We had an insurance conference. Sailed out of Mumbai till Cochin for 3 nights. From the welcome till departure everything was seamless. Thomas Cook employees were also coordinating with the Italian staff. We also had a lot of Indian staff to manage 300 of us. The main meal was a buffet in Al Fresco and we had a choice with Tivoli where we had a sit down dinner to be booked a day in advance. With the Piu Gusto card we were allowed to consume limited drinks and starters. Our Porthole room on the 6th floor was spacious and a comfortable bed and bathroom. My only regret was the dinner options were over at 9;30. So after the crazy parties we had each night we had no food to gorge on at the wee hours. I feel if they are serving alcohol, they should have an all night restaurant. The staff were always attentive, eager to serve us, even though the ship is old, it was the service that stood out. The cruise from Mumbai, to the Maldives and to Sri Lanka and back seemed ideal. I love cruising and India and this cruise was January a good way to get away form the cold in UK. I booked through a cruise company not directly. The initial concern was a visa. Ringing Costa to ask for advice I was told they didn't know if I required a full visa or not (In fact a full visa is essential). Checking in in Mumbai was an on shore trail from one counter to another a shuttle bus to the liner. No warm welcome just a pointer to my cabin on deck 4. The cabin was one of the better things of the cruise. Décor was tired, but the safe worked well, the water in the shower always warm and linen changed regularly. However not even a complimentary bottle of water waiting for me. Food was a cross between Italian and Indian. The choice in the formal dining was not good but in the self service buffet it was fine. However the counters are far apart and if you require toast with your egg you have to walk at least 50 yards! Coffee only freely available at breakfast and at afternoon tea, at all other times it had to be bought. Water had to be purchased in the dining room if you required it with your meal. No coffee served at the table after dining. It is the first cruise I have been on where some food was not available free at all times of day. Therefore returning to the ship after being ashore may mean you have to wait until the next time food was available. The passengers aboard are from many countries therefore entertainment had to allow for this. The dancers and visual shows were well done. Other activities had to be conducted in several languages therefore doing quizzes etc was prolonged. The ports visited (apart from Goa) were cities. I was disappointed not to see anything of 'real' India. The cost of the excursions was prohibitive. Being prepared to book independently we saved three quarters of the excursion costs. The time ashore was very short. This was my thirteenth cruise and the first one was not alolowed to go on the promanarde deck! When I question at reception I was met with a blank. Overall this was a bad experience and I shall never go on a Costa cruise again. Read Less

This was my 4th cruise and my first with the Costa line. Will also be my last cruise with this line. The ship was small and we knew this, but the restrictions placed on teenagers was not acceptable. They had the option of one pool (small) and no Jucuzzi, unless they were 16 plus. What were they supposed to do, so it was boring on cruise days . Not even allowed to use the gym. The ship felt grubby and dated. The crew is part of the experience, and we found especially the reception staff to be rude , abrupt and unhelpful. Sewage smell on the 4th floor that they could not get rid of. There was were two free eating areas. One classy Resturant and one Buffet type eating place. Food was tasty and fresh but everyday the same. No variety. Also too many pork dishes. Not for the religious conscious. The other eating places you had to pay for. Why we had to pay extra for Pizzas when it is an Italian line. Teenagers and kids love Pizzas so how hard could it have been to provide this. They could not even serve ice cream on deck on hot cruise days. In fact there was nothing extra to say this cruise was WOW. In fact you pay for everything outside eat times. water included. When all in Euros , it becomes costly for South Africans. To automatically bill your account in Euros for tips at the end of the cruise is a cheek especially when they were undeserving of a tip. Maybe this is why no effort is put in because they know they getting it anyway. No kids or teenager entertainment, only midnight disco. Senior Staff generally not obliging. . Theatre entertainment ok . Once again no WOW. Activities generally all in Italian so hard for other nationalities to participate. Anyway we made the most of it and we enjoyed the family get together and the ports. We made tan effort to create our own fun and entertainment. we used our own contacts for shore excursions because the ones arranged by the ship were just to expensive. We will definitely not do another Costa cruise . Language and culture to big an issue . They were seldom accommodating. Read Less

I had recently been on the costa neo classica . Not a good experience as it is not indian friendly and the food is terrible , mostly frozen stale and half cooked or half baked. They cater to italian delicacies and totally ignore the needs of other country specialties. They ran straight into the ockhi storm and had a rocking ride from day one. They expect guests to pay for water every time which is not indian culture. They also have a racist attitude towards indians where in we contribute a lot better to the world in general. When they are not indian friendly why do they want to do india ?? The entertainment was also pathetic except for the yuri and edita show. The shows are also in the evening and nothing to do in the morning hours when they sail. The games conducted are also pathetic. Total waste of your hard earned money unless u want to waste it. From the moment you get to the port in Mumbai there is total confusion and chaos. We have been on about 30 cruises and this ship is the worst we have ever been on. The rooms are mediocre and unexceptional. There is no thought put in as to how to make it inviting. The ship looks "tired" and in need of some rejuvenation. There is nothing exciting going on and, quite honestly, the crew couldn't care less. The entertainment is nonexistent. I actually walked out of a show which is something I have never done. The food was a disaster!!! The same old food everyday. Full disclosure - we only ate in the buffet lounge and the only bright light was one of the supervisors - John, who is the sweetest young man and only wanted to make us happy. The only time you get coffee and tea is at breakfast and NOT with any other meals. If you want coffee or tea after lunch or dinner in the buffet lounge, you have to pay about 3 euros. I just felt that they tried to squeeze as much money out of the passengers as possible. You also have to pay for room service which is something we have never done before. The one side of the buffet was Indian foods and the other side was so bland and boring, I sometimes went hungry which has never happened to me before on a cruise. There was plenty of pasta, bread and dreary deserts which doesn't give weight conscious travellers any options. If you wanted pizza, you had to go to the pizza cafe and PAY!! There is no thought put into to making the food exciting and different. The one time we ate in the dining room, the waiter took no time to explain the items on the menu. He just wanted us to order and get it done with. I understand that Costa Cruises is based in Italy but they really don't care about travellers from other countries. The shore excursions were not very exciting and quite expensive. We travelled once with Costa cruises a few years ago and swore never again but there are no other cruise lines that do the southern India and Maldives route. I was disappointed in the Maldives and would absolutely recommend you save your money and go to Tahiti, either on a cruise which is AMAZING or stay on Bora Bora or Morea. Read Less

After reading previous reviews I was slightly worried what to expect from this ship but I was pleasantly surprised. I went on this cruise with my partner for 6 nights to Greece and Italy. We got on the ship at Bari. Embarkation went very smoothly and quick. The ship itself was smaller to what I have previously been on but still a good size. It was clean all over and comfortable. There was a range of activities everyday such as quizzes, dancing and games. The service was amazing all the staff were friendly, polite and very hardworking I couldn't fault it. The cabin was very spacious and we were upgraded to an outside cabin. We had the early dining time of 7.30pm which suited us well. The food was really good and the service was amazing. The show in the evening was good. As the ship is Italian it was the first language and very italian centered and mainly italians on board. The ports we visited were all beautiful places but some were very busy due to several cruise ships in port on the same day. Disembarkation was easy and straightforward. I do prefer English speaking cruises but still enjoyed it. Overall we had a lovely time and it was excellent value for money. Read Less

We scuba dive and this itinerary gave me and my wife the opportunity to see India by flying into Bombay and use of the ship for a hotel for a day and half while touring Bombay. The ship was fantastic and the service superb. Americans on Costa get their water with or without gas free! This was a great surprise for us since I regularly drink water with gas. At night we had entertainment both by floor shows and the disco, most of the time the disco was not visited due to being too tired from the days excursions or scuba diving. Many times we seek other tour options due to some cruise lines inflate their's so much not on this cruise. The most enjoyable aspect of the cruise was that you knew what you were eating and where you were sleeping was comfortable for 14 days. We extended our stay for several more days so as to visit the TM. India needs to spend money on infrastructure. While on our extended visit there were a couple of days we did not eat for fear we would have to find a place for deposit, Oh, toilet paper forget about it. This was a deal offered by bookonline.com. Two back to back cruises over 14 days covering Mumbai, Mangalore, Cochin, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Goa & back to Mumbai. On entering our cabin, it was obviously tired and in need of refurbishment, there was only one socket for all our uses, which in these modern times is crazy. As always after a long flight etc. We made use of the coffee machine and water bottle. Our disgust to find, next day, they we added to the mini bar bill. Everything purchased has a 15% service charge added. EVERTHING. The clientele were 90% Italian. The entertainment was excellent, mostly in Italian. The music and dancing in the main bar was strictly Latin line dancing, 4 steps forward, 4 back, 4 left, 4 right, all night every night. We even started making bets on the next song to come.one other ballroom had a group who played mostly swing, but to only ever a half dozen people, so took frequent breaks. The food in the main restaurant was Italian, with only one deviation when we had a number of Indians on board for 3 days., but there was an opportunity to get something else in the buffet restaurant. The visits to the various stops were fantastic, but very expensive. In Male, the excursion to Paradise Island was 209 Euro per person, incl. lunch & soft drinks. We did it on another Island for 120 Euro pp incl a fantastic lunch all alcohol, beach towels in a 500 Dollar per night hotel & for an hour longer than Costa's. Wake up Costa. Cater for other Europeans as well. As this is the only line to cover that area, there is, sadly, no other choice. Read Less

I chose this cruise thanks to its stops in many Mediterranean islands. Apparently some stops could be avoided as there was nothing interesting to do there. The ship is renovated with a modest but comfortable look. and so are the cabins. Embarkation and disembarkation were excellent, apart from Capri where it took 4 hours to disembark! In many aspects the cruise is "almost" ok, but only almost. It is nothing like the Carnival or RCCL style. The ship is relatively small and so are the two small pools and other dull facilities. Activities are dull to none (SAVINGS!). Almost no musicians in public spaces with no interesting performances during the free time.(SAVINGS!) Food- The evening dining sitting offers the same food as the uninspired buffet (SAVINGS!), but with slow service, less choice and they charge 3.5 Eur for 1L water, 5 Eur for a glass of beer. Half side of the buffet is closed and the rest operates for short hours (SAVINGS!) The food itself is made of cheap products, often tin food or frozen and defrost, which kills their taste.(SAVINGS!) it resembles more a local modest employee cafeteria rather than a cruise cuisine. No juices are offered for free, and the water machine is always broken.(SAVINGS!). No tea / coffee unless between 16-17 (SAVINGS!) The breakfast buffet offers no eggs. (SAVINGS!) If you want an omelette go to the dining room for a served breakfast where the other food items choice is smaller and the service is slow. water / juices are offered only by service in small glass.(SAVINGS!) Evening entertainment fits more a high school level than the Vegas level that is offered by other cruise lines (SAVINGS!). The crew was not presented to the passengers and there was barley a commitment for personal service from ANY of the personnel. Shore excursions are VERY expensive. You can manage on your own with a fraction of the price. All in all, you may expect a 3-star cruise for high bracket price. The impression is that Costa tries to save on its customers on any possible item. Read Less
