This was a family cruise picked because the dates and ports were of the most interest to the majority of the group. The ship was a good size, easy to get around in and offering a good opportunity to get to know most of the crew and passengers. The crew was exceptional, from the housekeeping, to the beverage and dinning crew and the entertainment group (special kudos to Heather and Eion ). The cabins were comfortable and the bathrooms a good size. The planetarium and the Nordic Spa (with its steam sauna and snow room) were a unique and pleasant experience. All of us enjoyed the lectures offered, the nordic museum, and the common areas. Was somewhat disappointed with the food on the Chefs Table and Manfred's specialty restaurants and would not rate any of the excursions ( the included ones and some of the optional ones) more then mediocre. We chose Viking because we had enjoyed a river cruise with them before, so we hoped/assumed the ocean cruise would also be great. It was... except for the low quality of the included wine served with dinner and more importantly, the shore excursion experience. The service, facilities, and food was wonderful. The included beers were very good, and the exercise rooms even tempted me into working out. The included wine was the cheap Chilean wine Fontera, which we have in stores at home for about $6 per bottle. Instead of serving us delicious and inexpensive Spanish wines in Spain, French wines in France, and Italian wines in Italy, like we had on the river cruise, we had the boring and bland imported wine- quite a disappointment. When we attended excursions we found that having 40 people in the groups, with very broad ability levels, made for a super crowded and stressful experience. We would end up so stretched out as a group that we couldn't see what the guide was describing, and at some points we were so far away that the audio cut out, too. If we go on one of these again we will book our own hop on hop off tours and actually see some sites instead of missing out on the wonders of the places we visited. The included tours are nearly worthless. The last complaint is customer service after the cruise. I have contacted Viking twice with these concerns but have yet to receive a response. My interest is to help them improve, and make the cruise attractive to me and others in the future. As it is, the ocean cruise does not deserve my attention. Read Less

Only supposed to be 1 night at sea but due to weather we had 2 consecutive days and could not go outside. Ship could not visit Gdańsk. Been with Viking river cruises before And delighted with professionalism of the staff. Visited places we wanted Togo Outstanding staff and food with a variety of restaurants to choose from. Our favourite was the world cafe. No rigid seating in any restaurant and plenty of tables for two.the drinks flowed at dinner and lunch too. Beautiful floating palaces. The evening entertainment was of a high standard and varied.matthew singing during the evening in the explorer lounge was excellent too. The enhancement programme was rather high brow for our tastes, however. Excursions were well arranged with no queuing to get on and off. Included excursions were orientation tours of each city. There was a large variety of additional excursions but we considered these expensive and only did ones in St Petersburg. Viking is an outstanding company but you do need to be aware that customers are predominantly Americans. Read Less

We chose the cruise for several reasons: husband's ancestors are Finnish, had never been to the Scandinavian or the Baltic countries, and friends' recommendation. We found the excursions to be excellent, and we learned a great deal about the Viking culture and heritage. Specifically the excursions in Norway, St. Petersburg, Aalborg, Gdansk, and Tallin gave us insight in to the culture, heritage and history. The Bergen Railway to Oslo was a scenic delight and gave us a better idea of Norway's beauty. Our first dinner experience in the restaurant was unfavorable. The tables are too close together as the couple sitting next to the four of us appeared to be listening to our conversation. The waiter assigned to us was inept and provided very poor service. We had to ask for water and wine glasses to be refilled We asked for two appetizers, he questioned the fact that we asked for two and acted as though that was not allowed. He made no recommendation for menu choices. We asked questions about several entrees and he wasn unable to describe a particular dish. The Chef's Table and Manfreddi's had excellent food and service. We were very impressed. Read Less

Several of the included tours ended up being on a bus for 90% or more of the time without stops that would have allowed a chance for photos or viewing sites we were passing. While about a third of the evening shows were excellent. Others were duds. Choreography appropriate to the Lawrence Welk Show that was inappropriate for the music being performed. An Evening with the Beatles was a good example and the music from the 50s,60s and 70s was another example of contrived choreography. Another problem with evening shows was the avoidable. We had to leave one performance because a person or persons near us were wearing heavy perfume that made breathing difficult. It's past time that some type of "no scents" policy should be implemented. On the positive side, the cabin was excellent as was the steward. The dining room experience was outstanding. The food was great and the attention to my wife's dietary needs was superb. Read Less

We chose this cruise because our friends were going. The itinerary was through the British Isles. I really liked Norway and many of the stops in Scotland were nice. Britain and Ireland were great as well. Could’ve used one or two less stops in Scotland as many were simply fishing villages on a little island. Would rather have stayed in one of the cities such as Edinburgh longer. Some of the included tours got to be a bit dull as all we did was ride around on a bus and things were pointed out to us. Would’ve liked to have covered less distance and done more walking. The service and the food was outstanding. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful. Could maybe have used a little more activity at night. The booking of excursions was somewhat annoying as each level of cabin got to book their excursions on different days so the day we were able to book our excursions was crazy and hard to get online. Would like to have had more options for tours. Perhaps a few more active ones. Overall I would definitely do another Viking tour. Read Less

I reserve one star because the ship lost power to one propeller and we missed two ports of call because of the time it took for repairs. On the other hand I liked everything else about the cruise.the ship, our cabin, dining, entertainment and especially the service and shore excursions were excellent. Dining was excellent.and dining service was excellent also. The food was wonderful with many choices at every meal. I really enjoyed shared tables at dinner because it allowed us to meet many fellow cruisers. The conversation was diverse and a great deal of fun. The spa was a wonderful way to relax and the exercise room was a great place to use some energy on sea days. The cabins were beautifully designed so that all belongings could be tucked away and luggage stored so I felt really at home. Even the bathrooms had shelves and spaces so I was able to stow all my personal items. The cruise was the Into the Midnight Sun. Norway was beautiful and the excursions offered the ability to sample many aspects of Norwegian life. There were several more excursions I would have taken if we had had more time. I just might have to do this cruise again. Iam excited about doing another ocean cruise with Viking. Read Less

I just noticed that the top of this review it says 7 Night Journey to Antiquities. That is not what was sold to us by Viking. We bought a 14 day cruise called Mediterranean Antiquities Cruise. More about that later in my review. We chose this cruise because we had been looking for a cruise that stayed overnight in Rome and Viking sent us an email about this cruise and it was exactly what we were looking for. This cruise left Athens, Greece and ended in Barcelona, Spain with stops in Athens, Crete, Katakolon, Greece then over to Italy with stops in Sicily, Naples, Rome, Florence, a stop in Monte Carlo, onto France with stops in Marseille and Sete and finally arriving in Barcelona, Spain. So far so good. We also booked the two day pre cruise in Athens. Arrived in Athens and as with Viking someone was waiting there to take us to our hotel. Viking was amazing. They made registering at the hotel a breeze and then Viking staff was very helpful with tips on tours and restaurants. When it was time to board the ship, again Viking did an excellant job. Picked us up at the hotel and drove us to the port and checking into the boat was again a breeze. Being it was the Jupiter's maiden voyage we were able to get into our rooms right away. Room Steward Fiery was amazing. Anything and everything you needed he made it happen. The ship was beautiful. Since we had cruised earlier in August 2018 on the Sky we remembered pretty much where everything was. On our last cruise I did not have the opportunity to try Tea in the Wintergarden but this time the opportunity came up and we went to Tea. I am not a big tea drinking but you must try Tea at least once. The Tea as so good. The use loose tea not bags and it makes such a difference and the scones served with cream and jam were to die for. The newest item on the Jupiter was the planetarium which unfortunately Viking did not utilize to the fullest. We had an astronomer on board you would have thought that he would have given some lectures or shows in the planetarium. Nope. The two shows that we watched in the planetarium were something you could have watched on Natural Geographic. The seats in the planetarium did not recline so you could not see the entire ceiling so you could not see the entire film. Both times I was in there people were falling asleep it was so bad. Viking really needs to rethink the use of the planetarium. Such great potential not being used. We were also disappointed in the entertainment. On our cruise In To The Midnight Sun on the Sky in August of 2018 the Viking Band with Vince and Jennifer were amazing. They were always playing somewhere. We so enjoyed listening to them and the singers in the production shows .were so good and they too would be always performing somewhere on the ship. We were so looking forward to hearing the same type and quality of music on the Jupiter. Our first night we waited with anticipation to hear the Viking Band in Troshaven. We were the first one in Troshaven and when the band and the singer started we just looked at each other and went HUH! The band acted like they did not want to be there and the singer could not carry a beat and we could not understand her. So disappointed we left after 10 minutes. You never heard or saw the Viking Band unless it was in Troshaven or during a production in the Star Theater. If there was music on the ship it was a string quartet or piano. Nothing upbeat. The performers for the theater productions was also disappointing after being on the Sky. It was like watching a "high school production". The entertainment on the Jupiter was very disappointing. Ok now for the part that Viking did to us and approximately 100 other passengers. They sold us a 14 day cruise and once we got on the boat we found out it was actually two 7 days cruises back to back. Ok you think no big deal right............wrong! The first 7 days of our 14 day cruise ended in Rome. 800 passengers got off and 800 new passengers got on and what did they offer the 100 passengers that we on the boat still.....NOTHING! There was no port talk for Rome like they do for all other ports they stop in. There was an including tour offered for Rome where they drove you into Rome showed you some of the sights (by bus no stops) and then dropped you at Vatican City for 5 hours of free time! WHAT! The reason we booked this cruise was to be able to see Rome. The reason we book with Viking is so they will escort me with a guide around Rome. I don't want to have to do the leg work to find the tours and organize everything. Again that is why I book with Viking. Every other port you go to they offer at least a dozen different tours you can select from. Not for us and not in Rome! We were very disappointed in Viking. We spoke with several of the other 100 passengers that had been sold this "14 day" cruise and they too were not happy. We ended up staying on the boat and even then we felt like we were under everyone's feet because they were trying to get everything on the ship ready for the new passengers. So ok Rome was a bust! Then think about it on a 14 day cruise you have 14 days of different entertainment and lectures. Hmmmmmm not on back to back 7's so on the second week of our cruise all the production shows were repeated and they were not good enough the first time to go see them again and only a couple of new lectures. We are still working with Viking to figure out why and how this happened. I guess the old saying "buyer beware" should be applied here. Unfortunately by the time we found out what was happening we had already booked and paid for the cruise. All and all the Staff onboard the ship were amazing! The ship itself is amazing. Viking Marketing and Office Management not so much. Read Less
