Spring Break 2023

Review for Discovery Princess to Mexican Riviera

As my friends and I planned our college spring break trip, we knew we wanted to go somewhere warm, drink, eat good food, meet people, and have a good time. Taking a cruise was an obvious choice and the price was right. (4 nights all inclusive Cabo vs. week cruise with Princess Plus). I’ve cruised quite a bit having done NCL, Celebrity, and Carnival; This was my first Princess cruise. I knew it was ...

Amazing experience - how to make someone feel extra special

To be remembered, made my day - totally unexpected. Last week my wife and I boarded the Discovery Princess in LA for a four day cruise with around 3,000 other passengers. A year ago we sailed on the same ship on its maiden voyage for a four day cruise to Vancouver, so we knew the layout of the ship as as we boarded last week we headed straight to one of the restaurants for lunch. We joined the ...

Beautiful Ship, Way Too Crowded

This was my first post covid cruise and was looking for something close to home, The fact that I could drive to the ship and park across the port was great. Check in around 11AM wasn't super smooth with the long lines a precursor to the amount of passengers on board. Cabin: I liked the cabin as a solo, but unsure how two people could cruise in such a small space with tiny balcony. ...

Understaffed and poorly managed.

We chose this cruise because the timing was perfect and were excited about boarding a fairly new ship. This was an 80s themed cruise. They did have a couple of 80s cover bands, we attended Journey and Bon Jovi. Both shows were pretty good. The DJ in the Vista Lounge played quite a few 80s hits as well. We were in a mini-suite and the room itself was very nice. The service, food, and medallion ...

Crowded with slow food service.

Crowded public spaces even during port days.  Had to wait in line to enter dining rooms for dinner, even with a reservation.  Mini-suite cabin was very nice.  Room steward was very helpful. We found the ship to feel very crowded.  From what we could learn the ship was around 90% capacity.  The buffet, during normal dining hours, was very hectic.  The huge long space seemed like a cheap ...

Mini Review Discovery Princess January 21-28, 2023 Mexican Riviera We are Darren and Cindy from Great Falls, Montana. We are in our 50’s and regularly cruise on both Princess and Celebrity. We left Great Falls, Montana on Friday, January 20 in a Blizzard. I am glad the Alaskan Airlines plane took off to Seattle, then a connection to LAX. All was on time. We stayed overnight ...

We’ve had better

Thanks to my friends, we got a good deal on a cruise of the Mexican Riviera. It’s a nice ship, but I have to question some of the design choices. For example, there are very few common areas beneath the pool deck where you can actually see the ocean. The Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway restaurants were surprisingly dark, with walls or heavy curtains blocking ocean views. I contrast that with recent ...

We tend to be Princess Cruisers. I like the Mexican Riviera because it's warm and Friendly. We travel from SLC so getting to the LA port is not a big issue. The Discovery is a new ship and was fun to sail on. Embarking was quick and easy. We dropped off our carry-on in the room which was not quite ready, but accessible. There was the normal Buffet and midship entertainment to welcome people. ...

Our 11th Princess Cruise, not up to Par

Review for Discovery Princess to Mexican Riviera

This is our 11th Princess Cruise. Discovery Princess is a new ship, it's physically lovely overall, even with some cost saving architecture. Dining has been a challenge. The food quality has been poor. Bland, lessor quality cuts of meat, shrimp cocktail has shriveled into a sad little dish. Some of the dining rooms have some square tables that are too large, creating a cramped environment. ...

My wife and I previously travelled on the Discovery Princess to Alaska in October 2022, and found the vacation to be especially enjoyable - See review "Exceeded All My Expectations", so we decided to sail again this time on a Mexico itinerary in January of 2023. We again booked the same S4 suite R616 and saw many of the same faces on board. The ship sailed with 3308 passengers which was ...
