What a great first cruise.

Review for Viking Einar to Europe - River Cruise

This was our first cruise ever, and we had a blast. We had arranged an extension trip beforehand, so we flew into Zürich where a Viking driver awaited to take us to Lucerne. We spent two nights in that beautiful city (in the same hotel where Mark Twain once stayed) and were guided by our excellent guide Katarina. We were then driven on a Viking bus to Basel and boarded the Einar. We stopped at ...

First, but not our last, cruise with Viking

The first reason that we were attracted to this cruise was the inclusion of admission to the Passion Play in Oberammergau, which had been delayed two years by the pandemic. As it only takes place every 10 years we decided that, at our ages, to wait could be risky. The second reason was that, despite being avid ocean cruisers, we had never taken a river cruise, nor had we been in that part of ...

I choose the Viking by accident but it was the best trip of my life. It values your money over and beyond. Everything and everyone were first class The cabins get cleans couple of times every day. The food is exceptional, the flowers on your breakfast table is different from lunch and diner they go to the smallest details for everything. The coffee and tea station always refresh and clean ...

Disorganized. Not for the experienced traveler.

We took the pre-trip to Como. IT was wonderful, great Tour Director Sam and wonderful tour guide. While there were some expected-unexpected situations, the tour director handled them efficiently and took care of the customers. Moreover, his narrative between Como and Basel was incredibly informative. Bravo Sam! Once we reached the main part of our trip on the ship in Basel, we ...

Disappointed Traveler

First let me say, there are some things Viking does well and other things, as we've learned on this cruise, can be disappointing. This was a last minute deal that was too good to pass up although in hindsight, maybe we should have waited. Cruising during the summer in Europe is something we normally avoid and given all the airline problems, this would have been.a good year to not make an ...

We chose Viking because it looked like our type of cruise, not too upscale but not too basic. Well, we were pleasantly surprised to find it was upscale and absolutely top notch. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly. The food was delicious and plentiful. Our room was gorgeous, we had a suite but we met people we had veranda rooms and we would have been just as happy there. When ...

We wanted to experience a river cruise and introduce our adult children and their spouses to the same. The vessel was excellent as was the service and the itinerary. The food was fabulous and the nightly entertainment was pleasant and a great environment to socialize. English language skills for the entire crew was excellent and they were all very personable. Our only minor complaint was the ...

The Rhine is wonderful, as is the on-board experience

I was pleasantly surprised that the Rhine was less industrial than I was expecting (having been on the Rhone and the Danube, both of which were scarred by some heavily industrial portions). I also liked the option of a leisurely excursion group. I didn't feel like we saw less but that we saw things more in depth. Instead of moving at top speed from site to site, we seemed to linger more, learn ...

Having been on the Danube and the Douro, we (my husband and I) were keen to travel on another European river. The Rhine is a "busy" river so plenty to watch. And the scenery so varied - starting in the flat Netherlands, going past the Lorelei and the castles on steep hillsides, through narrow gorges, then a somewhat industrial area with factories, silos, chimneys etc, and then to wooded areas ...

Fun filled trip

Had sailed with Viking in the past and wanted to cruse the Rhine. Having been station in Germany while in the Army we wanted to revisit sites from the past. Well worth the cost! Trip started rough when the airline lost my bag but upon arrival on board the Viking staff took charge of locating my bag and getting it to the ship. It took several days but Viking did my laundry for free and kept my ...
