Chose this cruise due to the family friendly positive reviews online and the waterpark features on top deck. We felt welcome from day 1 of our 9 day cruise. Did not take long to navigate our way around the ship. Leaving from Sydney was incredible. Stunning views of the iconic Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Super family friendly facilities on board. The STAFF were super friendly and accommodating, and the FOOD absolutely amazing. The chefs amazing. Worth paying a little extra to Dine at Nouveau Restaurant as an added treat . 24 hour ice cream and Pizza for Night Owls young and old. Great security. Always felt like were in safe hands throughout the entire cruise, day or night. The Captain was lovely and there always seemed to be an opportunity to see him around the ship. Favourite Captains phrase " As we say in Italy Ciao, Ciao". Waiter staff were fun and funny. Loved every dinner experience and all of the dinner performances. There is definately something for everyone to enjoying board. The Main Lounge shows and Comedy Club performances were great showcasing some amazing talent. First cruise for my husband and kids. They are still buzzing... Our 12 and 13 year old boys had a ball. They enjoyed Ocean Club and socialising after hours with their new friends. We all Enjoyed some Great evening movies chilling out on deck chairs with popcorn and a blankie on cooler nights. Enjoyed swimming and snorkelling in Mare, Lifou and the beautiful paradise Isle of Pines. We even Swam with as well as observed giant Turtles in their natural habitat. Loved Noemea. Recommend the Tchou Tchou Train in Noemea for a fun and educational excursion . Enjoyed sights and sounds of the city and explored back roads as well as some of the most beautiful panoramic views of Noumea from the lookouts. Recommend Sydney 3 hour bus excursion if you can squeeze this in at the e d of your trip. BEST CRUISE EVER !! Great memories!! Read Less

We chose this cruise as it was a good deal, and had wanted to try the Carnival Spirit. Embarkation was very quick and efficient. The cabin was comfortable. Our cabin steward was helpful and had a quiet gentleness about him. We chose late dining in the dining room, which was the highlight of our cruise as every night the talented dining staff provided entertainment before the meal finished, and encouraged all the diners to join in. Great fun. The wait staff at our table were excellent, making us feel like special family. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The food areas on deck 9 were all quite good, especially the salad bar which had a very good variety of lovely fresh salads and tasty sauces and mayonnaise in many flavours. The BBQ on 10 was delicious. We did not try any specialty dining as the included food was all very good. The evening show time started out pretty ordinary at the beginning of the cruise but the last 3 or 4 nights were very good. We had a fantastic cruise director who kept things bright and busy. My husband and I travelled as a couple, but felt that families seem to be very well catered for, and we enjoyed seeing all ages of children enjoying themselves. We have suggested to our family that this would be a great cruise for them with young children. We are looking to see when we can fit in our next Carnival cruise. Read Less

My first cruise.A solo adventure. Firstly, as I was traveling Solo and paid the Single supplement for an internal room, I was surprised & pleased to be upgraded to a balcony! Thanks Carnival! As a Middle aged Man that is a Farmer, I have to admit I was a little overwhelmed with the number of people everywhere. The activities included meet ups for Singles. Why not meetups for Solo travelers? less pressure...that's a market some Cruise lines have identified and cater for. I enjoyed attending the Empire evening dinner programme - I was placed on a table with some solo travelers and they were a good bunch. Even though it was not school holidays there were definitely a lot of kids on board. One Excursion I found to be excellent was the "behind the scenes" excursion which takes about 15 guests into the background of the ship - visiting the galley, laundry, Engine control room and via thew main highway corridor for staff only all the way up to the bridge and to meet the Captain. If you want to go on this Excursion book ASAP - its very limited and sells out very fast. Two of my dinner pals missed out. Food - You can eat healthy! The Salad bar was amazing! I still managed to put on a pile of weight though. Read Less

We have sailed on other cruise liners in the past but prefer Carnival, in saying this we much prefer the Spirit to the Legend as it seems to have more atmosphere & is more of - as the ship says - a fun ship & there a far more activities especially trivia which we enjoy playing & the entertainment is better. The cabin staff did an excelent job as did the guest service staff - especially Gabriela, Louise, Amy & Melinda they were very helpful & nothing was too much trouble for them. The cruise director Lee & Prince Eric were great & allways friendly. Although we missed Dessi - The service from Vinod- Maitre'd & Izabella - Maitre'd excellent, couldn't have been better. As for embarkation & disembarkation absolutely no problems ran very smoothly. We intend to sail with Carnival again hopefully in the near future, we are interested in the Hawaiian to Sydney & from Sydney to Singapore cruises. Read Less

Our travel agent suggested we cruise with Carnival Australia and are we pleased we did. Transfer from sydney airport circular key was great , met by a friendly lady from Carnival at airport after she was happy that we had all our baggage we were transported ship.Saved ourselves a bundle using there service rather than a taxi. Embarkation went really smooth and took about 20minutes and as we had a 12.30 to 1300 check in time slot we had time to explore our new home.. We were advised by check in staff that there would be 1 hour delay befor our cabin was ready wich was fine with us as we were peckish so decided to seek out some lunch on Lido Buffet deck 9 which had just opend. After reading a few gripes about the food maybe some of the critics need to be realistic.. The Food and choices for lunch in the Lido buffet was "Outstanding" . What a gereat start and we were still in port. We had decided to spoil ourslves and get a Balcony cabin 4158 on the main deck and it was woth every cent..As per brochure.. We went to the Empire restaurant for dinner and the service food and general running was absolutely first class. Numerous choice of food available in all eating places .AND SO CLEAN If you like bautifull food served by happy people and being well looked after you will love this ship.. Entertainment on board in tth Pharrohs Palace was excellent with a differant show each night Numerous places to go for a drink depending on your tastes . Had a wee plaly in the casino but was not my night allgood. Lots and lots of things to do on sea days with organised things happening around the ship Shore excursions well organised interesting Our room steward Sabina kept us well informed and couldn't do enough for us .so Be Generous at the tail end. We had portaits taken by "Donald the photographer from India" and wow it was money well spent much cheaper than a studio sitting on land, Ask for Donald l from India if you are wanting specilal moments All the staff on the Carnival Spirit are absolutely Marvelous so remember To reward there efforts to make your cruise as good as ors Can't say enough about this cruise ,would we do it again YES YES YES. We had a great time with our family. There was so much for the kids to do, always something happening. Kids club was great for them too, they enjoyed it every now and again....,good break for the adults aswell. Cabin was great and Ronald couldnt do enough for us. Thought though that the food was a bit bland, although there was always plenty there. The hamburger and the mexican burritto bar were fantastic. The shows were good. Bingo was fun. The stage shows were very good aswell. They really need a drinks package onboard though, as drinks were expensive. Mystery Island was our favourite stop on the trip. Snorkelling there was amazing. The Captain was a very friendly, he was often mingling with passengers. We also did "The Behind The Scenes Tour", was well worth the money. You really get to appreciate the effort and work that goes on behind the scenes. The Captain was very welcoming to us all when we went up to the Bridge. Read Less

By mistake! We did not notice the "Family Friendly" statements. I have never seen so many overactive kids on any previous cruise. Families would find this ship ideal to allow their kids let their hair down while they relax in the Serenity deck area. The staff members were great and always helpful and relaxed. The food was good in the 'formal' Empire restaurant, but varied at times elsewhere. Dress standards, although specified at the Empire entrance, were more often ignored than observed, particularly on the formal Eloquent evenings. The cabin and balcony were both quite ok and were clean and tidy. Our cabin was very noisy due to slamming balcony doors and the weight lifting equipment directly above it. The activities were typically fun-filled but if you wanted more serious activities, you were disappointed. As I said, great for younger families. Stage entertainment was quite good, and one singer in particular was marvellous. The Adult Joke nights were fine if you liked crude, rude and continuous swearing. The four shore excursions were excellent for escaping the ship and all islands provided a great day out. Would we travel on Carnival again? No. Would we recommend Carnival Spirit to our friends? Not if we want to keep them! Read Less

This was our first cruise with Carnival. We chose this cruise to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my wife's birthday. We were very happy with the choice for the following reasons * value for money * friendly and enthusiastic staff throughout the ship * fantastic dining experience in the Empire Restaurant with good quality food, correct and friendly service and amazing entertainment by staff * comfortable, well appointed cabin * relaxing Serenity adults only area * smooth embarkation, disembarkation and shore excursion processes * good quality evening entertainment - not outstanding but pretty good as part of the overall experience. * clean and well maintained public areas * not only the acknowledgement of our special occasions by staff but the genuine joy in helping us celebrate * the efforts to cater for children. There were a number of children on the cruise but as elderly guests we were able to avoid them Really our only complaint was the expectation to pay for room service meals that were available free elsewhere on the ship. In summary the Carnival Spirit is marketed as a "fun ship". This is exactly what you get in spades. Read Less

We did a 10 night cruise. This was our 3rd cruise although our 1st with Carnival. This one was the best!! We were a group of 11 and we arrived in Sydney early in the morning. We had a connecting bus that took us to the ship. Our luggage was taken at the port and sorted out for us. The next time we saw it was in our rooms later that evening. We only had our hand luggage with us. Since we arrived quite early, we went and had some breakfast in a mall not far away and then walked around the harbour and took the kids to the Opera House. By the time we came back to the ship it was around 12. It was not long after this that we were permitted to start boarding. Embarkation was a breeze although some in our group did have issues but was quickly rectified. Our cabins were on level 8 and balcony rooms. Ours was 8204 and was on the left side of the ship. We got, what we believe, were the best views. The opera house (and on return), the Pilot (stears the ship through the heads) gets on and off the ship on the left side and we found that interesting to watch (The tug boat driver was very good), arrivals at the islands (especially Noumea you can watch the islanders dance from your balcony), the tender boats seem to be used on the left side also so we watched the early and late people getting on and off and then watched the crew bring the boats back in. Not an huge big deal but we did find it interesting and a small plus. A cruise is what YOU make it and the Carnival Team made our job easy! They are fantastic. There is a lot to do if you want or you can do nothing at all. If you don't like trivia's, bingo and shows and kids running around a little bit maybe a cruise isn't for you but even then you can relax on your balcony with a cocktail if you have one or there is Serenity for over 18's. Our group Included 2 kids, 1 teenager and 2 younger adults. They all had a fantastic holiday and so did us parents. The first 3 days at sea there was so much to do (or not to do) and Bingo was great fun. Didn't win but hey, gotta try. The pot is worth the try and the kids loved it too. It's $30 for 5 games and is obviously cheaper for less games. Our room was great. Very clean and tidy and I would try for the same room again. The only thing with it and it was only a small thing in my books was being on level 8 it is just below Lido deck and that is where alot is happening so you could hear some banging around sometimes. If you are a light sleeper maybe a lower deck might be the go but it didn't bother us too much. There was plenty of room for luggage. We slid our suitcases under the bed and we did need to take extra coat hangers. They are provided but I like to hang my clothes. We also took our own shampoo and conditioner. It is provided but I like to take my own of that too. The cabin stewards are just fantastic. Little towel creatures are very cute. John and Nattapon were our stewards and did a great job twice a day. Nothing was too hard. We had the earlier sitting for dinner in the dining room which we felt was perfect. The waiters were fantastic. If the kids didn't like something they took it and replaced it with something else. There was plenty to choose from and a different menu every night. The waiters entertained every night and we joined in. Dinners were a great time. Maja was our waitress and we loved her. A highlight of our dinner was what we called 'the shots guy' (Eridelvis). He brought us a shot of what ever the special of the day was every night. He did a song with us as we had our shot. It was just a bit of fun we adults looked forward to and provided some great laughs. From dinner we went to the evening show which was always great and another highlight. After the shows we sometimes went to the PG comedy shows which were a good laugh . The adult comedy was later and was just hilarious. The early dinner sitting was great for us since we had kids and could then do things with them after dinner and then they could go to kids club (or bed) and we could then do what ever for a bit. Kids were booked into the kids clubs but really didn't use it much. When they went, they did enjoy it. There was just so much to do together. We only used it a couple of times. We also had older kids too so was a lot easier. We didn't really do shore excursions. They are expensive if purchased on board. You can purchase them on shore cheaper. I had previously been to Lifou and Noumea and so didn't do a tour this time. In Mare, we went on the bus to Yejele which was a beautiful beach. Just watch out for the blue bottles. Mystery Island was our favourite. There is a little market and some dancers. It was so beautiful sitting on the beach and snorkelling was great. We went in the morning, went back to the ship for a shower and lunch and went back and walked around the island. The tide was out and we could see the beautiful coral pools. But back to the food. OMG! There was just so much food. I really don't know how anyone could fault it. You would have to be very fussy to find fault or not able to find what you like. There is Indian, Chinese, Japanese, BBQ, Pizza, Hamburgers, Roast, Salads, they cater for different diets, Desserts (another OMG), you can make your own sandwich if you want one, fruit, yoghurt, I could just go on and on. Oh and you can eat in the dining room and then the buffet if you really wanted to but I can tell you, you will not fit it all in. There is the bottomless bubbles package too which you can purchase at the beginning and get unlimited soft drinks. A cruise is such good value for money and the staff are faultless. They made everything so easy and smooth running. Leaving was so sad. So, we found nothing negative at all about our holiday. We loved every second and would not hesitate to go on the Spirit again. What else can I say but Awesome! Great ship and staff. Departing from Sydney was great as we had time to explore around the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge as some of the people we were travelling with had not been to Sydney previously. Right from the moment you get on board you are treated like family, John are stateroom steward and his team called us by our names straight away which was great. There is nothing to complain about with food, plenty of it, changed daily and good quality. The staff seemed to enjoy working on this ship and it came through their attitudes. The entertainment and things to do on the ship is great, but if you didn't want to do anything there is many areas to just sit and watch the ocean go by. We will be going again and are already looking to the future to see what is available on the Carnival Spirit. One last mention to the cruise director Lee, he was fantastic and assisted everywhere to make the cruise most enjoyable. Read Less
