Because it was leaving from Adelaide and returning to Adelaide that made this cruise very appealing to us, ment we didn't have to fly anywhere before, the timing was great for us and the destinations also were very appealing. The price wasn't restrictive for us and we really didn't know what to expect because it was our first cruising experience, We felt the overall experience was wonderful and will be seriously looking at doing another cruise to a different region in the very near future. We found the staff on all levels friendly and very professional unfortunately some of the passengers didn't show Australia in a very good light, but I guess you get all types on a cruise with so many passengers. We found the shows in the theares wonderful and the movies also very acceptable, the only bad movie was called the Final Portrait it stared geoffrey Rush but as a movie it was terrible. Read Less

My wife and I have cruised with Princess Line ships now on four occasions, two on the Dawn Princess, one aboard the Sun Princess, and now the Golden Princess. For us older citizens we both found the Golden Princess a little too big. It was difficult to remember where things were, and quite an effort to find them. Decks were not quite as "friendly", and the Promenade deck was much narrower than on the two other ships. Also, I found the sauna/spa area too difficult and dangerous to utilize. Wet, slippery deck, steps, and not enough hand rails for safety. Never-the-less everything else was the usual Princess standard. Food, dining, cabin, (and particularly the steward service) and other facilities are highly recommended. Age should not be a barrier as we saw many people on the Golden Princess using walking sticks, walker frames and even a number of motorized wheelchairs. Cruising is a wonderfui relaxing experience - When does the next one depart! Read Less

Short cruise with my girlfriend to Tasmania! Travelled with Princess many times and had read some negative reviews of the Golden Princess but we absolutely loved it! While some of the decor is a little tired the ship was immaculate in all areas. Embarkation was a breeze and we were on the ship in no time. Spent lots of time in the Sanctuary where we were waited on exceptionally well. We were told the ship was full but we didn't experience delays or queues on any day. Staff are happy, helpful and nothing was a problem. Dining experience was excellent. We had a mini suite and really enjoyed the extra space, particularly in the bathroom. The entertainment was exceptional, particularly the piano bar singer who had the audience on their feet singing and dancing every night. Disembarkation was very quick, only downside was that we didn't want to get off!! One of our best cruises! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Golden Princess!! Read Less

Our 5 night cruise on board the Golden Princess was a chance to get a look at what Tasmania has to offer. The ship was like a mini maze inside, but always looked catchy. Our mini suite stateroom was a good size and looked great. However we did encounter some problems with the fold out bed for our daughter, as it wasn't very comfortable. But luckily our steward was quick to add another mattress which helped. In the theatre, the shows with the singers and dancers were spectacular, however there were limited shows for the duration of our trip. We bought an internet package, but found it was slow and wouldn't work in the stateroom, so we ended up using it in the internet café. Our stateroom steward was always friendly and quick to fix any problem that came up. In the dining room our main waiter constantly provided excellent service. Helping someone in our group who'd been injured and needed soft, cut up food. The table opposite us had children who one night were crying. He calmed them down almost immediately by putting on a small magic show. In our dining room the food and presentation was very good. But there was limited options. Even though we did have some problems our steward and dining room waiter both provided exceptional service to solve them. Read Less

We chose this short criuse as a mini break and to sample a Mini Siute for future criuses, but we were upgraded to a penthhouse suite. The extras that came with this upgrade made it extra special and we are so greatful to Princess for this. One of the extras we realy did like was the club dining room it was so relaxing and not tied to any specific time, we will seriously look at a club upgrade for future criuses that we do with Princess. We did a mix of dining options from club class to buffet and were impressed with the overall service and quality of food and beverage. As far as entertainment went, what bit we did see was quite good, but I will never cease to be amazed at the number of handbags and cardigans that adorn seats that in reality should have been available to us and then to stand at the back and watch people arrive after us and take a seat. Really Princess you need to take action on this, I dare you! It was a five day cruise so we only did one excursion around Hobart, the visit to Pt Arthur was interesting from a historic view. Embarkation at Melbourne was quite seamless for us as we had priority boarding. However the disembarkation in Adelaide left a bit to be desired, it was slow and late. This was in no way the fault of Princess but was a fault of the Adelaide port authorities who are just not up to it, the do need to lift their game. Read Less

A holiday trip to see the lovely coast and fiords of sleepy New Zealand this year. Whilst the Port of Melbourne holds promise for its proximity to the city and wide vistas, the facilities are rustic andvthe traffic dropping off was gridlocked adding $20 to our uber fee. If you are a local, recommend the tram. In any case, staff did their best to work efficiently to welcome us aboard. The ship has ample space and areas to find peace away from the pools. The galeforce winds and summer temperature in NZ does not encourage you to swim, the pools being icecold. So I missed the joy of a heated pool with a roof present on ships of this standard with HAL. The decor is elegant and the atrium was well used for coffees, drinks, snacks and music. This area is a great design. I loved the ship in every way, but I want to fill you in on the secret Window Suites which only exist on Golden Princess. Level 4 is Fiesta Deck, immediately forward is the theatre, and close by are future cruises, shorex and the Crown Grill. Towards the midline is the atrium services. Sounds like a rotten location and these 7 suites are the only passenger cabins at this level. It was the most convenient, quiet and comfortable cabin we have experienced for a great price- just a few hundred more than a minisuite, with full suite amenities. Wish there were more ships offering these cabins! Read Less

Marylin and I chose this cruise for two main reasons. 1. It left from Station Pier, Melbourne. Just 14 kilometres from home. 2. Someone else was going to cover all the Christmas and New Year cooking, house keeping and entertainment. We have done this cruise a number of times before so no new surprises. One change we made to the usual tours was to hire a car for the day in Wellington. We then spent the day exploring places of the beaten track. (It did help hat I used to Live in Wainuiomata some 50 years ago!) We drove through the Hutt Valley to a place called "Brown Owl" Why? Idano :) We then took a winding mountain road through the Akatarawa Valley to Waikanai and Paekakareki then back to Wellington.. A lovely day out. We took our car GPS which has New Zealand maps loaded so I did not need to rely too much on 50 year old memories.Other ports we just visited to town. The ship was generally great except for temperatures in the public areas. Passengers were wearing padded jackets, sweaters and anything else just to keep comfortable. When this was raised with Customer Services, who had a whole raft of similar complaints, the "Ventilation Officer" said it was because it was cold outside!! Really? HELLO! We are cold inside. Engines make heat. Big engines make a lot of heat, Can we share it around please?, A very uncomfortable trip in that regard. The rest of Golden Princess was its usual great self. Great staff. Great menus. Great entertainment. Even in some quite wild weather, our Captain navigated around the worst of the bad stuff and we had a very comfortable journey, #Marco#Polo# Read Less

The views of milford sound were breathtaking and overall new zealand has a natural beauty and is a stunning place to visit. THE CREW AND STAFF WERE EXEMPLARY IN THEIR HANDLING OF ALL OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND REQUESTS OF THE PASSENGERS And were all very professional in their given fields. Nothing was too big or small to handle and was always done with a smile on their face. The shore excursions were handled, given the enormity of the amount of people on board, like a smooth operation. THE ONLY MISFORTUNE WE HAD WAS MISSING A PORT OF INTEREST - gisborne, due to bad weather, and i think another port should have been chosen or extra time could have been spent at the next port of call which was wellington. The time spent on the golden princess was memorable and my husband and i would not hesitate to sail with them again on our next future adventure in the next couple of years. The cruise was a gift from my daughter and it was our first... It was an amazing journey for both myself and my husband and one we are looking forward to repeating. I now firmly believe this is the only way to have a holiday- it is stress-free, the crew staff are friendly and always have a smile for you. The range of activities they had was open to all and they had something for everyone. The Dining experience was amazing the two crew members that were allocated to our section remembered who we were and greeted us with a smile and they remembered us by name. Our room was wonderful and I fell in love with my bed it was like sleeping on a cloud. The overall service from all crew members could not be faulted as they all had a smile and were quick to help you in any way. The ease of getting to our booked shore excursions was quick and efficient and the knowledge from our tour guides was interesting and offered an insight into the area that you might not have known. So for anyone looking at taking a holiday, this would be the way to go and Princess cruises are definitely the way to go. Read Less
