Selected cruise because it was presumed to be an upscale line. It was upscale in many respects but failed in others. Good food, excellent service and mostly a well trained staff. Ship layout lacked some of the features found on Seabourn. Out butler was not trained and was virtually useless. Service in the dining room was unreasonably slow. Wait time between courses averaged 20 or more minutes in many cases. The buffet area is much too small resulting in crowded conditions during breakfast and lunch with limited space to display the food. Gym weight machines old and need replacement. Satellite has limited broadband resulting in poor service. No television for over 48 hours and then spotty service the next 48 hours. This situation also affected the quality of the internet service which was slow compared to other cruise lines. If you like to cruise on a small ship, go with Seabourn. Read Less

The primary reason we chose this cruise was the time of year and the number of days sailing. Also, I wanted to go through the Panama Canal. We were on the Silver Spirit several times, but this year we really liked the itinerary of the Silver Whisper. Overall the cruise was amazing. We loved the size of the ship. My fiancé came aboard just getting over major surgery for a dislocated ankle and a broken foot. Our cabin was in a great location and it was very easy for him to get around. We met the most lovely people. The staff was great! We love the choice of restaurants and overall the food was excellent. The quality of wines that are inclusive were pretty good as was the champagne. I did not care for the lectures given on this particular cruise. We liked our cabin except for the positioning of the TV which was on an angle. It wasn't as easy viewing the TV as it was on the Silver Spirit because it wasn't in front of us. We couldn't use the remote from our bed where we preferred to watch TV. We were disappointed that we had to pay for the Internet. $495 was a lot to pay and we needed the Internet because my fiancé worked from the ship. Last year sailing on Silver Spirit the Internet was included. We did not take any excursions which was fine, sometimes we just prefer staying on the ship. The pool and restaurant crew are the best! This voyage only had a few children and they were very well behaved. We were hoping that there wouldn't be any children on board, but the ones that were, were totally fine! There was a lot of activities, but we didn't participate in many. I loved the Champagne tasting! We have already signed up for our next cruise. We don't understand why some cruises are Venetian and get the additional 5%, whereas the one we just signed up on is not a Venetian sailing? It doesn't make any sense why some are and some are not. I choose this cruise as I had travelled with Silversea before and it was reasonable/OK. This cruise was hell. No champagne on arrival, chaos, lifts broken and generally disorganised. Did not see butler for the first 26 hours, so no drinks I wished to drink in my minibar. Minibar stocked with beer, coke and sugary drinks - nothing I would ever touch - so first 26 hours no personalised cabin service from butler as advertised. Did receive a note from butler saying he missed me - strange as I was several hours in cabin unpacking. Spa and hairdressing awful. Hair wash and blow dry not done in front of mirror - and end result when I was able to look in mirror was so bad I returned to cabin to use my own heated rollers. Spa treatment had to return next day for them to do it properly. Whole time having treatments in spa there is this horrendous pressure to change your beauty routine and do what they recommend. This will not happen, my cosmetic products are better than what Silversea use. Wheelchairs and zimmerframes in corridors so a health risk should there be a fire or need to escape without lighting. For two nights when they sea was a little choppy there was loud noises throughout the night which sounded like machinery moving so no sleep for two whole night. What is interesting that when I reported this horrendous noise and sleepless nights to staff on Silversea they assured me no one else had ever complained of such a noise. Only to find another couple on another deck having to be moved from their cabin for the same noise at night AND I READ ON CRUISE CRITIC yet another couple have experienced the same noise at night on Silversea -- so obvious Silversea lied to me when they told me no one else had every complained. I was ill when on board with respiratory infection and spent Xmas Day and Boxing Day in bed. Guests were sitting in public areas and cramped mini buses coughing and sneezing and 70% of guests probably suffered with the bug that was being spread around. Several guests left the cruise early due to bronchitis, one person had to be evacuated when at sea off California. Officers polite but I feel they had agenda and attitude because I complained about my cabin and sleepless nights. Lectures really just 'lessons' the speakers had not been involved 'hands on' in what they talked about. Many shows with singing were amateurish - the sixties night singing could only be described as 'shrill' and Suzy the flutist had performed on my previous Silversea cruise - Does she perform on all cruises? Not worth the money. Other passengers told me to cruise Seaborne in future. I am intending to take their advice. Read Less

The SILVER WHISPER is a very comfortable small cruise ship only carrying about 350 passengers. We never had to wait in line for anything. The stateroom was spacious and well designed. The bathroom, huge for a ship, included both an area for the shower and a separate tub. There was a huge walk in storage closet, almost a mini cabin in the cabin. Service in the cabin was excellent. Breakfast service in the cabin was best I have ever experienced on any ship. Food of high quality, a huge selection of breakfast choices, and always delivered right on time. The ship is well designed and everything within a short walk from the cabin. Interior design was rather bland, but all was comfortable. The pool lido deck area was well laid out and never seemed crowded. Food service for lunch at the pool lido was top notch with excellent and varied food items, all served quickly by the deck stewards. Bar service on the ship was excellent. Nightly entertainment was pretty good for a small ship....Six singer dancers presented the main nightly shows....my only complaint would be that they performed to taped music and not to a live band or orchestra. So you may ask why only 2 stars. Well I have sailed in recent years on Regent, Seabourn, Grill Class Cunard, and Crystal so I think I am a it of an expert on the luxury cruise segment. The problem with the SILVER WHISPER was the nightly dinner meal and service. Mind you the food was not bad, it was just very ordinary. Not one course would I remember as anything special. I suppose the pasta dishes were a bit above average, but nothing else. Deserts particuallarly poor and of small size. As a matter of fact all courses were of a small portion. Service at dinner was friendly, but unbelievably slow. You could not get out of any of the main dining rooms for dinner at less than 2 and 1/2 hours. We had dinner in the Italian Specialty restaurant one evening and that was not much better. I met a frequent Silversea cruiser on the ship and she said she always took dinner at the Pool / Lido outside Grill. I can see why ! Lunch here was much better than dinner in the main dining rooms. Unfortunately for me, the pool grill dinners were fully booked by the time I got on the ship. I booked Silversea expecting a fine dining experience. I did not find such an experience on the SILVER WHISPER. For the price paid, one would expect much better dinner service. My cruise last year on Holland America Line had much better food for dinner than you will find on Silversea. Read Less

Even though we had a nice Silver Suite 728, there was loud banging in the middle of the night that woke me several times. I guess our suite was next to a noisy location. Small bed, they said it was a queen but it’s the smallest queen bed I’ve ever seen. Food was mediocre at best. I found plastic shards in my burger, that they had the nerve to call a Waygu Beef Burger. My last morning I ordered eggs Benedict, as expected, yolk was solid and inedible. My wife took a bath and tub leaked all over the carpet in dressing room ( required two maintenance workers several hours to fix, but carpet was wet.) We weren’t able to eat in La Terazza or the Expensive place because reservations should of been made before the cruise left Ft. Lauderdale. My Butler told us that the good restaurants were booked solid. How am I supposed to know this? My bad. Port of Key West was a tourist trap and depressing(except for the roosters, roaming freely, it was the highlight of the cruise.). My wife’s room card needed to be replaced twice, as it wouldn’t open Suite, one of the girls at reception mentioned it might be because the cell phone screws up the key card? Really? Nice job making us feel like it was our fault. We supposedly had Premium WiFi but it was spotty at best. I guess 50 miles off Florida you’re in the Bermuda Triangle where TV or Internet is nonexistent. Couldn’t even watch Sunday Football!!! Silversea, here’s a word for you...TECHNOLOGY! Get with it. Our Butler was great and helped us stock the fridge and serve meals. Also did our laundry which was excellent. The life boat drill was a joke...they were so busy squeezing us into a small part of the decking, no one ever explained how to use the life vest!! Glad there wasn’t an emergency because this didn’t make me feel safe. The wine served was below average wine but you could purchase great expensive wine but I was so food sick, drinking was not a priority. Then we get off the ship and find out another cruise ship had to turn around and return to port because of food poisoning. Hmmmm...if you decide to go on this cruise please take my advice and bring Pepto and Tums....Imodium might also be a good idea. I’ve lived and eaten in NYC for over 30 years and I’ve never felt as low as the Hostess at La Terazza made me feel when she said, “we are totally booked and there is a Very very long waiting list also”. But she said she’ll try and let us know by phoning our Suite. Yes! We got a phone call in our suite! No they could not seat us at all....explain to me why I would ever go through this again? If you can’t seat 2 people for dinner at 8-9 pm, you are in the wrong business.! Read Less

We had been on Silver Sea long ago and were very pleased and impressed. Leaving from Fort Lauderdale while living in Florida was a huge factor, along with the Silver Sea reputation. Our dining experiences were wonderful, although the last night at dinner, the service was extremely slow. The dining staff in each venue was very pleasant and accommodating. The food was wonderful. It would have been better if we had we had more information about making reservations to try the lava stone dinner, but that did not happen for us in time. Exploring in Key West was as we expected. Bimini was surprisingly primitive. The people on the island whom we met were very friendly and helpful, but the "center" of town was hugely disappointing. We were told we could walk there and there were no cabs. That was not true, we got a cab. Also, walking to the center of town on streets with no sidewalks would have been dangerous. Read Less

Silversea holds themselves out as an ULTRA LUXURY cruise line but is far from that. The staff is non responsive and the ship is out dated. Furthermore, the dining experience was awful, not unless you like waiters SWEAT pouring down from your plates on your meals. This was because the Restaurants Air Conditioning system was malfunctioning for the entire cruise. Almost every passenger that I met was complaining but the ship's staff just kept making excuses and tried to poo poo the situation. Even the ships water system had to be shut down for many hours because of mechanical failure. I have attempted to speak with Silversea corporate office about this horrific experience but they would NOT return any of my phone calls when we returned. I would stay away as far as possible from Silversea - they are even close to how they advertise themselves and they wont even return phone calls to discuss the disaster!!! Read Less

My husband and I have sailed many times with Silversea. We have now been on all but the newest ship, the Muse. We always wanted to book an Owners' Suite and this short cruise was a perfect opportunity. The amenities and little extras were very appreciated. Our every wish was fulfilled. Because the cruise was only 3 days, we did not participate in any of the shore excursions. There is plenty to do onboard and we also had free wi-fi. I had my own Ipad along and enjoyed using it onboard. The weather was perfect and the seas were calm the whole time period. Disembarkation was a very smooth process and we were on our way home by 8:30am. We are, of course, Venetian Society members and will continue to sail with Silversea in the future. They offer very nice discounts for onboard booking of future cruises. For longer cruises, they offer Society members with 100+ nights gratis laundry service. Read Less

We were there for purely for pleasure; getting pampered with superior service. The staff is superb and eager to please; this certainly makes up for a few minor things that were less than perfect. There appear to be small areas that suggest a management drive to reduce the cost of operating. Examples include (a) a very narrow selection of beer options (without paying extra) (b) nightly show room entertainment limited to a group six singers (who were quite talented) (c) enrichment was limited to one lecturer. Other minor distractions were the nightly menu in the main dining room does not provide information for guests to know that there are "anytime" options always available. The merchandise in the "boutique" is very narrow and "pricey"; there used to be some affordable interesting items. The evening menu in La Terraza is continuing to be strictly Italian cuisine; it would be nice if Silversea reverted to the style of the early days when the nightly menu's were varied and we could experience different styles of food. As is the case for most cruise lines, the shore excursions are generally overpriced. Read Less

We love Silver Sea and usually are not disappointed. The timing for us on this cruise was after major hurricanes hit the islands, so there were fewer excursions and less activities available. St. Bart's was particularly disappointing since very few shops were open on Sunday and many were still damaged and not able to be open anyway. The butler feature that Silver Sea offers is usually something we brag about since you feel very special having someone wait on you and they personalize your service. However on this cruise, our butler was not very attentive. He was very pleasant and was always asked if everything was ok, but we had to ask him to remove a breakfast tray of dishes late in the afternoon, and one day had to ask for towels since they were missing. Our travelling companions in the room next door kept asking for ice because he didn't keep the bucket full. He did not offer to unpack or pack our bags. I don't expect this type of butler service to be the general case, but we were slightly disappointed. The small ships are the way to go for us, as the staff gets to know you very quickly and there are no long waiting lines for anything. We thought the food and wine was excellent. The entertainment was very good. Read Less
