We have been on different cruise lines and different Carnival ships and to my shock, this was the best cruise I've ever been on. This was a cruise for just myself and my son to celebrate his college graduation. This was a hurricane season trip so for one, we took a gamble because this was a great value. Secondly, a few days before sailing we were offered an upsell from our deck 5 mid ship ocean view to an Empress Deck balcony. The price wasn't bad and I took it. So glad we did. We typically always book balconies but since my wife wasn't going I originally booked an OV because I figured we would save the money since it was just guys, We flew to Ft. Lauderdale the morning of the trip from Cleveland. Everything from a travel standpoint went smoothly. We prepaid for Carnival transportation to Miami and that went smoothly as well. I appreciated being able to check in at the airport alleviating the need to stand in line at the port. When we arrived at the port, we walked right on the ship. We had to wait until 1:30 to access our room which wasn't an issue. A burrito from the Blue Iguana and burger from Guy's and we were ready to get to our room. This is one of the oldest ships in the fleet and the staterooms are where you feel it the most. Our stateroom was configured oddly since we asked for separate twin beds. This stateroom also had optional pull down beds as this was set up to accommodate up to 4 passengers. I wouldn't want to cram 4 people in there. For the two of us we had plenty of storage space. It was a small room compared to the other ships we had been on, but the balcony was a great addition. I love sitting on the balcony at night and listening to the sea so this was a great upgrade. We chose YTD for this trip. We packed light for this trip and did not bring clothes for formal nights. If you must get anything on day one, get the strawberry cake pops from the buffet. Those are a definite guilty pleasure. We ate in the MDR each night except formal night. We were never disappointed in the selection or quality. We have in the past had spotty service in the YTD MDR on previous trips. The service on this trip was spot on from the beginning to the end. We also ate in the MDR for seaday brunch. Many stacks of pancakes later we were stuffed. Kevin Donohue was our CD and for the first time ever an CD made a difference in our cruise. Kevin was fantastic. He was fun and entertaining without being over the top or obnoxious. He seemed to genuinely enjoy the interaction and kept the fun going every day. I was impressed with how he dealt with events and people. So much fun. Kudos to Kevin for being the best we've had. We attended the love and marriage show (awkward and hysterical). We went to the towel folding demonstration. This was my son's idea, but surprisingly fun. He won at trivia so he was happy to have his ship on a stick. Carnival had no choice as to what the weather would be, but the weather was perfect each and every day. You can't complain with 85-90 and sun every day. We did a private all inclusive in Nassau and enjoyed it. We missed Half Moon Cay on our last trip and was able to go this time. I absolutely love HMC. It's the softest sand and crystal clear water. It's a bucket list beach. We knew there would be a seaweed issue in Grand Turk so we booked the Snorkel and Stingray excursion through the ship. We had 24 people on this excursion and had a blast. If this excursion had 50-60 people it would have been chaos, but 24 was manageable. I just could not believe how much we enjoyed this cruise and this ship. We went off peak so there were minimal kids, no crazy rowdy parties. Just people having fun. Having only one pool meant the pool was shoulder to shoulder people. If you wanted a chair by the pool get there early. The chairs weren't being hogged, they were being used. If you don't mind an older ship this was a great option for us. Relax, chill and have a good time. take a chance on an off peak trip. We would definitely do this again to go back to HMC. Great time had by all. Read Less

So we were looking for a quick getaway and happened upon this cruise, got a great deal. As it got closer, we were reading other reviews on this site and got really nervous. However, we needn’t have worried!! Everything about this trip was great. We had a Junior suite, so not sure if that had anything to do with it, but our Embarkation was the easiest we’ve come across in over 10 cruises. Disembarkation was also very smooth, although we had another excursion planned in Miami so that may have helped as well. We enjoyed the food, the entertainment, and the excursions. The only downside was that on day 2, a shipmate apparently vomited in the pool amd the pool was closed for probably 48 hours while they drained and cleaned it. We had planned to stay on the ship and enjoy the pool while docked in Nassau (been there multiple times) but the pool was shut down, so that was disappointing. The fan in our bathroom did not work which was really not a problem until we took showers too closely together and set the fire alarm off with the steam. The fire crew was very nice :) the Blue Iguana Cantina was fantastic, breakfast is served out there in the mornings as well, so instead of fighting the crowd in the big buffet, we ate by the pool every morning. The shows were all very, very good!!! They do not advertise the content of the shows, so go to them all so you don’t miss anything! One of the shows was 70’s era music and it was fabulous. Half Moon Cay was AMAZING, we booked a 9:00 excursion (horseback riding) so were first off the ship and able to secure beach chairs no problem. Half Moon Cay easily the best stop on this cruise, hands down. All in all, we were not disappointed at all. No smell that I’d read about in other reviews (believe me, i would have noticed!) the food was great, never met a steward/waiter etc that wasn’t smiling and greeting me. Dining staff greeted us by name and knew exactly my preferences by dinner #2. Same service I’d experienced on Royal Caribbean, just a more casual atmosphere. Loved every minute!! Read Less

This was our third cruise on Carnival (5th overall) and, to be honest, I don’t think I will cruise with them again. This ship was very rundown and dirty. Our stateroom was not that bad except for the carpet, which was filthy. I don’t think our stateroom was vacuumed the whole time we were there as there was a piece of food or something under the desk when we got there that was still there when we left. The mattress was a little hard but the rest of it was OK. The worst thing, though, was the excursion we did in Ocho Rios. It was the Island Tour and Bamboo Beach Break. It was supposed to make 4 stops before ending up on the beach. At only two of those were we allowed to get off the bus. Mainly they were restroom stops where the line to use the facilities was long and then it was “get back on the bus.” After the first stop, we pulled over in a parking lot and were told there was something wrong with our bus and we needed to wait for them to bring us another bus. They didn’t say what was wrong with the bus, just said it was for our safety and that it wouldn’t take away from our beach time. We waited maybe 1/2 hour for the new bus after being told, “It’s 10 min away.” “It’s 5 min away.” and it ended up taking much longer than that. Next “stop” was the old church built in the 1500s. We basically just drove up to it, turned around and drove away. Our guide said we were not allowed to get out and enter the church unless we were Catholic but I saw someone else’s YouTube video of the same tour and they actually got out, walked around the church and even when inside. So, that was a lie and I think it was really due to our long wait for them to bring us another bus. We ended up at the Bamboo Beach Club where the tour description said we would be “shown to a chair on the beach and brought a cool drink.” In reality, we were handed a drink from a tray when we exited the bus. Our group of chairs were actually the furthest away and on a very rocky, tree lined part of the beach. By the time we reached the area where we were told to sit, the ice in my drink was melted so I asked for more which, of course, never materialized. We had to step over rocks and tree roots while carrying a drink and then down a rocky slope to even get to the beach. I had seen other’s pictures where the chairs we right on the shore so you could walk directly into the water without all the climbing. The description also said food would be available for purchase, so I assume there was little snack bar something on the beach. It ended up being a three-course lunch for either $17 or $22 and you had to buy the drink extra. It was either that or you got nothing. I ended up purchasing the jerk chicken meal for $17. To be honest, it was not that great. The chicken was good but the rice and coldeslaw seemed bland to me and she kept forgetting my soup. When it finally arrived, it was good, some sort of fish soup and the best thing about the meal. My sister had the fish option for $22 and was served first but they kept forgetting her silverware. So, her meal got cold while waiting for utensils. They also kept forgetting my brother-in-law’s beer, so he actually did not get it until he was finished with his meal. I went to the restroom, which was back by where the bus was parked and, when I came out, was told it was time to get back on the bus. We hadn’t had out desert yet so they ended up bringing us our desert to eat on the bus. It seemed mostly a setup to put Jamaicans to work, so you can’t fault them for that. I just wonder how much of the money they get for those meals. The activities on “sea days” seemed kind of rushed and were always late starting. My husband likes to play corn hole and, for this activity, they only let you have one throw the first time. If you didn’t make it on the board, you were automatically out. Also they were positioned at the end of the bar so you could not see the rest of the participants from where we sitting in the bar. We saw two comedians, one of which was great and the other was not good at all. He even kept commenting about how people weren’t laughing. The variety show was music and dancing was just so so. But, the biggest thing I noticed is that the staff seemed less attentive than on other Carnival ships I’ve been on. On other ships, if you order a drink the first night, that drink is waiting for you on other nights or at least they ask you if that is what you want to drink . On this ship, I had to ask for my drink every night and sometimes it was not brought to me until mid-meal. Also, it seems like a small thing, but we did not have towel animals in our room every day, haha! Only the first, fourth, and fifth days. As I said, it’s a small thing, but we look forward to opening our door and seeing what the animal will be! Carnival is billed as “the fun ships” and we’ve always had a great deal of fun on every cruise but this one. I guess our expectations were just too high! Read Less

Very disappointed in the Carnival Sensation. Cruise date was September 6th thru 10th, 2018. My boyfriend and I were in need of a relaxing vacation. Boarding was quick and easy just had to wait for room to be ready. We get to the room it was good until.... I see there was black mold in the shower (I have attached pictures). As you can see in the pictures there is a lot and completely visible (not sure how that got missed in the cleaning process). I have allergies and on prescription medication. Then the king bed would not stay together. We told room service after the first night and he said he would take care of it and he did not. Dining took 35 minutes to even get the first part of what we ordered. Then to top it off walking down the hallway there was a strong smell of someone smoking weed in their cabin and nothing was done about it until the last night. When we returned from our excursion it was to late to go to the dining room, so we proceeded to get pizza well that was not happening there was a line of about 10 people with one person making pizzas and they were not very friendly.. After planning this family vacation for 28 people for over 13 months, carnival let me down extremely. I want to make sure i am transparent on this review so that others can use this to make a better decision than I did when planning. 1. My carnival travel agent was Yanely Pardo. Very courtesy and friendly young lady. She helped book over 25 persons on this cruise for us. We thought that most of us would be book in side by side rooms, but when we arrived for some reason we were very scattered on the ship making it hard to enjoy being together, but that was a very minor issue. 2.The ship was fair. It seem to be a very old ship but it was kept fairly well and was clean enough to be comfortable. We had an ocean view cabin on deck 4 and it was okay. Everything worked properly and we were able to be comfortable while in the cabin. 3. Dining was a very unfortunate part of the cruise. The food was tasteless. The buffet served a different themed food every night (ex. Caribbean, French etc), but food was not seasoned well. For dinner at the Fantasy dining room the food was the same; tasteless. Portions were small, but fair. 3a- the bottomless and cheers programs are a rip off. For the cheers program they ask that every adult in the room purchase the package at 50+ dollars a night which is not fair especially if there are others that do not drink in the room. The bottomless drinks we purchased for the kids did not include bottled water (this is stated on the site, but i over looked it so this is not on them, but I do find it unreasonable to not add water in a package with juice and soda). 4.Water activities for the kids. on this particular boat there was 1 water section for the toddler kids. The website states that toddlers are not allowed to wear swimmers or any thing of that kind that resembles a diaper and we also failed to notice this fine print, but the issues was not with the rule but more the RUDENESS of the staff when trying to address us about my nephew wearing a swimmer. When I inquired on why they explained so then I asked what they would suggest because he has paid the full amount to enjoy all activities on the boat. The staffer (who had no sincere concern on helping the situation) tells me that he take it off and just wear the trunks. While he was explaining this to me the Housekeeping supervisor comes in and starts to impatiently tell me why he could not wear the swimmer and annoyed he starts to speak slowly as if I didn't understand English. Even went as far as telling me that I could do what ever I needed to do. Which then made me irate and i went down to guest services to ask for his supervisor only to get someone under him! Very poor customer service in this situation that created a unpleasant mood for our family on this cruise. 5.Servicers on the ship drive on getting you to purchase more more and more because they get tips off of everything you purchase. My husband purchased several buckets of beers (which includes 4 beers for $24 yes $24) One of his servers brought back a ticket for 8 beers (this is double the amount as well as in tip amount). 6. Since there were almost 30 of us we decided not to use any of Carnivals excursion they offered on the site (extremely expensive). We ended up going to Playa Mia Grand Beach park. Each adult paid $45 for entry & buffet (only juice and water included). Kids under 11 years paid $35 for the same. 7. Guest services- Although most guest service reps were kind and helpful there was one gentlemen who seemed to be annoyed with having a job. I reviewed my invoice and found a $51.80 charge for service (maid, kitchen staff). so I asked what it was for and he then told me that it was a mandatory charge per person. So i left it alone only to find out the next morning that it was only a recommended charge and that i prepaid for it for myself and husband prior to the cruise. I asked another young lady to remove the charge for the children (3 kids) and she did and handed me a receipt for the removal of the charge, but the next day once I received the invoice i was charged the $51.80 for each child anyway. Although this was my 1st cruise and I was not sure what to expect the overall experience wasn't as grand and wonderful as we had hope it would be. Planning for 13 months to arrive and having staff be insensitive and unaccommodating as well as having servicers nickel and dime us at every chance did not make the trip fun or relaxing at all. I would not recommend a Carnival cruise to anyone and would not spend my own money on booking with them again. So much confusion and extra fees. I plan on trying another cruise line soon to see how the experience is suppose to be before determining if i am going to cruise regularly. Read Less

I chose this cruise due to the length, ports of call, and price. I did a lot of research before the trip and knew what to expect. I think any cruise (just like life) is what you make it. If you are a negative person who finds fault in everything, then you probably won't enjoy this ship. Otherwise you will have a great time. There were five people in my party and this was a girls trip. Ages ranged from 18-47. Everyone in the group had a great time. Embarkation and debarkation were quick and easy. Great food options were available. The food was very good for the most part. Drinks were great. We loved the main dining room (Fantasy), Guy's Burgers and the Cantina. Buffet is typical buffet. There was always something that appealed to me on the menu. There were only a couple of dishes that I didn't think were fantastic. If you choose Anytime Dining, ask for Horace's section-he and his assistants were fantastic. We found them on the third night and requested their section for the remainder of the cruise. There are plenty of activities to stay busy if you want. There are also quiet places if you prefer. It's a small ship and there are a few decks where you can't go from bow to stern, but that's not a big deal to me. Even though this is an older ship, there were always people cleaning and I never encountered anything but cleanliness. The inside cabin was great. There were three of us, so it was a little tight with a trundle, but manageable. There is plenty of storage and the bathroom is a good size. The staff was the best part of being on the ship. Everyone was professional and pleasant. They worked very hard to make the cruise experience great. I would definitely go on this ship again. Port Reviews: Nassau is not my favorite port, mainly because there are always several ships docked and it is very busy. However, there is a variety of shore excursions to pick from and you can explore on your own. This time we did a walking tour of downtown and it was great. In addition to seeing all of the popular tourist sights, we found a few surprises along the way. Everyone we encountered was friendly (we stopped several people and asked for directions) and we felt safe, even in the non-touristy/rundown section we passed through. Half Moon Cay is the BEST beach ever! Totally perfect. We rented a cabana and it was worth every penny. Even if you don't have the money to get a cabana, you can find plenty of shade farther down the beach. This was my first time visiting Grand Turk and I can honestly say that it isn't one of my top favorite ports, but we had a good time and I would visit again. The people we encountered were very friendly, even though the area outside of the Cruise Center is very rundown. We rented a golf cart-it was very slow-and toured about half of the island. We stopped at a couple of beaches and then went to Jack's Shack for a late lunch. BEST fried grouper ever (and I am from Florida). Great food, drinks and people there. The dogs are the most polite beggars I have ever met. lol Read Less

We booked this 5 day cruise for the price and the ports. It was our 5 year anniversary and we decided on a cruise. Overall, it was "ok". We enjoyed the 3 ports (Nassau, Half Moon Cay & Turks) and our dune buggy excursion. There were too many children on the cruise, for my taste. The ship, on the other hand, needs some major updating and additional restaurants. We found the food to be bland. The burgers at Guy's burger joint were pretty good but you get tired of them after day 3. The deli, pizza and seaview buffett food was a "miss". We ate in the Ecstasy dining room and the food was "hit and miss". On a positive note, the staff were excellent...both the serving staff and the stewards. Very friendly, professional and helpful. I would suggest spending a few more dollars and booking a newer ship. We will cruise again but not on this ship. Read Less

Ship: The Sensation is a much older ship. However, this does not justify how dirty and run down it was. The decks needed refinishing, and the public areas were not cleaned or maintained well. As an example, the smoking section was filthy most of the cruise. Even early in the morning there would be plates, cups, and food sitting around (left over from the night before), and the ashtrays seemed to always be overflowing. Atmosphere: Overall, this is nothing short of a frat party, all day – every day. Beer being sold by the yard, guests drinking to excess, and pot being smoked in cabins and on the smoking deck. If you are an early riser looking for some quite time, note that the music will be banging on deck. Cabin: We stayed in a Veranda Suite. The room was badly maintained. The air conditioner did not work appropriately, the shower faucet handle fell off three times, the Kleenex box holder fell off the wall two times, the curtained were ripped in several locations, and the room was generally run down and tired looking. Dining: The buffet was hit or miss. The pizza station had good pizza, but just be prepared to wait in line. They also had a sandwich station, wherein you could order sandwiches made to order. Guy’s hamburger restaurant had great burgers and fries. We ate in the dining room one night, ordering the lobster. The service and our meal were very good. Note, that if you want lobster or steak, you will pay an additional $20.00 per person. Entertainment: we attended two shows, and both were very good. Service: I rated service poor, as service in the bars varied. It was normal to wait 15-20 minutes at the bar for a drink. If it were busy, the wait at the bar could be much longer. This may be attributed to running their bars short staffed. As for a waiter actually coming around and serving you, it may be much faster to go get your own drink. Read Less

If this is your first cruise, you MAY enjoy it. It being our 5-6th time, this was by far the worst. First time sailing with Carnival and might be the last. Trying to be optimistic and blaming it on this specific ship but we’ll see. We chose this cruise because it was going to the two island we were dying to see. Carnival SENSATION sailed to Nassau, Half Moon Cay, and Grand Turk on Sept. 1-5th. Ports were amazing just as imagined. However, the ship... geesh. Sensation was extremely outdated and rusty. TAKE CARE OF YOUR SHIPS CARNIVAL! Some of the couches in the lounges I was terrified to sit on. Looked dusty and old. While going to watch a show, for lack of better terms- the “mini drink table” connected to each individual seat, fell on my ankle! Like we weren’t having a ‘great’ time already! Oh best part, ready? THERE WAS ONE POOL. The staff - house keeping was amazing. We had Fredie in M26 and Dedy in R98. Both two amazing guys. The Dining Room staff was for the most part great! We had one guy who seemed to be having a bad day and taking it out on his tables. The Lido staff ( buffet area I believe) was nice, speedy, and polite. When we just boarded the ship we were a bit lost on where to go. There was at least 5 crew members surrounding us and not one stepped up to help. We are used to staff being extremely friendly and going above and beyond for cruisers. Food- having ice cream 24/7 was fantastic. Entertainment - Very limited. Those that did perform did great. Bingo host was awesome - BAM! Shore excursions - We did snorkeling in Grand Turk with the Chukka crew. Tito and Johnathan had a lot of patience, super fun, and great instructors! Best part of the trip!!!! Read Less

I will start off with saying that I did not chose the Carnival Sensation to sail- I was part of a large group. I have previously only sailed NCL ships and was very hesitant to sail this ship due to all the reviews. Overall, the ship is old and very outdated but let's be real people for the price you're paying. . . you are getting what you paid for in that department. We had a balcony room with no issues. The hallway did smell like sewer and there was a room in our party who had the smell in their room. Carnival should really do something about this! Our cabin was clean for the most part, it could have used a very good dusting however, clean. I had set my expectations low for dining due to the poor reviews and was surprised with the good meals I did get. Breakfast was typical breakfast food at the buffet or you could sit in the dining room. Lunch was not much to be desired and if you have the later dining time they close the buffet in the afternoon leaving you little to no snack options to hold you over. I have had worse meals and I have had better but I will say the Carnival lava type dessert was to DIE FOR! I have zero complaints about the service in either the buffet or dining room. The AC was not working in the buffet, which was kinda awful to come in from the pool and be just as hot. The entertainment on the ship was so-so. One comedian was great, the other not so much. The Cruise Director and staff were great entertainment. We traveled to Key West and Cozumel. Both ports were great. Our party did an excursion in Cozumel however not through Carnival. I also had a spa service while on the cruise. The spa manager was to put it nicely RUDE. The spa is placed under the mini golf so you hear people walking/running and a golf ball rolling around. A staff (not my masseuse) and fellow guest also walked in on me while I was getting undressed, I guess my masseuse did not change the outside of the door to "occupied." I didn't bother complaining due to my previous statement about the manager being rude. If you are looking for a cheap 4-day cruise to have fun and getaway this is for you! If you are looking for the 5-star cruise experience this isn't for you. Read Less

Embarkation was smooth as we were priority. we headed towards our room at about 1:30 and wallah, it was ready! Our cabin was spacious, our balcony has seen better days, some of the clothing drawers were broken. Buffet Food: disgusting. I don't understand how people piled their plates with the slop they served. I was getting some fruit one day and one of the workers took the serving spoon from my hand and told me the buffet is closed to go to the other side. i was dumbfounded. Sit down breakfast. Healthy choices and better than the buffet, great service but very slow. Guys Burger Joint: very good! they give you a burger and fries, you basically build your own burger with toppings. Burrito place: I had a shrimp burrito, no flavor. it would have been nice if they had guacamole, nope. sit down dinner: much better than the buffet offerings. service was OK. I had prime rib one night and they brought me a ham steak! it was disgusting. One night i ordered a decaf coffee, never saw it. They over cooked our steaks. the best part of our meal was the baked potato and steamed veggies each night. I did have the salmon twice and i must say it was good. Nassau, Bahamas. We did the private island beach break with lunch. it was beautiful. choice of lunch is limited to the day's specials. when we returned they dropped us off by street vendors. Very smart on their part... however, we didn't purchase anything. Half Moon Beach: Beautiful! clear water, soft sand. we skipped the buffet and ate on the ship. Turks & Caicos: Grand Turk looked beautiful from the ship. as soon as we got off the ship to go to the beach, the vendors started in. finally weaved our way to some beach chairs. plopped our stuff down and made our way to the water. here's where it got interesting, we had to make our way through sea weed. it was everywhere, along the shore and in the water. we navigated through the sea weed and made it to some rocks only to be attacked by fish! it was like a scene from Piranha. LOL serious! i think they were attracted to the colors on my swim suit. that was that, we got out of the water and headed towards Margaritaville; huge pool, lots of margaritas for purchase. lots of drunk folk. lots of unattended kids. Pool is 4 feet at the deepest point. We attended the Love and Marriage show, it was funny and i'm glad we went! My husband used the gym and he said it was great! We had perfect weather the entire trip. Read Less

However, this time we were very very disappointed.I am going to be direct and concise so I will make a list. 1. Back of the ship was rusting and overall the ship was poorly maintained. 2. The food is my biggest problem. 8 different types of dishes were served at dinner, lunch and of those 8 were meat! No taste, low quality food for guests that paid $400+ a trip which eating makes a big part of it. The burger place was meh. Burgers had no taste, fries were badly seasoned. The Peruvian guys working in were great though and would go an extra step to make us happy. 3. The Alcohol and Beverage package. Most cruises have open bar beverage packages or unlimited drinks. Carnival imposes a 5 min wait per drink and 15 maximum. How greedy can they be? Plus most alcohols were not grade. Beer was overpriced compared to Royal and Norweigan, drinks consisted of a single shot and mostly ice, ice and more ice. If you tell a bartender to put more alcohol they give you a disconcerting look and tell you no that's not allow. 4. The cards, the greatly annoying cruise cards! I paid for my father's drink beverage so the old man can drinks few water down mojitos. By the end of the night he still had 11 drinks left in his package. Me and my wife used ours so every time I tried to use my dad's cards, which I paid for and we have the same last name, they would treat me in such a manner and deny me drinks. This one bartender took the card checked the photo, slammed in front of my seat and ignored me while he went to another customer. Extremely rude! I have never been in a cruise that has such poor quality in both itinerary and service. The food was disgusting, the drinks were poorly made, the service was cold and rude at the bar areas and overall every chance they get Carnival tries to scam you in either extra chargers to your card or some weird excuse to make you pay. DO NOT RECOMMEND!! Read Less

My husband and I took this cruise to celebrate our Anniversary. We booked a balcony room and we were excited to go to a couple of islands we had not been to. Let me start by saying the staff and the excursions were amazing - no issues. The staff was very friendly and we had a great time in the ports of call. This review is based on the ship and our stateroom. The ship is old and in need of repairs and upgrades. We stayed on the Upper level and from Day 1 before we ever left port, our stateroom toilet had issues. Day 1 we attempted to flush the toilet and it didn't work....tried again, and finally after about a 10 minute delay it flushed. Day 2 our toilet worked great, no issues. Day 3, woke up to get ready to go to Half Moon Cay and my husband attempted to flush the toilet....nope, didn't work. Kind of bad when I had to get dressed to leave my stateroom so that I could go to another floor and find a public restroom to use. Asked the stateroom steward if there were issues and he stated there were issues and they were working on it. OK, great they are working on it. We leave and go to the island all day and come back and see that our toilet had been flushed so figured it was working. Well, we assumed WRONG! Nope, toilet didn't flush. At this point we went to Guest Services and the lady we spoke with didn't seem to care too much that our toilet didn't work. Didn't apologize and only said that a small section of the ship still had plumbing issues and they were still working on it. GREAT, more having to leave our rooms to find a public restroom. Sometime later in the evening on Day 3 the toilet worked. Our balcony glass was so filthy and dirty, it was very hard to see out of it. It looked like it had not been cleaned in a few months. The floor had not been vacuumed prior to our arriving and there was so much dust on the chair in the room and on the shelves. Luckily I travel with Clorox wipes and I wiped and cleaned all the hard surfaces in my stateroom. In the dining room they don't remove the unused wine glasses and water glasses from the people who just left the table. I watched several tables that had children that touched the glasses and ran their hands over the rims. No wonder people get sick on the ships. My husband and I got steak the first night and both were so tough you couldn't even cut it. They brought us another one and it wasn't much better. Stay away from the Flat Iron steak on the menu, unless you like to eat jerky. We were afraid to order the $20 upgrade steak, in case it would be the same way and we would waste money. This was not our first cruise and not our first with Carnival, but I'm afraid this will be our last with Carnival. Our Anniversary vacation was good and relaxing. We loved their island, Half Moon Cay. One of the best beaches and swimming spots we have ever been too. The sand was like powdered sugar and the water is so crystal clear, it's like being in a swimming pool. We loved the islands. Our issue is with the ship and the staterooms. Read Less

I chose this cruise for the price and to test the waters with my family. I have cruised previously on RC, with my mother and wanted to go with my own family. I should have went with RC. The Sensation is an older ship, but it wasn't as dirty as others have posted. Any of the food areas are a joke and if I never see another hamburger again, it will be too soon. There were some nights where my family and I were hungry because we honestly were tired of the food. (Didnt' have this problem on the RC) The cabins are extremely small and it was tight with three people (oceanview). The windows were dirty and it was hard to see outside when we reached port. The activities consisted of a lot of trivia and bingo. Other than that, you can drink! If you have children I DO NOT recommend this ship at all!!! (kids at any age) They will be bored! The service was great and everyone was friendly, but lets be honest, that's what they are paid to do and be! The ports were great, but my family and I went off the beaten path. You will find yourself having to make your own fun! When we arrived in Turks, there was a strong foul odor as the ocean (if that's what you can call it) was filthy dirty. My family and I went to Margaritaville instead and went to the pool. I honestly knew that I would not sail on this ship again before the end of my first day. (it was that chaotic coming onboard) My son literally stayed in the room one day and just watched television as he was that bored and said that the kids club was no better. Read Less

If you are thinking of travelling on Carnival Sensation please DONT If you are thinking of booking any Carnival ship please be aware if you encounter any problems your concerns will be ignored. I have waited several weeks to post my review to give Carnival customer services time to redeem themselves. But they have not. My advice is please think before spending your hard earned money booking a cruise on this ship as it may be memorable for all the wrong reasons. This is the first time in 20 years of cruising I have felt the need to complain. On sailing we reported smoking on a nearby balcony (it appeared to be Marijuana) to our steward who said it would be reported immediately as this was very serious (it was not) We raised a security issue with regard to a group of minors on our deck, on more than one occasion some of the children in the group appeared intoxicated. So had either brought alcohol onboard or were being served by staff despite being clearly underage to drink. If security officers were visible this may have curtailed their behaviour. Other issues were the state of the cabin the bed was uncomfortable with bedding that was stained and smelt of others peoples sweat, we had to wrap pillows in towels to try to use them. The back of the boat smells constantly of sewage. The toilets do not always empty on the initial flush, sometimes taking several seconds even up to a few minutes before emptying. One day the toilets did not work at all, we could not use the bathroom to shower as other people’s sewage had backfilled up to the brim of the bowl and the smell may us gag. We were advised to use public restrooms but these also had toilet bowls full of sewage so we had to wait until we left the ship. To keep this boat sailing with continuing inadequate toilet systems must be contravening all health and safety legislation and putting passengers at risk of serious illness. Most hand sanitisers onboard are also empty and did not appear to be refilled throughout the whole 5 night voyage We complained on board and were treated with complete disdain and rudeness by guest service staff. I sent an e-mail to Carnival and only then were we called to a meeting with guest services We met with Carol-Anne and several very pleasant officers (I assumed looking at other reviews since leaving the ship that Carol-Anne is busy with these meetings on a regular basis). We were advised that our cabin steward had a duty to inform his superiors when smoking especially if it is alleged to be Marijuana on board is reported to him and that Carnival in turn must report this to the federal authorities. As the smoking continued every night until we docked I assume this did not happen even after our meeting. With regard to the toilets we were advised “it’s a problem very occasionally and possibly it was a passenger putting things into the bowls” but as we (and Carnival) are fully aware from looking at complaints this ship has had for many months and continues to have problems with the sewage disposal system onboard To sum up this ship should not be in service it is a health hazard and the fact that Carnival has not had a mass outbreak of illness on board is down to luck not good management. The ship is dirty with staff that do not seem to care. The only people we encountered that were polite and friendly were the ladies in the anytime dining restaurant.. All other staff seem to treat the passengers as an inconvenience. I actually feel very sorry for them at least we could escape after 5 days but they have to deal with ongoing complaints on every sailing and live onboard this outdated ship. We were offered a derisory 15% discount off a future cruise but I would not sail with Carnival ever again so this is rendered useless.I sent my comments to Mr Arnold Donald’s e-mail address and received this reply “ Thank you for following up with Mr. Donald regarding your recent cruise experience. He has shared your letter with me and asked that I respond on his behalf.” So apparently Mr Donald is aware of all the problems on board the Sensation and is still happy to take bookings for the foreseeable future. July 30-August 4, 2018...I decided to take my son on a cruise the week before he went off to college. We were so EXCITED. I had cruised before, but he had never. The boarding of the ship took less that 15 minutes, so I thought wow this will be great. HOWEVER...We got to our cabin and the toilet was dirty. We called the cabin steward. He and the supervisor came and began cleaning the bathroom. I begin filming. The supervisor said, "We are cleaning please do not film." I replied it should have been cleaned before we arrived. Then, they went to flush the toilet and realized...there was no water in it. So, they called a plumber. He fixed it. The next morning, again there was no water. So, we waited for the plumber. An hour later, he fixed the toilet. We returned later that evening and again, there was no water, so we had to use the public restroom. Finally, he returned and fixed it again. The next day we went on our excursion which was a disaster as well, but we got over it. Only to return to our cabin and the carpet was completely wet....The toilet had leaked. So, the plumber came again. The next morning, we left to shore and when we returned we were not able to get into our cabin. The Steward tried and neither was he. Thirty minutes later, someone came and said the batteries had shorted out and they have to remove the digital panel to reset it. This took another 30 minutes to fix. We went on our way to try to enjoy ourselves while we waited. We returned and THE TOILET was not working. So, for all of our troubles, we received a dink coupon and $50 cabin credit...Are you serious!! Let's not talk about the food.....Previously on a cruise the captain's dinner was the best night...NOW YOU HAVE TO PAY an additional $20 if you want anything special. This was my son's first cruise and supposedly our time together before he leaves. It was Horrible. Horrible Horrible. Each time I had to go to guest services and wait in line for an hour or more. They have 2600 people on board and 2 people working guest services. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE.....The ship was old, the windows in our ocean view were so dirty we could not see out of them. Some of the railings on deck were taped with blue caution tape. This is a horrible ship. UGH! Read Less

I had every one doing their check in online , definitely recommend ,which help with the transition. For disabled assistance, the check in was fast too. I had requested wheel chair assistant for my parents ahead of time. We had 4 children during the trip, they loved the water slides, golf courts area, arcade, pool & the children clubs, recommend online registration for kids activities. This ship is one of the old one from carnival. Very simple, not much entertainment and activities onboard. Dance club not much options; DJ sucs no variety in music selection. Cabins were simple, small and some structures deteriorated. We had ocean view and inside cabins. The worst room service take long to bring your request. All shore excursions were bought at ports, cheaper.Yes will go again. Read Less

And the free water and lemonade was too far away to walk back and forth! The food could have been better on the cruise, no variety same food everyday! Orlando and Deon were great entertainment! But overall the trip was nothing to brag about! Oh and Naussau was much better. We ordered more room service than anything! I don’t want to see another hamburger! Because that’s mainly what I ate because they didn’t have a good variety of food! The staff was friendly! Oh the sit down dinner at night was terrible. It took over 40 mins for our food to arrive and then my food was not seasoned at all! Then they charged my husband $25 gratuity and he didn’t even go to dinner! Read Less

The only thing that would have made this cruise better was more shows!! I couldn’t get enough of the shows! I recently sailed on the Carnival Sensation from 07/07/18 - 07/12/18. Upon boarding the ship there was a very strong sewage smell. We initially thought it was the ship emptying their tanks, however as the cruise progressed the smell continued. At that time I chose to not let it affect my vacation, while annoying I wanted to have fun. My cousin was getting married on the ship. On day 3 my husband and I realized we were showing in brown water. I immediately stood in line at Guest Services. I was offered an apology and a plumber promptly came to our room to resolve. He ran the water and it was clear for one minute, then turned brown again. I went back down to guest services where I was offered a steak/lobster dinner for my troubles. I said I was not satisfied with that, that I wanted a credit. I was told an investigation would be opened and someone would get back to me. On the next day, no one got back to me so I stopped at guest services and was told a plumber would be to my room, someone came again and said it was all fixed. But while he was standing in our bathroom we filled the tub and my husband asked him if he would shower in that, he said no sir and said he would let Guest Services know. At this point I went down to Guest Services again and was told I needed to speak with Connie. After another visit to Guest Services (4th time now), Connie and I talked, she offered me $150 credit (I paid over $4,200) for this cruise and she would reimburse me for $100 of charges already on my room. I was told this was the most they could offer from on the ship. I said no ma'am that wasn't good enough. It was a slap in the face for Carnival to tell me they couldn't fix the problem and Connie's response to me is that "Corporate was being stingy with offering any credits on this cruise despite the sewage leak". So it was confirmed there was a sewage leak and I was showering in brown water. How did I know that I was not showering in sewage? I don't!! And I wish I would have thought to take a sample. On Day 4 after 5 visits to Guest Services we finally saw Carol-Anne or Carol-Lee, I can't remember her full name. Carol saw the discoloration in the water and immediately apologized, offered an onboard credit of $150 per person and 25% off our next cruise. My husband promptly told her that given the lack of customer care we were provided with and the fact that Carnival was finding it acceptable that we showered and brushed our teeth in brown water, we would never been returning. As a side note, as soon as we discovered the brown water, we were all forced to brush our teeth with bottled water. I told Carol I would settle for nothing less that half our cruise fare returned to us. In the end we received $900, to which I indicated to Carol that was not enough and she said that is all she could offer on the ship. Remember earlier that I was told I could only be offered a total of $250, but now I am being given $900. Carol told me to contact Corporate when I got off the ship. I have since called Corporate, sent a message on facebook and an email. Today I received a return call from Vanessa, she was professional as she could be, but told me she didn't have a manager that I could speak with, that I was speaking with the person that she needed to speak to. She refused to provide me a Manager's name to speak with. This is terrible customer service. When someone asks to speak with your manager, you provide your manager's name. After filing this complaint, I will be contacting the EPA and Department of Health. Carnival you have failed me in the respect that you find it completely acceptable to allow your guests to spend 5 days with a sewage leak on your ship that could have potentially contaminated your water supply. I am requesting a refund of $2,100 which was half my cruise fare. Read Less

This is my third cruise, the second with my family. After being on all three line, royal Caribbean, norwegian, and then carnival, I have come to enjoy cruise vacations for their service, food, activities and amentities. For the past five days, guests aboard the carnival sensation were trapped in what I would call a torture vessel due to a ruptured septic system. While i am giving this cruise a poor rating, I will admit what i believe to be the good parts of this vacation For starters, Orlando our cruise director was charasmatic, energetic, and overall a superb cruise director. In my past cruises, i paid no attention to the cruise directors, however Orlando was successful in creating a fun enviornment for guests of all ages. I tip my hat to him for doing his job the best he could with the situation on the ship. The activities were ok, not great. The comedians gave us some laughs, but dont expect your sides to split. The shows had some very talented singers as well. At port, the towns were a lot of fun. We went to Nassau, Half Moon Cay, then Grand Turk. One major thing that annoyed me was the guy who ran the bingo games. He was severely annoying to the point that made my bingo experience tragic. The food did not blow me away, but it did not make me sick like my past two cruises have. So I cant be upset with that. I will approve of the quality of the food, diversity of options and quantity available throughout the nights. Guys burger bar was delicious but i do have to complain about the service I noticed. There is a menu next to the line with various choices of burgers. Any time I would ask them to make me one, I was ordered by the staff behind the counter to go to the self service bar and make it myself. What I find so ridiculous is that they have these toppings behind the counter in front of them. God forbid they put a slice of tomato on my burger when I ask, perhaps the ship may have sank. I did not eat at the blue iguana, however my family gave it good reviews. As for the restaurants, there was never a long wait for lines, and there were always interesting choices. Service was good and it was fun to watch them dance. Now it is time for my real critiques of this boat. Id like to start off by acknowledging the rancid smell of feces and gas that was present throughout the whole ship. When I first walked into my room, it was as if Mike Tyson had punched me in the face with a dirty sewage rag. My poor parents had to fight for their lives in order to make it to guest services to complain about it as the smell only got worse as you made your way through the boat. Thankfully, guest services were recpetive to our complaints and had reimbursed us some money. In the past three trips i’ve been on, i’ve never been subject to such a stench because of the carelessness of ship management. I feel bad for the next group of people who stay on that boat. Be prepared with industrial amounts of febreeze, gas masks, and a hazmat suit for good measure The overall cleanliness of the boat was about the same of your county jail. Stained sheets, dirty glass and silverware, you name it. I noticed the grime on the walls of my room, and on the last day we noticed someone blew their nose into the curtain of our room. The sinks were slightly rusted, but nothing to serious. The floor of our bathroom was caving in, i probably could have fell right through if the boat hit a big wave while I was in the shower. All in all, my family and I had a good time. The reason being is because we kept making jokes about how bad the amentities were on the boat. I suggest you take a cruise in a row boat to Nassau rather than the sensation because you will not be subject to the smell of pure anus. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the reasonable price, and we knew that the ship was a bit outdated, but that didn't deter us. We loved all of the activities that were going on,and there was always a good selection of things to do. Our favorite person on the ship was Phillip aka "Sassy"! He was working the Trivia, and I absolutely love how infectious his personality was, and he is such a sweetheart! Our Cruise Director was Orlando, and he was really funny, and was good at keeping people laughing! Deon was great, and boy, that guy can sing! I loved what he says "Always give a little piece of your heart to everyone you meet". Between Phillip, Orlando, and Deon, they all made our first carnival cruise SENSATIONAL! There was a good selection of food, I thought the food at the Dining Centers were good, but the Lido Deck (Seaview Buffet) was kind of hit and miss. I liked the Blue Iguana Restaurant the best. All of the shows were fantastic! If you get a chance, become a VIP at the 70's show, it's so fun and well worth it! You'll get to go on stage and dance, and get to meet the cast at VIP Party the next night! Read Less

I wanted to have one last huge vacation with my kids as my oldest heads off to college in the fall. A cruise to the Carribean sounded fun as we all like the beach, and it was an area we hadn't been, and further, my girls had never been out of the country. We booked this through a travel agent, so all those details were taken care of through someone else. I did a lot of research on the ports and the ship itself once I got my itenerary so I would be able to make good decisions on excursions, etc. I wound up throwing it all out the window and going with what I found on here and with some information gathered out of Trip Advisor. The excursions listed through Carnival and my travel company were horrifically expensive, and as I'm working on my teacher's salary and my income tax refund, I was trying to stick to a budget. The embarkation was.....interesting. I purchased transportation from the airport to the dock, and apparently they were backed up. Some people complained they had been there since 8am (it was around 11:30 or so when we got off our flight) and the man from Carnival directing it was rude. Told us all to come on, so all 35 of us started to move, he then told over half of us to go back and sit down. He then took the people that had just walked up forcing the people that had been waiting for hours to keep waiting. It was a little like a circus. Or carnival? Once actually on the ship, it wasn't bad. We had to wait around until close to 3 to actually get into our room. Our room was better than I expected. Very clean, roomier than I expected, beds were great. Only one outlet though, and the shower temperatures were set in Celcius so that took some getting used to. The dining room was excellent. The wait staff was beyond reproach. The food was really good, although sometimes the selections were not to our liking. It didn't matter, because we could always go grab something later elsewhere. We never saw our housekeeping staff, so as far as gratuities there, the minimum was all I'd give. I wish I could've given more to the wait staff. I traveled with a 12 year old and an 18 year old. My 12 year old had a blast with Circle C club, the pool, slides, and goofy golf. My oldest? Absolutely nothing for her to do. Too old for the kids clubs, too young for all the other stuff, plus I don't gamble, and am not a big drinker. She got bored really quick. We're not into shopping either. You couldn't always hear the daily announcements, so we missed a lot of things. The daily guides can be hard to follow since they don't really tell you how long things last, you kind of have to guess. You have to be prepared to WALK. Most of these ports are a LOOOOOOONG way from the ship. And the elevators have their own agenda, so you take the stairs a lot. Nassau was one port that was about a good 5 or more minute walk from the ship. Look for the free bus at the dock!!! It will take you to town and back. Where I was most disappointed was in the 'hidden language' that wasn't explained clearly by either Carnival, or my travel agent. You won't really need much spending money (cash) on you for this. Some for the ports for gifts and whatnot, or food/drinks, but there is absolutely NO cash on the boat. Your ship & sail card is your cash. It works like a credit card. Everything on the ship- food, soda, alcohol, Bingo tickets, purchases in the stores, everything, gets put on the ship and sail card. At the end of the trip they cash out your purchases onto whatever credit card you gave them at the beginning. This was not properly, nor clearly explained to me beforehand, so I thought that I would only pay for our souvenirs off the boat and the mandatory gratuities. Nope. $330 later.......which included the mandatory gratuity, three coffees, three purchases from the Cherry on Top store, two runs in the arcade (that doesn't even take coins!!!) and a trip to the medical center for aloe which didn't clear TSA like we were told it would, I was frantically transferring money on the day we returned to Miami. Half Moon Cay is owned by Carnival, so they only take your ship and sail card there as well. Didn't know that either. Disembarkation was pretty smooth. They apparently changed their process, and were calling individual floors down, and you could put your bags out the night before to be checked, or get numbered tags if you want your bags checked. But everyone kind of went together so I'm not sure how this saved time. Perhaps someone who has been cruising for years could weigh in. I might cruise again. Maybe with another adult. I'd like to try a bigger ship next time. It was fun, an experience, glad I did it and especially glad I did it when my kids were old enough to appreciate it. Read Less

Let me start by saying we picked this trip for our Anniversary based on the cost to get away for a few days as we have a trip to Europe planned next month. We flew into Miami the morning of departure, which I do not recommend. Due to weather up north, we weren't sure we would get out. We ended up getting out fine. Took a Lyft from Miami Airport to the cruise terminal. Definitely do this as it's the cheapest option (approx. $18 each way). Embarkation were extremely smooth. We were on the boat within 15 mins of arriving! They now have portable kiosks setup and the Carnival Representative just scans your boarding pass and passport. As easy as that! The sail and sign cards are available in your room mailbox when you arrive. I thought at first this was a safety concern, but they stress if the envelope has been tampered with, go to guest services and they'll take care of everything. As the rooms were not available until 1:30 PM, your printed boarding pass acts as your sail and sign card and already has your unlimited drinks package added to it! We reserved a porthole room on the 7th deck towards the front. As this is an older ship, you can feel the movement a bit more, but I would definitely recommend a room at the very front or very back as the hallways tend to be a bit noisy. Our room steward, Dewa was great! He knocked on our door to talk as we were getting settled in and had us fill out a survey for when we wanted our room done up. This was very new to me as I was used to having the room made up in the morning or evening. You CAN select both. As I know how hard these stewards work, I elected for AM only to make his job a bit easier. We brought a bottle of champagne from our honeymoon to drink on our anniversary and Dewa made sure he put it in a bucket of ice for us so it was chilled. He also presented us with a gift card to the spa to use. I know this was from Carnival, but he had a nice written note to accompany it. The food was pretty good most nights. I opted for the $20 upgrade to the surf and turf on the last night, which was worth it. Our waiter, I Made, was fantastic. The entertainment was meh. We did not enjoy the singing/dancing on the first night, so we skipped it the rest of the cruise and opted for the comedy club, which was pretty good most nights. Some nights bombed, others were hilarious. Roland, the guitar player in the atrium was the highlight. He was fantastic. We loved sitting at the bar and listening to him. The bartenders were great for the most part. Tamara in the atrium bar and Budimir in the casino were highlights. Top notch service and they were extremely personable. Can't say enough about the Cruise Director and his staff. This was my 14th cruise and Orlando was one of the best. Deion was a fantastic addition to his staff and always had us cracking up. While we did have a hiccup with one of the casino dealers one night, we got an apology from the pit boss the next day and we were there every night. Most dealers just wanted everyone to have fun! Al Glenn, Marcos, and Errol deserve special recognition here. As for the ports, Nassau was great just to talk around. We did some research and went to Pirate Republic Brewing, which I can't recommend enough. Only craft brewery in the Bahamas. Beer was great and staff was friendly. After, we walked around the straw market (didn't get harassed as much as we thought we would). We really enjoyed the woodcarving section and bought a turtle. Definitely barter! We spent the rest of the day at an "Island Dive Bar" called The Bearded Clam to watch the World Cup. Food was good, drinks were great, and the staff was friendly. Due to rough waters not allowing safe tendering, Half Moon Cay was cancelled for us and we enjoyed another Sea Day. The Cruise Director Staff tried to add some entertainment for us, including discounted Bingo and trivia, but it was mostly just a relaxing day. Disappointing, but you have to understand safety first. We did an independent excursion in Gran Turk through Exclusive Escapes and can't say enough. We did a snorkel, conch dive, and stingray interaction trip and it was amazing. The drop they take you to to see the reefs was breathtaking and getting to swim with the stingrays was great. USE THIS VENDOR. The owner's were incredibly kind and the crew was great! Before you book this cruise, take it for what it is. It's an inexpensive cruise on an old ship. Just have fun instead of nitpicking everything! The clientele was different than what I have seen on RCL, Princess, and other Carnival ships, but everyone was friendly and just looking to have a good time! Just note that people may not dress how you've seen in the past. Read Less
