We booked the Sensation without reading reviews as we general have not worried about that. After booking I decided to check out details on the book and reviews. Let's just say, the reviews did not make me excited to go and made me worry about how the cruise would go. First off, our experience was the complete opposite of the negative reviews. Yes, the ship is older but the crew was always, always cleaning it. There was never a moment that the ship felt dirty! Way to go crew! Yes, the ship had an older smell to it but older house have a smell too - this is very, very minor! The water did have a smell at times but nothing that ruined our fun. ALL of the crew, ALL, was amazing, friendly, kind!!! Not once did we encounter a rude crew member! Every single one of them were there to help! Plenty of things to do, plenty! Shows were awesome, comedy family show as great! So much to do we didn't get to enjoy everything! Music was on point and great! There were times on the Lido deck that the bars got busy and people were having a little too much fun but we just enjoyed other areas of the ship during that time, no biggie! It is a smaller ship but plenty of space to go to other areas and enjoy!! Because it is a smaller ship you do feel more then the bigger ships, the first day was very rough but this is by no means the ship's fault - it's mother nature and this is not to be held against Carnival. The pool was nice, two hot tubs by the pool and one in the adult only area - only during one day was the pool busy, but hey that is what it is there for. I feel like people are complaining about things that shouldn't even matter. Awesome experience, would book this ship again. The cruise director is amazing and did an awesome job! We are not fantasy people - this cruise was perfect for us. Great for the money! If you want to be whined and dined and want a five star fantasy ship and treatment, then book elsewhere, this ship is for those who want to go on vacation, have not worries, and just want to relax and have a good time because that is just what we did! Thank you Carnival Sensation! Read Less

So first and foremost the ship is not consistent with customer service. There are a few that went above and beyond but if you say hi to most people they are not friendly. Why do I have to wait in line at a buffet. Royal has many buffets and don’t feel that I would have to wait. I mean specialty shops guys blue iguana I can understand the wait. Pizza took forever just make em they will go. Ice cream 24 hours loved it. I’m relaxed watching the sunset and I’m told I have to move because they are about to clean. I’m sorry I was in your way. The men’s bathroom around the ship had mostly only one stall. The cruise director Orlando and Heidi ho Dion were magnificent. I met Keasha accidentally loved her. We had a waiter one night, first night Dennis who was outstanding. He was just covering for one night. The rest of the cruise we had a dud but the helpers were amazing. Overall this is my first and my last Carnival ship. They prey to much on the party ship but not the customer service piece. Oh the activities were great but they had this comedian that should just retire. He was horrible. Also Loved Loved Carnival Quest. Read Less

I have been on five previous cruises, all with Carnival. I have travelled on the Fantasy class and several other ships in larger classes. Let's just say that if you don't enjoy a cruise, you have no one to blame but yourself! The value you receive for what you pay is great! My husband and I cruised out of Miami which was a first for us. The port was extremely organized. I believe Carnival has made some changes to their embarkation process which was very efficient. We were checked in and waiting to board within minutes of arriving at the port. Our cabin steward was the best we ever had on a carnival cruise. The ships in the Fantasy class do not have hairdryers in the rooms and I didn't bring mine so our steward made sure I had one within minutes of the request. Also, he knew I liked ice in my room for my soda and he made sure that I had a fresh bucket once a day, if not twice! I have stayed in many different cabin classes on ships too. I wanted an inexpensive vacation this time and decided to stay on the Riviera Deck (4) with an ocean view, mid ship. The cabin was very clean and we didn't have any trouble with noise in the halls. I think that the food was the best I've ever had on a cruise. Of course Guy's burgers and fries was as great as usual. The tacos were amazing! Fresh tortillas were made in front of you with either shrimp, chicken, beef, or pork! The dining room food was also great. I highly recommend the ceasar salad because the dressing is made from scratch. The chocolate melting cake never disappoints. Also, the vegetarian lasagna was fantastic! French onion soup was very good too. We've been to Nassau before and the weather wasn't so warm that day so we decided to stay near port and shop. Our next stop was Half Moon Cay which is a private island owned by Carnival and I believe, Holland America. I was somewhat unsure of what to expect but was pleasantly surprised! You have to take a tinder boat to the dock but that wasn't an issue. We were the only ship that day and had the entire beach for just our ship. Carnival also provided lunch at a pavilion which included jerk chicken, hamburgers, salads, fruit, cookies, etc. It is somewhat of a walk to the "Bar-B-Que" but there is a shuttle should you need one. The island is beautiful! The comedians were funny and the shows were enjoyable. I probably won't take another cruise on the Fantasy class but not because they aren't great. It is just because I prefer the larger ships because I think the ride is smoother. Read Less

After reading the reviews i was a little nervous to go on this cruise with my family as i planned everything and did not want to disappoint anyone for our first time cruise. IT was amazing! It was not super fancy a little old but that was perfect for us, it was very clean, service was great no complaints at all. Crew always happy and greeting you Orlando very funny and friendly,Bujan our stateroom steward very nice always happy, smiling and our room clean with fresh towels and we loved the animal towels on our bed. Food and drinks were great there was so much to pick from we never ate in the dinning room. Entertainment was also good we went to a family friendly comedy show, juggling act my kids thought that was fantastic the girls made carnival build a bears that was fun and a great keep sake. Islands were very nice did the shallow water excursion with the dolphins in Atlantis that was another amazing thing. Half moon cay was our favourite beautiful and very relaxing. Grand turk was nice a little busy did some shopping and went back on the ship girls wanted to hang out at the water slide. Read Less

My January, 2018 cruise aboard Sensation was the worst cruise I have had to date. The problems began at embarkation. Even though we had FTTF, we had to wait at the terminal over 2 HOURS to board. I can't imagine how long we would have had to wait if we had not had FTTF and got "priority boarding." Once aboard I was immediately struck by how shockingly dated the decor is on board. It screams 1970s and 1980s. I ended up getting used to it by the end of the cruise, but it was very jarring for the first couple of days. I felt like I had stepped into a time machine. There also was some cosmetic wear and tear on the ship, such as visible rust. Our interior cabin was horrible. Even though we were a party of 2, they put us in a cabin with 2 bunk beds. When closed, the top bunks overhang the bed and my husband and I both bumped our heads several times. Rather than a piece of artwork, there was a curtain over a "fake" window (nothing behind it but plastic wall). Who do they think they are fooling? I'd rather have the artwork. The room was extremely small and cramped and there was NO refrigerator. That was a big deal to us. We had to constantly have our steward refill our ice bucket - which wasn't big enough for the drinks we had pre-purchased to have delivered to our cabin. The shower water temperature and pressure were very good. The worst incident that occurred was when I was injured in one of the lounges. The lounge had tables with glass tabletops that were NOT secured to the table legs. I was drinking water all night - no alcohol - and slightly leaned on the table to stand up because I have osteoarthritis (and have never had a problem before doing this.) Due to the defect of these tabletops not being attached to the legs, it slid off and shattered, injuring my foot which was bleeding profusely. My foot had been stabbed by broken glass in many different places. But that wasn't even the worst part. The worst part was the horrible customer service I received at Guest Services when I reported the incident. I was told point blank it was "not Carnival's fault," rather than the "we are so sorry this happened to you" I should have received. There was no empathy or express of concern whatsoever. As for whose "fault" it was - that should have been up to a manager - not a low level customer service agent, and he should have gotten a manager to speak with me. The defective furniture was the reason this happened, which I think clearly makes it the fault of Carnival - but regardless, they should have at least not been rude in response to my injury! This was the first cruise where we had to wait to be seated for dinner (my time dining.) Then, once seated, service was extremely slow and the food was lukewarm instead of hot when it got to us. What made all this worse was the lack of dining options aboard for dinner. The best alternatives - Blueiguana and Guy's Burgers, closed early so we could not eat dinner there! The Serenity deck was a joke. People who clearly appeared to be under 18 were allowed to stay, one of the jacuzzis and a third of the deck were closed, and it was completely packed and noisy most of the time. There was nothing "serene" about it. The entertainment did not appeal to us at all. It was mostly game shows, expensive bingo, kids events, and other things that didn't interest us at all. The production show we went to was okay, but no where near as good as the production shows we'd seen on other ships - even other Carnival ships. One of the comedians was surprisingly good though, and I usually don't like comedians. The rest of the trip went a little better, but I still left the ship determined never to sail on Sensation again and planning to still go on the future Carnival sailing I already had booked but not planning on booking any more. I do not recommend this ship to anyone unless they like terrible cabins, poor customer service, injuries, and lots of waiting around at the terminal. Read Less

I am not much of a detailed review writer, but my best recommendation of this ship is that I would go back on it in a heartbeat. Loved the band 6 of a Kind, probably one of the best I have seen on a ship. They played most nights and usually 4 sets of 45 minutes and returned after a 15 minute break. Main shows very good too. Food was EXCELLENT. Service was attentive. Many of the crew learned and used our names. We were invited to a food tasting in the kitchen. It was very clean and orderly. Wish they had a big movie screen outside but none of the Fantasy class do. They did show one movie in the main show lounge we went too. There are 4 hot tubs, 2 in serenity. They are kind of small, probably fit 8 - 10 max, but we were able to get in one when we wanted to more often than not. Did notice they had someone watching the pool most hours. Did not allow jumping in, that sort of thing. That is new. Nice gym, very clean. Casino kind of small. Everything is between decks 7 and 10, so we did not even bother with the elevators. Have been on 17 cruises, 13 with Carnival so definitely have some basis for comparison. Bottomline, i loved it! Read Less

Everyone is looking for something different in a vacation. I like a good return on my financial investment, and for that reason, I give our cruise 5 stars. The seas were terrible the first night and our first port of Princess Cays was cancelled due to weather, which was cold and cloudy most of the trip. But you know what? Those things can happen. We would not go on cruises if we were not prepared for this. The cruise contract very clearly states ports can change, and this has happened to me before on other lines, and we still had a great time. I normally don't get seasick, but I do bring Bonine just in case, which I did need. Just part of the reality of cruising, which is not for everyone. This ship is not for people who avoid shopping at Walmart due to the crowds of regular people, because they are exactly who you will encounter on this ship. You see, those people are me and mine, so we're perfectly at home. There are plenty of much more expensive and exclusive cruises available for fancy people. The décor is bright and crazy looking like an old Vegas casino, dominated by not one but two shades of purple. The two shades actually kind of clash with each other and are often found together. I think this is the reason why so many people belly ache about the decor. Now the fact is, I like color but would never put this on my walls at home, so it's a nice chance to enjoy the fun of a fun, garish atmosphere. The pool and waterslides were closed much of this cruise due to cold temps and high winds. At one point we faced 54 knot headwinds! I would have liked to get a little sun but it was just not to be. On the other hand, back home my friends and relatives were enjoying several consecutive days of sub-zero weather to my '50's. There was plenty to keep us entertained regardless. We enjoy the goofy activities onboard. We watched 88 Keys, the big song and dance routine with a piano theme, on our second night. I see some people don't like the Playlist Productions shows, but we thought it was fabulous, as was Studio VIP with its disco theme on the last night of the cruise. Similar to the shows we enjoyed on Carnival Triumph on our March 2017 cruise. To partially compensate for missing Princess Cays, we went into Nassau early with an overnight. The next morning, we paid a taxi driver to take us to Fort Charlotte and back to the port. My husband really enjoyed the fort and could easily have spent a few hours here. On so called elegant night, we saw everything from the occasional tuxedo / evening gown couple to the family in jeans and hoodies in the main dining room. We were somewhere in between. I really hate dressing up, so this, too, was fine with us though I realize it would drive a lot of more refined humans completely up the wall. We had about 5 of our meals in the dining room, and the rest in the buffet, Guy's, Blue Iguana, the deli, or the Pizza Pirate. It was just quicker and easier for us, and seemed to fit our oddball schedules better than the dining room. We usually did this at off times so there was little wait. We were all very, very satisfied with the food. No, we did not get any lobster - that is a bit of a joke as a lot of cruisers complain that free lobster is no longer included on cruises of this caliber. Yes, 3 of us got the filet mignon at Sea Day brunch, which is a bit of a cruise hack, since filet is also no longer included for dinner (both are available for a $20 upcharge) but it is included at no additional charge during Sea Day brunch in the dining room. The last morning we were off the ship and at the car at 6:44 am, and in the tunnel from the port into Miami at 6:58. This was due to us having Faster to the Fun, which also saved me quite a bit of time the 3 or so times I went to Guest Services. We will probably always get this, but the upcharge is not worth it for everyone. In summary, with the rocky conditions the first night, we were off to a bad start and I was feeling very disappointed with the cruise, but by the end we were all completely happy. It never got very warm, but the bright thing up in the sky did come out briefly here and there. I have pics of adults on the Serenity deck chairs in parkas and wrapped up in towels in full sunshine. The main pool occasionally opened but hardly anyone got in it, choosing to cram into the little hot tubs instead. I suppose these conditions infuriated some people, but I find every travel experience to be interesting and have learned to expect the unexpected and roll with it. We will absolutely continue to cruise with Carnival. I would consider the Fantasy class ships again. They are not perfect, and they do feel crowded when the ship is full as with this sailing, but we still had a really wonderful time. Read Less
