although this was my 5th cruise on carnival it was my children's first. I also took my girlfriend and her 2 sons which was their first cruise as well. after reading reviews about the carnival paradise I was really nervous that this trip would not live up to the hype. because of the week that we had to go and the port that was convenient for us this was the trip we were taking. I saw a lot of bad reviews about the food, the entertainment, the age and size of the ship, the size of the pools. most of these comments were true but I realized something watching my kids. they were having the time of their lives. they didn't care that there were too many people in the pool or that the food was a little bland. I think we are all just a little too picky bout some things. these employees are trying their best and it cant be easy pleasing 2000 people. there are a few things carnival can do on this particular ship but I do believe they are doing the best they can. I actually enjoyed the smaller ship. lines to the buffet were shorter and common areas were less crowded. we will defiantly be back as soon as we can make it. Read Less

We have been on 15+ cruises, several on Carnival so there were no surprises. We hosted 20 cruisers in a group to celebrate a birthday. The Ship – Old, but well maintained. Elevators were frequently out of service. Occasionally for crew use but often it looked like they were trying to save electricity. Atrium elevators were the worst. Trivia games and musical entertainment were held near the bar that had a smoking wall and was next to the Casino (which had a lot of smoke overflow from the gamblers). Bad choice, the smell of smoke was unpleasant and made it very difficult to enjoy the experience. Most of Deck 8 smelled of smoke so the public rooms get a poor rating. The Buffet – Food selection was good. The Wok was popular and had a long wait. On a sea day with rain it was difficult to find a seat. The Cabin – plenty of room and closet/storage space. The Air Condition control was fair and the lighting was good. Bathroom was large and the shower was excellent, lots of water. Separate controls for hot and cold made for easy temperature adjustment. Floor tiles need cleaning. Neighbor cabin complained of sewer smell on 2 occasions. Iwaxan was our steward for 3 cabins and did an excellent job. The Dining Room – We ate most of our meals in the MDR. Grace and her team were our servers. She did an outstanding job for all 20 of us. Based on reports from our group, it is possible to be served a meal that you feel is cold, over cooked, under cooked of otherwise not to your liking. My suggestion is to ask for a different meal. The wait staff is very accommodating. The Children's Programming – Our granddaughter was under 2 and had limited access to the children's programming. She did get to play with the toys at select times at no charge. She was also able to watch the Dr. Seuss parade and story time which was excellent. The Entertainment – There were 2 singing/dance shows. Only got to see the first one. It was great. The Cruise Director played the fiddle and he was amazing. The Ports – It rained at both ports. Grand Cayman: We booked a trip to the Turtle Farm. Since it was raining so hard, we were given a chance to return our tickets for a refund. Since we had a toddler with us this was much appreciated. We took a cab ($5 per person) to 7 Fathoms, the rum distillery. A tour and lots of rum an spirits to sample for $5. Cozumel: Took a cab to the Mayan Ruins. The rain didn't stop the mosquitoes. We had repellent. Read Less

This is by far the best vacation that my boyfriend and I have EVER been on. The worst experience was the amount of botox it required to remove the wrinkles from laughing so much over the last week. The service is impeccable and I really believe each and every employee is happy to be apart of the Carnival family. If you're willing to participate and try new things, this is definitely the "experience" for you. I HIGHLY recommend the comedy club at night. If you're looking to cry from laughter, this is for you! In terms of being prepared, I would recommend that you buy the drink package, book excursions prior, bring extra money (you'll love the shops) and lastly, bring a great attitude and enjoy your "ship family" for the week. It was my mine and my wife's birthdays and we decided, along with our adult daughter, to celebrate by taking our first cruise onboard the Carnival Paradise to Cozumel. From the moment we boarded in Tampa, until we were back in Tampa, we had nothing but a fantastic time. Our cabin was comfortable and the service received by the attendant was excellent. We did the early dining so we could enjoy the entertainment afterwards. The food was absolutely good. There was no way you could go hungry and the servers treated us to birthday cake and a song. There was plenty to do while onboard. We enjoyed two well produced shows, several comedy shows in the Punchliners Comedy Club, live music and dancing, the casino, Bingo, swimming, hot tubs, miniature golf, and much more. The crew was very friendly, treating us as if they had known us forever. There's no doubt we'll be joining them again in the near future. Never felt more relaxed. Read Less

This is my 7th cruise, and 4th on Carnival. This is the best cruise yet! Some of my main issues with cruise food is that it can be blah. This cruise had tasty desserts (and yes, they had taste!!!) and the dinners were excellent. Even the on-board lunch, which is usually my least fav, was a WOW Italian buffet. The cabin stewards, wait staff, and entertainers and bar people all were very cordial and were service oriented. The onboard was a breeze, the tendering was well run, the drill at the beginning of the cruise was nice since most was indoors and you weren't sweating to death. Had 2 at-sea days, great brunch! The 2 ports of call (Cayman and Cozumel) were both interesting and the tours from them were really great. The beds were comfy and although I made the mistake of getting a room under the dining area, mostly quiet. (It appears at 10p till midnight they move the chairs around in the dining room. Why??? Only odd thing was the room was never cleaned at the right time. They always wanted to do it after I came back from means. Great fitness area as always. PS - no fridge :( Read Less

Returned from a 5 day cruise on Carnival Paradise in an outside view room M-82. Main deck. Balcony space is limited on this ship due to its age. Let me first say this cruise was a Bucket list completion. We have gone to the Gulf coast area for family vacations for many years driving over the sunshine bridge. During one of our drives over the bridge we saw the Paradise going under the bridge. Yep A good reason to go on this cruise. The trip from the port to the Gulf takes about 2 hours thru the waterway. During our departure speaking with others it was noted a lot of people on this particular cruise had the same Bucket list item to complete. It was amazing to see that many people on deck doing as us and taking pictures of us passing under the bridge. Yes it was an older ship but the service and attention to detail by those on board was impeccable. We have been on many cruises on some of the most recent ships on other lines and not received the personalized service these crew members provided. Upon arrival to our room our Room Steward greeted us and asked our names. Anytime we met him he always addressed us by name on both the First and Last days of our cruise. I think he was operating in Stealth mode. We would see him in passing in the hallway but never once were we inconvenienced with him cleaning our room. So off to dinner we go (We all know food is one of the highlights of a cruise and can make or break the trip) On arrival to our dining room we were met and escorted to our table. I will say the service crew of our waiter WIN and assistant waiter ALEJANDRO was one of if not the BEST wait staff we have ever had. As I had said previously we have traveled on multiple cruise lines including some of the Higher level lines and these 2 gentlemen have set a standard of expectation for us. The food on this cruise was also another unexpected pleasure. On a couple of our previous cruises on other lines we noticed there a was a drop in quality and taste of the meals provided. It seemed as if you didn't want to pay for dinner at one of the specialty restaurant the quality was just HO-HUM, not on the Paradise every meal was always flavorful and high in quality in the main dining room. Our dining mates also made our meals an enjoyable time. They were first time cruisers and to be able to hear about all of their experiences of the day was an unexpected treat to be able to relive our first time through their stories. The ships amenities and shopping accommodations are not quite as abundant as on the newer and larger ships but weren't really missed by us as we are not onboard shoppers. ROOM SERVICE: Breakfast was limited to continental style choices but lunch and dinner had a few more choices. The times we used it for breakfast it was always on time and correct and a tip provided for those delivering the meals. We did noticed that it appeared alot of people would use it late at night as a midnight snack. ON DECK DINING: Burgers and hot Dog fare on deck along with a Mongolian stir fry bar (Recommended) Buffet: Always a Good selection of regular foods and some specialties to keep it interesting. FRESH MADE SANDWICH SHOP: Both Hot and cold selections. Everything from Old reliable ham and cheese to Grilled Rubens and Chef specials pretty much a taste of all rolled into one. PIZZA: I was surprised it was always fresh and tasted very good. Was definitely a highlight for the teens on board and a great late night snack. SITES Visited: Grand Cayman: We had traveled here early in our cruising vacations days with our boys. This time we were a little older so the activity levels weren't as intense so we decided to do the swim with the Rays. My wife is not a swimmer but has become more of an adventurist as she has gotten a little braver. Zip lined in Haiti and now wanted try this So we went . She was nervous because she is not a swimmer, but upon arrival at the site she saw that as advertised that the water was only waist to chest high so she was in. Another plus was the visit to the Sea turtle nursery to see the efforts being put forth to ensure the continuation and re-population of the sea turtle. Cozumel : We have been here multiple times but still enjoy visiting here. The Silver jewelry in the shops downtown recommended by the cruise lines is simply amazing. If they don't' have something you want in Silver they will usually know some one who has it and will escort you to that shop. I have always been leery of the I make you good deals guys in these shops but I have never been let down on Quality of their silver. I have taken some of my higher level purchases of silver to be evaluated by jewelers here and never once have I been ripped off. ALWAYS: look for the impregnated stamp of .925 in the silver you purchase. DAYS AT SEA: This is one of our favorite parts of any cruise. This is when you want can do absolutely nothing but relax and forget about work or other things that may be pressing or be as crazy as you want and participate in the onboard craziness that ensues. We prefer to find a nice quiet, sunny spot with a very attentive Bar service person and just relax and let the ocean breeze blow away our concerns. DISEMBARKATION: (Vacations over) Carnival does a good job of this process, as they have programs that accommodate ALMOST everyone (you always have the scammers) The paradise arrived in port a little later then we were used to, so when we had booked our return flight and found out about the later arrival that we were pressed for time to make our flight, we went the Guest services desk and they assured us we wouldn't have any problem and gave us the instructions we needed to make sure that it all worked out. YEP IT did!! OK NOW THE DOWN SIDE: NO MORE GALA MIDNIGHT BUFFETS: on any of the ships we have been on recently guessing a cost concern. It was always enjoyable to go these to see all the different presentation of food and and Ice sculptures that were on display. Days Gone By!! POOL SPACE: was smaller then we were used to so it was crowed alot of the time. The main pool also is too deep for non-swimmers as it was almost 5 feet and there was a lot of surrounding space to just dip your feet in or get wet. The 2nd pool was also small but at least accessible for non-swimmers although with the kids pool right next to it the quiet part was missing. JUST A NOTE: The KIDS pool had what appeared to be rust at one of the drains something that hopefully will or has been addressed. OVERALL IMPRESSION: An older ship that makes up with impeccable service. HATS OFF TO CARNIVAL FOR A GREAT CRUISING EXPERIENCE!! Read Less

My husband and I came on this cruise for our honeymoon. Initial thought was they are very affordable. I booked a hotel with a customer service representative through carnival. We stayed at Doubletree Hilton hotel which was about 5-7 miles from the Tampa port. We were able to have our car parked on Hilton's secured parking deck for the duration of our trip which was much cheaper and safer than parking at the port. Doubletree was able to contact a taxi and had it ready for us the morning of the cruise. The staff on this cruise was amazing. So friendly! Knew all of our names after meeting us once! Dining was indescribable. Had lobster with prime rib one night. Our server, George, was probably the best server I have ever had in my life. So friendly and him and my husband truly hit it off. Everyone in the staff was from another country which kept it interesting. There was a staff member, Ivan, who was from Croatia which is next to where my husband is from and they became quite close. It really felt like a little family after awhile. Our stewartist was Gusti and he was awesome. He made little animals and other cool origami with towels and left them in our room and we would see them after dinner. The comedy shows were hysterical!!!!!! Probably the most exciting thing to do on the ship. I would recommend this to anyone!! By far the most fun, while still affordable vacation you can do. Read Less

Just got off of the Paradise, I was apprehensive about a smaller ship with no balconies but was surprised to find that the old ship was in great shape and found the dinning to be above Carnivals pretty good food and the entertainment above average! This was our 12th Carnival cruise and my 20th with all cruise lines, sure the ship is small and there is no surfing, hang gliding,or zip lines...but there are NO lines! anytime dining, no waiting, service at dinner was excellent as was the food! The Carnival singers and dancers were some of the best I have seen on a cruise. Only down side of the cruise (besides being too short) is if you are a non-smoker...it is hard to get away from the smoke, especially in the casino! overall a very pleasant experience! Bingo was always fun but if your 85 year old mother is playing more than one card she will not be able to keep up, Max is very quick with the numbers! By the second day, every staff member knew our names and seemed to really care whether or not we were having a good time. Read Less

The second sailing since the ship was dry docked for cleanup. Ship was very clean even though it is an older ship. Spa services were great. Dinner service was excellent. All other services met or exceeded expectations. Tenders to Grand Cayman were limited and shortened an already short day. Cozumel is not recommended as a destination--even though I have enjoyed it several times in the past. Did not feel as welcoming, and even not comfortable that we were in a safe place. Recommend staying on the ship for the best enjoyment. Note: Disappointed that I was told Carnival discontinued the chocolate mint on the pillow treat. Read Less

I took my daughter and grand daughter on the 5 day cruise out of Tampa. We were celebrating my daughters 28th birthday. I had cruised twice before on the Paradise as the port is close to home. We had a very good time! The plus side was the friendly staff, the sit down meals, Camp Carnival for the four year old, and the entertainment. Our cruise director, Steve and his staff (Iman, Max and Steven) kept us in stitches with the games and shows. The Punchliner comedy shows were fun. Dining is one of my favorite parts of a cruise so we ate every breakfast in the Elation and had dinner as assigned in the Destiny every night except the last. Some of the dishes were really over the top excellent and some were so-so. I wasn't so keen about the Paris cafeteria food but the salad bar and the deli sufficed for lunch. The taste bar on the promenade deck is worth checking out. For the grand daughter Camp Carnival was wonderful. On average she spent 3 hours each day and the staff was really good! We were issued a cell phone and could call and check on her and of course they could call us if they needed to. We peeked in several times just to check and she was always engaged and having fun. The last night she stayed for Night Owls, a paid service at $7 per hour so that my daughter and I could attend the adult comedy shows. It was well worth the $14! Leah was her favorite counsellor. The port of Tampa was easy-peasy for embark/debark process. The lines flow well and the port staff was friendly and helpful. The not so good was the lines for Paris cafeteria service and the lack of places to smoke. On a prior cruise on the Paradise we had the option of smoking on the top deck aft, starboard side. The ashtrays have been removed and there is no smoking permitted there. The only places to smoke are in the Casino Bar (about 10 stools), the Casino, or the often noisy Lido deck with about 12 tables and a bar on starboard side. The windows there are dirty and difficult to enjoy looking out. As the good outweighed the bad I will certainly cruise Carnival again. Read Less

I apologize in advance for the long review! This was my 2nd cruise ever, and my 2nd time cruising on the Paradise in a year. I cruised on this ship for the first time in August of 2014, and again on this trip. I know there are a lot of people who don't like this ship based on her age, appearance, etc., but I am a huge fan of this ship. The night we got back to Tampa we booked another cruise, but this time on a different Carnival ship to experience something different! We had a friend of ours drive us to the port and drop us off to avoid having to pay the parking rates since we live in the area. We were shooting to be at the port around 11am, but ended up getting dropped off closer to 1145a and I was surprised at how slow the port was. I figured since it was a holiday and this cruise was sold out it would be a mad house, and it was the exact opposite. We made it from the car to the bar in 20 minutes, I was absolutely amazed. There was no waiting anywhere and checking in and boarding the ship was a breeze. Once we got on board the ship the first thing we did was purchase the Cheers package at the Atrium bar. I was a bit hesitant at first, but after everything was said and done I will absolutely purchase this package again on future cruises. On the 4 day cruise, to include tax, and 15% gratuity it came out to $230 per person, but we had some on-board credit thanks to the Early Saver rate and made it even more reasonable. I highly recommend this package to anyone who plans on partaking in an adult beverage, or 15. This will prevent you from having to keep track of just how many times you have swiped your Sail and Sign card. After getting our Cheers package and our first drinks we decided to head towards the Lido deck and the Paris restaurant to get some lunch. On our way there, and for the first little while on board they were walking around handing out free glasses of champagne. That was a nice, unexpected touch. I'm guessing they had a decent amount left over from the previous nights NYE party. The first thing I had to have was something from the Mongolian Wok, and it was just as good this time as I remembered it, and I made sure to get something from here every time I saw that the line wasn't ridiculous. Compared to our first time on the Paradise, I thought the food this time around was a lot better. We ate dinner in the Elation dining room each night with the YTD and never had an issue getting in, or getting good service. I always enjoy the little show that the wait staff puts on for us. On our sea days we made sure to hit brunch in the Elation and enjoyed that both times it was available. The morning of our Mexico stop we ate breakfast in Elation and this was probably my least favorite meal that I had on the boat. The omelette tasted as though it had been marinated in oil before cooking. We never really made lunch a huge priority, but the few times we would grab something to eat for lunch the food was good from the buffet. The pizza; that we only seemed to eat in the middle of the night after a day of drinking was always good. The only entertainment that we made a point of seeing was the 18+ comedy shows in the Punchliner Comedy club in the Queen Mary Lounge. Both nights that we saw the comedians we had a great time, and really enjoyed it. These shows are DEFINITELY only intended for those who are 18+, NOT easily offended and have a warped sense of humor. This is something I look forward to seeing again the next time we sail. We didn't see any of the stage productions, that's not really our cup of tea. We did want to see Steve's juggling act, but we missed it due to have a great time at the Piano bar with Mark. That was a lot of fun, and something I highly recommend if that is something you're into. Debarkation came way too quickly, but it was an extremely easy process. The last time we sailed, it was very slow and didn't seem to be handled very well. This time it was a smooth, quick process and it was handled very well. Read Less

my over all opinion on this cruise and ship is that it is very, very good. on day 1 embarkation we decided to use The Parking Doctor and that was a great move. We saved money and they transported us to the cruise terminal in about 5 min. Then onto checking in. We had priority check in and that went quick other than a little error of them checking me in under my dads room.( he is the Sr. I am the Jr.) but fixed quickly. next we are on the ship at about 10:30, and since wee are getting married on the boat our room was ready so we can drop off all of our extra wedding carry-on's. after we spent a few min checking out the room and a quick drink on the balcony we went to explore the ship and of course eat, and eat and eat... lol We spent the rest of the day relaxing and drinking and getting to know our way around the boat along with seeing shows and doing all we could . Day 2 was started with room service and coffee on the balcony, then we spent time with family relaxing by the pool and eating some more... ;). during dinner we met our wedding coordinator (Abigale) and photographer(Svetlana) and made plans to meet later to go over everything for the next day and get a tour of were our event was to be held. The wife to be had a early hair and make up apt so went to bed early and I went to catch the comedy shows, and I recommend then to everyone, very funny. Day 3 Wedding day and Cozumel day. the bride left early and I went to breakfast with family and then when the boat unloaded people I went to get ready. the wedding was at 12:30 so the ship was almost completely empty and all ours for a few hrs. our Wedding was in the Queen Marry lounge and the reception was in the Rex dance club. We all had a blast my bride was breathtaking and it was a experience we will never forget... after dancing and photos all over the ship we went to dinner and then to our room to change and go out for a bit before turning in. Day 4 we woke up to room service and then up to the sports deck to watch the sunrise. that whole day we spent alone just enjoying some alone time doing different things and shows. and going over our photo package options, that was a long ordeal because the photographer did an amazing job and it was just hard to decide. day 5 we wake up to room service and coffee on the balcony as we return to port in Tampa. We were off the ship about 10 and the shuttle to our car was waiting and we were on the roar back home by 10:30. what an amazing trip and cant wait to do it again without the wedding so we can explore the islands...   Read Less

This is my first attempt after 9 cruises to actually write a review, so here goes. First let me say that it seems the Carnival Paradise gets a bad rap. Nay sayers will be nay sayers, so let them say what they will. This was our experience. We got to the port of Tampa around 11:30 for our 4 day cruise. Check in at the counter was a breeze, we were given our room keys, and assigned a zone number within 5 minutes. We were zone 15, zone 11 was currently boarding. It took less than 5 minutes to have our zone called and onboard we went. Lunch was being served on the Lido deck, so we sat down for a bite of lunch, DH helped himself to a hamburger off the grill, and I got in line for the Mongolian Grill. It was delish!! The skies were cloudy and gray, and it was a little windy, so we stayed on the Lido deck (parked in chairs by the bar) and spent the afternoon people watching. Agus was the first server who brought us drinks, and throughout the cruise he remembered not only our names but what we liked to drink (go for the mohito - but be careful (it's got a kick!). The staff weren't pushy about selling you drinks or anything else for that matter. We were delayed about an hour departing due to the fog. Our cabin was on the Empress deck (E12). I was a little worried being under the stage, as we aren't late night people, but honestly, we never (ever) heard any movement from above. Our cabin steward JayJay kept our room tidy, he was great, brought us ice and made sure the ice bucket stayed full. I can't remember the names of our dining room servers, really wish that I could, they too were excellent. You want two of this entree and one of that? NO PROBLEM, you had it! Two sea days and one day in Cozumel made for a perfect little getaway. Back to squash the naysayers, this ship is older, but it was very clean, and the crew was always working to keep it that way. We didn't try anything that we didn't like foodwise, (the first day they served seafood fritters and they were REALLY good). We only went to two shows, 8 Seconds More and Shout, those performers really gave it their all, and we enjoyed both shows. We went to a couple of Trivia games, they were entertaining. The hairy chest competition was a riot on this cruise! So take my review for what it is, enjoy the Paradise for what it is, one of the smaller ships that pack a big old FUN that you can feel as soon as you board. Hope you enjoy your trip on the Paradise - because we DID!!!! Read Less

Had just gotten back from the reposition on Splendor San Juan to Miami on 9th of Nov, so wasn't expecting to take another cruise on 4th of Dec. Saw a terrific rate so I booked Paradise. Just a 4 nighter, but have wanted to try out Fantasy class for a while. Heard mixed reviews about Paradise, so wasn't sure what to expect. Never been disappointed on any of the 4 previous Carnival cruises and sure wasn't on this one. I had a marvelous time. I took this as a solo as I did on Splendor. Carnival does a great job putting other solo cruisers at the same table in the dining room. The food and service were great just like on all 4 previous Carnival cruises in the dining room. The omelette bar became a regular treat for me in the morning. Delicious. The pizza bar late night was another gem. Delicious. My room stewards were great, as were the bar staff and all the Carnival staff I met along the way, with that Carnival smile and welcoming attitude. Even the folks that didn't serve me directly such as the staff who were sweeping the floors or cleaning in some fashion were so nice. I tipped several of them along my way, and thanked them for making things so nice for us. The ship is a bit dated, granted, but I like nostalgia. The atrium was beautiful; colorful and bright. I liked the ship theme on Paradise. Even the frosted glass sketch of the ocean liner with the subtle light behind it in my cabin was a very nice touch. My oceanview cabin was spacious, especially for a solo traveler. The only thing on the cabin front was it was a bit of a challenge to get to the window with the table and bed blocking the way. I just climbed up on the bed and looked out No biggie, I was usually on deck most of my waking hours. I really liked the ship. It seemed much larger when on board than when I have seen it sailing out of Port Tampa. Another thing I liked; was my cabin was right down the hall from the piano bar in the atrium, the internet area, shore excursion desk and guest services. Quite a unique layout. When Paradise comes out of dry-dock in a few weeks, she will be better than ever. However, I thought Paradise was just fine 2 months ago. Thanks Carnival. Read Less

The cruise was fun from the moment we embarked until we reluctantly walked off the ship. -- We got the $49 Faster To The Fun (FTTF) so embarkation was a breeze and our room was ready. Best $50 ever spent. We went directly to the buffet and Mongolian wok and had a VERY delicious lunch. Started the cruise on a full, satisfied stomach. Kids went to the O2 club where they met other kids their age 16+ and they had activities for them every day. Kids had rave reviews of club O2. There was soooo much to do on the ship. We went to all shows and participated in contests, and I even won the putting contest!! We relaxed, ate, exercised, met people, had fun at the comedy club. Too many things to list. ---- Cigarette smoke was not an issue. (unless I was at a smoking table in the casino.... where I expect smoke.) I found no overcrowding, some people complained about things that are not worth complaining about. (They are just hard to please.) Someone wrote that "the ship shows her age....." yes!! it's 20 years old!! It looked fine. If you want to be a jerk, then you can look in corners and see chipped paint. ??? If you want a newer ship, then pay the $1,100 per person for a brand new ship. ---- We had an ocean view which we enjoyed. Our room steward (Tree) was amazing! Made us feel like we were his only clients. This was my wife and my 3rd cruise. (Royal Caribbean in the past) ---Kids did the "Dolphin encounter" excursion. Worth every penny as the kids totally enjoyed it and we got some great pics also. (+$69) - The Cruise director Steve and assistant Hugo were ALL-THAT!!!!!! Made the shows even more fun. This cruise was amazing............ I could write so much more. Can't wait until we cruise again ASAP!! Read Less

We went on this cruise hesitantly after reading reviews on here. We were happily surprised. The ship is a older one but it was maintained nicely and was clean. Plenty of onboard things to do for pretty much anyone. Food was good for the most part, didn't have any complaints. Ports of call were nice as well and well organized for the tendering at Grand Cayman and docking at Cozumel. Didnt do any excursions as this was our first cruise and we wanted to take it in. Comedy club is a must and the Casino has plenty of options. Pool level bars serve some of the best mixed drinks on the ship if your into that as well. Our room attendant was EXCELLENT as well if you get Sean your in luck. Our room level was empress mid ship oceanview and was in good shape with a flat screen tv, plenty of stoarage. Faster to the fun is a great add on as well. We're already in the process of planning our next cruise. Don't let the reviews scare you away unless your ultra picky. Also the ship wasn't crowded and the New Years party they threw was the best I've ever been to in my 33 years!!! Read Less

As a "Diamond" member, I arrived at the port at about 11:30, and went directly through the embarkation procedure, and aboard the ship in about 20 minutes. I've always found the Port of Tampa to do an excellent job, whether you're a "first timer", or a Diamond member. As usual, the Lido deck was a bit crowded on embarkation day, with many folks dragging their suitcases around with them, while waiting for the cabins to be ready, but once again, as a Diamond Member, my cabin was ready and waiting when I boarded. Cabin was clean, and exactly what I expected. (Inside, deck 7 aft) The cruise was outstanding, and offered excellent food, and service. I found the entertainment aboard "Paradise" to be far better than most ships, as "Paradise" has NOT upgraded to the "Playlist Production" shows yet, and has a full compliment of singers, dancers, and musicians. GREAT shows, including "8 More Seconds" which features the cruise director, Steve Cassel, playing his fiddle. Fun! The second show, "Shout" is also outstanding, and will have you singing along. Ports are very good, although I never leave the ship much anymore, as I've been to the ports over, and over again. Staying aboard in port offers lots of advantages, such as "all the pools, and hot tubs are vacant, and you can have any lounger you want. No lines at the buffet either! OUTSTANDING! Debarkation, back at Tampa was quick and painless. I carried all my stuff off, and was the second soul to leave the ship. The staff of the "Paradise" are well organized, and the debarkation process for the entire ship is quick, and easy. I'd highly recommend "Paradise" to anyone wanting a short, relaxing get away. Ship, and Crew are truly EXCELLENT!   Read Less

My wife booked this cruise at the last minute because the price was in our budget. We have cruised before and have always enjoyed them, no matter the destination. I'm not sure what others think about the Paradise but knowing that it was a smaller ship than others we've been on, it did not disappoint us. The food was always hot and great tasting. Yes, we had to wait in line for just about any station for breakfast or lunch, but you have to wait in line at other places. Only one small complaint or issue I had was with the scrambled eggs at the buffet at breakfast. The eggs were not completely done, which I wish they had been and a reason why I would wait in line for a custom omelette. The shows are awesome and fun to watch and the energy of the cruise director was very nice and different from others. I really enjoyed when he played the fiddle during one of the shows, wow can he play! The dancers were very talented and the shows are amazing. How can they do two shows each night shows their talent and dedication. The piano bar was one of my favorites, I wish I could remember the piano players full name. (Maybe someone could respond with a review with his name so I can find him on facebook or pinterest) I know his first name was Mark. The part I enjoyed the most was the interaction with the members of the people in the bar and sitting around the piano. If you wanted to sing, he would let you take the mic and sing. My wife sang one of the songs as well as another talented young lady who sang a few songs during that last Friday night of the cruise. One of the other nights an older lady sang a few songs as well, and boy could she sing too! Not too many people in the bar, which I like because it made the evening more enjoyable and intimate. I also did not like that smoking was allowed in the bar/casino area. It wouldn't have been too bad but when you walk from one location with no smoke and then bam!, right there all at once is a cloud of smoke. It would fade as you walked into the casino but they still allowed smoking there too, which wasn't as bad. I did really want to play some slots or even a game of blackjack or try my hat at craps but the missus wouldn't let me and I am afraid my funds wouldn't allow me to either because I would play way too much win or lose! The staff and especially our cabin steward went above and beyond by filling up our two small coolers with ice to keep our drinks cold that we brought aboard. I was very happy and impressed and wish I would have said thank you to him! Also, Love, (I think his name is spelled Lovee) our waiter during our evening meals was very nice and would chat with us a bit as my wife and I ended up being the only people at our table three of the five nights. Once I asked for tea with my dinner, I was brought tea for each dinner after, which was a very nice touch and unexpected. They had no complaints with us ordering an extra appetizer to share as each night the appetizer changed or you could pick from the standard appetizer. I did mention the eggs as an complaint or issue so I will list a few other issues. The cold water pressure in the shower was not enough to make up for the extremely hot water so you had to just barely turn on the hot so it would not scald you. The cabin AC was on way to high which was the first thing we turned down after the first night but nothing major to complain about. I do wish they wouldn't charge so much for the pictures as I know most of them would go to waste. I would have bought a few 8x10s for $10 but for $20+! Are you serious?! Same for 5x7s. I think they would get so much more money if they lowered their prices to a more reasonable amount... Why take so many photos if they are going to print them and then just put them in the trash? But in closing, overall a very good time was had by the wife and I. We enjoyed our time and our selected shore excursions. So if you can book a cruise, you should! Read Less

This review is of our time spent on the Paradise. My GF and myself enjoyed it throughly. Granted this was only our 2nd cruise (1st being Sensation) we felt it met our expectations. Just be informed with the forums and other reviewers and I think you'll have a wonderful experience. Ive noticed several people complained about the "look" or "feel" of the boat. I thought for it to be 15 years old it was maintained nicely. No outrageous disco look like the Sensation had. I do wish the names were not done in color changing fiber optic. Hard to tell which room it was if you glanced at it at the wrong times. The lines were long on the lido deck buffet but the food was up to par. The comedy shows were packed so I recommend getting there early if you want a seat! We caught Lesters Bibbs show one night and laughed the whole time. Karaoke was always interesting and the casino was busy as well. We didn't spend much time on pool areas because they are the hot spots on the boat but the the Serenity area was nice and quite. Our favorite part was the Piano Lounge and Gustva. It combined the comedy club and karaoke all into one. Gustva was a great singer and his personality is awesome. We sang and laughed and became friends with the other regulars that were there every night also. This was his last ship for a while since he was going on Vacation but Ill look for him on another ship very soon. Over all it was a far better experience than the Sensation and I highly recommend this trip to anyone. Thanks again Carnival   Read Less

hi all, i am just a second time cruiser, first was in 2005 on the Miracle-it was a group of 500 Crafters hosted by TV Host -Carol DUVAL. It was a great time taking classes from her top seven guests. But my second cruise was 11/1 - 11/6/2014 on the PARADISE. I traveled alone, at home I use a walker, but on ship I pushed my wheel chair (because at airports I can't walk far, so I am wheeled to the gate, and the wheel chair is more comfortable to sit in and I didn't want to bring both items. First before i get ro MY WONDERFUL CRUISE REVIEW, I would like to thank the TSA and mention what a wonderful service they offer for free. My husband was not able to fly with me (we fly SOUTHWEST out of Buffalo, NY). I was getting very anxious about airport security check etc, because you can't even hold onto your passport or boarding pass while going thru security check (also my cruise boarding pass, luggage tags etc) usually when my husband travels with me we throw everything in one carry on bag and he watches as it goes thru security to grab it right away since it also has credit cards, money and items mentioned above. It takes me longer to go thru security check by the time they check my wheel chair and MEDS etc. So all I could think of was somebody was going to grab my backpack when I couldn't get to it right away. Well TSA now has Personal Support Specialist who will stay right with you, Gladys helped me at Buffalo and she held onto my important papers, wallet etc. She made it so simple for me that my anxiety went away. She would not let me tip her, she said her job was to make me happy and do whatever I needed, she even went and got a bottle of water for me (I paid for it of course). But I am a diabetic on insulin and brought a sandwich for breakfast since we had to leave home at 4 am. She then went to whelp someone else but said she would be back to help me board the plane, and she did! My husband saw how at ease she made me that he found a TSA supervisor to tell him how wonderful the experience was for me. Then, because I left a few day earlier than the cruise embarkation date, I stayed at the MARRIOTT on N. West shore BLVD in Tampa, I have never been treated so royally and made to feel at home at a hotel before.this Marriott is beyond belief..I became known as MS PAT. NOW ONTO THE CRUISE OF A LIFE TIME.....THE PARADISE!!! My cabin steward...Alexander was a sweetheart, I stayed on Empress Deck 7 in cabin E52. Since I am partly handicapped it was so convenient because it was just a little ways to the glass elevators, also near Guest services and only one Deck below the Elation Dining room, which i loved everybody there. One note about elevators if you never cruised before...I learned the hard way on my first cruise, i could never find my cabin, I was always at wrong end of ship. So this time I only used the glass elevators and depending on what deck I got off on - I always turned the same way when I got off the elevator so I did not get disoriented. Also look at the top of the big door on way to cabin, I think they must be fire doors, mine was 712. So if I didn't see that number I knew I was not at right place and please pay attention to the ODD or EVEN signs when looking for your cabin..most helpful. Now the Elation Dining room was fantastic, the food, the service, I chose anytime dining 5:45 a 9:30 each night. I sat at table 160 every night except one night I ate at Lido buffet, because i heard the Turkey was out of this world and it was simply to die for. Best turkey I ever ate. I also had breakfast and late lunch on Lido deck, taking advantage of omelettes and corned beef on rye for the two meals. They couldn't have been any nicer to me offered to carry my plates etc, since I was pushing my wheel chair for my walker, but after my plate was filled I simply sat it in the wheel chair but did let the girls bring my hot chocolate and ice water, I try to stay as independent as I can. But they were there to help at any time along with the chefs in charge. Everyone on the whole staff/crew always smiled said hello. My light went out in bathroom and cabin steward had electricians there inless than five minutes. I just can't say enough good things about the PARADISE, crew...etc. The entertainment was fabulous, FLUFFY was my favorite! There was always something to do, even for me, there were bingo games, watching people to learn to CHA CHA, fiesta night-I stayed up until 1am. There were sail away parties, comedy shows, Vegas style shows, a type of newlywed game to watch as three couples were chosen to participate...absolutely hilarious. The cruise was as laid back, as formal, as informal, as active, as relaxing as you made it....the choices were always up to you. If I lived in Florida I would be right back on the Paradise. I learned about B2B's...back to back, you take a cruise ..disembark and go thru customs and turn right around and board sme ship for sme cruise...don't know pricing on that..i may they it next year and I would definitely cruise CARNIVAL PARADISE again   Read Less

This was my first cruise and it was such a memorable experience. I was pleasantly surprised at how roomy my stateroom was and how extremely attentive and friendly the staff was (and I mean the ENTIRE staff was extremely professional, fun, and courteous). Steven, Hugo, "Fluffy", and Eric were all so genuine and hilarious, they made my first cruise so much fun with so many laughs. Sergio & Fanny were our servers for dinner and they were so kind, funny, and very attentive (Sergio is the BEST!). The food is surprisingly delicious and each menu for dinner has something for everyone. There are many different activities including trivia and "game shows" that are a great time. Carnival Quest was absolutely hilarious and left me in tears from laughing so hard, although not recommended for those who are easily offended, definitely an 18+ event! Overall, I highly recommend this cruise for anyone. I will definitely be sailing again! Read Less

The Carnival Paradise was definitely a "fun ship". If lots of partying is not your thing, this would probably not be the ship for you. We went on a 4 night cruise to Cozumel and had a really fun time. The ship is quite nice, but the rooms could still use some updating. The staff was extremely friendly and the bartenders worked very hard to keep up with the crowds at the bar. The one overwhelming disappointment was the food. It just wasn't good. But we managed to find other options like hamburgers, pizza, etc. to keep from getting hungry. Since we had a suite, embarkation was very easy because we went through the priority line and was able to skip the long terminal check in line. Check in time was 1-3pm and we were on the boat and in our suite before 1:15. The Elation dining room was nice and the service was good. In retrospect, I wish we could have had the option of having a table for just the 4 of us. The tables sat 10 people and 3 of our original table mates had ZERO sense of humor and clearly not on the boat to have any fun. Needless to say they requested a new table. Made for a very uncomfortable and awkward dinner. Our first day at sea was spent on the upper deck laying out and sipping pina coladas. We were able to enjoy a nice breeze, good bar service, fun music, and lots of entertainment including the "hairiest chest contest". Cozumel brought us perfect weather and we docked right on time. We met in the theater for our excursion (Isla Pasion Twister boat - highly recommend!) and disembarked very quickly. Our excursion brought us back with a couple of hours to spare and those were spent at Senor Frogs. Major party location that I wouldn't take kids to. Our 2nd day at sea was much like the first. Pool, sun, drinks, music and more partying. The disembarkation process seemed a bit chaotic, but things quickly got moving and we were off the boat and back at the hotel to pick up our car by 9:45. Overall, this is a boat to party on. I would probably refrain from taking small kids unless they plan to spend a good chunk of their time in the kids club. I would have liked to have had another option for nightlife. The Rex nightclub is great for dancing, but mostly full of 20-somethings looking to hook up. The Casino bar seemed to be our favorite place to hang out, but the live music ended at midnight and we found ourselves staying up much later than that. My group opted for the "Cheers" program where we were able to have up to 15 alcoholic drinks per day (6 am to 6 am) and unlimited soda and smoothies. This was $45/day. Beers were $6 and mixed drinks around $8-9 so that saved us some money (don't judge us, we're on vacation). We left the boat feeling like we just left a 4 day party and still smiling about it a few days later. We had a blast, but probably not the best cruise for families or for those that are looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation. One last note, we stayed at the Hampton Inn in Ybor City. We did the park & cruise package for a very reasonable rate and it included a hot breakfast, garage parking for the duration of the cruise, and a shuttle to and from the port. Read Less

This was our second trip in less than a year on Carnvial Paradise. This time we traveled with a group of 20, including one child and we all had a blast. The crew and ship are awesome for a smaller, older ship. This ship is going to drydock soon for the 2.0 upgrades but it's quaint and special to us, being in our home port and the ship we got engaged on (12/2013) and honeymooned on (10/2014). We wil miss her when she is gone! Food and service were typical of the last cruise, although this sailing had a sea-day buffet, I do not remember our December cruise having this. Our cabin was Upper Deck (6) Ocean View and was spacious enough for what we got. The only disappointment was that this room is under part of the Galley and there was a horrid 'tomato paste' smell every night around 11 PM that caused a need for lysol spray, it was that bad. It's not a room I'd recommend or want to stay in again because of being under the Galley. The Casino & Promenade are great places to people watch and the Rotterdam Lounge is a great spot to meet friends for a drink before dinner. We spent a couple of nights in Rex for their various parties and a couple of nights in the American Bar for the piano sing-along with Gustavo. There's always one drunk guy in there, it seems, and we found him on night one....and he was back on night 4, but we still had a fun time in there. Gustavo was different than the guy we had in December but he was good too. We also saw the adult comedy show by Anthony Acosta, he was somewhat funny but really only talked about his 'stuff' in his show, and it got kind of redundant. The comedians on the last cruise were much better. Ports of call were Grand Cayman and Cozumel and a fun time was had in each port. I was impressed that we were given an option on a rainy day in Cozumel for a full refund and canceled our snorkeling/beach excursion and ended up finding our own things to do. Once the weather broke, we did a glass bottom boat/snorkeling tour on our own...it was great and much less expensive than the Carnival excursion we had originally booked. In GC we went to Stingray City (Deluxe Stingray Sandbar tour through Carnival) this was done through Marineland Tours and they were incredible. They truly made the experience much better than our first go-around. We did cruise with my 10-year old step-daughter and I was beyond impressed with the Camp Carnival program for 9-11 year olds. She had a blast each night at Camp Carnival and stayed til it closed every night. I was impressed that even though we paid for the service she actually came out every night with some sort of keepsake. They were great with all the kids and had plenty of activities for her to enjoy. She's pretty shy, but by the end of the week she didn't want to leave them and they had convinced her to do every dance they could teach her. They were a wonderful staff! Our cabin steward was attentive, but we really didn't see him much. One night we missed cabin service because the sign on our door was turned to "snoozin" rather than "cruisn" so we were stuck with wet towels and unmade beds (and no towel animal!) :( not really his fault, but just something to note. Overall it was a great trip, likely our last one on Paradise as she is now and it was a trip to remember. Everything was great overall! Read Less
