We took the cruise to see Cuba. The first stop was Key West, which was great (as always) but way too short of a stopover. Cuba is a beautiful country and most of the people we met were quite nice, but guarded, The tour guides could hardly speak English and were propaganda robots for the Cuban government, but the Taxi driver was great (and he got a big tip). My biggest problems were the following: (1) the Cuban Government rips off Americans on the money exchange ($86.00 back per $100.00 getting off the boat and another charge to redeem the CUCs for Dollars); (2) the Cuban Government says Americans can't use Dollars and charge cards, but we saw numerous places and tourists who accepted them or paid with them; (3) We tried to do an evening cabaret show excursion through Carnival (for $75.00), but when we tried to board the bus, we were refused entry because we wore dress shorts; the ticket did say no shorts but the print was so small it was unreadable and had a line through it, which in legal terms should have meant it did not apply; the bus agent would not give us time to go back on the ship and change, even though we were told by friends the bus waited 20 minutes more for other people (of course, there was no refund for the excursion); and (4) even though Carnival sells onshore excursions in Havana after 8:00 PM, and knows the money exchanges close at 8 PM, and there is no way to exchange the CUCs upon returning to the ship because Carnival refuses to provide this service and leaves port before 8:00 AM. I wonder if Carnival gets a percentage of the rip-off. Overall, the Carnival dining experience has gone way down from past years (at least on the Paradise), and the company does not give a hoot about how its passengers get ripped off for money by being able to exchange CUCs for Dollars after coming back to the ship after an evening excursion. Also, what we saw of Havana was mostly very poor; there are many old classical buildings with great architecture, which have either collapsed or are in the process of collapsing because nothing has been done to preserve them. Bottom line: Save you money and tour another country - preferably on another cruise line. Read Less

I chose Carnival because (1) I have never sailed on Carnival and I had been on 7 cruises prior and (2) because Tampa port is close to home so I didn't have to spent money on port parking or a hotel the night before. I read the reviews and was already aware of the dry dock this ship had gone thru recently so I figured it couldn't be so bad with all the renovations. I'm not even sure where to start. This review isn't about the ship itself but all about the running or operations of this floating asylum. BARS: and this is for the bars or clubs that were actually OPEN, since most of the time when we were out and about a lot of space was not being used. The bars that were open, were crowded of course (United Stated Bar which is just outside the casino, the Atrium bar, pool bars (Rum bar and the tequila bar) and only had ONE, that's right 1 bartender. And that ONE bartender made no habit of scanning the bar from one end to the other to see who has walked up outside of his straight forward line of sight. So if you're standing off to the left or right for several minutes and someone walks up directly in front of the bartenders eyes, they are getting service first. FOOD: worst ever on all of my 7 cruises. The "buffet" was a joke in itself. There are literally approximately 20 food items on this buffet (one on each side), lacked any taste whatsoever and were cold by the time we sat down, which tells me they weren't even warm to begin with up there. And FYI Carnival, probably not a good choice to leave out BOXES AND BOXES of frozen "shrimp on a stick". At least give us some hope that the food is being prepared SOMEWHERE and not just thrown into a microwave. And how do you even get shrimp in the shape of stick anyway? SALAD BARS: constantly out of food items, including the caesar salad, that's a big NO NO! It's salad, not something you need to spend 20 minutes chopping and dressing. Open up another bag, make it look appetizing, and bring it out. CARNIVAL DELI: ate there twice. Once for breakfast because I was sick of the same old breakfast items so wanted some eggs over medium. What I got was overcooked FRIED EGGS that were as crispy as they bacon on the buffet. The other time I visited was for a sandwich, because low and behold the buffet was CLOSED. What? Where is all the endless food they rave about on cruises? Don't look for that on this boat. Anyway I ordered a, Arugula, Pepper and Mozzarella on Ciabatta sandwich. Why was I surprised when I was told, "out of Ciabatta and no Arugula". WTH is it on the menu for then? PIZZA PIRATE: OMG stay way. If you a Royal Caribbean cruiser, please DO NOT think you are getting Sorrento's service here. One person behind the counter, they ask the first couple people what kind of pizza they want, disappear to the back for like 5-10 minutes, probably to put the pizza in the microwave or toaster oven, come back and deal with the next two or three people in line. I'm used to having a variety of pizzas already out and waiting and more coming out every minute or so that you don't have a line of 50 kids waiting for pizza that gets wasted and thrown out anyway because kids are just that, wasteful! Terrible system here. Oh let's not forget about GUYS Burger joint and the taco/burrito bar outside on the pool deck. Just FYI these places are not open all the time. Guys is open until the "so-called buffet" inside starts serving which is 6pm I believe. So if you want a burger and fries after 6pm you are OUTTA LUCK! Even worse, the taco/burrito place next to Guys closes at 3-3:30, so don't look for any of that for dinner. And if you are an early dinner eater, like some of the older folks, your only choice for food will be the dining room (yuk) starting at 5:30 or the burger joint (I've had way better burgers at Five Guys) which is open until 6. And speaking of dining room, check the menu and then check the buffet. Don't be surprised when you see some of the same items on both. SMOKING! on all cruises I have been on there are designated smoking area. Outside on one of the decks, and that is not a designated deck of your choice, smokers! And also in the casino, which is disgusting all together. You really limit the people who are willing to drop money in a casino when you allow smoking. Carnival also has a bar just OUTSIDE the casino that allows smoking at one end of it. Well, that's make total sense now doesn't it? Now forcing the non smokers, who want to keep their lungs healthy, down to other end of the bar (that has one bartender who doesn't look beyond their forward line of sight)! ENTERTAINMENT: not to what I am used to. The singing was something off of a talent TV show and the dancing, well lets just say wouldn't make it past auditions for So You Think You Can Dance. I just don't know where else I can take this review other than getting personal about the 90% of type of people that choose Carnival, so I will end it here. I tried it and can honestly say you get what you pay for. And for those that say Carnival is the cheaper route, do your research. Read Less

I didn't choose this cruise i went with a sick friend whom wanted a companion. I don't even enough strength to even go into how miserable everything was from the accommodations to the food to the service. Absolutely low low class. No air conditioning in room, no coffee pot, shower sprayed all over the floor, do i need to go on? I guess i do. The food was horrible. The same food everyday. Lots of mashed potatoes. If you love potatoes, you'll be in hog heaven. Do not expect gravy on them mashed potatoes though. Half the elevators were out of service. 30 minutes just to get ice. Had i been able to get a flight out of one of the islands, i would have gladly paid the extra money just to get the hell off this ship. Torture Read Less

This trip was unreal!!! First day the water in cabin sink was brown. Over a 2 day period the water went from brown to yellow to clear. After the water runs clear, the sewage odor lasted for the remainder of the cruise. We sailed through Hurricane Michael, on the eastern side of the storm. The seas were rough about 18 hours, other than this the cruise was smooth on the water. I conclude that Carnival has no standards or ethics as exampled by women walking Promenade deck in thong bikini, men going to lunch buffet with no shirts, and children running the aisles after 11PM playing and racing. Cruising with Carnival is not about relaxing. Constant marketing schemes in your face. For example I walk the inside Promendade deck, and Carnival personnel constantly in my face to take a photo. So I spent most of my time saying "no thanks". Now tell me how this is relaxing??? Another issue is if a cruiser does not do a ship excursion, you can forget about getting jetty service to the port. We waited over 2 hours to get to Grand Cayman, just because we did not do a Carnival excursion. Overall cleanliness and service was satisfactory. I know Carnival has passengers fall over deck. I understand because I saw multiple cruisers stumbling and falling in halls after 11PM. I need not say anymore. Carnival will never see me again!!! Read Less

We chose this cruise specifically for the waterpark, which was a huge let down. Not only was it much smaller than expected, with only one big slide that was super slow, it was closed for almost half of our trip. I felt the quality of the food was poor with limited choices, mainly fried, tons of oil, imitation cheese on eggs, SPOILED foods, extreme lack of healthy options. Our cabin was unclean, all of the lines, towels, sheets, bed spreads, as well as dirty fridge, and commode. I found some of the staff to be rude to customers as well as other staff, especially men towards woman, as noted in the Effy Store. Items were lost...the list goes on. I found budget entertainment some of the evenings, as well as silly day time and evening pool side events that were not always family appropriate. I found their sales pitches disguised as fun, free gift give away events that endured for 2-3 hours with Sam and Lauren extremely annoying and disrespectfully a huge waste of guest's vacation time. We have cruised in the past with Carnival and had a good experience, but this ship, this staff, I found added to just an overall negative cruise experience. Considering the above, as well as the exuberant amount of money spent, I will not sail again with Carnival, especially on the Paradise. The shore excursions booked through Expedia (and not Carnival) were amazing! Read Less

This ship is awful. Our 9th cruise, we know what to expect. Guest relations were terrible. The people on this ship just didn't want to help. From guest services, to house keeping (one day our room wasn't touched) to the cruise director (when is it funny to make fun of people who get hurt). The app we paid for didn't work on half my parties phones, so 4 of us could text each other, the other 4 couldn't. The a.c. didn't work while the ship was moving, I've never been so hot in my life and I'm from Florida! I was injured and needed medical services, wasn't able to move my left leg at all, crying in front of the Dr. Asked for her notes to give to my PCP, in there she lied and said "patient had full mobility and was in good spirits." I just don't trust carnival. The food was so bad my teenager, who eats ANYTHING didn't care for it. The pool is tiny and always full. The slides were closed on our trip, so no use of those. The Jacuzzi was cooler than bath water. The entertainment didn't start until 6. No live karaoke, only regular karaoke during dinner time. There was trivia and Hasbro games during the day, but everything else were high pressure sales during the day. Definitely NOT the best cruise. We're gold members but we're leaving carnival. The best part about the whole cruise was the magician. They're awful, and I hope you do too! don't waste your cruise like I did! Read Less

This was my wife and my 45th anniversary present to each other. We should have stayed home, went out to dinner, and saved 4 grand. If you are looking for a low budget frill cruise, an over crowded ship, school cafeteria food, and poor service then this cruise is for you. First the over crowded, dipping your toes in the pool or even finding a lounge chair, unless it’s raining, was impossible. In addition we arrived in Key West with three other cruise ships, and in Cozumel with 4 others. Shoulder to shoulder shopping, no seats to sit down to eat, and over-priced trinkets. The only things to do on the ship for the middle aged was to listen to music, no ‘60s or Country; drinking if you could get service; gamble if that’s your thing; and eating if you don’t mind what you put in your mouth. The dining room food tasted like school cafertia food. The only thing we found palatable in the food court was a hamburger and fries, for 5 days! Carnival also must go to great lengths to train their staff not to do anything special for their guests. My friend asked to taste a thimble full of the reminents of a mohito blender mix and was told that they would lose their job if caught giving anything away. Instead it was washed down the drain. Why aren’t soft drinks free, gotta be $$. Service was poor everywhere. Carnival seems to pride themselves on having over 50 nationalities on their staff. I wouldn’t care if I was served by a baboon if the food was good and service was friendly. This was my first and last Carnival cruise I have disembarked for the last time. Read Less

I have cruised 5 times with Carnival and this was the most disappointing experience I have had. The reason I chose this cruise is because I wanted to see the Cayman Islands and always had a good time on Carnival Cruse Lines, but this was a big disappointment this time. We only saw our Steward once at the beginning of the cruise and never saw him again. Although, the rooms were kept cleaned. The entertainment was good. The food in the dining room was not that great and the waiters were not that friendly. The best food was on the Lido deck. The casino was very small and the machines were too tight for winnings. The most enjoyable times were when I got off the ship at Cayman Islands and Cozumel. In the future, I am going to try a different cruise line other than Carnival and compare the two. Read Less

So many things wrong!!! When we got in our cabin it was not set up so we did it ourselves and found that the carpet was disgusting under the beds. The very next morning we woke up with flea bites - multiple times to Guest Services only got us a quick "Go to Medical". We bought the drink package and found that it was a waste of time as there were only a handful of bartenders on the deck at any given time. Most of the time it would take over 30 minutes of standing at the bar to get a drink. No one walking around! Our shore excursion was awful - billed as the "Great Race" all it had us do is walk around the worst parts of Cozumel - the snorkel part of it didn't bother to offer us a place to change into swimsuits so we didn't get to do anything. Incredible waste of money. Meals were mediocre at best - at one time only one elevator worked on our end of the ship. Painful as my mother is in a wheelchair and we had to use the elevators. One floor had construction so lots of noise. Not much to do - my grandchildren were totally bored as they are pre-teens and there isn't anything offered for them except sitting in a game room. This was absolutely the worst cruise I have ever been on. It was so bad I'm not sure I will ever take a cruise again. Read Less

Our group chose this cruise because our travel agent suggested it. From the Tampa port where there was mass confusion on the part of the attendants. Four of us with walkers had to wait 20 minutes while the elevator was being fixed. After 20 minutes, I flagged down an official looking person and told him of our plight. He looked over and said the elevator is working and asked who told us it wasn't. I pointed to the attendant who saw me pointing and then she took off. You only get one time to make a good impression and it was lost. We found our rooms but had to collapse the walkers to get in. Doors not wide enough and not ADA compliant. Announcements could not be heard in the cabins. If you heard the ding before an announcement, you had to go to the door and open it to hear what was being said. Speaking of that, the guy who had most of the announcements had such a strong Australian accent and talked so quickly that it was very hard to understand. I saw many people talking right through his announcements because they could not understand him anyway. Definitely the wrong person to give announcements. I do have to say that the food was good in the buffet and the attendants were wonderful. Top notch service. We found a small outdoor deck area aft of the buffet. Nice tables and chairs. Best part of the cruise. Peace and quite. The pool area music was so loud that I saw people yelling at each other to be heard. The dining room food was OK. Never saw the same wait staff again. Several people in our group told of shower backups and overflowing drains. Walking from mid to forward area on deck 4 there was a strong smell of sewage. Too many ships in port at the same time. Crowds were horrible. Long walks through vendor areas to get to something to see. To sum it up I was so glad to finally get back to Tampa and get off the Paradise. If I ever cruise again I will probably stay on the ship and enjoy the peace and quiet after everyone leaves. Read Less
