We had cruised on the Grand Celebration before the hurricane hit Freeport, having had a great time on that ship, so the next time in Florida we thought to check out the Grand Classica going to Nassau. The first time I took the Celebration, I was pleasantly surprised because truthfully, I had very low expectations to start but was very impressed by the experience. This time, however, my expectations were higher and so I ended up a bit disappointed as it did not live up to that original cruise. Embarkation was swift and painless and we were on the ship quickly. I found our ship to have very few passengers on board- which I thought would be awesome because I had servers everywhere being helpful. It turned out to be really disappointing because there was no action- there were bars and lounges completely empty in many parts of the ship, the huge dining rooms were very empty as well which was kind of creepy. Every cruise I've been before this one was packed and the crowds get annoying at times, but I think I prefer that to a relatively empty ship. Once on board, I found I was not a fan of the ship's layout. The sun deck had no live entertainment and only 2 bars, one quietly tucked into the side and the other in the back of the ship which was annoying to access. Servers were all over the place presumably to make up for the lack of bar areas to hang out. The main lounge was in the middle of the ship, with some neat looking lounges tucked into some fairly hard to reach areas elsewhere. I suspect a number of people missed these places entirely for that reason, some better signage would help. The cabin was huge relative to any other stateroom I have had before, and while cabins aren't a huge priority for me, not being jammed into a room like sardines like other cruises I've been on is something I appreciated. The room was big enough it would have almost qualified as a jr. suite on some other ships, minus the balcony of course. It was updated and well appointed. The only downside is there are only 10 balcony rooms on the entire ship, which are all suites. The food was OK to good, the buffet was adequate and the main dining hall was good quality. We dined at the Admiral's Club one night as well and it was superior dining in almost every way, which it should have been. What is interesting is that nearly everyone of our group of 6 commented that the dinner's appetizer and dessert was outstanding but the main courses were disappointing. It should be noted 2 of our group had steak overcooked, a big no-no if you are going to upcharge for it. The chefs working there should know how to properly cook a steak. The entertainment was very good when it was available. I suspect the lack of passengers resulted in not having as many entertainment options, and that is a shame, I thought who they did have was great. There was still plenty to do on this trip, but compared to the Grand Celebration cruise we took which was much fuller at the time, not even close in entertainment, both in quality and quantity. The service was awesome, best service I've had on any cruise, again, largely due to lack of passengers. Crew everywhere, everyone helpful and friendly, ready to assist with just about anything, just a joy to be around. This is an advantage of having a relatively empty ship I guess, but I took advantage and enjoyed talking to many of the crew, who had time to chat a lot of the time. The shore excursions were very good and the port of Nassau is fine. The ship heavily promoted the Blue Lagoon, which was a fun excursion. Lots to see and do there, an island with a very nice protected beach including encounters with dolphins, sea lions, stingrays, etc. We just hung out at the beach but the whole excursion was well worth the cost. The return home included some very rough seas but it was handled beautifully. Overall, the lack of passengers and quirky layout of the ship dampened the overall experience, but it was still a good one. I still think it's a great value and will definitely consider returning when I come back to Florida and want to spend a couple days at sea. Read Less

My wife and I choose this short cruise to Freeport, The Bahamas for this annual Christmas getaway. We were not looking for fancy or extravagant - just a quick getaway. It's a two night cruise. The ships are somewhat older, having been purchased from another cruise line and then refurbished. You are not going to get the glitz of the more established cruise lines. BOARDING AND DISEMBARKATION: The only parking I saw approaching the terminal was valet parking at $19/day. Boarding went smoothly. The only interesting note was that we were told we could not take our weekender bags onboard with us - they had to be delivered as the crew did not want suitcases in the dining area which was open. Of course, we went to eat lunch and promptly saw people rolling their luggage through the dining area. Disembarking was more "interesting". As we had a suite, we were supposed to have a priority exiting the boat. When we arrived at the designated area, we found a large crowd formed into three lines with little direction from the crew. Once the signal to leave was given, it was every person for themself as all three lines attempted to converge into one line. So, I was happy I had not purchased the priority boarding/disembarkation package. ROOM: We had a suite. There are 10 suites on board - 5 to port and 5 to starboard. The room itself is decorated in dark wood paneling and is rather dark until you turn on the lights. The seating area is separate from the bedroom by virtue of two sliding doors. The bed and sofa were both comfortable but low to the ground. In addition to the sofa, there are a couple of hard wooden chairs. The TV only had about 7-8 channels. The balcony was reasonably sized and comfortable. The bathroom was nicely laid out. FOOD: The buffet food was neither great nor poor - its buffet food. The first night we ate in the steak house and the food was outstanding. Our waiter, Milan, was very attentive. The second night we ate in the main dining cabin and the food was very good there. ON BOARD SHOPPING: The duty free for cigarettes, cigars and liquor was well stocked. The jewelry and watch shop was less well stocked with a very small selection of Invicta watches, a larger display of Seiko watches and a modest display of jewelry. The general store stocked items which you would typically find ashore during the excursions. ENTERTAINMENT: There was a tribute to Motown the first night which featured a talented group of entertainers singing and dancing various Motown hits. The second evening we attend a Tina Turner tribute showcasing a young lady who had a awesome voice and was good at getting the audience into her show. The adult comedy show ranged from corny to funny (I'm glad I had not paid extra to see this guy - I would have been annoyed). I should note that seating in all of the entertainment areas was very comfortable. All in all, if you are looking for a quick and inexpensive getaway to Freeport, this is an excellent value but you need to remember that this is not the Queen Mary. The food is good, the accommodations are comfortable and all of the crew members try very hard to make sure you have a pleasant experience. With that caveat, I could recommend this cruise line to friends. Having been to Freeport two years in a row, I doubt I would do this cruise again but note that this is more due to my familiarity with Freeport rather than dissatisfaction with this cruise ship. We booked this cruise through a travel agency group at a great deal of $79 dollars per person. We thought that was a great deal so we jumped on it. It was ok really and for a test cruise which is what we used it for, to see if we could do a bigger cruise, it in itself was ok. But, the food was not so great. The better food was an up charge of course. Everything cost extra on the boat. Not much for kids to do there. A pool so small that I thought it was the hot tub at first. My son got to play ping pong on one of the two tables there one time before it was taken over by a large pack of 20 something kids that were rude and unruly. We saw a room where kids were playing video games, my son is 9 and asked if he could play but was told no because the games were for 13 to 17 year olds. I said why not shut the door then so other kids can’t see it? The smell of marijuana covered the entire ship pretty much anytime we left our room. I asked a staff member if anything could be done about it, but was told that he did not see a problem with it. My husband is a truck driver and is drug tested regularly, there was definitely a problem with it. We did an excursion to the Grand Lucayan resort, that was the best part of the whole cruise. The resort was beautiful! We had an issue with the on board cruise bucks where they closed our account which took an hour to resolve because of the language barriers between the me and the staff member at guest service desk. All in all, we made a good time out of it given what we had to work with. I will definitely not be back on the Grand Classica. Here’s to hoping our next cruise is better!! Read Less

Please read the entire review, ignoring my age my what i say is entirely true. I choose this cruise because I and my family found a discount on Groupon for it. The overall price was about $800 for my parents and my sister. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. The ship was tiny. The pool is so small that at first, I thought it was a hot tub. There isn't much stuff for people under 18 to do. I am 12 years old, and when my family was away, I had to stay at a kids club. It was horrible. The ages are 3-6, 7-12, 13-17. I couldn't go to the 13-17 club because they were mostly 17, and the 7-12 club was mostly 7-year-olds! It was such a depressing time. The room was so cramped. When I went, all I did was blow a balloon, draw a face on it, and pop it, watch a movie and that's it. I hated it. I made sure I didn't go back there. Also, the cabins were okay. They were pretty small on the most part and the ocean view was very tiny. My suitcase was bigger than the window. The bathroom was also okay. Very small. The shower was so small, that all you had room for was yourself and a washcloth, which I guess it the purpose. Also, DO NOT BE FOOLED by the squares you get in a package that says "deodorant." its actual soap. The soap dispenser in the actual shower is shampoo. Dining could've been better. All the food tasted bland, except for taco night. The rest tasted like old chewing gum. I would suggest dining at the Yellow Elder if you want some quality food. Entertainment is mostly reserved for adults and the service is awful. The only thing that was on the menu for room service was a Turkey Sandwich. Seriously?? Excursions were too expensive for the product. I went to Lucaya beach in the Bahamas and that was fun. There was a pool on a cliff right next to the beach and a DJ. The marketplace in the Bahamas was confusing. Many people had the same products at different prices. When you start walking away, they start lowering the prices, begging you to come back. Make sure to get what your money is worth. I don't plan on coming back at all. That's all I have to say. Peace out. Read Less

We have been on the Bahama Paradise cruise ship several times and wanted to try the newly arrived Grand Classica ship to see if we liked it better. Living in Florida and only twenty minutes from the port, makes this an ideal short time getaway. Our outside cabin was a good size, with a nice size bathroom. The sitting areas around the ship were comfortable and plentiful. Unfortunately, except for breakfast, the choice of food on the diner menu was awful. Everything was either blackened. jerked, cajun or sauced. We had the same problem on their other ship and were hoping for more edible food on this one. I would have liked to see a plain piece of roasted chicken or fish for those of us not able or not into spice, spice and more spice. The entertainment was fine, the service and crew were excellent. Very welcoming and pleasant. The casino was large and smoke free, which we appreciated. They could have added a great many more slot machines in the room they had. The port was a waste of time. This port offers nothing. No reason to leave the ship! We traveled with several friends, and therefore had an enjoyable time. We would go again mainly because of the convenience, but we will bring sandwiches for dinner.0 Read Less

We (I am a single female and went with my married female friend) chose this cruise because it was BOGO...and all inclusive but it isn't. I was disappointed about this at first. But that's marketing for you. You pay for drinks, housekeeping, tips, some shows, upgrade on restaurants...but it was a blast and well worth the money we spent! We met so many nice people. I look forward to going again. I'm saving for next year and would like to make it a little longer cruise. I'm hooked!! Staff and cruisers were great...only had one sleepless night... many drunk passengers coming in late at night that were loud in the hall outside our door..I didn't notice the first night ...too drunk... They really push the alcoholic drinks ...I understand ... but it's not healthy! More self control next time on my part and more fun too!! I loved the excursion to Wyndham...went on a double decker bus...included all drinks...lunch...sailing, scuba diving, snorkling, kyaking, pool and activities, jet skies and more! LOVED IT!! Read Less

Only good thing on this cruise was the dancers and singers. I loved watching the curly haired dancer, she is by far the best , and it shows. Costumese looked great. The solo boy dancer amazing as well. Not all the dancers knew what they were doing it looked like. Magician wasn’t that impressive to me. Overall entertainment was the best thing on this cruise. The cruise was dirty and wifi didn’t work. Buffet didn’t stay open long enough.. Casino drains you and only ATM does not work. Ice machine was broken and lots of wet floor. Food was average. Very casual party cruise. Fun games and activities on board. Computers didn’t work at all which was strange since there were so many of them. Cheap party booze drinking ship. Good for first time cruisers. Would not go back until everything works properly. I hope this review helps future cruisers. Read Less
