the DR.The main complaint we had was the constant loud music videos on deck, never any quiet time. We found this a bit distressing. Service was great all the way around with one exception, when I needed a break in the line at the cafe they would not accommodate me. I did not care for our room steward. He just acted like we annoyed him. Our hallway smelled like sewer. They were doing daily work on something in our hallway. There were about 6 guys with open panals in our hall daily working all day. No other halls had an oder. Island stops were wonderful. The ship was sold out, so VERY CROWDED. The on boarding shops were more reasonably priced than I expected. She is a very pretty ship. The shows were well put together. Very talented performers. I would recommend the beverage package if you are a drinker. Drinks average about $12 for a mixed drink. We also used the new Key package. We loved the perks it offered. Read Less

One of the bigger ships but it never felt too big. Great staff and food! We were in a 1-bedroom grand suite which was amazing. Large room with plenty of space. Huge balcony. Well worth the money. Also gives you access to private deck chairs and a suite lounge with drinks and snacks. Overall a fantastic week - zero we could complain about. Embarkation was quick and easy...and the rooms were ready at the exact time they were promised. Always a nice touch. We ate in the main dining room every night - kids aren't foodies. The menu was diverse and the food was quite good. Never felt we were looking at the same choices each night. The buffet gets crowded but for a quick bite it was fine. Food choices were endless and well done. Excursions were a blast. We did a resort day in Jamaica that was incredibly relaxing. Jewel Runaway Bay - Highly recommend it although I wouldn't buy from the ship because the pricing was bonkers. We also did the stingray and reef experience in Grand Cayman - Don't miss it. The stingrays are everywhere and they're not shy. In Cozumel we went on the starfish sanctuary snorkel. This one required some swimming. It was a great excursion but you will put some work into it. Last but not least in Costa Maya we went to the water park. Kids loved it. Great park and perfect way to end the trip - we had done ruins and hikes on our last cruise so relaxation was the word of the day everyday on this trip. Read Less

We recently returned from a cruise to the Western Caribbean with Royal Caribbean on Adventures of the Seas. We traveled with my daughter, son-in-law and 4 grandchildren ages 15, 12,10 and 8. The whole experience was fantastic. We first spent two days in Fort Lauderdale at the beach and took an airboat ride through the Everglades. We stayed at the Ocean Mile Motel which was an older place but very nice and within walking distance to the beach. The owner of the Motel was an awesome young man that made sure our ever need was met. We had rented a car at the airport and turned it in near Port Everglades which provided a shuttle to the cruise port. Once there we were able to board and I was surprised at how smoothly boarding the ship went. Shortly after being on the ship we were able to go to our stateroom which was very nice sized as we had two of our grandchildren in our room. The food on the ship was superb. Our waiter in the main dining was Roberto and he did above and beyond to serve us and meet our needs. Our first port was Falmouth, Jamaica where we did the Dunn's River excursion. I highly recommend this as it was beautiful and so much fun. The next day was Grand Cayman where we did a Dolphin swim and a trip to Stingray City both were so memorable for all of us and l will never forget the look on my grandkids faces as they petted stingrays. Costa Maya was next and we took a van to a beach area and had drinks at the Krazy Lobster 2.00 beer and 5.00 margarita's nice beach area with lounge chairs, and shopping near by last port was Cozumel and we used the Cozumel Activities just outside the port area who took us to a resort beach area where we could snorkel and swim for 25.00 a person which included the snorkel gear. Our driver was awesome and made sure we got back to the ship in plenty of time. The entertainment on our ship was fantastic; two different comedians, a Spainish gaucho who had a very funny, entertaining act, an ice show in the ice rink, great music and dancing by the cruise ship entertainers. My grandkids never lacked for things to do and they didn't even spend anytime in the kids programs which were plentiful. All in all would highly recommend it. Read Less

We chose this cruise due to date "spring break" and location. It was my son, 13yo and me traveling alone. We wanted something close to home and a chose a cruise since we wanted to stick to a pre-set budget so we pre-paid all our gratuities, excursions etc. We had a few ship sailing options from Miami and Ft Lauderdale in the end we chose this ship because the itinerary was more interesting for my son and it was right on budget. We had no issues with arrival/departure or baggage delivery as we were local and had carry-on bags. We checked-in later in the day somewhere around 3pm so our cabin was also ready upon arrival. DINING- After unpacking and ensuring everything was ok in the cabin we headed out to the PROMENADE CAFE where we had an afternoon snack daily. They had a nice variety of food choices daily. The wait times here varied based on time of day, but was fast moving and fortunately we never had an issue finding seats (time of day we went, I guess). The only critical feedback is that the bussing was slow and there was no area for one to self bus thus giving an unkempt look and presenting issues with seating. COFEE BAR - Adjacent to Promenade Cafe - wait times can vary, busier during morning hours. Service was good and coffee was good. I recommend buying the Coffee Pass which allows you up to 15 premium selections throughout the sailings (note; Fraps count as 1). MAIN DINING ROOM - This is my pet peeve. We booked this cruise in advance, as I stated just my son and I traveling, we confirmed MAIN Dining 8pm and Table of 6 - we wanted to meet and socialize with other cruisers. First evening on our way to dining room we come to find out that we now have MY TIME DINING When did this change? Why weren't we told? Everything, all of my documents, which I had with me, even at time of online check-in when I verified dining again we showed dining noted as Main Dining 8pm Table of 6. So here we are 1st night, having to make a tedious long line for dinner, we are finally seated near 9pm and in a Table for 2 - this is all they can give us they said. The waiter Brian, not great, mediocre. The assistant waiter, Charmaine, was graciously charming and all smiles, happy to serve, she made up for what Brian lacked. After our first nights dinner we spoke to the Maitre'D to discuss our dining mishap, he was not able or willing to honor my confirmed dining preferences, all he could do was book us reservations for 8:15pm the remaining of the week for the same TABLE OF 2. Next day, I went to guest services to see about getting this changed, and again they said there was nothing they could do. So please be ware, and when you check-in at the Pier immediately review your SEA PASS for dining accuracy, unfortunately, I failed to do that, lesson learned! To make matters worse, Charmaine, unfortunately, was sick most of the week so we were left with back-up assistant waiters and the boring Brian who it seemed was always rushing about, we were fortunate to get her back on our last night. We made the best of dining, and friended our neighboring tables of 2, together we had an informal table of 6, ha! It is however funny and sad, that each evenings conversation included a discussion of the "service" mood for the evening. The first parties would warn the others of what to expect. All of us also felt rushed at dining. As the evenings went on, I connected the dots and associated this "rushed" sensation to the MY TIME DINING, of course it makes sense, you have tables coming in (of all sizes) at all times, the wait staff is going crazy and unfortunately not able to give their full attention equally to all, or is it that the quiet, bashful table of 2's get lost amongst the bigger and louder parties? That said, I don't recommend My Time Dining to anyone, instead, on the nights you need flexibility visit the WINDJAMMER CAFE, here we found the service and the food options EXCEPTIONAL, even at peak morning hours. Oh before I forget, food quality in the Main Dining room was as expected it was good with great variety from night-to-night. SHIP - Overall it was fine. Few things I would like to mention. The running deck is on the main pool deck, if you are a runner you need to come out here early when not crowded or go and use deck 4. Seriously why do cruise lines always do that? Place the running deck on the most crowded deck and often times windier deck too. The gym was very good. I used it daily. The equipment was in good condition and gym goers wiped after themselves and re-racked weights. I didn't partake in classes, but I did use the treadmills, ellipticals, rowers, free weights and some machines. I didn't visit the casino or bars or shops, so cannot speak to them. Pool/Towels - In my opinion they should have more than 1 towel station, it is located on the main pool deck in a very crowded area. If you are lounging in the upper decks you need to go down 2-decks to get/return towel. Another station, even if only part of day, would I think benefit cruisers. ACTIVITIES- FREE Recreation on board was fun, there was putt-putt, ping-pong, sports deck, rock climbing & slides. With regards to the sports deck and ping-pong, there are lots of hoarders that will take the ball and keep it for a very long time, we only got to use the basketball 10-minutes before the teenagers ran us off the court to play a double court game. For ping pong we often had to wait 30+ minutes to get a table as the unsupervised kids would just keep playing and other kids would keep joining. I think that RCCL can do much better, maybe require guests to check-out the SPORTS equipment and provide a sign-up sheet this way EVERYONE has a chance. I can tell you when my family had the ping-pong table we would play one-game and then share with any other family waiting. We would play one game, they would play one game, then winners would play each other. I didn't see enough of that, very disappointing. The slides were fun, I would go later in the day when the wait time had dropped off. We did not partake in rock climbing, when I remembered it was there, it was too late they were closing up and it was last day of sailing. We did not partake in surfing as that involved an additional fee and well we live in Florida and travel to Southern California yearly. TEEN PROGRAM - I was looking forward to this, but was disappointed. My son is shy, he is an only child, quick to make friends with Adults but with other kids he needs a little more time, so the couple of times I did get him to the Optix lounge there was no one there. It seems that most of the teen activities are un-supervised, there was a calendar of events but not too much explanation of what the events were, so when we went around to inquire no one could help us. The other teens seemed to be traveling with large families and groups so they had the advantage, I really recommend that cruise lines maybe offer SINGLE FAMILIES or FAMILIES in general a couple of social meet/greet nights, they do this for target markets which included the older teens 18-21, Adult Single Cruises, LGBTG and others. TRIVIAS and misc activities were fun but some hosts were better than others. Seriously if you have a Harry Potter Trivia make sure the person running the show has seen the movies and knows how to pronounce the questions. CABIN- We booked the lowest inside cabin available at the time and I was very happy with our cabin and our service. We were assigned a cabin on deck 6 overlooking the promenade. Our cabin attendant was friendly and brought us ice daily. We unfortunately only received a cabin towel animal on the last night :-( EXCURSIONS- We pre-booked our excursions, they were as to be expected. The tour providers were all great and kept to schedule. The only feedback here was the towel service. You have to get your towel before leaving and it wasn't clearly communicated how/where. Additionally it was different every day, wouldn't it be simplest to have teams dispatching towels in the same place every day? The last stop was the best organized where they handed out the towels right on the pier after getting off the ship. ON BOARD COMMUNICATION AND APP- I downloaded the app, have used similar on other cruise lines, I thought this would enable me to communicate with my son during the cruise, it does not!!! There was no way for him to download it too unless he had an e-mail account and additionally there wasn't a feature to communicate with your cabin mates and/or other friends on board. People, you don't have WIFI on board, how else can you communicate with your family and children? Yes you can purchase wifi- but why, we wanted to, and needed to disconnect. I saw other families using walkie-talkie type of devices, wish I would have known, now you know. Also the app didn't show any of the TEEN or KID CLUB options, so again, very hard to know what was going on in those areas. The app also defaulted to "recommended" every time I had to go and select to "see all" you can also filter by type of activity (e.g. Dining, Entertainment). ENTERTAINMENT - mediocre. Not impressed, the only hi-light was a comedian on board and a comedian/musician. Read Less

We just returned from a Caribbean Cruise on Saturday, March 30. The staff was wonderful - attentive, kind, welcoming...all you could hope for. As usual when this many people are being served, the food is fair. They do the best they can given the limitations and the massive number of people they are serving. It seems healthier options are gradually moving in. Our balcony room was lovely and had enough room for our needs. We had a junior suite and were surprised to find a walk in closet! Prior to booking this trip we had done as much checking as possible - online cruise forums, speaking with folks at RCI, etc - to be sure that the children's program on board accommodates children with special needs. We narrowed our decision down to a Royal Caribbean Cruise vs a Disney Cruise. In the end, it seemed the quality was comparable but the Royal Caribbean won since it was less expensive and we had cruised on their ships twice before (without kids) and were happy overall. We now regret the decision. We had been assured by Royal Caribbean agents that the childcare staff is all trained for dealing with children with special needs and there is even a program for autistic kids, though it was vague. As the cruise date came closer I tried harder to get specific information about what accommodations are made for children with special needs, including what the ratio is and could not get a clear answer but kept getting assured that the kids would be well cared for. Both of our kids have special needs, but our 6 year old son in particular is impulsive and hyperactive. He has to be well supervised. Our group was counting on having at least one hour per day of a break from him. Here is what happened: 1) my travel agent was told by someone at RCI the day before departure that upon arrival we needed to check in with guest services to get us set up as a special needs family. 2) upon arrival, we went straight to the guest services desk, waiting in line for about 20 minutes with a very hyperactive, impulsive and agitated child (!!) only to be told that guest services doesn't handle that at all. I insisted, but then an assistant manager who said he'd been managing that desk for about 15 years told me that absolutely the guest services folks have nothing at all to do with special needs accommodations. Then he said that someone would come to our room to do a private drill so that the crowds wouldn't be too upsetting for our son. That was nice, but not super helpful since we then had to sit in a lounge with NOTHING TO DO while the rest of the passengers were undergoing the drill and our son was spinning out of control from boredom. It was a very stressful way to begin our trip. 3) we headed straight up to Adventure Ocean where we met very nice people, shared our specific issues/concerns about our son. They said there would be no problem handling him but would give us a phone to contact us in case there was a problem. They then informed us that their ratio was a surprising 1:25! My adult kids who didn't have any sensory or behavioral issues would have come undone in that chaotic of an environment. I said that our son in particular needs a lot of supervision and we had been told that they can handle special needs and...what about autistic kids? Surely they can't have autistic kids in that kind of environment. They assured us that they have planned activities and all would be well. 4) the next day (2nd day of our cruise) we took the kids into Adventure Ocean but had to WALK THROUGH A VERY LOUD AND OVERSTIMULATING ARCADE to get in there. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE thing to do to any family, but most of all special needs kids - the sensory overload was not a good way to enter the children’s program. We arrived to a scene that was so chaotic and disorderly that it looked frightening frankly. While standing there trying to assure my kids that they would in fact have fun, two children bumped into each other and neither adult in charge witnessed it because there were nearly 50 kids in the tiny space with only 2 adults - one of them frantically trying to check people in and out and the other ONE PERSON (!!) was trying to manage all of the children in the two sections of the space. It was really a crazy scene. I pushed through, thinking I'm overly sensitive and all of these other parents have left their kids so it must be okay. The child whose head got bumped was crying so hard he was hyperventilating but no one could take the time to comfort him. He looked about 8 or 9 years old. The child who bumped into him was clearly ashamed, feeling like he'd done something wrong and was in a corner in a sort of fetal position looking so disturbed and vulnerable. But again, no one could possibly take the time to comfort him and handle the situation. I stood there for a while and in the end both boys were just encouraged to get back in the ball game but neither looked at all comfortable or happy about playing anything. The boy who was crying was asking to see his parents. I don't know if the caregivers even heard him. 5) I stupidly left both of my kids in there for about 45 minutes and when we picked them up the place was still so chaotic we never went back. 6) we NEEDED this cruise to play but also to relax a bit. We didn't relax at all except for the one hour we had massages booked and our older daughters took care of the kids. We were counting on getting some relief from the kids and them having some fun organized activities, but that did not happen. 7) I complained to the Adventure Ocean manager by phone on the 3rd day, hoping that there was possibly some other program for kids who are sensitive, but nope. The only thing she said was that we could be let in the back door so the overstimulating arcade could be avoided. And she said that on port days the children's program has fewer kids. We took our kids out to enjoy islands on port days! So that's not helpful. We ended up having a very stressful experience on board. I am writing to let others know that at least on this ship, they don't have any sort of accommodations for special needs kids. And secondly, to have an adult to child ratio of 1:25 doesn’t even adequately meet the needs of typical children, in my opinion and from what I observed with my own eyes that day. My kids refused to go back there to try another day and they are kids who usually are game for any kind of adventure and fun. If I had even been told that the ratio was 1:25 we would have gone ahead and paid the extra to go on a Disney Cruise for fewer days. It is dangerous even to have ratios that high. After writing a letter to RCI, I received a phone call from someone who said they read my letter, thanked me for my feedback and suggestions, and have a nice day. Disappointing response for sure. At the very least, they need to have it posted where parents are able to see on their website when shopping for a cruise, that their ratio is 1:25. That information should not be impossible to learn until boarding the ship. Read Less

Chose this cruise for the price. Embarkation was smooth as silk once we got to the ship. The only slow part was having to park at the midport parking garage and then having to shuttle back to the ship. Lunch at Park Café. Did not want to put up with the crowd at the Windjammer. After lunch our room was ready and our sea pass cards were at our door. Went to Bolleros for a drink while waiting for our luggage. Racquel and Glenn were the greatest bartenders. Went to check on our luggage and one of the two suitcases had arrived. The other did not. Finally got a letter that they confiscated our power strip and had to pick up the bag on deck 1. When I got there I told them the power strip was not a surge protected type and we had used it on numerous cruises. To no avail they said I could reclaim it after departure on the last day. Dinner at the main dining room every day. Food was the typical food served by Royal on their Voyager class ships. Service was excellent at table 147 with Jayesh (you can call me Jay) as the Waiter and Charmaine as his assistant. Even though we had my time dining, we requested that table and time for the remainder of the cruise and it was granted. We definitely tipped them extra at the end of the cruise. Many activities during the day. The shows were good. Finis Henderson was the best. He is a singer / impressionist who does Elvis, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole, and many others including Sammy Davis his real Godfather. Casino was good to my wife but not to me. Oh well. Went to the Diamond lounge on the first day for happy hour. The hors d'oeuvres were not that good . The chicken wings seemed like they were steamed and then had some thin bbq sauce on them. The skin chewed like rubber and bubble gum. Small children were touching everything on the buffet but were not eating them. Their guardians were to busy drinking and bragging about their Crown and Anchor status to do anything about them. Next night returned to the DL and again kids running around unsupervised. But the thing that made us not return to this lounge was the fact every one was saving seats for people that "were coming later", so there was no place to sit and they wouldn't open up the outside seating. We had cabin 8637. Sherwin the room steward was great. First morning no hot water in the sink or shower. Called maintenance and they promptly showed up. The man said it's fixed after doing something outside in the hallway wall. It was hotter but not the temp I usually encounter in a stateroom. Next morning no hot water and the sink is stopped up again. By Wednesday we had hot water till Thursday morning. This went on the rest of the cruise and was probably our biggest bummer of the cruise. We bought liquor in Cozumel and as normal you turn it in when you get back on board. The man collecting it said it would be returned to the stateroom on the last night of the cruise. No problem. The last night of the cruise no liquor. Down to Guest Services. They said you can pick up your liquor on embarkation day at 0630 deck 5 in the Sapphire dining room. Why?. Because it is spring break and there is a lot of under age children on board and we don't want them to have access to the alcohol. But if you buy it in their liquor store on the last day you get to take it with you right then and there. What?. Did self assist when getting off the ship. They said it would be around 0645 when they would let us off. Around 0715 is when we started off. The shuttles were waiting and back to the parking garage. All in all a fun time, but we will not cruise the Adventure again. Too many little small things going on. Not enough to spoil a good time, but enough to turn us away from this ship.
