I recently sailed on the Carnival Sensation from 07/07/18 - 07/12/18. Upon boarding the ship there was a very strong sewage smell. We initially thought it was the ship emptying their tanks, however as the cruise progressed the smell continued. At that time I chose to not let it affect my vacation, while annoying I wanted to have fun. My cousin was getting married on the ship. On day 3 my husband and I realized we were showing in brown water. I immediately stood in line at Guest Services. I was offered an apology and a plumber promptly came to our room to resolve. He ran the water and it was clear for one minute, then turned brown again. I went back down to guest services where I was offered a steak/lobster dinner for my troubles. I said I was not satisfied with that, that I wanted a credit. I was told an investigation would be opened and someone would get back to me. On the next day, no one got back to me so I stopped at guest services and was told a plumber would be to my room, someone came again and said it was all fixed. But while he was standing in our bathroom we filled the tub and my husband asked him if he would shower in that, he said no sir and said he would let Guest Services know. At this point I went down to Guest Services again and was told I needed to speak with Connie. After another visit to Guest Services (4th time now), Connie and I talked, she offered me $150 credit (I paid over $4,200) for this cruise and she would reimburse me for $100 of charges already on my room. I was told this was the most they could offer from on the ship. I said no ma'am that wasn't good enough. It was a slap in the face for Carnival to tell me they couldn't fix the problem and Connie's response to me is that "Corporate was being stingy with offering any credits on this cruise despite the sewage leak". So it was confirmed there was a sewage leak and I was showering in brown water. How did I know that I was not showering in sewage? I don't!! And I wish I would have thought to take a sample. On Day 4 after 5 visits to Guest Services we finally saw Carol-Anne or Carol-Lee, I can't remember her full name. Carol saw the discoloration in the water and immediately apologized, offered an onboard credit of $150 per person and 25% off our next cruise. My husband promptly told her that given the lack of customer care we were provided with and the fact that Carnival was finding it acceptable that we showered and brushed our teeth in brown water, we would never been returning. As a side note, as soon as we discovered the brown water, we were all forced to brush our teeth with bottled water. I told Carol I would settle for nothing less that half our cruise fare returned to us. In the end we received $900, to which I indicated to Carol that was not enough and she said that is all she could offer on the ship. Remember earlier that I was told I could only be offered a total of $250, but now I am being given $900. Carol told me to contact Corporate when I got off the ship. I have since called Corporate, sent a message on facebook and an email. Today I received a return call from Vanessa, she was professional as she could be, but told me she didn't have a manager that I could speak with, that I was speaking with the person that she needed to speak to. She refused to provide me a Manager's name to speak with. This is terrible customer service. When someone asks to speak with your manager, you provide your manager's name. After filing this complaint, I will be contacting the EPA and Department of Health. Carnival you have failed me in the respect that you find it completely acceptable to allow your guests to spend 5 days with a sewage leak on your ship that could have potentially contaminated your water supply. I am requesting a refund of $2,100 which was half my cruise fare. Read Less

This is my third cruise, the second with my family. After being on all three line, royal Caribbean, norwegian, and then carnival, I have come to enjoy cruise vacations for their service, food, activities and amentities. For the past five days, guests aboard the carnival sensation were trapped in what I would call a torture vessel due to a ruptured septic system. While i am giving this cruise a poor rating, I will admit what i believe to be the good parts of this vacation For starters, Orlando our cruise director was charasmatic, energetic, and overall a superb cruise director. In my past cruises, i paid no attention to the cruise directors, however Orlando was successful in creating a fun enviornment for guests of all ages. I tip my hat to him for doing his job the best he could with the situation on the ship. The activities were ok, not great. The comedians gave us some laughs, but dont expect your sides to split. The shows had some very talented singers as well. At port, the towns were a lot of fun. We went to Nassau, Half Moon Cay, then Grand Turk. One major thing that annoyed me was the guy who ran the bingo games. He was severely annoying to the point that made my bingo experience tragic. The food did not blow me away, but it did not make me sick like my past two cruises have. So I cant be upset with that. I will approve of the quality of the food, diversity of options and quantity available throughout the nights. Guys burger bar was delicious but i do have to complain about the service I noticed. There is a menu next to the line with various choices of burgers. Any time I would ask them to make me one, I was ordered by the staff behind the counter to go to the self service bar and make it myself. What I find so ridiculous is that they have these toppings behind the counter in front of them. God forbid they put a slice of tomato on my burger when I ask, perhaps the ship may have sank. I did not eat at the blue iguana, however my family gave it good reviews. As for the restaurants, there was never a long wait for lines, and there were always interesting choices. Service was good and it was fun to watch them dance. Now it is time for my real critiques of this boat. Id like to start off by acknowledging the rancid smell of feces and gas that was present throughout the whole ship. When I first walked into my room, it was as if Mike Tyson had punched me in the face with a dirty sewage rag. My poor parents had to fight for their lives in order to make it to guest services to complain about it as the smell only got worse as you made your way through the boat. Thankfully, guest services were recpetive to our complaints and had reimbursed us some money. In the past three trips i’ve been on, i’ve never been subject to such a stench because of the carelessness of ship management. I feel bad for the next group of people who stay on that boat. Be prepared with industrial amounts of febreeze, gas masks, and a hazmat suit for good measure The overall cleanliness of the boat was about the same of your county jail. Stained sheets, dirty glass and silverware, you name it. I noticed the grime on the walls of my room, and on the last day we noticed someone blew their nose into the curtain of our room. The sinks were slightly rusted, but nothing to serious. The floor of our bathroom was caving in, i probably could have fell right through if the boat hit a big wave while I was in the shower. All in all, my family and I had a good time. The reason being is because we kept making jokes about how bad the amentities were on the boat. I suggest you take a cruise in a row boat to Nassau rather than the sensation because you will not be subject to the smell of pure anus. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the reasonable price, and we knew that the ship was a bit outdated, but that didn't deter us. We loved all of the activities that were going on,and there was always a good selection of things to do. Our favorite person on the ship was Phillip aka "Sassy"! He was working the Trivia, and I absolutely love how infectious his personality was, and he is such a sweetheart! Our Cruise Director was Orlando, and he was really funny, and was good at keeping people laughing! Deon was great, and boy, that guy can sing! I loved what he says "Always give a little piece of your heart to everyone you meet". Between Phillip, Orlando, and Deon, they all made our first carnival cruise SENSATIONAL! There was a good selection of food, I thought the food at the Dining Centers were good, but the Lido Deck (Seaview Buffet) was kind of hit and miss. I liked the Blue Iguana Restaurant the best. All of the shows were fantastic! If you get a chance, become a VIP at the 70's show, it's so fun and well worth it! You'll get to go on stage and dance, and get to meet the cast at VIP Party the next night! Read Less

I wanted to have one last huge vacation with my kids as my oldest heads off to college in the fall. A cruise to the Carribean sounded fun as we all like the beach, and it was an area we hadn't been, and further, my girls had never been out of the country. We booked this through a travel agent, so all those details were taken care of through someone else. I did a lot of research on the ports and the ship itself once I got my itenerary so I would be able to make good decisions on excursions, etc. I wound up throwing it all out the window and going with what I found on here and with some information gathered out of Trip Advisor. The excursions listed through Carnival and my travel company were horrifically expensive, and as I'm working on my teacher's salary and my income tax refund, I was trying to stick to a budget. The embarkation was.....interesting. I purchased transportation from the airport to the dock, and apparently they were backed up. Some people complained they had been there since 8am (it was around 11:30 or so when we got off our flight) and the man from Carnival directing it was rude. Told us all to come on, so all 35 of us started to move, he then told over half of us to go back and sit down. He then took the people that had just walked up forcing the people that had been waiting for hours to keep waiting. It was a little like a circus. Or carnival? Once actually on the ship, it wasn't bad. We had to wait around until close to 3 to actually get into our room. Our room was better than I expected. Very clean, roomier than I expected, beds were great. Only one outlet though, and the shower temperatures were set in Celcius so that took some getting used to. The dining room was excellent. The wait staff was beyond reproach. The food was really good, although sometimes the selections were not to our liking. It didn't matter, because we could always go grab something later elsewhere. We never saw our housekeeping staff, so as far as gratuities there, the minimum was all I'd give. I wish I could've given more to the wait staff. I traveled with a 12 year old and an 18 year old. My 12 year old had a blast with Circle C club, the pool, slides, and goofy golf. My oldest? Absolutely nothing for her to do. Too old for the kids clubs, too young for all the other stuff, plus I don't gamble, and am not a big drinker. She got bored really quick. We're not into shopping either. You couldn't always hear the daily announcements, so we missed a lot of things. The daily guides can be hard to follow since they don't really tell you how long things last, you kind of have to guess. You have to be prepared to WALK. Most of these ports are a LOOOOOOONG way from the ship. And the elevators have their own agenda, so you take the stairs a lot. Nassau was one port that was about a good 5 or more minute walk from the ship. Look for the free bus at the dock!!! It will take you to town and back. Where I was most disappointed was in the 'hidden language' that wasn't explained clearly by either Carnival, or my travel agent. You won't really need much spending money (cash) on you for this. Some for the ports for gifts and whatnot, or food/drinks, but there is absolutely NO cash on the boat. Your ship & sail card is your cash. It works like a credit card. Everything on the ship- food, soda, alcohol, Bingo tickets, purchases in the stores, everything, gets put on the ship and sail card. At the end of the trip they cash out your purchases onto whatever credit card you gave them at the beginning. This was not properly, nor clearly explained to me beforehand, so I thought that I would only pay for our souvenirs off the boat and the mandatory gratuities. Nope. $330 later.......which included the mandatory gratuity, three coffees, three purchases from the Cherry on Top store, two runs in the arcade (that doesn't even take coins!!!) and a trip to the medical center for aloe which didn't clear TSA like we were told it would, I was frantically transferring money on the day we returned to Miami. Half Moon Cay is owned by Carnival, so they only take your ship and sail card there as well. Didn't know that either. Disembarkation was pretty smooth. They apparently changed their process, and were calling individual floors down, and you could put your bags out the night before to be checked, or get numbered tags if you want your bags checked. But everyone kind of went together so I'm not sure how this saved time. Perhaps someone who has been cruising for years could weigh in. I might cruise again. Maybe with another adult. I'd like to try a bigger ship next time. It was fun, an experience, glad I did it and especially glad I did it when my kids were old enough to appreciate it. Read Less

Let me start by saying we picked this trip for our Anniversary based on the cost to get away for a few days as we have a trip to Europe planned next month. We flew into Miami the morning of departure, which I do not recommend. Due to weather up north, we weren't sure we would get out. We ended up getting out fine. Took a Lyft from Miami Airport to the cruise terminal. Definitely do this as it's the cheapest option (approx. $18 each way). Embarkation were extremely smooth. We were on the boat within 15 mins of arriving! They now have portable kiosks setup and the Carnival Representative just scans your boarding pass and passport. As easy as that! The sail and sign cards are available in your room mailbox when you arrive. I thought at first this was a safety concern, but they stress if the envelope has been tampered with, go to guest services and they'll take care of everything. As the rooms were not available until 1:30 PM, your printed boarding pass acts as your sail and sign card and already has your unlimited drinks package added to it! We reserved a porthole room on the 7th deck towards the front. As this is an older ship, you can feel the movement a bit more, but I would definitely recommend a room at the very front or very back as the hallways tend to be a bit noisy. Our room steward, Dewa was great! He knocked on our door to talk as we were getting settled in and had us fill out a survey for when we wanted our room done up. This was very new to me as I was used to having the room made up in the morning or evening. You CAN select both. As I know how hard these stewards work, I elected for AM only to make his job a bit easier. We brought a bottle of champagne from our honeymoon to drink on our anniversary and Dewa made sure he put it in a bucket of ice for us so it was chilled. He also presented us with a gift card to the spa to use. I know this was from Carnival, but he had a nice written note to accompany it. The food was pretty good most nights. I opted for the $20 upgrade to the surf and turf on the last night, which was worth it. Our waiter, I Made, was fantastic. The entertainment was meh. We did not enjoy the singing/dancing on the first night, so we skipped it the rest of the cruise and opted for the comedy club, which was pretty good most nights. Some nights bombed, others were hilarious. Roland, the guitar player in the atrium was the highlight. He was fantastic. We loved sitting at the bar and listening to him. The bartenders were great for the most part. Tamara in the atrium bar and Budimir in the casino were highlights. Top notch service and they were extremely personable. Can't say enough about the Cruise Director and his staff. This was my 14th cruise and Orlando was one of the best. Deion was a fantastic addition to his staff and always had us cracking up. While we did have a hiccup with one of the casino dealers one night, we got an apology from the pit boss the next day and we were there every night. Most dealers just wanted everyone to have fun! Al Glenn, Marcos, and Errol deserve special recognition here. As for the ports, Nassau was great just to talk around. We did some research and went to Pirate Republic Brewing, which I can't recommend enough. Only craft brewery in the Bahamas. Beer was great and staff was friendly. After, we walked around the straw market (didn't get harassed as much as we thought we would). We really enjoyed the woodcarving section and bought a turtle. Definitely barter! We spent the rest of the day at an "Island Dive Bar" called The Bearded Clam to watch the World Cup. Food was good, drinks were great, and the staff was friendly. Due to rough waters not allowing safe tendering, Half Moon Cay was cancelled for us and we enjoyed another Sea Day. The Cruise Director Staff tried to add some entertainment for us, including discounted Bingo and trivia, but it was mostly just a relaxing day. Disappointing, but you have to understand safety first. We did an independent excursion in Gran Turk through Exclusive Escapes and can't say enough. We did a snorkel, conch dive, and stingray interaction trip and it was amazing. The drop they take you to to see the reefs was breathtaking and getting to swim with the stingrays was great. USE THIS VENDOR. The owner's were incredibly kind and the crew was great! Before you book this cruise, take it for what it is. It's an inexpensive cruise on an old ship. Just have fun instead of nitpicking everything! The clientele was different than what I have seen on RCL, Princess, and other Carnival ships, but everyone was friendly and just looking to have a good time! Just note that people may not dress how you've seen in the past. Read Less

This was my first cruise with Carnival and it will be my last. Embarkation and disembarkation was somewhat chaotic but tolerable. The ship itself is older and a little outdated. Our cabin steward, Sean, did an excellent job and was very friendly. The room was nice enough but could of used some updating. My husband is 6'3" and couldn't stand up fully when showering which was a pain for him. The worst part of the cruise was the food. The buffet was bland and not made of foods I normally eat. Guy's Burger Joint was good but you get tired of burgers and fries. The pizza was normally burnt on the edges but my teenage sons ate it more than anything else on the boat. The entertainment was okay, but I was expecting more variety. The casino was fun if you have money to blow. The Bottomless Bubbles that we paid a lot for was a joke. My sons had to go to the BAR to get a soda which I found to be unacceptable. And, they only had canned soda on board the ship. Totally ridiculous! The ports were nice enough but the shore excursions were over priced for what we received. One had lunch included and it was bland rice, peas and carrots and chicken or pork. Maybe they were going for a local flair with the lunch, but it was disappointing. We cruised with Royal Caribbean in the past and they'll get our money the next time we go on a family cruise. Carnival nickel and dimes you for everything so you end up spending a small fortune when you think you've already paid for everything beforehand. Oh and be prepared for a 15% gratuity to be added to EVERYTHING from drinks to goods you buy at the Fun Shops. I feel that I should have a choice of when to leave a gratuity and not have it forced on me. The whole cruise left a bad taste in my mouth for Carnival. Read Less

I have always been a Royal Caribbean cruiser, so I thought I would give this one a try with a friend. That will NEVER AGAIN happen. The ship is old and extremely outdated. The food is absolutely not up to cruise expectations. There is a $20 fee for certain foods (ie. lobster, steaks, etc..) in the dining room. I have never heard of such a thing. The beauty of cruising is not having to deal with those things. It is a different waiter every night so they do not get to know you and have nothing ready for you. The dining room staff was unfriendly to say the least, with the exception of only a few people. Bar staff was very slow at nearly all bars except till I found Alan in the bar by the casino. He was awesome! Our room attendant only made our room up completely 2 out of the 5 nights. The other days the bunks were left in the down position making it difficult to move around the already small room. Excursion towels were never left in our room even though the daily news told us to take the blue towels located in our room to the beaches. Rarely did you find a Purell hand sanitizer station that actually had Purell in it. The main thing that sealed the deal for taking the time to write this review is the fact that a guy was hammering away on some metal railing right outside our stateroom at 8:00 AM. Despite us telling him that kids were sleeping in the room. Overall this ship was a huge disappointment. I highly recommend spending a little extra on a better boat. I would not cruise this ship again even if it was free. Read Less

We chose to get married on carnival sensation so our family could join us. The package seemed affordable and it advertised coordinators pre-cruise and during ceremony and reception. Turns out the pre-coordinators after only allowed to tell you what you can't do, then you get to guess as to how to plan around that. The only reason our wedding was successful was bc the on board coordinators came through with spot on instructions. The cake they made was dry and flavorless (we chose lemon and marble). For a 2 hour event, it's not worth it at all. The worst part of it all was the photography options for our wedding! We spent $900 on 45 photos to barely get time to pick our photos in a busy hallway full oh hundreds of people, with constant interruptions, after a long day of excursions and they still managed to give us a duplicate photo. So, $900 for 44 photos. This is the second cheapest option. They force you to wait on the photographer that took the photos, that is constantly booked at another gimmicky event if you try to ask to see them again - even though there's always 5 standing in the gallery doing nothing but pushing people to buy their dinner photos. There's no portal or way to purchase the package post cruise!!! There is however a long drawn out option of CDs being mailed with instructions if you'd like to buy more (@ $30 per 8x10). But, the boat itself was disgusting! It's old, and it's never clean. The carpet is disgusting (even in our fathers penthouse rooms). The balconies are a joke and just take away cabin space. The food was mediocre and often cold. They constantly had photographers and gimmicky things interrupting your meals so they could sell you something later. The pillows are amazing!!! The beds are hard and full of dips and crevasses. The excursions were eh. Don't do the ultimate land and sea unless you've never seen a horse or dune buggy in your life. They're both a 5 minute jaunt for beginners. The snorkeling had people feeding the fish so we just followed the guy in mass for 20 minutes. And the ropes course is just a waiting game bc they pulled you up on top of each other. Overall, I'm not impressed and would never consider a carnival cruise again. Please do not get married on this boat if you want a beautiful wedding to remember. Read Less

Limited to travel in June I would love for carnival to retire the ship sensation and use a newer ship for This Bahamas destination. I don't have the opportunity to cruise on the newer ships because the cruise line uses the same ships in June to this destination. I take my parents with me and they deserve to cruise on the newer ships. Come on Carnival make that change for my parents and all the other cruisers who deserve to experience the newer ship. Atlanta Ga 2018 carnival did an excellent job with embarkation and debarkation. We arrived at 3p to ship. The process was fast and easy. The staff was nice. They were smiling and very pleasant. We needed to wheelchairs and help with our luggage and they had them readily available. I liked Guy's hamburger station. The food was delicious The omelet station was good also. My sister and I have started to do a cruise every year around may/beginning of June. We first started with Royal Caribbean and decided to choose carnival this year. The cruise left out of Miami (would definitely rather leave out of Miami, instead of Port Canaveral.) Since we had a suite we had the choice of getting on the boat between 11:30 to 3. Loved this because we could get on right away, unpack, and start vacation. We got onto the cruise ship around 11:30/12 and it was a pretty easy process getting through security, etc. But like I said we had priority/early boarding so that could be why. The ship wasn't as bad inside, being one of the oldest ships but it had a horrible smell throughout. Sometimes so bad at certain bars we couldn't even sit and enjoy our drinks. The smell was a mix between sewer and propane. The suite was huge for a cruise ship, plenty of storage, counter space, and enough room to comfortably fit two twin beds and a couch that turned into a full size bed (btw very comfortable beds.) Awesome view from our balcony and plenty of privacy from neighbors. The bars and buffet were already open and ready to go. Make sure you get the drink package!! 15 drinks a day "free"- wine, beer, mixed drinks, soda, water, etc. are all included in this. There was a great bar called alchemy that made some of the best drinks I've ever had- and for free! These drinks would be upwards of 15$ anywhere else, and probably on the boat as well. The buffet was terrible. Worst buffet food I've ever had. Not many choices for breakfast/lunch. If you have the dining package for the Fantasy or Ecstasy Dining rooms be aware that the service is slow and the portions are small-but you can order however many items you'd like. Make sure you make friends with the bartenders- bar service can be very slow and they will remember you and take care of you! I wish i remember some of their names because of how awesome they were. Others not so much. It shows a lot when a person can remember you name after meeting 2,000 other people for months at a time. Entertainment was eh, at best. Not the best performances so I stayed away from the shows. There is always great entertainment at the Fantasia Main Show Lounge (the closest bar to to the casino.) Casino was alright-nothing special. Port of call #1 was in the Key West. Make sure to get up early because you are only there until 1. More time would have been nice. Second port of call was Cozumel Mexico! I love mexico and had a great time. Definitely spend some money on an excursion. Theres not much to do right at the port and you need to uber to get anywhere else. We did swimming with the dolphins through "Dolphinarias." We had the "vip" package which was a small group, free lunch (really good food) and drinks. It goes from 1-5 I believe but we left after swimming with the dolphins and lunch. Disembarkation means get off the boat as quick as you can. They have only a few hours to get the boat ready for 2,000 more people so its understandable. But I wish it went a little differently. I would recommend this cruise for anyone really, but it was really fun for two girls in their mid twenties. Don't come with the highest expectations but expect to have a great time. Read Less

I went on a Carnival Sensation Cruise from 05/17/2018-05/21/2018. It was the worst experience of my life. We got on the boat at 11 am but was not allowed to go to our room until 1:30. When we first arrived on the boat it was pouring with rain and everybody was waiting in line for the 2 food options available. Since it was raining and we weren't allowed in our rooms, I sat in the hallway for 3 hours hoping the trip was going to get better. When we finally got into our room it was disappointing. We paid for a king size bed but what we got was 2 twin beds pushed together that continued to pull apart as the ship rocked. Our Cruise was schedule to tour Half Moon Cay and Nassau. The weather prevented us from visiting Half Moon Cay so we detoured to Freeport. Online Carnival advertised beautiful clean beaches. I didn't get so lucky as to see where those pictures were taken. The port the ship drops you off at is a worn down industrial manufacturing junk yard. The Bahamas were hit by Hurricane Irma in September 2017 and it definitely shows. There is debris everywhere and no sign of renovations. Online they have the captivating title of WaterWorks included. "Carnival's onboard waterpark" it's actually 1 slide, 1 pool, and 2 hot tubs for 3,000 people. The water is freezing and if you mange to squeeze your way into the hot tub you will be accompanied by children screaming and splashing water into your face and drinks. Online they claim "The world you'll find yourself in is one of complete peace". This couldn't be further from the truth. More like you will find yourself stuck in the middle of a frat party with no escape. There is no such thing as a good night sleep with drunk people wandering the halls at all hours yelling at the top of their lungs, children running up and down the halls, and your neighbors toilet that never seems to stop flushing. If you are sober I do not recommend The Punch liner Comedy Club where you will listen to grown men complain about how nobody is laughing at their jokes. If you are sober I also do not recommend their food. Lets start with room service. Your breakfast is limited to the food you can find at the Dollar Tree: bagels, yogurt, cereal, and juice. Far from their "extensive room service menus". Their lunch and dinner free options aren't much better: caesar salad, ham and cheese sandwich, or PB&J. Their room service menu is comparable to what you can find in your fridge at home. The restaurants are limited to The Dining Room, Guy's Burger Joint, Blueiguana Cantina, and The Carnival Deli. 4 restaurants may seem like a like but remember you are eating 25 meals onboard. Those options become less appealing as the trip goes on. Plus they weren't amazing in the first place. I believe the cruise is hoping everybody gets drunk enough to not notice how mediocre the food is. Lastly terrible customer service. If you are not ordering an acholic beverage, the bartenders will ignore you because they believe you will not tip them. If you request to speak to a manager at guest services, they will give you the run around as to why nobody can help you and why you must wait till after your cruise to file a complaint. I filed a complaint on 05/19/2018 and demanded to speak to a manager. I chose this cruise because I thought it would be a good way to travel on holiday and I have been on several cruises before and have had very good experiences in the past. This cruise however, was a huge disappointment. I will say that the services in the dining room and the staff that cleaned our room were excellent but that was the extent of it. I preordered a Wi-Fi plan before embarkation and the Wi-Fi plan barely worked the entire trip. In the past when I had a Wi-Fi plan I never had issues with getting the Wi-Fi to work but on this trip the Wi-Fi hardly worked at all and I didn't have a cheap Wi-Fi plan either. I know you can't control the weather but it rained/was cloudy the entire trip and we ended up having to change port of call one day. Instead of going to the planned Half Moon Cay (which was the whole reason we even booked this particular trip) we ended up going to Freeport and had to book an excursion for that day. It was so windy that you couldn't even enjoy the beach. The next day in Nassau when we went to our planned excursion we ended up leaving nearly 30 minutes later than the planned time because we were waiting on late arrivals even though we were told to be on the pier by 10:00a.m. and the ticket time said to be there by 10:15a.m. and the departure time was set for 10:30a.m. The ship ended up calling us back about an hour before our planned time (3:30p.m.) so we ended up having to leave at 2:00 p.m. because it was a half hour boat ride back to the pier where the ship was docked. We got to the beach that day around 11:40a.m and ended up only getting about 2 hours on the beach and we were actually supposed to have 4 hours (that's what we paid for when we booked it). The first day in Freeport when we did the excursion I have to say it was very organized. The second day in Nassau when we did the excursion it was nothing but chaos. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that at the island where the beach is they have a lot to do. They have the stingray adventure, swimming with dolphins, the private cabanas, swimming pools, and the beaches. Everyone who signs up to do one of those things (and possibly something else) goes to this island. It was chaos getting there and it was chaos getting back. At one point I wasn't even sure I was still in the right place to get where I was supposed to go. Read Less

This being my 4th Carnival cruise...6th cruise total, I was shocked and extremely disappointed with the overall service, hospitality, and food during this cruise. Carnival cruises in the past have set a standard with me that I've grown accustomed to and love, and the Carnival Sensation was truly a disappoint to say the least. I'm used to being greeted when staff passes, not have them darn near scrub up against the wall to keep from having to acknowledge you at all. We experienced so much rudeness and so much attitude during the first couple of days that we just gave up on expecting anything positive from crew members. Something as simple as asking for directions to a certain part of the ship we encountered sucking of the teeth... REALLY! At our FIRST breakfast in the dinning room we requested Danishes for our table and the server had the nerve to exhale as though he was exasperated with us. This we did complain about and were moved to a different section. On Lido deck that same evening my girlfriends and I wanted to enjoy a pitcher of frozen Margaritas, the bartender proceeded to fix it on the rocks and when we told him that we wanted it frozen he literally THREW THE PITCHER into the tub bin behind him telling us LOUDLY "It doesn't come frozen"! The entire cruise our sink and shower were clogged and would overflow easily if we hadn't been careful and patient enough to not let it happen. This was reported to FIRST night of the cruise, and when we left... it still hadn't been fixed. I could go on...and on with complaints and the awful experience of this vacation but as bad as everything was as a whole I'm sure Carnival is aware way before my complaint today and obviously have chosen to do NOTHING. As much as I LOVE Cruise Vacations... IF SENSATION is the only ship sailing... I would NEVER CRUISE AGAIN!! After this Cruise, I'm strongly considering experiencing some of the other lines... I doubt if anything can be a worse experience than being trapped on Sensation for 5 days! I'm so easily satisfied, and I'm careful when having to make complaints especially where people's jobs are concerned. But things were so awful on this trip that I just couldn't let it just slide by. Not to mention that this was my most expensive trip of all if I'm not mistaken, which is another thorn in my side. Other cruises I've been on haven't been PERFECT, but the good always out weighed the bad so much that I didn't mind the other minor things... NOT THIS TIME! Things were so bad that we actually joked about this ship either being where newbies go to train but just not grasping it, or where the staff that are being let go are positioned until they disembark. The highlight and CARNIVAL HOSPITALITY that I've grown to love was consistant with Kirby - Lido Deck Server. He was the ONE person that provided the kind of service, fun, and memorable laughs that I've grown to love since traveling with Carnival. Kirby was ALWAYS quick, easily accessible, made suggestions, remembered our names and what we liked. Yes, Kirby is that stuff that other Great Carnival Staff are made of. Read Less

I was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the reviews. This ship is older but it was clean and the service was awesome. The food was average but I'm not a big eater so that didn't bother me any. The food in the dining room was better than the buffet food though. I'd definitely get a balcony room again, we spent quite a bit of time out there chatting and listening to music. The elevators were really slow, we only used them once in 5 days. We didn't mind climbing stairs but it would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. We never used the pool, it was always pretty crowded. They may want to look into adding another pool. We spent our days at shore on the beach anyhow so the pool was really a nonissue for us. There weren't a whole lot of kids on this cruise which was a plus for us. We were looking for peace and quiet. I'd do this cruise again. Read Less

Not sure why people would complain, I thought for the money it was a fantastic cruise, my family had a blast and I would have had fun even without the excursions. It was very relaxing from a stressful business life, tanning, eating and simply just standing looking out at the blue water having a drink was therapy for me. My kids went crazy with those cheese burgers at Guy's and the burrito bar was awesome. Every morning having a breakfast buffet with my family was great considering we never have time to do that these days. I truly can't wait to take our next cruise next year, this time it's for mommy and daddy. The crew did a great job accommodating us with all requests, they even remembered my name after one day. So with all of this I must say Carnival met my expectations thanks to everyone on that boat! Read Less

This is my 3rd with carnival, i love carnival cruises it is always a party. However this ship was just the opposite. The crew was rude. It didn't have much fun things to do. At least in my opinion. The bars were packed, the pool was packed the last day on the day at sea me and my husband decided to sleep and order room service. the waiter at dinner was slow and rude. only went to dinner one night. The water from the fountain tasted bad. We had to buy a case of water, where on the other ship i was fine with the water from tap. We went to Cozumel and key west which the ports we perfect! but the debarkation at the end of the cruise was ridiculous. We waited and waited and waited to be called. Which was pretty bad. I wont sail again on this ship. Well at least try not to because carnival is great but this ship is pretty bad. Read Less

I wanna be fair, this is a value cruise and I get that and I honestly had a very good time, state rooms are comfortable and where cleaned regularly, casino was fun, spent quite a few bucks in the slots and playing blackjack, the host treated me and the wife with "free drinks" and brought some cookies and a certificate for a bottle of wine to stateroom which I appreciated. Where I always have issues with Carnival and this was our second trip with them, is the food!! Main dining room dinner was fine on the 3 nights we used it, however the food and service at the main dining room for breakfast and brunch was terrible, very slow and almost not edible. Buffett we didn't do, just not our thing however we did try the pizza station which was good and you could get a decent deli sandwich or a fairly taste Guys burger, which had weird limited hours of 12 to 6??? Why? Pool area was always very crowded and the music was so loud!! I avoided it unless we had to walk through, upper decks where nice and the back serenity area was good but man it got crowded fast! (Best spot is forward near the putt putt top deck) Had a great excursion booked through carnival in Cozemel, it was called the elite Champaign catamaran, highly recommend this! Worse part of cruise was getting of the boat, they really screwed this up! You just wait and wait to wait some more, one que to the next, have done other lines that have this down way better! But if you want a short getaway and have a limited budget this is probally a good value, Myself I would try another line or go with one of carnivals newer ships. Read Less

I never give much merit to 'extreme' reviews and yet, I am unable to offer anything positive about this cruise. The food was horrible. It was poor quality and poorly prepared. There was nothing fresh, crisp or flavorful. It was mainly processed, dry and salty. Everyone we talked to were complaining about the food. To avoid the food on the cruise, we ate as soon as we were off the ship and would eat right before we had to get back on the ship. The food was my number one complaint; absolutely horrible. I was so disappointed. I've cruised on other cruise lines and was so excited to try Carnival. I purchased a Suite with a balcony, VIP service, drink package and WiFi. The WiFi did not work. The A/C leaked on our bed during the entire trip (I made guest services aware of the issue everyday). It took forever to get a drink at the bar (most alcoholic drinks were very weak). There was very little entertainment. Overall.......Epic Fail Read Less

Terrible!! Will never even consider carnival again. 1- Not enough seating areas for number of guest. My example is, if you're sailing and don't have a stop that day, what will the 2000 + people on board do? They will go to the ONE pool, that might have enough chairs to support a few hundred of those people. So then people get up first thing in the morning to put their towels (that cost $20 if you lose) on a chair that they only use for a few minutes throughout the day because they're all in the pool. 2- When it's time to eat, the food is awful. What makes it worse is having to move dirty dishes out of the way on tables so you can sit down to eat. There is no shortage of staff though, they're all over, but they are not real quick to move dirty dishes off of tables. 3- Maybe it was just a bad time of year, but it seemed to be a party barge and not at all family friendly. College aged girls pulling their tops down in the pool with young children in there with them (right next to them), pot smoking regularly occurring not only in the designated smoking area, but throughout the entire ship (in the cabin, playing putt-putt, at the water slides, etc...) 4- Did I mention the food was terrible? 5- Cost- the initial cost of the cruise seems reasonable. Then an $11 drink (PLUS automatic gratuity) for you and your wife here and there over the course of the cruise, a few souvenirs for the kids, (none of the $12 pictures they took everytime you turn around though), a couple bucks for the casino, a fee for gambling your own money in their casino all added up to almost $1000 extra dollars!!! Oh.... some of that was the almost $4 per bottle of water. 6- I just remembered, I always saw the crew washing windows and wiping down hand rails. That must be priority over taking away dirty dishes and wiping down tables. 7- I'm 100% convinced they don't change the bedding after each float. 8- Our last two nights, we decided to order room service and eat in our tiny little room rather than going through the chow line and finding a spot to eat. The food was that bad. 9- We've been on other cruises. My wife and I are not cruise experts but any means though. But this entire experience has almost been a joke to us. If my son hadn't learned some new words from some of the crowd that was around, it would have been a joke. Read Less

Overall, this was the best cruise I have taken so far with Carnival (my 3rd one). This has mostly to do with the amazing ports that this sailing visited. I had an amazing time in the Dominican Republic and Grand Turk was by far the most beautiful place I have ever been in my life. As far as the ship, believe the majority of the reviews, the ship IS older and definitely shows some signs of wear and tear. There were no areas or spaces that were down-right decrepit, but from the staterooms to the common areas, you can definitely tell that this is an older, smaller ship that lacks a lot of the luxury of the newer, larger ships. The only pro to this was that areas were less-crowded which resulted in better, faster service (most of the time), however it was still a fight to find a beach chair on days at sea. Overall, if it involved being able to travel to such amazing destinations for a somewhat reasonable price, I definitely would hop on the sensation again, however in the future, I will definitely be on the lookout for larger newer ships. Dining room experience good .They should allow more food options on Lido deck. The burgers were very good. Kids had a great time. Entertainment was non stop. The staff was friendly and helpful. For the cost and length of the cruise I think we got our money's worth. I would recommend for 1 time cruise to try the Sensation. You have to try it yourself and not go by all the reviews. Kids had s nice time at the camps. Age groups 6 to 11 you have to pay after 10pm fee and 15% gratuity for night activities. Do not wait till the last minute to get your pictures. Family of 5 with two teachers were forced to find a decent deal during Easter break. We liked the iternary on this cruise and the price for this Easter cruise was not obscene so we booked it. We booked two rooms - 3 people in 1 room and 2 in the other. Embarkation: What an ABSOLUTE cluster! We selected the second wave of embarkation reservations. So our slot was 11:30-noon. Our brother selected the first slot 11:00am-11:30am. We passed through security okay and thought.....this is going too well. Bingo - after security we walked into a huge waiting room with lots and lots of people. We found the last available seats (there must have been 600 or more people in this space) and camped out. We chatted with another group who actually had a 1pm time slot for boarding. WHY are they letting people in early? Doesn't that defeat the entire intention of breaking the groups into smaller manageable groups. Anyhow, becoming more frustrating by the minute it took 35 minutes for them to call up the FIRST boarding group - so it's well last noon and they are now boarding the first group? Good grief! After about an hour we were finally called up and slowly made our way onto the ship. The ship during this time was very chaotic. They blocked access to the staterooms so everyone onboard was forced to be in the pool (Lido deck) and crammed into the buffet. Guys, Blue Iguana and the Buffet were the only options. They were all very, very packed. It was near impossible to find a table. I am not sure why they don't offer the MDR as an option - if nothing else, it will help spread out the crowd. We finally gained access to our room and they did not have 3 beds like we requested. We asked the cabin steward and he said it would be done by 6pm. I was disappointed to see when we came back to the room that they just added a bed beside our current bed - completely blocking the isle to get to the head. I really thought they would have a better solution to 3 beds in an inside room. The bathroom was pretty nasty and when we showered the drains would not work and they would flood the entire bathroom. Nice! A couple of gripes: 1. The stairs had no floor numbers on them. So if you took the stairs and didn't want to keep track of every floor you climbed to you needed to take a couple of steps to view the tiny room number indicator on the elevators. I can't make this up. Stupid stuff like this drives my crazy that Carnival is so poorly run that they don't realize there are no floor numbers in the stairs. 2. There were very few public bathrooms. If your eating in the MDR and need to visit the restroom you basically needed to leave the MDR and go to the elevators for the bathroom that offered 4 stalls - really??? 3. Condition of the public bathrooms. Horrible. The mens rooms sinks and faucets were truly a joke. In one bathroom on the Lido deck the faucets were not really bolted down to the sinks and would flap around and leak when you used them. Again, more stupid stuff that a company this old should not be dealing with. 4. Karoke - this event always drew big crowds and the room they picked for the duration of the cruise could only provide seats for about 1/3 of the people in this room. A very high majority of people were forced to stand. Again, does Carnival notice this and do anything like bring in extra chairs??? LOL NOPE! 5. The bars - the main bars at the Casino and Lido deck were always packed and only had 2 bartenders that moved very slowly. I don't blame them for this but why does Carnival not staff with more people?? I don't think there was one instance where I went up to wait for a drink and had one, two or three other groups come after me, stand in a different spot at the bar and get served before me. Every. Single. Time. Beyond frustrating. We did a NCL cruise about 2 months prior and it was night and day - and didn't have to be. It was very noticable that NCL would notice something one day and fix it the next day. Carnival has given up on this ship. The MDR service was the highlight for us. Great service. Food was meh, but the service was top-notch. Read Less
