We chose this cruise for the itinerary and we enjoyed ourselves. The stateroom was surprisingly big with plenty of storage and a very comfortable bed. The (included) Seven Seas restaurant was very nice, and we ate at the buffet a couple times and it was fine. What made the ship stand out was the staff, quick to help and unfailingly cheerful. The gym was very nice with newer machines and free weights, although crowded at peak hours. The entertainment was so-so, not because the performers were lacking (they were fine) but because it was typical cruise-ship fare. Bingo, cheesy games, and music for the 65+ crowd. Not my thing. Embarkation wasn't well managed. Our materials listed the wrong gate, resulting in the need for two separate taxis. The line was 90 minutes long. The lady who checked us in wrote the wrong stateroom number on our passports, twice. If I hadn't been watching closely someone else might have gotten our passport at the end of the cruise. Pros: Staterooms, Staff, Itinerary, Food. Cons: Entertainment, Embarkation in Miami. Read Less

Although an old ship, very well designed. Jogging/walking track is on deck 6. This is much bigger than new ships. Chairs out of the way and no smokers on this level. We loved this and walked/jogged multiple times/day. Also ship is great for non-smokers -- designated smoking areas worked well to keep smoke away from non-smokers except for casino smoke, which made its way to some common areas (but much better than other ships we've been on). Service was exceptional and we felt like VIPs. Our server's name is Mary and she was the best we've ever had on any cruise line. We dined at main restaurant for lunch and dinner. Past cruises we ate at the buffet. The reason for a 4 not a 5 is the quality and selection of buffet compared to other NCL past cruises. Salad buffet was very limited (no mixed greens, no spinach, sometimes no tomatoes, etc). The rest was fantastic and the great choices and service at main dining made up for the buffet. Entertainment was great. One group Amber Strings (from Poland) performed at orchestra/concert level every time. They were wonderful. Ports and shore excursions were great. We did 3 excursions and explored the other ports by ourselves. Tours were worth the high prices. We would cruise this ship again. Read Less

We didn't enjoy this cruise. We have had poor dining experience. The waiting period is long from ordering to the end of the dinner. Some food are not fresh. In at least two meals the fish and fish burger I ordered are very old and taste awful. I don't know how long the fish has been in the storage. The breakfast are all the same. Most of the ship activities (e.g., "seminars") are designed to sell something or service to the guests. The port visits are poorly organized, with short stay duration at some ports and limited number/choice of shore excursions. They didn't provide enough port city information to guests neither. We bought an expensive wi-fi package. The wi-fi speed is so low (2 mb/min on average) that virtually the money was wasted. The wi-fi is even not suitable for text-alone e-mails, totally not possible to use Facebook. We have to use limited port stay time to get connected with others (i.e., find a restaurant/coffee in order to use the wi-fi there). Read Less

My husband and I had a great 15 days on board the Norwegian Sun. Can now check off the Panama Canal from my Bucket List. The Sun is very manageable, once you realize that decks are cut apart and you can;t get there from here. You might have to go up or down a deck to get to the other side. The cabin, 9235, was small but we managed. One afternoon we came back to the cabin to find our desk chair missing. Tried to use the phone, but that didn't work so my husband went to Guest Relations to report both. Within minutes the Assistant Head of Housekeeping was at the door and another chair was delivered shortly thereafter and our phone was fixed quickly, too. The food was probably the best on any cruise line that we have been on. Went to Cagney's once and it was fabulous. Freestyle dining is great. Met lost of nice people. The entertainment was just OK, nothing special. The ship's troupe was very good, lots of energy and good voices. Early on we had a few glitches in the dining room which were addressed nicely. In fact, the are manager became our best friend and we wanted for nothing under his watch. Yes, I would sail on this ship again. Read Less

We go on a cruise every year for our anniversary. This was our 3rd with Norwegian and planning our 4th. We arrived at the port and were herded with all the other people into the general area. Because we were silver latitude clients we were suppose to receive priority boarding, sparkling champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our stateroom. We felt very special about being rewarded for our loyalty. No priority boarding, no strawberries and no sparkling champagne. We were slightly offended. The rest of the cruise was without incident. The food was very good. Especially La Cucina's and Cagneys. Great service and choices. The shows were very well done, and we saw all three. Plus we fell in love with Rox & Fer. What a great duo who did tributes to the Beatles, Santana and Creedance Clearwater. There is only one pool area which was always very crowded with a lack of sun chairs. The stateroom (Balcony on deck 10) was very comfortable and the bathroom area was probably the best we have had. Next cruise we will be gold latitude clients and I hope we are not disappointed or forgotten.. Read Less

this cruise had ups and downs...and really downs. 1st the service was pretty good throughout. A great drink package system. Activities good and a few good entertainers. A great Hypnotist show! The food was pretty bland and unexciting. This was a southern cruise so the ship had to get south and it seemed the Captain sped the ship through heavy winds which made for a few days of rocking and sickness for passengers. BINGO was the biggest ripoff i have ever seen. When we started they could not tell us what the first two game prizes were to be? After a couple people won the games they finally reveled the prize total ( $200.00) HUH? $48, 70+, or over 100+ for card packs which ONLY let you win 2- $200+ games and a $5000 jackpot IF you BINGO in 47 numbers or less (UNLIKELY) then turns to a $300+jackpot SO...about $800 in prizes (3 games) for $48-$100+person entry They had a couple hundred players so the boat took in probably $10-20k and paid out less than 1k..Ripoff...don't not play NCL BINGO!!!! We chose this cruise because there was a great deal including drinks and dinning and tips. The ship was nice for us, not too big or too small. The entertainment was not that great. We liked the comedian but there was only 1 for the whole 10 night cruise. The Norwegian Dancers and Singers were okay but they put on way too many shows. The food was good, not great. NO LOBSTER on the whole cruise. The specialty dinning rooms were disappointing. Didn't like the Italian, La Cuccina at all. Although we have been on other NCL ships and likes La Cuccina. The French restaurant was not that great. We did enjoy MONDERNO, the Brazilian Restaurant. We had to wait unusually long times sometimes to get a drink. THe one shore excursion in Martinique was AWFUL. THe bus was so hot, the air did not work and it was long and windy. DO NOT take this one. This was the City TOur. However, I did LOVE the Antigua one with snorkel and kyack. Read Less

This was our first 10 day cruise, went to Eastern Caribbean islands, and several ports were changed due to the hurricanes. This was our third Norwegian cruise and I can say our best!! Sailed out of Miami, embarkation was quickest ever. Would give a five star rating to the dining, entertainment, and especially the staff on this ship. The only complaint we have was the tender into port - very slow disembarkation in St Lucia. We did a day pass on both St Kitts and St Lucia, shore excursions through ship for other 3 ports. The entertainment included a wide range of styles, very enjoyable and good variety. Thought the singers and dancers were fabulous. The food quality and quantity has definetly improved as well - our package included 4 speciaty restaurants, all very good, however, was satisfied with choices in main dining rom as well. Very pleased with this cruise and would recommend the Sun highly!! Read Less

This was our 3rd cruise with NCL. The first 2 were absolutely wonderful. We have 2 kids that enjoy it as well. From embarkation we noticed a difference. In the other 2 ships we were greeted with music, cheering, clapping, high 5s,and a very high level of energy from the crew. This ship, none of the above. Just scanned the cards and said welcome. We boarded at 1:20 and were told the rooms weren't ready yet and would be at 1:30. We went and got a drink and by that time we were able to get to our rooms. We immediately met our room steward, who we saw multiple times per day. Previous cruises we had not seen them more than once. We were in a balcony which was great. The only complaint about the room itself was the hair dryer which was awkwardly placed and got very hot. However, we had requested that the twin beds be placed together for a queen bed, pillow tops be placed on the bed, and it was our anniversary and sons birthday. Upon entering the room the beds were separated, there were no pillow tops, and we only had the card/cake for our son and not our anniversary. Our steward immediately fixed the beds but we were told that there were no more pillow tops. We had also ordered a 6 pack of water from the bar downstairs around dinner time and had to wait a full 24 hours to receive it after dinner the following day. We got half of our luggage within the first hour, the other half, not until about 7pm, which was very odd. Our larger piece of Samsonite luggage had the handle ripped off which also had our custom luggage tag on it. We mentioned it and they "attempted" to fix it but couldn't stop we were given an insurance claim number and told to call corporate when we returned so we could be reimbursed. Haven't been home long enough to do this yet. The first night we all woke up very thirsty. Myself and my son woke up with our allergies bothering us. The post nasal drip got progressively worse over the 10 days. By the time our trip ended we both ended up with a horrible hacking cough and severe allergy attacks, even with allergy medicine. Not sure what was in the air, or room, but it wasn't good. We met others who were experiencing the same. We did experience some rough seas the second day, up to 12ft, but it wasn't that bad for us. We had a total of 4 days at sea, of those 4 days, one of the pools was closed at last part of the day, for 3 of the days. The outdoor eating area was the same, at least part or all of it was closed for the majority of the cruise. The buffet was ok, subpar to others. I had asked the breakfast staff for chocolate milk and was told no by 2 staff then 1 volunteered to go get some. Lunch buffet was almost the same every day. Dinner was ok, but again very similar from day to day. Dishes would run out at times and take time to be refilled. The meat cutter or pasta chef would disappear and take at least 5 min to return. Dessert was always good. Other ships would have themed nights for food but this one didn't. We didn't see the captain at all, and would several times on other ships. The photographers were good but service eh. We had the family picture done upon embarkation and when we looked at it there were spots on the kids faces. We asked to have it retouched and they did. The retouch however, now had a green blur around our daughter. We asked to have it fixed again, and was told no twice. On the 9th night we mentioned it and was told no problem. We picked it up on the last night and saw the green was less but marks were back on their faces. We had asked for originals to be kept so we could compare and they weren't. We asked for the other one because we would rather have green "halo" instead of spots on our children. We were told it would be brought to our room, no problem. Only to find out after we left the ship that we were charged for it without our knowledge or approval. Too late to do anything about it. The ports were ok, 3 of the 5 had changed due to a recent hurricane. One of the ports we had to tender in and that was the worst experience ever. We didn't get off the tender boat until 1pm only to be back on board by 4:30. The other 2 unplanned ports had limited excursions. Overall the ports were fine. The kids club was wonderful, as always. The kids loved it every day. When the kids were in the kids club we would frequent the casino. I played with several others that I saw most nights. We would play blackjack and right away noticed something was off with the dealer. She would mis-count, would have blackjack and not flip it, would collect new bets without playing, and would not talk to us. A few of the dealers were like this as well, poker dealers not knowing rules of poker, and just not a great place to play. Around the 7th night a pit boss asked how it was going and we explained. We were told that this was a training ship and that most staff were in training. So we had experienced, pleasant staff, and brand new staff that were in training. Which greatly explained the discrepancy between service. Overall, it wasn't a horrible trip, but compared to other NCL cruises the service was lacking Read Less

Ncl sun review: bottom of the barrel compared to carnival conquest and rc allure. Embarassed that we took our neighbors to this ship for their first cruise. Ultimate drink package: be careful on this one as it does not include everthing and last day of cruise in the evening they close everything and you can not get anything to drink including water>(we had caught a chest infection and were in need of some ginger ale-walked the entire ship and phoned guest services and were told everything is closed and could not get a drink anywhere on the ship----very frustrating----so take some drinks to bed with you on the last night if yo w ant anything to wet your whistle!!! Many top shelf liquors are not included and a simple cup of coffee may cost you extra. I was alarmed when they ran out of patron silver, so i opted to have the next patron to which i was told "i did not qualify for this". i went to the front desk and they told me it was not included in my package. i asked perhaps they could give me a list of what was and was not included and was told, there is no list. a little sketchy if you ask me. on royal caribbean we did have to pay extra for starbucks, understandable as they make fancies, but this ship charged our neighbor for a cup of coffee with extra milk-----ridiculous over charging like that. if you want a cup of coffee, make sure you get it at the buffet or as we learned, each time we ordered something we asked "is this covered under my drink package?" .....and at that we still had charges on our bills for drinks we did not order. Careful leaving your card with the bartenders as they just grab any card when ringing things through! we were charged for many things we didnot order including specialty coffees when we didn't order any coffee at all, and also charged for drinks at bars that we were not even at. you are to settle your bill before leaving the ship which is impossible as i talked to vicky at the front desk and she promised to have it all taken care of, and on day of leaving, our bill was still not settled, so with a flight time of 11am,,,,,,you have to leave with an unsettled bill. Cabin: size average. Carpets in dire need of replacement. our room had a leak in the plumbing and the carpet was soaked and smelled of sewage. their remedy was to pour perfume on the carpet leaving us with headaches. eventually told them just to stop and we suffered through the rest of the cruise with the smell. Dining: the free style dining: be prepared for a long wait if you are not willing to share a table. And also be prepared to wait up to an hour to receive your meal. meals in the dining room are repetitive and mundane. a lot of the food served in the dining room is also available at the buffet. there is a dress code, so do not show up unless you are dressed in sleeved collared shirts men and women, you may show up in a bikini and a wrap and that's ok. Specialty restaurants: nothing special here, so don't fret if you don't get in. most of the food is also available in the dining room. la cucina was average italian cuisine and was okay. cagneys steak house not worth the money. we all ordered the rib eye steak and none of us finished it as it was full of grizzle and fat. food was extremley salty and fried were covered in powderred parmesan cheese. moderna churascario was actually not too bad. there is a salad bar to which you serve yourself. they will serve you bowls of sides and you turn over your card when you are ready to try out the meats. another note, if you book a "time", be prepared to wait as they are extremely disorganized. we asked why the long wait and were told they were busy as we looked at a half empty restaurant??? tepanyaki was a huge dissapointment. i had tried to prebook this (but you can not and have to wait to book on the ship) so made sure we were first on the ship to ensure we would get in and did. the boys that cooked the food basically sang songs and banged their utensils around on the grill. food was extremely salty and not good and the desert was green tea cake and icecream to which no one at our table could eat it as it tasted like grass. we have been to this japanese style of restaurants in other places where you watch them put on a great display so this was a huge dissapointment. Entertainment: there was a rock and roll show that wasn't too bad, but compared to other ships, the entertainment was more like summer camp where your leaders put on all the shows. there are piano players and singers around the ship and some the crew will just stand and play a guitar and sing in some of the restaurants, but nothing spectacular to report here. the ship is small , so shows are repetative , so not much going on here. some of the "events" we went to where they were to teach you how to do hair for example ended up being a product push. no problem, we just left and went back to the pool or our rooms. Embarkation: average. if you have a reservation through the sun for an excursion they allow you off the ship first. if you prebook your own excursions, ncl won't accomdate you, so be ready to get in line first so you don't miss your excursion. We had to do a tender boat to which you had to go at a certain time and get a ticket to get off the ship, was a bit disorganized and long line ups. my husband ran back to our room to grab extra id as we were told we needed it, and when he got back we were told we can't go with our group. i caused a bit of a stink as we could see our friends walking on to the elevator in front of us, so she reluctantly let us go but not without a fight. was not impressed with the treatment by the staff. Enrichment activities: a bit of a joke. again much like summer camp for adults. we attempted to go to the "learn to do hair" and the "womans pamper" groups and found it to be a product push telling us how we need their products and "today only" you get $20 off the already over priced products and services. if you do want a massage, etc may i suggest waiting until you get into the ports,,,,many of the ports have amazing servies available at amazing prices...we got a 1 hour massage for $35 usd with a rmt and got a receipt for home! they do have exercise classes at the pool in the morning where they do dancing etc. the fellow doing that also does a variety of things on the ship-he looked exhausted most of the time but was attempting to be chipper and cheerful. the video game lounge for the children was always empty. with kids having their own hand helds, they really should just make that room for free for the kids, if not it's a waste of space. Fitness and recreation: they do have a nice gym to work out overlooking the ocean. it is very busy in there at certain times of day. as per recreation, there is a theater a disco and a lot of bars. there was nothing spectacular to report here....very average and below average. they did have paint classes....we tried to sign up the second day but they were full. cost is $35 usd. Service: sad to declare that this was probably the worst service i've received on a ship and at a resort. i found those waving around tips got served before you regardless to how long you have been waiting. in once instance i watched the bar tender serve everone but me, when finally i got frusterated and yelled wow just wow, when again a fellow arrived at the bar beside me and he went to serve him and the kind gentleman just told the bar tender "i do believe this lady is before me" to which i loudly replied thank you for your kind manners! one particular bar tender in the lobby was fantastic-can't remember his name but you know him by his bubbly personality and his "hey baby" to everyone male and female....he's cheery and a delite......few and far between on this ship. Shore excursions: average in price and about the same as most ships. due to the hurricanes there was not a rebooking etc but that was one thing that was totally understandable with the circumstances beyond the ships control. Public rooms: most rooms were kepts clean but there is an odour across this ship as it's old and desperately needs updating and new carpeting. Read Less
