Intro - My girlfriend and I were feeling the need for a vacation back at Christmas time. Got on good old Travelocity and saw a decent deal for the Feb 4 sailing to Mexico on the Spirit. Carnival is the only line I've ever been on and I've done her sister ship, The Pride, a couple of times. I really do like the layout of the ship compared to others I've been on.

So we usually do a cruise. This time to keep it simple we did The Mexican Riviera ~ again. This cruise was the fourth time for the "Riviera". First time for Carnival.
The Cabin and balcony were great.Lots of storage and space under the beds for our suitcases, bath adequate with a "seashell" full of freebies ~ toothpaste, "Snore Strips" disposable razor, Cabin Steward Rahan

Carnival Spirit, 5 nights, Feb. 12-17, 2012 sailed from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas. A friend and I shared a super cheap cabin category 1A, inside. Cabin 1255 is the same size and shape as more expensive interior cabins. As this was just a quick cruise, the cabin was fine though I always prefer a balcony.

Before embarking on my first solo cruise, I had read some negative things about the Carnival Spirit, including embarkation issues, so I was pleasantly surprised that conditions had dramatically improved since the Hawaii/Ensenado/San Diego cruise.

We have been on the Spirit for 3 or 4 times. In July 2012 we cruised to Alaska and the Spirit was as wonderful as ever. However we just returned from the Mexican Riviera on the Spirit again and what a difference.

The theme of this cruise seems to be disorganization and if this had been my first cruise it would be my last. The ship is poorly maintained and not in good shape. There are chairs in the atrium that most people would have tossed, paint is chipping etc. Beyond that, however, the daily tasks are not done promptly.
