we just got back from sailing on the Viking Ra which leaves/ returns from/ to Luxor, Egypt and has additional days in Cairo for touring. This was our first Viking cruise and we were very favorably impressed with the ship, food and tour guides. I highly recommend this cruise for Americans who want to see the famous temples and pyramids in Egypt!! our tours included entering into a Pyramid tomb, ...
We decided that we wanted to experience Egypt in terms of seeing the sites around Cairo, including the Giza plateau, and then see the temples along the Nile. We selected Viking due to the itinerary offered and the quality of the ship’s accommodations. We were not disappointed. The hotels we stayed at in Cairo , the Sheraton and the Intercontinental, were superb accommodations. The tours of the ...
We chose the cruise because we were interested in the history of Egypt and especially the times of the Pharaohs.
The entire package was 11 days with 7 of the days aboard the Viking Ra; a small river craft with an excellent crew.
We enjoyed the briefings from the two Egyptologists on board as well as their daily guiding experiences. The chef on board the Ra was excellent as was the dining ...
We started this cruise in Cairo and stayed at the Sheraton. It was a great hotel well located, the rooms were beautiful . The breakfast buffet was enormous and had everything you could have wanted. The tours in Cairo were great the museum and of course the Pyramids were outstanding mainly due to our fantastic Egyptologist. We then flew to Luxor to start our cruise. We were on a small boat of only ...
Our room had black mold in the bathroom area.this gave us respiratory issues for the entire cruise. The food was average at best. We had lamb chops that literally were not edible. The breakfast sausage sucked. No bacon. What the heck is beef bacon???
Got Nickle and dimed for ridiculous things like soda and fruit juice. Wine was cheap.
Tours were redundant.
Never saw or met our ...
We appreciate you sharing your experience, 1Grantcouple, although it is regrettable to hear of your disappointment. We’ve taken note of your feedback however we'd appreciate the opportunity...
While there are many lines that provide cruises down the Nile, we chose Viking because we had previous experience with them, and knew they were experts in leading small groups with great experiences. We were not disappointed! This cruise surpassed all our expectations. Within minutes after landing in Cairo, the Viking airport rep was waiting for us, clearly marked with her Viking sign, and from ...
My sister and I really wanted to see the wonders of Egypt first hand. By choosing a Viking cruise, we knew that we didn't have to worry about not being able to read or speak the language. A Viking representative collected us at the airport and walked us through getting the Egyptian visa. (Hint - don't even bother with trying to use the Egyptian electronic visa website. It took minutes to get ...
I wanted to see all the history in Egypt plus an extension to Petra in Jordan. I was somewhat disappointed with this Viking cruise in that it seemed to be rush, rush, rush. We landed in Cairo and spent 3 days in a hotel. Then we flew to Luxor to board our ship. We flew on an excursion to Aswan. We flew back to Cairo. There was a lot of unpacking and repacking.
Also, the service was a bit ...
This replaced 2 July 2022 Russian river cruises. The learning of the history and current status of Eqypt was superb. It's not a place to go on your own....amazingly educated guides. They prepped us for all events, the when-were-how to get ready and how we would proceed. Only 50 passengers so had reasonably small #s on excursions. Great ability to move us around without losing anyone and keeping us ...
First class all the way!!
First experience with Viking and it was absolutely terrific!
The only disappointment I have was the fact that the Grand Egyptian Museum STILL has not opened. Obviously, Viking has no control over this, and the museums we did visit in Cairo were fantastic. Our guides were excellent and made the museums very enjoyable.
The morning hot air balloon ride is not to be ...
