We chose the Mediterranean Odyssey 12-day cruise because of the itinerary offered. All of the ports were cities/countries we wanted to visit. Our cabin was large, impeccable and very comfortable. Everyone from our cabin steward, guest services, bar and restaurant servers, etc. treated us like royalty. We enjoyed the opportunity to dine casually or fine dining in the other restaurants. We had a great selection of entrees and wines from the region we had visited that day. We also enjoyed the diversified evening entertainment and music. Our shore excursions were included in the cost of the cruise and were well planned and on-time. My only complaint is that sometimes we didn’t have much time after the tours to explore and shop or eat as we had to shuttle back to the ship. We enjoyed the intimacy of cruising on a small ship and would highly recommend VIKING for your travels. VIKING is top notch from embarkation to disembarkation! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we liked the itinerary, and we've taken three Viking River Cruises in the past, and we were very impressed with the river cruises we'd taken. The ship was beautiful and very easy to get around. The cabin was roomy and very comfortable. The dining was fabulous - the food excellent in the regular dining, the buffet and the specialty restaurants. We typically had the same table or close to it in the evening dining room, and the wait staff were terrific! The service was great, our cabin steward was very attentive and thorough in attending the cabin. We enjoyed the ports we visited and the shore excursions. The included shore excursions were typically pretty crowded - the buses seemed to be full and all left at the same time and returned the same time, which resulted in long lines to get back on the ship. This was about the only down side to the cruise. Read Less

We arrived two days prior to embarkation and explored Venice. Spent another two days in Barcelona, after debarkation. Both embarkation and debarkation went very smoothly - best of all other cruise lines we have sailed on. We loved the cabin (explorer suite) and the great service provided by the ship's staff. This was the second Viking cruise we have been on. We are totally sold on Viking and their great service. The meal service, at all the different locations was excellent. We like the fact that it is not pretentious and that they don't "nickel and dime" you with side charges. Even though we sailed during the "rainy" season in the Mediterranean, we were very fortunate with only one rainy day on shore and one at sea. We also like the smaller sized ships which makes it more personable. We already made plans to cruise the Norwegian Fjords in 2020. We look forward to future cruises, both river and ocean with Viking! The itinerary, length of trip, expense, and outstanding reviews led us to this booking. The food was delicious, and the wait staff was well trained. The spa afforded a lovely break at the end of the day. The clientele were generally older which made for quieter cruising. The full English tea daily was magnificent and a great time to meet new people.i my husband and I enjoyed all the amenities onboard and were delighted to find that there were no hidden expenses. Al-in-all this was an excellent value for the quality of service provided. We have already booked another trip and chose to try a river cruise after talking with seasoned Viking travelers. We will be taking a trip down the Rhine and Mosel rivers which will bring back many memories of our early married life when my husband was stationed with the USAF in Germany more than 40 years ago. My wife and I chose this cruise because it includes a tremendous opportunity to see a lot of Art Galleries and Museums as well as locations that are historically and socially significant. As has been our experience with all of our other Viking cruises, all facets of travel - from arrival to departure and everything in between - were handled beautifully by the Viking organization. The setting was elegant, and the people were incredible! Our cabin was roomy and well kept. The food was delicious and plentiful. Vikings chefs really know how to cook a variety of food styles and can please the most picky eaters. The specialty restaurants offer an elegant setting to try new dishes, and the staff in them are friendly and personable. The entertainment was fun - really enjoyed the classical music in the Living Room in the afternoons and evenings as well as in Wintergarden during tea time. We found the service to be second to none. The included excursions were fun and informative, and the optional excursions offered a wide variety of experiences you don't find on other lines. All things considered, we can't wait for our next trip on Viking! Read Less

We so enjoy traveling with Viking. We have been on their ocean and river cruises. The ocean vessels are lovely ships, with great staff and good food. Rooms are well equipped and nice size. We also enjoy the entire interior look of the ships. It is nice hat the layout on each ocean vessel is the same so when you cruise, it feels like you are coming home. Smaller ship, less people, no casinos, peaceful surroundings. We also appreciate Viking’s policy of guests must be over 18 years of age. No running, screaming kiddos roaming the ship. We find on shorter cruises there is a different clientele which was a little disappointing this time. Many folks we ate with talked about the lack of following the dress policies at the dining rooms. Viking needs to watch that this abuse doesn’t continue to ruin the cruise experience for others. People coming to the restaurants in bathrobes, minimal bathing covers and torn shirts and pants are unacceptable. Read Less

The ship was just the right size we thought with all the necessary accommodations ie stores, spa, restaurants, bars ,pools and entertainment facilities. The cabin was very comfortable with such nice extras as the heated bathroom floor and nice view from the outside balcony and the daily room cleanup service was friendly and did an excellent job.The restaurants were all 1st class service and we enjoyed very excellent meals at all of them daily. The entertainment offerings were excellent and enjoyable including the bars and the service provided by the bartenders. We enjoyed all the ports that we visited and the multiple excursions available at each stop. The guides that we had on all the excursions we went on were excellent and very knowledgeable of the history of the sites and were very good in their explanations.Overall , we were delighted with our entire cruise with this Viking ship and crew and would highly recommend to all our family and friends. We will definitely sail with Viking again!! We enjoyed a jr suite, which included many amenities. The shore excursions were informative and fun. The guides and staff were excellent. We spent a few extra days in Athens which I highly recommend before settling sail. Going in November really worked to our advantage as we had beautiful weather and much less crowds. We had been to Venice before, but had we not, a few extra days at the end of the cruise would have also been nice. We were stunned when staff who had seen us once at the restaurant greeted us by name in the hallway. Truly a class act. Embarking and disembarking were made very easy with ID cards, we never waited long to get to shore excursions. Read Less

We like Viking because when we check out at the end of the cruise we don't have a huge bill to pay for wine, sodas, bottled water, spa, laundry and shore excursions. The ship is light and bright and cheery. We'll layed out and functional. All cabins have a balcony and a shower instead of a bathtub... which we prefer. There is a laundry room on each level and soap and fabric softener is included and the machines are free. My only complaint is not being able to make reservations for the regular dining room. We have found it not as well organized as the Table and Manfreds. No one under 18 is allowed on the cruise. So adults can actually use the pool. Also the pre and post additions to the Viking cruises are very organized and well run. Otherwise everything is done well on the Viking cruises we have been on. We already have 3 more cruises book with Viking in the next 2 years. Read Less

We actually brought along some friends on this trip and they too loved the ship and the service. They will be cruising again! A new member in the family of viking. We chose this trip because of the Itinerary.. the ports and excursions were amazing. We especially like Kotor. The entertainment was awesome and since we had sailed the Sun before we already new the cruise director, who is also amazing. Our cabin was always clean and fresh and our steward was always wiling to go the extra. Bringing me extra hangers or and extra pillow. We always come back refreshed and look forward to our next trip with viking. As a matter of fact, We ended up booking another trip March 2020. Oh and our friends are coming too! Read Less

While we have done several Viking river cruises, this was our first ocean cruise. The ship is beautiful, love that everyone has a veranda cabin! The cabin was roomy, plenty of storage space, the bathroom is also a great size and has the heated floor. Our friends were in the cabin next door, so our Housekeeper pushed the veranda separation panel back, giving the for of us one big veranda - nice! The public spaces are beautifully done, and we absolutely LOVED the Explorers Lounge! The views are floor to ceiling all the way around, and since we were sailing in November, the fireplace made a perfect place to end the day. While this ship is obviously larger than the river ships, it still manages to give you a small ship feel. The service was exceptional, as always, and everyone delivered excellence at every turn. Loved all the ports except Corfu. That stop did nothing for me, especially compared to all the other stops. We did the included shore excursion in every port and the were great. We still had plenty of time to play in that city afterwards. We went to a couple of the entertainment offerings and a couple of the enrichment offerings. They did not seem as good or relevant as on the river ships - that was a bit disappointing. Overall - an exceptional cruise experience, as compared to other lines I have used in the past. I will absolutely do a Viking ocean cruise again, and of course - more river cruises! Read Less

We wanted to visit Croatia and we had not spent much time in Italy so the pre-cruise stay in Tuscany with the 8-day cruise from Venice to Athens was great fit. It did not disappoint! We were greeted at Florence airport and comfortably transported to Resort Villa La Veronica in Greve en Chianti where we met up with several other couples. Host Anita was like a mother hen making sure all needs were met. After three enjoyable days in Tuscany we were delivered to Venice and escorted to the port for easy embarkation. The cruise itself was fabulous. The food at every restaurant is like the best in any city. The Chef's Table was not to my husband's liking, but that is just that he is not that fancy in his tastes, but I loved it. We did not go to the more nightclub type room, but the entertainment each evening in the upstairs Explorer's Lounge was fabulous. We also took advantage of the spa for massages and I had my hair washed and blown out which was a lovely time saver. We went for the extra excursions into the countrysides in Croatia and Montenegro. In retrospect I would have preferred to have spent more time more time in Split and Dobrovnik with the included tour. The optional excursions were great, but more for those who have previously spent time in those cities. The Highlights of Montenegro tour was very worthwhile, with a hair raising ride that was actually one of the highlights of the trip. We booked another trip while on board. Looking forward to cruising Viking again soon! Read Less

Our first opportunity to cruise with Viking. Loved it. Will be looking to cruise Viking again. This cruise had 2 days in our departure port of Venice, Split, Dubrovnik, Kotor, Corfu, port for Olympia and disembark in Athens. Really enjoyed the stops at Split, Dubrovnik, Kotor and Corfu. This cruise fit perfectly with a marathon tour group that my wife and I continued on with after our arrival in Athens. We stayed another beautiful 8 days in Greece, as my wife and I ran the Athens marathon and 5K races. The Viking Sun is a beautiful ship. All six of Viking's ships are virtually the same; 975 passengers, Great food, Excellent dinning room and two Specialty dinning rooms. Every cabin is spacious and has a balcony. Wine and beer with your meals are included. Each deck has a very nice laundry room, which is free. Excellent spa, fitness center, sauna and even a snow room. There are places to sit and relax everywhere on this ship - never crowded. Superb service. Best of all, Viking offers a free excursion at every port. We had several very knowledgeable guides.. Small ship experience very good however staff attentiveness is much less than on Viking River Cruises. Dinning options were very good. However, trying to get a coffee refill at breakfast was nearly impossible. Shore excursions were again not as good as the river cruise excursions - ship staff were not on top of local tour guides. Quality of shore guides was very inconsistent. Often excursions were delayed starting because local guides were not all there. Ship staff seemed unconcerned about this. Cabins were very comfortable and amenities good. Cabin staff excellent and responsive Public spaces beautifully designed and comfortable. Onboard shops were interesting and had unique items. The most attentive staff was in the perfume shop; she was friendly and engaging. The steam room and snow cave were very relaxing and a unique experience. Viking needs to focus on staff training to make sure that each staff member treats each guest as a valued person - start with a smile and a pleasant hello. Read Less

As expected, the staff, the food, the wines, and the excursions met the same standards as previous sailings. We availed ourselves of the spa and work out spaces. We enjoyed evenings at the Chefs Table, Manfredi’s and the Restautant. A favorite excursion was a visit to a beautiful winery, Cenaia, in Tuscany. Making pizza and sampling wines on a beautiful October day, in a lovely setting was relaxing and exhilarating. A helicopter tour of Monaco and Nice was another highlight. We added a pre trip to Barcelona and post to Venice. Viking did a great job coordinating our activities and making everything go smoothly. We went couple of days earlier to explore Barcelona. Embankment & disembarkment was seamless. Staff were courteous & very helpful. They couldn’t do enough for you. It’s a beautiful ship, large enough for ocean cruising but small enough to enjoy every aspect of the ship. Loved the gym & the spa pool. The cabins are relatively large compare to other cruise ships. They have all toiletries that you needed. Love the laundry facilities especially having detergent dispensary. ( would have been better if we have someone to show us how to use them though. It was through trial & errors). Dining is amazing, a lot of delectable food, as well as many varieties. Services were excellent with abundance of wine. They did a great job with excursions & leaving us some times to explore if one wants to. The only negative comment from my spouse is that there is no casino. There were no children on board. Don’t think children would like it because there are not a lot of activities for them on board. We’ve booked another cruise with Viking Ocean Cruise in the near future. What we like about this cruise is that the expenses are up front so there is no billing afterward. Therefore, the cost is more but in the end, they work out the same. Great cruise. Read Less

We were anxious to see/compare the Viking smaller ship, ocean cruise with other large ship ocean cruises. We also wanted to compare this venue to Viking's river cruise ships. Turns out these smaller ships are a HUGE plus, and their river cruise ships are a close second. Our ship was always spacious and immaculate everywhere we went. The main dining area food was always excellent, with many fine choices at each meal. Even the pizza was better then in Naples, and their galeto never stops. Three additional private restaurant options were also terrific, and was a nice change of scenery. Service was friendly and very accommodating everywhere you go, from dinning, to cabin, to poolside. Our flight arrived late, so the staff transferring us to the ship started this display of their warm service. Casual, quality, elegance everywhere....perfect! The entertainment was multi talented in their lounges, and the stage shows were outstanding. It was like a condensed Las Vegas! All this while in perfectly comfortable, relaxed settings. Included and optional excursions, were both very enjoyable and varied. The access on/off the ship with ground transportation was all excellent. Every port was a pleasant call, but Monte Carlo, Corfu, and Croatia were outstanding, and left a smile in our hearts. We'll be back on Viking again, but I have a big suggestion. If guests have long flights (> 8 hours), Viking should allow/provide ground transfers to the ship for overnight hotel stays before boarding. No reason to start a cruise exhausted or rushing. This cruise covers a lot of places. Very interesting, and full excursions. We went from Madrid to Venice. With extensions on both. Madrid was a disappointment. The hotel was nice, but you had to pay for coffee after breakfast. This should be free in the lobby. The street beggars are constantly asking you to buy their wares. Even when seated in outdoor restaurants. Very annoying. I would pass on this part again, and do more days in Barcelona. From Madrid to Barcelona we took a train. Very well organized and enjoyable. Viking did a great job here. Barcelona was beautiful. We went to Marsaille France, did the included tour. Next was Monaco. Loved seeing the palace and where Grace Kelly was buried. Warning to anyone taking this tour, it's all uphill, and quite a long walk. Next we went to Italy-Luca and Pisa. It's a very long day, but well worth the tour. You get to see a lot. And the tour guide was very informative. These were paid for excursions, and an 8.5 hour day. Our next stop Rome. Went to Vatican City and Sistine Chapel. I have to say I was disappointed, only in that it was chaos. Multiple tours, hundreds of thousands of people all going to the same place. It was beautiful, and glad I went, but be prepared for the crowds. You can not take photos in the Sistine Chapel. This was a paid for tour and a 10 hour day. Afterward we went through Rome, past the coleseum but it would have been nice to have a short stop for pictures. This excursion did include lunch at an Italian restaurant. It was very good, and offered homemade limoncello. Onto Sorrento and Pompeii. These were also paid excursions, and another long day. Sorrento is the home of limoncello (yum). Pompeii is an amazing city. Well worth the tour. It's a lot of rocky walking. Our guide was amazing, and humorous. Corfu Greece was next. Did the included tour. Much needed break from three days of long tours. Neat city, and nice tour. Dubrovnik, Croatia was also lovely, went on included tour. Can't say this tour was good. Left us to explore on our own. Town was having a huge celebration which had State dignitaries and thousands of people. Made sightseeing difficult. Our guide wasn't very good either. Split Croatia was a small walking tour, and then a paid for river boat ride. We loved the river boat ride. It stopped at a small restaurant to give us a local flare of wine and bread. Enjoyable. Guide was very good. This was also a paid tour. Last stop Venice. We were in the rain, so didn't get to see as much as we would have liked. The hotel is across the canal and you have to take a water taxi provided by Hilton. San Marco square was flooded, but still crowded. We went in the Doge Palace, it was huge, and cost $20 euro to go in. But worth it to get out of the rain. Viking dropped the ball on this part of the cruise. Leaving the ship was delayed. There was a lot of waiting. But retrieving luggage went smoothly. It all arrived at the hotel. Once at the hotel, rooms weren't ready, so you had to sit around. There wasn't enough seats for the number of guests. However, we kept checking on our room and got one early. The Viking desk in the lobby did not offer much helpful info. They have no tours except for the day from the ship. You are on your own. Leaving the hotel was very interesting. They retrieve your luggage at 9am outside your room. Take it to a ramp, you identify your pieces and then board a small water taxi with other guests and on o the airport, with your luggage. It's about 30 mins to the airport. The Viking rep there was very helpful. The airport was crazy. I suggest getting your boarding pass printed at hotel. There are two lines-boarding pass and no boarding pass. Even though I did ours electronically, the one for my husband was wrong, and it reproduced mine to him. So we had to get back in line to get him a paper one. Our cabin on the ship was 3053. DO NOT ACCEPT this cabin. It is right over the dance bar. EVERY NIGHT WE HEARD THE BAND FROM 10-12mid. Once we identified it, and complained, (Viking actually knows about this!) they couldn't move us, because the ship was full. Three days before leaving they offered us another room, but we declined because we were leaving soon. Food on the ship was amazing. But they have some buffet setup issues. Some of the offerings can't be reached, and others ran out numerous times. Wait staff wasn't always on top of things, and you would have to ask over and over for your drink. Though they were always there with beer and wine. Room was always cleaned well, and our steward Eddie was great. I would go again, but would definitely make sure my room was in a better location. All values are excellent combined into very high rate of “VALUELITY”. Good shore excursions included in each of the port plus some free time for self exploration. We do not require ourself much regarding the cabin, but it was roomier than we need since we spent most of the time in and about. Food was unbelievable, especially at the specialty restaurants, and most surprisingly was from the GRILL. The experience talks onboard were somewhat not in our interests as the topics were not current. The entertainments were good and suitable to the level of audience and age. We had turned in several suggestions regarding more visual (such as videos) for us to compare the OPTIONAL excursions, about more channels choice on television (such as US news and sport channels) as well as the option for close-caption. We also suggested the use of phone notification to remind us the times for excursions and for entertainment shows. Read Less

We booked this cruise because of the itinerary and my wife's experience with Viking river cruises. Both the destinations and the hospitality were outstanding! The tour guides with real historical chops and the resident historians were stars. The food was on par with a legend of Valhalla (see what I did there?) We loved creativity of the Chef's Table, and were surprised it wasn't more packed. We were also pleasantly surprised by the excellent musical talent of the entertainment; they were professional and I would not be surprised to see them in first class musical theater productions or commercially successful in selling recordings. My only disappointment was the unavailability of spots on some shore excursions. In particular, we were unable to get in the Alhambra tour, and that was one of the top three reasons we picked this cruise. Bottom line, we loved it so much that we signed up (on the boat) for another ocean cruise in the eastern Mediterranean in 2020, and we are trying to get our extended family members interested. We chose Viking Ocean because of excellent experiences with Viking River Cruises, of which we have been on four in Europe. We were not disappointed. Before I write the review for this cruise, a word about the ocean: Traveling the North Sea and Bay of Biscay is a completely different animal from cruising the Caribbean, where most “past-cruisers” have gone. Here you really are “at sea,” with all that entails: waves and troughs that can easily be 20 to 30 feet high, storms, and other nasty weather. As a Navy veteran I absolutely loved the return to the open sea, but many on board seemed quite nonplussed that they weren’t on the glassy surfaces they had previously experienced. Do your homework. Travel to and from: Viking offers deals on air transportation. If you can, it is much easier to package your entire trip with them, including insurance (which we found to be quite reasonable). Once you land at your embarkation destination, worries go away as Viking takes care of everything. Once your trip is over and you return to an airport, Viking people go with you and make sure you have found your flight and gate. I find that quite impressive. They could, but do not, abandon you after you leave the ship. Regarding the Viking Sun: The ship was immaculate, as all Viking ships (ocean) and boats (rivers) are. The amenities were impeccable, from the four or five places to dine to the public spaces where, seemingly, every comfort was anticipated. There was even a jigsaw puzzle table. The crew was also wonderful. A mandatory tip is assessed to each passenger but we additionally tipped our cabin cleaning duo and a particularly fun waiter. We asked for his table every evening. There was not a single crew member who was less than helpful and accommodating. The size of the ship is perfect. Slightly less than 1,000 passengers mean relatively quick off-and-on. Personal service is possible with a ship that size, and the ports you visit aren’t inundated with your fellow shipmates (especially in off-season, which is when we travelled). Remember, though, that a somewhat smaller ship may be more difficult for passengers in rough seas. Dining was also very good. The portions are smaller than we are used to but we certainly weren't hungry after eating. There is a local menu, a chef's specialty menu, and a "standard" menu for those of more traditional taste. As mentioned above, the table service was as good as it could be. Shore excursions: Because I have a limited ability to walk, my wife and I had limited ability to enjoy excursions, me more than she. I offer this caution: if you can avoid the "Panoramic _____ (major city)." You get driven around in a bus with maybe a stop or two and can point at places you've heard of/seen before, but that's about it. Have I been to London? Well, I've been THROUGH London but saw it mostly through a bus window. For those old enough to remember: "If it's Tuesday it Must be Belgium." Attached is an image from an iPhone 8, taken through a bus window (Buckingham Palace in the distance). Amsterdam was somewhat different: there we toured canals in an enclosed boat, but the result was similar. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary...Bergen Norway to Barcelona. Wonderful cruise except for the stormy seas and the bland food and the constant, annoying cello and violins! The food....the Restaurant took at least 2 hrs to complete a meal, but the food was better here than in the World Cafe (buffet). Mancini's was great, but not for all the time. We never did the Captain's Table, you have no control over what's on the menu. The World Cafe is where we ate most of our meals because it suits our attire, and hours. For breakfast, you at the same thing boring thing everyday. I tried to get an omelet once, but the "chefs" were too busy fooling around to pay attention to the customers waiting, plus it took forever when they did. Lunch and dinner were just boring and the desserts were all mini gel-filled things. Aweful stuff. In the dining room, you got a proper dessert, but again, we only went there sporadically because we hated how long it took. I will say that the gelato ice cream bar in the WC was very good. We love Viking generally, but the food was seriously lacking on this cruise. Even the "chocolate" show near the end of the trip was mostly unedible. I found lots of people throwing their stuff away, including us. Never gave hurricanes in the North Atlantic any thought in October, I thought they mostly stayed around Florida or up the eastern seaboard. I was wrong! The seas were very rough my friends! Nothing 'normal' people couldn't handle, but if you are at all prone to getting sick, this time of the year may not be for you. You take your chances, I guess. Our first port was Bergen..loved it! The North Sea, not so much. We love Amsterdam as well, but the included tour did not allow us to stay in town. The only time they allowed us off the bus was to look at up close at a windmill and take a canal cruise. Our absolute favorite stop was Brugges, Belgium!! Don't forget to buy chocolate!! LaHavre was a wasted stop. 3hrs from Paris left us weary from bus traveling all day...9hrs worth...and that was the INCLUDED tour! Wish we would have never done that one. I guess we could have done Normandy, but we weren't really interested. Portsmouth England was very windy, but had a great lunch at a local pub. We missed Falmouth England due to hurricane Michaels forces flooding the town. Porto was a great town, loved walking around there, even though it was raining on us! Malaga was beautiful, so was Cartegena! Barcelona's included tour was a huge disappointment! The fact that we didn't arrive in to port until 2pm was bad too. Only left with this scant few hours to see Barcelona, and as it turned out, we didn't really see anthing! Unless you stay a couple extra days at the end of this tour, you will not see much of Barcelona...except huge amounts of traffic! Sadly we can't really rate any of the entertainment in the theater because the seas were so rough we rarely went there. Tea! If your ship has "tea time" GO. It was fabulous! You might want to give it a day or two to slow down though. We didn't go the first week, but we did the whole second week with a lot fewer people! It was my sister's birthday and they brought her the most beautiful piece of cake and a bottle of champagne to her room! All ya gotta do is let them know! Read Less

This cruise was in celebration of our 50 wedding anniversary. We had sailed a Viking river cruise and while the ocean cruise was considerably higher in price than other cruise lines based on our river cruise we felt at ease with spending the additional money. With air and optional tours this cruise ended up costing $20,500. Was it worth the expense yes and no. Booking the air travel though Viking resulted in some problems but not of Viking making. Our original flight was cancelled forcing us to rebook with a less favorable schedule. Upon arrival in Stockholm we discovered SAS lost my wife's luggage. Viking did a good job of helping us to recover the luggage, they offered to wash my wife clothing on a daily basis at no charge, fortunately we got her luggage prior to our departure so all was good. Our room was small but like the river ships the bathroom floor was heated which on this cruise was a great feature. The scheduled itinerary was disrupted by bad ocean conditions forcing Viking to cancel two port of calls. We spend an additional day in Russia but were not allowed off the ship due to visa restrictions. We also had to ship a port due to heavy seas cause by gale force winds. This ship lacks a lot of standard ship board activities and normally this would not have been a problem but with three "sea" days two unscheduled time seemed to drag. The food was outstanding with lobster three days and prime rib several days. Beer and wine is included at all meals, as well as offered free several other times. There is a included tour at every port of call. They were mostly walking or bus tours narrated by a tour guide. We took a number of extra tours including one in Berlin. I would like to say they were all worth the extra money, but we were cheated by our tour guide in Berlin. He was totally unprepared walked away from some of the tour group at one point in general was not a good source of information. When we complained to Viking we never even got an apology. Basically they said Oh Well. The ship lacked keeping us informed as an example the was a scheduled event which was billed as a chocolate event. Due to heavy seas it never took place. Then two night later there it was a chocolate bonanza but because it was never announced many guests including us had a standard dessert at dinner and missed out. The cruise critic meet and greet was great they had drinks and snacks and the staff showed but they were gave any formal talks just made a appearance then left. I think they were a little confused as to what it was all about. Most days the entertainment met out expectations. The ship band and musical group did a good job of keeping us entertained. Our cruise director kept us entertained as well as he stared in one of the nightly shows as a singer and patio player. Due to missing two ports of call Viking has offered a $250 per person credit toward a future cruise, a pretty weak response to missing two ports of call. The ports of call we did visit were outstanding, the weather not so much, cold and windy. Would we go again? We booked a British Isle cruise for next summer, but not with Viking as we felt it was over priced for for a nice cruise on a new ship but lacking in the personal touch . Read Less

We had long wanted to visit many of the ports included in the Viking Homelands experience, but have, previously, planned our own travel trying to avoid anywhere with a ship in port! However, the prospect of smaller numbers and all-inclusive travel appealed, and we thoroughly enjoyed our first cruise experience! We cannot speak highly enough of the service we received! Embarkation was a breeze, the cabin every bit as lovely as the brochures promised, and the Sun itself is a work of art! Food was outstanding and the entertainment first class, whether in the public areas or theatre! We danced every night at Torshavn till they kicked us out!!! Travelling with another couple added enjoyment (we Aussies swept all before us at trivia!!) but we often went our own ways when in port and made many new friends. Unfortunately we lost two ports (and gained extra sea days) due to the weather, but this actually gave us more time to relax after busy times ashore. We did most included excursions, some of which were excellent, several optional ones with Viking and a brilliant two days in St Petersburg through Alla Tours (saw so much in a small group). It's expensive but we are so glad we took the plunge that we've just booked another! Read Less

Because of the Itinerary and all of the inclusive's! We had an all inclusive including air fair, hotel and we had great transfers and pick up and drop offs were seamless. Beautiful ship, wonderful Interior Design and very well maintained, absolutely loved the spa!!! .City Tours were very informative, only issue I would probably offer people with disabilities a separate tour so enabled people could move quicker so people who move slower don't feel the need to move faster and visa versa. All guides were very well informed. Embarking and disembarking very smooth. Food in the Restaurant was the Best, had dinner in the specialty restaurants and was disappointed, love current presentations and techniques but they just left us flat. Great Concept, just needs work.Loved all the fresh seafood and the breads which I understand were made in house were wonderful! We enjoyed the experience so much we are going on an other Ocean cruise in 2020. Read Less
