We choose this cruise because of the date and Mahogany Bay. Unfortunately Mahogany Bay was changed to Costa Maya which turned out to be O.K. The ship is very old and needs to be updated. The pool is VERY small and overcrowded. Most of the crew were great with the exception of a few. There was one bartender at the American Bar that was rude , (maybe because we were ordering "bubbles" or "virgin" drinks or at the end of her contract) but for the most part all was good. Our room steward Sahardi was fantastic and we tipped him as so! As everyone else has stated in most of the reviews I've read the food had declined a great deal but you will not go hungry. LOL, The shows were good for the most part. We saw the PG shows with our grandsons so I can't comment on the others. The weather was great and no major problems with the ship. We made each port on time and no problems with sewage, roughness, etc. We had a pretty smooth ride thank goodness! We did have a leak ( we think from the shower) in the carpet of our cabin starting the 2nd day of the cruise but nothing "flooding". Embarkation went smooth (Faster To The Fun) as did debarkation, the only complaint I have with FTTF was with the excursion, the Officials held us up getting off the ship (we had an 8:15 report time) and it was after 9 before we got off and it seemed "everyone" got off the same time. but we still made our excursion. I would like to see more options for activities when on board other "trivia" I enjoy Trivia but my grandsons didn't care for it. The "tower" game IS a nice addition. As far as excursions we did Nachi Co-com at Cozumel on our own and it was nice. (Looked prettier on-line but still nice). You pay for you own taxi over but its private and one rate includes a meal and drink. There are activities close you can purchase. We did the Mayan Adventure Park at Costa Maya and loved it although I was terrified on the zip-lines lol. The grandson's really enjoyed it. (8 and 16). All in all we had a good time. A lot of memories and laughs. Read Less

First, let me state, that I traveled solo on this five day cruise which was based upon the the "casino rate", excluding airfare cost $541 for an interior cabin, port charges and taxes, vacation protection, transfer to and from the port, and prepaid gratuities, but excluding airfare. However, it is expected that one spends some time in the casino s gaming, which I did. Getting there: It was a breeze from NC to Tampa a less then two hour flight, the Tampa International airport is well laid out and I was at the Carnival Cruise Line meeting place under an hour with my bags waiting for the bus. The bus arrived and we were at the Port of Tampa in under one hour. Embarkment: Again, going through security and then getting my sail and sign card, i was on the ship in less than one hours time. Paris Restuarant (the buffet on the Lido deck): Standard cruise line buffet, a cut above Golden Corral, but with delightful desserts. On the Lido deck near the pool the is the "On the Grill" whic basically served hot dogs and hamburgers, (dried out hamburgers and cheese burgers. Opposite "On the Grill" is the "Mongolian Won, you select what you want on your won and they cook it for you. Both of these food stations will disappear as the Paradise is going into dry dock for renovations, and it there place will be the "Guy Fieri's Burger Joint" and a Mexican food station NO DRAFT BEER in the "Pour your own" cabinet. There are two pour your own beer dispensing cabinets and for about thirty cents and ounce you can get about a 14 ounce cup of Bud Light or Thirsty Frog Red. Problem is the beer cabinets were always empty, So let's do the math, a 14 oz cup of beer about $4.20 + a 15% gratuity for under $5. They sell sixteen ounces of domestic beer for $6.75 + 15% gratuity or about $7.so, CCL made about two dollars MORE per beer - it is all about the bottom line! Pool: there is one pool so it is crowded on sea days but it is quite pleasant on port days, it is easy to find a deck lounge. Majestic Casino: this is an "L" shaped casino with recently upgraded slot machines, one craps table, on Poker Pro electronic poker table, two roulette tables, one Let it Ride table, one WPT Heads Up Hold'em table, two three card poker table, and several blackjack tables. The bar service is excellent, the dealers, pit supervisors are friendly and the casino host, Vicky is terrific. There were night drawings, based upon the guests "points" from the slots and table play. On a five day cruise if the guest gets 1000 points on the slots, you receive an "on us" drink card for free adult beverage while gaming in the casino. Main Dining Room: The service from Fritz, Agus and Puji were EXCELLENT, however as I dined at the second seating 8:15pm, most of the entries were dried out probably from being on the heat table or heat lamp. The food on Royal Caribbean is superior to Carnival dining offering Entertainment: Average, mostly production shows on a five day cruise with good comedians. The lounge shows are varied and musicians and vocalists are good. Shore Excursions: I did not do any excursions, so I cannot comment. Cabin: Standard interior cabin, my cabin steward Suhardi was excellent, they will ask you if you want a morning or evening bed turn down, I usually have just and evening turn down and my request for a fresh bucket of ice everyday was promptly done. Disembarkment: Getting off the ship took less than one hour, from the time, I left my cabin, picked up my luggage and got on the bus. OVERALL: This was an average cruise, the MDR quality of the food, was below par, entertainment was good, good standard interior cabin. Read Less

This ship was very very rocky!! I was sick the first 2 days of my trip because the boat rocked so bad. This is my 6th cruise with Carnival and I have never experienced this before. Also this ship was older and kind of dies out during the daytime. Other ships throw deck parties during the day and sometimes a night time captain's party on the main deck and none of that happened on this ship. Lucky for us we had 125 women in our group and rented rooms to have private parties in, otherwise we would have been very bored during the daytime. We traveled to Cozumel and Costa Maya those is places were beautiful but the locals do beg a lot so be prepared. Not a good selection of food on the ship. I ate hotdogs the whole time. The drinks were really good and cost about $10 a drink. Read Less

Not enough for them to do, ship was outdated but very clean, our room was noisy, the ship did have a sewer smell on occasion, when i called cruise line before our cruise they informed that was not true and they could not cruise if so.food was great, service was great, entertainment was good, but bands to loud. SHORE EXCURSIONS TO PRIVATE ISLAND IN COZUMEL WAS NICE, BUT NOT LONG ENOUGH FOR THE PRICE, ALSO GUIDES TOOK TO MUCH OF YOUR TIME EXPLAINING THINGS,SO EAT INTO YOUR TIME ON THE BEACH, THERE WHERE NOT ENOUGH CHAIRS ON DECK TO LAY OUT DURING THE DAY, THAT WAS A HUGE PROBLEM SINCE YOU WHERE ON SHIP FOR 3 DAYS, I WILL NOT CRUISE ON CARNIVAL ANY TIME SOON Read Less

It was available during spring break. I wouldn't go again if I had to do it over again. They changed the itenerary about 10 days prior to the cruise which caused some difficulty. Entertainment on the ship was very good. Food in buffet is poor, food at dinner was better. Grill is good for lunch each day but same thing is served over and over. The people who work on the ship work very hard, they try to make your cruise enjoyable. As mentioned in prior reviews, the ship is old, apparently they remodeled it a few years ago but it is out of date and could use more sprucing up. Costa Maya has gotten much better. It has been six years since we had traveled there and they have done a lot to improve the excusions there. Cozumel was basically the same as in the past. In Costa Maya, we did yaya beach which was good, also went snorkeling which was really cool. In Cozumel, we did Nochi Cocom which I did not think was as good as my experience at Sanchos. Read Less

Embarkation was long but very organized. Our unopened water bottles were rejected but they were accepting wine bottles. The ship was clean but a little challenging to find the different areas of interest. The elevators didn't always go to the deck or point of interest we were looking for. We had to either walk up or walk down to get to the location we wanted after getting off the elevator. There were several dining areas and there were plenty of fresh and delicious food. If you're a vegan, good luck. We were assigned to dine at the Elation. It gets pretty crowded (especially on formal night) at times so come in early. The hostess were nice & friendly. The servers were accommodating and the service was better at the beginning of the cruise than towards the end. It gets a little cool in some areas, so pack some cover ups. Our room steward was wonderful. There was one incident that made me very upset which was the verbally abusive security staff who yelled at me when I made a mistake during re-boarding in Cozumel. The guest service personnel and the head of security were very understanding and apologetic. Jaime, the Cruise Director, was super awesome. The Rock show was excellent, must see. My family loved the comedy show as well, both PG and the 21& up. The ports in Cozumel & Costa Maya were easy to navigate. Both places were beautiful. We didn't have small children with us but there were lots of very happy children on board. There were several hundred crew members on board and I'm sure that there were more customer friendly staff than not. I recommend this cruise to those who like to dive or party, or both. We booked this cruise because it coordinated with my husband's time off; also, him and my children like to dive. I would have preferred a cruise with more activities on board for 60+. Read Less

Overall, me and my wife highly enjoyed the cruise. There was plenty of food and we had a blast in Cozumel. The crew was super nice and the nightly entertainment was 5/5. They have hired very talented performers of all types. They did a very good job keeping us entertained and relaxed during our whole vacation. The downside: *A lot of the food didn't have any taste which is a shame. *The 24-hr pizza tasted like the nasty pizza you got when you were in high-school. (The sandwich shop was great :D) *Unless you went to the restaurant, the open breakfast buffet was very standard. It wasn't bad but not that many options *Not many activities to do on the last day back to Tampa but we still had fun *Our whole cabin section in the Riviera Floor had a pluming issue on the second day and every time we flushed the toilet there would be urine coming out instead of fresh water which is disgusting. We reported the problem but it seems like they could not fix it. *didn't win any money in the casino lol Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was a smaller ship, out of Tampa and it fit our schedule for a milestone birthday celebration. We found it not an easy ship to find your way around, needs updated in some areas but the problem we were shocked to experience was the rudeness of some of the employees. We all have bad days but there seemed to be a select group that needed to realize we passengers are there paying their wages, a smile goes a long way if you cannot show or say Thank You. Our room steward, Lawrence was the best room steward we have ever had. He seemed to always know when we were coming or going to be able to greet us. We never found anything wrong and if we ask for something we only had to request it once. He was even there to help tie a tie :) Read Less

They have really cut back on the food options. I think the choices were slim pickins. The beds were very comfortable. The "Fun" staff was great. I wish there was more to do on this ship. The smoking in the casino and bar was horrible. Need more ventilation. I feel like they nickle and dime you. Everything cost $$$ Nothing is free anymore. Not even the steak. The employees are great. very friendly. They try their best. Not enough bathrooms. You have to search for them. We did have a good time. I kinda wish i was on a boat for the Superbowl. That would be fun. Oh, one last thing...Who would put a putt putt course on the top level of a ship! Very windy. I kept losing! ;) Read Less

I travelled with my husband and two sons ages 6 and 8. We spent two days at Lego Land pre-cruise (fabulous by the way), spent the night in Lakeland then returned our rental car to the airport. We took Uber from the airport to port which was only $13 total for 4 of us, much cheaper than any shuttle and still lower than a taxi. Embarkation went very smoothly. We had an 11:30 check-in time and showed up pretty much right on time. We were on the ship eating lunch by 12:15. Rooms were open around 1pm and our cabin steward Edy was very pleasant. The hamburgers and fries were always great, never half cooked fries like we've had a time or two before. The buffet was really good at breakfast, and only okay at lunch but the deli was fabulous as was the grille so that is where we usually spent lunch. The dinner buffet was okay, often had many of the same items as the MDR, but not everything and of course no chocolate melting cake in the buffet. The MDR was good, not great. Nelson provided good service and was always really good with the kids. Speaking of kids, the boys enjoyed camp carnival. The staff seemed really good although there was minimal organized activities in camp compared to our other cruises. The only crafts or anything they brought home were their treasure chests from pirate night and their t-shirts they coloured. They enjoyed the Dr. Seuss parade and story time, it was fun to watch as well. One of the boys was part of the show. Cruise Director Mike did a fabulous job with it. On to entertainment staff. Mike was a lot of fun when he was out and about, however, he was not out and about nearly as much as any other cruise director we have encountered. Same goes for all the entertainment staff. There were hardly any activities going on around the ship until the last day. The last day there was a few trivia, bean bag toss, trivial pursuit, pool games, paper airplane contest, etc. but on any other day you would find a few trivia and that was it! the first sea day they did have a mixology contest and hairy chest but that was it. The evening shows were very well done, my kids enjoyed them as well. The Cowboy comedian was great, this was our second time seeing him on a ship (three years ago did as well). As for the Geechy Guy, the first time we saw him we really enjoyed him, but he only had two family friendly shows and both were identical! The Cowboy also had two family shows but as most comedians can he was able to come up with two different shows. Not the Geechy Guy, he tells you right off the bat it is a repeat, and after listening to a couple jokes you realise he isn't joking and about the audience walks out as they realize he isn't capable of coming up with two 20 minute shows. One thing to note or is easily missed is Tea Time. It is just plain tea (other flavours available for $1.95) but there are little salmon or cucumber sandwiches and plenty of little desserts and scones. It happens on sea days around 3pm. It was listed in the fun times with the food times. I believe the heading is 'Still Need More' or something like that. It is a free little snack. Overall it was a great holiday. There is no such thing as a bad cruise in my opinion, but of the 10 I've been on, 6 of which have been Carnival, 2 Royal and 2 Norwegian I would put this in the bottom 3 for sure. I have even been on this ship before, three years ago, before dry dock. The biggest change is the lack of entertainment staff offerings. We were supposed to stop in Grand Cayman which I was looking forward to, to bring the boys to the turtle farm but we got detoured to Costa Maya because of weather. Can't fight mother nature. We have been there before and didn't want another ruins tour and my youngest the ship won't let snorkel for another year so we did a bit of shopping (better prices for souvenirs than Cozumel) and swam at the bar pool. In Cozumel we did the 'Everyone Loves Rays' excursion through the ship. Note that although it is only a two minute taxi ride away, it is cheaper to do it through the ship than walking up and buying a ticket. My husband and I did the same excursion three years ago with our older two sons when they were 6 and 8 and it was just as great this time with my younger two. You get to feed the rays, learn all about them while they are swimming right in your feet while standing in waist high water and then snorkel in a deeper area with them and lots of fish and even a shark :) After you can jump on the water trampoline and have a hermit crab race or buy lunch or a drink before heading back to the ship on your own time. Returning is paid through the excursion, but you take individual an individual taxi so you can hang out as long or short as you like. Read Less

I chose this cruise for my kids the room wasn't the cleanest I bought the forever bubbles so ,me and my kids have unlimited sodas, but getting a soda wasn't easy. you would go through buffet then have to go get your soda from bartender which there is only one for about 500 people by the time I would get it the food was cold and I couldn't get my kids they had to get there own soda so there food would be cold . and the worse part of cruise the food was terrible even in main dining. don't know if ill cruise with carnival again. I also purchased 2 excursions the one in grand cayman left an hour late after we got swimming with dolphins we were suppose go to beach for a couple hours but when we got there we had 1 hour and then you had to pay for everything to chair to food umbrella etc. I'm surprised they didn't charge me for sun. I figured they have towels there but no one told us to take towels no where to put your valuable so didn't dare to leave anything on beach. the dolphins were awesome the beach part terrible . This was my 6th cruise with Carnival. I will be honest. This time around, the food was just okay. My wife and I finally worked up our way to the Grand Suite. While the room was nice, it was still kind of just run-of-the-mill. The room's decor was outdated. The bathroom tile floor had hard, dirty stains on the grout. Our balcony was never cleaned, even though they had it scheduled to come and do that. The food was just average this time around. I don't know if it was because of budget cuts or anything, but a lot of the foods that used to be on the menu, were no longer there. This cruise went to Cozumel and Grand Cayman. I hate to give Carnival this average review, but I expected the experience to be a little bit more than that. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it. Up to this point, I have only cruised with Carnival, but will definitely start looking at other notable lines. Not to mention that I have only cruised on the oldest Carnival ships, which I can't fully blame Carnival for. Read Less

We do not expect top notch food services but this was not up to par with Carnival's usual. Some bad choices included pancakes, lobster ravioli;s and cold peas. Add to the service at the brunch was terrible, Waited for coffee, waited for juice, waited for someone to take menu, waited for refills on coffee (start to get the message,) never check on food after delivery. Big Mistake to add steak for 20$ at main dining table, Makes ship look cheaper than before. This was obviously someone's idea to make more money. Considering you can get a similar steak at Outback for about same why would I pay extra here. It only aggravated all our table members each day. Have a one day special if you need the money. Positive side: Show was better than expected, our compliments to time it took to put this together. Do not take this ship just for the show though! Read Less

This cruise was 4 nights and our only stop was Cozumel. I went on this same cruise last year. We ate all our meals in the dining room and really didn't think the food was that good. It wasn't terrible but it certainly wasn't great. We did randomly try the buffet and it was pretty bad. The evening pizza is good but the line for the pizza was always long. We had a balcony room and it was great having the balcony but occasionally we would get a whiff of sewage. I'm not sure if our balcony was near some kind of sewer gas discharge. Our cabin steward keep us in plenty of fresh towels which is a real plus to me. I played roulette in the casino and the table limits were low, which is good, and the dealers were friendly. That being said, the selection of slot machines was dismal. There was not one machine I wanted to play. The beverage service in the casino was slow. We were a group of 8 and 2 of the 8 were children. The dining room staff was great with the 2 children. Disembarkation at the end of the cruise was a cluster. We couldn't get an elevator and had to climb the stairs with our luggage. All and all I wouldn't take this cruise again because of the food. But really, the cost of this cruise is so low I guess you get what you pay for. They can only do so much for the little they charge. I'd rather pay more for better food. Read Less

>Get the coffee from the coffee bar. >Nothing was ever too crowded >Exercise room was 8 out of 10 This was a bachelor party cruise so we were easy and pretty laid back. There were many other parties on board, bachelor, anniversaries, birthdays, ect. so it was a party atmosphere from beginning to end. The staff was friendly and helpful. However there was a few instances with some bartenders. First was at the bar at the bottom of the atrium. I asked for a Grey Goose and tonic, (which it was the only drink I ordered on the entire trip) she gave me a Vodka and Sprite. I told her that is not my drink. ATTITUDE! She ignored me with every word that came out of my mouth. It became a very funny thing because at the half of the bar I was at all the people were amused how she acted. The other time was at the Rex bar, it was late, and I'm sure they deal with many drunk people. However, two of the bartenders were a little aggressive with manners. I noticed they seemed to have had enough of people partying and carrying on. I don't want to come off sounding like this was a bad trip. We had a great time. We live in the Tampa Bay area so this was a natural choice for us. Easy embarkation. Ship is worn but lovingly cared for. Friendly staff. Cabin was a pleasant surprise - very roomy. Main dining room disappointing for dinner. We ate most meals in the strangely named Paris Restaurant, which has neither French décor nor food. However, a very nice shaded outdoor seating area is found at the rear of the Paris Restaurant. Pool music and major shows way too loud. Trivia games held in the middle of the promenade - why not move them to the closed off lounges? Great selection at the poolside grill for lunch and the pool slide is a hit. Don't miss the comedy club or Groovalicious in the Leonardo lounge. We highly recommend the Swim, Sail, and Snorkel excursion in Cozumel. This is my 3rd and last time on Carnival Paradise. While the group we sailed with was a lot of fun and the ports provided a great day each time, there is much less to be desired onboard the Paradise. This ship needs a serious upgrade and some actual adult supervision from the crew. IT's definitely a throwback to the 90's and it needs some serious upgrades. They say no shorts or bathing suits or tank tops in the main restaurants in the evening, but all of these are present every night, I don't really care about shorts and -shirts, but if you have a dress code, enforce it or just can it. There is a very casual dress code in the Lido, as it should be. But it is a restaurant and as such, requires clothing of some sort including shirts and footwear - flip flops completely acceptable. However, every day there were men in there with no shirts, no shoes, wet bathing suits - and not the kind of men who need to be shirtless - not judging as I am one of these. But really? Is it that hard to put a t-shirt and flip flops on? Seriously, you can't even go into Subway looking like this - but no Carnival person ever said a word, even when they were asked, they just said yes, there is a dress code. It's kind of disgusting actually, but the staff is too afraid to say anything, the white shirts need to step in as this ship is getting to be the lowest class of any. And then there are the falling down drunks who grab at other guests, spew nothing but F words at the crowded bar, scream at their companions who are a mere foot away from them, and are just flat out stumbling face planting drunk - and these are not 20 somethings, these are people over 40!! I had to intervene when one of these idiots started holding onto my girlfriend as he tried to introduce himself, nicely of course so as not to start a bar fight, but where the hell is security? Oh, no, they want you to drink more!!! I saw a white shirt actually buying another drink for this one moron who was at his limit on the Cheers package - 15 for the day. That's responsible management, give a drunken idiot more to drink. Seriously, it's all about having fun, but there is a limit anywhere. But it seems to be par for the course on Carnival Paradise to see how stinking drunk and obnoxious you can be!! I've had my last Paradise cruise, this has deteriorated further each time - kids in the late night comedy show, drunks in the serenity deck shouting obscenities ever other word (yes shouting), fall down drunks in the bars anytime after around 6, no dress code enforcement in either the Lido or the dining rooms, no security ever present, hallways that are constantly filled with carts, blowers (to clean up after the drunks), trays, vacuums. Not to say it's all bad - but the behavior of some of the guests really impacts others who have paid just as much to be on there, and there is no control whatsoever. So why have rules if you just ignore them? Why have a limit when the goal is to see how fast you can get to 15 and then just buy more? Not surprising why there are fights on board. But the shows are great, the production very cool, the singers and dancers very talented. Shiplash was the best bad they had - Grovalicious, well, not so much. But at least they moved the band into the night club this time - last time the club sat empty while the band played on the Casino Bar stage making it impossible for people to walk down the Promenade and no room for dancing. So good call on moving them to the night club! The senior staff was very visible and very friendly - always nice to see the guys who run the ship out mingling with the guests. Our room steward Arthur was AWESOME!! Friendly, polite, always smiling, room was perfect. Darunee at the Casino Bar is simply THE BEST ever - she should be a trainer and show others how to enjoy their job and do it perfectly, and Karla also there and the coffee bar is just excellent. Antoniu at the Casnio bar was just not good - never smiling, seemed to actually hate his job, no customer service, maybe he just didn't want to work in a smoking bar (I don't smoke, but the Casino and Casino Bar are smoking areas) I'd agree that they really need a better smoking area for those that do smoke - the one small space at the end of the Casino Bar was right in the main line on the Promenade deck and the drama of people walking by with their hands covering their nose and mouths, t-shirts pulled up over their nose and mouth, and fanning the air frantically while walking through - they are just annoying. Smoking is legal, so there needs to be a better place to put it that the middle of the main deck perhaps? Anyway, Paradise has definitely become the Greyhound on the seas and if they continue to look the other way with some of these guest behaviors, they are going to lose a lot more business or gain the kind that perhaps they don't want - oh what am I saying, they just want the money and people will continue to cruise Paradise because where else can you cruise for $299??? Cheap is the word and with that comes behavior you either tolerate or don't go again. If you go to Cozumel, try one of the private beach clubs like Mr. Sancho's rather than the carnival excursion - they are awesome and not expensive - $55 pp all inclusive with multiple pools with swim up bars, private beach with lounge chairs, great buffet and menu to order off of - and all inclusive - just an awesome way to spend the day in Cozumel!! And just short $7.50/each cab ride. On Grand Cayman, why take an expensive excursion to the 7 mile beach? And don't take a bus either for $8! Walk a block away and get a cab for $2.50 each and it drops you right at Calico Jacks where you can grab an umbrella covered picknick table right on the beautiful beach for $0!! Order some cold beers and great food there and just enjoy the beautiful water and super friendly staff. Then walk across the street and pick up a cab going back for another $2.50 pp - so a party of 2 can go to and from 7 mile beach for $10 while others pay $32 for a bus or ever $55 or more for an excursion that takes you to the same beach!! Get out of the routine and save money, meet nice locals that jump in the cab on the way and enjoy more on GC for less!!! I'll stay with Carnival but on nicer ships and longer trips. Paradise has had it's day, time to retrofit and upgrade, and maybe, just maybe, enforce some of the basic rules? Read Less

We allowed our travel agent to choose the cruise following guidelines we had given her. I am handicapped and on Oxygen so we had many special needs and the staff met those quite well. The ship (mostly the cabins) are very tired. We took a Carnival 11 years ago and the carpet and décor in the cabins are the same now as then just that much more worn. The area I was most disappointed with was the dining. There were no specialty restaurants aboard, and the dining room is only open for lunch if we were not in port. The dinner menu's were very uninspired, meatloaf one night, brisket another. Quite disappointing. I will say when I commented to our waiter about this. He apparently told the dining room supervisor who presented me with chocolate dipped strawberries the following evening. We did order the "off the menu" steaks (extra) which were excellent and one night chateaubriand was on the regular menu. I asked about lamb chops and they said "oh no you had to take a 6 night cruise for lamb" ( ours was only a 5 night). Now for the good parts, the staff was absolutely the best. The main areas were beautiful, Art Deco in style, and very comfortable. They had violinists in the main atrium every night, the piano bar was great, excellent photographers (I always take horrible pictures and they actually did a great job and we bought them all BIG BUCKS but worth it.) The food on the Lido deck was always quite tasty, and because I'm on a scooter there were always people willing to assist me. Will we travel on this ship again, probably not, but would not hesitate to recommend it knowing these limitations. Read Less

Sailed with my daughter and her family again (grandsons are 2 and 5 and this was their second cruise...lucky ducks!). Shorter cruises, usually with pre and post cruise stays work better with little ones; we'd never sailed from Tampa; regional airport offered incredibly discounted flights; we got rental cars on both ends for less than the cost of one-way transfers; a suite for five (king, trundle & two love seats) provided plenty of room: all added up to "why not?" With platinum status, embarkation and disembarkation went well -- and didn't look like others were experiencing delays or problems either. So kudos to the terminal staff. Paradise is definitely an older ship. Even if the wear & tear weren't obvious, the deck plans were nothing like other CCL ships. Took some getting used to, but nothing problematic. The guest services staff was awful, terrible, unprofessional & just plain bad. Particularly Brenda who somehow earned the title of supervisor. Won't go in to details, but they made a huge mistake, blamed Park West and then, when Park West proved the mistake was made by the CCL staff, the guest services staff didn't even hint at an apology. Dining room servers were pleasant, but holy cow, the wait times and inconsistencies with service were ridiculous. The location of the casino and smoking bar that surrounded it made that whole deck hard to tolerate. Not even sure investing in a ventilation system would help the odor is so embedded. Three weeks before our cruise, the one shore excursion we booked (stingrays, turtles and Hell in Grand Cayman) showed "sold out." Still, the night before arrival (just one hour before the tour desk closed & we were due at dinner), we received a notice that it had been cancelled due to 'lack of participation.' As options, they recommended the stingrays only for $20pp less or stingrays & turtles only for $20pp more. How stupid do they think their passengers are? We opted to go independent and it worked out well. I like to listen to music (preferrably rock/classic rock) and couldn't have been more disappointed with the band billed as that (called Groovalicious). They played some oldies and pop, but didn't get any closer than that...after five tries, I gave up. The piano bar was fun, but the player Gustov (I think) could've been so much better if he'd just played, instead of also trying to be a comic. Read Less

Our room steward and our waiter were both exceptional. Most of the staff was very friendly and helpful but there was a couple that were not very knowledgeable about things; some told us shows were not going on when they were so we missed them. The schedule did not show everything going on. We were told different things about whether there was additional restaurants for us to eat at, we never found them if there were. When I ordered drinks and wanted to substitute the type of alcohol they would but if I asked to substitute a mixer for another some would and some would not. The wait at the bars was very long. I don't understand why in a long island ice tea I cannot have orange juice instead of sours. The food was very inconsistent some things were good and others were terrible. A lot of the food was very greasy and salty. I was not impressed with the one option we had for sit down dinner, most of the time there was only 1 meatless option and it was not very good. If you wanted a decent cut of meat or fish you had to pay $20 extra. The dress code for the dining room was ridiculous, women could basically wear anything including bathing suits and men were sent away for wearing sleeveless or almost sleeveless shirts. I stupidly bought a $25 coupon book that is basically useless because they give you the same deals in the stores without the coupons. I tried to return this and they would not take it back even though it was after the 1st port and never used it. This was my 1st cruise and I realize we were on a smaller ship but there really wasn't much to do during the day and swimming was not an option since you could only go in half the pool that was completely full anytime it was nice outside. The hot tubs were also always full so that wasn't and option. There was only 4 irons on the whole ship so when it came time to iron clothes for dinner I had to wait over 30 minutes in line. I am not sure the whole cruise thing is for me for what I spent on the cruise, flight and alcohol package I could have stayed at an all inclusive and had a lot more options. With that being said the comedy show was ok and I did have fun at the piano bar and on the serenity deck one night. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of a great experience we had on a CARNIVAL cruise many years ago and because of the price. We have been on several cruises; some on Mega Ships and some on smaller Ships. We prefer cruising on the smaller Ships and that was the third reason why we chose this cruise. First, The Good: the Stewards, the Shows and activities. The Bad: the pools, the restrictions on their so called "all inclusive" drinks package, no shaded lounge chair areas, the high cost of their excursions. The Ugly: the food. It sucked. Big Time. Especially the meat. Overdone, tasteless, tough. Even the fish. They even managed to ruin Italian sausage which tasted like someone tried to deep fry them and forgot to heat the oil. Terrible. And when you can't enjoy the food on a cruise it is time to stop cruising. It is a shame because most of the staff were very nice and the ship, though older, was well maintained. Read Less

Chose for price and proximity to home. Fun but average at best. Check-in line in Tampa took maybe 40 minutes (too long); more annoyingly, so did pickup of duty-free liquor at 630 am on arrival. Previously had been left at cabin last night of cruise, but they figured out they could make $9x of gheir own drinks by withholding it overnight. Tough luck if you had to change, clean up and pack before debarking. Food in restaurant was good, in Lido buffet generally cold. Mongolian Wok was excellent, Pizza Place mediocre at best. Not enough pool space. Left the Comedy Show after 5 minutes, did not return. Serenity Deck (no kids) was a refuge. Enjoyed sauna, though a fireman told me the STEAM bath was hotter than any scene he had worked! The Irish and Scottish spa ladies were lovely, the Indonesian clueless. Purser's Desk was subpar with notifications. Park West "Champagne" Auction was a joke. Think they poured 4 bottles of champagne at best. 100 or so were in attendance. Lucky you if you sat along the corridor wall. Artwork overpriced and largely shlock. Won the Free Art Work auction and wouldn't dream of paying $35 SHIPPING for ANY of the 5 prints to choose from. Weather was good! Worth the price but no steal. Read Less

This was a 4-day cruise with Cozumel as the port. Little background information....This is my 6th cruise and we are in our 30s & 40s... I know not many cruises compared to some of you awesome cruisers! I am going to give a pro/con lists and excursion pro/con.... Hope you find this helpful. This is of course my opinion.... PROS: Embarkation. We had a boarding pass time of 1-3, but came early and was able to get on board. We were on board by 11:45. They were organized and friendly! The entertainment on board was awesome. Loved the 80's show and rock show. They did an awesome job. The shows sure have become short over the years--35 minutes. I remember when they were an hr+ but sometimes it is nice to be able to do other activities....You don't need to get there super early as many folks wait until the last minute to join. Newlywed show was funny like always. They did it different on this cruise but still good. Hasbro show also worth watching. Our room was always clean and bigger than expected. OV room. No couch though? Shower bigger than RCL. Dining room staff very pleasant and willing to please. Pool entertainment was fun like always. The cheesy contests are a must with cruising and the dancing. CONS: FOOD- It was very much hit or miss. I couldn't believe the SMALL hot buffet. At first I was like where is the rest of the buffet. LOL I looked around ....The food was either good or terrible. Nothing was excellent. The homemade pizza was good and we were thankful they had that on board. Our go to food. How sad. LOL The desserts looked good on the buffet but tasted awful. Other people were complaining about the food....The Deli was different and good. The formal dining room food was good or bad. It's funny how the best food was on the last day. Crab cake was delicious and tomato/mozzarella salad. I am use to the room steward greeting you and introducing himself on day 1. NOPE. He called!! Seriously. That was a first. Day 2 I see two room stewards on their phones and I asked if he was our steward and introduced myself. LOL Pools were OLD and above the ground. Had a yucky feel. That salt water was insane. Although, if you are a kid at heart you will love the slide (cross arms/legs & raise your back...you WILL go fast!) I know it came from the ocean but you'd swear they took galloons of salt and dumped it in... Hit and miss again on friendly staff. Missed staff at the beginning of the lido deck restaurants greeting and all. I enjoyed my drinks but my friend didn't. The WOK was yuck! If you have done Mongolian grill before then you will be disappointed. Who has only rice noodles and such a limited selection. The disembarkation was crazy. What happened to first come first serve if you are taking your luggage off??? We were on deck 4 and the last ones. Now, if the shipped took our luggage off it would of been 10:40 am before we would even leave to head to customs. Crazy. Customs took 30 minutes so not too bad. Excursion....We signed up for the ATV and Amazing Secret River excursion. The ATV was a blast. Be prepared to be covered from head to toe in sand and dirt!!! Now, we were aggravated they ran out of single rider ATVs when we signed up for those! My friend had to take the intermediate ATV (double) since I have never rode one before....No guys would let her use the smaller/single riders. UGH. It was fun though. Secret River was awesome. You will be in a wet suit, lifejacket, helmet, and have a walking stick... Very cool experience. The pictures with blue vibrant water was just that an edited picture!! LOL Our guide was very knowledgeable. We felt safe. The ferry ride to Playa del Carmen was about 35-40 minutes and then you board a van for the ATV. After ATV you board another van for the secret river. We waited 45 minutes on the ferry to go home before we ever left That was crazy! Read Less

We live near by and grandson was going away to his other grandmas (we home school him) so we just wanted to get away by ourselves. I am handicapped and they had a room available. Ship is OLD, OLD no upgrades except carpets and flat screen TV's. Entertainment stunk left after 15 minutes ,no movie screen or Guys Burgers which are listed on the carnival website for the paradise. It had a minor upgrade in March 15.She is scheduled to go in to dry dock in FEB 18! HOPE SHE GETS UPGRADED OR SOLD!! They have been telling us for 4 to 5 years she was leaving Tampa ,no such luck. The late nite snack areas are difficult (Mexican ) For a scooter . No activates when in port for non port people.Trivia areas in the bar areas stunk badly from smoking!! The paradise replaced the inspiration which left and was upgraded. The miracle is coming to tampa but shev is not been upgrade with slides ,guys or movie screens. I just guess TAMPA DOES NOT RATE A upgraded ship. We have to go to PORT CANAVERAL!!!! Handicap room was large enough for my scooter. Door needs a door stop for scooter access when alone. Food was average Loved the old days when you had surf and turf included instead of up charging. Dinning room staff was great(we had set Dinning) Boarding and disembarkation was easy with the scooter!!! For the price it was adequate but will not go on again. MY daughters won't go again. My youngest daughter went on Spring break cruise this past march expecting a updated ship and said NEVER AGAIN!!!! Serenity pool area was nice.. Read Less
